“On April 24, 1983, AWA president Stanley Blackburn had made a decision to strip Hulk Hogan of the AWA World Heavyweight Title. Being the second such time Blackburn had stripped Hogan of his rightly won title, Hogan soon turned sour, eventually leaving the AWA for New Japan Pro-Wrestling and later that year, returning to Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation. Hogan went on to defeat The Iron Sheik for the WWF World Heavyweight Title, and the rest, as they say, is ‘history’. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Uatu the Watcher. It is my job to watch the events on your world. Occasionally, I watch the events of ‘alternate’ time-lines. Oh yes, there is a time-line where Hulk Hogan petitioned Stanley Blackburn and Verne Gagne for a definitive deciding match against AWA World Heavyweight Champion, Nick Bockwinkel. Garnering the support of the fans, Blackburn could not overlook Hogan’s demands. So, on June 1983, Hogan was granted yet another rematch for the AWA Title and Professional Wrestling history would make a dramatic change. June 1983 1st Week, June 1983 AWA All-Star Wrestling ================================================================ To start the show, Lee Marshall hyped the fact that AWA Commissioner, Verne Gagne would be making a huge announcement concerning the AWA World Heavyweight Title. ”Mr. Electricity” Steve Regal v. Jake Milliman The young, flamboyant Regal broke several rules and egged his larger opponent outside of the ring where the barricade & steel post were brought into play. As Regal argued with the referee about using these objects, Milliman stumbled into the ring allowing the lightweight to score a victory with a Cross Body Block.

Gene Okerland was standing in front of the AWA emblem/backdrop backstage and was joined by Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissey & The Sheiks (Ken Patera & Jerry Blackwell).
Adnan said that his men were ready to claim the AWA Tag Team Titles for the Shah.
Adnan added that tonight Hall & Hennig will be made examples of.
”Baby Bull” Leon White v. Billy Robinson White dominated the match showcasing his strength and “Bull Power”. Robinson, the expert technician, did his best to work over the larger man but it was ineffective as White put the veteran away with a Big Elbow Drop. The Sheiks w/Adnan Al-Kaissey v. “Big” Scott Hall & Curt Hennig No question that this was a pure squash match. Hall & Hennig did manage to slow things down for several minutes, however the strength of Patera and size of Blackwell kept things decidedly in their favor. Patera planted Hennig with a Shoulderbreaker and Blackwell finished things with an Avalanche. Brad Rheingans v. Mr. Saito w/Bobby “The Brain” Heenan A great match-up to fuel things for the immediate future for both of these men. These two complimented each other’s styles leaving the fans wanting more. Heenan was able to distract the referee long-enough for Saito to toss a handful of salt into the eyes of Brad giving him the win.

Verne Gagne made sure to get to the ring before Heenan could leave.
Verne said that he was tired of Heenan & Bockwinkel’s abuse of World Champion authority and it was time “the office” did something about it.
Verne booked Bockwinkel to defend his title against Hulk Hogan.
Heenan objected, saying that Nick would sooner quit.
Verne said that if he did, Hogan would be declared champion. He added that their match would be inside a steel cage.
Heenan went nuts as Bockwinkel made his way toward the ring for his match. He tried to intimidate the Commissioner, however it didn’t work.
Nick Bockwinkel © w/Bobby Heenan v. Rick Martel - AWA World Heavyweight Title It was obvious Bockwinkel had his mind on Hogan as Martel made the champ look like an opener. A classic, technical match was the match of the night and Martel thought he might claim the title itself when he ascended the top rope for his finisher a Flying Cross Body. The fans were not delighted however, as the ring veteran side stepped Martel and followed up with a pin using the tights.

2nd Week, June 1983 AWA All-Star Wrestling - Televised ================================================================ Lee Marshall is joined by ken Resnick this week and the two talk about Hulk Hogan’s rematch for the AWA World Title. They introduce the following footage which was taped after Bockwinkel’s defense against Martel last week. Heenan & Bockwinkel catch up with Verne Gagne backstage.

Heenan bluffs Verne, saying that it is Bockwinkel’s right as a champion to only allow two title defenses to one person.
Verne stands poker-faced as Heenan almost breaks down in tears.
Heenan threatens Verne saying that Nick’s attorneys will be involved if the match is not cancelled.
Verne says that Hogan will get his rematch and tells Heenan that if he persists, he will banned from ringside.
”Rock N’ Roll” Buck Zumhofe v. Billy Robinson Buck came to the ring carrying a boom box on his shoulder and the AWA Light Heavyweight Title around his waist. Robinson, the willy veteran attacked Zumhofe as he entered the ring. Billy grabbed the boom box and smacked Zumhofe with it, sending the champ to the mat. Robinson used every dirty tactic in the book however he was not successful in gaining victory over the lightweight as Zumhofe fought back to the motivation of the crowd and picked up a win with a Flying Sunset Flip. A new segment was introduced by Resnick & Marshall, The Body Shop with host Jesse Ventura.

Ventura called the two “flab sacks” on the house mic and proceeded to call out his very first guest, “The Incredible” Hulk Hogan.
”The Eye of the Tiger” brought out the number one contender to the AWA World Heavyweight Title.
Hogan thanked the fans for their continued support and vowed to beat Bockwinkle.
Ventura told Hogan to “cool his jets” and reminded The Hulkster that it was his show, so he called the shots. He turned the “interview” into a Good guy bashing, running down Hogan. Jesse said that Hogan thought he was “a big deal” because he got beat up by “a shrimp like Sly Stallone”.
The segment lased for several minutes and ended with Hulk signing some autographs for some fans.
”Mr. Electricty” Steve Regal v. “Big” Scott Hall Because of the mismatch of styles, this match served to disappoint the crowd. The Big Man gained a victory after hitting a Running Bulldog on the bleached, blonde Regal. Mene Gene was backstage with three members of The Heenan Family (Bockwinkel, Schultz, & Lanza).

Heenan was the mouthpiece for the champ, saying that what Gagne has done is against every moral he ever had.
Gene reminded them that the match was signed and would take place on June 11th. He asked what their game plan would be.
Heenan, stumped and angered, told Gene to shut-up. He said that the “game plan was simple”: show the world, the humanoids, and The Hulkster tha Bockwinkel is the Greatest World Champion to ever step foot in the ring. He asked Gene if Hogan ever held a title. He called Hogan a “bleached blonde, weight lifting punk” and said that Nick would embarrass him inside of the cage.
Heenan said that Hogan would get a taste of what Bockwinkel is capable of tonight.
The Sheiks w/Adnan v. The Crusher & Dick The Bruiser The fans were on fire for their hometown hero’s, Bruiser & Crusher who were attacked as they played to the crowd. Patera wrapped his headgear around the neck of The Crusher and sent him through the second rope, choking him as Blackwell squashed The Bruiser in the corner all while Adnan distracted the referee. The fans went nuts as this scene continued for another minute, pleading with the referee to turn around. Once the match officially got underway, The Sheiks almost dominated their opponents save for a brief comeback from the good guys. Patera tagged in Blackwell for the Avalanche and dove at Crusher to ensure the three count was not broken up. Ken Resnick obtained comments from the victors.

The fans screamed as Adnan hyped his team.
Adnan said that The High-Flyers had no chance of keeping their belts.
Crusher and Bruiser threw a chair at Blackwell on their way from the ring, ending the interview.
Blackjack Lanza w/Bobby Heenan v. “The Incredible” Hulk Hogan Hogan was attacked as he entered the ring however fought back sending Lanza out of the ring. Heenan, looking like a scolded dog, made an exit before Hogan could get a hold of him. In what would be an immortal gesture, Hogan ripped his t-shirt from his large frame as his entrance music stopped playing. Lanza regrouped with Heenan on the floor as the referee held Hogan back. During the match, Heenan interjected himself three times when the referee was distracted. The final time, Hogan blocked a Heenan right hand and moved out of the way as a charging Lanza collided head to head with his manager. Hulk followed up with a Big Legdrop to score a win.

Nick Bockwinkel made his way into the ring as the bell rang and smacked Hogan with a steel chair.
Before the show ended, Lanza joined his stable mate in beating down Hulk.
2nd Week, June 1983 Super Saturday - Non-Televised ================================================================ ”Mr. Electricity” Steve Regal v. “Rock N’ Roll” Buck Zumhofe © - AWA Light Heavyweight Title Zumhofe almost lost his title in this match as the intense Regal poured it on. After a pre-bell attack by the challenger, Zumhofe fought back and erupted with three dropkicks, sending Regal to the floor. The referee had to hold Zumhofe back, giving Regal time to regroup and plan a new line of attack. Regal worked over Zumhofe’s head, neck, and back with a series of technical holds. Later on, Zumhofe brawled back sending his opponent to the mat with a stiff right hand. The champ then ascended the top rope and caught Regal with a Flying Body Splash to retain his title. Brad Rheingans v. Mr. Saito w/Bobby “The Brain” Heenan In a return match from two weeks prior, these two put on a fantastic technical wrestling match. Heenan attempted a few times to distract the referee, fortunately Rheingans made his way to the floor and chased Heenan to the back. He was almost counted out for his efforts, but Brad climbed back into the ring into the waiting arms of his opponent. Saito gained an advantage and worked with it, keeping the almost-Olympian down with hold after hold. Heenan never came back out for Saito which worked toward Brad’s advantage. Rheingans finished off the match with a Cradle Suplex. Heenan finally returned to the ring as Rheingans was announced as the winner.

Saito was passed a handful of salt which he used to blind Brad.
Saito locked in a STF and did not break despite the bell ringing and officials coming out to break it up.
A minute later, Heenan called his man off.
”Baby Bull” Leon White v. “Dr. Death” David Schultz w/Bobby Heenan This was not the classic technical match that has just been seen, instead these two brawlers fought tooth and nail. White gained the upper hand using his strength and size. Schultz took the low road using various rule breaking to slow the big man down. The intensity of the match eventually builds up and the referee finds himself having to get in the middle of the fray. Unfortunately for him, both men strike him sending him to the mat and calling for the bell. Heenan, enters the ring and tries to get Schultz to stop, but it falls on deaf ears as the two have to be pulled apart by officials. The official word is a Double DQ. Billy Robinson v. “Big” Scott Hall Filler match that didn’t help to fuel the excitement of the fans. Scott Hall hit a Fall Away Slam for the win. The High Flyers (G. Gagne & J. Brunzell) © v. The Sheiks (K. Patera & J. Blackwell) w/Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissey - AWA World Tag Team Titles The champions came out to decent fan fare and looked ready for their biggest title defense yet. Adnan talked to his men in the corner, going over the game plan one last time. When the bell rang, Patera & Blackwell wasted no time in destroying the champs. In the beginning of the match, the champions had a working game plan (hold, hold, hold, quick strike, tag) and did so for the first five or six minutes, however Adnan instructed the bigger men to control the match and keep Brunzell in for the long haul. They wore Jim down for twice as long, keeping a fresher member of the challenging team in. Brunzell finally made a hot tag but it was to no avail as Patera press slammed Gagne to the mat, setting up for a Big Splash by Blackwell. Three seconds later and Blackwell & Patera were declared new champions. Heenan demands a rematch for Dr. D

Heenan finds Okerland in the interview position and demands a match for Schultz against White.
Verne Gagne walks in.
Heenan say’s that Dr. D wants a Chain Match so the big man can’t pull “his shenanigans again”.
Verne grants a rematch but warns Heenan not to interfere.
Baron Von Raschke v. Blackjack Lanza w/Bobby Heenan Raschke goose stepped to the ring, displaying his right hand. Lanza didn’t seem intimidated as he uses the Clawhold himself. Heenan, looking very unfocused, instructed Lanza to hurt The Baron and take out his right hand. During the match, that’s exactly what Lanza attempted to do, using hold after hold on his opponents right arm, shoulder, and hand. Raschke later had to resort to biting and eye-gouges which was not unseen by the referee. Heenan, the leader on the floor, tried to use some last minute cheating to give his man a victory by jumping onto the apron and arguing with the referee about his “poor” officiating. This made it seem as though Lanza had some borrowed time when he snuck up on Raschke and hit a right hand. This pumped The Baron up and it resulted in fisticuffs followed by Te Iron Claw for a Baron win. The Hennigs v. Jake Milliman & Kenny Jay Jay, a longtime veteran of the Midwest area, received a mild crowd reaction, however his long line of losses was not helping him gain anymore fans. This match featured four fan favorites, but it was easy for the crowd to find someone to cheer for in The Hennigs. The chemistry of this father-son tandem worked well during the match, with the power of Larry feeding in to the speed of his son. The Hennigs claimed a victory with Larry locking in a Bearhug. Rick Martel v. Jesse “The Body” Ventura The easy fan-favorite was Martel who was showered with adoration by the female fans. As a result of his congeniality, Ventura struck before the bell, a hard forearm to the back bringing the young man to his knee’s. The referee quickly admonished Jesse for this action and threatened to end it before it started. Verne Gagne had to come to ringside personally to see if Martel would be able to continue. This allowed Ventura to look even more like an ******* by telling the fans that Martel was week and needed to go back to Canada. Martel got a standing ovation when he told Verne that he wanted to go on. This was his misfortune as the early advantage by Ventura haunted Rick for the remainder of the match. Martel did mount a respectable comeback but one Canadian Backbreaker later and Ventura stood the victor. As the cage was assembled around the ring, the fans made sure to be back in their seats before this match began. ”The Incredible” Hulk Hogan v. Nick Bockwinkel © w/Bobby Heenan - AWA World Heavyweight Title - Steel Cage Heenan looked out of his element walking around the cage as Bockwinkel checked it out for security. The cool-headed champion did not seem worried and joked with his manager as he was climbing into the ring. The champ paraded around the ring, sticking his nose in the air listening to Bobby as the fans quieted down. “Eye of the Tiger” began playing and Hulk Hogan emerged from the back escorted by security. Hogan looked more pumped up and primed than he had in his two prior title matches against Bockwinkel. The challenger stomped around the ring greeting the fans as the champ continued his clam pace around the ring. Hogan finally entered and the fans quieted once again to listen to the announcement. Bockwinkel’s three reigns as AWA champ was accentuated in his introduction and Heenan may have been the only one in the arena to applaud this. After Hogan was introduced the fans went nuts again as Bockwinkel unclasped his belt and handed it to the referee, never adverting his gaze from Hogan’s eye’s. Hogan did the same and went nose-to-nose with the older veteran once the bell rang. Bockwinkel, being the aristocrat that he was, pulled back. He looked around the crowd before throwing a right hand. The Hulkster blocked it and fired a right hand of his own staggering the champion. Hogan followed with another right hand and a chop before whipping Bockwinkel off the ropes. The champ, ever mindful of his surroundings, caught himself instead of eating a Big Boot. Bockwinkel took the young powerhouse to task technically, however the larger brawler he was facing was hungry to taste his first world championship and showed it by busting the older man open. The champion wouldn’t allow Hogan to defeat him so easily and later busted the blonde open too. When it looked like Bockwinkel was done, Heenan forced his way through the door and slammed down on Hulk with a Double Axehandle. It didn’t phase Hulk who turned around and sent Bobby into a cage wall. Bockwinkel made it to his feet in time for a Big Bodyslam followed by a Legdrop. In a history changing moment, Hulk Hogan held Nick down for a three count. The crowd erupted as Baron Von Raschke, Mad Dog Vachon, Dick The Bruiser, The Crusher, Greg Gagne, & Scott Hall filled into the cage to celebrate with The Hulkster.

3rd Week, June 1983 AWA All-Star Wrestling - Televised ================================================================ Jake Milliman v. Mr. Saito w/Bobby Heenan Saito looked like a machine as he picked Milliman apart. Heenan barked several commands to Saito who nodded and carried them out. He looked a lot more vicious in this match than he has in some time. Saito finished Milliman off with a Saito Suplex. Heenan puts Saito over/Threatens Hogan

Bobby said that Saito has been reinvigorated and ready to pick Brad Rheingans apart.
Before the end of the hype, Heenan warns Hogan saying, “This isn’t over yet.”
Blackjack Lanza w/Bobby Heenan v. Mark Youngblood The commentating team put Youngblood over as one of the “shining stars” of the sport. He put up some great offense against the veteran and it looked like he would walk away as the winner but missed the Leaping Tomahawk Chop allowing Lanza to lock on The Clawhold for the win. The Sheiks Welocme Mark Youngblood

As Mark was recovering from his loss Sheik Adnan lead the new Tag Team Champions to the ring.
The Sheik barked some instructions and Patera & Blackwell jumped on Mark.
Patera locked in a Full Nelson allowing his partner to lay in some right hands.
The carnage continued until Jay, Mark’s older brother, ran to the ring, sending the champions scrambling.
”Big” Scott Hall v. Jesse “The Body” Ventura Ventura came to the ring wearing a “Hulkamania” t-shirt., obviously to mock the champion. Scott didn’t seem to like it and attacked The Body, ripping the shirt from his torso. The two spent several minutes exchanging control of the match but Ventura won after an awkward Body Breaker. The Body has some words for The Hulkster

Jesse asks Resnick if he noticed anything about the match. Resnick nodded “no”. Jesse said that he looked a lot like the AWA Champion in there.
Ventura continued saying, “The only difference Racoon-top, is that unlike Hulk Hogan, I have a future in this business. Hulk Hogan is nothing more than a pretender in a real world. He may have upset Bockwinkle, but I’m not at the end of my career. I’m just getting started and I might have some friends join me along the way.”
Resnick looked confused like always as Ventura walked away from the ring.
Curt Hennig v. “Dr. Death” David Schultz w/Bobby Heenan Marshall & Resnick comment that Heenan is a busy man tonight. The Brain continued to have his men be more aggressive which resulted in a bad night for Curt. Schultz won with a Piledriver but the match didn’t end there. Heenan handed David a chain. Schultz wrapped it around Curt’s neck and sent him over the top rope, choking him. The referee tried to separate David’s hands from the chain but Heenan interjected himself, drawing the ref away from the attempted murder. Schultz pushed on the middle rope with his boot until Larry Hennig made his way to the ring. He slammed David with a right hand, forcing him to release his son.

4th Week, June 1983 AWA All-Star Wrestling - Televised ================================================================ Jake Milliman & Kenny Jay v. “Mr. Electricity” Steve Regal & Kevin Kelly Regal found a working team mate in the young, arrogant as himself, Kelly. The two young men had their hands full for a moment but picked up a victory when Kelly locked on The Full Nelson. Heenan hypes a big tag team match

Heenan talks to Resnick about the main eent for the night, Mr. Saito & David Schultz vs. Leon White & Brad Rheingans.
Bobby says that his men have been training to be the meanest they’ve been in years and added that “two young punks won’t be anything more than kibble tonight.”
The Fantastics (Tommy Rogers & Bobby Fulton) v. The Sheiks © w/Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissey - AWA World Tag Team Titles The young, debuting team of Rogers and Fulton are fodder for the big champs. The good guys did get a Double Dropkick on both men, but they could not get Blackwell off his feet. They tried a Double Suplex but it resulted in both of them hurting their backs. Jerry took the advantage Body slamming Fulton followed up by a Big Splash for a victory. Footage was shown, replaying The Sheiks bloodying Mark Youngblood from last week with Marshall & Resnick providing commentary. Adnan continues to put The Sheiks over

More from the past. Adnan spoke highly of his “destroyers”.
Adnan reminded them both that the “American way of life” would not have granted them this chance.
The Hennigs want revenge

Curt, wearing a foam collar, is joined at ringside by his father. The duo call out Verne Gagne.
Gagne comes out and shakes Larry’s hand. Curt looks to be in pain.
Larry reminds Verne of their “old” friendship and wants to do something about what happened to his son last week.
He continues, saying that before Schultz gets his butt handed to him by Leon White, he wants a chance to face Dr. D in a chain match.
Verne say’s that it is a request that he will have to give some thought to.
”Baby Bull” Leon White & Brad Rheingans v. “Dr Death” David Schultz & Mr. Saito w/Bobby Heenan A great match to end the evening. It was tough for the referee to keep order as White fought with Schultz & Brad fought with Saito in unison. Order was restored to the fans delight. White attempted to Gorilla Press Saito but turned it into a big power slam which rocked the mat. As White went for the cover, Schultz broke it up drawing Rheingans into the ring. After more brawling, Heenan pulled his two men from the ring, refusing to get back in. At the count of ten, White and Rheingans arms were raised, however the action did not stop. Larry Hennig came out from the back with a chair, knocking Saito to the floor. Schultz and Heenan scrambled around the ring as Larry chased them.

1st Week, July 1983 Great Lakes Region - 1,679 fans AWA All-Star Wrestling - Televised ================================================================ ”Mr. Electricity” Steve Regal v. “Rock N Roll” Buck Zumhofe © - AWA Light Heavyweight Title This mini feud continued as these two young lightweights went at it again. Zumhofe brought the “Rock N Roll” as he made Regal look bad in the encounter. Sensing defeat, Regal pushed the referee into Zumhofe disqualifying himself. Gene Okerland was backstage welcoming fans to this edition of AWA All-Star Wrestling. He introduced “a man who has a legitimate grievance against Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissey & the AWA World Tag Team Champions for what they did to his brother, Jay Youngblood.” Jay walked into view with a battle cry. He told Gene that what The Sheiks did was not acceptable and not forgivable and that soon, he and his brother would be seeking revenge. Kevin Kelly v. Brad Rheingans Brad came to the ring in usual fashion, whipping off his towel to a ring attendant before jogging around the ring. As he did this, the larger Kelly stretched in the corner arrogantly. Kelly apparently thought that he would be able to get the victory but things turned sour when Brad escaped The Full Nelson and executed a Schoolboy Rollup for the three. At ringside Ken Resnick asked Brad for a few words regarding his forthcoming match against the Asian Brute, Mr. Saito. Brad said that Saito is a worthy opponent and a tough one. Brad said that his win over Saito at Battle by the Bay would be duplicated. He wrapped it up by saying that Bobby Heenan had better stay out of the action. Backstage with Gene Okerland again. This time to well spoken interviewer introduced “The Body” Jesse Ventura by saying that he is a man who has some beef with the new World Champion, Hulk Hogan. Ventura came out in a t-shirt and wrapped in a feather boa. He flexed his left bicep as Gene finished. Ventura called Hogan a “cry baby and a coward. ‘Mean’ Gene, do you realize that the only reason Hogan got a title shot was because of his ‘Movie career’? Hogan wants the world to believe that he was wronged by Nick Bockwinkel and that he was entitled to one more shot. Well Gene, I plan on proving that Hogan is nothing more than a selfish coward who does not have the talent or the will to hold on to that belt.” “Jumpin’” Jim Brunzell v. “The Body” Jesse Ventura Brunzell was already in the ring waiting for Jesse. Ventura was introduced and slowly made his way into the ring, taking time to backtalk the fans and display his physique. Ventura had no problem countering Brunzell’s high flying style with brawling and Jesse wasted no time in working on Jim’s back as a set up to The Body Vice. Jesse was awarded the match and posed before heading to the back. The Sheiks and Adnan Al-Kaissey v. Mad Dog Vachon, Dick The Bruiser, & The Crusher This match was pandemonium before the opening bell. Adnan ducked behind his champions quite a few times during the tornado brawl. The Sheik continued this cowardly behavior during the match, waiting for one of his men to beat down one of the good guys before interjecting himself as a fierce combatant. The home town heroes fought back against the tag team champs and brought the match to a head. A miscommunication by Adnan and his men caused their defeat after Adnan decked Blackwell with a foreign object while the big man was holding Vachon.

2nd Week, July 1983 Mid West Region - 4,250 fans AWA All-Star Wrestling - Televised ================================================================ Lee Marshall & Ken Resnick open the show discussing the main event for the evening, Hulk Hogan’s very first title defense against David Schultz. The Fantastics (Tommy Rogers & Bobby Fulton) v. Steve Regal & Kevin Kelly Rogers and Fulton in their second AWA match, strutted around the ring, embracing the women of the crowd. They didn’t seem to be fan favorites with the blue collar gentlemen in the crowd, but they played the fan favorites, especially over a guy more hated than them, Steve Regal. Regal talked with the big man of the contest, Kevin Kelly as the bell rang. The Fantastics made a good first showing, utilizing their high-flying, speed oriented offense, however they were put down when Kelly made Rogers give up with a Full Nelson. A taped video clip, showing Gene Okerland walking through a busy Minnesota gym aired. Okerland said that he was here at Jesse Ventura’s request and he found The Body on a Bench Press. Ventura did a few reps of 350lbs and told Gene that he was more of a physical specimen than “The Hokester”. Ventura continued to hype himself for a few more minutes, giving the audience at home an overview of his work-out routine. ”Baby Bull” Leon White v. Billy Robinson Not much of an exciting match with this one. White powered the veteran around, looking more dominate with each move, while Robinson used his veteran rule breaking skills whenever he could. White won the contest following a Bear Hug. Ken Resnick collected Baby Bull for some words on David Schultz and their upcoming Chain match. White did well, looking humble and fearsome at the same time. He said that Schultz may have Heenan in his corner, but he will have someone who has actually competed at “our level”, Larry “The Axe” Hennig in his. Another taped segment and this time it was from a quiet hospital room. Gene Okerland spoke softly as he interviewed Mark Youngblood. Mark reflected his brothers remarks from last week and promised revenge on “two no-good turncoats”. Jake Milliman v. Baron Von Raschke The Baron goose stepped to the ring to the fanfare. He got into the ring and was attacked by Jake. Milliman continued to pound on the German until Raschke “hulked up” and made a resounding comeback. Jake should have quit before it started as The Claw was clamped on, forcing his submission. ”Dr. Death” David Schultz w/Bobby Heenan v. “The Incredible” Hulk Hogan © - AWA World Heavyweight Title Heenan waved the fans hand’s away from the robed Schultz. Once in the ring, Heenan reacted negatively to a “Weasel” chant from the fans, telling them all to shut up. The crowd erupted when the champion, Hulk Hogan’s music hit. Different from the last time he came into a match, Hogan wasn’t wearing his white robe. Instead he proudly displayed a “Hulkster” t-shirt and a red head band. Schultz attacked the muscular champion as he entered the ring with Heenan screaming instructions. The two exchanged offense until the 10 minute mark when Hogan made the final move, body slamming Dr. D. followed by a Big Legdrop for the three.

3rd Week, July 1983 Mid South Region - 621 fans AWA Weekly - Non-Televised ================================================================ Marshall & Resnick start the show by hyping the main event, Jesse Ventura & David Schultz in tag team action against Hulk Hogan and Baron Von Raschke. They also say that tonight, Verne Gagne will announce his decision on the Larry Hennig/David Schultz chain match. Kenny Jay v. Brian Adidas Jay is already in the ring as the debuting Brian Adidas arrogantly walked to the ring. Marshall & Resnick spoke briefly about Adidas and his accomplishments in Texas. Adidas worked a good match that left Jay looking tired at the end. The young rule breaker won with a Rolling Reverse. Buddy Lane v. “Rock N’ Roll” Buck Zumhofe © - AWA Light Heavyweight Title The second debuting lightweight for the evening, Buddy Lane had his hands full against the champ. Zumhofe made short work of the challenger, dispatching him with a Flying Splash to retain his title. The Champion joined Resnick at ringside for some words, but before he could say anything besides “Thank you”, newcomer Brian Adidas emerged from the back. He told Zumhofe that he was a “joke” and that he wanted a chance to face Buck for his belt. Zumhofe said that anytime anyone wanted a shot, he wasn’t hard to find. The Natural Blondes (Regal & Doug Somers) v. The High Flyers Regal walked to the ring to the disgust of the fans and announced that he found a “kindred spirit” as Doug Somers walked to the ring. Regal said that they are to be known as “The Natural Blondes” which drew heat from the crowd. Brunzell & Gagne received a great reception from the fans when they came out and were attacked by Regal & Somers. The match itself was a decent back-and-forth tag team encounter and it saw Regal get the pin on Brunzell following a questionable right hand by Somers. In the back, Jesse Ventura is interviewed by Gene Okerland. Jesse said that in his match tonight, he will show the world the type of person “The Hokester” is. He will show the AWA that Hogan is a fraud and that he can’t win a match fairly. Ken Resnick is joined by the AWA Commissioner, Verne Gagne for a special announcement. Verne has decided that Larry Hennig will be granted a chain match against David Schultz at the July show. Verne says, “I’m only granting it because of what David Schultz did to Curt Hennig.” Kevin Kelly v. Jay Youngblood Jay had his work cutout for him against the much larger opponent. Kelly bullied the Native American around the ring for most of the match, wearing him down with holds and big, power moves. Youngblood fought back and scored a win after a Flying Tomahawk Chop. As Jay celebrated, Adnan Al-Kaissey jumped onto the ring apron, distracting Jay. This allowed the World Tag Team Champions to sneak in from behind and attack him. Blackwell hit two Big Splashes as Adnan bloodied Jay with a foreign object. After the carnage, Adnan invited Ken Resnick into the ring. Medical staff attended to the fallen Youngblood as Adnan gathered his troops. Adnan told Resnick that both Youngbloods would not be in any shape to prove an opposing threat to the World Tag Team Titles. Adnan promised a “swift, decisive victory” at SuperClash. The Crusher & Dick The Bruiser v. The Sheiks © w/Adnan Al-Kaissey - AWA World Tag Team Titles The fans seemed to be tired of The Sheiks having just seen them attack a wrestler and hear Adnan speak. Crusher & Bruiser worked a stiff, competitive match, however they were unable to claim the titles in this affair. Patera sent Crusher into the corner and leapt on Bruiser as Blackwell crashed in with an Avalanche for the victory. ”The Body” Jesse Ventura & “Dr. D” David Schultz w/Bobby Heenan v. Baron Von Raschke & “The Incredible” Hulk Hogan A dream match for the crowd turned into a classic battle. Heenan reminded everyone of his presence as he choked, hit, tripped, and distracted the fan favorites every chance he got. Schultz and Schultz kept Baron in the ring, exchanging a foreign object which they used to bust the veteran open. Finally, Hogan had had enough and came in without a tag. He body slammed Ventura and tossed David over the top rope which resulted in a disqualification. Hogan helped Baron up as the announcer made the call. Hogan raised Baron’s arm which showed that the fans thought that they were the winners.

4th Week, July 1983 Great Lakes Region - 1,700 fans AWA Wrestling Weekly - Non-Televised ================================================================ Jake Milliman v. Kevin Kelly The arrogant Kelly made short work of his robust opponent. A steady match resulted in Kelly getting the victory with a Full Nelson. The Fantastics v. The Natural Blondes Fuller & Rogers made sure to play to the attention of their female fans, which the rule breakers attempted to duplicate, however they were unsuccessful. Somers & Regal looked more like a team than they have been and made sure to work like one. They kept the fresh man in with quick tags and wore their opponents down. The N.B.’s time management skills need work as the bell rang with a Time Limit draw. Regal and Somers looked at each other and beat Rogers down, however a fresh Fuller drove them to the floor. Kenny Jay v. Brian Adidas Adidas would be more over with a gimmick, but for now he’s playing his part. The youth of Adidas proved to be in his favor as he dispatched Jay with a Rolling Reverse. Barry Orton v. “Baby Bull” Leon White Orton was out powered in this match up. Although for several minutes Orton had White down, however when he attempted a Double Axehandle, White caught him and performed a Belly-to-Belly Suplex for the win. White’s arm was raised and he was instantly attacked by “Dr. D” David Schultz, using a chain, from behind. Schultz whipped White with the chain as Heenan kept the referee busy. Schultz picked up the big man and planted him with a Piledriver on top of the chain. With White left hurt in the ring, Heenan and Schultz joined Ken Resnick at ringside. Heenan asked Resnick if he paid attention to what just happened. Resnick said, “Yes.” Heenan said, “Good humanoid, because Dr. Death isn’t finished with that big ape yet. At The Summer Tour stop in August, White is going to get the lesson of his life. And I will tell you, Hulk Hogan winning the World Title has sparked a deadly reawakening with The Heenan Family that won’t be stopped.” In a taped segment, Brad Rheingans arrives to the arena. He steps out of his vehicle and is blindsided by Mr. Saito. Saito pummels the former amateur grappler with a tire iron. For several minutes the mauling continues leaving Brad a bloodied mess. Mr. Saito w/Bobby “The Brain” Heenan v. Greg Gagne Gagne worked over the powerful Saito with hold after hold, however it wasn’t enough to get him a win. After a missed Flying Kneedrop, Gagne was scopped up and awkwardly power slammed for the three. The Sheiks © w/Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissey v. Rick Martel & Jay Youngblood - AWA World Tag Team Titles The team of Martel & Youngblood used their quickness to throw the champions off kilter. Martel & Youngblood looked like they may claim the titles, however a distraction of the referee by Patera allowed his cunning manager to smack Youngblood with a chair. From there it was elementary as Blackwell crushed him with a Big Splash for the win.

4th Week, July 1983 Southwest Region - 541 fans End-of-the-month Show - Non-Televised ================================================================ The Fantastics v. The Natural Blondes Another rematch for these two, young teams ended in a battle at ringside between all four men. The carnage ended when Regal & Somers knocked Fulton over the crowd barrier. After kicking Rogers, Somers joined his partner at ringside with Ken Resnick. Regal said that he was tired o all of the “rules” the AWA has. He said that he wanted a no disqualification, no count-out, no time limit tag team match against The Fantastics. Brian Adidas v. “Rock ‘N Roll” Buck Zumhofe © - AWA Light Heavyweight Title Zumhofe strutted to the ring with the title around his waist on the outside of his silver jumpsuit. Adidas took it to the champion, having proclaimed early in the match to the fans, that he would claim the title from Buck. As Buck fought back, Brian saw his chances slipping and decked the referee intentionally, resulting in his disqualification from the match. Climbing out of the ring, Brian Adidas is confronted by the AWA Commissioner, Verne Gagne with Ken Resnick. Verna said that he doesn’t like guys who beat up on AWA officials and threatens to suspend Adidas if it happens again. Kevin Kelly & Barry Orton v. “Big” Scott Hall & “Baby Bull” Leon White These mixture of four, singles competitors made for an interesting at team match. Despite Kelly’s size, he was out powered by the two fan favorites which led to him tagging out quickly on some occasions to his team mate. Orton was dispatched with a Big Elbow Drop from White. Ringside, Gene Okerland welcomes his guests, The Youngbloods. The brothers had some things to say about the Tag Team Champions and their manager. Jay challenged The Sheiks to put their titles on the line at SuperClash. Larry “The Axe” Hennig w/Curt Hennig v. “Dr. Death” David Schultz w/Bobby Heenan - Steel Chain Match Curt led his father to the ring, still sporting the foam neck collar. He talked to Larry once in the ring, going over last minute details as his opponent entered. Once the two men were linked up, Schultz spit at Curt causing Larry to crash into him with a hard right hand. This bloody match continued for the next 15-16 minutes and saw the chain become a crucial weapon. Heenan tried to trip up Larry, but the injured Curt scared Heenan away with a steel chair. In the end, Schultz used the distraction of his manager to utilize the chain with a clothesline, sending Larry down for the three count. After the match is over, Schultz continues to beat on Larry. Curt tries to intervene, but is batted down with a right hand wrapped in chain. The beating on Larry continues until Leon White barrels into the ring, driving Schultz and Heenan out. 20 Man Over-the-Top Battle Royal

Mad Dog Vachon
Jake Milliman
Brian Adidas
Buck Zumhofe
Kevin Kelly
Doug Somers
Steve Regal
Bobby Fulton
Barry Orton
Scott Hall
Brad Rheingans
Mr. Saito
Billy Robinson
Greg Gagne
Jim Brunzell
David Schultz
The Crusher
Baron Von Raschke
Blackjack Lanza
Jesse Ventura
Jesse Ventura won this grueling battle last eliminating Jim Brunzell. 1st Week, August 1983 Mid South Region - 713 fans AWA Wrestling Weekly- Non-Televised ================================================================ Tommy Rogers w/Bobby Fulton v. Teijho Khan w/Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissey Khan’s debut wasn’t anything to write home about. He was visibly sloppy in the match. Khan Gorilla Pressed Rogers and afterward, he turned toward Adnan with a goofy smile on his face. Pleased, Adnan order for a further beating of Rogers. Khan ascended the top rope and delivered a crushing Flying Headbutt for the victory. Adnan came into the ring and showcased his latest find for the fans. Barry Orton v. “Big” Scott Hall This match brought the fans down a bit even though Hall did his best to get them going. In the usual, mid-card opener, Hall won following a Running Powerslam. Jesse Ventura grabs Resnick and orders him into the ring. Ventura said that he was tired of proving himself “time after time” and demanded that Verne Gagne name him the number one contender to Hulk Hogan’s World Title. Verne Gagne came out and said that Jesse hasn’t done anything “in my eye’s” to grant him a title. Ventura told Verne that he could make things “around here very interesting for you ‘old man’”. ”Baby Bull” Leon White v. Mr. Saito w/Bobby Heenan White dominated the match early on, but the underhanded tactics of Saito brought the “Bull” to rest. In the end, Saito distracted the ref while Heenan threw a Fireball into White’s face, allowing Saito to get the three. Once Saito is announced as the winner, Dr. D joins his manager and Saito in the ring to continue a beat down on White. After busting the big man open, Larry Hennig emerges from the back with a chair. Curt Hennig v. Billy Robinson Robison attacks Curt before the bell and it was evident that Curt’s neck was still not in the best of conditions. Robinson picked up his first victory in some time by hitting a Piledriver. After the match, officials came out and checked on Curt. Not moving, they put a foam collar on him and stretchered him to the back. Baron Von Raschke & Rick Martel v. The Sheiks © w/Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissey - AWA World Tag Team Titles Raschke & Martel made for formidable opponents for the tag team champions. Patera & Blackwell, initially, were knocked off guard. After repeated, driving knee lifts by the Olympian into Martel, followed by brutal back shots slowed the Canadian down. The force of Patera and size of Blackwell allowed them to hold onto their titles once more. Dick The Bruiser w/The Crusher v. Blackjack Lanza w/Bobby Heenan These two veteran brawlers were unyielding on each other. The Crusher threatened Heenan several times on the floor. Unfortunately this drew the referee’s attention and as he was admonishing The Crusher, Heenan and Lanza worked over Bruiser. This wouldn’t last long as Lanza fell victim to The Knockout Punch from The Bruiser.

Brian Adidas Booked to give both guys more experience. Fulton tried to keep things fair by pointing out to the referee, that Adidas had used the ropes for leverage while having his partner locked in an abdominal stretch. It didn’t serve it’s purpose and he was warned by the referee. Adidas won by holding Rogers tights to pick up the win. Winner: Brian Adidas Rating: F After the match, AWA Light Heavyweight champion Buck Zumhofe came to ringside to tell Resnick, the fans, and most importantly, Brian Adidas, that he would grant Brian a match for the belt at the End-of-the-Month show. Bobby Fulton w/Tommy Rogers v. Masa Fuchi The Fantastics were busy telling the referee that Adidas used the tights to get the victory when Fuchi was announced. The crowd didn’t know how to react to the debuting wrestler as he made his way to the ring with purpose. Resnick & Marshall talked about Fuchi’s time in Tennessee and Texas and how he isn’t to be taken lightly. A good, fast paced match ended when Fuchi hit a Backdrop Suplex. Winner: Masa Fuchi Rating: E Verne Gagne made his way to the ring next. He was joined in the ring by Gene Okerland. Verne said that their currently was not a number one contender to the World Heavyweight Title. Gene spiced it up a bit by saying, “I know one man that would dispute that. Verne said that Jesse could dispute it, but the winner of the Mr. Saito/Brad Rheingans match at the End-of-the-Month Show would meet Hulk at Superclash. ”Big” Scott Hall v. Mr. Saito w/Bobby Heenan Saito continued his domination of his opponents in this match. He worked ell with Heenan, knowing when and where to distract the referee to allow Heenan to choke Hall. Scott fought back later in the match, but was unsuccessful in winning after a Saito Suplex from the brute Saito. Winner: Mr. Saito Rating: C- Heenan waved Resnick back into the ring. Ken looked intimidated by Saito as Heenan laughed, saying that he would finally have his promised revenge on Hulk Hogan. ”Jumpin’” Jim Brunzell v. Billy Robinson Brunzell looked as intense and energetic as always but was attacked by Billy. Marshall said that he had heard that Robinson was tired of the young, high flying guys getting more opportunities than the older, established guys and he was going to take it out on Jim. Robinson produced a foreign object from his tights and used it at every opportunity, keeping it concealed from the ref. The ref would go to make sure that Billy was hitting him clean and he would tuck it back into his tights. But, for poor Billy, Brunzell made a comeback and hit a Flying Cross Body Block for the win. Winners: The Youngbloods Rating: C Jesse Ventura makes his way to the ringside. He ignores a rising Resnick and finds Gene Okerland. Jesse tells Gene that Verne Gagne has made “the biggest mistake of his twilight years.” Rick Martel v. Blackjack Lanza w/Bobby Heenan The old dog Lanza threatened to use his bullrope on Martel but was stopped by the referee. Martel showed continued promise as he shocked Lanza who apparently thought he would get an easy match. Both Resnick & Marshall hyped “this young star from Quebec” as Martel hit a Bulldog on Lanza setting up a Flying Body Block. Winner: Rick Martel Rating: B Dick The Bruiser w/The Crusher v. “Dr. D” David Schultz w/Bobby Heenan After approximately four minutes, his match became a bar room brawl. The referee had no other option but to disqualify both men. Are you running dark matches? If not, I really commend you for that decision - especially where it relates to the 'house shows'; i.e., non-televised events. I can see television tapings having dark matches, as you can explain them as warming up the crowd, but I never use them in my non-televised events. Your booking is very similar to that of the AWA at the time. Well done, on that.

D. Boon: No I don't use dark matches. I dunno, I just see it as wasted booking for the main show. And thanks for the comments guys. I still have two more shows to write before I'm caught up with actual game time. On that post, I will start to provide ratings for angles too as well as general stuff around the wrestling world of importance. Just as an F.Y.I., I am going in an editing wrestler's deaths & big retirements that really occured. Dunno, I just see this as things that would probably have not been affected by Hogan winning the title :p.

Teijho Khan w/Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissey Khan pounded away on the veteran Jay at the direction of the diabolical Sheik Adnan. Khan tossed Jay through the ropes to the floor and stalked the referee while his manager stomped and hit Jay before tossing him back into the ring. Khan hit a Verticle Suplex to set up for a Flying Headbutt. Winner: Teijho Khan Rating: E Rick Martel hyped himself with Gene Okerland at ringside. Martel said that his goal in AWA is to win a title and to show the world the best that Canada has to offer. He said that he will use his speed to get a victory over Kevin Kelly tonight. Brad Rheingans v. Billy Robinson Billy continued his cheating ways from last week, again using the hidden foreign object. After a solid technical match, Brad hit a Cradle Suplex for the win. Winner: Brad Rheingans Rating: C+ As he celebrated, Rheingans was attacked by Mr. Saito and David Schultz. Resnick & Marshall agreed that Verne Gagne should do something about this. After a five minute break from the action, Gene Okerland welcomed his guest’s, the AWA World Tag Team Champions with their manager. The crowd didn’t like it but Adnan didn’t seem to care. Adnan said that it would be an honor for his men to destroy The Youngbloods at the very first closed circuit (PPV) AWA event, SuperClash. The High Flyers v. The Sheiks © w/Sheik Adnan Al Kaissey - AWA World Tag Tea Titles In the first rematch for the titles for Brunzell & Gagne, Patera continued his brute, unyielding hammering of both men. The referee stepped in and warned Patera about this behavior, but figuring he would still be a tag champion if he was disqualified, Patera left Brunzell in a heap following a vicious Shoulerbreaker. Having had his “fun”, Patera left it up to his partner to finish the match up. Winners: The Sheiks Rating: A Rick Martel v. Kevin Kelly Kelly acted arrogantly toward the referee as he checked Kevin for foreign objects. Kelly watched Martel closely and attacked the instant Rick was in the ring. Martel turned the tables quickly, sending Kelly to the floor in anger. The match went on and saw Martel score the victory with a Flying Cross Body. Winner: Rick Martel Rating: B- A smiling Bobby Heenan greets Gene Okerland inside the ring. Gene asks Bobby why he has summoned him. Bobby said that ever since Nick Bockwinkle lost the AWA World Title to Hulk Hogan, he had been thinking of how to pay Hogan back. Bobby said that Nick had decided to go on a vacation for a few months and that’s why he hasn’t been around. Heenan went on to say that the other members of The Heenan Family have their own issues and rivalries going on to be effective against Hogan. “So, I went out to the deepest, darkest reaches of Minnesota and found someone who is purely barbaric. Gene, allow me to introduce to you, the newest member of The Heenan Family and the man who will put Hulk Hogan on the shelf permanently, King Kong Brody!” Brody came to the ring and stopped around, holding his hand out, and yelling “Huss! Huss!” as The Brain finished. Blackjack Lanza w/Bobby Heenan v. Larry “The Axe” Hennig A classic brawl between two old time wrestlers. Heenan sat down briefly to hype King Kong Brody with Marshall & Resnick before returning to his duties. Hennig won the encounter following an Axe Bomber. Winner: Larry Hennig Rating: B Hulk Hogan © v. “Dr. Death” David Schultz w/Bobby Heenan - AWA World Heavyweight Title Hogan took it to Schultz with right hands and chops before whipping him into the ropes. Hogan attempted an early Big Boot but Schultz bailed to the floor where he regrouped with his manager. Schultz later beat Hogan down, busting the champion open. Because Schultz ignored the referee to stop the beating, he called for the bell and awarded the match to Hogan. Winner: Hulk Hogan by DQ Rating: A* Hogan was handed the belt as Heenan & Schultz waited on the floor for the rest of The Heenan Family. Heenan played head games with the champion as Brody stared Hogan down. ================== Overall Rating: A Attendance: 7,057 fans

4th Week, August 1983 Great Lakes Region - Michigan State Fairgrounds AWA Summer Tour Super Show- Non-Televised ================================================================ Before the beginning of the first match, a platinum blonde walks to the ring in the same vest that The Natural Blondes wear. Marshall & Resnick identify her as Sunshine. She enters the ring and sprays a can of perfume as her team is introduced. The Natural Blondes w/Sunshine v. The Fantastics - No Countout, No DQ, No Time Limit Match The Blondes talked in their corner as their opponents got a good reaction from the crowd. The match served to display good things to come from all four men. Regal won after a Roll Up and a handful of tights. Winners: The Natural Blondes Ratings: D Brian Adidas v. “Rock N’ Roll” Buck Zumhofe © - AWA Light Heavyweight Title Adidas attacked the champion before the bell and smacked him with his own boom box. Zumhofe had to be removed from his silver jumpsuit by the challenger. Adidas tried to work the fans into a frenzy, but they seemed uninterested in the bout. Somehow, after a savage beating by the Texan, Zumhofe planted Brian with a Verticle Suplex and followed it up with a Flying Splash to retain his title. Winner: Buck Zumhofe Rating: E Adidas didn’t give Zumhofe time to be announced as the winner and immediately attacked him with a steel chair. He shoved the referee aside as he smacked Zumhofe’s knee with the object. Zumhofe had to be helped to the back following the vicious attack. The Body Shop featuring Jesse “The Body” Ventura Ventura started off with a verbal attack on the World Champion before introducing his guest, Greg Gagne. The six minute long segment was geared toward a character attack on Greg’s father. Jesse baited Greg in with each question, frustrating Greg. Ventura asked Greg, “So how does it feel to have to take a backseat for your own father to a meaningless human being like Hulk Hogan?” This prompts Greg to sock Ventura. A brawl ensues with Jesse getting the best of Gagne. Brad Rheingans v. Mr. Saito w/Bobby Heenan - Number One Contender Match for the World Title A great technical match-up for the umpteenth time these two have met. Heenan was “on” at ringside further tormenting Brad. The end came when Brad hit a Bridging Belly-to-Back Suplex on Saito. Heenan jumped onto the ring apron, distracting the referee. Brad, getting at least a five or six count, finally let Saito go. He confronted the referee which bought Saito time to get a fireball out. As Brad turned he was blinded by the tactic and caught in a Saito Suplex. The ref turned in time to count Brad down. Winner: Mr. Saito Rating: C+ Barry Orton v. “Big” Scott Hall A filler match. Basic grapple and pound affair that saw Hall take the victory following a Fall Away Body Slam. Winner: Scott Hall Rating: E Rick Martel & Baron Von Raschke v. The Sheiks © w/Adnan Al-Kaissey - AWA World Tag Team Titles This match was a re-match from earlier this month. Raschke & Martel gel nicely together and this may be an indicator that they will form a regular tag team. They took the champions to task, however Patera continued his vicious streak as he sent Martel crawling for a tag. Later in the match The Baron slapped The Claw on Blackwell. As Patera stepped I, prompting Martel to come in, the referee’s attention was turned. Adnan climbed in and whacked Raschke with a chair allowing his men to pin the downed fan favorite. Winners: the Sheiks Rating: C+ Blackjack Lanza w/Bobby Heenan v. Larry “The Axe” Hennig These two veterans continued their “tour matches” by brawling around the ring, in the crowd, and in the ring leaving both bloody. After a grueling battle that left both men looking tired, Lanza put on a black glove given to him by Heenan and waylaid Hennig to get the victory. Winner: Blackjack Lanza Rating: B- ”Baby Bull” Leon White v. “Dr. Death” David Schultz w/Bobby Heenan - Steel Chain Match After both wrestlers are “hooked up” with the chain, they collide in the center, pounding away using the device. Hennig was cheered on by the fans as he whipped Schultz into the corner and smashed into him with a clothesline. Much of the match was spent by both men either choking the other man with the chain, or using it to bust each other open. On the floor, Heenan looked worried but it wasn’t for long. Hennig wrapped the chain around the neck of Schultz and tossed him over the top rope, hanging him. Before consciousness slipped from the rule breaker, Hennig let go of the chokehold to stop Heenan from hitting him with a steel chair. He grabbed the chair and stalked Heenan who tripped and was pleading for him to stop. This allowed Schultz sometime to recover and he snuck up behind Larry and hit a low blow with the chain. This dropped the veteran and Schulz covered for the pin. Winner: David Schultz Rating: C King King Brody w/Bobby Heenan v. Hulk Hogan © - AWA World Heavyweight Title Marshall & Resnick say that this match was just recently signed. When the bell rang, Hogan did not know what to make of the “barbarian” that he was facing. He had to drop the attempts of locking up with Brody and went straight for the brawling route. The crowd was really gasping as the champion was picked up and body slammed with one arm by Brody. Heenan was beaming on the floor. Both men saw action on the floor as the bruiser, Brody, whipped Hogan into the security barricade and later into the steel post. This busted the champ open as Heenan stood over him laughing. The referee, not wanting to call for the bell, went to the floor and pleaded with Heenan to call his monster off. As they discussed this, Brody slammed a steel chair into the head of Hogan. He followed it up by rolling the blonde, now dripping with blood, into the ring. Hogan never was able to make a comeback and Brody continued his destructive assault with the chair. The referee had no choice but to DQ the monster. Surprisingly, it didn’t seem as Heenan cared if Brody was DQ’ed; he continued to bark orders for the big man to slam away at Hogan with the chair. Winner: Hulk Hogan by DQ Rating: B ================== Overall Rating: C- Attendance: 760 fans Notes: This didn’t help our popularity in the Great Lakes Region. In other news of wrestling importance, Larry Zbyszko wins the NWA World Heavyweight Title from Ric Flair the next night.

4th Week, August 1983 Great Lakes Region - Dickens Athletic Center, Chicago, IL AWA Wrestling Weekly- Non-Televised ================================================================ Brian Adidas walked to ringside carrying a steel chair. He told Resnick & Marshall that he felt good about what he did to Buck Zumhofe and would do it again. Adidas said, “But next time, he won’t be able to walk.” Rating: E Brian Adidas v. Jake Milliman The match did not excite the fans as both men tried to get them fired up. A sloppy match that saw Adidas use his feet on the ropes to get the win. Rating: F Time: 4:41 Tommy Rogers v. Masa Fuchi Fuchi went to the air more often than he has in the past. Fuchi really works a stiff, strong style which Rogers is probably regretting. Rogers thought he had the lightweight beat, however Fuchi hit a Backdrop Suplex to pick up the win. Rating: E Time: 4:12 Barry Orton v. “Baby Bull” Leon White Another ho-hum match. Orton attacked Bull before the bell but it didn’t help his cause. It was an awkward bout as the styles didn’t mesh. White put Orton away with a Big Elbow Drop. Rating: D Time:3:34 A video replaying the end of the Hogan/Brody match was shown. Marshall & Resnick talked about the resulting injury to Hogan’s shoulder and what this may mean to his match against Mr. Saito. Walking out smiling, Heenan & Saito walk over to Resnick and ask him if he enjoyed that match. Resnick responded and then asked Heenan why he allowed a disqualification. Heenan, looking surprised answered. He said, “That display was meant to soften Hogan up not take the title from him. He’s hurt; he’s morally broken. Resnick, I don’t expect you to understand the plans The Heenan Family has for Hogan, but soon, soon everything will be clear as glass.” Rating: B- Mr. Saito w/Bobby Heenan v. Bobby Fulton Saito worked The Fantastic over heavily in the match, and Fulton never got any real offense in. He looked exhausted toward the end when Saito hit a Saito Suplex for the win. Rating: D Time: 7:26 Billy Robinson v. Rick Martel Martel used his high flying to get him over in this match. Because of his playing to the fans he was able to boost his performance ability. Robinson attempted a Back Suplex, but Martel flipped out of it, hit the ropes, and landed with a dropkick. He followed up with a High Cross Body for the win. Rating: C+ Time: 5:32 Resnick waited for the fans, especially females, to quiet down before he spoke to Martel. Martel hyped himself and thanked the fans for their support. He said that the newly announced AWA United States Heavyweight Title is really exciting for him and he hopes that he will compete for it. Before he could finish, Blackjack Lanza came out and called Martel a “punk”. He said that the only person that would be wearing the belt would be an actual American like himself. Rating: C+ Jesse Ventura came to the ring, very flamboyantly, his attire reminiscent of a young Billy Graham. As he stepped into the ring with Gene Okerland, ring attendants set up an Arm Wrestling table in the center of the ring with two chairs. He told Okerland that he was the “new” Arm Wrestling Champion of the World having won that title in Rio De Janeiro. He said that he would demonstrate his strength tonight against his opponent, Jim Brunzell. He continued by talking trash about Hulk Hogan, Greg, and Vern Gagne, and Stanley Blackburn. Brunzell came to the ring, ready for action. Arm Wrestling Challenge: Jim Brunzell v. Jesse “The Body” Ventura The two locked up and Jesse continued to talk trash to Gene. He told Gene to look at his 22 inch arms and said that he is the only true champion. He slammed Brunzell’s arm down, knocking the High Flyer out of his chair in the process. Ventura concluded the interview and told Brunzell to get ready for their wrestling match. Rating: B- Jim Brunzell v. Jesse “The Body” Ventura Ventura toyed with Brunzell asking him to Body Slam him. Ventura stiffened his body making it impossible for Jim to do so. This allowed Ventura to crash down on his opponent’s back with a forearm. Ventura posed before continuing his assault on Brunzell and finishing off the match with a Body Vice. Rating: C+ Time: 3:35 ================== Overall Rating: C Attendance: 1,158 fans

End of August Wrestling News & Notes American Wrestling Association - Relief comes in the form of getting AWA All-Star Wrestling back on the air. We lost our spot back in July. TV Local - Mid West decided to take a chance on us. Tapings for the show will be held on Monday's to be aired on Tuesday night's at 11:00pm. It's not the most ideal tv spot for us, considering our fan base are blue-collar fans who have been asleep for a few hours at that time, but we're hoping for the best. Rod Trongaard will be joining Lee Marshall & Ken Resnick for the three voices of this program. - The AWA United States Heavyweight Title has been revived and the eight man tournament will be held at SuperClash at the end of September. The title's lineage goes back to the 50's & 60's where it was known as the NWA United States Title (Chicago & Minneapolis versions) until the formation of the AWA. It was retired in 1962 when Marty Miller won the AWA World Title. It will be used as a midcard level belt. - We have signed "Butcher" Paul Vachon. He will join his brother "Mad Dog" Maurice Vachon as The Vachons. Becuase of his signing, Mad Dog has agreed to work full time, however I've been strongly urged to gradually phase him out of the main event spot. The reuinion has rekindled The Crusher & Dick The Bruiser's interest in a program with them. - The War with CWA continues. They have been lossing momentuum and may be ready to work with us again. They lost their TV show and now are floundering. Being a member of the National Wrestling Alliance may aid them, but without a television presence, it looks as though their time has come. Already we have contacted The Fabulous One's for a possible Pay Per appearance deal. Currently they hold the NWA Southern Tag Team Titles. - Finacially we are doing great. The profits are more than the expenses and 1984 looks to be our year. We can attribute this to holding the weekly "AWA Wrestling Weekly" shows. A debate was sparked with "AWA All-Star Wrestling" going back on the air if we would continue the Weekly, non-televised shows. Seeing no reason to stop the weekly events, they will continue. - With the re-instatement of the US Title, there was also debate to suspend or retire the AWA Light Heavyweight Title. Currently, this title will continue to be recognized and fought for alongside the three other titles. - Brian Adidas's behavior has been improved. He hasn't been tardy to any show since he was fined. ============================== Other wrestling News - It was reported that Larry Zybszko had won the NWA World Heavyweight Title from Ric Flair. Larry's win only lasted a week as Sgt. Slaughter took the title from him at the August Clash of the Champion's. It's interesting that the NWA Board of Director's chose to have such a quick change like this. - NWA All-Star Wrestling (The Vancouver territory) has gone out of business. Owner Al Tomko has contacted several organizations looking for work. - NWA Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling are making their presence felt in the Great lakes Region. We are definatley keeping our eye's on this. - Likewise, the World Wrestling Federation is holding shows in the South East Region. this might be leading to some of CWA's problems. Bob Backlund has yet to lose the WWF Title.
