Sorry for some of the sentence structure spell checker can only help so much :).

I’m currently working on a database with a start date of 1983. I’ve worked on it for several months now and wanted to go ahead and post on it at this time.

I’m not trying to convert DOTT info and integrating it with the 87’verse and pass it off as my own. I underlined that statement to make sure this is crystal clear. I won’t lie and say I haven’t used them as references, I have regularly but their use ends there. Also in this mod I’m trying to introduce some fairly new ideas. A few may sound kind of like Kamchatka’s “Road to Glory Challenge” scenario but it’s not. In fact I’ve never even read that whole post or tried a ROG (it is a pretty cool idea for giving you a new feel for TEW10 from what I did read though). I’ve always used my own format for a TEW fictional’ verse, which has a couple of similarities to ROG at start up. I’ve used some of my format for this new game world.

I apologize for the length of this post but I wanted to make a few statements before I went too much farther.

Why not earlier?

The power of regional and nation wide television events has just started to be realized in 1983, thanks in large part to GCW for the former (and SWCW who never got to exploit it properly). This has a huge impact on game play.

Why not later?

I’d like to point to Genadi’s (and his crews) fantastic work on the TEW10 87’verse with my only beef (not with any of their work btw it was great), the time frame of it.

It’s basically over…the territories are in their death throes as Vince has applied the Sharpshooter and the ropes are to far away to grab onto .

Now I know JCP (& later WCW) make a good go of it but it’s not the same to me.

Why 1983?

That time frame (and year to be precise) is a perfect starting point for a game world mod.

Eric Baker’s (and not to sell anyone short Gpanic, Ryan and Troy) previous work of DOTT for TEW05 was remarkable. When I play that mod it really takes me back to when I was young (I’m 42).

The territories (although beginning to falter) are still very real and playable.

Information from the early 80’s on can be found fairly easily (thanks to the internet).

And mostly, I miss Georgia Championship Wrestling and intend to save it before it’s integrated with the MACW to become JCP and ceases to have its’ own real identity.

Modern day RW wrestling is a shell of it’s former self to me. No offense to any RW mod makers currently with that, these things take so much time and effort the only thing that can be said is “good job” for anyone who gets one out, RW or fictional for that matter.

I would like to play a game that can take me back to the time I enjoyed most is all.

I will not being including a picture pack for two reasons:

*I’m not going to hassle with infringement of copyrighted logos without consent.

I’ve never even posted a file the size of this mod for download so I’m not looking to add to it. I do realize mediafire and such are good places to get that done but I’m a ways off from that step. Although my picture pack I use with this mod is awesome :).

I still have a lot of work to get done with it. The time on 2100+ bios & stats alone are incredibly time consuming as all mod makers can attest to. So I estimate a good month out from having anything I would consider playable. I will be, if they read this and wish it, give a copy to Eric (& anyone on his team) and Genadi (& anyone on his team) first before posting it for download. This is so they can attest that it is original and can critique it if they so wish.

*- I actually have no idea what can and cannot be done legally so I figure why mess with it

The next post will include some of the aspects of the mod.

Update 1

Just a few lines on how I’ve gone about collecting the information for this mod. I’ve obviously used the internet found some excellent websites that have a ton of the old cards w/ results for me to look at. My memory, which comes and goes. My humongous collection of Bill Apter’s finest mags from the era. Thank god my wife has never thrown out those old boxes. I have a fairly small but pretty good collection of books written by workers in the business. A small (to me) VHS collection of some matches too.

Ok all the niceties aside, here is a small sample of the setup and some of the things included in this mod with a few specific elements.

Any worker debuting after the year 2000 will not be included. Any organization (promotion or TV network) formed after 2000 is not included. Basically anything after the year 2000 is blank. I would expect players would add new workers, promos or whatever in if they so wished. I did this to lighten the work load. It’s massive as it is.

The start date is January Monday week 1, 1983. Any worker who debuted in 83 will have to wait until their listed month to debut (this includes RW Hawk unfortunately). The parent company of JCP exists (with MACW) but is not represented as a promotion in name, even though technically it could be by the end of the year (and would have been regardless). The same goes for WCW (the promo in name, the show does exist however), since it may not come to exist if events unfold differently. GCW has pushed the brake peddle on Ole & the boys and Jim Barnett is still very much a factor. GCW still goes by Georgia Championship Wrestling btw…but they have already changed their TV show to “World Championship Wrestling” (in 82) and its’ sister show is on too “Best of WCW”.

That is just a brief “what you won’t see” in the mod and short setup for one area of the game. On to something you will see.

The User Characters. I still have many I’m kicking around. I’ve picked actual faces in the wrestling world in 83’ BUT tried to stay away from those that tip the history dramatically (i.e. no User Character of Vince McMahon). Here are some that are definitely in and the advantages they get in the game.

Ted Turner “The Mogul”- You think you can do it better, although you have almost no real wrestling promotional knowledge or talent for it, you have lots of resources to draw from.

As Ted you will have your own TV station. You will have to decide at the start of the game which regions of the world it will be telecast to (with a limit). After the game starts, you can alter any and all aspects of the network (which is pretty limited after game start but with this you can adjust it to except any show you wish and alter it back to deny others). You will also receive, if you wish, compensation for show costs and a supplemental income each fiscal quarter. (Yes, I know Turner is borderline tipping history but I have made two companies WTBS & TBS…GCW gets one, you are the other if you use Ted, you just delete the duplicate one for the UC if you’re not using Turner)

Boris Malenko “The Professor”- Retired from taking a real active part in the game you have decided to dip your hands directly into the promotional aspects of it.

Aside from your talents, you have the advantage of getting your own Dojo (w/ predetermined statistics for it) for free (you will kick the money into the promo you’re at after game start for it). There are new wrestlers generated to liven up history so you could get a nice boost of talent coming at you from time to time. You have your sons Dean and Joe (add Blood Relatives on & contracts) to work for you at the outset. At the end of every fiscal quarter, a worker you have trained with (any you currently have under contract) has learned from you in his/her Performance Skills and will get a permanent boost in one skill.

Bill Apter “The Master of Propaganda”- (No RW mod is complete w/o Bill :)) You’re tired of seeing the independent days go by the wayside, from now on you will be taking a hands on approach to the world of wrestling.

One you have considerable abilities in calling a match. Two you have the power of journalism and the ability to influence thousands of mindless teens, who of course (in 83’) still believe everything they read. At the game start you will get to boost your promos popularity in regions of your choice (w/ limits). At the end of each fiscal quarter you will get down and dirty using your magazines with the talents of Liz Hunter (*snickers*) to boost the popularity of one of your own workers and Matt Brock (*snickers again*) to tear down the popularity of one your rivals big stars.

There are wrestlers you can choose from for your UC but I’m far from finalizing all the UC’s. To name just a few more…Paul Boesch (a great guy, & since he closes Houston around 83, he's a good one to use), Jackie Sato, Andre Baker, Lola Gonzalez and I am still looking for a Paul Heyman type? I want him to be available in the game, plus he hadn’t debuted yet anyway…any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Next post: What to do with the NWA Titles and how to use it like they did,

Hints: NWA WORLD TOUR! Baby…. (w/ a touring promo, promotion pacts and not as much editor use as I had thought)

Crap almost forgot- Any comments, questions or suggestions greatly appreciated my humble/ego slider leans heavy to the left, so I take constructive criticism very well.

<p>Real quick, to respond to your posts and to touch on a subject.</p><p> </p><p>

@JackKnifed72 </p><p>

Yeah William Moody is not a bad idea. He actually was on my list of possibilities. This was the list: William Moody, Bruno Lauer, Hugo Savinovich, Eddie Creatchman, Jim Holliday, George Gillett, J.R. Foley, Oliver Humperdink, Arnold Skaaland, Gary Hart, Johnny Valiant, Dutch Mantell & Paul Jones. A bunch had to be eliminated, since I felt it would take away too much if they were missing (when not used). A few examples being: Dillion, Cornette, Fuller & Akbar.</p><p>

I was leaning towards Humperdink or Jones, but since I can’t make my mind up Moody it is for now. Thanks.</p><p> </p><p>

@ D. Boon’s Ghost </p><p>

Hey thanks, I have definitely used it for a guide. Some info from the early 80’s can be hard to track down, one example being announcers and referees. Appreciate the encouragement. When I finally make a name for the mod, I’ll probably have a “tribute to D.O.T.T.” type meaning in it somewhere.</p><p> </p><p>

I still plan on posting about the NWA Tour on update 2 (probably middle of next week). I may put a post together earlier than that discussing how workers are rated. I’ve seen a few comments about how RW workers get rated and the dissatisfaction that can sometimes occur. I hope to put together a pretty extensive post discussing this since it can really make or break a mod. I ran across the post which briefly touched on the handicaps the D.O.T.T. team had to work with. No gimmicks for one, so sometimes skills may have been influenced to reflect what the worker was suppose to be, not what he actually may have been. That post got me thinking on this topic. It is tough judging all those workers based on what you or others may have observed and factoring in the workers age at the time of the mod. It is a definite advantage a fictional verse has. Well that and setting up locations, which I’m working on currently by looking at actual cards from 81’-85’ to setup the venues (fictional verse venues seem pretty easy in comparison right now <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />). Anyway to help with this discussion I wanted to ask for a couple of workers to use as examples for breaking down skills for a possible discussion. I want to use a champion/top contender, a manger/announcer and a third worker I’m not sure of yet. They would all need to have debuted by 1983 and I’d prefer workers who put in some time in the U.S. or Canada (not saying the other area workers are out…it’s just far easier to reference material on them from the 80’s). So again any suggestions for those would be great. If none are given, I’ll just throw some up when the post is ready.</p><p> </p><p>

Thanks again JackKnifed72 & D. Boon’s Ghost.</p>

<p>The best piece of advice I ever received was to base worker stats and popularity off the CornellVerse, as it is Adam's data that will always work best for the game.</p><p> </p><p>

If you adhere to that advice, you've got yourself a base that is better than 75% of the user made data out there.</p><p> </p><p>

The problem with Adam's data (in particular with popularity) is that all workers are 'across the board generic'. You'll need to tweak popularity so that workers are much more regionally based (without being across the board generic).</p>

Boon, I've seen people say "base it off the Cornellverse stats" but what does that mean exactly? Just curious :)

I think what he means - and what I take it to mean - is that rather than making an accurate mod, make a balanced one. Look at the Cornellverse and the distribution of stats. Use that as your model. This is part of what makes DOTT so fun to play.

Ah ok, so not in a "Make Tommy Cornell = Ric Flair" person for person comparison then. Thanks :)

I'm really looking forward to the 1983 mod. It's my favorite time for wrestling as well (altho I feel the great years for Georgia were 79-82)

Great posts…and thanks a ton for all the advice and encouragement guys.

I’ve had a small set back in my last set of “trial playtesting” (sim a few years a couple of dozen times see what the AI does). I ran it about 5 times in a row to check company stability (finances, roster changes, title changes, etc…) and some things were way out of whack. I went in did some tweaking again and again and again. Come to find out after 14 hours of checking it and tweaking, my world data was changed from day 1. The database crashed on me earlier when working on the past year end awards and don’t how or why (very well was me jumping around) but when I started it back up I never bothered to check it. Turns out Risqué & Lucha was set for “very popular” and Traditional & Mainstream at “very unpopular” in the USA (gets p*ssed, sighs & shrugs). Nothing major but I had to throw out the working database and pull out the daily back up I made (good thing for that, had no idea how much I had changed based on false data).

Fourteen hours down the toilet but I’m going to rethink some things anyway.

Thanks Boon for the advice. I had some concerns with popularity as it was, so this will be one area I plan to put more time and thought into. Still a good month away from anything worth really going into great detail with but I’m starting to feel more positive as more things get done. I should have an update post ready in two or three days (stupid RL, work and family…they just don’t understand the time it takes & how important this is :D).

Anyway, couldn’t agree more shipshirt but the TV deals starting off in 83’ make it a perfect chance to put the brakes on Vince. Here’s a good sample of the GCW 82’ good old days for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=A_lywtQ7-i8&NR=1

Oh and Flair gets himself DQ’d against Race to keep the title the next night, Rhodes & Kabuki time limit draw (think he did beat Gary Hart with Kabuki’s stick though), Giant Baba beats Gordy to retain his AJPW/PWF World Title, and Ole Anderson & Stan Hansen beat the Brisco Brothers in the finals to win the tag team tournament after beating Armstrong & Rogers and Genichiro Tenryu & Tsuruta (Ole should have given Jack an extra boot to the head).

Pretty good card with that 10 team tournament and two world titles on the line and a grudge match.

Oh I didn't mean you should start it then, I was just saying how much I love that era of Georgia. I have a bunch of that footage in my collection, ask Boon :)

Update NWA Tour, Worker Ratings and the ICW

Well it was a bit longer than I had hoped to get another update out but here we go.

NWA Tour Update: It’s on hold. I’m not happy about a few things the AI does with it and it still needs a lot of tweaking before any fine tuning can even be considered. What the AI does with it matters to me as it's meant to be "fluff" going on in the background if you're playing one of the promotions or a new one.

Worker Ratings: After taking in some of Boon’s advice, I’ve taken a much more extensive look at the default database (how Adam has it setup for balance, playability, etc…) and I’m revamping nearly 100% of the workers that were (semi)completed.

On to what I did get finished: International Championship Wrestling (ICW). Well the first one that Angelo Poffo ran based out of Lexington, Kentucky. I’m still simming it several times over and over to test the idea that it should struggle with the AI, but in the hands of a player could be profitable and fun. The only problem I’m having with it now is that the AI is doing very well with it. They are support cast heavy but that is meant to give a player lots of options. Most of the workers are on a 1 year contract with a few exceptions. Most notably "The Devil's Duo" (Vines & Sword) with Izzy are only signed for 6 months, since they were leaving the promotion soon.*

Current Workers & approximate status

Randy Savage – ME (H) ICW Heavyweight Champion

Ron Garvin – ME (F)

Lanny Poffo – ME (F) ICW US TT Champion

Pez Whatley – UM (H) ICW US Champion

Rip Rogers – UM (H)

Paul Christy – UM (H)

George Weingeroff – M (F)

Jeff Sword – M (H)

Mike Doggendorf – M (F) ICW US TT Champion

Johnny Wilhoit – LM (F)

Hoot Gibson LM (F)

Tony Peters – LM (H)

Big Boy Williams (Ralph Derreberry) – O (H)

Ron Sexton – O (F)

Ox Baker – OW (H)

Supporting Cast

Angelo Poffo – RA & OW (F) & as “The Miser” (H)

Jim Davis – Referee (F)

Miss Bunny Love – Valet (H)

Brenda Britton – Valet (H)

Izzy Slapawitz – Manager -Vines & Sword (H)

Steve Cooper – Personality & Part-time Referee (H)

Update ICW cont.

I didn't include the TV Title at this time or the Southeastern Titles. It may seem important but if you look at the cards and the TV shows, they really didn't play a pivotal role.

Just for a teaser I managed to find this from the TV show (if this works right!).

http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k627/Lod1926/ICW.jpg

It's obviously not authentic script on the picture but made it easier for me to identify at a glance...and yes it is actually from the TV show...she did interviews including the "Move of the Week" segment a few times.

Also I’ve changed my mind I will be including a picture pack with it.
