As the dance comes to an end, the show cross-fades to the fields of a ranch in Texas. Cowboy Ricky Dale leans on a fence, squinting out from under the brim of his hat. He glances at the camera, and starts to smile slightly, then nods out back the way he was facing. “Look at her,” he says.

Our view pans around, showing Louise on horseback, moving at a gallop. Graceful. Smiling and laughing.

“When she came here she was a dove with broken wings,” he says. “Ten years back, Sean was gone. She was hurting. Confused. And inside her was a seed of darkness Sean had planted – his temper, his issues, all of them had her... tainted, I guess.

“I'm not taking credit for her healing. That was time. I did what any man should do - I gave her the time she needed, the space.

“Well... I guess Sean showed through to help her, last week. But Azrael... he's the one walkin' the earth in that body, now.

“Sean, I loved you like a brother. And because of that I never gave you what you deserved for what you did to your girl, back before she was mine.

“Azrael? Sean's dead. You're everything that's wrong with him. And if you want to call yourself something else... then I'll treat you like someone else. Someone I don't owe.

“And someone who looks a lot like a man I owe the whuppin' of a lifetime.”

Streets Run Red vs. Young Blood

Brutal combat, but also a point where cracks start appearing. The team of Dusty and the Giant is, to be sure, strong enough – but the slowness of Redwood has been noticed, and the Blood brothers become the first to truly take advantage. The first few minutes are all them – but it just takes one punch from Streets, when he comes in, to start the gears shifting.

By the time Redwood is back in, the tide has turned. Paul is tossed from the ring, and Richard eats a spinebuster, then Redwood's feared Standing Splash.

Charlie Thatcher vs. Dread vs. Jason Jackson vs. Tom Gilmore

It's unusual to see someone go toe to toe with Dread who has the height to look him in the eye without getting a crick in their neck. Thatcher manages it, and as the two big men exchange blows, the technicians exchange glances – then hit Dread with a simultaneous dropkick, knowing the shadow of fear for a greater threat, at present, than the licenced cougar hunter.

There's no quarter given after that moment; all four men give it their all, but it seems that Dread has the most all to give. He lawndarts Gilmore into Thatcher, slams Jackson, and pins him while the others are untangling themselves from the pile.

Shane Sneer is in his office, feet up on his desk, watching Dread celebrate, scribbling without apparently looking in a notepad that rests on his desk. The door flies open.

“Didn't lock it that time,” he says, cutting the TV set's feed. He takes his feet off the desk, shifting to sit upright and look at his visitor. “Figured you'd stop by sometime tonight.”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/Eleacutectrico_zps5eef04a5.jpg

“That... filth... had nothing to do with me,” Electrico says.

“Yup,” Sneer nods. “About figured that. Whatever Sam Strong says, Mama Sneer never raised no idiot.

“I'm not saying anybody can get hold of duds like yours, but I am saying only Mike would drop his catchphrase while he was trying to frame someone.” Sneer gestures to a chair at the other side of his desk; after a moment's hesitation, Electrico sits.

“Perhaps it is easier for you to see this than my wife,” Electrico says. “Unfortunately this show does not air in my home country. She knows little about these men other than that I feel great offence.”

“She didn't believe you were innocent.”

“No, Mister Sneer, she did not,” Electrico replies. “Before, I wanted this match. Now I demand it.” He stands, fast, leaning forward and planting his hands on the desk, putting Sneer in his shadow, his voice shaking with intensity. “I will shock him, stun him, and leave him knowing that the true spark of greatness comes from the tradition of the luchador.”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/Whistler_zps6c0099f7.jpg

“Said d**n well, in my opinion,” a voice contributes from the doorway. Both men turn and see Whistler standing there.

He comes into the room and offers a hand to Electrico. Apparently a little surprised, the luchador shakes his hand. “Yours is not the same tradition,” Electrico points out.

Whistler chuckles. “No, it ain't. And you'll excuse me if I think my own way's better. But that's what we're here for.

“A man has to fight for what he believes in.” As if for the first time, he turns his attention to Sneer. “He has to.”

Sneer sighs, shaking his head. “Considering who you have a problem with, I'd love to green-light a match,” he tells the military mat master. “But you have any idea how much trouble that could get us in, contract-wise?”

“Don't much care, Shane,” Whistler says cheerfully. “He's getting enough law trouble racked up. And I want him in that ring.”

“Whistler, if I could, I-”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/SamStrong_agerY3_zpse7368410.jpg

“Oh, you can, brother.” Once again, the camera whip-pans across to the door. Leaning on crutches is Sam Strong.

Sneer actually rises to his feet for that. He adjusts his tie.

“Good to see you, Sam-”

“Don't s**t a s***ter, Sneer,” Sam says. “Brother, you need to listen, here. You know the man here, he was my pick, brother – my pick to be the next champion. To carry the standard.

“Well, brother, seems to me that got a target painted on his back. You've gotta let him show why that was a mistake. You understand me, brother?”

Sneer looks at him long and hard.

“Mr Stallings won't like this,” he says at last. “I'll get you your match, Whistler. And Sam – for what you're doing to the company, may the Lord have mercy on your soul.”

Sweet Sensations vs. The Untouchables

The Sensations, in the opening minutes of this match, string together quite a nice sequence culminating in a stereo suplex, provoking Azaria and Rhodes into a standing ovation on their development as wrestlers. Newcomer Goldworthy is substantially less impressed.

“Frankly,” he points out, “it's the least they should be capable of. They're supposed to be wrestlers.”

And the boy band continue to have problems, as Steadyfast and Oxford seem amused more than anything else. Toward the end, Robert dropkicks Davey off the apron, then tags out; Jackie tries to get vengeance, but Paul Steadyfast lands the Slingshot Suplex and gets the pin.

Nation of Filth vs. Next Generation

Power versus technique. It's a clash that wrestling companies have built on for decades, and these two young teams each exemplify one approach with near-total purity. The big moments from each team come thick and fast, despite much of the audience being at the concession stand.

Azaria plays up the teams' backstage rep on the announce desk, noting that both teams are tipped as future champions by veterans backstage. Rhodes and Goldworthy get into an argument about which team was chosen by someone with foresight.

Toward the end, as the pace picks up, Brent Hill vaults the top rope with a suicide plancha, keeping Stink occupied on the outside. In the ring. Bryan Holmes unleashes an exploder suplex, getting the pin for his team.

Colossus w/ Karen Killer vs. The Hype w/ Lady Melissa

The Hype does his level best, but Colossus is clearly a powerhouse – if an oddball one; the raggedy pleather skirt he's wearing also seems to cause Hype some issues, with his signature dropkick to the knee going awry as he aims into the black and misses flesh altogether.

“The big man just fights like someone who knows the battle's already won,” Goldworthy points out, and it's hard not to agree. The newest of Homicide's group is certainly a worthy addition, absorbing some serious punishment before laying out the Hype with a double-handed choke bomb.

Backstage go the cameras, and Peter Valentine is in place in the interview area – alongside Charlie Thatcher. Thatcher is smirking despite the makings of a black eye behind his sunglasses; on the other hand, just departing shot as the camera comes in is an attractive woman in her late thirties, and Thatcher appears to be pocketing a small folded sheet of paper.

Peter Valentine, meanwhile, is all business. “Cobra!” he growls. “You need to learn. When Valentine talks, you need to listen. When Valentine threatens, you'd best feel scared.

“So you haven't learned that yet – but Summer Showdown, you bet your a** you will. You don't get involved in my business. Try, and you won't have a future in this business.”

And on that unsettling note we cut away, seeing Jimmy Power march to the ring. He snatches a microphone.

“Now, I know some of you Puerto Rican goombahs have it in for me because I've been telling the truth,” he begins, prompting a wave of derision from the crowd.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever,” he says, flapping a hand dismissively. “If you boys had the right to an opinion we'd've made you a state by now.

“Lucky for you, I'm a basically good man.” He grins. “I'm not just gonna tell you you're wrong and dumb. Nobody learns anything that way.

“No, I'm gonna show you. Now, I figured, considering everything, Arsenal should have a buddy. Which means a tag team match. Which means I need a partner too. And since Thomas Morgan has such a problem with good old American power, well, I went out and found someone with a real problem with Thomas Morgan.

Human Arsenal & Thomas Morgan vs. Jimmy Power & Marcus Bowen

To the surprise of much of the crowd – and the vocal total incomprehension of Goldworthy – this match is pretty much exactly even. Arsenal and Morgan have a gameplan, it's clear; Power and Bowen, by contrast, seem more comfortable together but Bowen, in particular, is acting like a high school jock gatecrashing chess club.

Not a risky idea, for that jock – but when the people you're persecuting play human chess, the risk increases exponentially. Both men take some punishment from the technicians, and Arsenal turns the tables when he counters the Powerbomb Deathlock into a huracanrana. He hits the Ammo Dump – Bowen smashes into him with a stampeding charge, breaking the pin. Morgan and Arsenal combine, between them getting Bowen out of the ring – and Jimmy Power hits them from behind. One Powerbomb Deathlock later and Morgan taps.

Black Cobra vs. The Insane Heat

Hard-hitting action here as Cobra turns up the volume on the puroresu-inspired side of his repertoire, clearly looking to show the Heat that he can dish it out just as well. The battle has all the classic signs of a one-upsmanship competition by the end.

It truly could go either way – Cobra has been impressing, but the violent streak of the Heat should never be underestimated – and both men do impress, showing reasons they might break out beyond the midcard pack.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/PeterValentine_zps28746aab.jpg

The Vessey Brothers vs. Charlie Homicide & Rip Chord w/ Karen Killer

And as the evening draws to a close things get brutal. Neither side wishes to lose this, and neither side has traditionally been willing to stop at anything to secure the win.

The whole thing is almost never a regular match; but then, tag teams have always pushed the rules harder than singles wrestlers. And here they are up against wrestling's sickest genius and the devil's only saint.

Things stretch out to near the twenty minute mark before a real opening comes up. With Rip Chord schooling Bryan on the outside, Larry counters a suplex attempt, takes a step to recover, and nails the Sick Cycle on Homicide. He scoops in for the pin – and gets it!

“Of course I wore sunglasses. They looked like the key to getting pushed,” Marcus Roth laughs. “Everything about Marcus Bowen was calculated to ride a wave, to be honest, because Sam said he didn't care so long as I had a real name, not a gimmick name – Jimmy Power and American Buffalo doesn't sound as sensible.

“So, OK. I look at the shows that were airing when I was getting ready to come in. Liberty – shades. Dread – shades. Strong – famously shades, even if he was off the show at the time. They're doing a thing with guys acting like they're coming from Supreme – OK, cool. I've had a few TV matches for Supreme, got those under my belt. Hardly a main roster guy, but I can use it if I want, so I got a new set of long tights and boots in Supreme blue. Marcus'll do for my name, but just in case, and 'cause HGC is teasing the Canadian market, let's tie in up there – and Barry Bowen's doing great business up there.

“Like I say, everything about Marcus Bowen was calculated to make me money fast. Outside of NYCdub, I'd never had a steady run with anyone. NYCdub, I was playing up the gothic angle with Morpheus because it kept me different. In HollyWeird, it looked like fitting in was the way to go.

“I cosied up to Sam pretty hard on my debut show, went out drinking with him and Pete afterward, spotted him in the gym the next morning. That was just good business – you want an actual wrestling career, you fight and scratch and claw to get on TV.

“Course, when I heard who Patriot's backup was actually going to be, I knew I was gonna have to make the thing as Jimmy's ally work. And Jimmy Power was a Rip Chord guy.” He whistles, then laughs. “I mean, tightrope contest, right?”

–

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/TysonBaine_zps9c634cca.jpg

“So Marcus phoned me, saying he got the call,” Baine comments. “I was really excited. He and me, we'd helped each other a lot before I got signed, and I'd been recommending him on and off. I figured if I could show people how good we'd been together, that gave us both another safety line. I got off the phone with him, called Mr C, started pitching another eight-man elimination so we could work together and show our stuff.

“When he arrived for his first show, things were a bit different. He... he picked Sam, basically.

“I kinda could see his point, but I'm not saying it didn't hurt. It was all part of a thing going on at the time – the political camps were going from tense to mutiny.”

–

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/JimmyPower_zpsf9cfcc1c.jpg

“I didn't want Marcus,” Jimmy says. “When the idea of doing some tag work to promote the singles matches came up, I pitched Eric Tyler. I wanted more reasons to work with Morgan, and the two had a storyline down in DaVE we could lift from whenever we wanted, use as background.

“The office told me it was a nice idea, one Rip had put some weight behind, but he'd just signed for Eisen.” He shrugs. “Now that's a thing that happens. So I started thinking about the indy technicians out there – and got told Sam had picked me Marcus.

“Now, here's the thing. Me and another technician is two allies. It's two equals. Me and a muscleman I bring in? That's a worker and a bodyguard. And I didn't want, in this feud, to look like I needed a bodyguard – I wanted people asking who's better, not just saying Arsenal's better.

“You don't always get what you want, though, so it was all down to making it work. So I tried to put as much heat on us as I could right out the gate... Wilson Lopez told me, later, that the not-a-state thing would've got me stabbed just ten years earlier. You have to be very careful how much heat you get in Puerto Rico.”

We're almost no time away from Summer Showdown, and the stakes are just getting higher. But tonight - before that - some other issues come into clarity.

Mucha Lucha are in action as they have been for much of the month, this time against the power of the Nation of Filth, a duo who have power to spare. Will Electrico get one final leap forward, or will he be going into his title match the walking wounded?

His debut on Tuesday clearly impressed Shane Sneer. The behemoth Marcus Bowen has an International Championship bout already, taking on reigning champion Monty Walker. If Bowen triumphs, he could well have the Untouchables on him immediately - but he'll also inherit a guaranteed Pay-Per-View spot.

Tag competition follows, with the Tag Team Specialists, in the words of Paul Steadyfast, "taking time out to school some kids before we get back to serious matches." But with those kids being Young Blood, the tcw.com bunker isn't convinced it'll all be so easy.

He's had a string of high-profile contests already. He's a DaVE standout and trained by the Stones. His name, of course, is Thomas Morgan - and he's facing as tough a challenge as any before. After duelling Rip Chord, he's slated to go up against Dread.

More tag team conflict in the semi-main event, and with one of the highest honours in professional wrestling at stake - the Powers of Hell defend the HGC Tag Team Championships against the Black Serpent Cult. With another title defence for the winners coming up this Sunday, this is going to be a true proving moment for the winners.

The main event is a clash between the top men of HollyWeird. Cowboy Ricky Dale faces both Rip Chord and Teddy Flame. Can Flame prove himself in the singles arena? Will Chord remain the dominant force he has been through his career? Is Cowboy Ricky Dale going to prove himself one of the very best?

Prediction Key:

Mucha Lucha (Electrico & Mr Lucha) vs. Nation of Filth (Grunt & Stink)

HGC International Championship

Monty Walker © vs. Marcus Bowen w/ Jimmy Power

As much as I love me some Black Serpent Cult, I don't see them dethroning the Powers of Hell without more buildup.

Cowboy Ricky Dale vs. Rip Chord vs. Teddy Flame

Teddy and the Cowboy are both integral parts to your roster, but aren't on Rip's level. Plus, I think Rip's getting ready for a title run.

Mucha Lucha (Electrico & Mr Lucha) vs. Nation of Filth (Grunt & Stink)

Electrico is the one in storyline right now so he stays strong.

HGC International Championship

Monty Walker © vs. Marcus Bowen w/ Jimmy Power

I could see a title change here if you want to build Bowen up but it´s likely too much too soon so Monty gets my vote.

Tag Team Specialists (Joel Bryant & Robert Oxford) vs. Young Blood (Paul & Richard Blood)

Specialists have only lost to top teams and Young Blood aren´t a top team.

Dread vs. Thomas Morgan

Morgan could get enough offence to make this a fight instead of squash but that´s about it.

HGC Tag Team Championships

Powers of Hell (BLZ Bubb & Nemesis) vs. Black Serpent Cult (Cobra & Viper)

I do like Cult and will cheer for them here but I doubt they get the belts.

Cowboy Ricky Dale vs. Rip Chord vs. Teddy Flame

Bit suprised that Chord lost the last match but doubt he will lose twice on a row.

The last notes of the song die out – and the arena is plunged into darkness. Thunder rolls. A couple of the younger kids in the audience scream.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/SkullDeBones_jhd2_zps8af8569e.jpg

Suddenly, the ring canvas is alight – or some of it is. It glows an eerie, luminous green. It is Azrael's face – and it begins to move, speaking, Azrael's voice rolling out of the speakers like the thunder that preceded it.

“I died. Another took over my life.

“Now, at last, I have returned.

“One at a time, I will destroy all of your life that you took from me. And then I will destroy you.

Mucha Lucha vs. Nation of Filth

After the lights return and the canvas returns to normal, the show proceeds, and these are the duos set to follow that moment. The job they do isn't actually as bad as you might expect; the Nation are wearing their working boots, and the luchadores as always have much to prove.

And prove it they do, as while the Nation look dangerous, they never quite look like they have control of the match. Electrico 'ranas Stink over the top rope, and Mr Lucha hits Grunt with the Master Drop for the win.

Monty Walker © vs. Marcus Bowen w/ Jimmy Power

Another hard battle against a big man for Walker, who throws himself into this match as he does every match, heedless of other battles that may come later. The ghost who walks is an impressive wrestler, as we already knew, but Bowen shows flashes of potential throughout, clearly knowing how to combine his might and reach with some holds that would be basic without muscle and the principle of leverage.

This one looks like it could go either way; Walker takes a hell of a lot of abuse throughout, but when it comes to it, he's able to backflip out of the way of a charge, nail the Full Monty, and get the pinfall. The championship is safe, but the champion seems groggy as the belt is handed back to him.

The Tag Team Specialists vs. Young Blood

Quite the match here; Young Blood have come a long way since their debut a few months ago, and the Specialists are a shining light of the tag division.

It seems for a while like it's Young Blood's match to lose, and in a way that proves prescient; however, their mistake was not anticipating Joel Bryant, on the outside, to catch Richard with his knee as the youngster ran the ropes.

Oxford promptly capitalised and, while Paul made the save, the brothers were now on the back foot. Bryant and Oxford combine, the top rope knee drop giving the Specialists the victory they'd striven for.

Troy Tornado and Paul Steadyfast join the Specialists in the ring. Steadyfast has a mic, but before anyone speaks, much show is made of manly hugging and other celebration. Arms are raised in jubilation.

After a moment, Steadyfast finally lifts the microphone to his mouth. “Hey, Walker, doesn't even look like you're walking steady at the moment.

“And yet the Untouchables are on top of the world. We're climbing the ladder, Monty. We're on our way up. And you're the next rung to get trod on.

“Y'see, we were only gonna give you the kind offer for so long. You had your chance, Monty. You're done.

“Examples have to be made, Monty. Examples of what happens when you stand up to the Untouchables.”

Commotion rises as someone comes over the guardrail. It's the Masked Patriot! He carefully avoids the ring, snatching a microphone from the ring announcer.

“Don't worry, fans,” Azaria says. “Right,” Rhodes agrees. “Help is on the way!”

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/rentacop1_zps8ccc9922.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/rentacop2_zpsa0bde6cc.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/rentacop3_zpsb7c99180.jpg

As a second camera angle shows the rentacops heading to the ring, even Goldworthy agrees. “Get this guy out of here! We've got a show to do, dammit!”

Patriot raises his mic to his mouth. His lips move – and the fans roar with satisfaction as nothing sounds. He looks at the mic again, whirls around, throwing it at the ring announcer. He grabs another spare, dancing backward around the ring to avoid the cops and their tasers.

This microphone won't work either. The Patriot, in frustration, allows himself to be drawn in to one area. As the cops reach him, forcibly cuffing him, he leans toward the announce table. “Tell him I'm coming!” he yells. “And tell him I'm bringing a friend!”

He's bundled away after that.

Dread vs. Thomas Morgan

The size difference is such that you could probably add two more Thomas Morgans to make this one even. And yet the match itself is... astonishingly even. Morgan's mat mastery is sufficient to keep the shadow of fear off his feet for a decent chunk of the match, and while he has to get close to do it and take his lumps, he's clearly hurting the big man.

It's even stevens for a long time, and the crowd are rallying to Morgan's cause, before, with a bellow, Dread makes it back to his feet.

Punch. Big boot. Suplex. Dreadsault. And it's over.

Powers of Hell © vs. Black Serpent Cult

Following that contest, the crowd are primed for violence – and violence, in the approved Japanese puro style, is exactly what they get here. It's a good match, fast, frantic, and as much fun to watch as it must be painful to compete in.

Goldworthy, on the announce desk, is vehemently against the Cult, describing them as clear has-beens who have no reason to be in the title picture and who should clearly step aside for fresher teams, more talented, with an actual chance to win. Azaria and Rhodes tell him, repeatedly, to get stuffed.

And indeed the Cult look like they might win this for a long stretch of the match; Nemesis in particular takes a heavy beating, but manages to drop Cobra with the Nemesis Arrow and make the tag. In comes Bubb; moments later, in too comes Viper. The match breaks down for a short while at this point, with both of the Powers assaulting Viper while Cobra lies on the floor. By the time order has been restored, Cobra's out of the ring and in the confusion Viper appears to have begun acting as the legal man.

One Hades Bomb to Viper later and the contest may as well be over even before the pin.

Cowboy Ricky Dale vs. Rip Chord vs. Teddy Flame

Nemesis joins the announce team for this one. There's a hell of a battle raging from the bell, with Chord keen to maintain his position as the number one dog. Dale, on the other hand, has losses to Chord to avenge, and Teddy Flame... well, it's been anyone's guess, as Azaria points out in Rhodes' place, what Teddy's been up to this month; something that Nemesis and Teddy have both been close-lipped about.

It's a back-and-forth battle, as these three-way bouts often become. Chord plays the others off against each other superbly, almost always able to counter an assault in such a way the other two are abruptly facing off, his expression serene, the perfect chessmaster.

Between Teddy and Ricky, the advantage lies marginally with the modern day cowboy. Rip balances them carefully, making sure each feels pain, either pitting them against one another or stepping in himself. A particularly questionable moment – one which gets the ref irate – sees Chord DDT Flame into Dale's groin.

As Dale thrashes, Chord smirkingly points out that he didn't low-blow anyone, if you're going to DQ someone, DQ Flame.

Needless to say, Ryan Holland doesn't, and it almost looks like he might punch Chord – but Flame shoves him aside, looking for the Flame On, and Chord flows into a counter and Teddy ends up out of the ring. Behind Rip, the Cowboy rises back to his knee-

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/SkullDeBones_jhd2_zps8af8569e.jpg

And then the arena flares white, and thunder rolls. When vision returns, Ricky Dale is bleeding, stumbling around the ring in a wide arc. With a broad smile, Chord grabs him and hits the DDT again, making the cover for the guaranteed win.

For those in the arena, the show is over. For those at home, though, the camera cuts away, panning slowly over cracked wooden boards. Dried brown bloodstains are starting to fade under the sun; a child't tricycle rests on its side, mangled.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/CharlieHomicide_zps8a26f2a6.jpghttp://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/KarenKiller_alt_zpsda0c9369.jpg

And as the camera pans around, it finds Homicide in the ripped, torn, slightly rotten armchair that passes for his throne, naked but for the championship belt strategically placed. Karen Killer, standing behind the armchair, may be just as naked; she favours the camera with a crooked smile.

For the first time, we hear the cameraman speak. “Sir, please – I don't want – I'm not comfortable-”

“You were not asked to speak,” Homicide says. “We never suggested your words hold weight.”

There's another pause. The cameraman tries again. “I j- I have a family-”

“If something happens to you,” Homicide says, “then just and upright men will oversee the care of your family. Do not fear.”

At this, the cameraman ultimately falls silent. Homicide looks at the camera. “It's a new world,” he says. “We are the new world, America. We have always been so. But at this time, with a fresh sacrifice of blood and gold, we begin a full rebirth.

“And that will be important. A new era of prosperity begins. See – my friend here, Colossus, has been raised from the poor, for he had it in him to be a true man, a just and upright man, and e had the will to truly become one.

“Look around you, America. You may either profit by sacrifice or be sacrificed. For such is how America was made.

“Trust in me, and all shall be well – and all manner of things shall be well.”

Ricky Dale Johnson chuckles. “That whole thing was a trip,” he says. “Everything about the feud with Sean was crazy, the first feud, I mean. But it caught fire in a way we'd none of us expected. I've got to figure that Mr Stallings liked it, because any time we suggested doing crazier stuff, he signed off on it. I remember...”

He glances offscreen, smiling happily, and laughs. “Oh, God, yeah, I remember when Sean pitched speaking through and from the mat. It was a Tuesday afternoon and everyone's there for the show; we had a video slotted for that night but we were bull*****ing other ideas we might pitch for location videos, and Sean came up with the mat thing as a joke.

“So, God, yeah, Charlie Thatcher was there, man likes a good burger as much as Sean, and he decides to call one of the production guys over and get him in on the joke. And the guy gets this thoughtful look on his face and says he can maybe rig something and he'll let us know by next TV – and next TV, we're doing it. So Azrael speaks, and it's a big thing, and it was something we came up with as a joke... because we weren't getting oversight, and we weren't really thinking more than a show or two ahead. We knew me and Azrael in the ring was money; we had to make sure that was a Pay-Per-View thing.”

He laughs again. “Summer Showdown ended up loaded, as far as getting buys goes. Rip and Mr C, they both saw it as the last PPV before Strong would be back wrestling, they wanted it to be a big statement to cut his balls off.

“Me and Sean? We just wanted to have fun while the money train lasted.”

“It was starting to sink in that the thing with Patriot was going to get overshadowed,” Whistler says. “I didn't know who they'd signed to be his buddy, but when Sam showed up just to be injured in my segment, I knew he'd decided this was the one to take over. He was gonna come back in and get all the heat we'd built.

“I didn't have a problem with what Ricky and Sean were doing going over better than mine. They'd built it for ages and everything was in there. Peter Valentine was backstopping them on it, making sure he caught anything they'd missed. I don't know that I'd call Peter a good booker, but if you put him in charge of a story or two he'd deliver a good one.

“Us, we were doing what we could to stay important when we didn't know how it was going to end, and then we got hijacked. I think Patriot was more angry than I was, but neither of us liked it.

“But, you know, the whole place was a powderkeg. Summer Showdown capped off July.

“August, the biggest fights were the ones the public never saw.”

MAsked Patriot jobs to the Paracops on two consecutive shows? Geez, way to put over the invading talen-*shot*

Good to see the shoots here. I'm putting good odds on Bubb over Strong via TKO in the 3rd minute, and of course Stone over Valentine is something you bet the absolute farm on. Hopefully the crisp, Floyd Patterson-esque shot breaks Valentine's jaw so we don't hear this grey hole of charisma go on as if he's worth five damns (He MIGHT be worth 4, but 5? Nah.)

Also curious: Is Raven Robinson gonna ever get a crack at the HGC women's division or is her CV97 self a little too green for primetime?

Summer Showdown is upon us! HollyWeird presents one of the most important Pay-Per-View lineups in history, and we recommend you place your order now - and let us tell you why...

Starting off as always with a gala performance by the HollyWeird Girls, HGC moves straight on to action! And our opening match is an important one - the Black Serpent Cult and the Tag Team Specialists collide again, for the #1 Contendership to the Tag Team Championships! This is the closest that the Specialists have ever been - but the Cult have beaten them recently. And they've got to want to add the HGC belts to their legendary accomplishments...

After that, Black Cobra defends himself against the assault of Peter Valentine. For those of you who may not remember, Cobra's unthinkable crime? Standing up alongside Cowboy Ricky Dale - 'sympathy with the Sidewinder' while Peter Valentine and Charlie Thatcher tormented the modern day cowboy.

Six-man tag action follows; Rip Chord's fascination with Thomas Morgan continues. Rip Chord and the Stardusts made an open challenge to Morgan and two allies at a Friday night event in Tallahassee [see an exclusive Full-Motion Video clip at this link!]. Morgan's found support - so Jason Jackson, Richie Pangrazzio and Thomas Morgan will face Chord and his proteges. Morgan continues to turn heads, it seems, as the near-unknown goes up against the very best and, again and again, pushes veterans and champions almost to their limit. How good will he be in just six months? A year? Ten years?

The seeds of this match were inadvertently planted just one month ago. Human Arsenal took the top spot in the HGC Magazine's list of Underrated Technicians. Jimmy Power was second - and for many, that'd be honor enough. But Power has taken Arsenal's success personally, going so far as to import newcomer Marcus Bowen as an ally in his persecution of the talented young man. The score is 1-0 to Arsenal, with the Magazine delivering that first point - will Power even the score, or will Arsenal emerge victorious? With the contest taking place under Submission rules, the winner will surely have to earn it.

Exciting action from the HollyWeird Girls next - the Canadian Queens of April and Victoria take on the Battle Princesses, Ayesha and Ashley Amazon, in a tag-team Summer Sizzler Match!

The HGC International Championship will be on the line immediately following, as champion Monty Walker remains besieged by the Untouchables. Paul Steadyfast is the challenger, the ghost who walks the champion - but for how much longer? Everything could change in just three seconds...

Dread has been enjoying showcase matches of late. Another has been arranged by Shane Sneer for Summer Showdown, and despite the blazing sun, the shadow of fear is set to fall over Tom Gilmore and the Sweet Sensations. Are three men working in concert enough to upset Dread?

After that will come a match we know for sure everyone's anticipating. Azrael makes only his second venture into the ring when he takes on Cowboy Ricky Dale. The vendetta here goes back ten years or more - and men who were closer than brothers seem hellbent on one another's destruction. Only one thing is certain; neither man will walk away from this match unchanged.

After that, the HGC Cruiserweight Championship will take pride of place. Rocky Constantino, defending champion, also stands accused of ruining Electrico's noble reputation across Mexico, including - most tellingly - with Electrico's wife. Did he do it? Will Electrico destroy him, as he's promised? Is the challenger angry enough for the champ to take advantage of the vital spark?

Shane Sneer doesn't seem happy about it. The clout of the ultimate hero, Sam Strong, was necessary to get the match signed. A lawsuit has been levelled against HGC by the SWF regarding the Masked Patriot's time here [Full story at this link, courtesy of StallCorp's new NewsWire website]. And the Patriot claims he has a friend coming. Can Whistler possibly hold his own? Is this the contest to kill the company?: Just what the hell is going on?

The HGC Tag Team Championships take their rightful place next. Reigning champions the Powers of Hell, former champions the Vessey Brothers - these four men have essentially been at war since Nemesis arrived in HollyWeird. It seems likely that the matter will not be settled at Summer Showdown - but the duo to face the new contenders will be. The right to call themselves champions will be. And there can be no doubt but that the HGC Tag Team Champions are the foremost tag team in the world...

Last and as far from least as can be imagined, the HGC World Heavyweight Championship is going to be on the line. Charlie Homicide makes his first defence and the man who abides, Liberty, is his first challenger. With the greatest prize in the game on the line, both men will be giving it their all - and both men have a lot to lose... Is this just the first shot of a war? Here in the tcw.com bunker, it feels like it just might be...

TAG TEAM #1 CONTENDERSHIP

The Black Serpent Cult (Cobra & Viper) vs. The Tag Team Specialists (Joel Bryant & Robert Oxford)

I actually think this is a close call and if the contendership wouldn´t be on line I would probably go with Specialists but we have heel champs so face team go forward here.

Black Cobra vs. Peter Valentine w/ Charlie Thatcher

Valentine have backstage connections so he gets the win too.

Jason Jackson, Richie Pangrazzio & Thomas Morgan vs. Rip Chord, Doug Stardust & Eddie Stardust w/ Marilyn Stardust

Overall, the faces are stronger unit (never thought I see a day where I call Eddie Peak as one of the weak links) but none of them isn´t on Rip´s level.

SUBMISSION MATCH

Human Arsenal vs. Jimmy Power

Normally, I would go with Human Arsenal but once again, I think baackstage politics might play a part here.

SUMMER SIZZLER MATCH

Battle Princesses (Ashley Amazon & Ayesha) w/ Dream Girl vs. Canadian Queens (April & Victoria)

As usual, these women matches are complete coin tosses for me.

HGC International Championship (NO HOLDS BARRED)

Monty Walker © vs. Paul Steadyfast

Could go either way but Paul isn´t going to play fair so I assume number advantage will be Walker´s undoing in this one.

Dread vs. Sweet Sensations (Davey J & Jackie P) & Tom Gilmore

Ouch, that´s a lot of talent getting buried but I just don´t see Dread loosing this one.

Azrael vs. Cowboy Ricky Dale w/ Louise Robinson

Azrael takes the first round.

HGC Cruiserweight Championship

Rocky Constantino © vs. Electrico

Another could go either way but this time I go with champ.

Masked Patriot w/ ???? vs. Whistler w/ Louis Williams

Patriot gets some kind of cheaty win here to further the story.

HGC Tag Team Championships

Powers of Hell (BLZ Bubb & Nemesis) © vs. The Vessey Brothers (Bryan & Larry Vessey)

While I think that Vessey´s are the best team you have (alongside Hell), I hope that it will be someone else than Vesseys who finally get the belt off from Powers of Hell.

HGC World Heavyweight Championship

Charlie Homicide © w/ Karen Killer vs. Liberty

Homicide is still on that "too early to drop the belt" territory so he retains.

PREDICTION KEY:

TAG TEAM #1 CONTENDERSHIP

The Black Serpent Cult (Cobra & Viper) vs. The Tag Team Specialists (Joel Bryant & Robert Oxford)

Tough call here. But because the Serpents just faced (and lost to) the champs, I'll give the Specialists a shot.

Black Cobra vs. Peter Valentine w/ Charlie Thatcher

Shenanigans

Jason Jackson, Richie Pangrazzio & Thomas Morgan vs. Rip Chord, Doug Stardust & Eddie Stardust w/ Marilyn Stardust

Rip and the Stardusts is a more coherent team.

SUBMISSION MATCH

Human Arsenal vs. Jimmy Power

Jimmy power is a fat tap-out machine.

SUMMER SIZZLER MATCH

Battle Princesses (Ashley Amazon & Ayesha) w/ Dream Girl vs. Canadian Queens (April & Victoria)

Meh.

HGC International Championship (NO HOLDS BARRED)

Monty Walker © vs. Paul Steadyfast

I don't know if Paul has been built up enough to take the title. But it could happen.

Dread vs. Sweet Sensations (Davey J & Jackie P) & Tom Gilmore

Wow. 3-on-1 and I *still* think Dread wins.

Azrael vs. Cowboy Ricky Dale w/ Louise Robinson

Azrael loses his heat if he takes the loss in his debut.

HGC Cruiserweight Championship

Rocky Constantino © vs. Electrico

I think you need one title switch on the card and I think this is it.

Masked Patriot w/ ???? vs. Whistler w/ Louis Williams

Can't wait to see who the mystery manager is!

HGC Tag Team Championships

Powers of Hell (BLZ Bubb & Nemesis) © vs. The Vessey Brothers (Bryan & Larry Vessey)

I could see the belts switching hands here, but I'm not sure how the Powers of Hell take a loss after how strongly they've been built.

HGC World Heavyweight Championship

Charlie Homicide © w/ Karen Killer vs. Liberty

Liberty is not Sam Strong. Therefore, Homicide keeps the belt.

I've been following along, just want to say thank you for this diary, it's great.

Predictions:

Black Cobra vs. Peter Valentine w/ Charlie Thatcher

Connections get Pete the win.

Jason Jackson, Richie Pangrazzio & Thomas Morgan vs. Rip Chord, Doug Stardust & Eddie Stardust w/ Marilyn Stardust

Rip's a bigger deal, and I think a bigger piece of the story

SUBMISSION MATCH

Human Arsenal vs. Jimmy Power

I think Jimmy cheats to win this one.

SUMMER SIZZLER MATCH

Battle Princesses (Ashley Amazon & Ayesha) w/ Dream Girl vs. Canadian Queens (April & Victoria)

Victoria offers more, and Pete doesn't want to fight her family

HGC International Championship (NO HOLDS BARRED)

Monty Walker © vs. Paul Steadyfast

Numbers game is going to catch up to Monty

Dread vs. Sweet Sensations (Davey J & Jackie P) & Tom Gilmore

Dread wins, Tom gets upset, dare I say, angry?

Azrael vs. Cowboy Ricky Dale w/ Louise Robinson

Heel takes this round.

HGC Cruiserweight Championship

Rocky Constantino © vs. Electrico

I think you're building up Electrico, so a win here gives him the belt to transition him into his next feud

Masked Patriot w/ ???? vs. Whistler w/ Louis Williams

Normally never bet against ???, but Sam took this over, so do the opposite

HGC Tag Team Championships

Powers of Hell (BLZ Bubb & Nemesis) © vs. The Vessey Brothers (Bryan & Larry Vessey)

Powers will stay champs until some great feud warrants dropping

HGC World Heavyweight Championship

Charlie Homicide © w/ Karen Killer vs. Liberty

I love how you write Charlie

The reason I may not is the same reason there will be no movement after that point until the following Monday; next week I will be on-site to set up and, later, run, a weekend horror LARP. This week I'm scrambling to get the prepwork done.
