WCW 1994: New Directions

Using Clash of The Titans version 1.07

In 1994, WCW's Eric Bischoff declared open war against Vince McMahon's dominant WWF. Bischoff's first major step in this direction came in June 1994 when the biggest wrestling star in the world, Hulk Hogan, signed a multi-year contract with WCW. By July, WCW was heading towards the match sought for by fans for years, which WWF teased but failed to deliver when they had the chance: Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair. A true clash of the titans...

Although having brought WCW this far, being the driving force behind the signing of Hogan, Bischoff has lately been rumored to have releaved of many of his duties within WCW. No words as to why this has transpired, but sources close to Ted Turner insists that Bischoff has not been degraded and that it is merely a "strategic move" - and that Bischoff's skills will be needed for other projects. There is as of yet no information on who Bischoff's replacement is, but it is rumored to be a newcomer to the world of wrestling. What - if anything - he'll be doing differently than Bischoff will be seen in the months to come...

Ongoing storylines in July 1994:

- Ric Flair and Sting had a title unification match for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship (Flair) and the WCW International World Heavyweight Championship (Sting) to determinate the Undisputed WCW World Heavyweight Championship at Clash of The Champions XXVII on June 23. Flair won after using the ropes as leverage, with Sherri Martel turning heel with Flair and beating down Sting after the match - untill newly-signed Hulk Hogan came out to make the save. At the following Saturday Night TV taping, Hogan and Flair signed a contract for a title match at Bash at The Beach the following month...

-"Stunning" Steve Austin, the current champion, is feuding with Ricky Steamboat over the WCW United States Championship.

- Lord Steven Regal won the WCW World Television Championship from Larry Zbyszko at CoTC and is looking for new challengers. Who could it be? His old rival, Johnny B. Badd perhaps...?

- Kevin and Dave Sullivan are feuding with The Nasty Boys, whom eventually injured Dave - after which Cactus Jack replaced Dave, helping Kevin win the WCW World Tag Team Championship from The Nasties.

- Vader and The Guardian Angel began a rivalry when the latter was still known as The Boss; Vader caused him to lose the name as well as the right to wear a nightstick and handcuffs when commissioner Nick Bockwinkel punished him for mis-using his authority.

-"The Natural" Dustin Rhodes has been feuding with Bunkhouse Buck and later Terry Funk, both from Col. Robert Parker's Stud Stable for some months now. He is currently looking for a tag team partner to face the two at Bash at The Beach...

Hive running a WCW 94? I feel like I have some competition now with both you and Jag running it along with me :p

Greatest of luck with it man, can't wait to see what you have cooked up for this time period!

Thanks, this game has been a very long time in the making; even though I actually made the mod in order to play WCW in 1994, this is the first time I've gotten around to do it... can you believe that? :D

It's such a great time period to jump into. And while there will probably be similarities to your great diairy, I'll try to avoid ripping you off *too* much. :p I will likely be inspired from time to time, though. :)

You might wanna watch Levesque. I heard he had a habit of marrying the bosses daughter & burying people. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

WCW Saturday Night

WCW+Saturday+Night.jpg

Announcers: Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan and Larry Zbyszko

Sting+5.jpgSteve+Austin+94.jpg

Sting walks to the ring, mic in hand, looking very determined. He cuts a promo on Ric Flair, about Flair cheating to win the unified title at Clash of The Champions, vowing to set things right and become champion once again - even if it means going through Hogan, after Bash at The Beach, which results in a thunderous reaction from the crowd. He's interrupted before going further though, by US champion Steve Austin. Austin tells Sting, with him being such a loser, to shut up and make room and airtime for a real champion - showcasing his belt while the crowd boos. The two argue for a bit untill Austin, in a fit of arrogance, agrees to face Sting later on tonight - in a title match!

Ricky Steamboat vs. Sgt. Craig Pittman

Ricky+Steamboat+93.jpg vs. Craig+Pittman.jpg

In a short match, Steamboat comes out on top against the aggressive Pittman after surprising him with a roll-up.

Winner: Ricky Steamboat

Match length: 4:49

Steven+Regal+4.jpg

Lord Steven Regal, the new TV champion, cuts a promo backstage about his own greatness in all reality being too good for all those fat and lazy Americans in the audience to behold, but that he's a good samaritan who's here to educate the masses in proper wrestling.

Harlem Heat vs. Stars 'n' Stripes

Booker+T.jpgStevie+Ray.jpg vs. Marcus+Bagwell+1.jpgThe+Patriot.jpg

An even match came to an end when, after earlier in the match seeing Stevie Ray exposing a turnbuckle in a fauked effort to throw Bagwell head first into it, Booker T accidentally jumped into the exposed turnbuckle after a failed offense in The Patriot - who in turn took advantage of the situation and rolled Booker up for the win.

Winners: Stars 'n' Stripes

Match length: 12:24

Rating: C-

Vader.jpgHarley+Race.jpgGene+Okerlund.jpg

'Mean Gene' Okerlund is interviewing Vader and his manager, Harley Race. Race hypes his client as the most dominating force in wrestling today and promises that Vader will crush anyone standing in his way, starting with that "misguided bafoon", The Guardian Angel. Why? Because it's Vader Time, that's why!!!

Rating: C+

Jim Duggan vs. Brian Armstrong

Jim+Duggan.jpg vs. Brian+James.jpg

A Three-point stance clothesline secures the victory for Duggan.

Winner: Jim Duggan

WCW World Tag Team Championship match:

The Nasty Boys vs. Cactus Jack & Kevin Sullivan © (w/Dave Sullivan)

Brian+Knobbs.jpgJerry+Sags.jpg vs. Mick+Foley.jpgKevin+Sullivan.jpg

In a re-match attempt to regain their lost titles, Knobbs and Sags yet again comes up short as Cactus pins Sags after a Double Arm DDT. The Nasties does not look pleased, and leaves the ring quickly.

Winners, and still champions: Cactus Jack & Kevin Sullivan

Match length: 7:27

Rating: C+

Hulk+Hogan.jpgJimmy+Hart.jpgGene+Okerlund.jpg

'Mean Gene' interviews Hogan and Jimmy Hart about Hogan's upcoming WCW World Heavyweight Championship bout with champion Ric Flair at Bash at The Beach. Hogan vows to feed off the energy of all the little Hulkamaniacs and prove once and for all that he, not Flair, is the best there is when he becomes World Champion!

Dustin Rhodes vs. Bunkhouse Buck (w/Col. Robert Parker & Meng)

Dustin+Rhodes.jpg vs. Bunkhouse+Buck.jpg

This hateful feud between these two continues with a hard-hitting bouth. As Dustin looks to have the upper hand when Terry Funk suddenly rushes into the ring and attacks him. Parker does his best to distract the referee, but without luck as the ref calls for the bell and a DQ.

Winner: Dustin Rhodes

Match length: 6:13

Rating: D+

Dustin+Rhodes.jpgBunkhouse+Buck.jpgTerry+Funk.jpgMeng.jpg

After the match, Dustin is on the receiving end of a good old-fashioned beatdown by The Stud Stable.

WCW United States Championship match:

Sting vs. Steve Austin ©

Sting+5.jpg vs. Steve+Austin+94.jpg

A pretty good match here between two obviously skilled men. Austin shows that he's actually got skills to back up his big mouth, but as the match drags on, Sting proves to be too much for him to handle - a problem Austin aptly solves by hitting Sting with his title belt, ending the match in a DQ as he keeps his belt.

Winner: Sting

Match length: 14:19

Rating: B-

Hulk+Hogan.jpg

A hype music video to promote Hogan airs, just in case people weren't aware of his WCW presence by now.

Non-title match:

Ric Flair © (w/Sensuous Sherri) vs. Johnny B. Badd

Ric+Flair.jpg vs. Marc+Mero.jpg

In spite of doing well against the world champion, poor Badd suffers from the announcers talking more about Hogan vs. Flair for Bash at The Beach than about the ongoing match. Eventually, Sherri manages to distract Badd and enable Flair to lock on the Figure Four, which ends the match that sadly wasn't one of neither man's best outings.

Winner: Ric Flair

Match length: 11:20

Rating: C+

Ric+Flair.jpg

After the match, Flair cuts a promo on Hogan: "Mirror, mirror on the wall... WOOOO... who is the fairest of them all? Hahahaha! Life couldn't be any better than it is for the Nature Boy. Look at this! WOOOO! This is the difference between me and Hulk Hogan. I got life right where I want it. Anything I want, just like that. But I have problem. And what is that problem, you might ask? I'll tell you what my problem is! GUYS LIKE HULK HOGAN! He comes straight into Atlanta, into World Championship Wrestling, wanting all the money, wanting all the glory, wanting to fly first class, wanting to walk around with someone like her [points at Sensuous Sherri]... well he doesn't deserve it! He hasn't worked for it! He hasn't bled, sweat and paid the price to be here. THAT's what’s driving me crazy! I'm walking around trying to figure out why GUYS LIKE HOGAN are being cheered when trying to take MY spot. WHY? Well Hulk Hogan, if you wanna stay you better prove it to yourself, to the WCW roster and most of all... to The Nature Boy! WHOOOOO! Now, because I'm looking so fine, I want all the women heading into Florida to remember; you don't have to go to Florida, you be here in WCW July 17, and you can ride the Space Mountain for nothing! WHOOOOO!"
