WCW 1994: The Battle Lines Have Been Drawn

Yes this is a re-hash of my WCW 1994 diary which was started last month. I recently deleted it [dont ask why, my brain works in mysterious ways] because I was gonna start a new one using the WWF 1991 Rising Storms mod. Which I will do at some point, should I find the time. Luckily, I had everything here saved in a Notepad file... and I was all but a Whopping 1 show in, so we should be caught up to speed rather quickly. Furthermore, I'm in Week 3 as we speak in the in-game file and things seem to be flowing rather nicely. Also, to my 2 loving and adoring fans who made predictions for both my first show, and my Harry Houdini-like second one... yes they will still count.

So without further ado: Lets start a-new and try to keep this train rollin. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read. :)

I dont really have a fancy backstory. As most of you may know, WCW went through leaders/writers/bookers like it was going out of style throughout their illustrious history. They also went through talent much in the same manner, specifically because they never really knew when it was time to weed the old guard out of existance, and move forth with the new.

"I'm here to tell my story."

** THIS DIARY IS THE COUNTER-PART IN THE SAME IN-GAME SAVE MODE AS MY BROTHERS WWF 1994: GROWING PAINS [Link under-lined ahead] http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=523629 DIARY. HE IS OBVIOUSLY PLAYING AS THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION. **

The time frame is July 1st 1994. A strange time in the world of wrestling, there's no doubt. For instance: Hulk Hogan has come to terms with Eric Bischoff and company, signing with World Championship Wrestling and making his on-camera debut just last month (though he has yet to participate in an active match). "Macho Man" Randy Savage however, is still up north with the World Wrestling Federation. Along with the likes of Bret "The Hitman" Hart, The Undertaker, "The HeartBreak Kid" Shawn Michaels, "Big Daddy Cool" Diesel.... and yes, even "The Total Package" (or 'Captain America' or whatever they decided to call him by now) Lex Luger to name a few. WCW's roster contains a boatload of talent as well, spawning of course from the likes of "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, Sting and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat.

However what makes this company strikingly bizarro right around this time period is that Triple H (Jean-Paul Levesque), "Stone Cold" Steve Austin ('Stunning' Steve Austin) and Cactus Jack (Mick Foley) are all under contract in Atlanta.

Not to mention, Extreme Championship Wrestling is red hot and on the brink of a possible explosion as well.... with their current cult following, and revolutionary hardcore-esque style.

He goes on to claim that Ted Turner has given him 'carte blanche' and gloats about how he's about to start shaking things up around here...... Right Now. He goes on to run down a few key matches on the card tonight, all of which are Title Matches! They are as follows:</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35680" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:10px;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW Television Championship:</span></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:10px;"> Alex Wright Vs. "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair ©</span></p></div><p></p><p> </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> He then goes onto state that the Steamboat/Flair issue has been going on for far too long and that if Steamboat fails to win the title tonight, he'll never ever get another shot as long as Flair is champion!! The crowd gives a mixed reaction, as he goes on to address the 'elephant in the room' that everybody's talking about.... And he would like to call out Hulk Hogan!</p><p> </p><p> C</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - The music hits, and <strong>"The Immortal" Hulk Hogan</strong> makes his grand entrance through the curtain as the crowd explodes. The two banter back and forth a little bit, as Hogan congratulates him on his new position. Jesse thanks Hogan for his kind words, but preceeds to state loud and clear that whatever he may have accomplished "elsewhere" holds absolutely no merit here. Much like everybody else he must start at the bottom of the food chain and work his way up.</p><p> </p><p> <em>The performance of Hulk Hogan was good.</em></p><p> </p><p> B-</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - Hogan goes onto cut a short promo telling Ventura he has no problem working his way up the ladder, but if Jesse so much as stands in his way...... BOOM! Hogan's been attacked from behind by a large man wearing all black with a Billy Club! Ventura laughs as Hogan hits the mat and this man begins hammering away with the stick on his rib-cage. Before long, he uses it as a choking device on The Hulkster and absolutely refuses to let go. Jesse turns his back and begins posing for the auidence before several road agents and officials come running down to break it up. Schiavone mentions that he's being told that this man goes by the name of <strong>Big Bubba Rogers</strong>. Hogan however, seems to be in a pretty bad state, as he needs to be physically escorted backstage.</p><p> </p><p> <em>Big Bubba Rogers did not look good in this segment.</em></p><p><em> Hulk Hogan looked excellent out there.</em></p><p> </p><p> C-</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - We cut to a short video, where we see brand new WCW star <strong>Jean-Paul Levesque</strong> demonstrating his intelligence a bit, as he finishes off War And Peace.</p><p> </p><p> D</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - <strong><span style="color:#000080;">Jean-Paul Levesque</span></strong> defeated <strong><span style="color:#0000FF;">Terry Taylor</span></strong> in 6:20 by pinfall, with some kind of double under-hook facebuster.</p><p> </p><p> <em>Jean-Paul Levesque and Terry Taylor didnt seem to click, and it made for an awkward bout.</em></p><p> </p><p> D-</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - A highlight video airs, focussing on <strong>Vader</strong>'s path of destruction thus far throughout his WCW stint.</p><p> </p><p> B-</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - We cut to a pre-recorded backstage promo, with <strong>Vader</strong> and <strong>Harley Race</strong>. Race warns Ventura that if he continues the common trend of ignoring Vader around here.... then he will be left with NO CHOICE but to unleash "The Mastadon" like never before.</p><p> </p><p> B</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - <strong><span style="color:#0000FF;">Sting</span></strong> defeated <strong><span style="color:#000080;">The Gambler</span></strong> in 2:51 by submission with The Scorpion Deathlock.</p><p> </p><p> <em>Sting looked good.</em></p><p> </p><p> C-</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - We cut to another backstage promo, where <strong>Harlem Heat</strong> are standing behind.... and on each side of.... <strong>Teddy Long</strong>?? Long introduces us to his brand new clients and states that his first order of business was to cut a deal with Commissioner Ventura like the true 'Hustla' that he is, which resulted in Harlem Heat receiving a shot at the World Tag Team Titles right here tonight! He then says that with him by their side they could do no wrong, and later tonight they make history by celebrating their very first WCW Tag Title reign.</p><p> </p><p> C-</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - <strong><span style="color:#000080;">Lord Steven Regal</span></strong> defeated <strong><span style="color:#0000FF;">Alex Wright</span></strong> in 7:46 by submission with The Regal Stretch. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><em><strong><span style="color:#808000;">Lord Steven Regal makes Defense Number 1 of his WCW Television title.</span></strong></em></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p> C</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - Following the match, <strong>Lord Steven Regal</strong> continues the assault on <strong>Alex Wright</strong>. He begins choking away and before long the referee on hand tries to pull him off. Regal then shoves the ref down to the mat with one back arm swipe! But before long, <strong>Johnny B. Badd</strong> comes storming down to ringside. Regal however sees him coming quick.... and retreats with Sir William immediately!</p><p> </p><p> C-</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - <strong>'Mean' Gene Okerlund</strong> conducts an in-ring interview with <strong>"The Nature Boy" Ric Flair</strong>. Flair goes on his usual obnoxious tirade and cuts a promo on how FINALLY after all these years, he has the opportunity to get Rick Steamboat completely off his back once and for all... right here in Denver Colorado!! He also hints at some kind of 'trick' he has up his sleeve in the near future.</p><p> </p><p> <em>Gene Okerlund was very underwhelming.</em></p><p> </p><p> B-</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - <strong><span style="color:#000080;">Harlem Heat</span></strong> defeated <strong><span style="color:#0000FF;">Cactus Jack and Kevin Sullivan</span></strong> in 12:34 when Booker T defeated Cactus Jack by pinfall, following The Heat Seeker. During the match we also had Kevin Sullivan WALK OUT on Cactus Jack, leaving him to go one-on-two with Booker T and Stevie Ray.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><em><strong><span style="color:#808000;">Harlem Heat WIN the WCW World Tag Team Championship titles.</span></strong></em></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p> <em>Teddy Long did some good work at ringside.</em></p><p><em> Booker T and Stevie Ray have great chemistry when teaming together.</em></p><p> </p><p> C</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - Following the match, <strong>Harlem Heat</strong> and <strong>Teddy Long</strong> celebrate the big title win, as <strong>Cactus Jack</strong> goes limping to the back after putting up a hell of a fight.... presumably in pursuit of <strong>Kevin Sullivan</strong>.</p><p> </p><p> C-</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - Graphic Match Announcement: <strong>Diamond Dallas Page</strong> Vs. <strong>Flyin' Brian Pillman</strong> this week on WCW Main Event. Tony Schiavone lets us know that DDP and Pillman had these words.</p><p> </p><p> C-</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - <strong>Diamond Dallas Page</strong> cuts a pre-recorded promo alongside <strong>The Diamond Doll</strong>, claiming to be both the future.... and the 'Diamond'... of World Championship Wrestling. He also goes on to say that Brian Pillman has done virtually nothing here in his five plus years under contract, and vows to put him outta commission once and for all.</p><p> </p><p> C</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - <strong>Flyin' Brian Pillman</strong> cuts a pre-recorded promo in which he seems just a tad bit off-kilter. He speaks on how he's tired of playing by everyone else's set of rules and how the game is in the midst of some kind of radical change. He closes with a sadistic look of sorts and simply says, "YOU did this to me!" but never not once mentions his opponent, Dallas Page.</p><p> </p><p> C-</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - <strong><span style="color:#0000FF;">"The Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko</span></strong> defeated <strong><span style="color:#000080;">Ron Simmons</span></strong> in 9:42 by pinfall with a quick roll up, after a hard-hitting affair. Simmons argues with the ref afterwards, trying to plead his case that he kicked out at two. He seems visibally upset over the loss.</p><p> </p><p> C+</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - Recap Video: <strong>Harlem Heat</strong> win the WCW World Tag Team titles following Kevin Sullivan's betrayal of his partner. They then celebrate their first ever championship victory with their brand new manager <strong>Teddy Long</strong> in the ring.</p><p> </p><p> D+</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - We cut backstage, where <strong>Eric Bischoff</strong> conducts a brief interview with <strong>Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat</strong>, who promises not to let his fans downtonight. He then says he has the ut-most respect for 'The Nature Boy' as an in-ring competitor. May the best man win.</p><p> </p><p> D</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - <strong><span style="color:#000080;">"The Nature Boy" Ric Flair</span></strong> defeated <strong><span style="color:#0000FF;">Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat</span></strong> in 19:17 by pinfall, following outside interference from <strong><span style="color:#800080;">"Stunning" Steve Austin</span></strong>. Whilst Steamboat had the match clearly in hand, during a reverse irish whip.... Ric Flar ran directly into the referee who got caught (and crushed) in the corner. As Steamboat was seemingly getting ready to climb the top rope and go for his Diving Cross Body finisher, Austin came flying down the aisle and waffled him right in the mouth with the United States title! He the preceeded to head outside and over to a female fan in the front row. He grabbed some kind of plastic-cup drink right outta her hand, and threw it into the referee's face which of course, brought him back to his senses. Upon snapping out of it... Nick Patrick preceeded to make a slow - but sure three count. Austin had draped Flair's had over Steamboat's torso before sliding outside.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><em><strong><span style="color:#808000;">Ric Flair makes Defense Number 1 of his WCW World Heavyweight Championship title. </span></strong></em></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p> <em>Ricky Steamboat and Ric Flair have pretty good chemistry, and it showed in their performances.</em></p><p> </p><p> B</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> - Once the official announcement is made by Gary Michael Cappetta, <strong>Steve Austin</strong> charges back into the ring instantly and dives onto <strong>Ricky Steamboat</strong> (whos still down) once more and starts hammering away on his already now bloodied skull with closed fist after closed fist! <strong>Ric Flair</strong> also throws the boots to him to add a little extra insult to injust... that is... until <strong>Sting</strong> comes sprinting down to ringside and cleans house! He unloads with some clenched fists of his own onto 'Stunning' Steve!! He then quickly knocks Austin over the top rope with a running clothesline! Chops away at Flair! Shortly there-after, he sends him for the ride into the corner... STINGER SPLASH. As Ric wobbles out toward the center of the ring, Sting grabs him by the hair and trunks, runs and tosses him over the top alongside Austin! He howls at the crowd and stares down his two adversarys, who back up the ramp smirking and talking trash. Finally, he signals for medical attention from the back for his fallen friend as the show goes off the air.</p><p> </p><p> B</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Final Rating:</span> B- [This show lost us popularity in 1 region.]</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Final Thoughts:</span> <em>Thought it was a pretty good first show overall. I was on the fence about giving quick dark-match results but ultimately decided NOT to break kayfabe at all for this diary. I'm mainly using that time just to test future feuds/matches out and to give new workers a little time on a 'televised' stage. I figure it'll keep for some cool surprises too. Oh, and I was a little disappointed in Steamboat's backstage interview with Bischoff. Know he wasnt the greatest promo cutter in his day, but a D rating seems a little low, with all things considered here. Main Event preview should be up shortly. Thanks all for reading.</em></p>

WCW Saturday Night

July 1994 - Week Two

http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o743/MrPerfect930/bth_WCW_Saturday_Night_zps5da4235c.jpg

Five Seasons Center - Cedar Rapids, Iowa

9,871 in Attendance - Pre-Taped on Thursday

Broadcast Team: Tony Schiavone & Bobby "The Brain" Heenan

- The WCW Saturday Night intro video kicks off the show. We immediately cut to a pre-taped clip of brand new WCW Commissioner, Jesse "The Body" Ventura who is seen sitting at his desk. He greets everyone kindly and follows up by informing us that due to the events that occured at the conclusion of last weeks broadcast, we're gonna have ourselves a blockbuster main event right here tonight! He hypes up the heels pretty well, noting that we will, for the first time ever see the WCW United States Heavyweight Champion teaming up with the WCW World Heavyweight Champion....

Tag Team Grudge Match:

"Stunning" Steve Austin & "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair Vs. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat & Sting

He then simply thanks everyone, and tells them to enjoy the rest of the broadcast.

B-

- Johnny B. Badd defeated "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton in 10:04 via pinfall with a Shooting Star Press in our opening contest.

C

- The camera now pans away into some elegant looking house, where Jean-Paul Levesque is shown playing Chess, and calling "Checkmate" against an alleged Grand Master. There's still a significant amount of Levesque's white pieces left, as opposed to only three of his opponents black ones.... ensuing he's won pretty handily.

B-

- Lord Steven Regal defeated Brad Armstrong in 9:04 by submission with The Regal Stretch. Just prior however, Sir William jumped up on the apron, diverging the referees attention and allowing Regal to waffle Armstrong with a pair of brass-knuckles to ensure the victory. During the match, we also had Johnny B. Badd (who hung around after his match) on commentary to keep an eye on Regal.

Lord Steven Regal makes Defense Number 2 of his WCW World Television Championship title.

C

- Lord Steven Regal, as-per-usual, goes for the cheap post-match assault. However, before he can even get one clean shot in, Johnny B. Badd storms into the ring from the announcers table and quickly runs him off! Badd calls for a mic, and tells Regal he's nothing but a coward. Furthermore, he reminds him that there's a pretty big pay-per-view right around the corner called The Bash At The Beach. (crowd pops hard, as Regal's eyes open wider) He then goes on to state that he's already gotten the clearing from the board of directors, so in just two short weeks he'll be seeing him at the dance! He then pauses for a short moment, before also assuring Regal that his title WILL BE up for grabs.

C

- WCW Main Event Recap Video: Colonel Robert Parker introduces us to Southern Justice. They're seen clearly dominating in their debut match.

Dennis Knight was very underwhelming.

Meng came across well.

D

- "The Mastadon" Vader defeated Scotty Richardson in 3:45 by pinfall, following The Vader Bomb. During this match, Vader completely decimated his opponent. From opening bell to finish, Richardson got absolutely zero offense in.

Vader and Scotty Richardson have pretty good chemistry, and it showed in their performances.

Vader looked good out there.

C+

- WCW Main Event Recap Video: Diamond Dallas Page gets himself intentionally DQ'ed by low-blowing Brian Pillman, while Pillman had matters seemingly in hand.

C-

- We cut backstage, where Eric Bischoff is standing by with Flyin' Brian Pillman. Before he can even get a single question out, Pillman takes the mic and shoves him off camera. After about a 30-second pause, Pillman simply whispers.... "Yoooouuu...... did this.... tooo mmeeeee...." before dropping the mic, and laughing calmly... yet demonically into the camera as it fades out.

D

- 'Mean' Gene Okerlund is standing by in the ring and introduces us to his guests at this time.... The Sullivans! Following their entrance (which consists of nothing more than simply walking to the ring I might add), he asks Kevin Sullivan the burning question thats been on everybodys mind all week: why on earth would he sacrifice the WCW World Tag Team Titles and walk out on his partner in the fashion which he did? From there, Kevin goes on to state that he merely got sick and tired of carrying Cactus's ass around. And that how at first he thought he saw some potential in the supposed 'Crazed Maniac Hailing From Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico' but boy was he ever so wrong. He says that underneath it all.... Cactus Jack FEARS the dark side.

D+

- Just then, Cactus Jack's music hits as the crowd begins to cheer. Upon entering the ring, he gets face to face with Kevin Sullivan (with Dave Sullivan of course, lurking in the shadows). He goes into a rant about how Kevin has no clue whatsoever as to what the dark side's really like. He states that the being on the 'dark side' consists of three things and three things only. And they are being broken, battered and beaten like he's been his ENTIRE LIFE!! And just when he'd thought he'd finally found a friend in Kevin.... it turns out he too was an enemy all along. So if he thinks he's got what it takes, then why dont he set foot in the ring with the 'Crazed Maniac From Truth Or Consequences' in just 8 days time at The Bash At The Beach?!? Sullivan takes the mic, then pauses for a moment.... before grabbing his brother Dave by the hair and literally dragging him through the ropes and out of the ring. Once the pair hit the floor and start heading towards the back (much to the confusion of everyone), he stops about halfway down the aisle and turns around towards the ring. With his brothers hair in one hand still, and the microphone in the other. He then tells Cactus that if he wants a match come Bash At The Beach, its gonna be a Hardcore Match. No count outs.... no disqualifications.... no rules. And furthermore, its gonna be against BOTH Sullivans. In conclusion, he states that if Cactus fails to find himself a 'friend' .... he may just have bitten off a bit more than he can chew.

C-

- Stars N' Stripes defeated Pretty Wonderful, The Nasty Boys and The State Patrol in 16:06, in a Four Corners Elimination Tag Team Match to become the New Number One Contenders to the WCW World Tag Team Titles. The order of Elimination was as follows: The State Patrol first, when Paul Roma defeated Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker via pinfall following a Diving Elbow Drop from the top rope. Pretty Wonderful second, when Paul Roma then decked the official on hand (another one came out and took over for the remainder of the match) and got his team disqualified. This visibly upset Paul Orndorff and the two began to jabber at one another all the way to the back. And finally The Nasty Boys, who had the match well in hand before Brian Knobbs let his guard down for a split second which allowed Marcus Bagwell to score the 1-2-3 with a quick roll up.

Paul Roma was off his game.

Marcus Bagewell was off his game.

The Nasty Boys have excellent chemistry when teaming together.

C

- The Nasty Boys remain in the ring flipping out, as Stars N' Stripes quickly retreat up the aisle, celebrating perhpas their biggest victory of their young careers.

D+

- The announcers quickly speak of the Stars N' Stripes/Harlem Heat match, which we all now will now take place at Bash At The Beach for the WCW World Tag Team Titles.

D+

- Tony Schiavone then proceeds to contact "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan via telephone. Hogan, who's currently in the hospital nursing two broken ribs from last weeks heinous attack, vows once again to climb atop the mountain in World Championship Wrestling.... starting by ridding the wrestling world of that no good piece of garbage, Big Bubba Rogers once and for all. He also promises all the 'Little Hulksters' out there that he will be appearing right there next week on WCW Saturday Night, which will be airing from Tampa Bay, Florida.

Hulk Hogan looked excellent.

Tony Schiavone performed poorly.

C+

- Big Bubba Rogers defeated "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan in 7:30 by pinfall with The Big Bubba Slam. Though Duggan did put up a good fight, he never came close to actually winning this one. Following the match, as Big Bubba Rogers was headed to the back, the camera panned in. He then leaned his face in close and told Hogan to look at his friend now, before arrogantly smirking his way off.

D+

- 'Mean' Gene Okerlund conducts a pre-match backstage interview with "Stunning" Steve Austin and "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Austin speaks first, stating that The Dragon's time is long gone and in just a few short moments, he's gonna find out exactly why "Stunning" Steve walks around with this shiny little piece of tin right here (he slaps the US Title, which he's wearing firmly around his waist) and Ricky Steamboat doesnt! Flair then follows by speaking of the long, storied history between him and The Stinger. He credits Sting for his past success here in World Championship Wrestling, but much like Austin just told Steamboat.... There's a reason why the two of them hold the top two most prestigious titles in the world today. Whoooooooo.

Steve Austin was very poor when trying to improvise dialogue. (yet he INSISTS on going non-scripted in his promos )

B-

- Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and Sting defeated "Stunning" Steve Austin and "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair in 16:29, when Sting defeated Steve Austin via submission with The Scorpion Deathlock. The crowd was really into this one and it came off rather good overall. The end came when the ref lost complete control, as Flair was actually the legal man. Sting however, reversed an irish-whip and sent Flair flying into a corner (in which the top turn-buckle was exposed just moments earlier by Austin), causing him to flip completely over (in classic Flair form) and walk down the apron, only this time in agonizing pain. As he was yelping and clutching his back hard.... Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat came running down and met him with a flying clothesline, sending both men crashing down to the floor! Meanwhile, back in the ring, Steve Austin had attacked Sting from behind. As the referee didnt know which way to turn (showing clear concern for Steamboat and Flair who were both still down and out on the concrete floor. Note that Steamboat also seemed to be favoring his right knee...), Austin had Sting seemingly set up for a piledriver... but just then, Sting grabbed his legs outta nowhere! 'Stunning' Steve managed to fight well and hard, but Sting eventually mustered up the strength to turn him over completely and apply The Scorpion Deathlock right in the dead center of the ring. After about 45 seconds or so of screaming in pain, Austin was left with no choice but to surrender.

B-

- Just then, Ricky "The Dragon Steamboat had managed to hop up onto the apron and into the ring to join Sting, in aligning hands in victory. The two stood tall as the show came to a close.

B-

Final Rating: B- [Lt. James Earl Jones was slightly over-used. This show lost us popularity in 11 regions.]

Final Thoughts: Not too sure why I lost popularity in so many regions here cause the show was calibrated quite well time-wise. Other than that, not too much to say. I really feel like things are flowing quite nicely here. Main Event preview should be out shortly.

The Sullivans (Kevin Sullivan and Dave Sullivan) Vs. Bobby Walker & Pez Whatley

"Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff Vs. Chris Jericho

- Perhaps due to some miscommunication between Orndorff and Roma?

"DDP" Diamond Dallas Page Vs. Terry Taylor

Jean-Paul Levesque Vs. Cactus Jack

- Losing his debut? Unlikely. Probably some kind of cheap win though involving the Sullivans.

His debut match actually took place last week on WCW Saturday Night, when he defeated Terry "The Red Rooster" Taylor with some kind of double under-hook facebuster like maneuver. :D

C-

- The Sullivans [Kevin Sullivan & Dave Sullivan] defeated Pez Whatley and Bobby Walker in 4:43, when Kevin Sullivan defeated Bobby Walker by pinfall following a clenched fist to the throat.

Dave Sullivan was off his game tonight.

Pez Whatley and Bobby Walker have absolutely zero chemistry as a team.

E

- WCW Saturday Night Recap Video: Stars N' Stripes defeat Pretty Wonderful, The Nasty Boys, and The State Patrol to become the Brand New number one contenders to the WCW World Tag Team Titles. Following the match, theyre seen celebrating with the fans.

D

- We cut to a pre-taped promo where Harlem Heat are seen standing on each side of their manager, Teddy Long with their newly-won titles hoisted over their shoulders. Teddy simply warns Stars N' Stripes that all those chump-change teams they had to deal with this past week on WCW Saturday Night couldn't lace his two men's jockstraps! And come in just one weeks time at The Bash ON The Beach, theyre gonna catch 'dey a$$es a Whoopin' from one side of Orlando.... straight to the other! Following a short pause, Booker T then follows up by asking if they can dig that.... suckaaa.

C

- "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff defeated Chris Jericho in 12:52 by pinfall, following a Devastating Jumping Piledriver. It was a seesaw match for the most part, and quite the impressive outing for new-comer Chris Jericho. He really put up a valiant effort here, and even scored quite a few near-falls. One especially when "Pretty" Paul Roma (who was in the corner of his partner for this one) nearly cost Orndorff the match on a botched interference miscue. When Jericho went for the quick cover right then.... literally everyone in the building thought the official counted three. Unfortunatley for Chris though, this only infuriated his opponent even more. Following a long-standing, bone-crunching suplex... this is when Paul finally hit a jumping piledriver and ended this one decisively.

Paul Orndorff and Chris Jericho dont click at all.

D

- Following the match, Paul Orndorff seems to be quite hot-headed and upset with his partner for almost blowing this one for him. After a few moments however, Paul Roma seems to calm him down some.... but the two still make their way up the aisle and through the curtains visibly upset with one another. Furthermore, Chris Jericho fights his way back to his feet back inside the ring, as the audience applauds his efforts. He's favoring his head rather well, in an effort to sell Orndorff's piledriver.

C-

- WCW Saturday Night Recap Video: The announcers direct us to a clip in which went down just last night on WCW Saturday Night, but was not actually shown on-air. 'Mean' Gene Okerlund is seen tracking down Flyin' Brian Pillman, as he was leaving the arena, looking to get an exclusive interview for the WCW Hotline. Pillman throws his bag into his rental car, when he turns to Gene and looks at him faintly. Mean Gene proceeds to ask him who exactly he was referring to when he stated that 'You' did this to me in his promo from earlier tonight... was it Diamond Dallas Page?? Due to his actions just last week? Brian responds by simply stating (in a calm, low-mannered voice) that he'd like to issue a challenge for Bash At The Beach. He challenges DDP to a FIGHT. Not a standard wrestling match... but a non-sanctioned, anything goes Fight. He then gets in his rental and speeds off after breifly smirking, leaving Okerlund a bit perturbed, being that he never actually clarified who 'You' is.

C-

- Diamond Dallas Page defeated Terry Taylor in 3:59 via pinfall, following The Diamond Cutter.

D

- Following his most-impressive win over a well-seasoned veteran, Diamond Dallas Page calls for a mic. He outright REFUSES Brian Pillman's challenge to a non-sanctioned, all-out street fight. He then looks over at The Diamond Doll, who's standing next to him and practically hanging off his left arm, and tells her that never in a million years would he jeopardize this pretty face. Finally he slams the mic down, plants one right on his woman's mouth, and walks off in style.

B-

- Jean-Paul Levesque is shown once again shown sitting backstage, smiling as he reads the Financial Times. Behind him, a series of graphs show that his stock investments are increasing rapidly. He then proceeds to cut a short promo on Cactus Jack, telling him that tonight he shows the world that brains will always out-weight brawn.

D+

- Cactus Jack defeated Jean-Paul Levesque in 7:47 via disqualification, due to a blatant outside interference by The Sullivans. After what seemed to be a solid effort from opening bell by these two young bucks, Kevin and Dave came storming down outta nowhere and attacked Cactus... leaving the ref with no choice but to cut this one short.

C

- However, cutting this one short didnt stop Jean-Paul Levesque or The Sullivans for one split second. They contiued hammering away at Cactus Jack, as the bell continued to ring repeatedly. Before long though, Alex Wright of all people came running down to ringside! Kevin Sullivan sees it coming quick, grabs brother Dave and flees the scene. Levesque on the other hand couldnt be so lucky. Alex grabs him and begins firing away, backing him into the ropes and sending him for an irish-whip... BIG Back Body Drop!! Levesque seems to be extremely hurt, and quickly retreats underneath the bottom rope. The show comes to a close with Alex Wright calling all three men back into the ring for more, and Jean-Paul Levesque backing up the ramp, loudly emphasizing the words "You're A Dead Man, Alex!!".... indicating that he'll be out for immediate revenge, sometime in the very near future.

Dave Sullivan underperformed.

D

Final Rating: C [None.]

Final Thoughts: I know theyre both fairly new to the game at this stage, but I kinda expected more out of Foley and Hunter in the main event. Perhaps the DQ ending hurt the match a bit more than it should have though. Also, a tad bit disppointed in Brian Pillman's segment ratings overall thus far.... as he's definitely one of the guys I have big plans for down the stretch. Furthermore, next sunday is Bash At The Beach already. :D

July 1994

Monday, Week Three

- Good evening, folks. It is being reported from quite a few well-inclined sources that World Championship Wrestling executives are currently discussing the possibility of airing a Brand New Televised Broadcast of sorts, in which would not only air live (with a seven-second delay) on a weekly basis, but could also be looking to do so on Monday Nights, of all nights. This would ultimately mean that for whatever reasons they may be, WCW just may be going this route to declare all-out war on the World Wrestling Federation, as this would indicate a serious collision week-to-week in the primetime ratings war with the WWF's own; Monday Night Raw! And with contract negotiations becoming available from companies to television networks in just two short weeks, its quite possible WCW could have this project up and running as early as this coming Fall. More details on this breaking story as they become available.

- WCW executives seem to be pretty high on quite a few people as of late, with new-comer Jean-Paul Levesque being right at the fore-front. Even though its still quite early yet, judging by the vignettes which have been airing week-to-week and the way in-which he's being booked.... it seems to me, they have given him the ball already. Its now his job to take it, and run with it.

- Several contracts are expiring at the end of this month. The short-list of names are as follows; Bunkhouse Buck, WCW Announcer Chris Cruise, Long-Time Ring Veteran, Terry Taylor, Cactus Jack and finally, that of Former WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Ron Simmons. No word as of yet on who will actually be offered a new deal and/or who wont, but I can tell you this. My sources have confirmed that the powers that be have already went into and negotiated with one of the priorly mentioned superstars. Furthermore, my sources tell me that WCW were quick to pull out immediately... due to this man demanding an astronomical amount of money, for what they presume he actually brings to the table. The question is who? And why?? Has another promotion perhaps offered him a much better deal than he's receiving from us currently? Or is this mans ego simply just far too big for his own good.

- Upon seeing the debut of the highly-charismatic Chris Jericho just last night on WCW Main Event, my sources have informed me that World Championship Wrestling is indeed looking to bring in a bundle of young talent as the next few weeks go by. This would indeed make perfect sense, especially if they're looking to add another weekly televised show to their schedule. On a sidenote; the front office seemed very pleased with the Paul Orndorff / Chris Jericho clash last night as well, despite the two of them not portraying the best of chemistry.

- Also, there's heavy word on the street that WCW have officially completed the signing of A Top Name In The Industry. No word yet on when this person will appear, or if he/she is actually an active in-ring competitor.

- WCW World Heavyweight Champion, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair hinted at some kind of "Trick" he had up his sleeve, just two short weeks ago on WCW Saturday Night. Many simply assumed he was referring to the small alliance he's seemed to have formed with the WCW United States Champion, "Stunning" Steve Austin, following Austin's assistance in Flair's big title defense against one; Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. 'The Nature Boy' himself however, has told the WCW Hotline exclusively that this was NOT what he was referring to, and that the "Surprise Trick" he speaks of is far bigger and broader than that. Which begs the question, will his forth-coming 'big surprise' involve his new-found ally, 'Stunning' Steve? Are they even really allies... or just allied under the pretense of having a common enemy? One can only speculate at this point. And only time will tell.

- And finally, its official: The Clash Of The Champions pay-per-view in August will be held in Sturgis, South Dakota; home of the World-Famous Sturgis bike rally. There have also been major talks of actually changing the event name all together to something a little more fitting for the occasion.

Thank you for your call! Until next time folks!
