Poco Loco vs. The Great Juan

A good warmup here; the lunatic luchador works the crowd, while the Great Juan simply plays to them. Either way, the talent of both men gets the near-a-thousand crowd cheering enthusiastically enough, and Loco evades the Capitalist Running Dog, eventually connecting with the Loco Lariat to score a win.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/ShayKinsella.jpg

DVD presentations carry an unusual segment next. Shay Kinsella is in the corridor looking over a clipboard's worth of notes, marking up the match order on a whiteboard with a black marker, and occupying his feet by playing hackey sack.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/JohnnyWells.jpg

After a few moments of this Johnny G. Wells emerges from a nearby door with a worried expression on his face and a pipe in his mouth; the pipe has LEDs inlaid down it. He takes it from his mouth and a cloud of bubbles emerges from the pipe bell.

“Shay, can I, uh... can I have a word?”

Kinsella knows that nervous tone all too well. “What've you done?” he asks, resignedly.

“Well, it wasn't deliberate...”

Shay stops playing and turns to look at Johnny.

Wells hangs his head. “You know I've been working on stepping up my game?”

“All your training wheels gadgetry? Yeah...”

“Well, I built an android. To spar with. And train. I mean. It broke, so I built a second one in the same series. The Physical Learning And Yoga Android.”

“Go on...”

“It, um. It's... loose.

“Loose?”

“P.L.A.Y.A. 2 has a mind of its own, Shay. It's in the building somewhere.”

Kinsella sighs.

“There's a bit more.”

“There is?”

Wells nods. “It... might have a blank POW contract with it.”

“We might have a robot wrestler on the books?”

“...Yeah.”

“Great!” Shay beams. “Go looking. When you find it, tell it it's wrestling me in two weeks, at Second Stage Wrestler.”

Los Cinematicos vs. Glenview Bad Boyz

Not as good as the opener, but all four men involved in this match are getting to be pretty good. The Boyz, for all that they're a regular team, are not as solidly a unit as might be hoped – and El Popcorn combines well with his tag partner of longer standing, connecting the scoop slam followed by the scoop driver that, Memphis informs the crowd, shall henceforth be known as the For A Dollar More on Li'l Swag – which gets the pin.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/ElHotDog.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/ElPopcorn.jpg

The fans can't believe it, to judge by the sound. Mind you, to judge by their actions, neither can Los Cinematicos. El Hot Dog vaults the top rope, grabs El Popcorn round the waist, lifts him into the air and runs around the ring, doing a lap of honour.

It's hard to tell what these luchadors are thinking, but at the same time, it's extremely obvious that neither of them are sure what just happened – but they'll take it; by God they'll take it.

Johnny G Wells vs. Earl Ray Travis

Earl Ray Travis has been uniformly unspectacular in his POW run – more even than that. These two have met one on one once before, ten months ago, and in terms of entertainment value, there's absolutely nothing between the matches.

Wells' flexibility and agility, as in his previous match, is more significant than before, enabling the one bright spot of the contest, it's finish, in which Wells kips up in time to nail his Thunderchild spear as a counter to ERT's 460 splash.

At least on DVDs, the next segment of the show begins with a close-up on a photograph of Lance Van Der Beek which has been taped to a Weeble.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/DariusKing.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/ScottBingington.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/FreshmanPatel.jpg

A few moments later, a football smashes into it with force. 'Van der Beek' pops back up as Darius collects the ball again, turning to spike it with speed and determination into the Weeble again. Meanwhile, in the background, Bingington is inflicting a beer bong on Freshman Patel.

Eventually King collects his football, spinning it in one massive hand, and sets it down, sitting down. “Alright,” he says. “New plan, brahs.”

“Yo, DK?” Bingington asks. Patel is still hard at work.

“Payback for the geek,” King continues. “Got me a plan. We keep going until the Freshman pins him. And if you do that, Fresh, we're gonna start usin' your name.

Patel is shocked, and splutters. Beer goes everywhere.

“BEER FOUL, BRAH!” Bingington and King chorus in absolute delight, the sombre plan seemingly forgotten in glee.

Scott Bingington vs. Lt. Geoffrey C. Westminster II

Not that bad, given Bingington isn't used to solo acts. He does well, but the Air Ace knows this style better, ultimately connecting with the fluid top-rope-senton-into-rolling-senton he calls the Formation Flying to get the pin.

Once again the DVD viewers get the best of the show, as the camera finds its way backstage again. Jive Talkin' is playing, and the camera pans down the corridor to see the members of Discotheque strutting down the corridor, dressed for their match. KC Summer has a ghetto blaster mounted on one shoulder from which the sound is issuing.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/DISCOFox.jpg

They round a corner, and come to a simultaneous dead stop; the cameraman follows them round the corner to reveal the man standing there, waiting. The man... in a mask.

“You,” Chic growls softly.

“Yup,” DISCO Fox grins. “But fool, I don't see where you get to be on your high horse 'bout me. We got beef, seems like I got the axe ta grind, dig?”

Discotheque look at each other.

“Cat did not.”

“Cat did.”

“Cat's gonna bust up yo' ass,” Fox interjects. “And for the record, cat is a stone Fox.”

Discotheque vs. Alexia Dynamite & DISCO Fox

A very good contest to debut the newcomer ensues, with Dynamite and Fox combining pretty well for a while. Fox is clearly the slight weak link in their team, though, and Discotheque know how to work together in a way that the others just don't.

Ultimately, Alexia finds herself at the mercy of the Gone Platinum – DISCO Fox, notably, could intercept the fall. And yet, he doesn't...

Meido Machine vs. All Hallows Eve

A fine little contest, here. A quick back-and-forth between the two shows Meido Machine in a position of superiority – until Eve does her thing. Moving sluggishly, dazzled, he almost walks into the Creature of the Night, and doesn't kick out nearly in time...

Slo-Mo Dojo vs. Complete Package w/ Jenna Talia

A beautiful contest here and an even one, and the announce team stress that the Dojo have just come off a loss which knocked them back down from three steps on the Pecking Order to two – and that Discotheque, just earlier tonight, reached four.

The result hangs in the balance throughout the match. The Package come close, then the Dojo rally, then Bo Lox beats them down. The end comes when Sky Panther goes into slo-mo just as the Package set for the PackagePlex. Willy takes a long time running the ropes and Bo's stall on the suplex is ultimately countered when Panther twists, returning to full speed as he drops to land on his feet – and Lox flies backward, suplexing thin air, while Willy vaults to the top turnbuckle – only for El Scorcho to catch him with a dropkick. A Slo-Mo Stunner follows for Bo, and the pin is made!

Jess Gilmour-Hart vs. Richie Santana Jr vs. Lance Van Der Beek vs. WMD ©

Excellent work by POW standards. Santana Jr will be the first to go, falling to the combination of a VDB 2.0 and then, seconds later, WMD's gleeful Tactical Air Strike. He needs rolling out of the ring by Tiny Jackson, and lies unmoving outside.

Elimination #1: Richie Santana Jr

Lance promptly attacks Gilmour-Hart, while WMD, smugly, just steps back to watch. Jess somehow flukes a roll-up, but Lance kicks out – only for WMD to lariat them both down hard. She stacks Lance atop Jess, then hits the turnbuckle again, nailing a Tactical Air Strike, pinning them both simultaneously to truly prove her point.

Stallion Stanley vs. John Thomas w/ Jenna Talia

Stanley haven´t impressed so far.

Frat Pack (Scott Bingington & Freshman Patel) vs. Lance Van Der Beek & Richard Ryder w/ Jenna Talia

Ok, so Lance has been lot better than I gave him credit earlier and he and Ryder should be able to beat the lesser members of Frat Pack.

Shay Kinsella vs. P.L.A.Y.A. 2

Love the back story of P.L.A.Y.A. 2 but Kinsella is likely too tough first test.

Charles Vine, Ebi Kadivar & Nevada Van Sant vs. All Hallows Eve, Frightening & Scaremare

Matches between these two teams have always been close but I guess that Vine has some idea about how to beat Eve and I guess we will see what it is here.

Los Cinematicos vs. Complete Package w/ Jenna Talia

Win against Bad Boyz does rise Cinematicos stock, but not this much.

Undiscovered Championship

Darius King vs. Christian Prophet ©

Err, I fear that King is out of his league here, better luck next time.

Discotheque vs. Slo-Mo Dojo vs. Glenview Bad Boyz vs. Lt. Geoffrey C. Westminster II & Fargo Korben

This one is between Discotheque and Slo-Mo and the winning team will be getting a title shot. I pick Discotheque simply because they are the last champions and might as well get their challenge out of the way before giving someone else the change.

I could see title change happening here simply because WMD have already beaten everyone who I could see getting the title off from here at least once (this group includes Kinsella, Slo-Mo guys and Hart). Still I go with WMD this time but I´m guessing that her title reign is closing to it´s end soon.

Stallion Stanley vs. John Thomas w/ Jenna Talia

Stallion Stanley cannot control the power of WANG.

Frat Pack (Scott Bingington & Freshman Patel) vs. Lance Van Der Beek & Richard Ryder w/ Jenna Talia

Because they're a real tag team, and that counts.

Shay Kinsella vs. P.L.A.Y.A. 2

I can't see the Physical Learning And Yoga Android being big enough to beat Da Commish on his debut.

Charles Vine, Ebi Kadivar & Nevada Van Sant vs. All Hallows Eve, Frightening & Scaremare

Eve's coming off a win, and the Dreamscape boys need to make up for their loss to Discotheque. Plus, Ebi might go to Japan at any moment.

Los Cinematicos vs. Complete Package w/ Jenna Talia

Yeah but no.

Undiscovered Championship

Darius King vs. Christian Prophet ©

And here comes the big question: can the Undiscovered Championship entrance people who want the Undiscovered Championship itself?

Discotheque vs. Slo-Mo Dojo vs. Glenview Bad Boyz vs. Lt. Geoffrey C. Westminster II & Fargo Korben

I was about to predict for Discotheque, when I remembered DIsco Fox. Slo-Mo Dojo it is!

Okay, this is it: I'm predicting for Jess Gilmour-Hart every match she's in. No exceptions. Why? I need a reason? Well, she's Jess Gilmour-Hart! What other reason do I need?

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/JohnnyWells.jpg

Over on DVD, Johnny Wells is sat at a table in the cafeteria backstage. In front of him is a remarkable chemistry set that seems to have been created by combining as many as possible. Currently he's pouring various different colours of liquid into it and watching its reaction.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/MartinMcClane.jpg

And after a few moments, he's dragged backwards out of his chair as Big Bo Lox applies a chokehold from behind.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/TatianaPetrov.jpg

Stepping out into view beside the big man, Jenna Talia turns to Wells with a flourish of her clipboard.

“Alright,” she says. “we don't have long before you pass out, so this is going to be a quick debriefing. Point to where you kept the controller for your training robot.”

Wells slowly extends a finger, still choking. Jenna lifts the lid off a toolbox, puts her hand in, and pulls something with a large, bendy aerial out. “This?”

Wells gives a thumbs-up, flailing in Bo's grip. “Good,” she nods. “Down, Bo.” He releases the hold, and Johnny crumples forward.

Jenna looks down and sighs. “Almost too tight a grip,” she chides. “Blood flow's important, Bo. You've got to get this right, because otherwise you'll mess up your...”

The two of them have wandered out of mic pickup range. Wells' voice trails up, very quietly.

“...jerks...”

Frat Pack vs. Lance Van Der Beek & Richard Ryder w/ Jenna Talia

The Frat Pack try hard – and Freshman Patel, in particular, seems never to be happier than when he's one-on-one in the ring with Van Der Beek. He's giving it his best, though his tag team experience shows here, too, as he continues to tag out when he needs it, continues to make the save, and stays aware of Ryder even when facing Van Der Beek.

But you have to give their opponents credit; Lance and Ryder function so well together the Chef actually wonders aloud whether they've trained together before this match. And perhaps that's how Lance manages to get the pin off a VDB 2.0 to Freshman Patel.

Shay Kinsella vs. P.L.A.Y.A. 2

Kinsella could get a good match out of a broomstick, or possibly even Jack Bodydrop. Here he takes on a robot – and it turns out, a dangerous robot.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/CameronCody.jpg

Who only becomes more dangerous a few minutes in when Little Willy shows up ringside holding what DVD watches already know is a remote control. The fans in attendance quickly work it out as it becomes a fighting game, with Willy knowing Kinsella's style from previous bouts and making this a real challenge. Shay works it out near the end, baiting Willy into sending the robot in a baseball slide – and the Living Legend cartwheels out of the way, sending P.L.A.Y.A. 2 into Willy. With the controls suddenly gone, Shay can capitalise, connecting with an Urbana Native to win.

Another DVD extra here; Nevada Van Sant finishes taping her wrists in the style Vine showed her, picks up her hat and sets it at the angle she prefers using the mirror. Then, she turns to leave – and sees Charles Vine stood in her doorway, watching her.

“Charles!” she says, surprised. “How long-”

“What were you looking for?” he asks.

“I – what?”

“You said, when we were explaining the Championship to the Commissioner-”

“Da Commish.”

“- yes, whatever. You said you'd been chasing something else when you got on the trail of this.

“What was it?”

Nevada falls silent for a moment. “Charles, I-”

“It was her choker, wasn't it? Her own little magical focus.”

“Listen-”

“The one that can control men.”

“I-”

“Tell me it wasn't, Nevada,” he says, in a voice that starts out hard and ends up brittle.

There's another silence.

“I see,” he says heavily at the end. He turns, and walks away.

Nevada crosses to the door, looking out... but she falters, and doesn't speak.

Ebi Kadivar & Nevada Van Sant vs. All Hallows Eve & Dreamscape

All of which goes some way to explaining why Charles Vine never comes to the ring for this match. Ebi and Nevada try hard – very hard – but the man advantage is too much. Ultimately, Scaremare is in position to lock Ebi Kadivar down with the Scariest Move Ever, forcing him to submit.

Another little extra for the DVD audience sees Shay exiting the trainer's room. “Yeah, I knew it was just going to be a formality,” he says to the man inside the door. “But you want to check, especially when you've got kids to think about, you know?”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/RichieSantanaJr.jpg

He turns to go out, and stops; Richie Santana Jr is in his way.

“Hey, Richie,” he smiles. “What's on your mind?”

“That guy you fought-”

“P.L.A.Y.A. 2.”

“Right. It's not really a robot. I mean, it's not, is it?”

Shay looks confused. “What are you saying, Richie?”

“It's, like, a man dressed up with a weird outfit. Right?”

“Why would someone do that?”

Santana Jr has no answer for this. Shay smiles. “Richie, seriously. I broke through in the early nineties. I've fought rock stars, demons, two dragons, cops, and a guy who takes the trash out for the whole arena after the match.

“Now I've fought a robot. I mean, wrestlers come from all walks of life, you know?”

Richie seems doubtful. “I... guess...”

Los Cinematicos vs. Complete Package w/ Jenna Talia

A surprise from Los Cinematicos – they can even give the Package a run for their money! It's good – but can it be good enough?

As time goes on, the fact the answer to that is 'no' becomes more and more obvious. Little Willy makes the pin on El Popcorn after the PackagePlex leaves him out of it and easy pickings.

Darius King © vs. Christian Prophet

Darius King is willing, it seems, to go head to head with anyone. He's evidently been issued another helmet by now, and before the match begins he goes nose-to-nose with Prophet. Once the bell rings, he hammers his opponent, with Prophet finding this much tougher than a routine title defence. Christian rallies, but King turns the tide. He sets for the Three Point Stance, but Prophet grabs the belt. He holds it up; the gold flares in the spotlight – and King freezes mid-stride, then topples over backward. Prophet applies his Prophylaxis submission just to hammer the point home.

WANG's theme hits – it is, by the way, a heavy, throbbing beat – and the WANG contingent make their way to the ring. Jenna Talia, for once, does not have a clipboard to hand.

“Over the year and more since you were first graced by WANG, we've been watching. It's a very hands-on process. WANG is something special, and it takes a lot before you're ready for the SHAFT.

“In all that time, we've found only one man who lives up to the description, only one man we can call a Wrestler And Natural Grappler.

“And tonight, we tested him one final time. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the newest proud and upstanding member. He may not be as big as Bo, but he can hit as hard because he knows how to use what he's got. He has that skill.

“He is, of course, the Longhorn, Lance Van Der Beek!”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/LanceVanDerBeek.jpg

Lance comes down to the ring to a reprise of WANG's theme, high-fiving the rest of WANG.

“We're proud to have him,” Jenna Talia says. “He's always been meant for greatness. Since his arrival, he's been a Big Man On Campus -”

Lance leans into pickup range. “Well, and the nearby towns.”

Jenna nods. “The Longhorn,” she corrects herself, “is a Big Man in the Campussy area.”

WANG nod approval, although Ryder and Thomas, in particular, seem offended – not to mention confused - by the crowd's laughter.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/GeoffreyWestminsterII.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/FargoKorben.jpg

vs. Lt. Geoffrey C. Westminster II & Fargo Korben

The match starts lively and well. Fargo dominates the early portion, until he first looks to tag out – which is when his tag partner superkicks him, then whips him into Glenview's corner. The Bad Boyz connect with a volley of punches and an STO/Legsweep combination, Lil Swag picking up the pin.

Elimination #1: Lt. Geoffrey C. Westminster II & Fargo Korben

The Boyz celebrate, but it can't last long; Discotheque hammer them well, though the Slo-Mo Dojo's presence makes it a three-way battle throughout. Discotheque and the Dojo may all be POW “heroes” but they're also both on 4 points – and this match, if won, will put the victor over the top.

Discotheque pick up significant momentum when Swag eats the Gone Platinum.

Elimination #2: Glenview Bad Boyz

And so it comes down to the two teams in reach of the championships – and it gets brutal. But in the end, it's difficult to speed up when your moonwalk was pushed further into slow motion, and the Slo-Mo Stunner fells KC Summer. El Scorcho hits a suicide dive to keep Donny Chic down and secure a title shot!

Best of Three Falls

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/JessGilmour-Hart.jpg vs. http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/WMD.jpg

Jess Gilmour-Hart vs. WMD ©

A beautiful match, where WMD goes ahead after the first fall off an avalanche splash in the corner. The immediate Tactical Air Strike try to make it a clean sweep goes wrong, and Jess nearly recovers – but WMD powers her off.

Gilmour-Hart resumes work on WMD's knees, looking to take much of her arsenal out and soften her up for the Figure-Four, but it doesn't seem to work terribly well. When the Woman of Mass Destruction sets up a chokeslam, Jess somehow turns that into a cradle, managing to even the score.

With their last match having been thrown out, there's real emphasis on this one to provide a winner. And so it's kind of a shame, in the end, that this one finishes with both women in the middle of the crowd, unheeding the twenty-count, Jess looking to avoid strikes and counter-attack, WMD hammering her. This one isn't thrown out – but it's a draw, all the same.

WMD hears the bell, and seems to berserk even further. She grabs an abandoned chair and swings for the fencees; Gilmour-Hart only evades by the skin of her teeth.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/POW/MeidoMachine.jpg

The assault continues, but Meido Machine was already running in. He takes a hell of a shot, folding, but it's the time the First Lady of Wrestling needed to reach safety and disappear.

I'm going to miss Big Bo Lox if he goes. Lance doesn't have as good a name. :(

Still, he's going to be making soooooooo much more money. From an in-universe perspective, he can't afford to ignore this offer, and I'm sure the POW talent will wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

'Ezekiel Trillion has Big Bo Lox'. Hurr. That sounds rude.

Also, go go tournaments!

The Toon Army's coming back to POW. Howay!

Chololariat + POW = Pesos. Millions of Pesos.

Let's hope so. :) We're seeing some more returning faces, too, but they aren't big twitterers.

"The Longhorn" Lance Van Der Beek is definitely different. Alas, AWF hit National, and Martin McClane caught a sweet written contract in their expansion.

Having been playing a ridiculously dominant TCW for my diary games for aaaages, I'm actually kind of happy to be back at the aw-crap-gotta-rewrite-my-plans level.
