Training Camp

During the offseason, Coach Demarco was on leave of absence doing some things for the upcoming football season. Meanwhile, the old Offensive Coach from 2008, Coach Camacho came back to coach the offense while the other coach felt like it was time for a leave. Turns out, he was being paid 375k a year, and wanted 550k. Nobody picked him up though. The new coach is getting paid 350k. Coach Dobbins (DC) is still here, has been for 2 years in a row now, while Coach Daniel has been here all three years that Coach Demarco has. Coach Dobbins, Camacho, and Coach Daniel all worked with the team through the offseason.

Coach Demarco set down with the Athletic Board, who told him that the expectations for the year was winning the Sun Belt conference, and defeating Troy, as well as keeping their fingers crossed for a good bowl game this year. I think they are finally getting the message that our team is for real.

As for a roster breakdown, Coach went over it as well. We have:

Seniors: 19

Juniors: 15

Sophmores: 16

Freshmen: 33

Out of 24 starting positions, 12 are Seniors (pretty much the entire offense is), 7 are Juniors, 4 are Sophmores, and 1 Freshman (our Kicker.) That means this year, we'll be pretty beastly. Next year, probably not.

During the Training Camp, some notable changes to the roster happened:

QB James Givens was having some off-the-field issues. QB Frank Silva could easily take that starting position if James' head isn't in it.

Also during the Training Camp as Coach finished making calls and flying around to make our schedule complete, he came back and we all had a meeting. Coach asked the team how they felt about playing against a #1 National Champion Michigan last season. Everybody agreed, they enjoyed it and think they could have won. Coach smiled, because not only do they have a chance to play #1 Michigan again, but also #18 Texas Tech who beat us for the New Orleans Bowl in 2008, as well as #5 Purdue. We also have an amazing Texas Christian team who wants to battle it out with us for the best Christian School award. Needless to say, this was not looking like it will be an easy season for any of us. Here's our schedule:

Week 1: at East Carolina

Week 2: at #18 Texas Tech

Week 3: at #1 Michigan

Week 4: Off

Week 5: Florida Atlantic

Week 6: at Louisiana-Laf

Week 7: Arkansas State

Week 8: Louisiana-Monroe

Week 9: Off

Week 10: at Troy

Week 11: at Florida Int.

Week 12: North Texas

Week 13: at Texas Christian

Week 14: Off

Week 15: at #5 Purdue

(0-0) Geneva Bible vs. (0-0) East Carolina

Our first match was against ECU, in which we went out hard and strong, and didn't let up the entire game. It started with an interception run back for a touchdown by us, followed by a RB Ingram and FB Chen run for back to back touchdowns, a field goal from us, and a field goal from them, and it was 24-3 at the half. 4 interceptions and 3 fumbles later, our defense never let up. Givens met Dunn in the end zone for another 7 in the 3rd, Buffington knocked two more field goals in, and Silva went in there to throw the final touchdown to TE Collins to finish the game, 44-3.

QB Givens started this game, going 11/20 for 144 yards and 1 touchdown.

QB Ware and QB Silva both got a few passes off.

RB Ingram ran 30 times for 173 yards and 1 touchdown.

OLB G. Fong was the defensive player of the game, with 6 tackles, 2 stuffs, 2 hurries, and a pass deflection.

FS L. Jackson had 9 tackles and 1 stuff.

(1-0) Geneva Bible vs. (1-0) #17 Texas Tech

Our second game, Revenge is what we tasted, and revenge is what we got. A field goal in the first took an early lead for us, followed by two more in the second. A field goal by Texas Tech, and it was 9-3 going into the half with us leading. A nail biter for sure, until Texas Tech lit us up with a huge gain followed by a touchdown. 10-9. RB Ingram ran it in for a touchdown, but our 2 point conversion failed, 15-10. Texas Tech however just would not let up, going into the fourth they connected with a 69 yard pass for a touchdown, and they got the 2 point conversion! 18-15 Texas Tech. With 1:51 left on the playclock, Buffington nails a 44 yarder to tie it up! 18-18, and we're going into overtime. Texas Tech gets the ball first, we get a stop, puch it up the field, and Buffington hits a 40 yarder this time for the win! 21-18, Geneva!

QB J. Givens started again going 9/25 for 127 yards. QB Silva got a pass in.

RB Ingram ran 34 times for 127 yards and 1 touchdown.

Our next matchup will be against a still #1 Michigan, and something tells me our luck won't be so tangible then. Michigan is a tough team to beat, one that is no push-over. They demonstrated that on us last season...

Week 3

We traveled to Michigan to play the #1 team in the world. After two major upsets against dangerous ECU and the Ranked Texas Tech team, the world was looking in to see if we could stop the #1 team from doing damage here tonight.

(2-0) Geneva Bible vs. (1-0) Michigan

During the 1st quarter, Michigan moved it up the field but we stopped them and forced them to kick a field goal twice, while our offense couldn't maneuver as well, being stopped and forced to punt twice. RB Ingram also fumbled in the 1st when we got the ball back going into the second. Michigan connected with another field goal, and finally they got their first touchdown halfway through the 2nd, bringing the score 16-0. RB Ingram made up for it for a touchdown of his own, putting 7 on the board, but Michigan found another way to the end zone and finished off with two more field goals before the half ended.

During the 3rd quarter, QB Ware threw a TD pass to WR Dunn, while Michigan matched their own touchdown. During the 4th, as time was running out, Michigan scored, then we scored with Ware passing to WR Sears, then Michigan scored again, then we scored again this time on a RB Ingram run. We stopped Michigan to a field goal, and scored with 0:38 when QB Givens threw a touchdown to TE Collins to end the game losing, 53-35.

QB A. Ware threw 11/21 for 142 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception.

RB N. Ingram ran 20 times for 75 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 fumbles.

Meanwhile the story of the game was on the #1 draft pick of this last year, QB M. Zimmerman who is the starting QB for Michigan, who went 36/38 for 584 yards and 4 touchdowns, a near perfect game for the freshman.

Texas Tech has dropped from #18 to #19, Michigan is still #1, while #5 Purdue has dropped to #6, yet they don't have a loss so far.

Week Five

Florida Atlantic came to our home this week. After a tough loss on the road to Michigan, our team was more than ready to come out and fight, and at our own home, we would not be defeated like that again. This was a match Coach told us, where we would be putting everything we had into it.

(1-3) Florida Atlantic vs. (2-1) Geneva Bible

We started the 1st quarter hard, with two TD runs from RB Ingram, and FAU kicked a field goal. In the second, FAU got a touchdown of their own which only fired us up more. QB Ware found WR Sears in the end zone for a touchdown, then FS L. Jackson forced the ball out of the hands of the FAU WR, and ran it back 54 yards for a touchdown. It didn't stop there however as QB Ware found TE Austin in the end zone for a TD. FAU got one final touchdown in before the half ended.

In the beginning of the 3rd, QB Ware found WR Sears in the end zone again, and Buffington kicked a field goal. In the 4th, we ended the game with two field goals from Buffington. We won the game, and the final score was 51-17.

QB Anthony Ware started this game, throwing 24/34 times for 224 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception.

RB Ingram ran 35 times for 197 yards and 2 touchdowns.

FS L. Jackson had 9 tackles, 1 sack, 2 stuffs, 1 interception, 3 forced fumbles (1 ran back for a touchdown), and a pass deflection. He was definitely the player of the game.

Meanwhile on a more pleasant note, Michigan lost their first game in the last two seasons against a #16 Iowa. Hahaha... haha.. ha.

Bastards.

I'm not sour or anything...

Really.

I hate them.

We traveled to play Louisiana-Laf first and boy was that interesting.

(1-3) Arkansas State vs. (4-1) Geneva Bible

Starting the game off with a boom, as our FB Wayne Chen runs a 59 yarder into the endzone to give us an early 7-0 lead. This was the start of a dominant performance from the Cruisaders. During the second, we kept Arkansas State to a field goal as their only points, while QB James Givens found WR Russell Sears and FB Wayne Chen in the end zone on two different occasions, and then RB Neil Ingram ran a 41 yarder to finish the half 28-3.

Coming back from half-time, we made sure not to slow it down, with Givens throwing to Ingram for a touchdown and Buffington kicking 3 points in, while Arkansas State scored their only touchdown in the game. In the fourth, we showed no signs of being tired either, as Givens found WR Frank Anthony for his first touchdown of the game, second of the season. His first touchdown was last week with Louisiana-Laf, bringing him on a 2 game streak catching a single touchdown. In 2010 in fact, he played 8 games and didn't record a single touchdown. He's played in 5 of our games so far, and already recorded two. We switched out a field goal with Ark. State to wrap the game up.

Geneva wins, 48-13.

QB Silva sat out as J. Givens threw 17/29 for 366 yards and 4 touchdowns, an impressive game.

RB N. Ingram ran 31 times for 221 yards, and 1 touchdown bringing him to 7 rushing touchdowns this season.

As we prepared for next week's match-up against the (2-3) Louisiana-Monroe team, we watched Sports Center to find out #5 Ohio State lost last week to #9 Purdue, and now Purdue is up against #6 Michigan this week coming up. We are looking forward to tuning in and watching Michigan get their season handed to them with two loses, a worst record than us. We also have to play Purdue, but not until the last week. If they beat Michigan, we have a chance to redeem ourselves and beat Purdue. In our conference, North Texas is tied with the same record as us, though we don't get to play them until Week 12, we're only halfway there. Can't focus on them yet, though it'll be interesting to watch their season advance.

During our off week we snuck onto the Top 25 at #25, and stayed there throughout that week. If we can pull off an impressive win over our rivals, Troy this week, we might actually start our way moving up the ladder!

(6-1) Geneva Bible vs. (3-5) Troy

Troy came out prepared to fight, and fight they did! We started the first quarter out when RB Neil Ingram ran a 70 yard punt return back for a touchdown, and Buffington knocked in 3 on a field goal. Going up 10-0, it looked like it was going to be another one of those games. But Troy scored off the first few minutes of the 2nd quarter. QB Frank Silva connected with WR Vincente Bautista in the end zone to put us up to 16 but Buffington missed the free kick! Troy answered with a touchdown right back, cutting our lead to a measly 2.

At the half, Coach Demarco reminded us that we are not just another team. This is our season, this is our time to write the history how we see fit. We won't go down to our rivals in an upset, not like this. We came out and Buffington connected with a field goal to bring our lead up to 5. The end the 3rd, Silva connected with TE Gerald Austin in the end zone for another 7 on the board! 26-14 to start the 4th. Silva made Austin run this time, 37 yards for the end zone for another TD. Troy wasn't done however, connecting another touchdown to bring the score 33-21. However a nicely placed interception, and Buffington ended the game with a field goal.

Geneva wins, 36-21.

QB Silva threw 26/35 for 327 yards and 3 touchdowns, an impressive game.

RB N. Ingram ran 31 times for 139 yards and one of the only games to not have a rushing touchdown in.

We traveled to play Florida International, and what a beautiful Florida day it was for this game.

(7-1) Geneva Bible vs. (2-5) Florida International

Our defense showed up big during this game. In the first two quarters we limited them to a single field goal, while RB Neil Ingram ran the ball in for a single touchdown. We allowed our backup kicker Joe Davis in to kick the extra point. After halftime, K Davis was back in for a field goal. RB Ronald Wiggins got the ball and ran it into the end zone as well, but our K Joe Davis missed the extra point. Luckily we sacked FIU's quarterback in the endzone for a safety, and when we got the ball back we ran the time out to end the game.

Geneva wins a very uninspired game, 21-3.

RB N. Ingram ran 30 times for 143 yards and one touchdown.

Somehow that weekend when the polls came out, we actually moved up in the ranking system to #16. I'm not sure how as we played like a bottom feeder team, but we did it. We have 4 weeks left, 3 games in those 4 weeks, to move up as far along the polls as possible. Maybe if we can defeat a team like Purdue, we can find ourselves breaking into the Top 10 which is crazy because not even 3 months ago, we'd never have expected to hear that let alone be saying it ourselves!

In order to move up though we have to win, and that's what we planned on doing as North Texas traveled to PA to come to our home and play us on our field. North Texas is also 8-1 like us and have been known to be devestating to any team that tried to take them on looking for an easy win. We won't make that mistake, we plan on playing with everything we have.

(8-1) North Texas vs. (8-1) Geneva Bible

We decided to keep Joe Davis in as our kicker, and he knocked a 22 yarder in to put 3 points on early on in the first quarter. Our defenses showed up to play as well though, and kept the first quarter scoreless besides that. Into the second, to our dismay UNT put up 7. QB James Givens matched them with a touchdown to TE Gerald Austin. UNT wasn't done though, scoring another touchdown. QB Anthony Ware threw a pass to WR Craig Dunn though to bring us back into the lead, 17-14. To end the half though, UNT snuck out another touchdown but missed their extra point kick. 20-17 UNT at the half.

Coming back from the half, we both literally couldn't even make it past the 50 yard line except once each, in which we promptly both matched each other in field goals. The final of that game was 23-20, North Texas. How sad too with our awesome record, losing to the North Texas team and dropping to #20 in the poll. We just couldn't pull out a win against North Texas this year, though I'm sure we'll play again sometime in the near future...

couple big time match-ups head. On paper, I'm guessing these look like losses, but we know your team is capable of pulling an upset of the bigger team looks past them

We started off the season hard against Texas Tech, and absolutely dominated everybody in our division. I thought we had the team of all teams here, and with my updated play-calling and the updated game plays that I had my coaches running, I was pretty sure we'd fair against most teams. Michigan and Purdue are the only games I truly suspected to lose. The loss against North Texas was hard to watch, but was easy to predict after our extremely underwhelming games against Troy and Florida International.

If we can play to our ability, I expect a pretty nice win against Texas Christian, but that's if we can bounce back out of the past few weeks slump we've been in. Purdue is going to be extremely difficult, and my hope in that game will rest on how our team does against TC. If we play uninspired again and we can't snap out of this slump, I see little chance against Purdue.

Week 15: at #5 Purdue

C Frank Owen reported back from the doc, and it's said he has a fractured neck. His season is more than likely done. That means under center we went from a very well equipped blue, to a terrible red with M. Garcia.

The Award Finalist were also announced, with RB Neil Ingram getting another shot at the Heisman Trophy and Doak Walker (hoping to be a back to back winner in both) and the Mosi Tatupu again. TE Gerald Austin was nominated for the John Mackey award again, another winner looking for back-to-back wins on that award. And with how split our QB's were during the season, neither of them were really talked much about stats wise for awards.

We traveled to Texas Christian this week, but the entire week Coach was fuming. We didn't play inspired at all, and while we could have hung in there to beat North Texas, instead we lost by a mere field goal. We should not have lost that game and we knew it. Coach decided to give QB Anthony Ware his shot again, after only starting in 2 games this season.

(8-2) Geneva Bible vs. (5-4) Texas Christian

During our first drive down the field, QB Ware connected with WR Russell Sears for a touchdown! After a stop on defense, we came back out and again Ware met Sears in the end zone for another 7! Our defense got the stop again and forced TC to punt, which RB Neil Ingram ran back 70 yards for a touchdown! Finally before the first ended, TC got on the board with a field goal. During the second we made two back to back stops on D, and two back to back touchdowns ran in by RB Ingram. TCU found their way into the end zone for their first touchdown, while Ware found Ingram in the end zone for our 6th touchdown of the first half.

During halftime, it was noted that we definitely came to play but we weren't done. We had to send a message to all of Texas, and if TC wanted to challenge us, a challenge they will get. After the half we came out in the third and Ware connected with Sears for their third touchdown between the pair this game! A good stop from our defense gave RB Ingram a chance to catch and run the ball 73 yards into the end zone after another pass from QB Ware. In the final quarter, TC and ourselves swapped out a field goal to end the game.

Geneva wins, 59-13.

QB A. Ware threw 17/19, for 276 yards, 5 touchdowns and not a single interception!

RB N. Ingram ran 29 times for 119 yards, and 2 touchdowns.

WR R. Sears caught 7/7 passes, for 108 yards and 3 touchdowns.

We definitely came out strong this week, showing we were ready for what could possibly be our revenge game. It'll be sweet if we can beat Purdue who beat the only team we really can't beat right now, Michigan. This may be the last time we have a strong showing for a while with our seniors graduating, so we need to take advantage.

Week 14: Off

Week 15: at #3 Purdue

The talk of the town at Geneva was the game coming up against the #3 Purdue. It was our last chance of the season to make waves in the football game, and we had to take advantage of our last regular season game while it lasted. Our Seniors also took note, this was the last regular season game of college football they will ever play. While our school was quiet... their stadium was loud. When we arrived, they had a huge stadium and every seat was filled. Purdue fans were ready to see them crush these Geneva students where they stood, and wanted to show us where we stood.

#17 (9-2) Geneva Bible vs. #3 (8-2) Purdue

This was almost like our football Super Bowl if you will. This game meant so much to so many of our teammates and especially our coaches. We knew this game was going to be historic, win or lose.

The kickoff began with Purdue getting the ball first. They marched down the field, but got stopped short of our 40 yard line so they resulted to punting. QB A. Ware was great last game but Coach had to rely on someone we could trust who has the experience of playing behind them, so we went with QB James Givens as our starting QB. We had the ball at our own 33, and Givens took the field. His first throw however was intercepted and took back to our 38. They continued up the field with their good starting position, and was able to kick a field goal after being stopped just short of a first down. Purdue 3-0.

We got the ball but couldn't make much ground, resulting in our own punt. Purdue's drive however also had to result in a punt. We started to pick up momentum, gaining ground on Purdue, up to their 39 yard line, when Givens threw his second interception of the game. They pushed it up to our 13 yard line, and on first down our own G. Fond stepped in front of the ball and got an interception for us! We carried the ball into the second quarter.

During the second, we continued to push but didn't get inside field goal range and had to punt away again. Purdue got the ball, but had to go a quick 3 and out, with us stopping them. However we mimicked them, going 3 and out on our side as well and having to punt. During their drive, we make them fumble the ball but it's recovered by their QB and they result to punting it. We gained a little ground during the next few plays but not enough to avoid the inevitable punt game that seems to be so casual for each team. Purdue tries their best now, but again they have to result in a punt.

With 5 minutes left on the clock, we knew we had to do something on offense. We start pushing up the field from our own 23, to Purdue's 36, when QB Givens takes a hard hit and fumbles the ball. It's recovered by Purdue. Purdue has to punt at 1:16 left on the clock though and it's downed on our 4 yard line. We go 3 and out, and have to punt but Purdue only has 39 seconds left before the half, they return it to our own 32. They make it up to our 6 with timeouts, and kick it in to finish the half with another 3 added on. So at the half, it's Purdue - 6, Geneva - 0.

_________________________________________________________________

HALFTIME

At the half Coach commends our defense and says we're playing one hell of a game. We need to stay in this though, and fight for what's ours. We can win this game, we have the ability, we've already shown we have the defense, we just need to get into that end zone.

_________________________________________________________________

The third quarter began and we had some good field position starting out after an out of bounds kickoff put us at our own 40. Unfortunately we go a quick 3 and out and have to punt it away. Purdue gets the ball but has the same luck as we did, and punts it back. We start pushing it up to our own 44, when RB Neil Ingram fumbles the ball after a hard hit. It's recovered by Purdue. The Purdue fans are ecstatic and their cheers are growing louder, until they are silenced the very next play when Geneva's G. Fernandez nails their RB and makes him fumble the ball right back to us. FB W. Chen fumbles the ball when he gets it the next play after that, but we were able to get there and recover it. Everything looks good as Givens lines up under center to take on the 2nd down play, when he looks up to throw and gets his throw intercepted for the third time!

Purdue makes their way down the field and has to settle, lining up for a 48 yard field goal, and they miss! Geneva uses this momentum behind them and RB Neil Ingram breaks free, for 57 yards and a touchdown! It's the first touchdown all game, and we're finally up, 7-6! With 4 minutes left in the third, Purdue gets the ball back. They try and stop the momentum before it really erupts, but only winds up getting their ball intercepted by S. Patton! We bring the ball up a couple yards but initially have to punt anyway. Purdue is able to move it up to our 35 when the quarter ends.

The fourth quarter began shortly after, and we saw Purdue push it up the field some before fumbling the ball again after L. Jackson hit their RB! Geneva recovers! We were able to push it up to their own 39, but had to punt it because we don't really trust our kicker that much yet. Purdue starts tracking up the field again, up to their 30 when their QB goes down after a sack and fumbles the ball when G. Fernandez hit him! L. Jackson recovers it and takes off with nobody able to catch him, he runs it into the end zone! We're up 14-6!

Purdue slowly starts up the field, and after a couple lucky calls from the refs, they keep getting first downs. They make it all the way up to our 17, but then have to settle for a field goal which makes it 14-9, with our team still in the lead. After the next kickoff, RB Ingram takes it up 100 yards starting from the -2, and getting tackled just before the end zone! We're on the Purdue 2, and Givens connects with Ingram in the end zone for a touchdown the next play! 21-9 with 3:13 left on the clock! But the game isn't over yet... Purdue pushes it up the field but with 2:04 left to play, we force them to punt. Thinking they could stop us, but RB N. Ingram kept getting key 3rd and long runs down and capitalizing on each for a first down! Finally after Purdue wasted all 3 of their time outs, QB James Givens took a knee twice to officially end the game.

Geneva wins, 21-9.

QB J. Givens threw 9/22 for 88 yards, 1 touchdown, and 3 interceptions.

RB N. Ingram ran 28 times for 173 yards, and 1 touchdown.

What a game that was, and it propelled us to #13 in the rankings! We played hard, and kept our defense up, and we were able to take out a Top 5 team! What an incredible accomplishment from an incredible group of guys, and the Coaches are definitely proud.

Post-Season

RB Neil Ingram won the Heisman Trophy, Mosi Tatupu, and the Doak Walker award. Neil was a difference maker on offense and feared by all opposing defensive coordinators this season. He often took games over and leaves a legacy of offensive accomplishments. He ran for 1951 yards on 372 attempts, averaging 5.24 yards per carry. He added 14 touchdowns, with a season long run of 80 yards. He averaged 32.3 yards per kickoff return, while running for 13.4 yards on each punt return. He finished with 2 touchdowns as well.

Currently in the Media Poll we're ranked #13, but after the next week or so of tough games we may actually find ourselves moved up or down depending on how the games go. We also got an invite to the Liberty Bowl, to face our rivals East Carolina. We beat them Week 1, 44-3 but they are not as much of a push-over as that score makes them out to be. ECU went on to win 8 more games finishing out with a total record of 8-4, and finishing 1st in their conference, Conference USA.

In other news, North Texas took on Central Florida in the New Orleans Bowl and lost, 16-10. Fitting revenge, but now it's time to focus as we go to the Liberty Bowl and take on our long lost rivals, ECU. Before the game we found out that DT Steven Reynolds will be playing through a fractured hand and C Frank Owen will still be sitting out, like expected.

(10-2) Geneva Bible vs. (8-4) East Carolina

It was definitely a different game as we scored 5 total touchdowns in the first quarter alone. ECU scored two, while RB Ingram ran one for 64 yards in, Louis Jackson recovered a fumble and returned it in for a touchdown, and A. Ware found TE Gerald Austin in the end zone for a 40 yard touchdown. Going into the second was a completely different game with the only touchdown going to RB Ingram with a pass in the end zone from QB Ware.

During the second half, ECU scored first, with WR Frank Anthony catching a TD pass from QB Ware and RB Ingram running another touchdown in. Two field goals later, and that sealed the deal for this game.

Geneva wins, 48-21.

QB Ware threw 19/30 for 302 yards, and 3 touchdowns.

RB Ingram ran 39 times for 263 yards, and 2 touchdowns.

And that, was all she wrote. Meanwhile undefeated #1 USC took on the underdog, #5 Iowa in the Sugar Bowl for the BBCF Championship, in which USC defeated Iowa with a nail-biter finish, 40-33 in overtime.

Off-Season

Notes

From here on out, Geno Demarco (Head Coach) will be taking over this diary so you know from what perspective everything is coming from. Any OOC comments made will be quoted.

So our athletic director, Jerome Small, contacted me today and gave me an update on where we stand after going to the BBCF Athletic Directors meeting. We have a chance to move conferences, from the Sun Belt to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and of course after very little discussion, we agreed it would be the best move for us to make. Unfortunately Louisiana-Tech was forced to move down. He also told me there were some mainstream teams wanting me over to try out as their head coach, but I told them I wasn't interested. My loyalties remain here.

I had our Free Safety Louis Jackson stop by to talk to me about potentially declaring into the draft. His dilemma is that his parents want him to stay and finish his schooling but the rest of his family want him to go and take his chances. He thinks if he wanted to please both, he could get his schooling done over summer classes to finish up and get his degree, and then take his chances for pro ball anyway. I told him it's initially up to him, and that I'll support whatever he chooses to do. He's really a great kid, and I have no doubt he can make it big if he wanted to go into the draft. Of course I have my reserves, after all I'll miss the dang kid, I raised him practically, but either way he's going to grow into one amazing man. I remember when he came up here from Alabama, and everyone thought he had the coolest accent. Haha.

Southern Methodist was in touch with us last season to try and get some games going, and this season their Coach retired. They brought on a new coach, Walter Salazar. He was the AC at Texas. Seems like a great pick for them to bring their team and one I'm going to have to watch, perhaps their team would be worth challenging after all. Kansas, Northwestern, Illinois, Temple, Rutgers, Wake Forest, and Duke all fired their head coaches, and brought on new ones to take over. Here's a look at their last season, and next season we'll try and take a look at how these new coaches did.

Kansas - They went 1-10, their only win coming against a #10 Auburn, which was a great team.

NW went 3-8, ILL went 1-10 also, Temple went winless 0-11, RUT went 3-8, WAKE went 0-11 also, as did Duke. No wonder a lot of their coaches were just fired.

So with my new list, right now we are 0-2 against Michigan, 1-2 against USF, and 0-1 against North Texas. Texas Christian challenged us and we're 1-0 against them, and we're contemplating accepting Southern Methodist's challenge. They were 4-7 this season.

Recruiting

Part One

AD Small also told me we have a rise in the money available for our Athletic Budget, by 70k. It's now sitting at $1,935,000. That should definitely come in handy later on. I feel like this is going to be a big rebuilding season, so I might have to try and bring in some coaches that can help me further that agenda, as the ones I have now aren't helping too much. I called in a Coaches Meeting to see where everybody stood, and OC Camacho, DC Dobbins, and ST Daniel all had great things to say about our team, nobody wanted to leave. Unfortunately that wasn't going to work for the vision I had for this team, but because of the faithfulness of Dobbins and Daniel, I wasn't ready to let them go. So I told Camacho he'll be looking for a new job next season. When he left, I brought in the new OC Jason Ayers. Ayers told us he was super excited for this season, and that he is best at playing Run n Gun. He'll be getting 525,000 a year.

With that I allowed my Coaches to get together during the transfer period and see if there was anyone they'd like to bring on board. Their answer was FB David Thomas and SS William Dyer. So I sent a transfer package to them and met with each of them. Thomas agreed to come here, but Dyer was more set on Penn State, which was totally fine. Thomas is only at about half of his potential and is balanced with his running ability. Should come in handy as a FB option.

DT James Merrick was an option but he went to Vanderbilt. TE Chad Baggett was another option and this time he bit. We got Baggett to agree to transfer. With TE Collins in his Junior Year and Baggett only a freshman who redshirted last year, it appears Baggett will have a lot of upside in the coming years becoming just as good, if not better than Anthony Collins is. Baggett specializes in blocking. As our final week approached, we decided to reach out to DT Justin Denton, and Denton was more than happy to transfer. Denton was another redshirted freshman and looks to have a lot of upside to him when we bring him on next season.

So FB Thomas, TE Baggett, and DT Denton will be sitting out this season working out with the team and hanging / bonding with them until they get their opportunity to shine. I look forward to seeing what each of them do when they finally are eligible to play. Going into the recruiting weeks, we're looking forward to seeing what other spots we can fill. Looking at a quick glimpse of our roster this year, our FB, C, OLB, and K spots are slacking, with FB and K desperately. Going into Week 8 the coaches met and decided who we wanted to target. Week's 9 and 10 the offers were sent out, and Week 11 we found out one of our OT's we were after committed to another school.

Week 11 was even worse for us, our main RB, OT, SS, and CB that we were pursuing all committed elsewhere. Luckily none of our main recruits for the troubles spots we need committed elsewhere yet, but still. Not a single commit. But as a shred of light, FS Louis Jackson came by and told me he wasn't planning on leaving, but he'd like to finish out his college career with us. Meanwhile, we needed a break from recruiting so we shifted our eyes over to the NFL where the Super Bowl was soon to take place.

Recruiting

Part Two

What an interesting Super Bowl that was, with Baltimore going all the way. I heard rumors that Baltimore won’t be signing the Playoff MVP back for another season, Ray Rice. I wonder how that will turn out. Anyways back to recruiting.

This week we got a commitment from DT Timothy Miller. We also lost a lot of our current targets. I’ll bring more on Miller in a minute. The next week we had FS Robert Parsons commit. It was still a struggle, however that next week a flood gate opened up. We had FS Christopher Miller, RB James Brown, WR Michael Norris, and OG Dale Hogan all commit. Only two more weeks to go, and we’re still looking to fulfill as much of our weakness as possible.

RB Nathan Williams was the only one to commit that next week. Perhaps we can turn one of our RB’s into a Fullback. CB James Hall was the next to commit as we’re approaching our final week of recruiting. I appreciate CB’s, and RB’s, and DT’s and FS… but that’s not the people we’re necessarily focused on to commit right now. With the final week at bay, we finished up with CB Michael Cho, ILB Kevin Adams, ILB Harold Mills, CB Greg Barron, OT Dominique Stanley and RB Marvin Tyson all committing at the final buzzer. So out of the FB, P, K, OLB, C positions we needed we drafted approximately… 0 of them. Great.

Training Camp

Before I met with my team, I had a quick meeting with Jerome Small (AD). He told me that talking to our board, our expectations sky rocketed, especially now with our new conference under our belt. We’re expected to come out on top of the WAC, as well as a Top 25 finish. I was surprised our rival Troy wasn’t even mentioned once.

Looking at our roster, our breakdown is pretty simple:

15 Seniors

17 Juniors

19 Sophomores

33 Freshmen

With over half of our starters graduating from last year, we’re going to need some of the back-ups to take training real serious if we want to have a winning season. Going into the season we’re undecided in multiple positions who our starters will be. Our QB position is still up in the air with Givens going into the NFL draft this year, as well as our RB and FB positions. Anthony and Bautista earned their spots starting as our wide-outs this year, but the 3rd slot is still in the air. Collins will probably start as our TE and will sustain that spot for this year and next if he plays like he did last season. Our Offensive Line will need some work, with a C and OG position available.

On Defense, our DT’s and DE’s will be fighting to keep their positions as well as our opposite side OLB. The CB race is up in the air as well as our Safety decisions. The Kicker load is difficult as well, with Buffington still being available, Davis kicking as well as he did last season, and a new guy Johnson on board. With our Punter gone, the decision will be stuck between 3 guys like the Kicker.

While in contact with some other coaches around the area, I’ve successfully set up games with the South Carolina Gamecocks, South Florida Bulls, and the West Virginia Mountaineers as the specific Out Of Conference games. We decided to stay away from most of the games we wanted to play, like against Michigan this year, because it’s a rebuilding year for us and I’d rather not see our team demolished.

With the Training Camp coming to an end, I called a Coaches Meeting. I listened to the input from OC Ayers, DC Dobbins, and ST Daniel. With their wisdom involved as well, we created our depth chart.

NFL Draft

The coaches got together today and watched the NFL Draft, keeping up with each draft pick to see if our own players got drafted. To our surprise in the first round, pick 22 – New Orleans Saints picked up our Tackle, Michael Cook! Round two, not much happened for our side of the field, but in round 3 QB James Givens was picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs on pick 23. T Edward Tobin was the next to go by Tampa Bay, Round 4 Pick 30. DT Steven Reynolds was picked up Round 5, Pick 8 by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and then 20 picks later Houston picked up FB Wayne Chen. They’ve now picked up our FB and our OLB from last season. In round 6 and the final round for our own people, the Green Bay Packers picked up WR Russell Sears.

That left:

RB Neil Ingram

FB Eric Butcher

WR Craig Dunn

TE Gerald Austin

C Frank Owen

LB Keith Dixon

T Jose Curry

P Lawrence Robinson

All from not getting picked up. That was until the Free Agency (Post-Draft) happened and in round 5 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked up RB Neil Ingram. We’ll see if the others are picked up or eventually needed by any teams meanwhile we’ll also check in on our previous league makers.

QB Paul Garza decided to take his name out of Free Agency and try his luck elsewhere. He’s since picked up a teaching job at a local middle school. OLB James Anderson played in 5 games and started in 1 in 2010, and had the same results this past season. He’s curious if he’ll ever get played more, but we’ll have to see as time goes by. This is his 3rd year in the league and he still has 2 years left on his contract. Now let’s look at those drafted.

Going down the list:

QB James Givens was signed to Kansas City for a 4 year, $504,045 contract.

RB Neil Ingram was signed to Tampa Bay with a 1 year, 600k trial run.

FB Wayne Chen was signed to Houston for a 1 year, 300k trial run.

T Michael Cook was signed to New Orleans with a 4 year, $3,105,478 contract.

T Edward Tobin was signed to Tampa Bay with a 1 year, 300k trial run.

WR Russell Sears was signed to Green Bay for a 1 year, 300k trial run.

DT Steven Reynolds was signed to Pittsburgh with a 1 year, 300k trial run.

With Ingram, Chen, Tobin, Sears, and Reynolds all on trial runs, it’ll be interesting to see where their future lays in a year from now.

Chapter One:

The Season Begins…

Before we get to the Season stuff, we might as well go ahead and introduce the first ever

Hall Of Fame!

Since this is our first introduction to it, we’re going to be inducting 7 people into the Geneva Hall Of Fame.

1. (TE) Gerald Austin

Gerald played for Geneva for all four years from 2008-2011, and received the induction for his receiving. He racked up a total of 144 catches, for 1983 yards, averaging 13.80 yards per carry, and 38.10 yards per game. He only dropped the ball a total of two times in his entire career and scored 17 touchdowns, a TE record here at Geneva.

2. (WR) Craig Dunn

Craig also played all four years, from 08-11 and he was another who was induction for receiving. He had 203 catches, 3149 yards, 15.50 YPC, 65.60 YPG, 24 TD’s, and 19 drops.

3. (CB) Bradford Jacobs

Bradford was a complete monster on defense, and after playing only two short years here 09-10, he was inducted for exactly that, defense. He earned 148 tackles, 0 sacks, 6 stuffs, an amazing 23 interceptions, 49 pass deflections, and 0 deflected passes, and 0 hurries.

4. (RB) Neil Ingram

This shouldn’t shock anyone, as Neil played from 08-11 and is the only person so far to be inducted for Rushing. Neil ran 1638 rushes, for 8801 yards, 5.37 YPC, 169.20 YPG, 61 TD’s, and 24 fumbles (13 lost).

5. (ILB) Robert Miller

Actually picked up during the transfer bidding, Miller played 08-10 and is the 2nd player inducted for defense. Robert had 238 tackles, 10 sacks, 37 stuffs, 3 interceptions, 15 pass deflections, 2 deflected passes, and 8 hurries.

6. © Frank Owen

The only man inducted for Blocking, Frank played from 08-11. He had 53 run blocks, 52 pancakes, 7 sacks allowed, and 6 holding calls.

7. (WR) Russell Sears

Sears played 08-11 as well, and was the latest to be inducted for receiving. He had 235 catches, 3161 yards, 13.50 YPC, 60.80 YPG, 19 TD’s, and 14 drops.

Game Time

Going into this season is going to be interesting. We’re in a conference we’ve never played in before, against teams we’ve never faced, and as far as publicity goes, we’re not even talked about on the Media Polls. We definitely have a lot coming in that we’re going to have to overcome here to start getting some recognition but before we could ever think about the long term, we have to focus on the game ahead of us. South Carolina, here we come.

(0-0) Geneva Bible vs. (0-0) South Carolina

We decided to start the game putting the load on our old Running Back, Marcus Allen. He played in 1 game in 2010, and not a single game since then. He definitely didn’t let us down, putting two touchdowns on the board in the first quarter. In the second quarter, QB Anthony Ware held onto the ball for too long in the end zone and got sacked for a safety. South Carolina scored a field goal on their next drive after getting the ball back. Kicker Joe Davis put up a field goal for us, which brought us to a 17-5 lead going into halftime.

We are doing good so far, we just have to keep the lead and get away with a win. In the third quarter, our defense is out to play and stops them on pretty much all fronts making them punt twice, while Davis got in field goal range and put up 3 for us. As we moved on to the fourth quarter, Davis put another 3 on the board which is something he’s getting quite good at, and South Carolina scores a touchdown in the last few seconds to end the game.

Geneva Bible wins, 23-12.

It was a little disappointing, but it was also somewhat to be expected. Our QB, Anthony Ware threw 25/40 for 297 yards. He didn’t bring in a single touchdown.

Meanwhile our RB Marcus Allen is fitting into Ingram’s shoes quite nicely, running the ball 33 times, for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Our Free Safety however was definitely our player of the game, Louis Jackson. He had 8 tackles, 3 stuffs, 1 interception and 2 pass deflections.

Coach Demarco answered the question about the possibility of going undefeated this year.

“We’re not looking at winning against each team this year, and being undefeated until our final game. In fact, we’re not focused on our final game. As far as our players are concerned, they have no idea who their opponent is during that week. They don’t even know who they’re facing in 2 weeks. All they know is Fresno State. That’s our focus, being undefeated against Fresno State in 2012.”

Week 4:

(1-2) Fresno State vs. (2-0) Geneva Bible

Week 5:

(3-1) San Jose State vs. (3-0) Geneva Bible

CB Lawrence Gray was the only one still reported hurting, with his cracked sternum. San Jose State is undefeated within the conference, as well as Boise State, Utah State, Hawaii, and us. SJSU was going to be hard to beat, and we were projected to be even. In the first quarter, the only scoring happened when SJSU kicked a field goal. SJSU kicked another field goal to open up the 2nd quarter, taking their lead to 6. QB Ware found freshman WR Michael Norris for 4 yards for a touchdown and Davis made the PAT to finally take the lead. SJSU threw a touchdown in response to our own, and then SJSU returned a fumble recovery for 98 yards for another touchdown, going into the half 20-7 San Jose State. The 3rd quarter started, and QB Ware found WR Frank Anthony for 12 yards and a touchdown. Davis PAT is good. RB Wiggins made himself known with a 5 yard touchdown run shortly after, putting us up 21-20 ending the 3rd quarter. During the 4th quarter, Davis connected with a field goal. SJSU responded with a field goal of their own, and to end the game, Davis connected with one more field goal. 27-23 was the final score, Geneva wins.

Week 6:

(3-1) Boise State vs. (4-0) Geneva Bible

Nobody was injured this week so we had the full team going in, ready to play against Boise State who was coming to our home. With SJSU knocked out of the undefeated list, Geneva was looking to take on the next undefeated team, Boise State. Hawaii, and Boise State still remained undefeated meanwhile SJSU beat the previous undefeated Utah State right before our game. To start this game, Boise State kicked a field goal. QB Ware found WR Bautista for an 8 YD TD pass. Davis kick was good. QB Ware then found WR Anthony for a 50 YD TD pass and Davis kick again was good to start the 2nd. Boise State scored off of a 90 yard kickoff return, while QB Ware found RB Wiggins in the end zone for a TD. Davis Kick is good. Davis knocks in a field goal, and QB Ware finds TE Collins for 23 yards and a touchdown. Davis kick again is good. Boise kicks a field goal going into the half. After a touchdown from Boise State, RB Wiggins ran 1 yard for a touchdown, and then FS Louis Jackson ran back 43 yards a fumble return for a touchdown, Davis kick being good both times. To begin the 4th quarter, RB Wiggins ran in another touchdown and Davis kick was good. Boise scored two touchdowns before the game ended but it wasn’t enough. Geneva wins, 52-34. QB Ware threw 20 for 30 times, 345 yards, and 4 touchdowns.

Week 7:

(1-0) Geneva Bible vs. (1-3) Utah State

Again, nobody was injured, and only Hawaii was left with the undefeated streak in our conference. Geneva traveled to Utah State, looking to make their mark on their second away game of the season… and boy did they. QB Ware found WR Michael Norris for an 8 yd touchdown pass, and then WR Anthony for a 45 yard touchdown pass. Then a 87 yard punt return from SS Mojica. Davis knocked all those PATs in, and then a field goal to end the 1st quarter. In the 2nd, QB Ware found RB Wiggins and WR Anthony for two back to back touchdown possession runs, while Davis kicked both those PATs and a field goal in to end the half. In the 3rd quarter, QB Ware ran the ball in for 2 yards and a touchdown, his first rushing TD of his career, with Davis knocking the PAT in. During the 4th, Davis kicked a field goal to end the game in a powerful shut out. Our defense got 3 interceptions and 4 forced fumbles, winning the game 51-0, Geneva Wins.

Regular Season, 2012

Second Half of the Regular Season

Week 8:

(6-0) Geneva Bible vs. (2-4) South Florida

Center Gaylord Cable is out yet again, this time with a slipped disk in his lower back. Punter Tyson Meyer is out with a fractured toe. During the first quarter in South Florida, Davis knocked in a field goal and we took the lead, 3-0. QB Ware connected with WR Bautista for 15 yards, and then SS Mojica returned a punt for 87 yards, both for touchdowns. Davis’ kicks were good. In the 3rd quarter it was all us as well, Davis knocking in a 31 yarder, and then nailing both PATs, when QB Ware found WR Anthony, and freshman WR Norris for 65 and 31 yards, for touchdowns. In the 4th, USF managed a touchdown but Davis ended the game with a field goal. 37-7, Geneva Wins.

QB Anthony Ware threw 17/34 for 308 yards, 3 TD’s and 2 interceptions.

RB Ronald Wiggins ran 33 times, for 176 yards, and 0 touchdowns.

FS Louis Jackson had 7 tackles, 1 sack, 2 interceptions and 1 pass deflection.

Week 9:

(7-0) Geneva Bible vs. (1-6) Idaho

C Cable is still out with his slipped disc, but pretty much everyone else is in good shape. Right now, we are ranked with the #1 Defense in the league, everyone is talking about us on pretty much every sports channel. With a bunch of reporters and interviewers wanting to come down and talk to us, Coach Demarco has done a good job of telling them to stay away. Idaho scored on their first drive, shocking everyone. However QB Ware found WR Anthony in the end zone and Davis field goal was good. 2nd quarter we caught up and showed our force, Ware ran the ball in for one touchdown, found WR’s Bautista and Anthony each for a touchdown. All 3 Davis’ kicks were good. In the 3rd quarter, Idaho kicked a field goal but QB Ware found WR Bautista again for a touchdown. Davis kick was good, as well as his field goal in the 4th to end the game. 38-10, Geneva Wins.

QB Ware – 20/29 for 303 yards, 5 TD’s, 2 INT, Rush for 55 Yards.

Week 10:

During our Bye Week, Coach Demarco called a press conference to address all the media.

“We (Geneva) obviously appreciate all of the support, and all of the recognition. We were recently informed that we have not lost a game, and are currently entertaining a winning streak. This was news to our guys, and news to me. We’re not focused on the past, and we’re not focused on the number of our wins. We are focused on winning the next game. We are aware we have the #1 defense in the league currently, that’s because we play our butts off. We have a good team, great team captains leading their teams… there’s nothing and nobody that can stop us, and we absolutely believe that. We’re not here to please you, we’re here to make our mark against every team that faces us. To us, the Top 25 isn’t next, even though we’re rated #22 in the polls right now. To us, the bowl game isn’t next, though we’re a pretty solid lock for it. To us, the #1 ranking isn’t next, though I’m certain our boys could give Colorado a run for their money. No… to us, New Mexico State is next. Thank you.”

Week 11:

#16 (8-0) Geneva Bible vs. (0-8) New Mexico State

C Cable is still out recovering, WR Michael Norris is sitting out due to a nerve injury with his Ankle. WR Daniel Perkins was in for Norris this game, and was found by QB Ware for 7, Davis kick being good in the 1st quarter. SS Mojica ran back a 60 yard punt return for a touchdown, Davis kick good. In the 2nd, Davis kicked a field goal, and made a PAT when QB Ware found RB Marcus Allen for a touchdown. In the 3rd, QB Ware found WR Anthony for 53 yards and a touchdown, Davis kick is good. NMSU kicked a field goal. In the 4th, Davis kicked a field goal. He also made two PAT’s when QB Ware found TE Collins for a 17 yard pass and a touchdown, and then SS Mojica ran back another punt return 86 yards for a touchdown to end the game. 48-3, Geneva Wins. Our Punt Return team is simply amazing. SS Ernest Mojica has ran back a total of 4 punt returns, 2 this game, 3 in the past 3 games.

Week 12:

#9 (9-0) Geneva Bible vs. (6-3) Hawaii

Arguably one of the greatest teams we’d have to play this year, and C Cable is still out with that slipped disc… but we were ready. In the 1st, QB Ware ran in 3 yards for a touchdown, Davis kick good. Hawaii kicked a field goal. In the 2nd, RB Marcus Allen ran it in for 7 yards and a touchdown, kick is good. Hawaii kicked another field goal. We responded, by QB Ware connecting with RB Allen, and WR Anthony back to back drives equaling in touchdowns. Davis kick was good each time. At the half it was 28-6, and the hometown crowd wondered if their Hawaii would get back into this game. In the 3rd, it looked worse, as QB Ware threw to WR Anthony for 43 yards, Freshman WR Daniel Perkins for 4 yards, and TE Anthony Collins for 5 yards, each resulting in touchdowns and the extra points were good. In the 4th, we ended the game with Davis kicking a field goal, and QB Silva going in to throw a touchdown to WR Anthony.

QB Anthony Ware was 23/28, 427 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 28 rushing yards.

Week 13:

(2-7) Nevada vs. #6 (10-0) Geneva Bible

C Cable is starting rehab for his slipped disc finally, but will be out for a while still. CB Gray is out for at least a month with a torn groin. With this being close to our last scheduled game, we wanted to go out there and hit Nevada hard, especially with them coming to our house. During the 1st quarter, WR Bautista caught a 32 yard pass from QB Ware for a touchdown, kick is good. 80 yard punt return from SS Mojica, 5th of the year, for a touchdown, kick is good. In the 2nd, QB Ware found WR Bautista twice for a touchdown, ran the ball in 13 yards for a touchdown, and then SS Turner ran back an interception 27 yards for a touchdown. All the kicks were good. In the 3rd quarter, Nevada kicked a field goal, QB Ware found WR Bautista for 18 yards and a touchdown, and then QB Ware ran 4 yards for a touchdown, Davis’ kick were good both times. In the 4th quarter, Davis kicked two field goals, and a PAT when RB Allen ran it in for 3 yards and a touchdown. Final score: 69-3, Geneva Wins.

Week 15:

(4-6) Troy vs. #6 (11-0) Geneva Bible

C Cable is getting close to being able to play, but isn’t ready yet while CB Gray is still doing rehab for his groin. Our rivals came to our home to play us in the Conference Championship. During the 1st quarter, Davis knocked in a field goal. He also made two PATs on two different possessions, as RB Wiggins ran the ball in twice for touchdowns. In the 2nd quarter, it was QB Ware who ran into the end zone for a touchdown, kick was good, while Davis knocked in another field goal. In the 3rd quarter, QB Ware found WR Bautista in the endzone for 6, and Davis knocked the PAT in. Davis then kicked another field goal. Finally in the 4th, Troy returned an interception, and a punt for touchdowns, while Davis knocked in one final field goal to end the game. 40-13, Geneva Wins.
