Kyle Rhodes – Jason Azaria

As the dance begins, the crowd start to clap along for the first time. Little by little, the HollyWeird Girls' presentation seems to be becoming not just a token by an enjoyed part of the show.

As the dance comes to an end the cameras go backstage. The giant steel box that is the Living Hell is present, and Karen Killer creeps into shot, sidling up toward it. She produces a pair of long, thin steel probes, and begins to work on the padlock.

After a few moments, a shadow falls over her.

Killer looks up and sees Richie Pangrazzio standing over her, looking down.

“No,” he says quietly.

And Killer... smiles. She rises to her full high, standing upright opposite him, and her smile is genuine and warm.

“You understand,” she purrs.

Her head darts forward and she pecks Pangrazzio on the cheek before he can react.

She almost skips away.

Richie watches her go, his face suddenly pale. It seems that, for the first time, he's counting the cost of his victory.

It seems, on paper, like this will be easy for Liberty – Thatcher's in-ring so rarely he could easily even have ring rust. Still, the Licenced Cougar Hunter pulls out all the stops; he moves fast for his size and he hits hard.

“With enough training, we could be looking at a future champion,” Rhodes says. “Valentine has an eye for talent in the rough,” Azaria agrees.

In the end, though, Liberty catches a big boot, moves in and gets the Liberation Slam.

Takin' Care Of Business hits, and Shane Sneer comes out with it as ever.

“I've got some sad news,” he begins. “Following this past Sunday's Pay-Per-View, where we'd hoped to get real resolution of some lasting issues, we... had difficulty doing that.

“It is my sad duty to inform you fans watching that our World Heavyweight Champion, Sam Strong, was sufficiently injured by Dread that he is expected to remain in hospital for some time. Doctors do not anticipate his return inside two months, perhaps even three.

“Now, Sam Strong is a big, tough, stubborn SOB, so I'd be surprised if it takes three... but I can't let it take two. I'm not allowed.

“As of now, I am vacating the World Heavyweight Championship... and I'm calling for everyone to step up their game and see if they can take it home. We have some former world champions here, and others who've ruled companies elsewhere. Whistler. Charlie Homicide. Mr Lucha. Teddy Flame. And the usual suspects, the ones Jason and Kyle always talk about as future world champions.

“I'll be picking four of you to battle for the title by the end of the month. I want everyone to prove to me they deserve to be there.”

He turns, and nearly walks straight into Dread. The shadow of fear glowers down at him.

Shane Sneer is visibly in fear for his life. After a few moments, though, Dread shrugs and moves off. Sneer sags, relieved, and heads out.

The Maple Leafs acquit themselves well as a team, showing real unity – and getting one of the pops of the night when Grinder lawndarts Slapshot into Giant Redwood – but despite that, the veteran instincts of Redwood and Streets come out on top, with Slapshot getting caught in the Dust-Off while the Giant recovers on the outside.

Streets Run Red defeated the Maple Leafs

Seeing these two in the ring on-on-one for the first time, Kyle Rhodes is the first to spot it. He lets out a short laugh and says “Now we're gonna have some fun.”

He's right, too; there's something about these two – maybe it's the amount of times both men have wrestled similar indy opponents, but they just fit together in the ring, and it definitely helps the atmosphere.

Walker rallies to overcome Steadyfast after a tough few minutes, only for Joel Bryant to appear ringside; while Eugene Williams deals with that, Steadyfast goes for a low blow. Walker, no stranger to dubious tactics, blocks it, and Steadyfast promptly hits the mat clutching his own crotch. Williams checks on HIM – and Bryant hits the One Shot Drop on Walker! Steadyfast tops it off with an elbow drop for the tainted victory.

Paul Steadyfast defeated Monty Walker

A startling contest here; Rhodes and Azaria talk throughout it about the potential World Heavyweight Championship ramifications of this match, and as Mr Lucha repeatedly finds ways to put the shadow of fear in danger of losing the match, they're clearly right to do so; Lucha could quite easily, by the looks of this match, be the second ever HGC World Heavyweight Champion.

Dread ultimately pulls out a surprising stop; rather than trying to bludgeon Lucha senseless, he uses his weight tactically, dropping to his knees to block a victory roll and pin the luchador.

Intercut with clips from their proteges' tag team match this past Sunday, we see pre-taped interviews with Rip Chord and Liberty.

Rip leads off: “Taking a loss is a disappointment, but you've got to be ready for that. Everyone loses, sometimes, over the course of their careers. Even a master tactician can fall if they make a mistake.

“Doug and Eddie will learn from this... and that's going to make them dangerous.”

Liberty: “Richard and Paul have shown real courage here, and their skills are improving. They were a bit thrown by the crowd, I think... but that's fine. They've got to get used to crowds that size to make it here, but there's no way to prepare for that.”

The Shining Force have already proved themselves an entertaining modification to the roster, and they strut their stuff again here... but sad to say (arguably) their opponents aren't that impressed, and the Nation of Filth remains more than nominally in control throughout.

Grunt ultimately nails Dark EAGLE with the Dust Buster, picking up a very confident victory.

Once again a camera finds its way backstage, seeing that steel Living Hell. The camera dwells on it for a long moment, then shifts slightly at the sound of a lighter being flicked; the camera starts moving around the box, hunting for the source of that sound.

Hidden away behind the steel, masked by it, a long-haired, cloaked man, unknown even to Jason Azaria, is lighting an acetylene torch. His face intent, he begins to cut a hold in the side of the box...

A surprise in this contest; Peter Valentine can actually transition hold to hold. Among a limited number of holds, sure, and some of the transitions are clunky, but in the opening minutes of this one the veteran appears determined to prove he can hang with the 'Next Generation' man.

After those few minutes, however, he finds it necessary to resort to other things, and it's only after a thumb to the eye that he's able to deploy the Heart Breaker – which nonetheless DOES get him the victory.

Peter Valentine defeated Brent Hill

Texas Tattoo begins to play before Valentine and Thatcher exit the ring. They halt as Cowboy Ricky Dale makes his way down to the ring, mic already in hand.

“Considering what happened Sunday,” Dale begins, “you and me, we need to talk.” Valentine looks sideways at him for a long moment, then nods to Charlie Thatcher, stepping back. Thatcher moves forward-

A church bell starts to chime, repeatedly. As it tolls, a guitar riff begins, and AC/DC's Hell's Bells is soon playing. All three men in the ring slowly, hesitantly, direct their attention to the entrance ramp...

...which is why they don't see a fourth figure enter the ring, clad in a long trenchcoat, close-cropped head bowed.

He approaches the group and takes the mic from the Cowboy, drawing the attention of the wrestlers.

He lifts his head...

“Oh. My. God,” Rhodes breathes.

“Hello, Sidewinder,” the figure says. “And you two... other... snakes.

“You've had your warnings. Penance or punishment.”

He looks between the three of them.

“Choose.”

The mic hits the mat, there's a shriek of thunder and the arena whites out as if caught in lightning.

And then the figure is gone.

Back from the final commercial and into the main event... and there's nothing pretty about this; it's an all-out brawl.

The Demons have clearly been feeling sidelined... the Vesseys are down their manager, their faction leader. Everyone has something to prove and everyone likes to prove their point by hurting people.

The Demons slowly rally, with the Vesseys getting a chance to show the level of punishment that they can endure and even kick out of.

Eventually the Demons are ready for the Double Demon Drop – and Bryan Vessey shows a level of agility not hitherto seen, knocking Spite out of the ring and landing in a good position to hit Anger with a Vessey Driver, getting the victory.

Vessey Brothers defeated Demons of Rage

If I had been watching HGC in real life, I have a feeling that this would have been the show that would have me leaning forward going "Ok HGC, you officially have my attention."

I particularly like Vengeance's entrance. Very Undertaker.

The Hype takes another hit on his Marlboro and grins. “So... that brings us up to, what, June?

“June had more TV. More TV meant that the undercard got a lot more attention. And considering how pissy the bookers were getting, that led to a lot more trouble.

“I think it was Lucha who came up with the solution. Lucha and Rip were the two veterans who were most interested in making Hollyweird viable, long-term; Nemesis wanted to build on it – he changed it in the end, of course, and then he got heavy into making it everything it could be, but early on all he wanted to do was prove that traditional wrestling wasn't as good as what he wanted.

“Rip and Lucha, they wanted to make a new generation, and they wanted to make the new generation better. They wanted people that fans would look at and think HGC, not Supreme, and not 'who the hell is that?'

“Now, the beauty of Lucha's solution, his little way to calm the waters, is it didn't look like that was his plan.”

Thatcher shrugs. “I didn't know it was happening, at the time. I just knew suddenly I was in the ring a lot. And I'll be honest, when I found out that was part of a bet I was pissed.

“You know what calmed me down? Pete Valentine saw how annoyed I was, he got Rip to talk to me. Pete's no use at that kind of talk himself, but he knows that, and he knows Rip can explain anything.

“That's one of the things that makes Rip the best heel there's been – you tell him he's gonna feud someone, he'll find a justification, and he'll make the crowd believe it.

“By the time Rip was done with me, I was still mad, but I had a better solution. I was going to take the opportunity and I was going to make the most of it, blow them all away...

“And that's how I ended up with what I needed to be champ later, when I got to kick Eric Eisen's head in.”

Peter Valentine smiles. “Rip wanted to leave the sport better. So did Lucha, so did Walker. I'll admit, I haven't thought like that, and that's got a lot to do with why I never started my own company, why I'm not the one who trained Casey, all that...

“But I've done a lot to get wrestlers over. I just don't see what's wrong with staying over when I do it – because I'm still in this business because it's a business, alright? I want to draw money, I want the guy I'm wrestling to draw money. If I take home more of it than they do, well, that's business.

“But when Lucha proposed the bet, I was happy. If Sam's got a reason to get behind Charlie, then Sam's going to be keeping me strong, too, and expecting me to work with him – and that's good for both of us. It's proportionately better for Charlie than for me, because even if I make more money, the difference between what he starts on and what he ends up with is bigger.

“And if Sam Strong's bet he can make you a credible champion before Nemesis can make the Nation of Filth credible champs, then Sam Strong has every reason to get behind you.”

Todd Cusson smiles lopsidedly. “The beauty of it was that Sam and Nemesis both got into it just as the challenge. I asked Lucha a couple weeks later if it was deliberate that he'd given 'em a long-term challenge neither one could win if the other one ended up kicked out of the company, and he just nodded.

“Lucha's as smart a guy as anyone in pro wrestling. And that, my friends, is why the luchadores were willing to come to HollyWeird... because the man they could trust was willing.”

Babylon in HGC? Colour me goddamn intrigued.

Babylon has indeed come to HollyWeird.

If I had been watching HGC in real life, I have a feeling that this would have been the show that would have me leaning forward going "Ok HGC, you officially have my attention."

I particularly like Vengeance's entrance. Very Undertaker.

I'm loving that reaction. I will officially aim to keep your attention.

And... yeah. Bit more of a useful payoff than Katie Vick, right?

Teddy Flame vs. Tom Gilmore

At this point, Gilmore's a young, and extremely green jobber. He'll have to wait a few more years. Besides, Teddy needs to stay strong following his heel turn.

Electrico & Phoenix II vs. Hollywood Mike Kinsey & Rocky Constantino

Old SWF reject, young jobber. Luchadors go over.

Charlie Thatcher vs. Mario Heroic

Inasmuch as I don't want to pick Thatcher...

The Nation of Filth (Grunt & Stink) vs. The Next Generation (Brent Hill & Bryan Holmes)

And this time, I wanted to pick The Nation of Filth, given that they play a major role in my side project diary. Both teams are young, but Hill and Holmes have a ton more upside.

All-Star Team (Bryan Vessey, Larry Vessey & Richie Pangrazzio Jr) vs. Charlie Homicide, Rip Chord & Romeo Heartthrob w/ Karen Killer

Again, Rip Chord will be the game-changer here.

<p><strong>Teddy Flame</strong> vs. Tom Gilmore</p><p>

<em>Flame is still better and more important guy at this point.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Electrico & Phoenix II vs. <strong>Hollywood Mike Kinsey & Rocky Constantino</strong></p><p>

<em>Not sure about this one but I go against luchadors hoping that they don´t have enough overness to go over here (and likely being wrong but got to try something, right?)</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Charlie Thatcher</strong> vs. Mario Heroic</p><p>

<em>Like the idea of that bet, and will be interesting to follow how it goes. Anyway, since Thatcher is now receiving a push he should go over Heroic who isn´t really that important guy in HGC at this point.</em></p><p>

</p><p><strong>

The Nation of Filth (Grunt & Stink)</strong> vs. The Next Generation (Brent Hill & Bryan Holmes)</p><p>

<em>Same here than in Thatcher´s match, Filth is getting a push and that means they are likely to go over since Next Generation isn´t a top level team... yet.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>All-Star Team (Bryan Vessey, Larry Vessey & Richie Pangrazzio Jr)</strong> vs. Charlie Homicide, Rip Chord & Romeo Heartthrob w/ Karen Killer</p><p>

<em>Tough to go against Chord but I figure this is the type of match where he might get that occasional loss since All-Star Team is much more unified group and there´s Heartthrob who could take the fall on the heel side.</em></p>

Much to the surprise of many viewers, the first shot of the new show after the title package ends isn't the dance routines of the HollyWeird Girls. Instead we see Cowboy Ricky Dale, a slight frown of concentration on his face, attempting to master the sponsor of the last PPV, <em>X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter</em>.</p><p> </p><p>

He's not terribly good, frankly.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://s293.photobucket.com/user/trenchcoatbrigand/media/TCW/One-Offs/DuaneStone_Self1.jpg.html" rel="external nofollow"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/TCW/One-Offs/DuaneStone_Self1.jpg</span></a></div><p></p><p></p><p>

There's a cough from behind him, and the Cowboy shifts away from the PC, shooting straight upright, fists clenching. It is, however, not a direct threat; it is, instead, the trenchcoated Black Cobra.</p><p> </p><p>

“You've got some trouble approaching,” Cobra says. “Valentine and Thatcher's a bad enough combination for one guy. Your old friend doesn't make life any better.</p><p> </p><p>

“If you want some trouble, then I'm here to help.”</p><p> </p><p>

There's a pause. “Not that I ain't grateful, but we ain't hardly spoken two words 'fore now. Why're you doin' this?”</p><p> </p><p>

“Partly it's that wrestlers need to make themselves seen. But mostly... you used to call yourself Sidewinder.</p><p> </p><p>

Teddy Flame vs. Tom Gilmore</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

While Tom Gilmore still hasn't really received enough exposure to get much of the crowd behind him, they stay in their seats for the most part – because right now, Teddy Flame is hated the way usually only Sam Keith and Dread get to be.</p><p> </p><p>

Gilmore makes the most of all eyes being on him, and Teddy is hard-pressed, at times, to stop the bursts of innovative offence from the young Canadian. In the end it's a slap that brings Gilmore up short; the younger man shows a burst of temper before getting nailed with a Flame On to carry the match for Teddy.</p><p>

Young Blood are sat backstage watching the aftermath of the match on a monitor. They're discussing the finish in low tones, when the quartet that is the Untouchables strut past. Troy Tornado grabs Paul Blood's chair back and yanks on it, flipping the chair and sending him to the floor.</p><p> </p><p>

The arena practically empties to the concession stand rather than accept these near-unknowns wrestling with Mike Kinsey. And it's a shame, as what they miss is actually pretty good – just without any fan reaction whatsoever.</p><p> </p><p>

Phoenix II rallies well, cutting off Constantino with a beautiful, textbook huracanrana, but Kinsey promptly boots Electrico off the apron, stuns Phoenix with a Point Four, and then hits the Final Cut for the victory.</p><p>

The camera pans along the floor until it comes to a halt on a pair of black leather boots, bespurred, in typical cowboy cut. A brutal brawl, dominated by the duo who do better in brutal brawls, though the Next Generation do manage to hit some key spots which they can be sure will make it to highlight reels, notably when Bryan Holmes converts a Stink powerbomb into a DDT, leaving both men down. Brent tries to save his partner, but Grunt cuts him off, suplexes him onto Holmes, and then makes the pin to pick up a victory.</p><p>

Charlie Homicide, Rip Chord & Romeo Heartthrob w/ Karen Killer</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

There's a great match in here – good, careful opening, with Heartthrob and Rip trading holds skilfully with the All-Stars, slowly ramping up in pace and intensity. Heartthrob first pushes the envelope, going for a low blow on Larry Vessey – who blocks that swing, with the kind of veteran presence few people not named Vessey ever have – and the tensions rise there.</p><p> </p><p>

Chord is a little more canny, catching Bryan with a paintbrush slap that drives Vessey into a fury, leading in short order to Vessey eating a Rip Chord DDT and his teammates both rushing in to break the fall before it can end the match.</p><p> </p><p>

And then Chord tags in Homicide.</p><p> </p><p>

<em>All hell breaks loose.</em></p><p> </p><p>

All six men are in the ring pretty much constantly from that point on. The brawl is unpleasant, vicious, and frequently inventive. Charlie Homicide manages to level Bryan Vessey with a turnbuckle bomb, and with Heartthrob and Pangrazzio exchanging holds, and Chord and Larry Vessey playing veteran games, that's enough for the match to be decided to the detriment of the All-Star Team.</p><p>

“The problem was, he'd faxed in his running order, but we couldn't get him on the phone. And he'd booked a running order where there wasn't the room there was supposed to be for tag stuff.”</p><p> </p><p>

He smiles fondly. “I'll tell you, actually, that if you were at the venue that night you got a <em>killer</em> hour before the show started. Things like a ten-man match with the Powers and the Demons allied together... all the stuff Nemesis thought would pop the locals that he wasn't willing to sacrifice developing new names for.</p><p> </p><p>

“Oh, and Peter Valentine didn't show up, and nor did the girls.”</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>–</p><p> </p><p>

<a href="http://s293.photobucket.com/user/trenchcoatbrigand/media/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/PeterValentine_zps28746aab.jpg.html" rel="external nofollow"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/PeterValentine_zps28746aab.jpg</span></a></p><p>

</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Valentine chuckles. “I know how planned it looks!” he says. “I mean, I'd have to be a damn fool not to.</p><p> </p><p>

“If I'd <em>actually</em> been looking to make the show fail, I would've been a lot less obvious about it. No – I just didn't realise it started the first week of the month, that's all.”</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>–</p><p> </p><p>

<a href="http://s293.photobucket.com/user/trenchcoatbrigand/media/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/TheHype_zps5b660eaf.jpg.html" rel="external nofollow"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/TheHype_zps5b660eaf.jpg</span></a></p><p>

</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

“It all came off kind of weak,” Cusson says, “except the main event. And Rip Chord rebooked the main event. He was so angry when he decided he had to, I remember. Said he understood what the show meant even if nobody else did.</p><p> </p><p>

“So he and the Vesseys and Romeo – who, by the way, one of the most underrated workers in that locker room, because nobody looked past his gimmick – and Charlie and Richie, they saved the show. And we all knew it hadn't been what it should be, and we went to the hotel, those of us who'd bothered going, and Rip bought everyone two rounds to thank us, and I remember Nemesis bought a third, and Dread bought a fourth, and the veterans groused about how the show would die.</p><p> </p><p>

“And then the following morning the ratings were two whole points above what we'd ever pulled before and suddenly everything changed.”</p>

Tuesday nights are burned into the heart of every true-blue wrestling fan, and we will pledge once again to not let you down! On tap tonight, <strong>Frankie Future</strong> does battle with good-hearted <strong>Joey Flame</strong>. Frankie tells us "the future has arrived, and that's the honest truth," but Flame will look to prove he wasn't a weak link.</p><p> </p><p>

The <strong>Human Arsenal</strong>, too, has a challenge ahead of him. Shane Sneer tells us he booked this match because <strong>Jimmy Power</strong> is 'one of the greatest old-school technicians out there' and Arsenal has the potential to take that mantle. But will that be tonight?</p><p> </p><p>

Tag team action follows, with the <strong>Young Bloods</strong> taking on the <strong>Tag Team Specialists</strong> as arranged last week. The Bloods already have a PPV victory on their resume - can they go better?</p><p> </p><p>

And at the top of their first hour, up-and-coming tag team <strong>The Next Generation</strong> will do non-title battle against the <strong>Powers of Hell</strong>. Can Brent and Bryan shock the world?</p><p> </p><p>

It's Ricky against Rocky after that, as <strong>Cowboy Ricky Dale </strong>does battle with <strong>Rocky Constantino</strong>. While Dale is ineligible for the Cruiserweight Championship, both these men are currently very closely watched...</p><p> </p><p>

More tag team action next sees Rip Chord's proteges, the <strong>Stardusts</strong>, going head to head with <strong>Mucha Lucha</strong>. Different styles, but both teams need to be able to handle that.</p><p> </p><p>

Six-Man Intergender action follows, as <strong>Ashley Amazon, Peter Valentine and Charlie Thatcher</strong> take on <strong>the Hype, Whistler and Victoria</strong>. Who knows which side will triumph through?</p><p> </p><p>

And lastly, in the main event, another non-title contest as <strong>Monty Walker </strong>goes head-to-head with <strong>Rip Chord</strong>...</p><p> </p><p>

Prediction Key:</p><p>

Frankie Future vs. Joey Flame</p><p> </p><p>

Human Arsenal vs. Jimmy Power</p><p> </p><p>

Tag Team Specialists (Joel Bryant & Robert Oxford) vs. Young Blood (Paul & Richard Blood)</p><p> </p><p>

The Next Generation (Brent Hill & Bryan Holmes) vs. the Powers of Hell (BLZ Bubb & Nemesis) (non-title)</p><p> </p><p>

Cowboy Ricky Dale vs. Rocky Constantino (non-title)</p><p> </p><p>

Mucha Lucha (Electrico & Mr Lucha) vs. the Stardusts (Doug & Eddie Stardust) w/ Marilyn Stardust</p><p> </p><p>

Ashley Amazon, Charlie Thatcher & Peter Valentine w/ Dream Girl vs. The Hype, Victoria & WHistler w/ Lady Melissa</p><p> </p><p>

Monty Walker vs. Rip Chord (non-title)</p>

<p>Frankie Future vs. <strong>Joey Flame</strong></p><p>

<em>Flame is higher on pecking order.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Human Arsenal vs. <strong>Jimmy Power</strong></p><p>

<em>No doubt that Arsenal is better but I think this is another one of those matches were backstage politics play bigger part than actual skills.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Tag Team Specialists (Joel Bryant & Robert Oxford)</strong> vs. Young Blood (Paul & Richard Blood)</p><p>

<em>I don´t see Specialists loosing to rookie team.</em></p><p> </p><p>

The Next Generation (Brent Hill & Bryan Holmes) vs. <strong>the Powers of Hell (BLZ Bubb & Nemesis)</strong> (non-title)</p><p>

<em>It´s non title but with Generation losing to The Nation of Filth in last show, it´s hard to see them going over here.... though it could actually help Nation in a way, so maybe there is a small change.... NO, I still go with Powers of Hell.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Cowboy Ricky Dale</strong> vs. Rocky Constantino (non-title)</p><p>

<em>Ricky Dale gets a win but I bet his night end on bad terms as either Vengeance or Valentine is likely to make an appearance.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Mucha Lucha (Electrico & Mr Lucha)</strong> vs. the Stardusts (Doug & Eddie Stardust) w/ Marilyn Stardust</p><p>

<em>Much like Youngbloods, Stardusts are too new to go over established guys and Mr Lucha is established enough.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ashley Amazon, Charlie Thatcher & Peter Valentine w/ Dream Girl </strong>vs. The Hype, Victoria & WHistler w/ Lady Melissa</p><p>

<em>I can´t wait to read a interview that expains this match (I hope there is one </em><img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><em>). Anyway, don´t see Valentine or Thatcher losing this one (man, it feels odd to say that).</em></p><p> </p><p>

Monty Walker vs. <strong>Rip Chord</strong> (non-title)</p><p>

<em>Not sure how over Monty is but I just can´t see him going over Rip in one on one match.</em></p>

Frankie Future vs. Joey Flame</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

It's not a bad little opening bout, here. Joey and Frankie go back and forth a few times, but Frankie – while showing flashes of genius – has yet to come up with tricks the veteran Flame hasn't seen and learned to counter.</p><p> </p><p>

Future has a lot of defences of his own, but the Flame On breaks through them, and Joey secures himself a victory.</p><p>

Human Arsenal vs. Jimmy Power</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Another solid enough match, albeit with many of the crowd not paying attention. The story here is that Arsenal has tricks Jimmy hasn't seen, but Jimmy Power has the strength and the technical nous to one-by-one figure out ways past each in turn, forcing the younger man to go to the wilder end of his playbook.</p><p> </p><p>

In the end he misses with a missile dropkick. Power tries to lock in a hold, only for Arsenal to kick him away, kip up, overbalance slightly and stumble into the deadly Powerbomb Deathlock.</p><p>

The Untouchables are moving backstage, smiling and laughing, with the Specialists dressed to wrestle while Tornado proudly examines his brass knucks and Paul Steadyfast appears to be telling an intricate joke.</p><p> </p><p>

“...we call ourselves The Aristocrats!” he finishes, and the other three laugh the laughter of violent, camaraderie-filled men.</p><p> </p><p>

And then they come to a halt. Liberty is standing right there, arms folded, expression utterly unreadable.</p><p> </p><p>

“I'm getting fond of those boys,” he says. “You four have been taking all kind of cheating tack lately... and it will not stand, man, you know? This, you know, this b******t, pardon my French, will not stand.</p><p> </p><p>

“Not with those boys. You hear me?”</p><p> </p><p>

Steadyfast just grins.</p><p> </p><p>

“Whatever, cupcake,” he says. “We aren't jumping your boys. Robert and Joel, they don't need us to.” He pauses, shaking his head. “Go argue with Chord, huh?”</p><p> </p><p>

The four push past Liberty, who stares after them, frowning.</p><p> </p><p>

Tag Team Specialists vs. Young Blood</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Young Blood inspire, wowing those of the crowd who're around, in the early going, but even as brothers, they don't quite know how to hand off for tags well enough to keep the Specialists from turning it around. Richard gets isolated and takes a beating, then the Specialists allow a tag. In comes Paul, who briefly cleans house before getting DDTed by Bryant.</p><p> </p><p>

Richard is isolated and hit with the One Shot Drop then the Top Rope Kneedrop, with Robert Oxford securing the pinfall.</p><p>

Next Generation vs. Powers of Hell</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

An excellent match, hindered only by Brent Hill's lingering, niggling spinal injury and the fact none of the audience are willing to buy the Generation having any chance against the Powers.</p><p> </p><p>

Hill and Holmes do their best to make people believe it, though, even managing to get Bubb off his feet with an innovative two-man German suplex. It's not enough for Holmes to pin him, though, and the rally and comeback is only able to go so far before Nemesis nails Holmes with the Nemesis Arrow, picking up another pin.</p><p>

Cowboy Ricky Dale vs. Rocky Constantino</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

One of the things that truly marks Constantino out is his skill and flair as a brawler, and against the rangy Texan, that's a recipe for something really fun. The battle goes all over the ring, back and forth steadily and vigorously, throwing hands and eating slams, and the like.</p><p> </p><p>

Dale ultimately has more reach and more weight to him, and ducks a second-rope lariat by Constantino. The Cruiserweight champ rolls through and to his feet, but when he turns he finds the Southern Justice waiting for him.</p><p>

The church bell starts to toll once again. Dale instantly pales; the crowd, too, is looking around in surprise, though it takes a TV viewer a few moments to realise why – but then it sinks in; the bell chimes are not coming from the same speakers as everything else has been.</p><p> </p><p>

The two Texans stare each other down, silently. A third man slides into the ring; Black Cobra. The staredown becomes a silent triangle for a long moment, then the dead warrior throws his head back, laughing.</p><p> </p><p>

Mucha Lucha vs. The Stardusts w/ Marilyn Stardust</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Again, far from the worst of contests. The two luchadores walk the younger (even than Electrico) team through a classic big man/high flier match, delivering a meat-and-potatoes contest that's easy and enjoyable to watch, though nothing exceptional.</p><p> </p><p>

Perhaps the biggest moment comes at the end; Doug Stardust rallies against Mr Lucha (helped by a knee to the small of Lucha's back from his bigger brother) and whips him to the corner, charging in after; Lucha floats over him, scoops the big man seemingly effortlessly onto his shoulders and scores with the Master Drop in one seamless moment. The pinfall is academic.</p><p>

Jason Azaria's mic opens up to the arena PA.</p><p> </p><p>

“Ladies and gentlemen, at this time we ask you to welcome a special appearance. Direct your attention to the GoldenGlass screen there, as we're privileged to have with us, via satellite linkup from his hospital bed, the legend, the icon, the ultimate hero...</p><p> </p><p>

Applause fills the arena as the screen comes to life, showing Sam lying there. His trademark tye-dye bandanna is missing, replaced with a wrap of bandages. Young Alicia sits on the side of the bed, holding a new HGC action figure of her father.</p><p> </p><p>

“So I've heard, now, that I've lost my title,” he begins. “Well...” He raises one hand, open. “What can I do about that, brother? Dread put me through the ringer, but he didn't beat me. And you ask me, brother, the one you need to blame for me being in here is the man calling the shots. Shane Sneer's-”</p><p> </p><p>

Strong keeps talking, but <em>Taking Care of Business</em> has kicked in and been dialled up loud enough that he can't possibly be heard.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>

Shane Sneer walks briskly to the ring, mic in hand, sour look on his face. As Strong's feed reveals this, he falls silent. Alicia looks up, sensitive to her father's mood, and two generations of Strong glower at the man in the ring.</p><p> </p><p>

Sneer draws a thumb across his throat and the music kicks out.</p><p> </p><p>

“Oh, no, Strong,” Shane growls. “Oh no no no...</p><p> </p><p>

“We've had our problems, Strong. We've had so many problems, you and me, across four different companies.</p><p> </p><p>

“In any other circumstance, Sam, I <em>would</em> have it in for you. But I don't. I don't have a problem with you, Sam, because now, you're making <em>me</em> money. I make money when this company makes money, and you, Sam? You've always been pure profit, and <em>that</em> is what runs through your veins.</p><p> </p><p>

“What I don't like is you in that hospital bed. I don't like the money you're not making me. And I asked you – I begged you, I pleaded with you, both of you – not to take the Test of Steel.</p><p> </p><p>

“You asked for a match that would finish it. I gave you the <em>only</em> match that could finish it.</p><p> </p><p>

“If you don't like what it did to you – you know what? You were warned.</p><p> </p><p>

“You're going to be back soon, Sam. And I'm not going to give you a chance to complain there. I'm going to keep treating you like the blank cheque you are. Title shots. Big money matches. Easy breaks.</p><p> </p><p>

“You earned all those, Sam. You broke them free from people – people I managed, usually – and you took them for yourself.</p><p> </p><p>

“But this is HollyWeird, and it's my rules. And you work for me. Everybody here works for me. Everybody here gets what they're owed.”</p><p> </p><p>

Wordlessly, Sam Strong takes his action figure from his daughter. He unclips the tiny silvered rubber replica of the World Heavyweight Championship and holds it up.</p><p> </p><p>

“You'll earn it back, Strong,” Sneer says. “But until then, make do with that one.</p><p> </p><p>

The surprise find of this match is Whistler, who explodes into action, taking every opportunity to impress, including giving Peter Valentine a slingshot suplex-into-a-stunner currently becoming well known in the East Coast War – Valentine, of all people! He doesn't make the cover, as Thatcher is there to cut him off, but he certainly opens by making his mark.</p><p> </p><p>

The women continue to do their thing. Peter Valentine prevents Dream Girl and Lady Melissa from getting into a catfight, thus justifying his heel status to much of the crowd.</p><p> </p><p>

The Hype gets a shining moment in the sun when he takes down Amazon and Thatcher with a moonsault, but he plays to the crowd too long. Valentine nails the Heart Breaker and gets the win.</p><p>

Monty Walker vs. Rip Chord</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Jason Azaria does his best with the play-by-play for this one, but it's hard for him to keep up. Chord is one of the members of the old school best able to work a fast pace, while Walker has a lot of new tricks to bust out.</p><p> </p><p>

A superkick is countered into an electric chair; a DDT attempt blocked and reversed into a snap suplex; flying elbows hit home and bearhugs turn into suplexes. Both men push the other to the absolute limit, and Walker even manages to avoid the trap of the high flier in HGC, not falling foul of one high-risk move too many.</p><p> </p><p>

Instead, he's just pushed to his limit – and a hair too slow to respond when Chord pounces, hitting a Rip Chord DDT that puts Walker down for the three – and only the three; Walker kicks out a hair later.</p><p>

Peter Valentine smiles grimly. “Oh, yeah, another thing – sometime around then I started working an angle with Cobra. Monty Walker taps his teeth thoughtfully. “Far as I could see, I was lucky to not really have a program after the Jimmy Power thing wound down. I had a title, I showed up occasionally, I dropped matches to the top guys, I won from time to time. Sam didn't care about the International belt, so I never got derailed.</p><p> </p><p>

“Now, Sam was trying to brush off or dump a lot of the bad influences, but the worst were with him. He'd gambled on the Test of Steel to cement the singles stuff as more important, and the Vesseys were still shifting merch – and in the dirtsheets, it was the Generation and the Maple Leafs as much as anyone who were getting good match reviews.</p><p> </p><p>

“Round about then I started riding with Rip and Jimmy, when I didn't have to fly back to work DaVE. That was a mistake, in some ways, because that was stapling my colours to the mast.”</p>

<p>Walker's statement seems kinda weird: I always thought the relationship between Chord and Strong didn't feature particularly strong liking or disliking of one another, it was more a case of mutual respect because the two knew they could always do good business with one another, so they accepted the others existence. Obviously, it seems Nemesis is changing everything with his very existence, so it looks like we will have to deal with.......Chord being politicked out of the main event?</p><p> </p><p>

Honestly, I still wonder at Strong's rationale(or lack of it) for why Chord/Strong is being held off in favor of Strong/Dread considering that seemed to be THE match that built HGC in CV canon(although supposedly Chord was dogging it around this time, but Derek B changed it so he was quitting alcohol at this point instead of degenerating further and further into the sauce until he rehabbed and made MAW). This self-centered Strong really works out well for all concerned, though, as CV Strong never quite seems right given his real-life counterpart's relentless strip-mining of the business.</p><p> </p><p>

Great stuff all around. Looking forward to the next shoot.</p>
