[I]Picture the scene...[/I] A twenty one year old girl visits Las Vegas to celebrate her birthday - and everything she touches turns to gold! Going home, she has more riches than she's ever dreamed of - what should she do with them? Her twin sister's boyfriend, Rob, is training to be a wrestler, and laughingly suggests she tries to get involved herself. Brian Dixon of All-Star Wrestling is known to be looking for a backer to help him challenge Joint Promotions, Rob tells her... So, Claire Maynard, the girl, goes to see Dixon, intent on offering him the cash to turn ASWUK into a force to be reckoned with. The only problem is... Brian doesn't realise she's a millionaire. All he sees is a good-looking young woman, presumably a ring rat - and he's more interested in the contents of her panties than her wallet. Big mistake, Bri - because after slapping him in the face, Claire storms out of their meeting and calls up Max Crabtree, of Joint Promotions. What does she say to him? Wait and see...

Taken from the UK wrestling newsletter, January 1983: Huge news in Joint Promotions, as Max Crabtree has allowed an unknown young lady to take the helm. Rumour has it that she's paying him a vast amount of money for the privelege of matchmaking, and that he's given her a series of very specific goals to meet if she wants to hold onto the job. Her first show was Friday night, at the Gillingham Ice Bowl. Here's what happened... (Thanks go to correspondent Mark Jennings for the results.) Segment 1: [B]Robbie Brookside vs Dave Bond[/B]. An upset here as Brookside, making his professional debut at just 16 years old, took down one half of the tag team champions in 9 minutes, although he looked dead on his feet by the time he squeaked out the win with a roll-up. (D) Segment 2: [B]Marty Jones vs Steven Regal[/B]. Another debut saw Regal submit to Marty Jones' leglock. (C+) Segment 3: [B]Giant Haystacks vs Mark McCoy[/B]. McCoy got tossed around like a ragdoll by the massive Haystacks, who finished him off with the splash in just under five minutes. The giant looked great out there, much to the disapproval of the fans. (B+) Segment 4: [B]Jon Cortez vs Ben McCoy[/B]. The other McCoy picked up a win, beating Cortez after 14 minutes by pinfall, hitting a powerslam to finish it off. (C) Segment 5: [B]Kendo Nagasaki vs Alan Kilby[/B]. A Kamikaze Crash finished off Kilby, after the beatings taken by both men seemed to have little effect for the majority of the match. Kilby looked poor, and the crowd knew it was only a matter of time before Kendo beat him. (B) Segment 6: [B]Peter Roberts vs Brian Maxine[/B] in a 30-minute Ironman match. Roberts took this one 2-1. (C+) Segment 7: [B]Jackie Pallo vs Big Daddy[/B]. Pallo did the unthinkable, beating the hero Big Daddy with a sleeper in 8 minutes. (B-) Segment 8: Post match, Nagasaki and King Kong Kirk hit the ring, joining Pallo in attacking Daddy. However, the save was made - by Tony St Clair! St Clair immediately challenged the heels to a tag match right here. (B+) Segment 9: [B]Big Daddy/Tony St Clair vs Jackie Pallo/King King Kong Kirk[/B]. St Clair and Kirk wrestled for most of this one, with Daddy in particular looking exhausted after his first match. However, Shirley Crabtree did tag in at the end to give KKK the Big Daddy Elbow Drop and get the 3 count. (B) Segment 10: As Daddy left, Kirk grabbed a mic, and demanded to meet Daddy next week in Slough, for a posedown. (B-) Show rating (B-)

Aldershot's Princess Hall is the venue for the first televised show of the Claire Maynard era in Joint Promotions, although most of the viewers don't realise there's a new girl in town. Pre-show, rookies Ian Dean and Steven Regal go at it, Regal winning in 8 minutes with the Regal Stretch. Thankfully, most people weren't in the arena yet! (F) We now turn you over to brothers Charlie (10 years old) and Michael (8 years old) to hear what they thought of the latest edition of their favourite TV show. Segment 1: [B]Johnny Kincaid vs Robbie Brookside[/B]. Charlie: Johnny Kincaid is a CHEAT! He had these brass knuckles and he hit that new guy in the head and it wasn't fair! (C-) Segment 2: [B]Big Daddy vs Mike Jordan[/B]. Michael: Big Daddy is great! He beat Mike Jordan up and hit him really hard, then he did the Big Daddy Elbow Drop to win! I do that to Charlie sometimes and it HURTS! (C+) Segment 3: Charlie: That nasty Kirk thinks he's got more muscles than Big Daddy, so they're gonna have a posedown on Friday night in Slough, and if I'm dead good, my daddy might take me to see it! (B) Segment 4: [B]Otto Wanz vs the Amazing Kung Fu[/B]. Michael: Wheee! Otto Wanz is my hero even though Big Daddy is great, and Wanz got Kung Fu in a bear hug and Kung Fu gave up so Wanz won! (B-) Segment 5: [B]King Kong Kirk/Giant Haystacks vs the McCoys[/B]. Charlie: Booo... I like the McCoys! But they lost when Haystacks and Kirk sat on Mark, then Kirk hit the rolling splash. They are dead fat! (C) Segment 6: Charlie: They showed us a video of Big Daddy and King Kong Kirk (B) Segment 7: [B]Jackie Pallo vs Johnny Saint[/B], for the World Light-Heavyweight title. Michael: Pallo hit a piledriver and then he won the title! No one wanted him to win because he's really nasty! I hope someone like Big Daddy or Otto Wanz gets it back off him soon! (B+) Show rating (B) 81,508 viewers saw the show.

Up-and-coming youngster Steven Regal today quit All-Star Wrestling... it's claimed that Claire Maynard said she'd make it worth his while to walk out on Brian Dixon's fed. Stop press! The earlier news about Steven Regal leaving ASW is completely overshadowed now - Tony St Clair has also quit! St Clair, as well as being one of the top stars in the UK, made a lot of the matches in ASW and was an excellent road agent. His calming presence backstage will surely be missed.

The fans pack into the sold-out Slough Ice Arena ready for the big posedown between Big Daddy and King Kong Kirk... First up, Daddy is waiting in the ring, and asks for two volunteers from the crowd. Two men step forward, and he lifts them both up! (B) A tournament is being held for the vacant Light-Heavyweight title over the next few weeks. It's billed as open to ALL UK wrestlers, and newcomer David Taylor is the first to throw his name into the hat. [B]Ben McCoy vs David Taylor[/B]. Unfortunately for Taylor, he doesn't last long - McCoy forcing him to submit after 7 minutes. (C-) [B]Skull Murphy vs Ian Dean[/B]. Murphy is the second new guy in the tourney, and beats Dean easily, forcing him to submit to the Gator Hold in just 5 minutes. Terrible match, though. (E) [B]Robbie Brookside vs Johnny Kincaid[/B]. Rematch from the TV show last week sees Brookside get his win back, in 6 minutes. (D) [B]Steve Grey vs Mike Jordan [/B] for the British Lightweight title. These two go at it for 11 minutes, Grey successfully defending with the Bridging Roll Up. (C-) [B]Alan Kilby/Marty Jones vs Bearcat Wright/Amazing Kung Fu[/B]. Jones wrestles most of the match, but Kilby picks up the win, pinning the Amazing Kung Fu. (C) King Kong Kirk vs Big Daddy posedown. Big Daddy is voted winner by the applause of those fans who care about this kind of stuff, only for Kirk to then attack him. (B) [B]King Kong Kirk vs Big Daddy[/B]. This leads into a match, which referee Billy Finlay loses control of and throws out after 6 minutes. (B-) Jackie Pallo is out watching the posedown, as Tony St Clair signs autographs. St Clair accidentally bumps into Mr TV, much to Pallo's disgust. St Clair challenges Pallo to a match, and Jackie accepts. (B) [B]Kendo Nagasaki vs Brian Maxine[/B] in a 30 minute ironman match. Nagasaki beats Maxine easily, winning 3-0, much to the disgust of the crowd. (B+) [B]Jackie Pallo vs Tony St Clair[/B] in a 2 out of 3 falls match. Pallo steals the win, nearly going one behind early on, but coming back to use the ropes for leverage in the 2nd fall to get the straight falls victory on 18 minutes. (A) Show rating (B+) Poor start there but rescued once we got to the main eventers/upper midcarders. Bad news for Joint, as Johnny Saint takes his talents to ASWUK... however, David Taylor and Skull Murphy quit that fed to work for JP - two for the future, hopefully.

ITV World of Sport, week 2. Prior to the start of the televised action, we see Alan Kilby get past Skull Murphy. (C-) [B]Steven Regal beats Steve Gray [/B] in just 4 minutes in the 3rd match in the first round of the title tournament. (C-) [B]Mark McCoy goes over Mike Jordan[/B] in the tourney, taking 5 minutes to get the pinfall. (D) [B]The Liverpool Lads,[/B] in their debut tag match together, beat the [B]Caribbean Sunshine Boys [/B] to win the World of Sport Tag Team titles. Dean and Brookside take 6 and a half minutes to pick up the victory, Robbie covering Dave Bond.(D) [B]King Kong Kirk beats Big Daddy[/B] in a rematch from yesterday, Giant Haystacks running interference for Kirk. (C+) [B]Alan Kilby, Giant Haystacks, Jackie Pallo, Jim Breaks, Marty Jones, Otto Wanz, Pat Roach, Peter Roberts, Kendo Nagasaki, and Tony St Clair [/B] go at it in a battle royal. Haystacks is eliminated early when the other 9 gang up on him, it comes down to Wanz, Jones, Pallo and St Clair. otto eliminates Marty, then Pallo gets rid of St Clair and Wanz for the victory.
