The League: A Multiplayer WS3 Experience

Recommended Posts

I don't always post these, but for the first week, I think I feel justified.

WEEK ONE SPOILERS

The first Match of the Night of the new season is one of only two 3-star matches this week, runs almost 21 minutes, and features the first "Dramatic Comeback" I've seen since picking up the game on launch day.

Shortest match of the night was 6:00 even, and ended abruptly. It's a divisional match and I hope the rematch goes much, much longer. I was sad to see it end that quickly.

Fairly balanced match ratings all around, mainly two-stars with a couple of threes and a trio of one-star affairs.

Only one submission finish out of ten matches.

Matches without commentary and formatting ran 26 pages; I'm betting it'll end up around 35 by the time I add everything I plan to.

That's all I'm giving you this week; I'll see you back here tomorrow night for the first show of the new era!

Looking forward to it.

All it takes to start a revolution is an idea, or a single action. Three years ago, one wrestling company decided to start a revolution, to tear the curtain of kayfabe away from the cameras and bring true meaning to "professional" wrestling. No longer were the results determined beforehand. No longer did backstage politicking dictate where one appeared on the card. Only the talent and abilities would get you ahead.

The League of Professional Wrestling, as it came to be known, lasted for just over two years before outside pressure from the larger, more well-known wrestling companies forced them to shutter their doors. For a year, wrestling has stagnated, as those same companies refuse to innovate, to bring a breath of fresh air back to professional wrestling.

It's time that was changed. For over a year, new ideas have taken hold; new wrestlers and veterans alike have agreed to put themselves back to the test. Now, those wrestlers begin the quest for ultimate glory, and the right to truly be called a wrestling champion. Tonight, the revolution begins anew, for tonight, we rise up once more...and re-form The League.

THE LEAGUE: SEASON SEVEN, WEEK ONE

The arena erupts into loud ovations as the requisite pyrotechnic show opens the first broadcast of The League's new run. It is a lively crowd that is still filling in to their seats as the camera pans around to look at some of the audience in attendance. A number of signs proclaim the fans' loyalty for some of the returning League veterans, and more than a couple for some of the debuting rookies. After a few moments of this, the camera cuts to ringside and our three-person announce crew.

Bob Sinclair: It's been over a year, but finally, The League is back on the air! Hello, everyone, and welcome to St. Louis! I'm Bob Sinclair, joined here at ringside by "The Real Deal" Frankie Garnett, as well as Tori Montgomery. Tonight is the night, guys!

Tori Montgomery: Man, what a feeling it is to be back on the air, Bob! I know these fans are as excited as everyone backstage, and you can feel the energy in here tonight!

Frankie Garnett: I have to say...I kind of missed this.

Tori Montgomery: What, the excitement?

Frankie Garnett: No, the fact that I couldn't bet on Sean! Thank God he's come back!

Bob Sinclair: Nonetheless, we have ten matches on tap for you tonight, with some familiar faces to our longtime viewers and a number of League rookies looking to shake things up...

Frankie Garnett: Uh, Bob, did you fall asleep over there?

Bob Sinclair: Guys, I'm getting word that we have something going on backstage!

Frankie Garnett: The heck? I thought we were better than SW—

Tori Montgomery: Frankie, I think this is something serious! Get a camera back there!

Backstage

Thankfully, Tori's request is quickly fulfilled as a cameraman rushes backstage. The image on-screen jostles repeatedly as the crew member runs toward the apparent source of the disturbance, which is quickly shown to be a knot of people all talking at once and surrounding a figure who lies prone on the floor.

Bob Sinclair: What in the?

Tori Montgomery: Not even to our first match and already there's chaos!

Frankie Garnett: Ooh, this just got good....

The cameraman starts trying to press his way through the throng, trying to get a view of the individual who is the center of all this attention. As he finally breaks through, the camera gets a look at the individual on the floor—and then cuts out a second later. That second is enough for the viewers to see that it is Master Imoka who is laid out on the floor. His right leg is clearly broken in at least two places, and some blood could be seen pooling underneath his head. Abruptly, the camera returns to ringside and our announce crew.

Bob Sinclair: Folks, we apologize for the graphic image we just displayed. We weren't aware how bad it was.

Frankie Garnett: Anyone else get the feeling that Wallbanger Jones is behind this?

Tori Montgomery: Frankie, 'Banger's locker room is on the opposite side of the building from where they were. I highly doubt he was behind it.

Frankie Garnett: Then who was?

Bob Sinclair: The more important question, though, is how will this affect the Imoka/Jones match tonight? Master Imoka is clearly in no condition to compete; does that mean that Wallbanger wins by default?

Tori Montgomery: Tell you what, Bob, I'll go back and see if I can find out.

Tori removes her headset and stands up from the announce table, moving quickly toward the backstage area.

Frankie Garnett: Hell of a way to start the night, eh Bob?

Bob Sinclair: No kidding....

Thor Hammerskald vs. Eidenhoek

Disturbed's "Indestructible" hits the arena as a pair of wildly different figures emerge from backstage. In front is a dwarf, dressed for combat in a wrestling singlet, and behind him is a giant of a man, seven-feet plus (and nearly as wide). The pair walk to the ring, and the smaller man climbs up the steps and enters the ring while the giant walks around the ring once, getting a view from all angles before settling in the corner of his charge.

Amelia Williams: Ladies and gentlemen, our opening contest of Season Seven is an Alpha Division bout scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, being accompanied by Connor Reed, from Tanzania, weighing 102 pounds...Eidenhoek!

Frankie Garnett: Bob, are my eyes deceiving me or is the midget the one entering the ring instead of the giant?

Bob Sinclair: I'm...at a loss to explain it myself, Frankie. This makes no sense to me at all.

Anthrax's "Blood" hits the speakers, to a decent ovation he emerges from backstage, looking every bit the part of a Viking warrior as he strides to the ring with a determined look on his face...and scattering some of the fans away from the entrance ramp as he turns to glare at them. Making sure the fans are sufficiently cowed, he climbs the steps and enters the ring, his eyes never leaving the middle of the ring as he takes off his entrance gear and holds aloft his title belt for all to see.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Oslo, Norway, weighing 310 pounds, he is the reigning and defending League Champion...Thor Hammerskald!

Bob Sinclair: As Amelia mentioned, Thor is the defending League Champion, and as a reward got to pick his division for this season.

Frankie Garnett: And the fact that he put a midget in his division says everything about his ethics.

Bob Sinclair: This coming from the guy who managed him for two seasons?

Frankie Garnett: And who would know better?

Bob Sinclair: Oh, brother....

Scott Stevens vs. Judah Snow

the opening strains of "God's Gonna Cut You Down" by The Gaslight Anthem hit the arena as a bright spotlight shines on the entrance way. A large figure steps through, completely ignoring the jeers from the fans as he stalks determinedly towards the ring. A lone fan tries to slap his shoulder, and he turns, snarling as the fan scurries away in fear of his life. The distraction aside, he makes his way to the ring and climbs inside, his eyes never leaving the middle of the ring.

Amelia Williams: Our next bout is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, weighing 288 pounds..."The Bastard" Judah Snow!

Frankie Garnett: I'll tell you, Bob, Judah Snow is one I'm keeping my eye on this season. I think the guy's going places!

Bob Sinclair: You're just saying that so he doesn't beat you down, right?

Frankie Garnett: Kinda sorta, maybe....

The lights in the arena go pitch black, as red lasers and spotlights light up the area. The video screen lights up and flashes across the screen, "Nothing survives my sting!" The crowd starts booing, but it’s not just a normal level of booing. It’s a booing of pure hatred. Chris Benoit level booing as an electric guitar wails throughout the PA system and the words of Dave Mustaine's voice echoes throughout the arena, "As I climb onto your back, I will promise not to sting. I will, tell you what you want to hear and not mean anything. Then I, treat you like a dog, as I shoot my venom in. You pretend you didn't know, that I am The Scorpion, whoa!" The jeering intensifies as the instrumental after the chorus hits the speakers, drawing out "The Venomous One" Scott Stevens and his sinister, yet beautiful wife, Lisa Barbosa-Stevens. They stand at the top of the ramp and kiss each other to the delight of the crowd. Walking down the aisle, Scott talks trash the entire way while raising a fist at a few of the more vocal bashers and Lisa flicks off the ignorant fans asking her to show her boobs. As they reach the ring, Lisa kisses her husband's cheek before he finally gets to the ring. Once in the ring he climbs the nearest turnbuckle and stares down at the crowd, an icy glare and the throat slash gesture his only actions as he drops to the mat while Lisa cheers him on.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, being accompanied by his wife, Lisa Barbosa-Stevens, he hails from Houston, Texas, weighing in at 256 pounds...He is "The Scorpion" Scott Stevens!

Bob Sinclair: After a lot of talking about her, Stevens finally has his wife joining him at ringside for League competition.

Frankie Garnett: Which means nothing is going to stop him from winning the League Championship! Put together, those two can do anything!

William King vs. El Super Mantis

William King

The ominous intro of Bloodbath's "The Soulcollector" is heard as the lights dim, and when the lyrics begin William King comes out in his black pleather ring gear and a hoodie, taking his time and circling the ring before rolling in, standing on the second rope and unzipping his hoodie to reveal the tanktop underneath, slipping the jacket off and throwing it at the announcers before dropping into the ring, leaning against the corner.

Amelia Williams: This is a Gamma Division match scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Arkham, Massachusetts, weighing 260 pounds...William King!

Frankie Garnett: Here's another guy I've got my eye on this season. I like his attitude!

Bob Sinclair: King certainly has an attitude, he truly believes that everyone else in The League is only there to be sacrificed to him.

Frankie Garnett: And why not? If you don't believe in yourself, no one else will!

Queen's "Hammer to Fall" hits the speakers to a decent ovation as Britain's greatest (and admittedly, only) Luchadore emerges from the back, with his manager in tow. Adjusting his mask one last time, he nods to his manager and dashes towards the ring, slowing as he climbs the steps and somersaulting over the top rope. Landing on his feet, he gives a heartly "Ole!" (complete with heavy British accent) to the crowd, who still soak it up and cheer as his manager finally makes it to ringside.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, accompanied to the ring by Lee Brae, from Mexico City, Mexico by way of Bristol, England, weighing 242 pounds...El Super Mantis!

Bob Sinclair: Mantis is certainly an...interesting character, wouldn't you say, Frankie?

Frankie Garnett: The guy's a certifiable nut job! How many luchadores have a British accent?

Bob Sinclair: Not many.

Frankie Garnett: There's a reason for that! Luchadores are not inherently Brits! This is an abomination!

The camera shifts to backstage, where we find Tori Montgomery talking with the Commissioner of The League, Colt Marshall.

Colt Marshall: I'm not sure we have any other choice, Tori. Tori Montgomery: So...what, are we going to have byes in that division now? How is that fair?

Colt Marshall: And just what are you doing here?!

Tori Montgomery: Then get going!

Demonio simply grunts and turns, leaving the camera shot. Marshall looks again at the paperwork, head tilted slightly.

Colt Marshall: This almost feels like it was planned....

Bob Sinclair: How about that, Frankie?! El Demonio de Sangre makes a surprise appearance, and has taken over the spot of the injured Master Imoka!

Frankie Garnett: I'd be more excited if it was someone who had more than a handful of wins in two seasons....

Bob Sinclair: Stay tuned, folks! It's Demonio versus Wallbanger, next!

El Demonio de Sangre vs. Wallbanger Jones

Disturbed's "Warrior" begins to blare from the house speakers, heralding our next combatant the ring. Garbed in dark biker leathers with a black bandana and a pair of shades, his look clearly screams "I will break you if you so much as look at me funny." Thus, it's not surprising that most of the fans keep their hands to themselves and settle for anonymous taunts as he strolls to the ring and ducks between the ropes.

Amelia Williams: This is a Beta Division contest scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from the nearest road house, weighing 306 pounds...Wallbanger Jones!

Bob Sinclair: One has to think that Banger is not very happy right now. He's got a totally different opponent than he planned for!

Frankie Garnett: Look at his face, Bob. Does he look like he gives a care?

Bob Sinclair: Hmmm. Good point.

The driving metal of Slayer's "Raining Blood" hit the speakers as the luchador emerges from backstage. His mask is obscured by the smoke billowing around him, and it is a blood-red spotlight that follows him to the ring as he hops over the top rope and paces back and forth, waiting impatiently for the match to begin.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Tijuana, Mexico, weighing 142 pounds...he is El Demonio de Sangre!

Bob Sinclair: For those of you who may not be up to speed with League history, Demonio only has four wins in two full seasons in The League, and has not been seen in a League ring since the end of Season Three.

Frankie Garnett: So it makes no sense why he's coming back! This is a serious downgrade for The League, losing a contender like Imoka and getting Demonio in return!

AC/DC's "The Razor's Edge" hits to a cascade of jeers as the masked Canadian emerges from backstage, with his manager in tow. Both men seem determined to head to the ring, and not pay attention to the fans as of yet. Reaching the ring, the masked man leaps over the rope, seemingly ready to rumble.

Amelia Williams: This contest is a Beta Division match scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, accompanied by Marc Pearson, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, weighing 220 pounds...Razor Sharp!

Bob Sinclair: We've heard nothing from Razor's training camp since he joined up; he may have been trying to hide his preparations from the rest of The League.

Frankie Garnett: Not like he'll need it against the oaf he's facing tonight!

Within Temptation's "Stand My Ground" hits the arena speakers as the reigning League Champion emerges from the back, through a wall of flame pyro. His face gives no emotions away as he walks to the ring, stopping at the ring steps. A moment later, he slams both fists into the second-highest step before looking up the heavens with a cry of "For the Fallen" coming from his lips. With no further ado, he heads up the steps and steps between the ropes, ready to go to war once again. At ringside, Tori drops her headset to the table and walks towards his corner, her mental transition from color commentator to manager complete.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, joined at ringside by Tori Montgomery, from the End of Nowhere, weighing 337 pounds...this is The Phoenix!

Bob Sinclair: Arguably the most decorated League member in its history, this is probably one of the toughest draws for the rookie to get tonight.

Motorhead's "Ace of Spades" hits to a decent ovation as the youngest competitor in the history of The League emerges, letting the music give her energy as she stares down the entrance ramp at the ring. Then, with a grin and a wink towards the camera, she sprints to the ring, leaping up to slide headfirst under the bottom rope. She uses her momentum to roll to her feet and head toward the turnbuckle, climbing onto the middle rope to garner more cheers before dropping back to the mat and preparing to face her opponent.

Amelia Williams: The following is a Delta Division bout scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Tokyo, japan, weighing 101 pounds...Sakura Toyota!

Frankie Garnett: Hey!

"Don't Cha" hits the arena to a loud reaction as The League's first female member emerges from backstage. There is a confident smirk on her face as she talks trash with some of the louder fans before sprinting into the ring by diving under the bottom rope. As she stands, she proceeds to the corner nearest the announce table, hands thrown in the air as the soaks in the crowd reaction while her manager stands outside, also applauding her client.

Amelia Williams: Her opponent, accompanied to the ring by Jayde, from Aberdeen, Scotland, weighing 137 pounds...Diamond!

Alex Kapranos vs. Amelia Midnight

The opening guitar licks of Franz Ferdinand's "Your Diary" echo through the arena as the lights dim except for a gold spotlight on the entrance way. A few seconds pass before the lyrics hit, and a few seconds after that, two men emerge from the back. The one on the right seems to be giving last-minute instructions to his companion, and as the music intensifies, they reach the ring. The manager remains on the outside, shouting encouragement as his charge enters the ring, shaking himself loose and preparing for the bout ahead.

Amelia Williams: This bout is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, being accompanied to the ring by Aaron Aaronson, from Gloucestershire, England, weighing 202 pounds...Alex Kapranos!

Bob Sinclair: Many people are saying that this is a family member of the musician of the same name, but I'm not sure I see a resemblance.

Frankie Garnett: I like his entrance theme. Maybe he should get his namesake to sing it for his entrance.

Tori Montgomery: Bob, you wanna tell him?

Frankie Garnett: Tell me what?

Bob Sinclair: Never mind, Frankie.

The opening chords of Evanescence's "Tourniquet" blare through the arena as the lights fall to darkness. Black lights highlight the entrance, and a lone figure can be seen emerging from backstage, the white lines on her outfit glowing a violet shade in the light. As the refrain of the song hits, she takes off in a sprint, leaping up to slide under the bottom rope. As she slows to a stop, she hops onto her feet and climbs the nearest turnbuckle, throwing a hand in the air as the lights revert to normal.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Denver, Colorado, weighing 128 pounds...Amelia Midnight!

Bob Sinclair: In the waning days of the application period, a call went out to any "unknown" wrestler to submit a tape and have a chance to gain recognition with The League. Amelia's tape was picked out of several thousand entries, and when the application period closed with an odd number of entrants, Midnight got the call as the twentieth League member this season.

Frankie Garnett: Nothing about her really stands out to me...but is she really going to wrestle with those piercings on her face?

Tori Montgomery: Apparently so, Frankie. I'm curious to see what young Ms. Midnight brings to the ring. In any case, there's the bell and this one is underway!

Connor Blackstone vs. Sean Lyaskaris

Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" hits the speakers barely a moment before our next competitor emerges from backstage. He makes no gestures to the fans, nor does he seem to showboat, as he stalks towards the ring and enters from the near side. Still ignoring the crowd, he removes his ring jacket and stands patiently in the corner, waiting for the bell to sound.

Amelia Williams: This is a Delta Division contest scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from San Jose, California, weighing 239 pounds..."All Business" Connor Blackstone!

Bob Sinclair: Blackstone's moniker is "All Business," and it certainly seems like he fits that role here as he waits for his opponent to come out.

Tori Montgomery: Very little wasted movement from the rookie, and I think this should be one heck of a fight right here.

Frankie Garnett: Look, I might like the rook, but let's be honest. There's a reason you always bet on his opponent.

Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell" hits the arena speakers, as strobe lights begin to flash in the entryway. Fog rolls in from the entrance proper as a figure emerges, walking slowly to the ring and mentally preparing for what's ahead of him. He slides in under the bottom rope and walks over to one of the nearby turnbuckles, leaning up against them as the song fades.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Charlotte, North Carolina, by way of Osaka, Japan, weighing 230 pounds..."The Gaijin Crippler," Sean Lyaskaris!

Bob Sinclair: Sean rejoins the League after a couple tours of Japan, and he looks as fierce as ever.

Tori Montgomery: Gone is the "Hollywood" gimmick, what remains is someone who, as his nickname implies, will not hesitate to cripple you.

Frankie Garnett: I'm calling it now, Sean wins this season and becomes a two-time League champion!

Celeste Skye vs. Deathseed5

The driving beat of Children of Bodom's "Warheart" precede our next competitor's entrance into the arena. She looks rather confident, as her uncle leans in to impart some words of wisdom. With a nod, she smiles and sprints towards the ring, leaping high enough to clear the bottom rope and tuck into a roll, popping to her feet to a decent ovation as she appeals to the fans. At ringside, her uncle finally gets into position and watches from her corner, looking for as much exposure as he can in this instance.

Amelia Williams: The following contest is our main event of the evening, scheduled for one fall in the Alpha Division! Introducing first, accompanied by Daichi Tsukuda, from Hollywood, California, weighing 132 pounds...Celeste Skye!

Frankie Garnett: Now that...that's what I expect a starlet to look like!

Bob Sinclair: Skye joins the League looking to use the fame to catapult her into Hollywood stardom.

Tori Montgomery: She has the looks, we'll see if she has the talent to match.

The sound of a lightning strike precedes the lights in the arena going out. Saliva's "King of My World" hits the speakers, prompting some of the lights to flash back on in the arena. A figure stands in the entrance way, facing away from the ring with a fist raised in the air, wearing a jacket that is flashing with lights built into it. Turning towards the ring, he immediately makes his way towards it, stopping every now and then to talk smack to those in the crowd he feels are beneath him. As he finally reaches the ring, he climbs one of the turnbuckles, flashing a straight-edge sign as he climbs down into the ring and sits against the turnbuckles, ready to save another opponent.

Amelia Williams: Her opponent, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, weighing 248 pounds...Deathseed5!

Any formatting issues will be fixed as soon as I figure out why my netbook charger isn't working. My netbook is out of battery, my main laptop charger doesn't work, and now the netbook charger is messed up (and trying to use my phone reboots the browser). I think the Fates are trying to tell me something.

EDIT: This also means that all webpages will be updated tomorrow. For some reason the charger works now but I don't trust it as far as I could throw it. Would rather wait to get a reliable one before chancing not getting web pages updated before it dies.

@CallOfKing I have video evidence that proves my foot was under the ropes. But one stolen match won't matter.

@CallOfKing I will knock Templeton out. Not just out of his match, but out of his career. #CarpeMundusPerJugulum #WhyDoTheyComeToMeToDie

"I'll come out & say it. I screwed up. I took it easy b/c I was facing a GIRL & that came back to haunt me. Instead of complaining & using some excuse like Mocha Latte, I'm going to get ready for next time. Phoenix, get ready. B/c not only will I save you, but I'll put your title hopes on Comatose. & Skye, the next time we meet, I'll put you in the hospital like Mocha Latte. Now get out of my face w/ that." -DS5 postmatch

Gorilla position, post match

(Throwing the curtain back, Nuclear Templeton storms from the arena to the backstage position with the roar of the crowd on his back and a win by his name. Spying a cameraman, he uncharacteristically strides over and pulls it close to his face, shouting out a message...)

Nuclear: "Did you see that out there? I'm back and I'm more dangerous than ever. If anyone had any doubts about my chances to win it all this season, they are GONE! Next week I've got a Last Man Standing match with William King. My advice to you... stay down! Just like Beast out there tonight, I'm going to punch you in the face until you do. And if you don't, then fear the Power Surge. Fear the Mushroom Cloud. Fear the Apocalypse Now and for the love of everything you hold dead, Fear the Armageddon Lariat! You're next!"

(Nuclear stomps off victorious, full of the dangerous fuel of fire and adrenalin that will surely see him celebrating long into the small hours tonight before he gets ready for another big match next week.)

-------------------------------

OOC Note: Seriously, Nuclear will punch you in the face until you give up. Give up now, you have such a nice face. :p
