The music shifts, becoming discomforting, disquieting, and the TV feed briefly shimmers with static before returning – focused on bare wooden floorboards, worn smooth in places. We've seen these many times before, occasionally spattered with rain – but this time they are spattered with blood.

The camera pans across, and the splashes and drops turn into bloody footprints, bare feet, the feet of a woman, The camera follows this new track to find Karen Killer curled into Homicide's lap. Homcide himself is sunk into a dead, decaying armchair that his posture nonetheless treats as a throne. Standing beside them, the World Heavyweight Championship belt slung over his shoulder, is Babylon, waiting patiently. And facing in this direction, the camera's mic pickup catches whimpers from offscreen...

“Blood and gold founded our country,” Homicide says. “Blood and gold runs through our country's history, and when the two meet, the survivors prosper.

“The survivors truly are men. The survivors are worthy.

“Today, we return to that blessed state.”

Babylon drops the belt into a pool of blood with a wet smack. Homicide smiles.

The Maple Leafs vs. The Tag Team Specialists

A surprisingly even match; the Leafs are definitely getting the measure of HollyWeird, as Azaria points out on commentary. They're getting more comfortable, and between Slapshot's speed and Grinder's power, that makes them very dangerous.

The Specialists don't have that kind of overwhelming power, but they do still have their teamwork, and that's one of the most important weapons you can wield in two-on-two competition. They rally from an early beatdown, and between the pair of them, a One Shot Drop and Oxford's top rope knee can put Grinder away.

Charlie Thatcher vs. Whistler w/ Louis Williams

Not a great match – although really one of its biggest problems is simply having outstayed its welcome; notably it pushes Thatcher to the brink of exhaustion before Whistler gets the Rebel Yell, and the match honestly suffers for that anticlimax.

Still, there's flashes of something here... Whistler is getting momentum behind him, and Thatcher looks to be learning.

In celebration, Louis Williams joins his client in the ring. They high-five before the 'Worm' backs off to one side of the ring and, much to the fans' audible delight, struts his stuff across the ring with his namesake dance move.

“The military mat master is picking up a surprising following,” Azaria remarks.

The Nation of Filth vs. Streets Run Red vs. Young Blood

A big, chaotic brawl in the opening, and it's Dusty Streets who gets the best of that in the early going – until the Nation combine, making extensive use of the five-count between tags to get an advantage.

Young Blood have almost all the fan support here, and their development under Liberty's tuition is showing well, especially when the brothers combine, between them able to deliver a Liberation Slam to Giant Redwood – but Redwood doesn't take that lying down; he kicks out hard and fast and lays in stiff shots for a good minute before gassing out.

Dusty and Stink trade dominance for a little while, with the younger wrestlers taking the brunt of the punishment. The uneasy alliance can't last, though, and Redwood clobbers Stink from behind; Dusty boots Grunt off the apron, and a Standing Splash from Redwood pins Paul Blood.

Cowboy Ricky Dale vs. Teddy Flame

As inexplicably as Teddy Flame joined the announce team for the tag title match on Sunday, Nemesis is with the announce desk this time around.

Dale and Flame are evenly matched, it seems; both are a lot more resilient than their relatively athletic frames would suggest, with Dale having a wiry strength, Flame having the speed and the aerial experience. After a jumping lariat from the second rope puts him on his back, Dale can be seen checking his jaw with one hand, a thoughtful look in his eyes – and Flame takes advantage to catch him with a sliding dropkick to the back.

The Cowboy rallies over time, taking the fight to Flame and beginning to turn the tide. Teddy tries to rally, but Dale catches his cross-body and releases a fallaway slam, catching Eugene Williams and putting the ref temporarily down.

Immediately a clap of thunder fills the arena and the place flares white.

Azrael is in the ring as everyone's sight clears. Dale and he go toe to toe, the Cowboy this time getting some offence where before he didn't, but he's still overpowered when a woman's cry of anguish echoes over the speakers.

Azrael chokeslams him and leaves, and Teddy Flame makes the cover as Williams recovers. “So who the hell is the woman?” Rhodes asks, by this time utterly bewildered.

The Next Generation vs. The Stardusts w/ Marilyn Stardust

As Hour Two starts off two young tag teams go head to head. The power of the Stardusts is lethal, and their combinations are nasty – Doug hits a release belly-to-belly that sends Brent flying toward the Stardust corner, where Eddie punches him out of the air – but the Next Generation are efficient, quick, and surgical in their approach.

They focus on Eddie, slowly wearing down his arm strength with holds, dropkicks, and the feared single-arm DDT, weakening his ability as a powerhouse and also making it a LOT easier to pin him – which Bryan Holmes ultimately succeeds in doing after a Cyclone Shock Kick.

The camera shows a number of the rookies of HGC hanging out together backstage, drinking beers or sodas, watching the aftermath of the tag match on monitors and chatting. It does seem like, down at the bottom of the pecking order, very few wrestlers are forming cliques, just hanging out with more or less anyone. Admittedly, the sight of Phoenix II chugging a beer is a little odd...

Suddenly, Jimmy Power surges into shot. He grabs the Human Arsenal, hits him with a couple of forearms, then lays him out with a powerbomb as the rookies scatter, staying watchful and wary.

He turns the Arsenal over into the deathlock half of his signature move, but his music begins to play, as he's in the next match. Apparently frustrated, he releases Arsenal and stalks off.

Tom Gilmore looks at Mario Heroic, Power's opponent in the upcoming match, and halfway smirks.

“Rather you than me,” he says. “I've never liked wrestling someone that angry.”

Jimmy Power vs. Mario Heroic

Heroic gets a few bursts of his innovative offence here, but not much; Power is on a tear, clearly raging as the announce team speculate on why he'd attack Arsenal. The prevailing theory is that it connects to Arsenal having been named ahead of Power as an underrated technician.

Heroic ultimately gets hit by the Powerbomb Deathlock – and taps the moment Power locks it in, not wanting to take even more abuse as a proxy for the Arsenal.

Backstage to the interview area, and the Powers of Hell are in place. Bubb glowers furiously at the camera, but Nemesis gives voice to a deep bass chuckle.

“They fall, my friend,” he tells BLZ Bubb. “They fall to our fists, to our feet, and most of all, when we hurl them down.

“I've got to tell you, people, when I came here, I expected more of a challenge. But I guess the flame has been snuffed out. I guess the brothers don't understand what they truly could be, and the demons understand their place in Hell's rankings...

“I guess I was wrong...”

For a match at this point on the card, this contest really isn't anything like good enough. Somehow everything just seems a little too slow, Rahn doesn't come off as dangerous enough, and the Hype is treating it like another day at the office...

Ultimately, he connects with the Greatest Hits, then grabs the pin – and the crowd do react to that, but until then, the biggest pop went to Lady Melissa's skimpy outfit.

Demons of Rage vs. Vessey Brothers

In the main event, on the other hand, three veterans and a young man deliver. Perhaps fired up by the Powers' words less than half an hour earlier, both sides lay into one another hard.

The HollyWeird tag division has been developing a reputation for intense brawls among its top teams, and this doesn't change that – but it has a huge moment, when Bryan Vessey suffers the Double Demon Down and kicks out, becoming the only man not named Sam Strong to do so.

It still takes a hell of a lot out of him – we don't see Bryan in action again this match, but it seems to have taken a psychological toll on the Demons, too, and they waver and hesitate. Spite is a couple of seconds too late rescuing Anger after Larry gets the Sick Cycle, and the Vesseys win the battle.

Brent Hill shakes his head. “I had a lot of sympathy for John,” he says. “The Arsenal, that is. Lot of sympathy for John. We'd thrown down in CZCW on a King of the Indies tournament, and I liked him. I always wanted to work with him more – I think if we'd been trusted with it we could've done something special.

“But I had a lot of sympathy for him, and Tom, because they were in limbo the way I was – but my booker was honest about it. Mr C told me and Bryan that we were going to have to go through a period where we wouldn't get programs, we'd just get matches, and we'd be treading water.

“Said to collect the paycheques and get better, and we'd get what we were after. And I've gotta say, we believed him – and he was right. But John, John got no word of anything. And then suddenly he had a program... and that was cool. But it wasn't the right kind of program. Jimmy Power's a technician. John can go with what his opponent does, but the money in those two was them wrestling, not fighting.

“It took a while to get to that. And the hell of it is, the only reason either of them got that feud was an attempt to make the magazine mean something. Way I hear it, Sam might as well have picked their names out of the hat.

“We actually had to remind him Jimmy was the heel.”

“I'm big into my workouts,” Whistler says. “Was then. Even more now, because I've got a look to maintain and hey – if I don't watch my cardio, I'm going to gas out bad in the ring these days.

“In my home town, I know all the best gyms. Hell, my home state, I know all the best gyms.

“Suddenly I was on the road, though. So suddenly I'm dealing with not knowing where to go, and I'm following the big names, because hey, they've been on the road long enough to know.

“So it must've been early July, and I caught a ride to the gym with Vessey after we touched down in Boise for a house show. We decide to grab breakfast when we're done and we walk into... I wanna say it was Big Easy's place, which, by the way, is the real reason Punisher has a mad-on for Idaho – ask me sometime in a bar, that story takes forever.

“And we see Dusty and Redwood in there, and Dusty is literally forcing Redwood to stay on the treadmill... he's on there for like five minutes and we're wondering if he's going to have a heart attack.

“Dusty knew that until Redwood could go without gassing, that was it for Dusty. He was scoring wins every time he went out, but no title, no matter what. So man, was he ever making it a mission.” Whistler grins. “After that we used to go watch that before we worked out. I think Larry wanted to embarrass Redwood fit or something. All I know is, don't disagree when Larry lays down the law.”

–

Robert Oxford shrugs. “I didn't mind getting ignored, so much, like we were as far as title shots went. We couldn't sell a PPV. Wins were enough, right then.

“But the Powers promos, when they happened, just put the whole division down. That, I wasn't a fan of.” He chuckles.

“It's hard to mind it now. At the time... You know, there was the upper card, who were mostly being protected pretty well, except for the booker laughing them off. And then there was the top of the middle card, like us, and Streets and Redwood.

“They were politics. We were top of the midcard teams because we'd already got a title under our belts that had some respect... just in the wrong country.

“By the time Mr C dropped those promos we were seriously talking about heading back there for good.”

It's Too Much For Tuesday, but HollyWeird is here to make that right. Some serious action will go down Thursday night, including...

Streets Run Red have been a dominant force since they came together. Tonight they face a debuting team - they've had no chance to scout and they don't know who it'll be, and nor do you. Will the winning streak come to an end? Who knows?

He's in the form of his career. Whistler is a powerhouse, and the military mat master is showing why he was Sam Strong's pick to win. But that paints a target on your back, and the latest to try going right through that target is Tribal Warrior of the team Savage Fury. Whistler's strong - but Tribal Warrior may beat him in that regard. So who'll win?

Four tag teams enter the ring, and only one can leave, showing once again why HGC is the only place to be if you respect tag team wrestling. The One Percenters, the Stardusts, the Tag Team Specialists and Young Blood - this is guaranteed to be one to watch, and in all that chaos, anyone could get the win!

Frankie Future remains aggravating backstage. Elsewhere on the HGC website we have some digitized FMV of him attacking the Hardcore Champion Richie Pangrazzio - who's demanded satisfaction in a match tonight. It's not pretty backstage, not always...

And that just leaves the main event - but what a main event! The shadow of fear takes on the ghost who walks as Dread goes head to head with breakout star Monty Walker!

Prediction Key:

Streets Run Red (Dusty Streets & Giant Redwood) vs. ????

Tribal Warrior vs. Whistler w/ Louis Williams

Given Monty's rising star, I could see him maybe being put over Dread in the not too distant future. But not today, and not on anything less than a major PPV event.

The big screen comes to life again, Sam Strong resolving into focus in an armchair in his room. A number of title belts can be seen on the mantlepiece, along with a bookcase lined with leather-bound books on the other side. Below the mantle there is, at this time of year, no fire, but Alicia Strong sits cross-legged on the floor, concentrating with great intensity on her HGC Action Ring and the figures within.

Sam smiles at the camera. “Well, brother, I'm back home from the hospital, and I'm walking again, but I'll tell you, brother, I'm not ready for action yet – and more's the damn pity. My pick, Whistler, he went out there and he tried his hardest, brother, and he almost got there. I'm proud to've picked him.

“But Charlie Homicide's an underhanded snake, and we've just got to face, brother, that he's got my title. We've just gotta accept that, and fight to change it.

“Liberty, I've not seen as much of your wrestlin' as I should – just this past six months, brother, when we've fought together. I know you've been a champ, brother. I know Rip Chord never wanted you in here, because he knows your reputation.

“So you may not be my pick, but I'm pulling for you, brother, to kick Homicide's ass. This country isn't about blood and gold – it's about the red, white, and blue!”

On the floor, Alicia's Sam Strong action figure performs a somewhat uncharacteristic moonsault.

Streets Run Red vs. Sweet Sensations

“Interesting youngsters, these Sweet Sensations,” Rhodes says as they enter. “Mm,” Azaria agrees. “This is Jackie P and Davey J, and they've performed some of the wrestlers' themes. Cut a deal through the HGC Studio to appear in matches. I don't know much about them beyond that.”

For micropop stars, Davey and Jackie seem surprisingly competent as high-flying wrestlers – but their acrobatics just can't topple Redwood, and they certainly can't outthink the calculating Dusty Streets. Davey ultimately falls to the Dust Off after six minutes of bell time.

Tribal Warrior vs. Whistler w/ Louis Williams

Warrior gets a chance to show his power early, but it's not enough. Caught in a backbreaker hold, Whistler looks to be fading, but Louis, pounding the ring, gets the entire crowd to clap along, and to that thunderous rhythm the military mat master makes his comeback.

And it's a short comeback, but a dominant one, ending with Whistler planting the Warrior with a spinebuster then playing to the crowd, waiting for the Warrior to rise – REBEL YELL!

Back from commercial and we go to what looks like an upmarket bar. The windows show bright, midafternoon daylight, and a picturesque city skyline outside. Sprawled in plush leather armchairs around a glass-topped table are Rocky Constantino, Romeo Heartthrob, and 'Hollywood' Mike Kinsey, all dressed to impress in various ways.

For example, Constantino has the Cruiserweight belt slung over one shoulder.

“Welcome,” Romeo Heartthrob tells the camera, “to the big city. Welcome to the good life.” He spreads his arms wide in theatrical style. “Los Angeles, three-twenty in the afternoon. The happy hunting ground... and our training regimen.”

Hollywood Mike picks up the story, sipping from his Mojito as he does so. “Around us you see the trophy wives of the rich. Around us you see bored housewives, trying to find a way to spend their time.”

“We call this a target-rich environment,” Constantino chimes in. “And it's incredible for cardio.”

“And if you get yourself a girl who's feeling freaky,” Kinsey offers, “you can work on your pain threshold and your upper body at the same time.” He grins. “You see, unlike these women's husbands, men with their eyes on the fat, round, curves of the zeroes boosting their bank balance, unlike the luchadores Rocky has such issues with, we are not little men. We're enough to satisfy, to delight, to... Romeo?”

“Make their hearts... throb.” Romeo smirks and rises. “Gentlemen, shall we?”

We then get a brief montage of the trio spreading out, talking intently to good-looking women with wedding rings, to the tune of You Shook Me All Night Long. At the end, they walk together toward the exit. Heartthrob and Constantino have a woman on each arm; Kinsey has a woman on one and the male bartender on the other.

The video ends. Azaria and Rhodes give it a quick gloss, then mention an upcoming four-way tag match – and then the feed cuts backstage.

Shane Sneer has his boots up on his desk, legs crossed, a black laptop on his lap, a beer bottle near his hand, and a broken door at the entrance to his office. He frowns at the masked man framed there.

“Hope there's some kind of explanation for his,” he says, a dangerous tone to his mild voice.

Electrico stares back at him.

The Tag Team Specialists vs. Young Blood

Four teams. Four corners. Four men in the ring at any time, and oftentimes five or more. It's a good thing HollyWeird have enough cameras seeded around ringside.

The Stardusts' battle of power with the One Percenters is a frankly astonishing thing at times. It's interesting that it divides that way, but Young Blood seem interested in out-wrestling the Specialists, and so it is that those two threads form the core of the match, with occasional overlap.

Around the seventh minute, Kyle Rhodes puts his finger on what's been annoying him about the Specialists; they wrestle like they're waiting for something. Rhodes and Azaria speculate on interference incoming – and then they see what they were really waiting for; something as simple as an opening.

Oxford nails Doug Stardust from behind after Doug and Eddie put the Night Rider down with the Comet Crash. Eddie's charging Midden on the outside; he eats a headbutt, falling back a step, and Oxford shoves him back into the corner, sending both men out of the ring.

Joel promptly sinks Richard Blood with the One Shot Drop, marking up another victory for the Specialists.

A surprisingly good outing from Future, who's been not-quite-disappointing in his performances prior to this show. Pangrazzio and he put on a technical clinic with just enough brawling to pop the crowd, and Future's never looked more dangerous.

On the other hand, Richie Pangrazzio is the one man so far to truly weather the storm that is the devil's only saint. The “all star survivor”, as Azaria dubs him, is a hard man to put down and keep down.

After a long, close match, Pangrazzio twists a pin cover of Future's until he has the All Star Lock applied, earning him the submission.

Back from commercial, and a brawl spills out of the entrance ramp. Black Cobra is being beaten by Azrael; his agility and combat awareness allow him to dodge a surprising proportion of the abuse, but he's still getting steadily attacked, hammered, as Azaria and Rhodes remind the audience that Cobra came to Cowboy Ricky Dale's aid these past couple of months.

The brawl hits ringside and Takin' Care Of Business begins to play. That seemingly gives even the undead Azrael pause, looking at the entrance ramp, as Shane Sneer emerges.

“Azrael,” he says, “there's a big-ass square of blood-covered canvas in my filing cabinet now, because of you. But that big-ass square of canvas is a contract. And it seems to me you didn't get involved in the match I offered you that for.

Azrael vs. Black Cobra

The Cobra is a talented wrestler, and inside the ring he appears more confident than he did during the brawl. He has takedowns, he has aerial moves – all of them more at home in a ring than hurtling down an entrance ramp or caroming off a guardrail.

Ultimately, it's no real contest. Black Cobra becomes the first man laid out by the piledriver that Rhodes calls an Epitaph.

Azrael defeated Black Cobra

Azaria, somewhat regretfully, throws the camera backstage after the match, “where I'm told Peter Valentine has something to say.”

Backstage with Charlie Thatcher, Valentine seems as smug as it gets. Thatcher's smirking too – but nowhere near as much; he just seems amused.

“So Charlie and I were backstage earlier,” Valentine begins. “And we got into a little bit of a problem with someone... spOoOoOky,” he supplements the daft voice with finger wiggles. In the background, Thatcher winces and rubs his jaw.

“Seems Sean didn't much like me heading to his grave. But I guess it could be worse.. because I could tell him where to find the Cowboy's silly little friend.”

The grin abruptly vanishes. Valentine leans closer to the camera. “I wanted to open up some payback on you anyway, boy. More's coming, and this time it'll be me and Charlie. You do not stand in Peter Valentine's way – and congratulations, you masked idiot, I'm going to make you the example everyone points to for that rule.”

Dread vs. Monty Walker

A gruelling twenty-minute battle, as a distracted Dread is pushed to the very limit of his abilities. The shadow of fear has the devil of a time connecting with the ghost who walks, but whenever he does, Walker definitely feels it – and only the biggest hits in Monty's arsenal do more than slow the big man.

Despite this, he battles gamely, and Azaria in particular gets very strongly behind the ghost who walks before the Dread Bomb seals things.

“If he'd had another year's experience,” Azaria muses. “He didn't, and what he had wasn't quite enough,” Rhodes replies.

“There was a point in July – I think it was the first Thursday show, whatever the f**k we called that,” Paul Hunter says, thoughtfully, “where the second-best match of the night was in the dark.

“Not that it surprised anyone it was good. Mr C, he'd been buddies with Phil Vibert as far back as the Flash Harry days when they were both in the SWF, and as a favour to Phil he got a guy signed to HGC.

“The guy was already pretty strong in Canada – he was facing Jeremy Stone for the tag belts most weeks – but he wasn't too well known in the US, and the DaVE crowds were good at hearing about these folks but not good enough.

“So Phil and Mr C did a deal to get the guy some exposure. Fine, so far as it goes, but I don't think Brother Champeen liked getting a guy foisted on him.”

“I got told, flat out, to stretch this guy before the show starts,” Rip Chord says. He leans back in his chair, folding his arms behind his head, showing the CGC logo behind his desk. “Now I'm not gonna say I never shot on a greenhorn a bit. Get them to understand their place. But this guy was trained by Dan Stone.

“Like hell I'm gonna shoot on a Dan Stone trainee. I mean, I like my ankles.” He shrugs. “But after the match, damn. I went straight past Sam to Stallings and told him we needed to use this guy, that we couldn't keep him but we could get ratings for a while and use him to get our boys over.

“The boy listened, Sam got an earful, and everything got a little worse.

“But I'll tell you this – if you look at the shows we ran while Sam was out 'injured' you'll see he didn't rush to replace the star power. Way I figure it, he was banking on the ratings bump when he got back. Wanted to look irreplaceable.

“What he didn't get was, Sam Strong, the wrestler, is irreplaceable. We just wanted to strengthen the show around him, because we neither of us were getting younger. One misjudged Strong Arm Tactic, one torn shoulder tendon, and in the HGC he'd imagined, that's HollyWeird dead before he heals.”

After a busy week to start the month off, this week we have an amazing line-up of matches. Joey Flame looks to return to winning ways after championship disappointment, and his opponent is the Philadelphia Flyer, Ramon Paez.

Speculation running riot over our website's guestbook - is this next match Shane Sneer exerting his will against Electrico? Maybe, maybe not, but Mucha Lucha take on Savage Fury in tag team action.

And in the battle of alliterative females, Ashley Amazon will go to war with Kamikaze Kit. Kit's still looking to get on the scoreboard, while Amazon's record remains pretty strong - but with the HollyWeird Girls, nothing is certain.

Up next in tag team action, the Maple Leafs take on Charlie Thatcher and Peter Valentine. You've got to give these Canadians credit for bravery - and speed, power, and ring skills. I'm just waiting for their first big win.

And we follow that up with a rematch from last month, as the Next Generation again take on the Powers of Hell. The Powers walked away victorious last time, but they've refused to put the belts on the line last time - so what does that tell us?

In six-man tag action to follow, the Untouchables will face Shining Force and Phoenix II. It's ground and pound against the airforce - and it's anyone's guess which way this'll go.

Cowboy Ricky Dale teams with Monty Walker next against another unlikely duo, Teddy Flame and Romeo Heartthrob. With grudges on the table and multiple people having issues with the participants, this one could go any number of ways.

And in the main event, it's World Heavyweight Champion Charlie Homicide and Rip Chord against Liberty and Richie Pangrazzio - and here, the heat of the grudges might well boil over, for all they're meant to be in the past.

Prediction Key:

Joey Flame vs. Ramon Paez

Mucha Lucha (Electrico & Mr Lucha) vs. Savage Fury (Java & Tribal Warrior)

Ashley Amazon w/ Dream Girl vs. Kamikaze Kit

The Maple Leafs (Grinder & Slapshot) vs. Charlie Thatcher & Peter Valentine

The Next Generation (Brent Hill & Bryan Holmes) vs. The Powers of Hell (BLZ Bubb & Nemesis) (non-title)

Shining Force (Dark EAGLE & The Great Hisato) & Phoenix II vs. The Untouchables (Joel Bryant, Paul Steadyfast, & Robert Oxford)

Cowboy Ricky Dale & Monty Walker vs. Romeo Heartthrob & Teddy Flame

Charlie Homicide & Rip Chord w/ Karen Killer vs. Liberty & Richie Pangrazzio

Joey Flame vs. Ramon Paez

Has been doing more.

Mucha Lucha (Electrico & Mr Lucha) vs. Savage Fury (Java & Tribal Warrior)

Seems like Electrico just got himself a storyline, while Lucha is one of the top guys. Savage Fury on the other hand, haven´t done much so far.

Ashley Amazon w/ Dream Girl vs. Kamikaze Kit

So far, Amazon have had pretty good win/lose record so I go with her.

The Maple Leafs (Grinder & Slapshot) vs. Charlie Thatcher & Peter Valentine

No question, which side is more talented but Thatcher & Valentine are more over and are doing more at the moment.

The Next Generation (Brent Hill & Bryan Holmes) vs. The Powers of Hell (BLZ Bubb & Nemesis) (non-title)

Even though it´s non-title, I don´t see Powers of Hell losing this one.

Shining Force (Dark EAGLE & The Great Hisato) & Phoenix II vs. The Untouchables (Joel Bryant, Paul Steadyfast, & Robert Oxford)

Again, Untouchables are higher on the ladders and are doing more at the moment too.

Cowboy Ricky Dale & Monty Walker vs. Romeo Heartthrob & Teddy Flame

Could go either way but I rate Ricky and Monty a bit higher.

Charlie Homicide & Rip Chord w/ Karen Killer vs. Liberty & Richie Pangrazzio

I go with somekind of messy draw here.

Cowboy Ricky Dale comes out, high-fiving Miss Mexico again before heading down to the ring. Apparently on impulse, Mexico pulls him back in and gives him a hug. “Looks like word Ricky Dale's girl is missing has gotten around backstage,” Rhodes observes.

He climbs into the ring and collects a mic, his face having lost the smile as he came out through the dance, looking suddenly very serious.

“Azrael,” he says, “if that's what you're calling yourself. Sean, if you're honest. You gotta bone to pick with me. Sure.

“But I need to talk to the brother I stood shoulder by shoulder with. I need that, Sean – you and me, we got a problem. But you went and gave someone else a problem, too.

“Last week I heard a scream, I got distracted. And you know why?

“I'd heard that scream before, Sean. And you know exactly when. Because I did what any man should do. Barely twenty, and I kicked open your door. I saw what was going on with your girl. I saw why she was screaming.

“I saw the face of someone who'd be glad when you were-”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/SkullDeBones_jhd2_zps8af8569e.jpg

Lightning. Thunder. Azrael takes his place in the ring.

The monstrous man stares at Cowboy Ricky Dale, but doesn't attack. Doesn't speak. Doesn't give ground.

Dale doesn't blink. “When you were gone, Sean. I had to pick up the pieces of your girl. A lot of ways, I still am.

“I held off a long time – we held off a long time – but she's my girl now, Sean. Only...

“Only she's been missing a couple weeks. Considering the crap Valentine and Thatcher pulled, I figured it was them – but when I heard that scream last week, I knew.

“I want her free, Sean. She's no part in what's between you and me. She's a whole other thing.”

Azrael says absolutely nothing. He still hasn't reacted.

“You always had a temper.”

Still no reaction from Azrael.

“This is you and me, Sean. Even if you don't let her all the way back to me, cut her loose.”

He drops to one knee. “I'm begging you-”

Azrael strikes. One punch is all it takes. Lightning flares again, and the monster is gone.

It's not a bad little match; the older flier versus the newer, and while Ramon doesn't dominate, he gets a good chance to show his stuff – but Joey knows what he's doing. He baits Ramon into high-risk, counters with a dropkick, and hits the Flame On to seal the deal.

Mucha Lucha vs. Savage Fury

There've been good cruiserweight/muscle clashes in HollyWeird already, but this one still surprises the crowd – many of whom probably hadn't paid much attention to either team before Lucha's recent rise and Electrico's showing of fire.

It's Electrico, too, who makes much of the running for the luchadores in this one, showing just what he can do when fired up, notably in the closing moments when, though not the legal man, he breaks up a double-team attempt against his ally, sending Java to the outside, then converts a baseball slide on Java into a huracanrana as he exits the ring.

Back in the centre, Mr Lucha capitalises on a dazed Tribal Warrior, hitting the Master Drop to secure the victory.

The Maple Leafs vs. Charlie Thatcher & Peter Valentine

A good outing, this – Thatcher and Grinder have a couple of minutes of brawl which are simply spellbinding, before things bog down again – but the Leafs don't have fans on their side and crowd response is muted, guaranteeing the contest will not quite be all that was hoped.

Peter Valentine's the man who finally picks up a pinfall, and not even by stealing it from his tag partner – Slapshot falls to the Heart Breaker, and Valentine naturally takes full advantage.

The Next Generation vs. The Powers of Hell

The Next Generation continue to show astonishing upside, already starting to innovate new double-teams. “It's a great start for them – but it's not the stuff of champions,” Rhodes says, leading to a debate between him and Azaria about what championship material really is.

The Powers of Hell eventually regroup, although not until the Next Generation nearly score a fall with a signature of the Vesseys. “A team that truly knows that move could well capture the belts,” Azaria exults. “If they can get past the power of Bubb.”

Meanwhile, that power is being unleashed with fervour. Bubb tosses Holmes from the ring; Nemesis takes the opportunity and nails Hill with the Nemesis Arrow to secure a win.

The big screen comes to life with a video package. Set to the tune of Our Lady Peace's Big Dumb Rocket, the clips are of a lean, athletic technician dismantling other wrestlers in the ring. Hands frantically tapping out are a common motif.

Above the whole thing, a voice speaks.

“Professional wrestling takes many different forms. It's different in every country.

“In Canada, the British form of joint lock and tight hold took on a new level of intensity. Scientific attention was given to maximising the pain inflicted on the opponent. A true Canadian technician won't injure you. He doesn't need to.

“You'll tap out before he has to do anything permanent.

“Those technicians, little by little, have been coming to America. You know their names. You know their skill. You know that watching the Canadian style meet the American-originated powerhouse wrestling style, or the Mexican-influenced airborne cruiserweight style, is well worth your time.

As Hollyweird returns, Jimmy Power is in the interview area. Still looking irate, he takes the mic and begins. “I have wrestled all over this country. I've learned from the best. I've battled the greats. I've won. I've bled, and sweated, and left scraps of my opponents on a thousand ring mats in ten thousand places all up and down America.

“The Human Arsenal's done none of that. The only reason anyone should make him the best Underrated Technician is if I'm not on the list. It's if everyone's already recognised what I can do and how well I do it. And-”

Power glares, but gives ground as Rip Chord steps into shot. “Something's been sitting wrong for me the last five minutes,” he says. “I've been going round and round on something I saw watching this show.

“But I know what it is. See, the guy behind me, Jimmy Power – that's American powerhouse wrestling. Sam Strong is overgrown thuggery. Jimmy has some actual skill. His power's an asset. It's not the main course.

“But I'm Rip Chord. I'm a multi-time champion. I'm the greatest living legend, and better than most dead.

“And some Canuckistani punk thinks that American wrestling's all overgrown.

“You know what, Trademark? See me in the ring Thursday. I'm going to make sure I get real American wrestling into your thick head if I have to DDT it there.”

Shining Force & Phoenix II vs. The Untouchables

Fast and furious; the masked side drive the pace, the Untouchables hit back at as close to the same speed as they can, trading off quick tags to stay fresh, to catch their breath... looking for the openings they need.

It's that teamwork that turns the tide, ultimately, as, with Troy Tornado delivering support from the announce table's third seat, Paul Steadyfast gets the Slingshot Suplex on Phoenix II and Bryant and Oxford hold the others back for the pin.

Cowboy Ricky Dale & Monty Walker vs. Romeo Heartthrob & Teddy Flame

Hard-fought, this one, but the crowd seem to be waiting throughout for something that never quite comes. Walker and Dale do some seriously heavy lifting; meanwhile, on commentary, Nemesis is paying close attention to Teddy Flame's performance, and Rhodes is paying close attention to why the hell Nemesis is on commentary and getting nowhere.

The heels don't seem to be meshing as well as the faces, for whom every tag is something a lot more like a high five.

Cowboy Ricky manages to hit Romeo with a Leaping Lariat when Walker baits him in, thereby picking up the victory.

Charlie Homicide & Rip Chord w/ Karen Killer vs. Liberty & Richie Pangrazzio

If the semi-main was solid, this one is a hell of a thing. Two feuds have wound down, but the tempers are still ready to flare beneath the surface.

The match spills out of the ring. At one point, Liberty gets clotheslined over the guardrail into the front row seats. Pangrazzio and Homicide lap up the all-over action, though Chord and Liberty seem a little less happy outside the ring.

Ultimately, order's restored. Charlie Homicide manages to lock down Pangrazzio in a painful-looking backbreaker hold, and when he realises that Liberty hasn't noticed, Richie taps.

“So let me paint you a picture,” Thomas Morgan begins. “I'm wrestling for Dan Stone – and I'm probably there as much because he and Jeremy trained me as anything else. That's what got me in the door. It's making me enough money to get to the arenas, pay the rent, my girlfriend's taking care of the bills, and we can put food on the table. And I've even got a bit spare...”

He rolls his eyes. “Which goes on the air fare once a month down to Penn Park for DaVE, because what I'm getting from Phil doesn't go as far as I'd like. A lot of the DaVE guys are making out on merchandise, or they've got a job somewhere else, or whatever – but working for the Stones got in the way of scheduling, so I'm not in a good position for a job.

“Phil Vibert pulls some strings with John Campbell. I'm flown in Thursday morning. By the end of the next show, I've wrestled Rip Chord twice, shot a hype video, and been paid just shy of a thousand – and Mr Stallings comped the air fare.

“Now, I'd've found some way to pay a thousand for that kind of experience. That was the first week I didn't think about how I was going to stay in the black...” He grins. “I've been lucky. I've never had to since.

“But I never seem to have time to spend my Air Miles.”

–

“Oh, July was great.” Peter Valentine grins. “July was fantastic for me. That was just total vindication.

“It turned out that for all we were thinking of Stallings as a big-ass wallet – one we'd drain sooner or later – he was already pretty smart. We launched in December. In January he hired a research firm.

“We found that out in July, because their report came out. The basic idea was that they did a popularity snapshot of how well people knew our wrestlers at the start, or when they came in, and then another one at the end of June.

“By that stage Sam was getting some backlash from wrestlers – and fans – because he'd been on top. The knock was that he just buried people. And I was his friend, so, obviously, same with me.” He shrugs, rolling his eyes.

“I know I already said this. But working a program with Peter Valentine got eyes on you. I put eyes on people. And when the report came out, me, Charlie, Ricky, Sean, Cobra, and – by the way – all the women – were more over than they started. We had name recognition.”

His face turns serious for a moment. “Playing politics is just good business. Why wouldn't I work with Sam to make sure I was facing off with the best? And if it took three months or more for them to get the win – well, that's three months I'm putting eyes on them.”

What a night we have in store this Thursday! Whistler's shaken off his cracked rib and is ready to compete. On his first night back, he'll go one on one with the champion, Charlie Homicide. Can Sam Strong's pick prove he deserves that top title?

Up next, the Human Arsenal gets a chance to show why HGC Magazine named him the most underrated technician, doing battle for the HGC Cruiserweight Championship against Rocky Constantino.

A second outing for Sweet Sensations pits them against the Tag Team Specialists. Here in HGC, we make sure our new tag teams discover how tough the competition is immediately.

After that, singles action between three strong competitors. Jason Jackson. Jimmy Power. The Hype. Who's going to win out?

Shining Force look to return to winning ways - but as sure as Streets Run Red, they won't have an easy battle tonight. Can they be the first to end the unlikeliest of winning streaks?

You saw the setup on Tuesday. Rip Chord intends to give Thomas Morgan the hardest welcome to HollyWeird, arguably, that any wrestler has ever had. Does Morgan deserve this attention? Could he shock us all? We'll find out.

And tag team action to follow; after a surprisingly close performance against the Powers of Hell, the Next Generation have been invited by Shane Sneer to take on the Demons of Rage. Could they get that breakout win, or will the Demons show why they've been multi-time champions wherever they go?

Finally, the main event. Number one contender Liberty and tag team champion Nemesis are going head to head. The pride of the singles and tag team divisions are on the line...
