I know it's a bit late for this, and I thought of bringing it up before, but the sudden venue shifts are bothersome for me. It might be that I'm more of a traditionalist, but New Japan has traditions nowadays on where they run shows. January 4th show at Tokyo Dome, New Japan Cup at Korakuen, Invasion Attack/King of Pro-Wrestling at Sumo Hall, Destruction at Kobe, etc. Minor gripe, because you're otherwise doing a stellar job.

Yeah, that's more to do with the fact that I am able to draw such unrealistic numbers for PPV's and TV tapings. I mean, if I can draw 25,000 for a PPV, I probably shouldn't be holding it at Kobe Hall because then I'm robbing myself of like 15,000+ tickets. I'm sure they'd probably do the same if they were in my position.

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship -

'Best In The World' CM Punk © vs. 'Stardust Genius' Tetsuya Naito

I don't think Punk will lose here, just call it a hunch though

Kings Of Pro-Wrestling #1 Contendership -

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. 'King Of Strong Style' Shinsuke Nakamura

This one is tough... I think Hiroshi has more of a upside here though

Tokyo Dome Main Event Contract -

'The Rainmaker' Kazuchika Okada © vs. 'The Underboss' Bad Luck Fale

Fale isn't beating the Rainmaker. No way.

IWGP World Tag Team Championship -

Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori Shibata © vs CHAOS (Masato Tanaka & Tomohiro Ishii)

I don't see CHAOS winning. Champs retain

IWGP Intercontinental Championship -

'Real Rock And Rolla' Prince Devitt © vs Tomoaki Homna

This one is tough, I'd say the title changes hands to free Devitt for a move up the card but that may happen later.

NWA World Tag Team Championship -

TenKoji © vs. The Decade (Roderick Strong & BJ Whitmer)

Gaijin lose :p

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship -

Alex Shelley © vs La Sombra

Hrm... tough again. Shelley wins because he's really good maybe? :p

IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship -

reDRagon © vs. The Young Bucks

Again, I don't see the yanks beating the locals here

Mistico & El Desperado vs. KUSHIDA & Hayato Jr. Fujita

Total guess on my part

NJPW Destruction

Saturday, Week 4, September 2014

Live on PPV at the Kawasaki Stadium!

Attendance: 30,000 - Sell Out!

Commentary Team: Shinpei Nogami & Milano Collection A.T.

Togi Makabe, Daisuke Sasaki, Manabu Soya & Kota Ibushi defeated Daichi Hashimoto, Ryusuke Taguchi & Team Dream Futuresin tonight's dark match. Grade: 72 (B-)

http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/Roster/Mistico_zps4535b2d8.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/Roster/ElDesperado_zpseffc8a10.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/VS2_zpsfb32d472.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/Roster/KUSHIDA_zps90fc5a1f.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/Roster/HayatoJrFujita_zps308edbe8.jpg

Mistico & El Desperado vs. 'Time Splitter' KUSHIDA & Hayato Jr. Fujita

15 Minute Time Limit ~ Referee: Tiger Hattori

KUSHIDA is announced as the 'Time Splitter' by Kimihiko Ozani, so he now has a nickname. We kick off the PPV with a real sleeper hit though, this was far better than anybody expected but that's mostly thanks to KUSHIDA and Fujita just being so damn good. Mistico and El Desperado work hard and they both have their moments, but they're just simply overwhelmed by their opponents in the end. KUSHIDA locks Mistico in the Hoverboard Lock and as El Desperado tries to break it up, Fujita charges in and takes the masked man down before locking him in a Kimura Lock of his own! Mistico fights the pain but it's not long before he finds himself with no choice but to submit the match.

Winners: KUSHIDA & Hayato Jr. Fujita (12:58)

Grade: 81 (B)

IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship

reDRagon © vs. The Young Bucks

30 Minute Time Limit ~ Referee: Tiger Hattori

Oddly enough, the Junior tag opener eclipses the Junior tag title match. The fans still aren't too familiar with reDRagon though and despite some good action, they're still a little relaxed throughout this one. The Champions look to be on the brink of retaining their belts when they have Nick Jackson set up for Chasing The Dragon but Matt Jackson hops in and Superkicks Bobby Fish into next week. O'Reilly fights on alone and actually manages to avoid the More Bang For Your Buck by pushing Matt into his partner perched on the top turnbuckle. But The Young Bucks once again seize the iniative thanks to another Superkick and Bobby Fish finds himself on Matt Jackson's shoulders as the More Bang For Your Buck connects and The Young Bucks regain their Junior Tag Team Championships!

Winners: The Young Bucks (15:14)

Grade: 69 (C+)

The Young Bucks wait around to salute Alex Shelley as he makes his way down the ramp for his match.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship

Alex Shelley © vs La Sombra

30 Minute Time Limit ~ Referee: Tiger Hattori

A good match here, although La Sombra makes the Junior Champ look like a Junior Chump. Shelley is resourceful though and begins to turn the match into a wrestling clinic on the mat, which makes this contest all the more interesting as La Sombra constantly tries to rally back only to be slowed straight back down again. Finally the luchador is able to gain some serious momentum and begins to sense victory as he springboards into the ring and looks for a Dragonrana but Shelley blocks it and slams La Sombra down on the back of his head with a nasty Powerbomb! He quickly rolls the luchador over and rolls him up with a La Magistral and picks up the surprise pinfall win!

Winner: Alex Shelley (14:08)

Grade: 73 (B-)

There's something of a stunned silence as La Sombra is assisted to the back by Tiger Hattori, who has finished his shift for the night and Marty Asami makes his way down to officiate our next match.

NWA World Tag Team Championship

TenKoji © vs. The Decade (Roderick Strong & BJ Whitmer)

30 Minute Time Limit ~ Referee: Marty Asami

After two back-to-back Bullet Club victories, the order is restored here. We all knew that there was no way TenKoji were losing here, although our live audience missed the memo because they were on the edge of their seats for this one. The Decade fight hard and dominate early on but they're undone by the experience of their opponents who dig in and re-assert control with a 3D to BJ Whitmer. At last, Kojima gets a measure of revenge on Roderick Strong thanks to a Cozy Lariat and picks up the 1 - 2 - 3 for his team.

Winners: TenKoji (14:47)

Grade: 78 (B)

As the ring is cleared, Togi Makabe heads down the ramp unannounced and joins our commentary team at ringside. The best seat in the house as they say.

IWGP Intercontinental Championship

'Real Rock And Rolla' Prince Devitt © vs Tomoaki Honma

30 Minute Time Limit ~ Referee: Marty Asami

Devitt comes down to the ring on his own here, maybe because Fale is facing Okada later on tonight. Who knows? We haven't asked Fale, somebody get a camera back there and ask him. Anyway, there's a renewed focus in Devitt here - no playing around, no posing, no taunting, just wrestling and he does it damn well. Honma does what he does better than anybody else in the world and works the match as the underdog reduced to short bursts of offence but the crowd eat up every moment that he's on the attack. Devitt shows his class though and survives numerous onslaughts, usually by dodging a Kokeshi attempt. After Honma misses one from the top rope, Devitt connects with the Tornado Enzuigiri and puts this one away with the Bloody Sunday to notch up his second successful defence of the Championship he won in June.

Winner: Prince Devitt (16:24)

Grade: 82 (B)

As Devitt celebrates and our ringside attendants see to Honma, Milano Collection A.T. asks if Makabe is leaving. The 'Unchained King Kong' thinks about it, but decides he's going to stick around for this match too.

IWGP World Tag Team Championship

Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori Shibata © vs CHAOS (Masato Tanaka & Tomohiro Ishii)

30 Minute Time Limit ~ Referee: Marty Asami

This wasn't a wrestling match, this was a fight. And boy did it turn out to be one superb fight. There were lots of little narratives going on here, the personal rivalries between the four have been present for a while and they were all looking for revenge in one way or another. Tanaka has beaten Shibata, Shibata has beaten Ishii and Goto has beaten Tanaka. But it was Ishii and Goto that took center stage in an effort to find out who was the better of the two. Eventually the match boiled over and somehow became even more physical than it was already was as CHAOS stood in the center of the ring and took turns beating the life out of Goto with hard forearm strikes. Shibata interjected and saved his partner by tossing Tanaka to the outside before absolutely killing him from the apron with a Penalty Kick!

Ishii was left alone and fought on as best as he could, almost desperate to avoid defeat whilst Tanaka recuperated on the outside. But Ishii ran out of steam and could do little to counter Goto's Shouten Kai as the Champions picked up the one, two and the three putting a close to this superb match.

Winners: Goto & Shibata (22:27)

Grade: 88 (B+)

Makabe really enjoyed that match but now he's off for the night. Tetsuya Naito takes his place and joins us for the intermission as the fans depart for refreshments and probably a much-needed toilet break for some. Milano conducts a short interview with tonight's IWGP Title contender, asking him about what he's seen so far tonight but most importantly, his preparation for tonight's match.

Naito: "I've worked hard. [Laughs] But I've beat him already, so I can do it again, right? I'm confident that tonight is my night."

Milano has his doubts and tries to get Naito to dig into more detail with regards his strategy but the 'Stardust Genius' just wittily replies that he plans to pin Punk, probably after a Stardust Press. Milano tries to stir the pot by asking Naito about his personal opinion on Punk, but he says nothing disrespectful about the IWGP Champion, apart from expressing his opinion that Punk talks too much. The interview ends with Naito promising the fans that he will take the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship away from CM Punk and the Bullet Club tonight.

Grade: 81 (B)

http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/Roster/KazuchikaOkada_zpsb8773b63.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/VS2_zpsfb32d472.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/Roster/BadLuckFale_zps6103dd21.jpg

Tokyo Dome Main Event Contract

'The Rainmaker' Kazuchika Okada © vs. 'The Underboss' Bad Luck Fale

30 Minute Time Limit ~ Referee: Red Shoes Unno

After Karl Anderson's declaration that ending Okada is now his personal mission, Fale has become something of an afterthought. Sure, the dude has a devastating finisher, one that could end a career someday but getting to that point is still a problem for him. Okada brings out the best in him and really accentuates the big man's strengths though and the two put on a very good match, although Okada struggles to set the big man up for a Rainmaker. Fortunately he has other moves in his arsenal and after his signature Dropkick lands on Fale's chin he locks on the devasating Red Ink submission. Fale tries to power out, he tries to move to the ropes but after 16 minutes working 'The Rainmakers' pace, he has no choice but to tap out before he passes out.

Winner: Kazuchika Okada (16:07)

Grade: 78 (B)

http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/Roster/HiroshiTanahashi_zpscceabf27.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/VS2_zpsfb32d472.jpghttp://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/q685/RynWlsn/Roster/ShinsukeNakamura_zps0fd9f3ce.jpg

Kings Of Pro-Wrestling #1 Contendership

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. 'King Of Strong Style' Shinsuke Nakamura

30 Minute Time Limit ~ Referee: Red Shoes Unno

We hop straight back into the ring for a match that's already happened three times this year but yet still never fails to deliver. These two are great rivals and with Tanahashi's distaste for strong style, he does everything within his power to shut Nakamura down and simply out-wrestle the 'King Of Strong Style' The two work the same dynamic that they did in the G1, Tanahashi works over the leg and keeps him grounded but Nakamura makes sure that he rallies back before any serious damage is done and stops Tanahashi from dictating the pace. Every time Tanahashi tries to go back to that left leg, Nakamura is able to avoid the Dragon Screw or the Dropkick and keep his opponent under pressure.

Towards the closing stretch, Tanahashi gives up entirely on working over Nakamura's left leg and instead just looks to try and snatch the pinfall win but Shinsuke slips through the Sling Blade and drops his opponent down on his knees with a Backstabber. Tanahashi returns fire with a Dragon Suplex and gets a close 2-count but then he gets caught charging in for the Sling Blade with a Boma Ye straight to the face! Nakamura doesn't pin him though, he waits for Tanahashi to get to his knees… and smashes him in the face with a second Boma Ye for the one, two - three!

Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura (24:14)

Grade: 89 (B+)

It's now time for the main event, but first, a video package details how we got here. For the most part, the video just timelines Naito's rise and subsequent struggles. We document his three previous shots at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship where he lost to Tanahashi at Destruction 2011, Okada at the NJPW 40th Anniversary Show in 2012 and Okada again at Wrestle Kingdom 8 this year. In a sit-down interview, Naito reveals that with every failed shot, he gets further and further away from ever winning the belt. He says that if he loses tonight, he doesn't know if he'll ever be the same person again. Punk on the other hand, is as confident as ever. He labels Naito's G1 Climax win over him a 'fluke' and says he will continue to prove to everybody that he is what he says he is, the 'Best In The World'.

Grade: 86 (B+)

Before the two opponents make their entrances, a brief video package runs through every person to hold the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, ending on reign number 60, CM Punk. Could we see the beginning of reign 61 tonight?

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship

'Best In The World' CM Punk © vs. 'Stardust Genius' Tetsuya Naito

60 Minute Time Limit ~ Referee: Red Shoes Unno

After Kimihiko Ozani handles the formal introductions, Red Shoes signals for the bell and we are underway. Like all of these matches, we start slowly and tentatively with neither Punk nor Naito wanting to make an early mistake. Punk takes control early on and focuses his attack on all of Naito's limbs, but mostly his left leg and left arm, the two he uses for his signature moves. Naito stunts his early momentum though and turns the tide back in his favour picking up a near-fall with a rope-assisted DDT before getting vicious with Punk outside the ring. He irish-whips the Champion into the guardrail and then clotheslines him over it into the crowd. Red Shoes initiates the count but there was no way Punk's pride was ever going to let him retain via count-out and thus he makes it back into the ring well before the 20. The momentum begins to swing back and forth at this point as both Punk and Naito find counter after counter and keep each other on their toes. Punk goes for an early Go To Sleep but Naito fights out, the 'Stardust Genius' seeks the Gloria but Punk slips out the back door over Naito's shoulder.

Naito does manage to lock on the Koji Clutch but considering he's used that move quite a bit himself, Punk is able to ride the pain and escape thanks to a rope break. He tries to fire back with an Anaconda Vice but Naito has it well-scouted and uses his legs to kick Punk away before rushing right into a straight knee to the face that Punk follows up on with a Bulldog for a 2-count. After a German Suplex and then a Dragon Suplex, Punk shows his resilience by kicking out of both but Naito slams him down with the Gloria and climbs up top… he leaps off with the Stardust Press…… but Punk rolls out the way! And now both are down and out as the Kawasaki Stadium rocks with a round of applause. Both Punk and Naito stumble back to their feet, jelly legs and all. They exchange forearms, back and forth, Naito lands and Punk fires straight back but that exchange ends when Punk ducks under a forearm and hoists Naito up on his shoulders for the Go To Sleep… but Naito counters it into an Inside Cradle! One… - two… no! The 'Best In The World' is able to slip out just before the 3! Naito tries to get something going as he rallies back with an Enzuigiri and then charges to the ropes as he flies through the air towards Punk looking for a Forearm Smash but Punk ducks under and catches Naito on his shoulders! The 'Stardust Genius' kicks his legs and tries desperately to claw his way out but Punk just refuses to let him go! The Go To Sleep connects! One… - two… - three!

Winner: CM Punk (31:13)

Grade: 86 (B+)

Note: Penalised for poor announcing… :(

As Naito is ejected from the ring by a host of ringside attendants; Karl Anderson, Doc Gallows, Alex Shelley, Tama Tonga and The Young Bucks all join CM Punk in the ring for a post-match victory party. There's streamers, some trophies and a host of photographers ringside to get some photographs for their magazines and websites.

But all of a sudden, the party is rudely interrupted by a familiar song…

And Shinsuke Nakamura emerges from behind the curtain!

He's not alone; Tomohiro Ishii, Masato Tanaka, Yujiro Takahashi, Gedo and Jado all follow him. The group hop into the ring as Nakamura and Punk stand toe-to-toe in an intense staredown. Gedo and Jado eye up The Young Bucks, Yujiro eyes up Alex Shelley and Tama Tonga and Ishii and Tanaka eye daggers at Anderson and Gallows. Nakamura points to Punk's IWGP World Heavyweight Championship and simply strolls off back up the ramp as the show closes with the continuation of a somewhat now subdued, less enthusiastic Bullet Club party.

  • 3 weeks later...

Okay, so it's been a while since I posted in here but I just wanted to say a few things. College is super hectic, it will be all year and I simply don't have the time nor motivation to keep this running anymore. I'm doing the equivalent of 6 subjects and looking for work experience at the same time. When I finally get downtime, I don't want to be slaving away at my laptop working this up, I'd rather just relax and give my brain a rest haha. However, I might start a new project, one that's a lot less serious, just something fun that I can write up from time to time and not have to worry about any kind of quality control. I set the bar pretty high for myself here. I don't know, we'll see.

It's a shame because I had a lot of storylines coming up that I was excited to write, Punk vs. Nakamura, and obviously, I won DOTM last month and that was great, I really appreciated that. I just wanted to fill you all in on some plans I had, the things that were going to happen but didn't.

The New Suzukigun & The Rise Of The Stardust Genius.

If I'm being totally honest, I booked Suzukigun like crap. They basically won no important matches and K.E.S. were normally used just to put other teams over. The week's TV immediately after Destruction was going to be a big one. AJPW's tag team champions, Suwama (also AJPW's Triple Crown champion) and Joe Doering, were going to debut and attack Goto & Shibata with Suzuki. The following week, Naito was going to snap and align himself with the group before going undefeated all the way up to the New Japan Cup in March where he would win that and then win the title at Invasion Attack. Who he took the title off was a different matter though...

Nakamura vs. Okada at the Dome.

It was obvious, Nakamura was winning the title from Punk at Kings Of Pro-Wrestling. Nakamura vs. Okada was going to be set up, I was even going to put them in the same block of the World Tag League just to build the heat up. I honestly had no idea who was going to win the singles match between the two. There's pros and cons either way. I think Naito avenging his defeats over Nakamura would have made a better story than him beating Okada though, for what it's worth.

The Bullet Club Gets Shot Down.

I honestly didn't enjoy writing this stable that much. My product didn't allow for dirty finishes, so I ended up just using them as a bunch of successful wrestlers that happened to just be heels. I wanted to make them all about Devitt, but then I made them all about Punk, then I began looking at possible ways to split them. Devitt vs. Punk would have happened, with Punk leaving the Bullet Club to form his own stable. I didn't see much direction for Punk beyond this though. He probably would have been found himself being used just to bump grades up. Devitt would have held the IC title for ages.

I was setting up to make KUSHIDA the centerpiece of my junior division. He was going to have a series of matches with Hayato Jr. Fujita and I think they would have been great. La Sombra was going to form a team with either Mistico or BUSHI, win the Super Junior Tag Tournament and then begin feuding with The Young Bucks.

Of course it goes without saying, thanks for reading and thanks for the support. Especially Wolfman, I think he followed this from the very beginning and was always there predicting away haha. This was fun and I know for a fact that I'll be back with another diary sooner or later. :)

Sounds like it was going to be a fun ride! I didn't comment or predict on this as much as I should have but I enjoyed every show you put out.

One thing that brings up a query, wouldn't Naito winning the title make him bigger than Suzuki and in effect bring about the end of Suzuki-gun and the rise of Naito-gun?

Haha, don't worry about it, thanks for following along.

Well, I guess something like that could have happened eventually, but I think it would have been a case of i) Suzuki finally being happy that his stable had won the IWGP championship and ii) Suzuki being happy to support Naito so long as he didn't fall out of line. I don't think Naito has the force of personality to run his own stable.

well I'm sad to hear that this is ending, I've really been enjoying it. But that said I entirely understand where you're coming from, in college I hardly had enough free time to play a normal game of TEW, let alone put the effort into it you do.

I hope you'll be sticking around the forum. I need someone to occasionally bounce ideas off of :p
