GAMMA – From the Beginning

Monday Week 1, January 1991

Matt Tripp has just announced that he is going to catch on a new trend that started by International Shoot League (ISL for short) in Japan in 1988, the new sport of Mixed Martial Arts, and decided to open Global Association Mixed Martial Arts, or GAMMA for short, based in Las Vegas. Tripp also announced that GAMMA has signed a Pay Per View deal with Public Access Select.

Matt wants to showcase some of the best fighters that the world has to offer. He also said that there will be no rules, except no eye pokes and no low blows, the fights will have a time limit of 30 minutes and if no winner has been decided before 30 minutes the decision lays in the judges’ hands. There will also be no weight classes, GAMMA will instead use a openweight class where super heavyweights can square off against middleweights. GAMMA will also use a tournament format where eight men competes for both the honor and the price money of $250 000. The winners of the two first tournaments will qualify to compete for the GAMMA Superfight title at GAMMA’s third tournament. From GAMMA 3 and onward the winner of the tournament will qualify for a title match.

GAMMA 1: The Beginning is expected to be held in Las Vegas at Friday Week 1, February with the following fighters competing in the tournament:

Mantas Andreyev Nationality: Russian Style: Sambo

Jack Cobblepot Nationality: American Style: Grappling

Bill Cumming Nationality: American Style: Wrestling

Greg Atteveld Nationality: American Style: Brazilian Jiu Jitzu

Joaquim Fontes Nationality: Brazilian Style: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Jasper Osmond Nationality: American Style: Wrestling

Mick Curran Nationality: Welsh Style: Brawling

Nigel Malley Nationality: American Style: Boxing

The winner of the tournament will, as already mentioned, qualify for a title fight at GAMMA 3 and the fighters that proceed to the semi finals will earn a spot in the tournament at GAMMA 2. And the fighter that loses in the quarter final against the winner will also qualify for GAMMA 2.

There will also be qualifying matches for the last four spots in GAMMA 2.
