by Joel Hattner

Eric Bischoff is no stranger to anybody that watches professional wrestling; he has been a main stay here in World Championship Wrestling since 1991, joining the company from the now defunct American Wrestling Association. Starting in the finance department of AWA, he would eventually work his way up the company to become an on-air personality. This was completely last minute, when AWA's usual on-air interviewer, Larry Nelson, was arrested for a DUI offence. Some say that Bischoff only got the gig because he was already in the TV studio, and wearing his suit and tie. Obviously, this is everything that an announcer actually needs!

If things had been different then maybe we still wouldn't know who Eric Bischoff was today, had Larry Nelson never been busted for a DUI, or had Bischoff not been in the TV studio on that day - which also strikes up another interesting question, had Eric not been there, who would have filled in? And would they have been as good?

Since 1993 Bischoff has worked his way up the chain of command here in WCW, and now holds the title of Executive Vice President. That technically means that Mr. Bischoff is 'the boss'. And boy has he already thrown his weight around - but in a good way! Some of the changes you may have noticed is the WCW logo. It's not as boring as it used to be, is it? It was all Mr. Bischoff's idea, believe it or not. He stated that to compete with the World Wrestling Federation you had to be cutting edge. That's why you'll slowly see a change of product over the coming months. New talent, possibly, will start to show up on WCW television, bringing a fresh approach to the squared circle.

But Bischoff's biggest feat to date must be the acquisition of Hulk Hogan. Hogan has joined us having not been in an wrestling ring in the United States since August 1993, and the fans are climbing the walls to see him finally step back in the ring! He's already confronted WCW World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair, and a show down looks set for Bash at the Beach later this month.

So the only question that is on everyone's lips is this; who will Bischoff bring in next? What will he do next? And will he be able to bring down Vince McMahon and his wrestling empire?

Watch this space.

Hello, you have dialed the World Championship Wrestling Hotline! I'm "Mean" Gene Okerlund, and I'll be talking you through the latest news here in WCW!

First of all, let's talk about the biggest news in the history of professional wrestling, ever! That's the news of the one and only, "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan signing with WCW earlier last month! Since moving from "up north" last August, The Hulkster has been out in Japan, wrestling with our friends, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and out in Hollywood working on such blockbusters as Mr. Nanny, Thunder In Paradise, and it's upcoming sequal, Thunder In Paradise 2! The Hulkster has already set his sights on becoming the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, and has challenged "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair to a match later this month at Bash at the Beach. Ric Flair, never one to shy away from a challenge, has accepted, and now the biggest "Clash of the Titans" is on! Will Flair be able to retain? Will Hogan be able to take the gold at his first attempt? Make sure to buy WCW Bash at the Beach, LIVE! on Pay-Per-View later this month!

From there we go to some ins and outs of WCW in the last week. Well, there isn't so much in the way of "ins", but there are a few "outs" here this week. World Championship Wrestling has come to terms on the releases off Bobby Walker, Lt. James Earl Wright, Buddy Lee Parker, Sgt. Craig Pittman, Shanghai Pierce, Tex Slazenger and Bill Dundee. WCW wishes them all the best in their future endeavours.

There is talk within WCW that some new faces may pop over the coming weeks and months, with executives having their eye on a handful of young talent, including some that are currently "up north", but it remains to be seen if any sort of contracts or deals will be brokered. As always, though, the WCW Hotline and WCW Magazine are your number one places for all WCW news, so don't hesitate to call back in a day or two to discover all the latest goings on, here in World Championship Wrestling!

Remember, kids, calls cost $1.89 per minute, so make sure to ask the bill payers permission before calling!
