D-Lyrium Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 That was the best snarky review ever. I used to hate the fact that he was called Arno instead of Arnaud. But unlike the rest of the game, that niggle had a satisfying conclusion when he turned out to be half Austrian, and thus being called Arno made sense. ACU was going to be the game that made me buy a PS4 (for my flatmates for Christmas, as I'm far too PC Master Race to have a console myself ¬_¬). But then it came out, and I was delighted not to have to spend so much money after all.
D-Lyrium Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I just spent the better part of an hour writing up a Lords of the Fallen review. Then my PC crashed. I am displeased by these events.
Ayden Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 I disagree on the grounds that I have zero familiarity with Fables and I think that The Wolf Among Us is one of the best games this year. Fair point, although I didn't say if you weren't familiar with the source material you wouldn't enjoy it, just that if you were familiar you may enjoy it more You should try reading the comics. They are fantastic

There is so much to be said about Ubisoft's latest release. This game has good bad and ugly. While it is DEFINITELY not one of the better Creed games, it is still a game worth a cheap purchase or rental.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> Let's start with the positives. The first thing I liked was the new combat system. The way the game introduced parrying and finishers made it feel really cool, and I will admit I marked out at how cool some of those assassinations were. In a way, it kind of reminds me of Ryse: Son of Rome's assassination system. The combat in this game was really fun, something I truly did enjoy.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> What else did I enjoy? Oh yes! The side missions! The side missions in this game were excellent. The social clubs were a great way of earning cash, the Paris Stories were fun icebreakers to pass time, and the murder mysteries were also intuitive in their own way. During my, I don't know, 30 hours with this game, I would have to estimate I spent at least ten of them exploring all around Paris and Versailles.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> One last credit I can give to this game is the beauty of it. Ubisoft really nailed the facial features in this game. The lip-syncing is on point. The people are in amazing detail. The entire city looks amazing. If you do decide to pick this up, check out some of the viewpoints and just marvel in the beauty of this open-world.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> Alright, now to get to the bad stuff. The controls. Oh boy, did the controls in this piss me off sometimes, pardon my language. Half the time, I found myself unable to enter viewpoints and control my jumps. You would think that for however long these games have been along that they would make the controls bearable. Nope, I guess that's too much to hope for. Maybe it'll be DLC.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> Why the f**k does this game have micro-transactions!? I don't like the future of games if AAA sixty dollars like this are including micro-transactions.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> As I'm sure you all have heard, this game does not exactly perform well. Falling through things, camera angles glitching, buggy maneuvering, the whole package comes with this game. Also, not to mention the frame rate being unstable. Ubisoft advertised this as I believe 25-30 FPS. That would be fine, as most games are just that. However, this game can't even keep a stable frame rate. No excuses for that.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> Overall, AC: Unity is a low-point in the Creed franchise. Whilst it is not the worst, it is certainly not the best. The improvements of this game simply can not make one overlook the blatant issues with this game. If you plan on purchasing this game, I would recommend two things. First off, wait until the damn game is stabilized, pardon my language again. Second off, wait until it's around $30-35 bucks or rent it. This game simply does not warrant your hard-earned sixty dollars. </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><span style="color:#2F4F4F;"><span style="font-size:14px;">Score: 6.5/10</span></span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><em>I should note that I wrote this all whilst the credits were rolling on the game.</em></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Main Ideas:</span></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> -Good combat</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> -Excellent side-missions</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> -Stunning visuals</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> -Glaring performance issues</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> -Annoying controls</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> -MICRO-TRANSACTIONS!</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Century Gothic';"> </span></p></div><p></p><p></p>

It did most things right. It gave people the customization they were looking for, and enough wrestlers to keep us all entertained for a good while. That's what a wrestling game should be, right? 2K15 just unfortunately did not deliver when it came to content. At first, I was fine with the features they removed in regards to customization. I thought, "Hey, I don't use these anyways!" Turns out, I actually do use them. Or I would, if they were actually there. Let me give you an example. Today I went to try and set up a WWE vs. WCW Universe Mode. Of course, their is no WCW arena in the game. I think, "Oh, I'll just create one!" WRONG, can't do that. Oh man, only eight divas for two brands, I should go get some more. WRONG, can't do that either. Why did we have to strip this game to the damn bone. Well, as that one song states "Better have my money!" I liked two things about this game. One: 2K Showcase mode. Two: New enhanced stamina system. Showcase mode was actually somewhat enjoyable for me. I may be unpopular by stating this but I do love the quick time actions and doing certain things. Best off, It's a great way of reliving rivalries from older times, you know, when WWE was actually good. I for one am excited for the Showcase DLC, and will be playing it all. I also loved the stamina system. It makes match have a certain sense of realism that older WWE games have been lacking. It gives each and every match a sense of fun, making you feel a little bit more strategic with your options. I like that, as I am a mark for good wrestling ability. 2K15 is realism, I will give it that. MyCareer. Another area where the developers couldn't capitalize. This could have been so much! This just makes me sad. Four years in, I'm sitting on SmackDown, having one match a month and having these awful rivalries that are supposed to be related to "stories". It's just a drag, a real drag. It's fun at first, but then it just becames too much of the same thing to be enjoyable for me. NBA's MyCareer is amazing! Why does WWE's have to be so lackluster Verdict: Here's my recommendation for you. Dont. Buy. This. Game. This game is a game you don't want to buy unless you find it ten dollars at a garage sale. If anything, rent it, beat both showcases, then get it out of your sights because there's nothing more that's fun in this game. Just a major step-back in all ways. If you don't already own it, go buy WWE 2K14 instead. It's about 35 bucks cheaper and 35 times more awesome. Need I say more? This game is NOT worth your hard earned money. Grade: 4.5/10 Main Points: ------------- -My career lacks depth -Some wrestlers don't look half bad -Showcase mode is a fun three hours -Good gameplay enhancements -Glaring lack of customization
Blackman Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 You are stepping into the trap of reviewing a game on what it could have been, as opposed to what it is. Haven't played the game and am not going to, as I think the animations are a crappy mess, but surely it must be better than 4.5, which - in my estimation - is a downright unplayable game. This looks like a bitter sneer to a company for ruining one of the series of games you love. That said, you are obviously right. They seemed to have stripped customisation and just offer a bland core of a game most people will be done with in mere days.

But that is why I add the points to kind of say why I gave it that. UFC got a 5, and to be honest I enjoyed that more than this, so a 4.5 it is. Got to be critical, make sure you guys are informed on the game's flaws.
packerman120 Posted November 30, 2014 Author Posted November 30, 2014 My Grading Scale: 10: Flawless. A game of the year contender, a true masterpiece of a video game. 9: Nearly flawless. A few flaws keep this game from the top, but it is still a very fun and amazing experience. 8: Great. This game is a great game. While it may have flaws, the game is still enjoyable in a large amount of ways. 7: Good. A gamer can find some interest in this game. It's pretty much your above average game. 6: OK. This game is the average game. It is kind of fun, but you will grow sick of it in due time. 5: Below Average: This game is not an enjoyable experience unless you are a huge fan of the game series, developer, etc. Most likely a game you will milk dry after a couple weeks of playtime. 4: Not Fun: This game has little to no fun for every gamer. A type of game you will play for an hour and regret spending your money on it. 3: Disappointing: This game is not only not fun, it is flawed. The game's features keep it from being any sort of fun for anyone. Lacking features to be a fun game. 2: Awful: This game to sum it up in one word. It SUCKS. No positive points and a crap ton of wrong points. 1: Waste of Time: Was this game made by pandas? How could a human make a game THIS BAD?

I'm fairly certain packerman isn't an IGN reviewer, so a 4.5 would be just below average. Personally I disagree in that I think the gameplay is a huge step up from years past and that alone would make the grade higher for me. But I don't think he's reviewing it on what could have been, he's reviewing it on what he expected out of a sequel to a game he liked. EDIT: A 5 is below average? Of course a Packers fan would think that.

It has more than an hour, but it definitely is a game you'll probably get bored of fairly quickly. Probably a 4.75, but it didn't deserve a 5 because it was worse than UFC, which got a 5.
Dawn Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 As I told you, WWE 2K15 is a 6 or a 6.5 for me. It can still bring enjoyment because of the gameplay, the graphics and possibly Universe depending on the person, but yeah, there is the bad. MyCareer is a grind, tiresome and repetitive, Online is shit, Showcase is a mode that you finish once and never return again, and the Creation Suite was really toned down this year, which gives the creation dudes pretty much nothing to do. Enjoyment can still be found, but I don't think that it is going to endure more than 1 month or 1 month and a half for the average gamer. If it wasn't for the gameplay and the graphics, the game would be a 4 for me as well, or possibly worse.

Well, it IS their first game with 2K Sports, so of course it's going to be rough around the edges. I'm certain that by the 3rd game, they will have smoothed them all out. BTW- Your rating scale makes ME want to do one! Cool idea man!
Blackman Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 In what world is a 4.5 unplayable? That is why you need to post your own personal scale (thanks for doing that btw). In my world (as I mentioned in the post) I consider 4.5 unplayable. The word unplayable - to me - is the fact that a rational man will rarely play it (if at all) because there are hundreds of better games out there. Now that the scale is there, I can really imagine what kind of game it is, whereas 4.5 - for me - would be an "avoid at all cost unless you're drunk with a friend". Some "bad" games, like Earth Defense Force, can be a blast to play (in aforementioned circumstances), but are objectively 'bad' games. And I agree there's just several genre games that are the only option and might therefore be considered playable ('for fans').
Dawn Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Also, poor Pandas. Pandas can make better games than most companies. lel.
Jaysin Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 In what world was WWE 2K14 amazing? It was almost the exact same game as WWE '13 with only a few bugs fixed and a different roster. The only enjoyment I got out of it was the WrestleMania mode and that was about it.

The Swanton825 Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Exactly. I think that people are being blinded because of the customization. I think Alpha Protocol is one of the greatest games of the last generation. People can have different opinions on things.

I know, but I'm talking about customization on the WWE games. People are suddenly idolizing the older WWE games because 2K15 has less customization. I respect the opinion of everyone, but it's just my cents.

People are suddenly idolizing the older WWE games because 2K15 has less customization. I respect the opinion of everyone, but it's just my cents. Oh, I see. I have to agree, but that happens with pretty much every game series, the newest one is always the worst until the next one comes out and then it's suddenly manna from heaven (see: Elder Scrolls, The). I probably could have worded my reply a little less dickish too. I'm still trying to work off how I used to act.
DaMegaFish Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v48/DaMegaFish/TWOM.jpg This War of Mine PC Just one more day. The wonder of what the next day will bring and how you'll stand to those challenges ensure that This War of Mine is a game that you'll struggle to put down until your group of survivors lives to see the end of the siege or until they meet their tragic ends. Every choice you make in This War of Mine matters, and as comfortable as you are, you'll still never feel safe. --Gameplay-- This War of Mine is a survival crafting game. I understand that crafting and survival games might be getting to the point where they seem overdone, but This War of Mine manages to weave in a fantastic narrative, both user created and driven by your characters, rarely seen in other crafting and survival games. Unlike most crafting games, This War of Mine features a fairly small selection of items, but it actually works to the games advantage keeping things fairly simple while making sure the main crafting items maintain their importance. You'll deal primarily with Wood, Components, Parts, and occasionally Electronic Parts. Nearly every item you craft in the game will require 2-3 types of ingredients to make, and those are ingredients you will definitely need elsewhere. No choice is ever simple, for example, you've done some work to make water and fuel, and you have food that you could cook while people are hungry but you also have an injured party member and you know making Moonshine could be really good for trading toward medical supplies tomorrow...providing the trader even shows up. It is nice to know that every choice has a consequence, and since the game deals with a bit of randomization, repeat plays won't feel the same. In the evening part of the game, you can send someone out from your party of 3 (later in the game, 4) to Scavenge. This means more tough choices. Every character has their own unique abilities, some which are better for the base and some are better for going out, such as having a larger bag or being a combat specialist and the like. Most characters have a generic backpack size of 10, but for example about abilities, my most recent play I had a character who was a "Skilled Scavenger" and he had a backpack size of 15. This is a huge thing to consider, as going out from base you'll often need to carry tools to get through the bombed out buildings, or to lock pick doors, the more tools you take however, the less space you'll have to bring items back. The game makes this even tougher by having very small stack sizes. Those main crafting ingredients I talked about earlier? 4 for Components, 2 for Wood for example. Most items seem to make out at 4 for their stack size, with a few exceptions. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v48/DaMegaFish/TWOM3.jpg In the evening though, there are more challenges than just figuring out which character you are taking and your load out, there are other survivors, some hostile, some neutral, some friendly. Interactions are pretty simple, as the game only uses 2 buttons on the mouse for everything. You'll click to walk around, and you'll click to interact. NPC's will be able to trade with you sometimes, or at places such as the hospital where the nurses will patch you up or give you pills. Other times you'll be required to fight, and to do that you'll simply switch from scavenge mode to one of your weapons, from there, it is simple as clicking on an enemy to attack. A lot of places will also have shadow areas for you to hide from enemies which is definitely your best option as you are NOT trained fighters, and every fight in the game is tense. You'll find though that most enemies in the game aren't actually enemies though, as they are just other survivors. Sure, that guy might have gotten angry and pulled a gun on you, but the game said he was living there with his parents and not inclined to trading and now you're in his house. What did you expect? This is another reason sneaking around can be a huge benefit, as you'll be able to avoid these conflicts all together if you can use the clues such as listening to sounds or reading what the NPC characters are saying. This day and night cycle is the majority of the game, and it works fantastically. Overnight, you'll sometimes be thrown a wrench by raids, and during the day you'll get people coming to your door asking for assistance from your party or just asking for supplies. And while that might be enough of a game for most people, This War of Mine takes it even one step further, as all these actions such as fighting, and helping neighbors have a huge impact on each team members morale. Most team members will be hugely upset if you decide to rob, or murder to get what you need. Some people don't mind, but generally the characters emotions are well done and they are important. A party member who is depressed might soon become broken, and if that happens they are going to drag the rest of the parties mood down. They may also leave in the night. You do have the option to try and talk people out of it, but that takes time, and time is everything. The day and night cycles are timed, and there is a lot to do during the day. If you have to spend one of your team members day trying to unbreak another party member, you are down at least half your team, and between fetching water, making tools, putting fuel in the stove, cooking food, checking the radio, answering the door and so on and so on and so on you will need every hand on deck. --Presentation-- The gameplay is complimented by a very nice graphic style and soundtrack. The soundtrack is fairly minimal, but does a good job making the world feel a bit hopeless. Also making the world feel a bit hopeless is the graphical style. The game plays in a 2D view that I would best describe as an ant farm. Every item in the game looks well enough, as do the characters who all look distinct and are easy to tell apart from each other. The color choice in the game is very cold, fitting well with the war setting. Blues and grays are abundant, with very few warm feeling areas. The biggest downside to the graphics is due to the gameplay using only two buttons. Since you use the mouse to do everything by clicking on icons that are above items, the screen can sometimes start to feel cluttered by these icons. It's just a minor problem, and not one that distracts too much from the overall presentation. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v48/DaMegaFish/TWOM2-1.jpg --Story-- This War of Mine, aside from the narrative you'll create going out on adventure, also has 12 characters with their own personal life background narrative. Your party will start with 3 randomized characters in the game, and you'll get another randomized character later, meaning you'll only ever see 4 stories at most during a great play through the game. It is all another reason to make sure your characters don't die, as their personal stories will slowly unlock piece by piece every handful of days. This does a fantastic job along with the randomness of what you find in the areas of the city of encouraging multiple plays. --Opportunities for Improvement-- The game isn't without some faults, though. If you clear out all the bandits in an area, the sense of threat in that area appears to be completely gone. I never once encountered any more bandits in the area. Another complaint I had, which might have been a bug was when I went to one area to trade. On accident I went too far in to the building while I was still in a feeling out stage in the game, and they got upset and pulled their guns out as I ran away. It would be understandable that the character that was chased out wouldn't be allowed back, but I found it bizzare that other party members who would go to that area would also be chased out. It just seemed a bit illogical and the only option if I ever wanted to return there was attempt to sneak around or fight everybody there. Finally, I'd like to see just more locations to visit. I want to say that the game had somewhere between 12-15 places to scavenge, and I'll be curious to see what really changes at them when I play through the game again, but I worry that they might start to feel repetitive themselves...that could be offset however by possibly having more random occasionally bandits at locations as I mentioned previously. --Final Word-- This War of Mine is worth every penny you'll put in to it. It's a challenging game and I've put 12 hours in between one very short initial learning play through, and then one complete 45 day play through. I've seen 4 characters stories from start to finish and I can't wait to go back and see the rest of the cast of characters. This game does a great job making you feel like you're going through this war WITH these characters instead of just guiding them through it. When they feel bad, they'll make you as the player feel bad, and when things start to look well for them all, you'll be happy that everyone is being properly taken care of. This War of Mine can be purchased for $20 on Steam, and it is a game that is a must buy in my book. You can also purchase it from GoG.com if you'd rather. 712/772 If you have any interest in this game, buy it. You won't regret it.
The Swanton825 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Your review has made me more interested in this game than I was before, but... 712/772 http://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/872/508/e30.gif
