With the blessing of Burning Hamster I am currently updating his TEW 2010 mod that is set in January 1996, I am updating it to May of 96 when Kevin Nash and Scott Hall's contracts have just finished and they are all ready to join WCW. So far the mod is already playable in America and I am currently using it for a dynasty but the game still needs some things done that will take time like employment histories, updating of Japan and Mexico and designing a new picture pack. Hopefully these won't take long and the mod will be ready for release sooner rather than later.

Raw and Nitro are currently going head to head for an hour every Monday night and with the current settings both shows are averaging around 3.0 in the ratings every week which is replicant of how close the ratings were at this time in real life before the nWo was formed and WCW's ratings took off. For those reading my current dynasty some things are in their that will be different to in this mod for example at this time the dungeon of doom and the horseman are about to feud, in my diary i have the dungeon of doom as faces but in real life both stables were heels during this time as they feuded not only with each other but the top faces in WCW like Sting, Hogan and Savage. Another is that Brian Pillman is in my WCW diary and i have chosen to forget the strap match and Pillman getting fired but in the mod he will be a free agent due to him being injured.

What's going on at this time:

WCW:

. Following the failed alliance to end Hulkamania run Dungeon of Doom and The Horseman have split up and look to be heading into battle with eachother.

. Hulk Hogan is becoming slightly stale in his character and fans are starting to turn on him.

. The Giant's second world title run.

. Introduction of foreign stars like Konnan, Jushin Liger, Eddie Guerrero etc.

. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall have just signed for the company but the news is yet to be spoiled online.

. The strong tag team division continues to grow as more and more teams make the division the strongest it's ever been.

WWF:

. Losing two major stars to their rivals the company needs to find new stars in the undercard which currently include Hunter Hearst Hemsley, Steve Austin and Owen Hart.

. Shawn Michaels is the top babyface and just won his first World title from Bret Hart in a sixty minute iron man match, now Bret looks to take a short period of time off to let Michaels adjust to the top babyface role.

. Struggling for star power, Roddy Piper and The Ultimate Warrior have been brought back for another run with the company.

. The recently debuted Vader is being positioned to be a monster heel to take on Michaels in the future and is gearing up for a rivalry with Yokozuna to get him to that level.

Sweet. The move up to May brings the '96 King of the Ring within easy reach and with it the birth of Austin 3:16. I'll look forward to this mod.

So Rocky Maivia becomes available in the summer? Does the WWF get a first look at signing him or can WCW swoop in and steal him away?

Just one small thing I would like to see included in this. This is right around the timeframe that Bret Hart's contract was running out, when he signed the 20-year deal that ended up being only one and a half years long. His contract should be just about to run out with the WWF, making WCW able to see if they can swoop in and steal him for the lineup that Eric Bischoff has said he REALLY wanted the nWo to start with. Other than that, I'm very much looking forward to this!

There's no reason why WWF would get the first shot at Rocky, as he actually worked for USWA before signing there, anyway. He didn't come out of their "dojo," so he should just be a free agent.
USWA, I'd not realized. Thanks for the quick response.

Agreed. He signed his 20-year deal on October 21, 1996, which means he could have been available for Halloween Havoc.

I think having it expire in October would be a great idea.

That would be cool to have the Outsiders at Bash at the Beach take on Sting and Macho Man or something like that. Then at Halloween Havoc the 3rd man unveils himself as Bret Hart. That would be an awesome nWo.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys!

  • Bret Hart will start with a short term contract, not sure what to go with though, 3 months would mean it expires in August and 6 months would be November and since most of you are talking about what Starrcade 96 would have looked like with him involved it will probably be the 3 month deal so he can get a good few months build to Starrcade (if he was to jump ship to WCW that is) and if you desperately wanted him to debut or jump ship at a certain time than you could use the in game editor when playing.

  • Rocky Mavia will start the mod wrestling for USWA as Flex Kavana

I may be wrong, but it was my impression that Bret went on a hiatus from wrestling after that year's WrestleMania - and that he was actually without a contract untill re-signing with WWF in October...?

At the moment he is set with a contract with the WWF but has an 'injury' that is 'taking some time off' which lasts until his contract ends with the WWF so you can replicate the bidding war between WCW and the WWF over him in late 96.

If anyone would prefer me to have him without a contract and on hiatus instead and you can choose when to bring him back into the game than i can change it.

I'm just thinking that such an approach would allow the player to bring him in for Bash at The Beach. :)

While i like the idea of this, i am hesitant as basically who ever the user is will end up signing Bret Hart. While most the time he may join WCW for the money they can offer, hopefully some of the time he will stay with the WWF due to his loyalty to them. Again if the majority want him just to be on hiatus than tha will be done.

Go with what you feel is best, it's your mod. I was just throwing it out there. :)

I think if you set his loyalty to the WWF and add his strong friendship with Vince McMahon it should make for a great bidding war against Ted's Billions.

That's exactly what has been done, he will start with a 3 month contract with the WWF and then let the bidding war begin, although it squashes the chances of him being at WCW Bash at the Beach, the player can always delay the nWo angle if necessary.

I would love to bring Bret in as the leader. Then run thru some dream matches. Bret then goes over Hogan at Starrcade 96. Then maybe Hogan joins a few months later because if you can't beat them join them. Then Sting could get a shot at whichever one is the champion at Starrcade 97 after a very similiar build of being in the rafters as Crow Sting.

Bret Hart

Hollywood Hogan

Kevin Nash

Scott Hall

Jim Neidhart or British Bulldog (to be Bret Harts bodyguard?)

Syxx (He has to be the sixth member)

This would be an awesome nWo I think. You could even use The Giant instead of the Hart Foundation link. The Giant served as a great bodyguard/stepping stone to the World Title.

Growing in size much bigger than 6 is overkill I feel. Now eventually having Scott Norton, Buff Bagwell, and Scott Steiner join or earn their heelish personas somehow would be ideal. Maybe they could become their own 3 person faction.

Ultimately Hogan or Bret would always be in the World Title picture (could lead to the demise of the nWo), Hall and Nash are always in the Tag Title picture, Syxx could be on the outside of the Cruiserweight Title picture but get a couple runs with the belt. Neidhart/Bulldog could go for the TV Title. Giant could be a US Title guy or Bret Hart could be a US Title guy.

That is how I think I would book things. When the nWo has tension between Hogan and Hart they could split with Hogan and the Outsiders taking over the nWo and Bret going to form his own stable or go face in order to feud with his previous creation. Imagine Bret Hart and Sting teaming up to feud with the Outsiders. I think that would be a fun tag team.

Don't forget The British Bulldog was suppost to be the 4th member (wrestler as Dibiase was the financial backer) instead of The Giant. Bulldog contract was up and decided to sign another deal with the wwf instead. So I would set Bulldog's contract to the end of August. The Giant joined the nwo on September 2, 96.
