Houston vs ECU

we are 11 pt favorites, and get a 3 star Center (Sowell) to visit

A couple 2nd half TD runs give us a 27-10 victory!

interesting stat - our offensive guard Schuh moves into 2nd place all-time with his 8th fumble recovery!! Our suspended DT Truax has 11 to lead this stat. Nice to have a guy with a nose for the ball on the offensive line. When our RB's drop it, he always seem to be right there

in other scores of interest #1 So Cal got beat by Boise State 10-3! UCLA is the new #1 followed by Texas, Auburn, USC, and Ohio State

1-7 Central Florida at 4-2 ECU who are 11 pt favorites at home

best news is Truax comes off his suspension!! He gets doubleteamed opening up DE Sunde to rack up a couple sacks. we have a couple more great goal line stands in the game en route to an impressive 37-7 win.

The best stand of all - CFU had the ball first and goal from the 1 --- an errant pass lands in the hands of our linebacker Kottie who races 99 yards for a score!

BOISE!!!!!!!!!

So how are we doing in the P-12? & what about LSU?

Aside from the huge win at So Cal, Boise has struggled in the transition.

last year they had the #1 defense in the land, this year ranked #76

their offense has gone from a consistent rank in the 30's to being ranked #115

I'm predicting a losing record for them (first in history of my dynasty). despite that, they are "ranked" #36 (53 in computer poll).

LSU is also struggling this year with a .500 record/ Offense and defense both ranked in top 20. Team is ranked #48 (56 in computer poll) hard to explain how Boise is ranked higher despite the lower performance and record.

3-6 Memphis vs 5-2 ECU

We are 7 point favorites and the team seems to be clicking better with the return of key players. Someone forgot to tell the Tigers!

our first drive looked too easy as Moses mixed in some runs and passes keeping the Tiger D guessing. However, he threw an INT in the end zone to kill the drive. Memphis punts to the 9 and we march down the field again - key play was a 56 yard pass. Capped off with Cromartie over Schuh from the 2 for the TD. Truax hurries the Memphis QB into a mistake and he throws an INT to MLB Martin. We convert the turnover into 3 points. Memphis gets a pair of FG's in the last 30 seconds of the half thanks to a KR fumble. WE lead 10-6. Memphis gets a monster 50+ pass and takes the lead on their first possession of 2nd half. Injuries are starting to mount up on defense, and the offense seems to have lost its focus since the first qtr. Memphis adds another TD and our offense finally wakes up, However, it was too late. trailing by 5 our defense lets Memphis march the length of the field and chew up the last 5 minutes of the game!! Our strength all year was making big stops and getting key turnovers. WE did neither of those today. Memphis came ready to play and we paid the price

final score17-22, a tough home loss. Moses was 20-29 for 232 yards, but 2 big ints. WE average 2.7 yards per carry and just could sustain a drive because of it. Schuh only 1 KRB, no pancakes. That says a lot right there. LB Barr with 10 tackles. Sunde and Truax were shut out. 30,148 fans go home disappointed

Memphis rushed for 200 yards and passed for another 203 against our nationally ranked defense. UAB is still undefeated in the east 6-0 and should have the division wrapped up. Big logjam for 2nd place (with 4 teams tied)

5-3 ECU at 2-6 Central Texas

we shook up the line-up a little bit. Trying to get the more in shape players into the starting line-up. Doesn't do any good to have talent if you're gassed after a couple of plays.

Team took it to heart and score the first 2 times they have the ball. 14-0 first qtr lead. 26-0 at the half as Sunde gets a 12 yard sack for a safety. Negatives for the half would be 3 ints thrown by our QB (but over 300 passing yards. 272 by Moses, and Martin is getting a chance to play some with the lead. 40-3 to start the 4th as we are just rolling. A blown coverage allows CTex to score on a 79 yard bomb. Our defense is playing well, but did come up short on some 3rd/4th and long situations to let them keep drives alive late. 3rd and 21, we give up a 22 yard pass. With time running out, they had it 4th and 10 backed up on the 1 yard line and we allow a 12 yard pass. Despite those few setbacks, we win going away 50-17.

Player of the game is our star OG Schuh with 3 KRB and 4 pancakes (our O-Line had 9 total pancakes). The man is a leader on the field and he was upset at his lack of performance last week against Memphis as were several others. Sunde's sack for a saftey. Truax had 2 sacks. Cromartie got the start today and answers with 61 yards after a slow start. Bradford adds 64 off the bench. Paul Smith returned after a long injury - he had 3 runs in short yardage situations for 23 yards and 2 TD's. True Freshman WR Mike Smith had a breakout game: 5 catches for 116 yards. Cromartie, Cash, and Bradford all caught TD passes. Moses finished with 333 yards, 20 of 29. 1 TD and 3 INT. Easily his best game ever even with the ints/ The 2 back-ups a respectable 9 of 15 for 101 yards. 1 TD< 2 INT> They had a crowd of 39,000. I hope we can get there very soon

We travel to UAB next. They lost their first conference game this week and will be out for blood. They have first place sewed up, so they might be looking ahead to the conference title game. We are fighting for 2nd place right now with 4 teams tied at 4-3 in the east. After UAB, we have 2 big OOC games. South Carolina and Wake Forest only have 1 win each, but both over ranked teams. #20 Tennessee and #23 Nebraska. Right now, our entire focus is to beat UAB and finish strong in conference, then we'll worry about the power conference teams

6-3 ECU travels to 7-3 UAB. Blazers are 5 point favorites. Both teams are fairly even, but UAB has a good home-field advantage

UAB's only losses this year have been to Nebraska 23-20, Notre Dame 42-21 and Tulane last week 26-13. We need to jump on them early like we did Ctex last week and if our defense can hold them to a couple TD's, I like our chances

It was a defensive struggle in the early going - in fact the first score came when UAB smacked our Running back in the end zone for a safety. They took advantage of the field position following the free kick to tack on a TD. ECU manages a FG right before the half making the score 3-9. Teams trade a touchdown in the 3rd and we still trail 10-16, but picking up some momentum as we finally seem to be moving the ball. that was snuffed out with an INT at midfield to start the 4th. UAB makes us pay with a FG. They kick another on their next series and we trail 10-22. with 2 minutes left in the game, Martin finds Smith for a 40 yard TD strike and its 17-22.

Can our defense make a big stand? they do - and get us the ball back with just under a minute left inside the 50. Good news is Martin gets a first down on the first play.. Bad news is Martin throws an INT on the second play,....good news is UAB is called for pass interference and its first down at the 20 and 30 seconds left.. bad news is the next pass was knocked down and almost picked off. Good news is he hits Bell for an 11 yard pass....bad news is he was tackled in the field of play and the clock is ticking. Hurry to the line, calling medium hooks with the receivers getting to the end zone and turning for the pass. Pass is up in the direction of Bell....is it good news or bad??? GOoooOD NEWSS TOUCHDOWN PIRATES!!!!!! With the Xp, ECU wins 24-22 in dramatic fashion. Major road win over the league leading Blazers of UAB.

we had 27 rush attempts for 26 yards. Moses was ineffective at QB except for a couple series 17 of 41 for 148 yards. Martin came in off the bench when the game looked to be out of reach and spark the Pirates to victory. He was 5/9 for 110 yards and 2 TD's! Schuh with 3 pancakes, including one of the last play of the game - a key game winning block to say the least. Truax 2 sacks, Sunde 2 stuffs. We only gave us 280 total yards on defense. Thanks to Martin's heroics he end up with 285 total yards.

ON the injury front, we lose CB Russell in the game. South Carolina is next

7-3 ECU at 1-8 South Carolina

Once again we get a power conference team who has really struggled on the year. Vegas puts us at 2 point underdogs.

if the opening series is any indication, this is going to be a doozy. ECU takes the kickoff and has a couple good runs before fumbling. SC rolls to the goal line but once again our heroic defense makes a stand and they settle for a FG - but WAIT, Markham blocks it!!!!! Martin seems to be nervous making his first start (he earned it with last week's comeback win) missing his first 3 pass attempts. But then he settles down on 3rd and 20 and calmly completes a 25 yard pass to Christy as Schu flattens the pass rush. Next play a 40 yard bomb to Smith who is off to the races for a TD! As we celebrate SC gets an 86 yard KR so the defense starts with a short field once again. Once inside the 10, we stop them twice for losses and force a FG - which they make this time. Martin continues to struggle with accuracy but gets another big play strike, this time a 79 yard streak to Cash. A 3rd big play pass ended up being fumbled on the 1 yard line. SCore at half time is 14-13 lead for ECU. Our defense is getting decimated by injuries. We have a hard time playing a Nickel because we only have 5 DB's that are healthy. End result is they pass their way down the field and this time get a TD inside the 10. Suddenly we cannot make a 3rd time stop and our D is exhausted. We go into the 4th trailing 17-27. And that's where the game ends as SC is kind enough to just run out the clock.

It's a game I feel like we could have won if not for a couple breakdowns on Special Teams and defense where injuries played a big role. Martin was 9 of 26 for 243 yards and 2 TD's He missed 5 screen passes but came up with some big plays - just not enough of them. Ricot Barr had 12 tackles. Not much pressure from the D-line as Truax was held in check -- that exposed our secondary and we come up just short. Solid effort though and now we need to heal up and get ready for Wake Forest.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wake Forest

tough loss 21-3 (Wake got 1 TD, 1 Safety, and a ton of FG's. Our offense sputtered when it got to mid-field and never found rhythm. Defense played OK other than a couple big plays. It was like we went thru the motions. Truax with 2 sacks, and Blades with 1. Both teams 300 total yards offense

at 7-5, we do limp into a bowl game against 7-4 Hawaii. All conference selections will be next
