[C-Verse 97] [HGC/DaVE] Everybody Knows

Frankie Future vs. Tom Gilmore

I don´t remember Future doing that much so far in this diary (he did have a feud with Monty but that´s all I remember) so I figure that Gilmore could get a win here in order to keep his recent fortunes bit better as otherwise it would be hard to build him up once the time for the push comes.

Next Generation (Brent Hill & Bryan Holmes) vs. Streets Run Red (Dusty Streets & Giant Redwood)

In most diaries, this would be no-contest but here Redwood actually has a good shot winning (which is why I like this diary so much) and that´s what I´m expecting him to do.

Saionji Omura vs. Whistler w/ Louis Williams

Whistler is in the title match and that has to be enough for him to get past Omura.

Wanda vs. Victoria

Victoria have had more screen time so far so I figure she gets a win here too.

The Tag Team Specialists (Joel Bryant & Robert Oxford) vs. Electrico & Phoenix II

Named team over... well non-named team.

Black Serpent Cult (Cobra & Viper) vs. Nation Of Filth (Grunt & Stink)

Filth is getting a push but Serpent Cult is likely a bridge too far for them.

Bryan Vessey vs. Charlie Homicide w/ Karen Killer

Again, Homicide is in the title match and that´s enough reason for him to go over tag team guy like Vessey.

Frankie Future vs. Tom Gilmore

I think Frankie has been acting jobber so far, so I'm not expecting that to change.

Next Generation (Brent Hill & Bryan Holmes) vs. Streets Run Red (Dusty Streets & Giant Redwood)

Well...ummm...I cried a little inside.

Saionji Omura vs. Whistler w/ Louis Williams

Whistler needs to look strong before his title shot.

Wanda vs. Victoria

Unless someone wants Sean McFly to beat them up.

The Tag Team Specialists (Joel Bryant & Robert Oxford) vs. Electrico & Phoenix II

The specialists have been on a run recently and I'm not expecting that to change.

Black Serpent Cult (Cobra & Viper) vs. Nation Of Filth (Grunt & Stink)

I'm not sure about this one but with a PPV coming up I sense shenanigans no matter who wins.

Bryan Vessey vs. Charlie Homicide w/ Karen Killer

Homicide has been booked strong so far in this diary and if this is leading to a feud he needs to win here to make it meaningful.

As the dancing ends, Cowboy Ricky Dale emerges. He poses between April and Reese, then heads down to the ring.

Collecting a mic from the ring announcer, he pauses to high-five a young kid in a foam cowboy hat, then climbs into the ring itself.

“I'm not gonna take up much of your time,” he tells the crowd politely. “First match is getting' ready, I know. But I've got a match this Sunday that could go one of two ways, and I want to know which. Mr Sneer, are you back there?”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/ShaneSneer_zpsdc151672.jpg

Takin' Care Of Business hits and Shane heads down to the ring. He takes a moment to shake Dale's hand before stepping back, producing a mic of his own, and gesturing for the Cowboy to continue.

“You made me a tag team match for Sunday, Mr Sneer,” he begins. “And that's fine. But you said, too, that Se - that... someone... might be joining us, one side or another, if he chose... so long as he gets a contract in time.”

Sneer nods, and Dale continues.

“What I want to know is-”

The arena is flooded with bright, pure, white light; thunder rolls. And when it dies away, Shane Sneer and Cowboy Ricky Dale stand atop a ring mat on which red writing suddenly glistens.

It appears to be a giant-size version of a contract... and at the bottom, a signature:

Frankie Future vs. Tom Gilmore

These first contestants look more than a little uncomfortable wrestling on the apparently blood-soaked canvas, though as the match goes on, the red stains slowly seem to fade away.

Gilmore seems a little more disconcerted by the whole thing than Frankie, and he eats the Futureshock fairly early on, unable to kick out from the impact.

Next Generation vs. Streets Run Red

Brent and Bryan have brought the best out of the majority of their opponents, and that knack manifests here once again, as Giant Redwood is involved in one of the standout matches of this career. It's still not great, but it could be a lot worse.

Saionji Omura vs. Whistler w/ Louis Williams

A brawl, and not necessarily a great one – but not as bad as it might be. Whistler dominates throughout, hounding the Japanese wildman before levelling him with a Rebel Yell.

Rolling into the ring shortly after the match, Louis Williams celebrates with his client for a few moments, high-fiving, all smiles. He makes a circle of the ring, slowly removing his suit jacket, as the fans, already catching on to this, begin to chant.

Worm! Worm! Worm! Worm!

True to form, Louis Williams does the Worm across the ring.

The big screen comes to life and music begins to play; Tier by Rammstein thunders through the sound system as we enter a montage. Eddie and Doug Stardust are brawling with one another in a wrestling ring as Rip and Marilyn circle the outside, watching them, Rip barking out instructions.

It's very clear that they're training hard and, as Eddie chokeslams Doug, it's also more than clear that they have the killer instinct needed.

Wanda vs. Victoria

There still isn't a lot of interest from the local fans in the HollyWeird girls as wrestlers, but those of the crowd who're around do seem to enjoy this one. The display is somewhere between technical and “lewd wriggling,” as Charlie Thatcher, guesting on commentary, characterises it. Thatcher refuses to explain what his interest is in the match.

Victoria and Wanda put on an interesting display which ends when Victoria locks in a stretch which leaves Wanda's cleavage on clear display to the hard camera, seeing Wanda tap to it ultimately.

Tag Team Specialists vs. Electrico & Phoenix II

And another great display of tag team action; it seems like the luchadores and the Specialists know how to make one another look incredible. Oxford and Bryant dominate partly through closer teamwork, with Azaria noting that while Phoenix II is experienced in tag teams, he's not used to his current partner.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/TroyTornado_zps14859227.jpg

Still, the luchadores hold their own well enough, and even rally, with Electrico catching Bryant with an impressive series of moves culminating with a superkick. That puts Joel down, and Electrico is about to capitalise, but Robert Oxford has the ref's attention – and Troy Tornado sails in from nowhere to hit Electrico with a Star Maker!

Phoenix rescues his partner, but that just leaves him in position for Oxford to flatten and truss up into a firm pin.

Black Serpent Cult vs. Nation of Filth

Quite a rowdy match, this one, and not necessarily that good; the Cult have control throughout, though the Nation periodically overpower to hit something big. Cobra in particular seems almost out of it by the time the match nears a close.

Unfortunately for the Nation, Cobra and Viper have been wearing them down steadily, and the surges of offence the Nation have would have to be spectacularly well-timed to grant the victory. Instead, Grunt catches a Snakebite Roundhouse Kick from Viper that gives the Cult the victory.

Bryan Vessey vs. Charlie Homicide w/ Karen Killer

Suddenly things really wake yup, once again. Bryan Vessey is one of the clear leading lights of his generation. Charlie Homicide has always been a hell of a worker, but he's also riding the momentum wave of his lifetime.

The result, a brawl with pretensions to wrestling, is incredibly watchable, as Bryan doles out Vessey Lines like they're going out of style, while Homicide takes them and continues to laugh that eerie, unsettling cackle. For his part, Charlie is quite happy to muscle Bryan about, and ultimately he gets the upper hand.

The main event isn't settled by pinfall, but by stoppage, when Vessey's legs collapse underneath him, leaving him unable to continue the fight.

Walkin' On The Sun hits as the show moves toward a close, and a highlight video begins, showing some of the major feuds heading into the PPV; showing the situation with Dale, Valentine, Thatcher, Cobra and Azrael, the tag-team brawls, Paul Steadyfast threatening Monty Walker, the rise of the luchadores against Rocky Constantino and his allies, Richie Pangrazzio brawling with Genghis Rahn, and finally, the four men involved in the main event for the World Championship.

“Christ, what a weekend,” Troy Tornado chuckles. “I'd get used to them after a couple of years, but the idea of double-shotting events halfway round the country was new to me back then. What got me through it was Monty, who did know what it was like, and who'd had enough forethought to check with the Hollyweird front office early enough that when they said no he had time to go talk to Stallings.

“Stallings, being not an asshole, covered our travel for the whole thing – Texas Sunday, Philly Monday, and I can't even remember where we did TV from on Tuesday. And with his office booking it, we got good connections arranged because they know what they're doing, more than we do.

“Which didn't stop me getting a phone call on Saturday morning from Phil Vibert, asking whether I was going to be able to miss the PPV and come on and work And, you know, I thought about it.

“He was down Eddie, Dan, and Eric from CGC, and he was down me and Monty, and this was the Double Header, man. It's meant to be the big event, and Night One, he didn't have half his crew.

“So I phoned up the office, and it was, like, you're definitely doing stuff in the pre-show, there's a match pencilled in there, one of Rip's traditional 'learn to work for the crowd, m**********r' matches.

“They said if it was just that, I could probably skip and they'd give someone else the payday, but Sam still hadn't decided how the International match was ending, so I might be needed.

“I wanted to give Phil his dues, even if it meant taking a fall to someone low on the pecking order, but if it was DaVE or PPV, I knew which I had to go with.”

–

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/DaVE%20Guys/PhilVibert_alt2_zpsff731885.jpg

Phil Vibert shrugs. “He did what was right for him. I could be annoyed about that, but it wasn't going to do me any good.

“I had a lot of work to do moving things around for the Double-Header. It had been a crazy year for DaVE in terms of the people we'd lost – half our big-name tag champions, Vengeance, both of these were major losses, both of them mid-story, and our CGC and HGC shared talent wasn't always available. I'd've changed the Double-Header to avoid it if it was possible, but...”

He shrugs. “Sometimes you have commitments, and the weekend working the way it did was the only way it could work; we needed the big names for Night Two.

“We managed, but honestly, the only reason 1997 was good for DaVE was every other War company lost even more important people.” His eyes twinkle. “To HGC. Sometimes the night before a show, like when XFW had to run a show with no ref.”

Michael Cook vs. William Fletcher

The opening contest is... inauspicious. Fletcher and Cook are neither of them men with the DaVE fanbase fully behind them, and Cook has always had the fans riding him about his move execution.

This isn't a match to make them rethink that, but it's a match which is, mercifully, over fast. Cook hits an over-the-shoulder piledriver for the victory.

For viewers at home, the next instalment of the VHS is a sequence with the Darkness Warriors pacing back and forth.

“What's getting under your skin, Jay?” Raul asks.

“Monsters, Raul,” Jay responds. “Monsters are getting under my skin.”

“Monsters have always been under our skin, Jay,” Raul replies.

“That's true, Raul,” Jay says. “We're monsters. We've always been monsters, and we like it tat way.

“And now there are more monsters.”

“Ah, but that's where you're wrong, Jay,” Raul retorts. “We're the only monsters here. The only other monster ran off with his tail between his legs.”

“But they call themselves monsters, Raul,” Jay explicates. “And that gets under my skin.”

“Then there's only one thing to do, Jay. We must break open theirs, and bathe in their blood.”

American Monsters w/ Miss Bliss © vs. Death Metal w/ Professor Nero

A better match, certainly, and Death Metal are slowly starting to garner some support – they're not good, yet, but they work as a team, and they work very well as a team. The Monsters aren't quite there, yet, but Ray Diaz at least is an excellent wrestler who truly knows just exactly what he's doing.

And the result is something that gets the fans reacting well; the Monsters continue to grow something resembling an American legend, while Death Metal hit hard and aren't afraid to put their metal masks to use with headbutts.

Diaz steps clear and nails the Ray Gun on Metal, and Roy Stephens holds Death back while Diaz gets the pin.

Moments later, Professor Nero's once-feared cane comes down on Diaz' head. The Professor takes a step back and tees off on Ray's balls, then turns to lay out Stephens, bloodying him.

Diaz goes to grab the Professor from behind and gets intercepted by Death, only for Death to be thrown out of the ring, crashing into – and breaking – a table on the outside.

Ray turns back, only to be blindsided by another cane shot from the Professor.

“That's enough of that!” Phil Vibert barks on the microphone. The combatants pause.

“Let's settle this, and let's settle this fast. Ray, Nero, you seem to be the problems here. So as of right now, the two of you are in a Tables Match. Stephens, Death Metal, get the hell out of here before I come up with something horrible for you.”

Professor Nero vs. Ray Diaz

The battle isn't bad; Nero isn't as fast or as strong as he used to be, and even at his peak, the Intelligent Monster wasn't on Diaz' level. On the other hand, there's nobody wilier or more devastating than Mycroft Nero when he takes off the gloves.

The result is a contest that keeps on going for quite some time. After a few minutes' competition, the Darkness Brothers rush the ring. They beat down Ray Diaz, boost him into the air, and put him through a table with a huge flapjack/jumping DDT combo.

Special by Garbage begins to play, and Easy Emma emerges, followed shortly afterward by the only member of the School of Tradition in attendance tonight.

“Ladies... and the ones who matter, the gentlemen,” she purrs, drawing an instant commingling of heat and arousal, “it is my very great pleasure to present to you one of the greatest students to have enrolled in the School of Tradition, and therefore one of the greatest professional wrestlers in the world today – and, by my personal stamp of approval, one hell of a man -” Cornell blushes uncomfortably “- Tommy Cornell, straight, strong and enduring as British steel.

Thomas Morgan vs. Tommy Cornell w/ Easy Emma

Despite Easy Emma's strong and strident words, this match seems close to even – surprising, given that Morgan has been positioned, until 1997, as an afterthought in DaVE. The Trademark has been showing new fire, resilience, and drive against a rash of technically-oriented opponents, and while this isn't his best outing since, it's up there.

Morgan and Cornell take it back and forth a lot before Cornell finally gets an advantage. From one knee, his leg having been weakened, Tommy punches Morgan in the nuts, then locks down the Guilt Trip for submission. Morgan fights a long time, but has to tap out in the end.

Memory's Garden by Trouble begins to play, and Freddie Datsun makes his way down to the ring. He takes the mic from beside Vibert on the announce table, and rolls into the ring, Miss Bliss sitting on the middle rope to hold the ropes open for him.

He holds the ropes for Miss Bliss in turn, shoots another look at Vibert, and raises the mic to his lips. “We'll get to you in good time,” he promises Vibert, then turns to face the entry ramp.

“Barnes, you son of a b***h, I reckon you're back there. Get on out here, because you've got a lot to answer for.

“I don't answer to you,” he says. “Never have, never will. And I'm sure as s*** not going to take any kinda punishment for what I choose to do.

“You mean-” Datsun is turning toward Vibert, and Barnes feints toward Bliss. The American Everyman swivels back reflexively, and Vibert rises from the announce table. “HEY!”

Datsun glances back toward the other threat, and Derek Barnes catches him with a chain-wrapped fist. Vibert laughs over the mic.

“We've got a match,” he says. “Biker Chain Brawl!”

Derek Barnes vs. Freddie Datsun w/ Miss Bliss

And what a brawl it turns into... Back and forth they go, and it's good, it's very good, and the only downside is that somewhere along the way the tone goes sour.

Datsun manages, slowly, to turn it around, almost getting a Patriot Slam with the chain wrapped around Barnes' throat, but Derek rakes his eyes, slipping clear – then dives out of the ring, one hand in the pocket of his leather trousers.

He grabs Miss Bliss around the throat with one paw, counters her swing with a raised arm, and then holds up his switchblade, looking across to Datsun.

“Surrender,” he says flatly. Datsun has never had to deal with this before, and while everyone knows that he and Bliss are willing to take all kinds of punishment for one another, this time, it's a knife.

A hush falls across Pennsylvania Park. Nobody is quite sure how to read the fans' silence on this, but it's a horribly real-feeling moment.

Datsun drops to one knee and taps the mat three times. The bell rings.

There's a long pause after the match in which Datsun and Bliss comfort one another, supporting one another up the aisle. At length, Phil Vibert stands up, taking the microphone, and starts talking, trying to distract those of the audience discomfited by the change.

“DaVE is changing,” he says. “Because I'm generous. And tonight, I decided to do you a favor. I decided to show you what the new DaVE is going to be. Because Vin Tanner may be an old man, but Vin Tanner has spirit. He has adjustability. He's a pro-active businessman, and he may still have a bright future.

“JD Morgan has been DaVE Extreme Champion more than anyone else. He understands what real wrestling is. He is the forefront of our new direction. He is the leader.

“And against them tonight, the old DaVE, everything wrong with wrestling, Johnny Martin, and his new buddy, the so-called Lone Wolf, a sub-par interloper from a company that's been morally and intellectually bankrupt and which, mark my words, I will see bankrupted for real.

“A victory is guaranteed for the new DaVE, the better DaVE, the shape of wrestling to come.”

JD Morgan & Vin Tanner w/ Phil Vibert vs. Johnny Martin & Shawn Gonzales

It's hardly the finest match in DaVE history, but it ain't exactly bad. Martin and Gonzales combine well, and Tanner puts up a good showing while Morgan works well with either opponent. He brains Gonzales with the title belt early, only for Johnny Martin to hold his own a while.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/DaVE%20Guys/DerekBarnes_zps40ef6d32.jpg

Once the Lone Wolf rallies, it starts turning against Vibert's 'new DaVE'. And then Derek Barnes joins the fray; he and Martin brawl together a while, Gonzales ducks a plancha attempt from Morgan that puts sees JD put himself through the announce table.

Shawn ducks Tanner's lariat attempt, picks his legs out, and goes to a Latino Crab, cinching it in efficiently. Vin taps before a recovered Morgan can quite reach him and break it up.

“Hope you guys aren't missing me,” a cheerful voice declares. There's a pause, and then a thunderous chant emerges from the Penn Park faithful.

“Well, now, be fair,” Monty Walker's voice emerges. “I'm not the only reason this show's sold out. There's some pretty big names here with me. I mean, I'd advise catching the replay this Wednesday...

“Not tomorrow's. Tomorrow, you want to be here.

“Emma tells me JD didn't defend his title tonight. And that means he's still got it.

“Morgan, if you've got any manner of balls at all, you'll be here in the main event tomorrow night, and you'll get your belt good and polished up for me. Because tomorrow night, Night Two of the Double Header, I'm taking your damn belt. And then, believe me, DaVE is going to start selling out every damn place we go!”

“So... I'll say this much,” Roy Stephens says. “I'm glad it wasn't on PPV. The knife thing creeped me the f**k out. The footage is still out there, but it's nowhere near as common as some of the stuff we got.

“At the time, everyone thought it was some shit Phil had pulled to work Freddie and Bliss. Everyone but me, Derek, Freddie and Bliss – and I wish to God they'd clued me in before they did it. Because I was freaked until they let me in on it.

“The whole point was the same thing as Phil's speeches about JD – to push DaVE as one hell of a crazy place, cover up for the drift we were taking away from chairshots. The kind of talent available was changing, and stealing the main events off each other wasn't going to work for the East Coast Wars much longer – HGC had stolen most of their top talents already.

“But I don't think it was a good idea. We made the headlines. I think someone sued for psychological trauma. The Mayor and the Chief of Police both got asked if we should be allowed to run in the city.”

“Looking back on it, expansion was really the only logical thing to do,” Thomas Morgan concedes. “At the time it was just survival for DaVE; we might need a foothold somewhere else.

“That was when I started wondering about going somewhere else, too; I really didn't want to get into that kind of storyline. I was a House of Stone graduate, you know? Same class as Sherlock, and every time I turn on HGC I see him and Brent Hill getting treated great for newcomers. He might've been losing, but he looked good doing it.

“Here's me doing the same thing, but for less than one percent of the audience, and now some motherf***er in my promotion's waving a knife around...”

“That was the moment,” the young man known as Switchblade confesses. “I loved DaVE already when we got the tapes bootlegged our way. But that was the moment it hit me how much I wanted to get that kind of reaction out of other people.

“From then on I knew who I wanted to be.”

It's time! Excessive Force is upon us, and if you've paid already, you know how good this is going to be. And if you don't?

A six-man tag is scheduled to open proceedings. Liberty & Young Blood have been competing against Rip Chord & the Stardusts in a battle of who's best for a long time now. Now, all six men will be in the ring - so will this war be settled?

The HGC Hardcore Championship will be on the line next. Richie Pangrazzio defends against Genghis Rahn in - of course - a Hardcore match.

The next match is a tag team match, contested under Bra & Panties rules. Ashley Amazon aligns with Wanda Fish. Their opponents? Miss Mexico and Victoria. We know you've been waiting for this!

More tag action to follow; Electrico & the Hype take on Rocky Constantino and Romeo Heartthrob in a bid to make the Cruiserweight Championship picture clearer. Critics have suggested that Constantino has yet to prove he deserves the championship, but tonight might be the night...

The HGC International Championship is also set to be defended. Reigning champion Monty Walker has been threatened by Paul Steadyfast, but Joey Flame is also in the picture, and this could go a number of different ways. Will the Untouchables get their leader his first taste of HGC gold? Will Joey beat his brother to the punch?

More tag team action, as the former Sidewinder Cowboy Ricky Dale teams with Black Cobra against the threatening duo of Peter Valentine and Charlie Thatcher. Adding to the intrigue is the question of Azrael, who is nominally free to join either side...

In the semi-main, both the Black Serpent Cult and the Demons of Rage hope to dethrone the Powers of Hell and claim the HGC Tag Team Championships - but can either team? Who'll come out on top? And will it settle any of the ongoing questions?

Lastly, a four-way dance for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship. Charlie Homicide, the devil's only saint, and Mr Lucha, the pride of Mexico, have both tasted gold in HGC before, but never this gold; Dread has warred for it for months, and the last entrant is the pick of the man who kept the shadow of fear at bay - the military muscleman Whistler has new representation and a new zest for victory! Who will come out on top?

OK, gang, just as a note...

I'm going to turn this back into a bit of a contest, predictions-wise.

Winners will get to name secondary DaVE events, until such time as DaVE actually has sufficient events.

This will be the case for this PPV, the Double-Header Night Two, and then I'll start us a prediction league.

Prizes for after that to be worked out later.
