Live from The United Centre, Chicago, Illinois

Attendance: 18,301

Announce Team

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Bret_Hart.jpg

Nitro opens on a high note as Bret Hart enters the ring still clearly feeling the effects of his battle last night with Ric Flair. Hart says he wishes that they had been able to finish their match last night. Hart says he is far from done with Flair and hopefully next time they meet it will be for the World Title. However, Hart doesn't have an opponent for Superbrawl... and that is why he is challenging Scott Hall to face him one on one without his mangy pack of dogs at his feet. He leaves as the commentary team hype up a potential Hart vs. Hall match.

Grade: A

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Konnan.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Rey_Mysterio.jpg

Konnan vs. Rey Misterio Jnr.

The high-flying skills of Misterio were too much for Konnan to handle. The smaller Misterio outsped the larger nWo member fighting him back until he was finally able to pick up the win following a beautiful Springboard Hurracanrana.

Winner: Rey Misterio by pinfall at 6:51

Grade: C-

However, following Rey's victory, he is viciously blindsided by reigning Cruiserweight Champion Eddy Guerrero.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Eddy_Guerrero.jpg

The Champion continues the assault until Rey is reduced to a slumped heap. Eddy stands above and boasts over the man who nearly beat him last night.

Grade: D

#1 Contendership to the WCW Tag Team Championship

Faces of Fear w/ Kevin Sullivan vs. Winning Combination

The same two teams met last month to attempt to a championship match but Harlem Heat interfered causing a no contest. This time that won't be a problem as this time as first announced at WCW.com, "Use AOL Keyword: WCW!" pipes in Schiavone, if Harlem Heat interfere they will be stripped of the titles. So we instead get a chance to see who would have won that match and a clear favourite emerges in the form of the Winning Combination. The two men show that rare synergy that appears in seemingly thrown together teams. A Sidewalk Slam and Elbow Drop combo on the Barbarian allows Martel to get the three and set up Harlem Heat vs. Winning Combination at Superbrawl VIII.

Winner: Winning Combination by pinfall at 9:27 (Martel over the Barbarian)

Grade: C-

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Gene_Okerlund.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Booker_T.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Stevie_Ray.jpg

We cut backstage to Gene Okerlund who is backstage outside Harlem Heat's lockeroom. He tries to get the champs opinion on the new number 1 contenders but is caught off by Booker T. He mocks Okerlund's dress sense and says tonight he has bigger things on his mind. Defeating the WCW World Champion. Stevie Ray says he knows Booker T will do it tonight, 'cause Harlem Heat is the ONLY Winning Combination in WCW. Booker T follows up by yelling "Sucka!!!" at Gene as the door slams in Okerlund's face. He throws back to the announcers.

Grade: C

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Eddy_Guerrero.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Jushin_Liger.jpg

Eddy Guerrero vs. Jushin Liger

The International flair of the Cruiserweight division was on show here. The two stars battled back and forth, with neither man gaining the upper hand. However, after a missed attempt at a Springboard Tornado DDT by Jushin Liger, Eddy eventually picked up the win with a Frog Splash and a pin.

Winner: Eddy Guerrero by pinfall at 6:44

Grade: C

WCW World Television Championship

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Dean_Malenko.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Steven_Regal.jpg

Dean Malenko vs. Steven Regal [c]

Steven Regal and Dean Malenko are two of the most skilled technicians in WCW and has a great technical wrestling match. Both men traded holds with no man really gaining an upperhand, that is until Regal managed a schoolboy pin on Malenko. Regal quickly placed his feet on the ropes to give himself the unfair advantage and retain his Television Title.

Winner: Steven Regal by pinfall at 8:27

Grade: C

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Curt_Hennig.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Rick_Rude.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Gene_Okerlund.jpg

We cut backstage to Curt Hennig, flanked as always by Rick Rude, with Gene Okerlund. Okerlund asks Hennig about his status with the rest of the nWo as the only champion in the group. If he loses the US title will the group shatter. Hennig scoffs at the question saying it is not an issue as Steiner isn't going to win. The Superior Steiner is already nWo 4 Life.

Grade: D+

WCW United States Championship

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Belts/WCW_US.jpg

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Curt_Hennig.jpg w/ http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Rick_Rude.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Rick_Steiner.jpg

Curt Hennig [c] w/ Rick Rude vs. Rick Steiner

Curt Hennig was able to retain his US title tonight but not without a little help. As the match progressed in the early going it looked like Rick Steiner would leave Chicago with a new title to add to his trophy haul. However, the man who helped win so many of his accomplishments prevented victory tonight. As Rude distracted the referee Scott Steiner ran interference for Hennig

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Scott_Steiner.jpg

The self-proclaimed "Superior Steiner" flattened his brother with a Steiner Screwdriver before throwing him to Curt who hit a Hennig-Plex and covered Rick for the three. As Rick protested to the referee, the three nWo members quickly fled from the ring and celebrated only when a safe distance from The Dog Faced Gremlin.

Winner: Curt Hennig by pinfall at 12:30

Grade: C+

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Randy_Savage.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Elizabeth.jpg

Randy Savage is backstage and has a microphone. He talks about his brutal assault on DDP last night and how he enjoyed brutalizing the perverted Page while Elizabeth smiles at his side. He only wishes he could do it again. However, Page is too injured and probably will have to retire. The fans are angered by Savage's disrespect for Page and Savage promises that Luger's little act of bravery last night won't earn him any sympathy tonight.

Grade: B+

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Lex_Luger.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Randy_Savage.jpg w/ http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Elizabeth.jpg

Lex Luger vs. Randy Savage w/ Elizabeth

The Lex Express has not been in the best of shape as of late falling easily to several losses. Tonight, he was looking to get back on track. The two had a fairly even match to begin with until eventually Savage gained the upper hand with a little bit of good old fashioned nWo foul play. Savage threw Luger into a corner before Randy Anderson had a chance to move. He was knocked out cold. Savage took advantage going for a chair and slid it into the ring. Climbing back into the ring Savage was shocked to be grabbed from behind and given a DIAMOND CUTTER!!!

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/DDP.jpg

It's DDP. The Fan Favourite does the Diamond Cutter symbol and then leaves the arena through the crowd as fans swarm around him. All three men are down. Until Luger and the ref get to their feet Luger heads over to pick up Savage and gets cracked with a chair shot by Savage. The ref sees and calls for the bell and Luger inadvertently picks up a win. Savage is irate and threatens the official before leaving the ring.

Winner: Lex Luger by DQ at 12:30

Grade: B+

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Scott_Hall.jpg

We cut to static once back from commercial, and Scott Hall's grinning visage fills the screen. He says is Bret wants a match then as the leader of the nWo, he will be happy to accept. Hall says he should be World Champion right now and beating the invading Hart will help him get what he wants then so be it. That being said if Bret wants to join, Hall would be happy to help...

Grade: C-

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Ric_Flair.jpg

Another promo, this time by the "Nature Boy". Amidst a flurry of Woos, Boys and references to Space Mountain, Flair makes clear one thing. He and Sting have a long and storied history together. And Flair and Sting will go at it ONE... MORE.. TIME. This confrontation may be Flair's last chance to get a World Title again and he doesn't care what he has to do to get it.

Grade: A

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Booker_T.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Sting.jpg

Booker T vs. Sting

Even though this is a non-title match a win for one half of Harlem Heat would be a huge deal for the junior brother. Booker T attacked Sting like a man possessed, keen to prove he belonged at this level. However, despite a strong showing from the Harlem native, he was no match for Sting. Despite a couple of close roll-ups Sting was to strong and finished off T by dodging a Harlem Hangover then hitting a Scorpion Death Drop. Booker T showed us tonight why he is one to watch in this sport.

Winner: Sting by pinfall at 14:49

Grade: B

NEWS

  • Sick Boy has made such an impression on Dean Malenko that the Man of 1,000 holds has taken him under his wing as a protege.
  • Chris Adams nearly started a fight with Rocco Rock backstage. Dutch Mantell intervened and got both men calmed down and no ill will was felt as a result.
  • Both Syxx and Steven Regal have been offered a renewal of their WCW contracts. Regal had been longer terms than Syxx as WCW wishes to see how Syxx's performance is affected after his neck injury.

As always thanks for reading, I would've updated this sooner but I haven't had internet access for over a month. However, it does mean I'm quite far ahead in game, so most of it will be written up soon. Sorry for the delay, and hope you guys enjoy it :D

Brian Adams w/ Raven vs. The Booty Man

A painfully one-sided match. The Booty Man's High Knee was no match for Adams raw power. The only thing of note is Raven's goading on of Adams to inflict more damage on the Booty Man, which lead to a longer match until Adams finished off the Booty Man with a brutal chokeslam.

Winner: Brian Adams by pinfall at 5:24

Grade: D

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Bobby_Eaton.jpg

We cut backstage to a surprising and rare Earl Robert Eaton promo. However, gone are Eaton's pretence of British sophistication & grandeur. In its place is an Angry Alabaman. Eaton goes over his history as one half of the greatest tag team of all time. He is a 21 year veteran. Yet he never got his chance and now a bunch of young punks are coming into this company trying to force him out and leapfrog him. Eaton says he won't be a pushover and he is going to send a message tonight against Prince Iakuea.

Grade: E+ (Eaton switches to a Bitter Veteran gimmick which gets a B- rating)

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Bobby_Eaton.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Prince_Iakuea.jpg

Bobby Eaton vs. Prince Iakuea

Bobby Eaton talked a big game before this match and in this match showed he meant business. Iakuea was easily outclassed by the grizzled veteran Eaton. After Eaton hit a picture perfect Alabama Jam it was all over. Bobby Eaton is Back.

Winner: Bobby Eaton by pinfall at 7:10

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Alex_Wright.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Disco_Inferno.jpg

We get a little self hype from the Disco Inferno and Alex Wright, collectively known as the Boogie Knights. Disco's dance puns are numerous and bad while Wright dances not really focusing on the promo.

Grade: D-

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Alex_Wright.jpg & http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Disco_Inferno.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Ernest_Miller.jpg & http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Glacier.jpg

Boogie Knights vs. Ernest Miller & Glacier

The Wunderkind and The Disco King were surprisingly effective as a team given that these two were battling over the TV title just over 4 months ago. However, their teamwork failed to win over the crowd who clearly didn't care for the amazing dance skills of either man. In the end the match was won by Alex Wright rolling up Glacier for the win.

Winner: Boogie Knights by pinfall at 7:27 (Alex Wright over Glacier)

Grade: D+

Chavo Guerrero Jnr. vs. Chris Benoit

The Rabid Wolverine showed exactly why he is regarded as one of the top technicians in the world today. He put on a technical master class here countering most of Chavo's offence and uses rapid sequences to defeat the youngest member of the Guerrero clan, culminating in a beautiful Dragon Suplex.

Winner: Chris Benoit by pinfall at 11:48

Grade: C

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/JJ_Dillon.jpg

J.J. Dillon joins us from his office to announce that the WCW Championship Committee has determined that because of Harlem Heat's interference in the #1 contendership match for the Tag Team Title in January, they should be penalized. As such next week in the Main Event of Saturday Night, Harlem Heat will have to face the team of Benoit & Malenko for the WCW Tag Team Titles. The winner will then face the Winning Combination at Superbrawl VIII.

Juventud Guerrera vs. Rey Misterio Jnr.

In this high-flying battle Mysterio managed to come out on top. Both men traded an array of leaps and counters flabbergasting the commentary team excluding Tenay. Misterio eventually got the win with a beautiful Spirngboard Hurracanrana to get the pin.

Winner: Rey Misterio Jnr. by pinfall at 7:11

We cut to backstage as we see footage of Davey Boy Smith giving an interview to The Daily Sun of his native England discussing his recent move to WCW. However, he is blindsided by Curt Hennig who decks him with the United States Championship. Hennig poses with the title over Smith's battered body. Its clear the issues between these two are far from over.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Goldberg.jpg

A video plays hyping this exciting rookie in Bill Goldberg, it showcases his 13 previous wins against the likes of Buff Bagwell, Konnan, Steve McMichael and Road Block (They can't all be impressive). This really pumps the crowd who sense that big things may come from this young rookie.

Grade: B-

Goldberg vs. The Barbarian

The young rookie easily defeated the veteran Barbarian. A pure showcase for Goldberg he concluded his victory with a Spear to get the three. 14-0

Winner: Goldberg by pinfall at 6:35

Grade: C-

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Raven.jpg

We cut backstage to a dark grimy corner backstage to Raven. He cuts a promo on Benoit promising that the next time they clash will be the final time. Raven promises victory and that Benoit will either submit to his leadership or perish at the hands of his Flock. Quote the Raven, Nevermore.

Eddy Guerrero vs. Ultimo Dragon

The Cruiserweight Champion was in action next and had a hard fought battle with Ultimo Dragon. Despite the Dragon's best efforts he couldn't win. However, the cruiserweight champion had to resort to underhanded tactics to win, pinning Dragon with a roll up while holding the ropes for leverage.

Winner: Eddy Guerrero by pinfall at 6:38

Grade: C

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Kevin_Nash.jpg

We cut to black and white to Kevin Nash. Nash talks up the history between the two of them and says they should have one more match to show who the current top Giant is in WCW. Peppered with personal insults Nash mocks everything from the Giant's family to his ring attire. Nash then took a suprisingly serious tone to say that one thing is certain when these two collide again, only one will survive and that man is Kevin Nash.

Grade: B+

Booker T vs. Ray Traylor

Booker T was clearly agitated after learning Harlem Heat will have to defend their titles next week and was seeking to vent his anger on Ray Traylor. The two men intially had a fairly even match however in the end only one man looked likelgy to win. Booker T once again showed a great deal of skill and athleticism in his match with Traylor finishing him off with a Harlem Hangover for the three.

Winner: Booker T by pinfall at 11:51

Ugh can't believe I missed predicting on Saturday Night. I'll do Nitro right now so I can make sure it's done :)

Bret Hart vs. Kevin Nash

Comment: I'm going draw. I cannot see either of these guys laying down for the other.

Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair

Comment: A good rule of thumb is that if it's someone huge from the past in the WWF, Flair will job to them.

Curt Hennig vs. Lex Luger

Comment: I went back and forth on this one, decided to go with Curt because his talent can be pushed well, whereas Luger should be either on the downside of his career or at least putting people over.

#1 Contender to the Cruiserweight Championship @ Superbrawl VIII

Dean Malenko vs. Rey Misterio Jnr.

Comment: Rey vs Eddy should be a very good match.

WCW World Television Championship

Steven Regal [c] vs. Ultimo Dragon

Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho vs. Raven's Flock w/ Raven

We open Nitro from the Great White North with two of the top Canadians in wrestling today squaring off with the villainous Adams & Saturn. However, the home town advantage wasn't enough to overcome the influence of Raven on his followers. The two men showed great synergy for two men who have never teamed with Dusty Rhodes suggesting Raven's brainwashing made them the same person on the inside. In the end Raven still had to help as he hit an Evenflow DDT on Benoit while Saturn distracted Charles Robinson, Adams then hit a chokeslam on Benoit to finish this match and earn the victory for the Flock.

Winner: Raven's Flock by pinfall at 10:24 (Brian Adams over Chris Benoit)

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Booker_T.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Stevie_Ray.jpg

We cut to backstage to Harlem Heat. They are waxing lyrical about the Winning Combination. Claiming Traylor & Martel's success as a team is a fluke, Booker T says that their run of good luck will soon be broken by the 8-time Tag Team Champions. Stevie says Harlem Heat earned their success whereas Traylor and Martel haven't accomplished anything in WCW despite being handed lots of opportunities. "Come Superbrawl VIII" promises Booker T "the Winning Combination will be broken and beaten by Harlem Heat. Can You Dig That, Sucka?"

Steven Regal [c] vs. Ultimo Dragon

This match was a very decent in ring contest with both men trading the advantage back and forth. Neither man gaining a real upper hand, however in the end Regal was able to retain his championship with a beautiful countered lariat into a tiger bomb, allowing the Englishman to pick up the win.

Winner: Steven Regal by pinfall at 9:15 Regal's 3rd successful defence

We cut backstage to "Macho Man" Randy Savage flanked as always by Elizabeth talking to Mean Gene. Macho Man informs us that he isn't surprised that DDP attacked him last week. He says he's a coward as well as a degenerate. As Mean Gene protests Savage talks over him. Savage says he is glad he injured Page at Souled Out, relishing the moment he drove his elbow straight into Page's perverted heart shattering his sternum. Mean Gene looks disgusted by Savage's satisfaction at hurting a fellow wrestler. Savage says the job isn't done and as long as DDP is alive, Savage will be waiting for him and ready to finish him off. Whether it's in the ring, in a cage or in an alley Savage will end DDP's career. DIG IT!

Dean Malenko vs. Rey Misterio Jnr.

An interesting clash between two of the most successful Cruiserweights of all time. Malenko holds the record for most title reigns at 3, Misterio has 1 less. These two had a solid back and forth encounter both men showing how much this opportunity means to them. This match keeps competitive until the final seconds. After sequences of fall and near fall, Misterio counters a powerbomb sliding onto the ropes and hitting Malenko with a Springboard Hurracanrana as he turns and rolling him up for the three. Misterio is going to get a chance to win the title from the man who beat him for it at Superbrawl VIII.

Winner: Rey Misterio Jnr. by pinfall at 17:50

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/The_Giant.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Kevin_Nash.jpg

We return from commercial to The Giant standing in the ring microphone in hand. He cuts a shouty "promo" on Nash. "NASH! YOU! AND! ME! ... ONE! MORE! TIME!" bellows the Giant. This brings out "Big Sexy" who has a microphone in his hand. Nash says he accepts the Giant's challenge and suggests that at Superbrawl VIII that the true "Giant" of WCW will be crowned once and for all. The Giant roars into the microphone as Nash swaggers offstage.

Curt Hennig w/ Rick Rude vs. Lex Luger

The US Champion had a chance to show he is a serious threat by beating one of the most decorated wrestlers in WCW History. Hennig really stepped up his game showing why he is one of the cornerstones of the nWo. He battled back and forth with Luger. Escaping a Torture Rack (with a little help from Rick Rude), Hennig won with a perfectly executed Hennig Plex. After the three both Hennig and Rude celebrated wildly.

Winner: Curt Hennig by pinfall at 11:39

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Davey_Boy_Smith.jpg

While Hennig is still celebrating what could be the biggest win of his WCW career, he is blindsided by Davey Boy Smith. It appears that while Hennig's career is on the rise, he still has a Bulldog to deal with.

Randy Savage w/ Elizabeth vs. Ric Flair

Two of the biggest names in wrestling history faced off here, in a damn good match. Both men fought back and forth, each having something to prove. Savage wanting to send a message to DDP and Flair trying to send one to Sting. The two men have a tightly fought battle that either man could have won. Savage looked like he may have won when he accidentally decked the ref and hit an elbow drop on Ric Flair.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/DDP.jpg

However, he was quickly cut off by DDP who runs in from the crowd. Diamond Cutter! Savage is out and Page leaves the ring. Flair pins the prone Savage and gets the three. For the second time in two weeks, DDP has cost Randy Savage a match on Nitro.

Winner: Ric Flair by pinfall at 11:46

Grade: B-

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Scott_Hall.jpg

We cut to the black and white monochrome of the nWo. Scott Hall cuts a promo on Bret Hart. Hall says that as Brat Hart has refused their generous offer to join the nWo and now he will pay. Hall promises that as the leader of the nWo that he will win and hand Hart his first loss in WCW. Hall says he and Hart aren't strangers to each other and Hall will prove his superiority at Superbrawl VIII.

Grade: C-

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Bret_Hart.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Kevin_Nash.jpg

Bret Hart vs. Kevin Nash

Talk about an unmissable Nitro Main Event. Hart in his native Canada faces one of the biggest names in WCW, Kevin Nash. The Canadian crowd backs Hart emphatically as he battles the raw power of Nash. Most fans would have put this down as a draw with both the dominating forces cancelling out. However, that wasn't the case. Backed by a passionate crowd, Hart put in an amazing display throwing everything at Nash who replied in kind. In the end, Bret countered a Jacknife attempt by dropping behind Nash and rolling him up with a schoolboy. He gets the three as the arena erupts in rapturous cheering for the hometown hero.

Winner: Bret Hart by pinfall at 15:41

Grade: B

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Scott_Norton.jpg

While Bret celebrates, he is brutally jumped by Scott Norton. Norton assaults Hart alongside Nash beating him into the canvas much to the audience's rage. Things appear to go to far as a fan rushes the ring and charges at Norton. A fan should stand no chance against Norton... Except Norton goes down with one hit from the fan. He stands and stares down Nash and we get a good look at his face. A familar face. The Most Dangerous Face in the World...

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Ken_Shamrock.jpg

"IT'S KEN SHAMROCK!!!!!"

"KEN SHAMROCK IS IN WCW!!!" screams Schiavone. The fans realising the apparent fan's identity raucously cheer Shamrock. Nash flees the ring followed by Norton who hobbles behind him nursing his face. "What is going on?" asks Heenan. "Tune into Nitro next week to find out!" cries Schiavone as Nitro fades to black with Ken Shamrock and Bret Hart shoulder to shoulder in the ring.

Chavo Guerrero Jnr. vs. Jerry Lynn

Making his debut in WCW, Jerry Lynn promises to be an exciting addition to the cruiserweight division. He demonstrated how extermely talented he is. Eventually, he finished off Chavo with a Cross Armbreaker which forced the Cruiserweight Champion's nephew to submit.

Winner: Jerry Lynn by submission at 6:29

We cut to the backstage area and the number one contenders to the WCW World Tag Team Championship. Rick Martel say regardless of who wins tonight The Winning Combination will walk out of Superbrawl VIII as the WCW World Tag Team Champions. Traylor backs up his buddy's comments, saying he hopes Harlem Heat win so he can show those punks a lesson. Martel concludes by saying The Winning Combination will do what they do best. Win.

Juventud Guerrera & Psychosis vs. The Striker Brothers

The dynamic young team of the Strikers showed why they are making waves in WCW. They picked up a big win a against two of the top cruiserweights in WCW. In the end Chris Striker picked up the win when he hit a double underhook facebuster, driving Psychosis skull first into the canvas.

Winners: The Striker Brothers by pinfall at 5:12 (Chris Striker over Psychosis)

Bobby Eaton vs. Glacier

Following the ex-Earl's outburst last week, many were intrigued at how he would do in his next match, he certainly proved those words weren't hollow. He completely outclassed Glacier, as Eaton appeared to turn back the clock to his prime. He finished him off with an Alabama Jam for the three.

Winner: Bobby Eaton by pinfall at 5:02

Grade: D-

However, Eaton obviously felt his dominating display wasn't good enough as concluded with a nasty post match assault on Glacier leaving the sub-zero warrior out cold.

Brad Armstrong vs. Chris Benoit

Due to Chris Jericho missing a flight, and totally not because JJ Dillon is getting a bit forgetful in his old age, Chris Benoit had to work double duty tonight. Luckily WCW wrestlers aren't paid by time in the ring as Benoit took no time at all to quickly defeat Armstrong. Benoit picked him apart and finished him off with brutal Crossface in just under 5 minutes.

Winner: Chris Benoit by submission at 4:57

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Raven.jpg

We return from commercial to a dark and dank corner of the arena and the face of Raven. He talks about Chris Benoit, the recent focus of Raven's obsessions, he promises that, since Benoit has rebuffed his advances and repelled his subordinates, only destruction awaits the Rapid Wolverine. With the combined destructive force of Saturn and Brian Adams at his side, it is the beginning of the end for Benoit. Quote the Raven, Nevermore.

Riggs & Sick Boy vs. The Winning Combination

The #1 Contenders sent a clear message to whoever wins tonight's main event, showing why they are a force to be reckoned with. They dominated the two former Raven acolytes. Eventually, a very nice backbreaker-elbow drop combination was used by Martel & Traylor to finish off the outcasts.

Winner: The Winning Combination by pinfall at 7:04 (Rick Martel over Riggs)

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Chris_Jericho.jpg

We cut backstage to an interview with Chris Jericho who is waxing lyrical about the TV Champion Steven Regal. Jericho is quite rightly protesting that he should have a rematch after Regal villainously cheated to win their title match at Souled Out. He says that not only will he beat Regal, he will outclass the British grappler and prove that cruiserweights should rise to the top.

Goldberg vs. Mortis

Goldberg continued his rise through the WCW rankings with this victory. The young rookie made light of Mortis, who was not accompanied by James Vandenberg. The former Atlanta Falcon finished him off with a Spear. Goldberg is now 15-0 with many believing that this run may go on for some time to come.

The camera follows Goldberg as he heads backstage, Gene Okerlund scuttles up to him. He asks Goldberg if he had any words for the management in WCW, who undoubtly where impressed by his performance? Goldberg grabs the mic and snarls two words. "WHO'S NEXT?" The fans erupt as Goldberg storms off, leaving Okerlund slack jawed.

We cut to the office of WCW President, JJ Dillon. Dillon says he is proud to announce the newest match for Superbrawl VIII is a Raven's Rules match featuring Chris ... uhm... Jeri... Benoit against Raven. And to ensure no shenanigans, if the Flock interferes then Raven will be fired from WCW. If Benoit and Malenko win the tag team titles, then one of the matches will be rescheduled to Nitro. Heenan on commentary rips on Dillon for not knowing the difference between two Canadians, while Tenay and Schiavone no sell it.

Meng w/ Kevin Sullivan vs. Ultimo Dragon

Meng showed why he is considered such a destructive force in this match. Despite Ultimo Dragon's best efforts he couldn't topple the Terrifying Tongan. Kevin Sullivan urged on the detructive Meng as he countered every move Dragon threw at him, including countering a hurricanrana into a powerbomb into the turnbuckle and countering a cross body into a fall away slam to the outside. Meng eventually finished off Dragon with a Thrust Kick and a Lariat for the three.

The camera is interrupted by static and we transition to the monochrome of the nWo. The US Champion and only title holder left in the nWo is playing up his victory over Davey Boy Smith. Flanked as always by Rick Rude, Hennig goes for several personal insults against Smith calling him England's biggest disappointment since George the Third. He says Smith is wrestling's greatest disappointment and a waste of a good career. He concludes by calling Smith a joke of a wrestler and says he should just retire while he still can.

Konnan vs. Rick Steiner

Our second last match of the night saw Rick Steiner get his hands on one of his brothers new stable mates. He acts Konnan with gusto and shows the kind of skills you'd expect from a Steiner. The two men continue to battle when a very special guest heads down to ringside.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Scott_Steiner2.jpg

It takes Rick a while to notice his estranged brother but the two start to mouth off at each other. Konnan sees an opening and attempts a roll up. However Rick Steiner counters into a roll up of his own and gets the three. At ringside Scott Steiner is mouthing off, livid with his brother for winning.

Winner: Rick Steiner by pinfall at 6:31

Grade: C

Following the match Scott Steiner gets in the ring and gets all in Rick's face, eventually slapping his brother. This leads to Rick pausing for a second before launching wildly into an attack on his brother. The two men brawl around the ring until security swamps the ring and frantically tries to pull the two men apart. Several times either man breaks away and attacks the other. Scott can be heard screaming this ain't over to Rick as both men are forcibly lead to the back.

Chris Benoit & Dean Malenko vs. Harlem Heat [c]

The Tag Team titles were on the line as Harlem Heat and Benoit and Malenko showcased their talents. Booker T in particular shined in this match as Heat gained the early advantage but cutting off the man of 1,000 holds. However, he finally broke free to tag in his partner who hit all sorts of suplexes on the champions. This domination by Benoit continued until he ducked an attempted sidekick by Booker T who instead nearly kicked Charles Robinson's head off. Benoit then grabbed a stunned Booker and put him in the Crippler Crossface, causing T so submit. As Benoit released the hold, he realized the referee is out, as Schiavone and Tenay protest on commentary that we should have new tag team champions. Heenan says if the ref doesn't see it doesn't count. Then, they attacked.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Brian_Adams.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Perry_Saturn.jpg

Running down to the ring, Saturn dragged Malenko off the apron and gave him a vicious DDT on the floor, then threw head first into the steel steps. Brian Adams meanwhile charged Benoit and began choking him out before delivering a brutal chokeslam. Booker T retreated to the Harlem Heat corner where he and his brother closely eyed the Flock. Despite the obvious tension between the two sides no blows were exchanged, The Flock retreated leaving Harlem Heat in the ring with their foes down. Booker T quickly covered Benoit while Stevie Ray woke up the ref. Robinson begins to count.

1..............2.............Kickout!

Booker T & Stevie Ray look at Benoit in shock. Benoit is slowing trying to get to his feet but Booker senses a victory. After quickly scaling the ropes he hits a Harlem Hangover to the back of Benoit's head, knocking the Wolverine out cold. This time Harlem Heat get the win and quickly leave the ring. As they leave we see Benoit out cold in the ring and Malenko slumped against the ring steps outside.

Winners: Harlem Heat by pinfall at 13:52 (Booker T over Chris Benoit)

Two of the top international talents in WCW clashed in this cruiserweight opener. This was a real back and forth contest as both men tried to out do the other and gain some momentum. Das Wunderkind was eventually able to pick up the win after countering a powerbomb attempt into a pinfall.

Dean Malenko vs. Perry Saturn w/ Raven

Malenko was clearly out for vengeance against Saturn after him and Adams arguably cost him and Benoit the tag team championship last week. The two held nothing back putting on a match Schiavone described as "Radical" leading to Heenan deriding him for his ridiculous verbage. The two put on a good match as the Iceman showed real signs of aggression. However, Saturn returned in kind and showed his recent vicious streak, repeatedly attacking Malenko's skull capitalizing on his attack six days ago. Eventually, after an exchange of near falls Saturn hit a powerbomb and covered Malenko, making sure to put his feet on the ropes. This was enough to pick up the win and attract the approval of Raven who gleefully enjoyed his subordinate stealing a victory.

Winner: Perry Saturn by pinfall at 9:51

Eddy Guerrero © vs. La Parka

The winner of this match knew they would be facing a tough contest against Rey Misterio Jr. at Superbrawl VIII. Indeed Rey Misterio was so intrigued by his future opponent he came to ringside midway through this contest. Both men tried to exert control with La Parka trying to use his larger size as an advantage to overpower Guerrero. However the champion was having nothing of it and managed to out speed Parka. The two fought back and forth until Guerrero hit a beautiful Frog Splash and covered La Parka. Guerrero further guaranteed the win by putting his feet on the ropes. He got the three and retains his title.

In the melee Eddy unstraps his belt to attack Rey with it, but Misterio kicks the title into Guerrero's face knocking him out cold. Rey then grabs the belt and raises it over his head as Schiavone asks if this is an omen for Superbrawl VIII?

Raven vs. Ultimo Dragon

Raven clearly wanted to show how vicious an in ring competitor he is against Ultimo Dragon and that he did. He put in a dominant display against the Dragon, clearly trying to send a message to Chris Benoit. Despite a few offensive flurries, Ultimo Dragon just couldn't achieve any momentum. Raven finished him off with a brutal Piledriver for the three.

We cut backstage to the monochrome world of the nWo, as the static fades we are presented with Eric Bischoff flanked by Scott Norton. Bischoff makes clear that Norton doesn't like Ken Shamrock and neither does he. He says it is perfectly within his rights to have Shamrock arrested for assault as he is not officially a WCW employee. However, Bischoff says he has decided to be fair to Shamrock. He will make sure that Shamrock will get a WCW contract... if he beats "The Real World's Most Dangerous Man" Scott Norton. And... if Shamrock refuses the challenge... then Bischoff will see him in court.

Davey Boy Smith vs. Scott Norton

We return to commercial to a match between Norton and Smith. These two both have something to prove as Norton wants to send a message to Shamrock and Smith wants to show he is a legitimate threat following his loss to Hennig. These two put on a hard hitting match as neither wants to lose. However, after a Gorilla Press Slam Smith and the referee are both distracted by Curt Hennig, who has made his way to ringside.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Curt_Hennig.jpg

As the ref gets Hennig to leave Smith is blindsided by Scott Steiner, who damn near turns him inside out with a lariat.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Scott_Steiner2.jpg

Norton seizes the advantage as he hits a Powerbomb on Smith and covers him. Hennig stops distracting the ref who then counts the three. Schiavone on commentary is livid but cuts off mid-sentence apparently being relayed information.

Following the match we see Norton, Hennig and Steiner heading towards the back when we hear Schiavone's voice over a microphone. He explains that he has recieved a message from the WCW Championship Committee. They have decided that Hennig will defend his US title on Saturday Night against Chris Benoit! Hennig is unimpressed. And if he wins he will defend again at Superbrawl VIII against Davey Boy Smith!. Hennig laughs at facing his opponent from last month. Schiavone continues "And Rick Steiner" Further derision from the three nWo members. "And Scott Steiner!!!" The laughter halts as Norton is suddenly flanked by two future opponents. The two begin to show signs of tension as they exchange words leading to Steiner flattening Hennig with a clothesline. He heads to the back alone as Norton helps Hennig. Could the nWo be spiralling out of control?

We head backstage to a promo by Bret Hart. The Hitman says he is enjoying life here in WCW saying the company has some of the best wrestlers in the world. However, he says he hasn't found the experience completely enjoyable. He describes the vicious, disgusting thorn in WCW's side in the nWo. After running down each member, he finally singles out one in particular. "Scott Hall" he says "You are nothing more than the scum at the bottom of the cesspool known as the nWo. To lead an attack against me and Flair because I wouldn't join you're gang of low lives and thugs shows you for who you truly are. A coward who needs to send out his cronies to attack us. Not only that you waited until me and Flair had wrestled 20 minutes to strike. So when I square off with you at Superbrawl VIII in Miami, Florida, it doesn't matter how many of your fair weather friends you bring a long with you. I will beat you Hall. Then, I'll make settle my grudge with Flair and win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship be it from Flair or from Sting. But first, I'm coming for you Hall. See you in Miami."

Curt Hennig w/ Rick Rude vs. Diamond Dallas Page

The United States Champion was clearly angry about his title match at Superbrawl VIII as he made his way to the ring, arguing with Rude. Page on the other hand looked pleased to be back in action following his recent injury at the hand's of Hennig's stablemate Savage. Hennig has beaten Page recently, successfully defending the US title at Starrcade '97 against the popular fan favourite. The two put on a match featuring the great action one would expect from these two. A real back and forth contest neither man could gain the upperhand until Page nearly hit a Diamond Cutter after dodging a lariat attempt. Hennig managed to block it then fled to the outside to consult with Rude. The referee turned his attention to the pair beginning a ten count as Page stood gesturing for Hennig to get back in the ring. However, he was halted by a sneak attack from behind.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/Randy_Savage.jpg

Randy Savage! He repeatedly punches Page in the ribs which cause DDP to double up in pain. The referee is being distracted by Hennig and Rude at ringside as Savage assaults the ribs he injured just a few short weeks ago. He concludes his assault and slips to the outside. Hennig quickly rolls in and covers Page.

1........2...... Kickout!

We see Savage flip out at ringside and see he has a huge metal chain wrapped around his fist explaining DDP's reaction to the assault. Hennig quickly picks Page up and hits a Hennig Plex this time getting the three count. He quickly flees the ring with Savage and Rude before Page recovers.

Greensboro, North Carolina at Clash of the Champions. Flair vs. Sting. The night a star was born. You went the distance against me Sting, WOOOO, you nearly beat the man. 45 minutes and I couldn't beat you, I knew you were something special Stinger, I knew I you were something else. Just you and the Nature Boy. Except for one thing Sting. That Black and White Plague haunting the WCW! We both know they won't allow us to face off. That's why I propose we put aside our differences and unite against them for one night only! WOOOOOO! Next week on Nitro, The Nature Boy and the WCW World Champion team up against the Outsiders Nash and Hall. WOOOO! NATURE BOY! WOOO!" We cut to another area of the backstage as Gene Okerlund rapidly pursues Randy Savage with a microphone. Okerlund is asking Savage why he assaulted DDP tonight. Savage says he wants to remove DDP. He turns on Mean Gene asking him why its ok for Page to assault him but not the reverse. He says that Page is a hypocrite and just as bad as Savage and the nWo. He promises he will end Page's career and make sure ... Savage's triade is somewhat interrupted by a fist flying in from behind him and smashing him in the back of the head. The camera whips around and we see it's DDP!

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac19/solidliquid777/Roster/DDP.jpg

The Master of the Diamond Cutter begins brawling with Savage as Okerlund wisely scarpers. The two grab whatever is at hand to inflict damage, Savage begins choking DDP with a cable and Page retaliates by swinging a trash can lid over his head and clattering Savage on the skull. The Macho Man lets go and is clobbered a couple more times for good measure. He retaliates with a brutal uppercut right into Page's nose, sending him spiralling back. Savage grabs a chair and doesn't bother folding it up before swinging at Page's ribs. At this point various WCW officals flood the scene and frantically pull the two men apart. Keen eyed viewers may have spotted such legends as Paul Orndorff and Harley Race. As the two are pulled apart, JJ Dillon stands between them and says clearly this issue is far from resolved as such DDP will face off against Savage at Superbrawl VIII! Both men are pulled apart as the continue to bad mouth each other.

Scott Steiner vs. Sting

This evenings main event was a clash between two WCW all stars. Both delivered a match filled with great action. Sting was clearly the superior athlete of the two but Steiner still tried all he could to walk out of Oklahoma with an impressive victory. The self-proclaimed "Superior Steiner" showed his amazing strength and technical prowess slamming and suplex the champion with ease. However, Steiner's recently found arrogance cost him any advantage as he acted as though Sting was not a threat, stopping to taunt the Portland natives in attendance. "Bad Mistake" says Heenan "If you get Sting down you finish him. I'd pin him now, handful of tights and he get the three." "You'd cheat, Big Daddeh?" Asks Dusty Rhodes. "Yes" replies Heenan "He's Sting! He beat Hogan and I respect any man who does that" Dusty laughs at Heenan's continued dislike of Hogan. Steiner has spent this time getting in the face of some young fans in Sting masks. Sting is down in the ring but like an immortal warrior rises to his feet and comes after Steiner. The look of shock in Steiner's face is notable as Sting fights back. Steiner manages to hit a belly to belly out of desperation but Sting gets straight back up. Steiner has his back to him and the first he knows about Sting behind him is when he is dropped by a Scorpion Death Drop. Sting covers him and gets the three.

Winner: Sting by pinfall at 11:36

Grade: B

No one predicted for Nitro, if you guys aren't interested in TV show predictions I could ditch them and just do them for PPV's? It would mean I would be able to write these up quicker too. That's of course if people still want me to continue this. Personally, I really enjoy it and would love to keep doing it.

Sorry, I keep reading your show and going "I'll predict later" and then I never get back to it :/ I really like this diary, I definitely don't want to see it fall. If you would be able to write things up quicker, then disposing of every show predictions could be the way to go. I've done it in my WCW, and it hasn't done any damage.

I fell way behind on this diary, but just spent a solid hour or two catching up. Still a great read. I like how you have interesting things going on even for lower card guys, a great example being Bobby Eaton's "bitter veteran" shtick.

If the speed of your posting is at all delayed by running predictions for the weekly TV, I would agree that dropping that aspect of the diary is probably a good choice. Plus I think it makes it easier to follow along.

Given these two comments I'll probably ditch predictions seeing as I was leaning that way anyway. To be honest, by the time I've waited for people to predict I've often lost a bit of interest in writing stuff up. So hopefully, I'll have Saturday Night up soon and hopefully we'll reach Superbrawl VIII soon (I really like how that show turned out :p)

On an unrelated note I'm glad you guys are enjoying it still. I'm glad you like bitter veteran Bobby Eaton. I'm hoping to add a bit more stuff for lower card guys, because WCW has one of the best rosters ever at this point and it seems a bit of waste not to do stuff with them.

Oh and seeing as Beejus was winning the now defunct tv predictions you can have a prize. When I think of one :p
