Raw 1000th episode (or 100th according to John Laurinitus!!!)

Recommended Posts

Whether you follow WWE or not; July 23rd Raw celebrates it's 1000th episode, and is broadcasting 3 hours on that night and for the foreseeable future.

So my question is: If you're running a real world mod, playing as WWE, will you switch to a 3 hour show, and how will you book it if you have wrestlers 'locked' into their own brands?

When Mr. Canada releases his long awaited real world update I plan on firmly reinforcing the brand split. But with a twist (a twist I totally lifted from an efed I'm a part of). Raw will feature my "Heritage brand" superstars... guys that represent what WWE's always been about. Larger than life characters, huge overblown storylines, comedy, endless authority figure nonsense... Undertaker, Kane, Cena, Santino, Ryder, the McMahon's, Johnny Ace, Triple H etc. It'll be the sports entertainment focused brand. Smackdown will feature my "Evolution brand" superstars... Punk, Bryan, Ohno, Ambrose, Regal, Rollins, Ziggler, Orton, etc. It'll be the wrestling-centric brand with a youthful roster of indie standouts and WWE born guys that can flat out go in the ring. Less comedy, less authority figure centered storylines, lots of title based feuds.

I'll probably merge the WWE and World title, create a sort of WWE Double Crown... just keeping both belts active but putting them both on one main guy. I'll most likley continue the current Heyman/Lesnar/Triple H drama in my own way with Heyman wresting a controlling share of the company from Triple H and the McMahon's in court becoming a major shareholder and causing the realigned and refocused brands his way of "fixing all the damage Vince and his stupid kids have casued this company over the years... " He'll force Triple H back into active compitition, he and Punk will butt heads, he'll put Johnny Ace through the paces as his personal assistant...

I have an entire game planned out in my head. :D

And no, Raw is staying two hours in my universe.

What a great idea. The WWE should do it. But they won't. The wrestling-centric brand might not catch on right away and the WWE has no patience.

If I was playing WWE (I wouldn't, too many great workers, not really a challenge) I would change many things. I don't like the idea of three hour shows so I wouldn't do it. I don't feel obligated to follow the WWE's trends, the whole point is to book the way I (or you) want to. :)

But if you want to do it, go for it. Its your game and all. :)

... really?

Just becasue Orton has gotten bored (see: lazy) doesn't discount the great matches he's had with Edge (both as a team and against him, their IC title match '04 at Vengeance was awesome) his match with Triple H at no Mercy in '07, the main event of Mania 24, his feud with Undertaker including their Mania encounter and their Cell match in '05, and my personal favorite his hardcore match against Cactus Jack at Backlash in '04... Orton + thumbtack spot = my jaw on the floor.

Just because the dude has gotten bored and phoned it in for a few years doesn't discount the fact the man can work. And against the names I grouped him with above? Sheeeeeeit...

I stand by Orton being more of a workrate guy than an "entertainer." A motivated Randy Orton could potentially, with the right opponents, still sell some PPV's and produce some sick matches.

Orton is a guy who completely works to the level of his opponent. Against top workers, he can put on some good matches. But he never seems to drag a lesser opponent to a better match than they are capable of.

The main issue I see with him being in there is that he works "slow". I don't know a better way to describe it. Despite his obvious athleticism, he tends to move through a match like a mid-80s big man. I've never really understood that. Its like they created the whole "predator" presona to justify him stalking around the ring. Its why I think he tends to work better in brawls than outright "wrestling matches". It would obviously not be an issue in game mecahnic terms, but in real terms, I think some of the other talent would end up having to structure matches around him, rather than just go out and try to put on the best possible matches they can have given their own individual styles.

The problem with Orton isn't the fact that he can go toe to toe with just about anyone and take a Foley-level amount of punishment in the process, the problem is that Orton...isn't COMPELLING to watch in just about any fashion, and if his natural doucheyness isn't capitalized on to just make him "the guy you wanna see get his ass kicked--OH WAIT, HE'S FIGHTING BACK SOMEHOWWWWW!!!" then Orton isn't watchable otherwise, period.

WWE also tends to turn heels that start getting pops... Orton is a shit babyface. His best most energized work is when he's a heel. He's even said he hates playing the face and is most comfortable as the bad guy.

I'm terrified the same thing is happening to Ziggler, if WWE makes him a milk toast babyface I'm going to scream.
