Chris Benoit [c] vs. Hugh Morrus

Nitro opens with the first defence of Chris Benoit's Television Title reign. Benoit makes his way to the ring as Schiavone welcomes us to Nitro live from historic Madison Square Garden. Benoit looks determined to prove that he is a serious prospect for the future and show Raven what he has in store at Souled Out. Benoit absolutely was in control for this match, Morrus managing to hit some offence but nowhere near enough to derail Benoit's mommentum, it was all over when Benoit locked in a Crossface forcing Morrus to tap out.

Winner: Chris Benoit by submission at 9:47

Grade: C

Alex Wright & Disco Inferno vs. Ray Traylor & Rick Martel

The exciting action on Nitro continues with tag team action. Traylor and Martel were both winless the whole of December, but they did manage to almost defeat the current tag team champions Harlem Heat in an impressive showing. Their opponents are the impromptu team of Disco Inferno & Alex Wright. These two both love to dance but struck out on the floor tonight as Traylor and Martel showed that same amazing chemistry that they showed in their loss to Harlem Heat. After isolating the Inferno, it was all over after Traylor hit a vicious Bubba Slam for the three and both men's first win since December.

Winner: Martel & Traylor by pinfall at 10:31 (Ray Traylor over Disco Inferno)

Grade: C-

Post-match Martel and Traylor grab a mic each and declare that they are going to team up. Martel says on their own they've not got it, but as a team they're unstoppable, a powerhouse, A Winning Combination. Both men like the sound of that and head to the back.

Goldberg vs. Konnan

The first of the nWo tonight was hardly an auspicious one, as Goldberg continued his way to the top. Konnan argueably provided the biggest challenge Goldberg had faced, however it wasn't to be. Goldberg never looked in danger as the commentary team singing his praises. It was all over when Goldberg hit the Spear for the win.

Winner: Goldberg by pinfall at 9:19

Grade: C

We cut backstage to the office of J.J. Dillon, he announces that not only has Bret Hart joined WCW but so has his brothers in law, Davey Boy Smith and Jim Neidhart. Neidhart isn't competing but Smith is going to get a Golden opportunity. If he defeats Meng next week on Nitro, he will become the #1 contender to the US title at Souled Out.

Rick Steiner vs. The Barbarian w/ Kevin Sullivan

Rick Steiner cut a sad figure on his way to the ring, still feeling the effects of the vicious assault by his brother last night. As he made his way to the Steiner Brothers theme even the fans were unusally quiet. Schiavone say he was talking to Rick in the back and he wasn't himself and has spoken to Scott since the incident. Barbarian was in control for the beginning absolutely dominating Rick in a way we've never seen. It looked like all hope was lost for Rick until the fans started a Steiner chant that riled Rick back into the match, he hit all sorts of his token offence as the fans really got behind him. Rick seemed to liven up as the fans continued to cheer him on and once Steiner hit his Flying Bulldog from the top rope to get the pin, the fans erupted in a chorus of cheers. Rick smiled, but it slowly faded as he heard his theme song and thought of his brother. All three on commentary agreed it was a sad day for Rick and hoped he could move on from what had happened.

Winner: Rick Steiner by pinfall at 11:45

Grade: C-

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Randy_Savage.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Elizabeth.jpg

When we return from commercial we find the camera backstage with the Macho Man. Savage is flanked by Elizabeth as he stares manically at the camera and starts cutting a promo on DDP. He says fans having been asking him non-stop why he attacked DDP after he lost to Hennig at Starrcade. The reason is he doesn't trust Page and knows he has been eyeing up Elizabeth. That's why Page has left that little skanky wife of his at home. Schiavone interjects to apologise for Savage's language. Savage says he will defend "his" Elizabeth whatever it takes and will make sure Page stays away from her anyway he can.

Grade: B+

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Bret_Hart.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Scott_Norton.jpg

Bret Hart vs. Scott Norton

Arguably the most anticipated match of the night Hart stepped in the ring for the first time, facing off against an nWo, leading commentary to speculate whether he was going to go after the nWo. Heenan says he could be working for the nWo for all we know and that's why he stared down Sting. Back to action and these two have a back and forth classic. Norton really stepped his game and pulled out all the stops to try and take down the debuting Hart. Hart meanwhile had to show the WCW fans he wasn't some reject from "up north". Norton utilized his power game, tossing around the smaller Hart. Hart responded attacking Norton's legs systemically to soften him up for the dreaded Sharp Shooter. Hart went for an all out offence on Norton, hitting his Axe Handle Elbow Drop right on Norton's knee. Hart eventually countered a suplex attempt by Norton into a small package. Norton kicks out at two, they both get to their feet and Hart hits a spinebuster on Norton, and locks in the Sharpshooter. Norton tries to crawl to the ropes but the pain is too much and he submits. The fans erupt in praise for this amazing match.

Winner: Bret Hart by submission at 13:38

Grade: B

Hart demands a mic and thanks the crowd for their support. Hart says he only wants one thing and that's the WCW World Championship. The Hitman says everyone knows he was screwed and is still the "real" World Heavyweight Champion and he deserves to get a World Title match. Hart goes to continue but is cut off by Ric Flair's music.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Ric_Flair.jpg

The fans erupt as these two legends of the ring now share the ring. Flair says he respects Bret, that he's a talented wrestler. However, just because he won a couple of belts in that "other" wrestling company doesn't mean anything. Flair won two and he doesn't even count them in his record 16 World Title reigns. Hart retorts by pointing out he beat Flair for that "worthless" belt and if he has to beat Flair to earn a WCW title match then that's what he'll do. Flair at this point goes into full on crazy mode, wooing every second and going red in the face. He says Bret is nothing but a jumped up punk and is no better than the nWo, invading and taking over the top. Flair earned his way to the top and Hart should have to do the same. Hart doesn't speak, instead motioning around his waist then drops the mic and leaves, as Schiavone questions where Bret's loyalties lie and Heenan declares he's a nWo turncoat.

Grade: A

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Hollywood_Hogan.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Kevin_Nash.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Scott_Hall.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Eric_Bischoff.jpg

The statics kicks in as we come back from commercial as the nWo key group of Hogan, Nash, Hall and Bischoff head to the ring. The fans shower them with their boos as the three walk solemnly not full of their usually swagger. Bischoff has the mic and starts on a nWo tirade. He claims that even though Starrcade didn't go to plan the nWo is far from over and just needs a reboot, a shake up, to remain ahead of WCW. He announces that Buff Bagwell is gone from the group and that others may soon follow. However, the nWo 2.0 needs some new blood too, the original trio all agree. Bischoff says it is his great pleasure to introduce the newest member of the nWo and Hollywood's personal choice of a protégé. Commentary is shocked at the idea of Hogan modelling a successor. He is the star member of a wrestling dynasty, he is a former tag team champion and a future legend of this sport. Heenan is saying it's got to be Hart and screaming at Dusty and Schiavone that he was right. The lights go off all across the arena and the fans are silent waiting for this reveal. Suddenly, a siren blasts over the audio and a red light douses the arena. In the dim light a figure can be seen heading to the ring we can't see his face but he's too big to be Bret. The lights come on and we see him clearly he looks familiar but the announcer's can't place. Schiavone lets out an audible gasp upon realizing the man in the ring is none other than Scott Steiner.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Scott_Steiner2.jpg

With his hair bleached blonde and sporting the nWo colours, many fans don't recognise him until Bischoff says his name then the boos begin. The ring is getting pelted in trash as the fans are sickened by Steiner's actions. Scott gets handed a mic and address the crowd. He tells us that he only cares about one thing and that's success. He's a genetically surperior freak and he is heading to the top now that he's ditched that waste of space brother of his. The fans are very angry at Steiner's remarks at his brother's expense. He saw him out earlier moping and he says Rick needs to man up and face the facts. The writing is on the wall and it says Rick's 5 minutes are over and he needs to go back to that *Censored*-hole in Michigan. Scott says the nWo is the only family he needs and he enjoyed and relished beating Rick into a pulp. If Rick is a man he will face Scott at Souled Out. The jeers are deafening as these people let there hatred spill over, even commentary is angry at this no good Steiner. Heenan comments he may have done a lot of despicable but even he is disgusted by Steiner.

Grade: C+

Bischoff is back on the mic and continues on his tirade about how great the nWo is as Nash and Hall nod along. Hogan gets a mic and says he's glad Eric agrees that the nWo has to move on to succeed. Easy E turns to Hogan, "I'm glad you agree Hollywood because the nWo has to move on ... but not with you." Hogan is shocked as Steiner, Nash and Hall all attack him. "Steiner isn't going to be your protégé, he is your replacement!" The assault continues as Hall and Nash both hit their powerbombs on Hogan. Hall grabs a chair while Nash holds Hogan for Steiner. Schiavone is disgusted saying their is no honour amongst thieves and Dusty claims the nWo is nothing but a pack of wild dogs and they will tear themselves apart. Heenan on the other hand is in rapture, claiming this is the smartest thing the nWo have ever done and savouring this decimation of his rival. The beatdown concludes with Steiner hitting a Steiner Screwdriver on Hogan while the rest of the nWo laughs maniaclly. Hogan is unconcious and bloodied as Hall, Nash, Bischoff and Steiner pose over his body. We head to commercial.

Diamond Dallas Page vs. Lex Luger vs. Randy Savage w/ Elizabeth vs. Scott Hall w/ Eric Bischoff

As we come back from commercial Hogan is slowly making his way to the back, no one having attempted to help him. The announcers instead begin to promote this clash to decide the first man to face Sting for his WCW World Championship. Luger receives a warm reception. Hall & Bischoff are showered in anger by the fans. DDP receives one of the biggest cheers of the night. However, when he is about halfway down to the ring he is blindsided by Savage, as Elizabeth follows at a distance. Savage rams DDP into the guardrail and this one is underway as Hall and Luger lock up in the ring. Eventually Page and Savage brawl their way to the ring and join Hall and Luger while Hall is in control. Hall and Savage start working together to take down Page. The alliance actually stays together and Schiavone says the nWo must have planned to remove the non-nWo members of the match and then fight amongst themselves. It is looking like it could come down to Hall and Savage as Savage hits the top rope elbow on Luger and Hall goes for the Outsider's Edge, however DDP counters, slips down Hall's back and Hall turns straight into a Diamond Cutter. DDP goes for the pin but Elizabeth is distracting the ref. Dallas heads over and confronts Elizabeth which catches Savage's attention he charges Page knocking him over the top rope and sending Elizabeth flying. Savage flies into a rage diving to Page on the outside and brutalizing him. He rams Page head first into the steel barricade and throws him into the crowd, as Elizabeth pleads Macho to focus on the match. In the ring Luger is on his feet and motioning for the torture rack on Hall, Bischoff is trying to distact him and is successful and gets knocked to the floor for his efforts, Hall is up and boots Luger to the gut, he's going for an Outsider's Edge. He hits it! Page and Savage are too far away in the crowd, Hall covers 1-2-3! Hall wins, The Bad Guy will face Sting at Souled Out. Hall and Bischoff celebrate as Nitro fades to black.

Winner: Scott Hall by pinfall at 14:58 over Lex Luger

Tiebreaker Q's: Who are the new debutantes?

Norton vs. Hart is the second best match I've ever done and the four way was number 5. Norton vs. Hart did a lot better than I thought it would. I picked Norton for Bret's first match cause he's a heck of a wrestler, he's a great technican, he's a jam up guy. Who are you guys to doubt El Dandy... I mean Scott Norton.

The prizes for this month's predictions are:

  • Monthly Winner gets to pick a WWF talent to jump ship to WCW. Lots of guys were angry after Montreal so it's kinda plausible someone might leave, like Brian Adams did.
  • PPV winner gets to pick either the first developmental talent (or team if relevant) to be called up or a new developmental signing.

Thanks for reading and feel free to leave any feedback :D

I generally don't do predictions for weekly shows, but I just wanted to drop you a line and say that I read this from the beginning yesterday and am really enjoying it. You gave Sting the decisive win he should've gotten in reality, avoided the stupid match between Larry Z and Bischoff, and gave Bret Hart a far more interesting debut. I like what I've read so far, and look forward to seeing where you go now that Starrcade is behind you.

The Public Enemy vs. The Striker Brothers

Saturday Night kicked off with an exciting debuting team of Canadian brothers. Tenay tells us that "The Cutting Edge" Damon Striker is the taller member of the team and his brother is "Canadian Rage" Chris Striker. These two show the high energy and gusto that WCW looks for in talent. Both men completely outpace their opponents and show a technical prowess far above their opponents level. It was all over once Damon hit a missile dropkick as Chris hit an inverted DDT. Damon got the pin and the win.

Winner: The Striker Brothers by pinfall at 9:38

Grade: E+

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Scott_Steiner2.jpg

The siren kicks in and out comes Scott Steiner, who once again receives a frosty response from the WCW faithful. He comes out with a mic and challenges his brother to man up and face him one on one. The old Steiner Brothers theme and out comes "Rick Steiner". Schiavone quickly tells us that isn't the real Rick Steiner. A scrawny guy who must barely be 120 pounds heads to the ring with a glued on fake beard and oversized protective headgear. Scott proceeds to ask Rick for a match and Rick says he's too scared off Scott complete with comedy knee wobbling. "Rick" and Scott continue this charade as the crowd begin to boo the two. The impersonator however inadvertently insults Scott saying he's a brawny guy and brawn always beats brains. Scott takes exception to the suggestion he's just a muscle head and grabs the impersonator by the throat and throttles him. The commentary are shocked and disgusted by his actions and he hits the Steiner Screwdriver on the young man nearly snapping his neck. Scott walks to the back eyes glazed over. Tenay says Steiner is clearly losing his mind and is becoming unhinged.

Jushin Liger vs. Juventud Guerrera

The second debut of the night, the Japanese Superstar Jushin Thunder Liger returns to WCW. The high-flying innovator however wasn't going to have an easy debut facing Juventud Guerrera's amazing Lucha offence. Tenay shined in this match as he showed his knowledge of Liger's career and unique offence. Liger eventually wins after countering an attempted Springboard Hurracanrana into a brutal Liger Bomb for the three count.

Winner: Jushin Liger by pinfall at 13:05

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Chris_Benoit.jpg

We see Chris Benoit backstage as he walks down a hallway, with the TV Title in his hands. Suddenly the lights in the corridor turn off and a commotion can be heard and Benoit can be hear in pain. Human flesh hitting concrete and steel echoes down the corridor once the lights return the camera man is alone in the corridor with Benoit. Benoit is unconscious and bloodied lying on the floor. There is no sign of his attacker.

La Parka & Ultimo Dragon vs. Mortis & Wrath

Two monstrous heels took on two of the top crusierweights in WCW in this match. However strength overcame speed as commentary tried to answer the question that had plagued the crusierweights since day one. Can the crusierweights tangle with the heavyweights? Tenay seemed to think so pointing out Guerrero and Malenko were both US Champion. Heenan says that it proves nothing and he need a cruiserweight to win the big gold belt before he'll believe. In the ring, it was a complete mismatch. Mortis and Wrath overpowered Parka & Dragon. Mortis in particular showed why he is so feared and eventually won following a brutal Flatliner.

Winner: Mortis & Wrath by pinfall at 10:13 (Mortis over Ultimo Dragon)

Grade: D+

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Curt_Hennig.jpg

We cut backstage to the US Champion, flanked as always by Rick Rude. Hennig says he is looking forward to beating Smith at Souled Out, that's if Meng doesn't beat him first. Hennig says that Smith and he are alike but very different. Both are in great wrestling dynasties but only one had to marry his way in. Hennig says Smith is relying on his brother-in-laws accomplishments to earn a spot and Hennig hopes to beat some respect to him the nWo's backyard.

Dean Malenko vs. Steven Regal

Two of the best technicians in the world squared off here. Regal took the early advantage using every cheap trick in the book to try and defeat Malenko. The Iceman wasn't having any of it and Malenko fought back with everything in his arsenal of a 1,000 holds. Regal had been targeting Malenko's limbs and it shows now as Malenko struggles to capitalize, collapsing as he attempted to apply a Texas Cloverleaf. Regal gets up and decks Malenko with a single punch. Schiavone claims Regal had something in his hand while Heenan says he didn't see anything. Regal after "adjusting his trunks" thens locks in his modified STF, the Regal Strech. The referee asks Malenko and seeing Malenko is unconcious at declares Regal wins by submission. The replay shows Regal had something metal on his knuckles when he punched Malenko. Schiavone and Tenay claim it was brass knuckles, while Heenan says he can't see anything.

Winner: Steven Regal by submission at 13:58

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Chris_Jericho.jpg

We cut to the interview stage backstage and to the young Chris Jericho. Jericho talks about how he should be facing Guerrero at Souled Out instead of Misterio. He says that he has Ultimo Dragon beat and Rey stole his win. However, Jericho isn't out here to complain. Jericho says that match was a wakeup call. He's held the cruiserweight title twice and now its time to move on. He promises to do what no one has done before and successfully transition to the heavyweights. Jericho issues a warning to Benoit, Hennig, Harlem Heat and even Sting. Saying though he respects most of them, he will beat them and take their titles. Jericho promises that he will become the first ever athlete to win every title in WCW. The fans cheer after this and Jericho has to wait for them to calm. Jericho says this path to the top begins tonight against Konnan and Jericho is going straight through Konnan all the way to the top.

Grade: C

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Chris_Jericho.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Konnan.jpg

Chris Jericho vs. Konnan

Jericho received a warm reception from the WCW audience as Tenay claimed that if anyone can head to the top from the cruiserweights its Jericho. Jericho instantly goes on the offence against Konnan and The Lionheart shows exactly why his statements weren't empty. Taking the early advantage Jericho uses high-flying offence to outpace Konnan. The nWo member is being outclassed until countering an attempted lionsault with his knees allows him to fight back. Still feeling the effects of Jericho's leg attacks, Konnan is unable to capitalize allowing Jericho back into the match after countering a Powerbomb attempt into a seated senton. Jericho remains in control and locks in his dreaded Lion Tamer and Konnan has no chance to submit. Jericho's promises of a bigger future don't look quite so boastful now. He looked impressive today.

Winner: Chris Jericho by submission at 10:52

Tenay says we have footage from earlier in the night. Misterio was taking part in a photo shoot for the newest issue of WCW Magazine, when he was brutually attacked by Eddy Guerrero. Guerrero is heard shouting in Spanish at Rey as he rams him into the set and the camera equipment. Guerrero finishes his assault by taking a picture of Rey as he lies on the floor. Tenay and Schiavone say the rivalry between these two goes back a long way and may be coming to the boil again.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Raven.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Rick_Steiner.jpg

Raven vs. Rick Steiner

Saturday Night's main event saw the diabolical mastermind Raven trying to give Benoit something to fear at Souled Out. Rick Steiner meanwhile was visibly upset following his brother's appearance at the opening of the show. These two went at it with Rick eventually gaining the upperhand, using his power advantage to overpower the sinister Raven. Schiavone says he believes Raven was responsible for the attack on Chris Benoit tonight. Heenan defends Raven saying that they didn't see anyone, maybe Benoit fell over. Tenay and Schiavone argue with Brain as the match continues. Steiner is still in control until Raven manages to counter an attempted neckbreaker into a small package. Steiner kicks out at two and Raven keeps control. Steiner however is refusing to give up as these fans cheer him on. A short arm clothesline decks Raven and Rick signals its over. He turns and sees his brother Scott on the apron. Scott is yelling at Rick "Fight me, Fight me!" Rick can be seen shaking his head saying no. Raven is now on his feet behind Rick, Scott drops to the floor and leaves as Rick turns into a Piledriver by Raven. A three count later and Rick Steiner loses again.

Winner: Raven by pinfall at 14:08

GCW Press Release

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Logos/GCW.jpg

WCW is proud to announce the opening of Georgia Championship Wrestling, based in Atlanta as WCW's new feeder league.

Currently on the Roster

Bubba Ray Dudley & D-Von Dudley - Arguably the two biggest names in GCW they shouldn't be there for long. Brought in to help the construction of a new & improved tag team division. Look to be everything the Public Enemy could have been.

Caprice Coleman - This young man has a great deal of potential as a cruiserweight of tomorrow. Still very young at 20, he could be a real one for the future.

Charlie & Russ Haas - These two have legitimate credentials and a raw technical prowess that could help them become one of the best tag teams in WCW. Another part of the planned tag team revival.

C.W. Anderson - He's an Anderson. An enforcer through and through, C.W. has a lot of potential and could be a solid midcarder for the future.

Doug Williams - One of the top young British talents today. Williams is 25 years old and shows the classically skilled technical abilities one expects from a Brit. The first of many talents from out with North America who will be heading to Georgia.

Ekmo & Kimo - The Impressive Island Boyz are both proud members of the Anoa'i wrestling dynasty. Both men, despite their size, are incredibly agile and are very well rounded.

Evan Karagias - Pre-existing WCW talent, creative are considering a new direction for young Karagias.

Jacqueline Moore - Pre-existing WCW talent, could be a useful valet once her skills are developed.

Joey Abs - Another big powerhouse, potential to be a decent Norton-esque midcarder in the future.

Joey Matthews - Another cruiserweight signing, Matthews again has a lot of potential for the future.

Johnny Swinger - The wrestler who was number 2 on the hidden gems at the start of the game. (Damon Striker being #1) This young man has a lot of potential to be a top level heel. Has been given a "Ravishing" Rick Rude style persona.

Ron Killings - This young man has a lot to offer. Has a lot of charisma, a distinct look and a distinct skill (I mean where are we gonna find another wreslter who can rap?)

Shane Helms & Shannon Moore - These two come straight from the Carolinas. They are both young high-flyers and show a lot of potential. Rumoured to be paired up possibly with Karagias or Matthews in the mix.

Steve Corino - A true old school grappler, Corino wrestles like he just came from a NWA event in the 80's. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Super Nova - A last minute signing Nova has amazing potential, a rare comedic talent who could be used seriously too. This youngster already has a good high-flying offence. Should be one to watch.

Trainers

Afa - One of the patriachs of the Anoa'i dynasty, he is a well rounded trainer and should help mould our next generation.

Jerry Jarrett - An old hand from Memphis, who knows more than his fair share about the business. Should serve well as the lead trainer.

Jimmy Hart - A pre-exsisting talent, will definitely help develop those talking skills.

Lanny Poffo - A damn fine wrestler. A good high flyer who should help improve our young cruiserweights

Ricky Steamboat - One of the Greatest ever to be associated with WCW, his phenomenal skills will help shape this new generation into top competitors.

Also of note: Heartland Wresling Alliance opened it's doors this month, and the Omega promotion is locking unlikely to survive for much longer. Rumours persist that WCW want to buy it solely to acquire some of it's talent.

Thanks man. I'm a big fan of your 1987 diary, which I'm slowly trying to catch up on. Its one of the best I've read and I'm glad your enjoying mine :D

Though Booker T shows he's no pushover working on Misterio's legs to neutralise his high-flying offence. The two have a very even match and both men but particularly Booker T are being discussed as potential future all-time greats. Booker shows off his hard-hitting street fighter style he has employed recently, which combined with his agility makes him a very complete package. Misterio is no pushover however using his patented lucha libre offence he fought back and had Booker on the ropes. However a stray hurracanrana clipped referee Teddy Long and knocked him to the mat, and Rey was assaulted by his Souled Out opponent. Eddy Guerrero beat down his opponent shouting in Rey's face as he left. Schiavone says if Jericho can pick up the win here he will shoot straight up the rankings. Lion Heart goes straight on the offensive, catching Hennig by suprise. Jericho dominates the early going hitting offence reminiscent of his childhood hero Ricky Steamboat. Hennig rolls outside to discuss with Rude as these fans are really getting behind Jericho. The young man from Winnipeg dives out of the ring onto the two nWo members. Throwing Hennig into the ring he attempts a Lionsault but only gets a two count. Hennig counters attempts an attempted Tornado DDT into an Alabama Slam. Hennig is in control much to the fans dislike. Hennig throws Jericho to the outside were Rude beats him down, finishing with ramming Jericho headfirst into the post. Rolling Jericho into the ring, Hennig pins, two count. Hennig and Rude are shocked and Hennig goes on an all out offensive. Jericho is kicking out of everything he has thrown at him. Hennig hits the Hennig-Plex, he bridges. 2.9! Hennig is in shock, the crowd are fully behind Jericho sensing this young man could be about to begin his road to the top. Jericho rolls up a stunned Hennig, 1 ... 2 .... Kick out. Jericho continues his offence and fans are getting behind him. Schiavone, Dusty and Heenan are for once in agreement as they give up any illusion of neutrality as they will Jericho on. Jericho is fighting with all he's got, eager to show he has what it takes. He's fighting back as the crowd cheer him on. Chris fights as hard as he can but Hennig is in control. Hennig has to resort to straight cheating but even that can't tame the Lionheart. Hennig has to throw him to Rude who hits a Rude Awakening! He tosses Jericho to Hennig who hits a second Hennig-Plex and get the pin with feet on the ropes. Hennig wins, but Jericho showed what he can do and why he is a star in the making. La Parka vs. Lance Storm

The crowd and the commentary team were intrigued to see the young Storm in action. Storm starts on the offence against Parka, going all out to try impress on his debut. Parka attempts to comeback after dodging a Superkick from Storm and hitting a Spinning Heel Kick. The two continue to battle with no man having the upperhand until Storm succeeds in hitting a superkick on Parka. He then locks in a single legged Boston Crab which Schiavone tells us he calls the Canadian Maple Leaf. Parka is in the middle of the ring and has no choice but to submit. A successful debut for the young Canadian.

Winner: Lance Storm by submission at 8:54

Chavo Guerrero Jnr. vs. Rey Misterio Jnr.

Nitro continues with a clash between two luchadores from proud wrestling dynasties. Guerrero had the strength advantage for once in his career and attempted to capitalise throwing around the smaller Misterio. However, Misterio showed exactly why he is considered the best cruiseweight in the world. Dazzling the crowd with lots of inventive offence Mysterio eventually picked up the win with his trademark Springboard Hurracanrana.

Winner: Rey Misterio Jnr. by pinfall at 8:09

We return from commercial, Schiavone informs us that WCW has acquired footage of a an incident backstage. Cut to a shaky camera man running up to the scene of a vicious assault Harlem Heat are absolutely brutalizing the Barbarian. The two culminate this vicious assault with Booker T hitting an axekick into a chair held by Stevie which drives it into the Barbarian's skull. As the Tongan lays limp on the floor Harlem Heat get in the cameraman's face and generally badmouth any future opponents. Schiavone & Dusty call Harlem Heat's action disgusting, Heenan however seems to have taken a shine to them applauding their great strategy.

Alex Wright vs. Chris Benoit [c]

Das Wunderkind was looking to regain the championship he held less than 5 months ago. Benoit meanwhile was determined to make sure that Raven got a message for Souled Out. This match started out to close to call, the two trading moves back and forth. The championship looked like it would be heading to Germany on several occasions but Benoit kept fighting back. After an entertaining series of pins and counter-pins Benoit eventually countered an attempted backslide into a Dragon Suplex for the three count and another successful defence.

Winner: Chris Benoit by pinfall at 13:04

Scott Steiner vs. Ultimo Dragon

Schiavone says this is going to be a clash of styles and he is right. The Japanese sensation may be a great cruiserweight but he couldn't overvome the raw power of the newest nWo member. Steiner demolished Dragon after countering a cross cody into a back breaker. He continued to beat up Dragon attacking the back and legs of the Dragon, eventually applying a brutal looking submission. He wraps one of Dragon's legs around his neck, pulling the knee across the back of his neck. He holds Dragon off the ground by his leg and Dragon can be heard howling in agony, he submits and Steiner picks up the win. Commentary are discussing this new submission of Steiner's with Heenan suggesting the Scott Lock as a potential name.

Winner: Scott Steiner by submission at 6:49

Scott Steiner once again demands a mic and demands that Rick face him at Souled Out. This time Rick comes out to the ring with a mic in hand. Is he going to accept the challenge? Rick opens his mouth about to speak when Scott cuts him off. Big Poppa Pump, asks Rick if he's a man and has the guts to face him. He boasts about being the favourite child, calling Rick an "accident" Rick is about to speak again but instead chooses a more aggressive approach he lunges at his brother fist flying. Scott is taken completely by surprise and fall victim to Rick's flurry of assault. Scott bales from the ring, a look of concern on his face. Rick grabs the microphone and says one word. "Yes" The crowd are excited and commentary are putting over for the first time ever it's Steiner vs. Steiner available only on PPV.

We cut to the backstage interview area and the Nature Boy himself. Flair is going over his issues with Bret. He says while he knows Bret is one of the best wrestlers in the world, he has yet to prove it on the biggest stage of all, WCW. Flair says everyone in WCW earned their way and Hart is no different. Now what happened "elsewhere" may have been wrong, but that doesn't mean he should get special treatment. Flair never got special treatment after he broke his back. He says he is giving Hart a truly great opportunity the chance to prove he is one of the best and to earn these fans respect.

Diamond Dallas Page & The Giant vs. Kevin Nash & Randy Savage w/ Elizabeth

Four of the biggest names in the world and you can only see them here in WCW, Schiavone reminds us. This match sees two of the many rivalries in the WCW vs. nWo battle square off. Dallas Page starts off against Savage, who goes on an all out offensive, the two battle back and forth for a while with Savage being particularly brutal trying to hurt or injure DDP. Eventually, they manage to switch out to their partners and Giant and Nash try and out giant each other. The nWo members get the upperhand taking advantage of the Giant's inexperience to isolate him. Eventually however his size is too much for Nash whose attempted Jack-knife is countered into an Alabama Slam. Giant struggles to Page who gets the hot tag. He charges at Macho, sending him flying off the apron. Savage clips Elizabeth on his way down and both end up on the floor. Nash gets up in time for a Diamond Cutter and the three count

Winner: DDP & The Giant by pinfall at 17:58 (DDP over Nash)

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Scott_Hall.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Scott_Steiner2.jpg

Page and Nash begin to celebrate but Hall & Steiner run out and attack the two. Savage gets back in the ring and tries to choke out DDP while screaming about hurting Elizabeth. Nash is helped up his cohorts and the group continue their assault on the helpless Page & Giant while commentary ask for someone to help.

Someone heard. The lights go out and the single spotlight is on the rafters. It's Sting!

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Sting.jpg

He slowly rappels to the ring with eyes fixed solely on Hall. Bat in hand, Sting points at Hall staring unblinkingly at the Bad Guy. The rest of the nWo attempt to jump Sting but he battles them off while Hall flees. WCW Security swarms the ring and the nWo take advantage and flee leaving Sting with Page & The Giant.

Bret Hart vs. Curt Hennig w/ Rick Rude

We return from commercial to Nitro's main event the hottest star in the world Bret Hart faces his second nWo member, going one on one with a fellow second generation star. These two had an early contender for match of the year. Hart and Hennig had a great technical battle with neither man appearing especially dominant. Hart was targeting Hennig's legs obviously aiming for a Sharpshooter, Hennig was focused solely on the Hitman's head. The crowd were very keen on seeing these two face off and let the wrestlers now it. Hennig eventually gained the upperhand thanks to a leg pull by Rude. The US Champion however was left in shock when Hart kicked out of the Hennig-plex at 2.99999. The fans were deafening at his point. Hennig attempted a second Hennig-plex however Hart grabbed Hennig's legs and took him down. He locked in the Sharpshooter. Hennig is clawing at the mat to get the ropes while Rude yells encouragement to Hennig. He has to tap though and Hart is once again victorious. Commentary out right call this the match of the night, may be the match of the year.

Winner: Bret Hart by submission at 17:18
