ShotgunShogun
(Just if anyone didn't know, I had a previous dynasty that I'll bump so you can look through. I'll be attempting that again, this time with better results, I turned down the injuries at least until the Grand Prix ends. I'll speed through the Grand Prix as I want to get to what happens after, this dynasty will make it this time!) January 1, 1998 Today is a significant day for not only ALPHA-1 but the whole Mixed Martial Arts world. The Japanese MMA company has signed a new booker, the American Scott Avatar. This day wouldn't be that important if Avatar was continuing the format previously used before his signing. Apparently, Avatar is changing a lot of format and rules of ALPHA-1. The rules will be changed slightly as the significant rule change is the banning of elbows. *Elbows are being banned due to the danger of the points of the elbows.* The time is being changed as title fights will be the same time as regular matches, 1 ten minute round followed by 2 five minute rounds. One of the most talked about changes is the weight classes, these are the new weight classes... Heavyweight- 206-600 (more than or equal to 93 kg) Middleweight- 184-205 (less than or equal to 93 kg) Welterweight- 162-183 (less than or equal to 83 kg) Lightweight- 145-161 (less than or equal to 73 kg) This brings me on to the next point, every title has been changed to the new weight classes and vacated. There will be four simultaneous Grand Prix's going on to decide the new champions. No news on what would happen after but it is speculated they will run annual Grand Prix's for different weight classes for trophies. There's also rumors on an Open Weight Grand Prix or a 4 man champion tournament. *This rule will not take place until the Quarterfinals, after the opening 16 fighters fight. ShotgunShogun
ALPHA-1 has posted the official fight card for the opening round of the Grand Prix... The reason why this is suprising is because he is the #18 light heavyweight and he wont be in the tournament. Avatar made a statement about it saying, "I am not happy that Hyun Shik Lim won't be in the Grand Prix, I told him it was to late into the tournament to make the change but he said he will give him a good opportunity in the future. ShotgunShogun
ALPHA-1: Middleweight GP Opener Results (The night before, everyone made weight, no one missing.) In a great night of fights, lets start with a quick recap of the 2 alternate matches for this event... Gekko Goto(5-0)[+180] vs. Ebizo Fujishima(24-12)[-230] In this battle of alternates, Goto wrestled with Fujishima even with his 9 inch reach advantage. At the middle of the 1st round, he started using that jab and got back that round after failed grappling. In the second, Fujishima cracked Goto but got taken down in the process. He stalled on the ground, Goto was looking tired going into the 3rd. Goto knowing he had to make an impact, took down Fujishima at the beginning of the 3rd and worked for an armbar. He made Fujishima tap. The winner was Gekko Goto by Armbar in the 3rd round. Jerry Bogdonovich(5-0)[-620] vs. Augustus Shorrock(2-0)[+490] In this very short battle, Bogdonovich made his impact as he demolished Shorrock on the feet. He didn't miss a beat and eventually landed a swarm that dropped Shorrock and finished him off with punches. The winner was Jerry Bogdonovich by Technical Knockout in the 1st round. In the Grand Prix battles, the fights started with a battle between Sho Kitabatake vs. Ieyoshi Yamashita. #8 Sho Kitabatake(13-0)[-200] vs. #9 Ieyoshi Yamashita(22-10)[+150] In a great first round, Kitabatake was actually getting hit with some good shots until he got a grapple. They seperated and more of the same until Kitabatake got a perfectly timed takedown against Yamashita. Kitabatake was showing some dominance on the ground, getting Yamashita's back but the bell rang. The second was slow as it revolved around grappling against the ropes, Kitabatake couldn't get a takedown and looked tired by the end of that round. Kitabatake felt the pressure in the 3rd and got this one to the floor with a great hip toss. Kitabatke schooling Yamashita on the ground gets a deep armbar and makes him tap. The winner was Sho Kitabatake by Armbar in the 3rd round. #7 Mal Phe Roby(15-4)[+140] vs. #10 Robun Yamakazi(37-12)[-180] In a round revolved on the stand up, it was mostly Yamakazi trying to avoid the endless attacks from Roby. About half way through, Yamakazi tried a takedown but that didn't work. Yamakazi was checking Roby's leg kicks and didn't get hit with anything major in that round. In the second, Roby started landing more causing Yamakazi to shoot, his first attempt was stuffed. His second was stuffed but he ate a soccer kick, he defended him self and got back standing though. Roby was really looking for that leg kick but it had no real effect and the round ends with a battered Yamakazi. Roby in the 3rd cracks Yamakazi with a right, and kept him at distance. Then Yamakazi clinched and got the fight to the floor but he did nothing with it and the bell rang before he knew it. To the judges, the 2 dominant rounds from Roby were enough to give him the fight. The winner was Mal Phe Roby by Unanimous Decision. #6 Haranobu Oshiro(15-5)[-190] vs. #11 Dokuohtei Kuroki(33-13)[+150] In the first round, Kuroki showed he was really 42 with a mediocre performance, letting Oshiro bully him standing. He shot for an astounding 6 takedowns but couldn't get one of them, Oshiro was really in control this round. Oshiro started the 2nd sprawling a Kuroki takedown and landing a huge kick to his body. Oshiro was looking winded by the end of the second, but still landed a huge shot to end the round. The 3rd was very hopeful for Kuroki as he got Oshiro down to the ground with plenty of time, he tried hard but couldn't get the finish, although he had Oshiro in a wicked Kimura and Arm Triangle choke. The judges thought this one went either way Kuroki got the 1st judges decision, but Oshiro won the split decision. The winner was Haranobu Oshirio by Split Decision. #5 Heiji Endo(12-1)[-380] vs. #12 Kojuro Kudo(10-2-1NC)[+300] Endo knew Kudo's strengths so he caught an early kick and got this fight to the ground. Taking advantage of the elbows, he landed a couple of those and a lot of crushing knees to the body as well. Endo got Kudo's back halfway through the round but got turned over after a failed RNC. Endo keeps a tight grip of Kudo, keeping him in guard, he throws up his legs and locks in a Triangle. He makes Kudo tap in a thrilling ground battle. The winner was Heiji Endo by Traingle Choke in the 1st Round. #4 Bambang Sriyanto(22-6-2)[-390] vs. #13 Kyuwa Itou(22-11)[+310] In this striking battle, Sriyanto got it to his best asset, his Muay Thai clinch. He landed good elbows that cut Itou open. In a quickly bloody battle, Sriyanto literally smelt blood and put the pressure on from the clinch and landed a series of knees that knocked out Itou. The winner was Bambang Sriyanto by Knockout in the 1st round. #3 Jin Katou(17-0)[-940] vs. #14 Ryosei Sakamoto(8-0)[+750] Katou showed he is a dangerous competitor taking down an experienced wrestler and mounting him early. After some GnP, Katou saw an opening and grabbed an arm and tapped out Sakamoto with a tight Americana. The winner was Jin Katou by Americana in the 1st round. #2 Zvonomir Asanovic(27-2)[-810] vs. #15 Yoritomo Ina(21-8)[+640] What a crazy battle by these two, even though it was controlled by the striking of Asanovic. Asanovic defended 3 takedowns from Ina then he sprawled a 4th and landed a couple of soccer kicks, then we saw something unusual, Asanovic got on top of Ina in his side control. Eventually, the fight was stood back up for inactivity, then Asanovic defends one more before he just takes this fight. He sprawls a 6th takedown, and as mad as he was, Asanovic lands the biggest soccer kick I've ever seen, Pele would've been impressed as Ina slumps over. The winner was Asanovic by Knockout in the 1st round. #1 Tadamasa Yamada(21-1)[-1160] vs. #16 Gempachi Higa(17-9)[+920] Yamada closes out this event with a dominant ground battle as he gets down Higa. Yamada proceeds to land shots at will eventually getting to Higa's back and pounding him out for a TKO. The winner was Tadamasa Yamada by Technical Knockout in the 1st round. ShotgunShogun
ALPHA-1 Lightweight GP In a fast paced lightweight night, we'll start with the prelims... Shinsui Sakata(2-0)[+140] vs. Lamont Banner(1-0)[-180] Sakata isn't delusional and knew he needed this fight to go to the ground but he couldn't in this fight. He controlled Banner against the ropes until Banner slipped out and started to land combinations on Sakata. Sakata dropped and covered up for dear life but the referee had seen enough and the fight was stopped. The winner was Lamont Banner by Technical Knockout in the 1st round. Rory McEnterry(2-0)[-160] vs. Hoshi Nagai(4-0)[+120] Nagai proved all the betters wrong as he took the fight and landed one huge head kick that sent McEnterry back to Boston. The winner was Hoshi Nagai by Knockout in the 1st round. Then the Grand Prix matches started up between... #8 Mikio Inouye(7-2)[-140] vs. #9 Eizan Ijichi(7-1-1)[-160] The first round of this fight was pretty uneventful stand up controlled by Ijichi with his leg kicks until Ijichi knocked down Inouye. Ijichi ended the round in half guard. The 2nd round was more of the same as Ijichi really battered the leg of Inouye. Ijichi countered a huge swarm in the beginning of the 3rd, knocking down Inouye. He swarmed him and Inouye couldn't defend himself, the fight was stopped. The winner was Eizan Ijichi by Technical Knockout in the 3rd round. #7 Gregg Grable(19-9)[-130] vs. #10 Korekiyo Anzai(6-0)[-150] Anzai controlled this fightr with one weapon, his jab, he landed that thing constantly and that kept Grable's takedowns at bay. Grable got a little too frantic and left his chin open for a huge Anzai uppercut, that sent Grable to the canvas unconcious. The winner was Korekiyo Anzai by Knockout in the 1st round. #6 Eijiro Yanagita(25-11-2)[-240] vs. #11 Shiko Taka(6-2-1NC)[+190] The first round of this fight was very boring, nothing really happened, Taka got a takedown halfway through and just lied on top of him in mount. The 2nd and 3rd round are just Taka in guard doing basically nothing and that is what got him the decision. The winner was Shiko Taka by Unanimous Decision. #5 Naizen Hamacho(7-0)[-260] vs. #12 Yagi Jokichi(4-0)[+200] The 1st round was a pretty uneventful standup battle, being bettered by Jokichi's karate background. The best shot was the low blow landed on Jokichi, that was about it. The 2nd round was completely different, Jokichi hits a big combo that staggered Hamacho. Then they both throw big shots, swinging, an very faced paced round which Jokichi got the better of. In the 3rd, they clinch and Jokichi got cut from 2 elbows on the ropes, which the doctor checked and said it was ok. They end the fight striking, and the big shots from Jokichi earned him the decision. The winner was Yagi Jokichi by Unanimous Decision. #4 Shizuya Nakae(23-11)[-520] vs. #13 So Yip(10-4)[+410] Shizuya knew the dangers of the Yip's wild style and avoided that with a big takedown. Yip looked alright from his back but eventually, Nakae got into Yips mount and landed huge shots on Yip which stopped the fight. The winner by Technical Knockout was Shizuya Nakae. #3 Go Yamamoto(26-9)[-1070] vs. #14 Fujimaro Hidaka(4-1)[+850] Yamamoto controlled the action early, landing good leg kicks and landing good strikes from the clinch. The Hidaka went down from a low blow. Yamamoto actually looked tired at the end of the round but still managed to knockdown Hidaka at the end of the round. Hidaka with a suprise head kick to start the 2nd that knocks down Yamamoto, but Yamamoto ends up on top for most of the round after a scramble. Hidaka was starting to light up Yamamoto suprisingly, Yamamoto got trapped against the ropes and dropped by Hidaka. The referee stops the fight, Hidaka pulls of a huge upset. The winner was Fujimaro Hidaka by Technical Knockout. #2 Fumiaki Hayashi(16-4)[-800] vs. #15 David James Diggle(3-0)[+630] The 1st round was a pure striking match with Diggle getting hit with 2 low blows, which slowed the fight down. Hayashi should have been penalized for those but he wasn't and coasted through that round. Hayashi shows great leg kicks by dropping Diggle with one and mounting him, Hayashi gets the stoppage. The winner was Fumiaki Hayashi by Technical Knockout. #1 Motoki Hojo(15-3)[-780] vs. #16 Manoel Cabral(3-0)[+620] This night wont end with a dominant victory, someone came to fight tonight. Cabral came out like a trooper looking to get this fight to the ground but gets hit with a lot of strikes. Cabral got sprawled and soccer kicked twice, but got right back up, he got hit with rights but still pressed forward. The round ended with Cabral in side control. Cabral starts pressing the tired Hojo and eventually got a huge takedown, getting side control. Hojo was getting bullied on the ground and Cabral got his back. Cabral gets the Rear Naked Choke and makes Hojo tap, another upset victory. Cabral a BJJ fighter from Brazil shocks the world tonight and shows he's the real deal. The NCAA March Madness has never had a #16 seed beat a #1 but this is the first one in MMA history. The winner was Manoel Cabral by Rear Naked Choke in the 2nd round. Juro Fukazawa(11-5)[-380] vs. Yaichiro Takahama(1-0)[+300] Early in this fight, Fukuzawa was landing some good leg kicks until he got rocked after Takahama countered one. After eating some shots, Takahama landed a great combo that dropped Fukuzawa. Takahama got side control and landed some good knees to Fukuzawa's body until he got his back. That is where he finished the round. In the second, Fukuzawa was getting lit up until Takahama dropped him and finished him. The winner was Yaichiro Takahama by Technical Knockout in the 2nd round. Thomaz de Miranda(5-1)[-140] vs. Heikichi Shimizu(2-0)[-160] This is a fight of avoiding the takedown and Miranda did that masterfully. In the first round, he avoided 4 takedowns and landed good shots on Shimizu. In the second, Miranda was landing beautiful combinations on Shimizu until he got takendown with 30 seconds. In the 3rd, Mirana avoided 2 takedowns and finished the fight teeing off on Shimizu. Miranda's striking earned him the decision nod. The winner was Thomaz de Miranda by Unanimous Decision. In the main card, the first fight was... #8 Yeijiro Yamamoto(15-3)[-130] vs. #9 Simon Vine(19-6)[-130] Simon Vine knew he needed this fight to go to the ground but he did something interesting which was he clinched with the Muay Thai fighter. After being seperated, Vine timed a perfect takedown and proceeded to bully Yamamoto on the ground with big knees, and ground and pound from Yamamoto's back. The 2nd wasn't so entertaining as Vine got a takedown but did absolutely nothing with it and held on until the round ended. Yamamoto was starting to connect in the 3rd but couldn't land a big shot before the match ended. Vine's first 2 rounds of dominant wrestling got him the nod in the decision. The winner was Simon Vine by Unanimous Decision. #7 Ikku Funaki(14-4)[-230] vs. #10 Keith Plaice(12-4)[+180] Funaki looked like a monster as he overwhelmed Plaice and knocked him down early and beat him up until the referee stopped. The winner was Ikku Funaki by Technical Knockout in the 1st round. #6 Fukusaburu Hirano(10-0-1)[-430] vs. #11 Bakin Sakamoto(19-9)[+340] This was a great back and forth stand up battle with some clinch work too, an all around kickboxing match. That was until Hirano knocked down Sakamoto with an uppercut from the clinch, Hirano wasted no time and beat up Sakamoto until the fight was stopped. The winner was Fukusaburu Hirano by Technical Knockout in the 1st round. #5 Chew Chua(17-4)[-420] vs. #12 Jungo Futagawa(16-8)[+330] Chua and Futagawa started the fight swinging and this lead to a nice Chua body shot which rocked Futagawa. Chua landed big blows which dropped Futagawa. Chua went in for the kill and got the finish. The winner was Chew Chua by Technical Knockout in the first round. #4 Syed Tan(13-2-1)[-400] vs. #13 Chojiro Goto(8-2)[+310] Tan shows that elbows are deadly with his vicious stoppage. He started teeing of on Goto the moment the fight started, landing hard blows on the clueless Goto. After 3 minutes of this, Tan lands vicious rights that drop Goto and proceeds to punish him with huge elbows that could cut through solid steel. The winner was Syed Tan by Technical Knockout in the 1st round. #3 Xie Ming(20-4)[-470] vs. #14 Keita Oshima(18-6)[+370] The 1st round was uneventful, with some good striking shown from both fighters, Oshima was starting to counter near the end of the round. Ming started to land his vicious leg kicks in this round, Oshima was limping out there, he's lucky Ming grappled for the rest of the round. Ming starts the round by dropping Oshima with another leg kick and spends the whole round in side control beating up Oshima. The judges took Ming's grappling and big leg kicks to give him the decision. The winner was Xie Ming by Unanimous Decision. #2 Carlos da Guia(15-0)[-640] vs. #15 Kafu Bunya(9-0)[+510] This round could be considered for round of the year, this had everything. Bunya was actually outstriking da Guia on the outside, picking him apart with a counter jab. Bunya was avoiding da Guia' spinning attacks, Bunya even hit a huge spinning back kick. da Guia's highlight was the minute of grappling against the ropes. Bunya was countering even more until da Guia used his Muay Thai and clinched the rest of the round landing some dirty boxing. Da Guia's cardio was being tested, he looked exausthed that round. Bunya was keeping this fight an outside affair, picking apart the tired da Guia's attacks with perfectly timed strikes. At the end of the 3rd, we knew we had seen one of the biggest upsets in history, and sure enough, Bunya got the nod. 2 former champions now eliminated after Hojo got tapped by Cabral at the last event. The winner was Kafu Bunya by Unanimous Decision. #1 Ichisake Miyagi(21-3)[-670] vs. #16 Alex Cole(7-0)[+530] Many thought after that first round we'd see another upset. Cole was dominating, he took down Miyagi and denied Miyagi's scambles for most of the round. Cole almost had a Rear Naked Choke but lost his position, but anyone knows he was in charge of that first round. Miyagi was being out grappled in the 2nd, being dominated in the clinch and then tripped with about 2 minutes left. Cole ended the round in side control but he looked drained after that round. Miyagi knows he's in danger so he takes down Cole and ends up in his side control, Cole takes so much damage that the referee stops it. Miyagi ended the streak of upsets even though it looked like Cole was winning. The winner was Ichisake Miyagi by Technical Knockout in 1:57 of the 3rd round. After a little while of being under Trailescu's side control, de Matos scrambled and got Trailescu's back, but that was lost and had to settle with being on top of Trailescu in side control. After a while, they were stood up and end with some stand up. Back and forth stand up in round 2, nothing special. Round 3, de Matos got dropped by Trailescu but survived and scrambled on top of Trailescu in side control. He slips to the back and finishes Trailescu with a Rear Naked. The winner was Giovanni de Matos by Rear Naked Choke in the 3rd round. Pai Cheng(3-0)[+110] vs. Sly Twinge(3-0)[-150] Cheng was doing everything in his power to get this to the ground but he just couldn't get Twinge to the ground. Twinge eventually got a tired Cheng to the ground but does virtually nothing with it. Twinge using counterstiking in round 2 very well, countering Cheng any time he went inside. Cheng sensing the urgency, he landed a series of rights that dropped Twinge but just couldn't finish him off. He spent the rest of the round looking for submissions. Apparently, all 3 judges thought Cheng's knockdown and controlling the pace won him the fight. The winner by Unanimous Decision was Pai Cheng. The first fight on the main card: #8 Ikuhisa Tamura(19-8)[+130] vs. #9 Christopher Sharp(34-12)[-170] Sharp knew his strength in this fight and immeadiately chased it with a huge takedown on Tamura. Sharp got side control then locked Tamura in a crucifix, and Sharp rained bombs until the fight was stopped. The winner was Christopher Sharp by Technical Knockout in the 1st round. #7 Palmer Lette(19-5-2-2NC)[-380] vs. #10 Khru Duangjan(11-1)[+300] Lette grabbed an early kick and got Duangjan to the floor. He did nothing with this takedown and eventually got stood up. Rinse and repeat, the exact same thing happened except for less time. The rest of the round is Duangjan stalking Lette. Duangjan sick of Lette's stalling knocks him down in the beginning of the 2nd and rained down with stomps and kicks, Lette survived though. Duangjan gets on top and this time finishes the fight with strikes. The winner was Khru Duangjan by Technical Knockout in the 2nd round. #6 Hiro Arai(14-4)[-370] vs. #11 Gerson Mauricio[+290] In this battle of kickboxers, it was only a matetr of time before one connected. Early in the fight, they grappled a little but that didn't last. Arai kept throwing a low kick, Mauricio checked one and landed a huge right that dropped and knocked out Arai. The winner was Gerson Mauricio by Knockout in the 1st round. #5 Ari Peltonen(23-7)[-430] vs. #12 Gyokusho Fujimoto(6-0)[+340] The 1st round was the same story, Fujimoto landing on the feet and stuffing the 6 takedown attempts. In the 2nd, Peltonen capitalized on Fujimoto's weak gas tank with a big takedown, and he worked his way to Fujimoto's back. Peltonen eventually got an RNC and makes Fujimoto tap. The winner was Ari Peltonen by Rear Naked Choke in the 2nd round. #4 Mason Archer(15-3)[-680] vs. #13 Steve Mason(5-0)[+540] After 3 minutes of standing off, Archer drops Mason with a big left. He gets into Mason's side control and beats him up until the ref stops the fight. The winner was Mason Archer by Technical Knockout in the 1st round. #3 Armen Sarkisian(22-2)[-1100] vs. #14 Denbe Ekiguchi(6-3)[+870] Armen uses his size and immediately got the takedown. The winner was Armen Sarkisian by Americana in the 1st round. #2 Kunimichi Kikuchi(25-3)[-1090] vs. #15 Felipe Luiz Rosa(11-5)[+870] Kikuchi got the early takedownand immeadiately got side control. He got Rosa into an armbar and arm triangle but he didn't tap. 3rd times a charm as he locked in the kimura and Rosa tapped. The winner was Kunimichi Kikuchi by Kimura in the 1st round. #1 Hassan Fezzik(25-0)[-1200] vs. #16 Yoshikazu Inamoto(7-3)[+950] Fezzik landed good kicks early on Inamoto then did one of the biggest suprises of MMA history, he picked up and slammed Inamoto, the crowd went nuts. Fezzik then went to side control and made Inamoto tap with an armbar. The winner was Hassan Fezzik by Armbar in the 1st round. Hojo sprawled a takedown and landed a soccer kick as the bell rang. Hojo lands a big right hand at the start of the 2nd that knocked out Bretton. The winner was Motoki Hojo by Knockout in the 2nd round. Jerry Bogdonovich(6-0)[+240] vs. Hyun Shik Lim(10-0)[-310] Jerry Bogdonovich showed Lim shouldn't have been in the Grand Prix with his performance tonight. Winning the better of the exchanges, Bogdonovich eventually landed a huge right that sent Lim out of title contention. The winner was Jerry Bogdonovich by Knockout in the 1st round. In the Main Card, the first fight was: #11 Shiko Taka(7-2-1NC)[+140] vs. #14 Fujimaro Hidaka(5-1)[-180] In a 16 second fight, Hidaka only needed one head kick to end the fight. The winner was Fujimaro Hidaka by Knockout in the 1st round. #4 Shizuya Nakae(24-11)[-250] vs. #12 Yagi Jokichi(5-0)[+190] Jokichi applying a very good counter striking technique, he was rocking Nakae multiple times in the standup. Jokichi was landing even more strikes, countering a lot until Nakae got a takedown but only had 20 seconds or so to work. Jokichi starts the 3rd with multiple strikes that drop Nakae and the whole round is spent with Jokichi on top, he almost locked in an RNC but the round ended. The shots landed by Jokichi landed got him the decison in this fight. The winner was Yagi Jokichi by Unanimous Decision. #2 Fumiaki Hayashi(17-4)[-300] vs. #10 Korekiyo Anzai(7-0)[+230] Anzai immeadiately gets Hayashi into his guard, pulling it from the clinch. Then keeps Hayashi in his guard for the rest of the round, attempting a ridiculous 14 submission attempts, I dont know what happened in that round. Anzai was being lit up with strikes in the second round until he got a takedown with a minute left but didn't do much. Anzai gets the takedown in the third round and spends the rest of the fight in side control. The judges saw Anzai's takedowns and control of the fight enough for him to win, he is the 3rd of the top 3 to be eliminated in this tournament. The winner was Korekiyo Anzai by Unanimous Decison. #9 Eizan Ijichi(8-1-1)[+200] vs. #16 Manoel Cabral(4-0)[-260] Cabral takes control of the fight early and gets a takedown. He works to side control and makes Ijichi tap out with a kimura. The winner was Manoel Cabral by Kimura in the 1st round. #4 Heiji Endo(13-1)[+160] vs. #5 Bambang Sriyanto(23-6-2)[-210] Endo was actually countering good until Sriyanto gets him into the Muay Thai clinch and lands a huge knee that cuts Endo. Endo got a good trip takedown though. They got stood up and Endo got another shoot takedown. The round ends with Endo in Sriyanto's full guard. In the second, Endo tripped Sriyanto and held him there for the rest of the round, not doing anything. Endo spends the 3rd landing good shots on Sriyanto who was exhausted by the 3rd and ended the fight on a bad note. Endo's wrestling and counter striking got him the nod in this fight. The winner was Heiji Endo by Unanimous Decision. #3 Jin Katou(18-0)[-490] vs. #6 Haranobu Oshiro(16-5)[+390] Katou took down Oshiro early, and started beating up on him early. Katou eventually gets side conrol and beats up Oshiro until the ref stopped it. The winner was Jin Katou by Technical Knockout in the 1st round. #2 Zvonomir Asanovic(28-2)[-310] vs. #7 Mal Phe Roby(16-4)[+240] Early in the fight, the great stand up of these two fighters cancelled as they often clinched after their exchanges. Asanovic finally finds his range and dropped Roby with a left, Asanovic swarmed and got this fight stopped. In the interviews, Roby said the left broke his jaw. The winner was Zvonomir Asanovic by Technical Knockout in the 1st round. #1 Tadamasa Yamada(22-1)[-240] vs. #8 Sho Kitabatke(14-0)[+190] Kitabatake not wanting to stand with Yamada immeadiately got a takedown on him. Yamada is getting schooled on the ground like we've never seen and he eventually gave up his back. Yamada gave up an RNC and taps. The 2 #1's are gone in the Grand Prix so far and they've been eliminated in shocking fashion. The winner was Sho Kitabatake by Rear Naked Choke in the 1st round. Cahill seperated but the referee stopped the fight to check the cut, unfortunately it was too deep and the fight was stopped. The winner was Yeijiro Yamamoto by Doctor Stoppage in the 1st round. Pai Cheng(4-0)[+160] vs. Dave Lennon(14-5)[-210] Cheng immediately shoots and gets a takedown. After transitioning, Cheng got Lennon's back and pounded him until the fight was stopped. The winner was Pai Cheng by Technical Knockout in the 1st round. Main Card: #4 Syed Tan(14-2-1)[-170] vs. #5 Chew Chua(18-4)[+130] Chua spent the 3 rounds chasing Tan literally chasing him as Tan did nothing. The 1st round was Chua leg kicks and chasing shots. Round 2 Chua connected but couldn't follow up and in the 3rd was the same as the first. Chua running around the ring chasing Tan got him the nod in the victory. The winner is Chew Chua by Unanimous Decision. #3 Xie Ming(21-4)[+180] vs. #6 Fukusaburu Hirano(11-0-1)[-230] For the first 9 minutes of this fight, Hirano was beating Ming to the punch, looking faster and landing stronger. Hirano was landing kicks and punches, Ming was living up to his +180 betting line. Then Ming got a hold of Hirano and made him pay, he started landing punches and knees and eventually connected with knee that sent Hirano to the ground out cold. The winner was Xie Ming by Knockout in the 1st round. #7 Ikku Funaki(15-4)[-250] vs. #15 Kafu Bunya(10-0)[+190] Bunya was fighting smart in the 1st round and doing the same thing he did against da Guia which was counter every strike and make Funaki pay for throwing. The 2nd round was the same as well as the 3rd round. Bunya is looking like a champion in his fights by just picking his shots really good, timing very well. As good as his strategy was, this fight was one of the most boring things I've ever seen. It was so uneventful and onesided, Bunya got the victory but needs to learn to finish his fights. The winner was Kafu Bunya by Unanimous Decision. #1 Ichisake Miyagi(22-3)[-460] vs. #9 Simon Vine(20-6)[+260] Miyagi knew his strength in this fight and immeadiately got the takedown. From there, it was a 4 minute beating that was eventually stopped, Miyagi was on his A-Game. The winner was Ichisake Miyagi by Technical Knockout in the 1st round. #4 Mason Archer(16-3)[-150] vs. #5 Ari Peltonen(24-7)[+110] All I have to say is....what a comeback. The first round was a one sided beating from Mason Archer, he sprawled 3 takedowns, landed a huge soccer kick and dominated on the feet. The 2nd round is where Archer got tired, he was landing but Peltonen was starting to find his range by the time the round ended. Then we have crazy 3rd round, Archer landed a knockdown on Peltonen, he landed some good strikes on the ground but Archer eventually stood up. Peltonen then timed a strike perfectly that sent Archer to the floor outcold. The winner was Ari Peltonen by Knockout in the 3rd round. #3 Armen Sarkisian(23-2)[-260] vs. #12 Gerson Mauricio(9-0)[+200] Sarkisian started this fight with a big takedown, where he'll win this fight. Mauricio tries to fight him but he gives up his back after struggling. Sarkisian got the hooks and choked him out with a RNC. The winner was Armen Sarkisian by Rear Naked Choke in the 1st round. #2 Kunimichi Kikuchi(26-3)[-350] vs. #10 Khru Duangjan(12-1)[+270] Kikuchi got the takedown and finished this fight very quickly. He got into side control and pounded away with shots until the fight was stopped. The winner was Kunimichi Kikuchi by Technical Knockout in the 3rd round. #1 Hassan Fezzik(26-0)[-740] vs. #9 Christopher Sharp(35-12)[+590] Christopher Sharp knew he needed to put the pressure on Fezzik and did just that with a huge takedown. Unfortunately he fought right into Fezzik's game, his guard and Sharp got caught with a triangle and had to tap. The winner was Hassan Fezzik by Traingle Choke in the 1st round. Nagai was doing good early in this fight, keeping away from the power of Claremont with good leg kicks. Claremont started finding his range and landing from the pocket, then he landed a huge right after a Nagai kick. Claremont swarmed and overwhelmed Nagai until the ref stopped the fight. The winner was Brian Claremont by TKO in the 1st round. Chuck Dooley(4-0)[-260] vs. Kanezane Fujii(2-0)[+200] After a couple minutes of grappling, Dooley got the upper hand and got this fight to the ground. Dooley gets eventually stood up and after a couple of more minutes of grappling, Dooley gets Fujii under sidecontrol. Dooley started landing big power shots and Fujii covered up for dear life before the ref stopped it. The winner was Chuck Dooley by TKO in the 1st round. Go Yamamoto(26-10)[-180] vs. Snorri Gunnarson(21-5-1NC)[+140] Most of the 1st round was Yamamoto trying to time shots on the much faster Gunnarson who was waiting for an oppritunity to shoot. With 20 seconds, Yamamoto got takendown and ended the round in guard. Yamamoto started landing big leg kicks on Gunnarson until Gunnarson got a good takedown. Gunnarson got the back like a master and slipped Yamamoto in to an RNC, Yamamoto had to tap. The winner was Snorri Gunnarson by Rear Naked Choke in the 2nd round. Jonathan Huang(4-0)[+220] vs. Carlos da Guia(15-1)[-280] This fight came down to down states of mind, when will da Guia land the strike or when will Huang get it to the ground. Huang looked better tonight, and after struggling with shoot takedowns and eating stikes from da Guia. Huang then got da Guia against the ropes in a clinch and tripped him down. Huang tried a couple of submissions from side control and da Guia almost got a guillotine but Huang eventually got the back and locked in a RNC that could make a tiger pass out, da Guia tapped. Hojo landed so many strikes and kicks that it was embarrasing for Farag who only got one takedown out of fifteen. Hojo landed kicks and strikes on the defensless Farag for 3 full rounds and got a dominant Unanimous Decision. The winner was Motoki Hojo by Unanimous Decision. Jerry Bogdonovich(7-0)[-220] vs. Mal Phe Roby(16-5)[+170] The first round of this fight was fireworks and some surprises. Bogdonovich and Roby kept getting into wild exchanges until Bogdonovich landed a right that dropped Roby and Bogdonovich almost finished the fight but he actually grappled with Roby for a while, showing an improved top game. They were stood up and Bogdonovich ended the round outstriking Roby. Bogdonovich starts the round landing big bombs that dropped Roby, but Roby scrambled and got guard on Bogdonovich. Then Bogdonovich scrambled multiple times, showing good grappling from his back. In the 3rd, Bogdonovich just looked better as he teed off on a tired Roby and his striking got him the unanimous decision. The winner was Jerry Bogdonovich by Unanimous Decision. Main Card: #10 Korekiyo Anzai(8-0)[-430] vs. #14 Fujimaro Hidaka(6-1)[+340] Korekiyo Anzai showed grappling speaks louder than striking with a dominant ground performance. Anzai got the takedown then schooled Hidaka and got his back fairly quickly and then locked in an RNC. The winner was Korekiyo Anzai by Rear Naked Choke in the 1st round. #12 Yagi Jokichi(6-0)[-140] vs. #16 Manoel Cabral(5-0)[-160] I knew this fight would be trouble for Jokichi as Cabral puts on a relentless pace and would've pushed him to the limit. Cabral pushed the pace and got a hold of Jokichi then we saw him do something uncharacteristic, he pulls guard. We had never seen Cabral intentionally pull guard, nor seen him off his back and Cabral is masterful. Cabral grabbed a guillotine just to sweep into side control, then he uses that to get Jokichi's back. From there guess what, RNC for the victory, Cabral has pulled off the true cinderella story. The winner was Manoel Cabral by Rear Naked Choke in the 1st round. #2 Zvonomir Asanovic(29-2)[-170] vs. #3 Jin Katou(19-0)[+130] Zvonomir Asanovic showed a huge improvement in his takedown defence tonight, Katou had literally no answer. Katou shot 6 times and was successful with 0 takedowns. Asanovic was making Katou look silly out there and finished the fight with a huge soccer kick after Katou's last failed takedown attempt, Katou was out like a light. The winner was Zvonomir Asanovic by Knockout in the 1st round. #4 Heiji Endo(14-1)[-130] vs. #8 Sho Kitabatake(15-0)[-170] Endo did something surprising in this fight, he didn't shoot for a takedown, which turned out to be his down fall. Kitabatake showed his Olympic experience and took down Endo with ease, then proceeded to fly around to Endo's back, which was where the fight ended. Endo gave up the RNC after defending an armbar, and he had to tap. The winner was Sho Kitabatake by Rear Naked Choke in the 1st round. Carpenter got the takedown and controlled the rest of the first round with dominant ground and pound and submission attempts. Tan looked tired in the 2nd after all the grappling and got taken down early in that round, which was the beginning of the end. Tan tried to fight but Carpenter eventually got through that guard and tapped Tan with an Arm Triangle. The winner was Jim Carpenter by Arm Triangle in the 2nd round. Fumiaki Hayashi(17-5)[-510] vs. Brian Claremont(5-1)[+400] Brian showing he is the future of the ALPHA-1 lightweight division with this dominant performance put on by him tonight. These two were trading early, getting into some wild exchanges and even some clinch work. It was about 7 minutes into the fight before Claremont landed a huge right that sent Hayashi to the canvas, Hayashi was lucky he got up because Claremonts few seconds of ground and pound was vicious. They stood for the rest of the round but Hayashi was looking punch drunk during the imbetween rest. Hayashi gave it his all and even was landing some good low kicks and a big shot but Claremonts power was superior and he dropped Hayashi again. This time it was for good as the referee stopped the fight, but to many it looked early and fans booed at the stoppage but Hayashi was being saved from more destruction. The winner was Brian Claremont by TKO in the 2nd round. Tadamasa Yamada(22-2)[-240] vs. Bambang Sriyanto(23-7-2)[+190] When someone says one punch knockout, the perfect example is this fight right here. After about 3 minutes of feeling out, Sriyanto lands a right out of nowhere, Yamada fell out of the ropes with his mouthguard on the mat. Sriyanto celebrates like his kid was just born as Yamada stares at the lights. The winner was Bambang Sriyanto by Knockout in the 1st round. Palmer Lette(19-6-2-2NC)[+310] vs. Gladstone Lopes(15-0-1)[-400] Lopes showed us that he can fight with the very best in this one sided domination to close off a fantastic card. Lopes was striking at will and defended 5 takedowns in about 7 minutes and on the 5th takedown, he rolled to get Lette's back which turned out to be his smartest move. Lette looked hopeless off his back and just took the following beating until the fight was stopped, Lopes is a contender. The winner was Gladstone Lopes by TKO in the 1st round.
