D.O.T.T: Aggression Wrestling

Recommended Posts

With the start of 1983 approaching, the wrestling world was beginning to pick up the pace a little. NJPW & WWF were working together to some extent, despite the fact they were the two biggest names on the world map. AJPW & the NWA federations were trying to catch up to these giants, not having much success though. With the territories beginning to collapse under the weight of these massive promotional wars, any new promotion could shake things up abit. In July 1982, "Aggression Wrestling" opened up. With a roster that included Dusty Rhodes, Stan Hansen, Mil Mascaras and some Japanese wrestlers, they were seen as the first new federation to benefit from the death of the territories. Holding a weekly event that saw the company travel all across the USA, they quickly gained popularity. Now they had a reputation, they needed to look at cost-cutting effects. Cancelling their weekly shows, they settled for an easier schedule (and one that allowed them to have more wrestlers on every show). In October '82, the company crowned their first Aggression Heavyweight Champion - Dusty Rhodes. Rhodes started a feud with Hansen over the belt, with other wrestlers such as Rick Martel, Randy Savage and Adrian Adonis getting involved along the way. At the company's last show of the year, "Last Chance Snatch", Hansen defeated Rhodes thanks to a low blow. Immediately afterwards, Hansen was challenged by Adonis to a title match, which Hansen accepted. The match is scheduled to happen in the coming weeks. Another interesting scenario going round is that of Team Japan. The group originally consisted of Tiger Mask (Satoru Sayama), Lion Mask (Nobuhiko Takada), Jumbo Tsuruta and Kengo Kimura. Originally teamed up as Mask/Mask and Tsuruta/Kimura, a problem soon arose when it was obvious that fans liked Tsuruta & Tiger more then their partners. As such, a storyline developed where Tsuruta & Tiger dropped their partners, only for Lion & Kengo to brutally assault them with chairs, taking both men out until a return date some time in January/February '83. Using this to their advantage, Lion & Kengo won the Aggression Tag Title tournament, beating Ricky Morton & B. Brian Blair in the final. However, Lion & Kengo have said that soon, they will unleash their secret weapon - a young talent only known as "Kenta". One of the problems people have had with AW though is the fact they don't have the biggest names in their federation. Despite the inclusion of people such as Martel, Street, Sayama and many others, it was only Rhodes & Hansen who were really cared about. But on December 22nd, 1982, AW phoned all the newspapers, television stations, billboard agents and so much more to say one thing. On Saturday 20th January...Ric Flair would make his debut.

Aggressive Intent Aggressive Intent, 20th January, 1983 Show Location - Hammerstein Ballroom Attendance - Approx. 740 Segment 1 - Tag Title Contendership Contest Adrian Street & Fit Finlay def. Billy Two Eagles & Ricky Morton ~ Morton's third different tag partner in three months, and it was Two Eagles who took the loss after Street threw Finlay what appeared to be Brass Knuckles. While Street & Morton fought outside the ring, Finlay punched Eagles with the knucks on right between the eyes. Fit covered Billy, leading to the victory for the British Duo. ~ Segment 2 - Just Call Me Heenan-San ~ Team Japan walked out with their Aggression Tag Titles. Kengo and Lion entered the ring, with Kengo revealing a Japanese Flag from his pocket, which he draped in the ring. They were joined by announcer-turned-manager, Bobby Heenan. Heenan put over his new "acquisitions" as he called them, declaring them the true Team Japan, unlike the "rip-offs" that were Tiger Mask & Jumbo Tsuruta. ~ Segment 3 - Jackpot Contest "Callous" Mark Calloway def. Steven Regal ~ Loss 10 out of 10 for Regal in this match - if you can call it a match. Calloway nearly decapitated Regal with a big boot from the start, then a big power slam, finally ending the match before the 2 minute mark with a powerbomb. Calloway earns a contract in quick and easy style. ~ Segment 4 - Save It For Later ~ Stan Hansen and Adrian Adonis came out to the ring, with announcer Gene Kelly leaving his broadcast area and Eric Bischoff behind to conduct a joint interview. Both men began to take cheap insults at each other, before they began to trade punches. Kelly had to call for security to pull the men apart, then said the Heavyweight Title contest would certainly be "interesting". ~ Segment 5 - Lightweight Contest Lion Mask w/ Kengo Kimura & Bobby Heenan def. Mil Mascaras ~ With Heenan as well as Kengo at ringside, Lion was bound to win, but Mascaras put up a big fight. Lion tried early for the Tige...Lion Suplex, yet Mil found a way out of it. Mascaras took control, outclassing Lion in agility. It wasn't soon until Heenan & Kengo came into play though, with Heenan causing a distraction by smacking the ring bell on the apron. Kengo took Heenan's briefcase meanwhile, whacking Mil over the back with it. Mascaras was easy picking for the Lion Suplex, which came moments later. Team Japan celebrated... ~ Segment 6 - All Out War! ~ ...when Tiger Mask and Jumbo Tsuruta charged into the ring. Heenan ducked out under the ropes, but Lion & Kengo weren't as lucky, as they were attacked by the men they injured. Tiger came close to unmasking Lion at one point, but Heenan threw the briefcase in the ring. Tiger turned to look at the object, allowing Lion to slide out of the ring. Heenan thought fast, throwing a chair to Kengo. But with Tiger behind him and Jumbo in front of him, it was a no win situation. Well, Kengo also thought fast, throwing the chair to Jumbo, surprising the faces. Kimura took the opportunity to dive through the ropes and to safety. A staredown followed, as the tension built up. ~ Segment 7 - A Natural Warning ~ Ric Flair was interviewed by Eric Bischoff this time. Flair said that he had come to AW to make sure that the bad guys didn't win this time. He told Rick Martel, Randy Savage & Stan Hansen that he was coming for them, Savage first in the night's Main Event. Flair stormed off, with Bischoff surprised at Flair's words. ~ Segment 8 - Singles Contest Rick Martel def. Stan Lane ~ Martel got the surprising win, defeating Lane in a rematch from 2 months ago in November. Lane seemed to win the match with his Myawashi Leg Kick, but Martel somehow kicked out. An illegal rollup by Martel was stopped by Lane, but Martel grabbed Lane's leg, and put him in the Quebec Crab. Lane grabbed the ropes first, but Martel stopped the referee from seeing, then pulling Lane off the ropes. Lane had no choice but to tap out, and the win went to Martel. ~ Segment 9 - Aggressive Heavyweight Title Contest Stan Hansen [c] def. Adrian Adonis ~ The Master of the Lariat got a shock in his title defense. Hansen and Adonis shared the dominance of the match until the last 3-4 minutes, when Hansen got ready for the Lariat. But Adonis ducked under Stan's arm, and began to rally back with punches. Adrian went for the Goodnight Irene Sleeper Hold, but Stan rushed into the corner, winding Adrian. Stan charged with the Lariat, but again Adrian dodged the bullet. Adonis turned around, but Hansen was ready to counter himself - with the Lariat. Adrian couldn't do anything this time, and Hansen picked up the easy victory following his move. ~ Segment 10 - Curse The Courts ~ Randy Savage was interviewed by Eric Bischoff, with Savage talking about how he wasn't scared about Ric Flair. Bischoff embarassed Savage though, by revealing that Savage had tried to put an injunction on Flair, banning the Figure Four Leglock. Savage, obviously ****ed off, said the court ruled that other wrestlers recovered from the Leglock. Savage argued he was better then to be classed with "other wrestlers", before making his way to the ring, still angry. ~ Segment 11 - Ric Flair's Debut Ric Flair def. Randy Savage ~ Maybe the injunction might have helped Savage after all. The longest match of the night, Flair and Savage did a good job of putting themselves over. Flair utilised his trademark chops to weaken Savage, while Savage attacked Ric with elbows and punches. Savage managed to lift Flair up for the Piledriver, but Ric kicked out of the pin. Savage, in shock that Flair kicked out, foolishly climbed to the top rope. Ric recovered in time to grab Randy by the legs, then drag him to the mat. There, Flair dragged the hurt Savage into the middle of the ring. The Figure Four followed, with Savage tapping out almost immediately (probably to minimize the damage he could take). Flair kept the hold on for a few more seconds after that though, as Randy cried out in pain. ~ The show ended with Ric celebrating in the ring, as Savage rolled to the outside, clutching his legs and cursing out Flair.

AFTER SHOW NOTES: It's believed that Ric Flair will be feuding with Randy Savage for the next couple of months, simply because the booking team see a possible mini-feud with Adonis & Hansen. What this means for Rick Martel is unknown. However, it was believed that Stan Lane was just in the right place at the right time, as Dusty Rhodes was to be facing Martel. Rhodes had other obligaitons elsewhere it would appear however. Don't expect Rhodes to be punished with a demotion though, as he is part of the booking team. "Callous" Mark Calloway is supposedly very over with the bookers, and is probably going to be put over a few other heels. The fact he's basically a heel charachter posing as a face though is confusing some people on the roster, but it appears that there is no intention of changing the charachter. The tag team division seems to be getting interesting, to say the least. The Japanese storyline is most likely going to be added too with a Team Great Britain, consisting of Adrian Street & Fit Finlay (and possibly Steven Regal, although Street & Finlay are considerably more popular at the moment). Ricky Morton on the other hand is somewhat more questionable - it does seem the bookers are throwing tag partners at him with the hope it will gel. Finally, a new Mexican Wrestler called "Hexagano" signed his contract with the company backstage at the show, having liked what he saw through the night. How he will be debuted is unclear.

Rush For Supremacy, February 13th, 1983 Show Location - Flickinger Center Attendance - Approx. 820 Segment 1 - Tag Team Contest Ricky Morton & Eric Embry def. Bobby Eaton & Steven Regal ~ Well, Ricky Morton wins a tag match...unfortunately, against another "throw on the wall" team, much like his. Still, Morton & Embry seemed to work quite well together, which surprised many in attendance. Ricky got the fall over Regal after a Missile Dropkick. ~ Segment 2 - Tough Words ~ It appears that Eric Bischoff is now the interviewer as well as announcer. He was with Stan Hansen & Randy Savage, with both men looking with contempt at Bischoff. Hansen said that once the two had got rid of Flair & Lane tonight, there would be no more challengers to the Heavyweight Title. Savage told Hansen to leave Flair to him, with Hansen reluctantly nodding. ~ Segment 3 - Singles Contest "Callous" Mark Calloway def. Black Bart ~ Calloway defeated another token AW heel, making short work of Black Bart this month. Bart lasted until the 3 minute mark, longer then Regal, but only because Calloway took longer to demolish him before the Powerbomb. ~ Segment 4 - Singles Contest Mil Mascaras def. Hexagano ~ Hexagano's first ever match was against the much more experienced Mascaras, but Mil only had to carry the match partly, with Hex doing as best as he could. A worrying moment came at the end of the match however, with Mil knocking Hexagano to the floor. Mil climbed to the top rope, then launched off backwards with a Moonsault. Unfortunately, when he landed on the mat, Mil's right foot seemed to land awkwardly, causing him to scream out in pain. The referee counted the three, even though Mil was hardly on top of Hex. Hex and the referee helped Mascaras to the back afterwards. Segment 5 - The Production Team Presents ~ A short, to the point, video played, giving insight into the Team Japan incident. It first showed Mask & Kengo attacking Tiger and Jumbo, then Mask & Kengo taking the Tag Titles. Finally, the introduction of Bobby Heenan and the return of Tiger & Jumbo. We now go to the announce booth...~ Segment 6 - Tri-State...TV Champ! ~ ...where Gene Kelly was holding a contract, and a title belt. Gene announced that AW had got a contract with a network for the Tri-State area. Starting in March, "Reckless Aggression", AW's first TV show would go out on Sunday nights at 11 PM. With this news, the heads of AW had decided to introduce a Television Title - the Tri-State TV title. Kelly said a tournament would start soon to decide the first champion. ~ Segment 7 - Three Way Aggresive Tag Titles Contest Team Japan (Lion Mask & Kengo Kimura) w/ Bobby Heenan def. Adrian Street & Fit Finlay, Team Japan (Tiger Mask & Jumbo Tsuruta) ~ Again, it was a cheat to win tactic that helped Team Japan retain. To begin with, it seemed that Street & Finlay would be the unlikely victors when they took out Lion and Jumbo with tandem suplexes. But Heenan distracted Finlay, allowing Kimura to roll Street up and eliminate the team. With the Team Japan's left, it seemed like it would be a Kengo/Tiger singles contest, until Jumbo got back to his feet. Heenan signalled to the back, as he grabbed Jumbo's leg. Jumbo bent down to grab Heenan, only to be sprayed with a substance in the face. Another asian man (an extremely young looking one) jumped onto the apron, kicking Jumbo stiffly in the ribs. Jumbo bumped into Tiger, allowing Kengo to small package Tiger and retain the titles. The newcomer helped Lion up, as the boosted Team Japan took the titles to the back. ~ Segment 8 - Volleying Back ~ Ric Flair and Eric Bischoff are backstage, as Flair shouts into the microphone. He says that if Randy Savage thinks he has even the slightest chance at ever beating Flair, then he's a dumber man then Ric thought. With regards to the match, Flair said that he didn't care about Hansen, just Savage, before storming down the corridor.~ Segment 9 - Triple Threat Aggresive Heavyweight Title Contenders Contest Rick Martel def. Dusty Rhodes, Adrian Adonis ~ Martel shocked everyone by getting the surprise win for the second event in a row. Adonis and Dusty double teamed Martel to begin with, before beginning to fight amongst themselves. Adrian stopped the Bionic Elbow, then locked in the Goodnight Irene. Martel jumped Adonis though, throwing him out of the ring. Dusty, weakened from the sleeper, was sent to the mat, and Martel easily locked in the Quebec Crab. Rhodes reached out to Adonis who was recovering on the outside, but Adrian couldn't help Rhodes in time. Dusty tapped, and Martel ran to the back quicker then a bullet. Adonis bashed the mat in anger, before tending to Dusty on the mat. ~ Segment 10 - Catfight...What? Lion Mask and Bobby Heenan were with Bischoff, with Mask writing things on a piece of paper. Heenan was smiling chessily at Bischoff, who seemed annoyed that his interview wasn't going anywhere. Finally, Mask handed the paper to Heenan, who took his time in reading it. He then declared "I can't read this", then said to Bischoff that Lion was challenging Tiger Mask to a Mask vs. Mask math. Lion had no idea what was being said, and just nodded along with Heenan. Segment 11 - Tag Team Contest Randy Savage & Stan Hansen def. Ric Flair & Stan Lane ~ If Savage and Flair wanted to be left alone, they soon got their wish. Hansen and Lane brawled all the way to the backstage area after about 10 minutes, leaving Flair and Savage as the legal men. Savage tried to take out Flair's legs, and therefore possibly stop the Figure Four. Ric stopped that though with some big chops, and then humiliating Savage by giving Randy his own finisher, the Piledriver. Ric then attempted a Figure Four, but Savage regained his senses quickly and grabbed the ropes to break the hold. Still, Flair kept it on upto the four count before letting the submission go. Flair got up, grabbed Savage...and got nailed with a low blow. A Piledriver took Ric down, and it was then that Savage climbed the ropes, succesfully delivering the Elbow Drop this time. A quick cover later, and Savage had got one back on Flair. ~

AFTER SHOW NOTES: Mil Mascaras was reportedly in alot of pain with a suspected broken ankle. Hexagano freaked out several times, continually aplogising to Mil for believing to have caused the incident. No one blames Hex though, including Mascaras. If it is a break (about 90% confirmed) then Mascaras will be out until around May-June. As Gene Kelly said, the big news buzzing around backstage was the TV deal AW have signed. Some people seemed worried that the show would be going out so late (11 PM), but the consesus was that it was good whatever for the company. Two big names were backstage signing contracts also on the night, due to the company anticipating a need for "big" names to boost ratings. They are...Pat Patterson (recently released by WWF of course) and Terry Funk. It's not known if the other Funks are coming to AW either. Other talent is expected to be signed.

Reckless Aggression, March 7th, 1983 Show Location - RPI Fieldhouse Attendance - Approx. 1,110 Segment 1 - Singles Contest "Callous" Mark Calloway def. Bobby Eaton ~ Right, first of all. Why is Calloway squashing someone AW's first ever televised match? Anyway, Eaton gets demolished like everyone else with the Powerbomb around 3 minutes. Calloway's getting slightly over now, which is good in some ways. ~ Segment 2 - Necessary Highlight Package #1 ~ So, as if to make up for the horrible first match, AW show us some highlights of the ongoing rivalry between Ric Flair & Randy Savage. Essentially, it's a 3 minute video about 2 matches. Anyway, it seems to be put together considerably better then ones the company has previously done. ~ Segment 3 - Randy Savage, Agony Aunt ~ In some part of the Fieldhouse, Randy is surrounded with mailbags (as if to prove the point, "U.S Mail" is printed on the front). He says he'll answer one fan's question every week. He opens an envelope up, and reads the question out loud - unfortunately, it's to Ric Flair apparently. Savage goes crazy, kicking the mailbags and saying Flair's going to pay. ~ Segment 4 - Singles Contest Tiger Mask def. Kenta w/ Bobby Heenan ~ Kenta's pro wrestling debut didn't go the way Heenan would have wanted to, as Tiger pretty much demolished Kenta. Kenta, to his credit, pulled out some stiff chops at one point, as well as kick to the ribs that took Tiger to the mat. But it was Lion Mask who accidently gave Tiger the win, as when he ran down to attack Tiger, Kenta ended up taking an accidental chair shot. With Heenan distracting the referee, Tiger shoved Lion away and pinned Kenta. ~ Segment 5 - Who Saw That Coming? ~ Tiger turned round, ready to get jumped by Lion. Lion was hiding under the ring though, and got out behind Tiger. Taking the chair too, Lion smashed the chair over Tiger's back and head repeatedly, before allowing Kenta to kick Tiger a bit. Team Japan headed to the back, as Medics came to Tiger's aid. ~ Segment 6 - Necessary Highlight Package #2 ~ Now we're looking at Adrian Adonis, Dusty Rhodes, Rick Martel and Stan Hansen, focusing on the recent war for the Heavyweight Title. Mainly the package looks at Adonis and Hansen, with just snippets of Rhodes & Martel. So, who would be surprised in any way shape or form for the result of the next match? ~ Segment 7 - Aggressive Heavyweight Title Contest Stan Hansen [c] def. Rick Martel ~ For the first time in the night, AW used two of their big stars in a well presented match. Despite both normally being billed as heels, Martel was the face tonight, as Hansen cheated more than him...yeh. Anyway, Hansen blocked the Quebec Crab, and a low blow led to the Lariat. Of course, it didn't end there, as Adonis ran in, tackling Hansen to the mat. The referee declared a DQ win for Hansen, as Adonis pummelled the champion, before agents ran out to stop him. Martel slowly came to his senses, trying to pin Hansen, unaware he had already lost. When he was told, he made a charge for Adonis, but agents held him back too.~ Segment 8 - The Bill for Flair, Surprise for Savage ~ Now it's the obligatory Flair retort, as he goes wild and goes on at Savage. He ends his little rant by saying "If you think you're gonna scare me Randy, then I have a big surprise for you!"...how generic! ~ Segment 9 - Jackpot Contest Ricky Steamboat def. Ric Flair ~ Had the crowd have known more about Steamboat, it would have added the little bit extra that would have made this match a classic. Steamboat reversed the Figure Four two times before the ten minute mark, coming back to lock in the Double Chicken Wing. Flair struggled for what seemed like an eternity, somehow breaking the hold and forcing Steamboat to rethink his battle plan. The Flying Body Press was a bad choice, as Flair shook the ropes. Steamboat landed legs on either side of the buckle, as Flair joined Ricky on the top. In a move never seen before, Flair proceeded to lock in the Figure Four, hanging Ricky upside down. Although Flair was forced to let go by a 5 Count, the damage seemed done. But when Randy Savage appeared, Flair called his rival to the ring...but got more than he bargained for, when Pat Patterson and Dick Murdoch joined Savage. Steamboat had crawled into the ring by now, and rolled up Flair to get a surprise win - just as Savage, Murdoch & Patterson made their way to the ring. ~ Segment 10 - FUUUUUUUUUUUUUNK! ~ Steamboat, noticing the bad guys now getting in the ring, grabbed the ropes to pull himself up. As soon as he was up, the trio knocked him down again as they levelled him with punches. Flair too was attacked, when Terry Funk ran to the ring, steel chair in hand. Savage and Murdoch ducked out of the ring, but Patterson felt the force of Funk, being drilled with the steel. Savage and Murdoch got back in to double team Funk, but Flair managed to his feet to help his new-found ally. Steamboat and Patterson soon joined the fray, and the 6 men ended the first ever Reckless Aggression in a mass brawl. ~

AFTER SHOW NOTES: Much delight backstage after the show, as AW got it's highest ever attandance, and a reportedly good rating for the channel and timeslot. Dusty Rhodes on the other hand didn't even turn up for the show, leading to some confusion as to his position in the company. It was a tough decision reportedly whether to start the show with the Calloway or Tiger Mask match. In the end, it was Calloway being given the nod. Of course, the very fact Calloway was given this honor leads more people to believe he is set up for a massive push. He has been seen working on his conditioning also, as the fact he was getting tired after such short matches was worrying the management. So at least Calloway is working to deserve his spot. Speaking of Tiger Mask, the feud with Lion Mask is becoming one of the major points of AW. The worrying thing in the eyes of some backstage is the Tag Titles' image could get tarnished, as focus turns to these two in particular. Prior to the show being taped (the show is shot at 7), Jumbo Tsuruta beat Billy Two Eagles in what was supposed to be a triangle match, but Kengo Kimura walked out before the match began. Finally, the other thing that is interesting is AFTER the show, there was an announcement that in 2 weeks at the Fieldhouse, AW would hold it's next big event, "War and Destruction". No matches were confirmed, but AW seem to be holding out late with regards to the next show - a slight slip up with all the hype going into the first TV Show?
