Grits Wrestling Federation - Headed Down South

Recommended Posts

Haley Buck slammed the trunk on her car and took one last look at her parents' house, where she lived the last 14 years of her life. She had just graduated from UNC two months ago. Her parents hoped she'd put her double degree of finance and business to use in a solid field - maybe banking, maybe industry, but definitely something they could easily tell other parents on their block about.

Haley had other plans.

Haley had grown up her entire life watching wrestling. When it was around, she loved SCCW. She begged her parents to take her to any show in the area, especially if Ricky Dale Johnson was on it. She watched any tapes she could get her hands on. When she was 6, her grandmother asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up. Haley said Rip Chord.

When she got to college, she worked hard. She had internships and work studies. During her junior year in college, when she finally got her car, she started driving to local shows and working as a valet. She listened to as many people as she could. She stayed for the entire show. She soaked up as much knowledge as she could.

Haley saved up as much as she could. She even sold her prized autograph collection on eBay, even the RDJ one. By the time she graduated, she had about $10,000 in the bank.

And then she opened Grits Wrestling Federation, named after her grandmother's famous breakfast specialty, it also evokes what Haley thought a successful wrestler would exhibit: grittiness. Haley loved the old school wrestling style of the south and she thought it could succeed in the modern day. Maybe not on a huge level, maybe not against SWF and TCW and USPW - but in a niche that would make people happy and, as Haley always paid attention to, be financially viable.

Haley turned the engine and drove off. To her new apartment. To her new job. To her new life.

So, basically this is my new secondary fed to my BHOTWG diary. I'm hoping having this as an alternative to it will help keep me motivated on the BHOTWG one as well.

It's not my style to write promos during diaries. You can expect descriptions of what a segment was trying to accomplish, but not full length, in-character promos. I'll do my best to describe the directions of storylines as they happen, though.

So, our strategy of hiring the cheapest workers we could find kind of worked. We put an extra $6,313 in the bank, almost doubling how much money we have. We hired literally every single male wrestler who costs less than $200 that we could.

Our current hiring rules are to avoid hiring anyone who's in a company that's bigger than us. We're a local company, so the only one that we could even look at hiring from is ACPW, and they're more popular than we are at the moment. If we save up some money, I'll consider hiring bigger names and possibly sharing them with other companies, but as of now we need to be smart with our money.

We're getting ready for GWF Saturday Night Special.

It's time for...

GWF Saturday Night Special

At the very start of the show, it's announced that four matches will serve as qualifiers for next month's tournament to name the very first GWF World Champion.

1. In an absolutely wretched bout that was devoid of action or heat, Leopard King and Penfold Perdition defeated Zachary Inc and Simon Ice in 8:09 when Leopard King defeated Zachary Inc by pinfall with a Leopard Leap. Rating: 14

Notes: Inc was exhausted by the end of this match. Bout dragged in the middle w/ a noticeable lack of flow. Elegance is a bad ref.

2. Haley Buck had an interview hyping the upcoming singles match between her client Irwin Gutmann and Alan Parent. Rating: 21

3. Anders Thunder had an interview hyping his upcoming singles match with Cerberus. Rating: 1

Note: Thunder's improvised dialogue was a complete disaster.

4. GWF World Championship Qualifier In an absolutely wretched bout that was devoid of action or heat, Anders Thunder defeated Cerberus in 5:35 by submission with a Side Bear Hug. Rating: 9

Notes: Thunder and Cerberus have pretty good chemistry.

5. Otto and Buzz had an interview hyping their upcoming tag match with Phobia and Victoria. Melvin Otto did most of the talking while Buzz Reid did his best to look menacing in the background. Rating: 19

Notes: Otto was very poor while trying to improvise dialogue.

6. GWF World Championship Qualifier In an absolutely wretched bout that was devoid of action or heat, Melvin Otto defeated Phobia in 10:54 by pinfall with a Prophet Motive. During the match we also had Buzz Reid run in and attack Phobia. Rating: 12

Notes: Phobia was visibly tiring by the end. Reid did good work at ringside, but he and Otto don't click at all. Match fell apart after a bit with no rhyme or reason to the moves. Elegeance is still bad.

7. GWF World Championship Qualifier In an absolutely wretched bout that was devoid of action or heat, Vikki Victoria defeated Buzz Reid in 7:42 by pinfall with a Life's A Drag. Rating: 7

Notes: Reid and Victoria were visibly tiring by the end. This match also fell apart after a bit.

8. Alan Parent had an interview hyping his upcoming singles match with Irwin Gutmann. Rating: 2

Notes: Parent was absolutely awful; his improvised dialogue was a complete disaster. The crowd really turned against this.

9. GWF World Championship Qualifier In an awful match that was completely devoid of heat, Irwin Gutmann defeated Alan Parent in 11:44 by submission with a Tiger Sleeper. During the match we also had Haley Buck distract Parent. Rating: 19

Notes: Buck did good work at ringside. There were times with a definite lack of psychology on display, causing the match to drift some. The match fell apart after a bit.

Overall rating: 16. This increased our popularity in one region.

Thoughts: Well, we lost a couple of fans from last time, but mostly stayed steady. We actually gained a point in popularity in the south east after this show. We also ended up with a $6214 profit for the month of February, putting us at $22.5k in the bank.

But, scripting every single match and letting every worker do unscripted promos is obviously not the solution here. We'll have to try some different things next month.

8. Vikki Victoria had an interview hyping his upcoming singles match with Irwin Gutmann. Rating: 14

9. Haley Buck had an interview hyping the upcoming singles match between her client Irwin Gutmann and Vikki Victoria. Rating: 26

10. In an awful match that was completely devoid of heat, Irwin Gutmann defeated Vikki Victoria in 12:15 by submission with a Tiger Sleeper. Irwin Gutmann wins the GWF World title. Rating: 21

Notes: Victoria was visibly tiring by the end. Buck did good work at ring side. The match fell apart after a bit, with no rhyme or reason to the moves.

Overall rating: 20. This show increased our popularity in one region.

We are now up to an importance of 6 in the south east, joining our popularity. With our two new hirings, our monthly profit dropped to $5.6k, but that's still pretty darn good. Our attendance has unfortunately fallen from 53 to 41 over these three shows - hopefully the fact we're putting on better shows each time will help reverse that trend.

We ended up making another $5,000 in profit.

Part of our problem going forward is that the U.S. is both horrible economically (it's at a 2, and falling - so we're probably talking Great Depression levels here) and in terms of wrestling interest (33 and falling). We're going to have to be careful moving forward.

The GWF September show, Smokestack Lightning, is coming up, and there are a couple of important matches coming up.

Despite Haley Buck's protests, Irwin Gutmann will be defending the GWF World Championship against a mystery opponent. Gutmann has remained as silent as ever with regard to who he suspects this challenger will be, but Buck says that no matter who it is, Gutmann will come out on top.

Vikki Victoria, the toughest man in a dress, still wants to get his hands on Melvin Otto. But Otto says for Victoria to get his shot, he has to earn it. First, Victoria needs to find a partner and win a tag match against Otto and his muscle, Buzz Reid. As of press time, it's not known who will be helping Victoria in this battle.

Thomas Morgan, who continues to demand a title match with Irwin Gutmann, has been signed to a match against Cerberus. Despite being much smaller than Cerberus, Morgan has said he views this as an opportunity to show he's deserving of a title match. But Cerberus wants that belt as well, and you can bet he'll put up a fight so he can show he's worthy.

Finally, GWF's own masked man, Acid II, wants to prove he's the best in the world - and he'll get a shot to start his world tour with a match against the Swede Anders Thunder. Will Thunder be able to use his size to his advantage, or will Acid be able to use his skills on his way to the win?
