mkpeak
01-12-2006, 11:32 AM Decision Time...Looking for input -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Decision Time… I am currently playing a career path which started me at Ball State in 1995. I have completed 6 seasons with Ball State and raised the prestige to a somewhat respectable 44. My All-World Defensive Coordinator has left for a head coaching position and my All-Everything ILB is most likely headed on to the NFL after being named the nations Top Linebacker, Disruptor and Defensive Player of the Year. Over these six seasons we have gone 2-2 in Conference Championship Games and 2-4 in Bowl Games. I received double digit job offers. I have eliminated most of the offers as they were from lower prestige schools. I am currently deciding my coaching future between Ball State (current team), Indiana (Alma Mater), and Georgia. Here’s what I know about each of these school current situation: School Prestige Open Schollies Expectations My Analysis Ball State 44 10 (Likely 11) Mid-Conf. & do well against S. Illinois It’s a small school with below avg. ability to generate funds for the budget despite the recent success on the field. Georgia 80 16 I’m expecting this number will increase due to Transfers and a player or 2 leaving early. Win SEC & Compete for Nat’l. Title The budget is close to $3 million and the assistant coaches are first rate assuming they stay on board. Indiana 41 11 Try not to Embarris school and good showing against Purdue (Top 10 team) This team is awful, including the current assistants and rebuilding will be hard because of the high number of young players and the Big Ten being loaded with Top 25 teams. The budget is $150,000 less than I have at Ball State. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since it looks like Ball State is headed for some lean years barring a miracle recruiting class, I would jump to Georgia. There will be more pressure to win but also more opportunity to do so. Even if you don’t meet expectations this job could lead to another good one. I wouldn’t even consider IU for a second. Why go down in prestige? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well id say if you have made it to 4 conference championships with ball st,id just stay there, because id say it would be real hard to compete for the big ten tittle with the hoosiers, georgias not a bad job,but the SEC is a tuff conference ,i should know im currently in 2019 with my tennesee dynasty and ive yet to win the conference. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take the Georgia job, it's a no brainer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't leave until you win a national championship... Georgia's promising, but that's a tough schedule. I say wait a year if neither of the two offers are that inviting, and then see what falls your way. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I like challenges so I would stay with Ball State or go to IU. Now being a born Hoosier I would never advise you to leave the state . But if you do happen to head south to GA. please take Mike Davis with you . -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote: Originally Posted by mh2365 I like challenges so I would stay with Ball State or go to IU. We're happy with Dennis Felton, thank you very much. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IRL, Georgia would be far and away the better job. Better publicity for your coaching career, more resources, better recruits, better facilities, many nationally televised games, nore chance for endorsement money, etc. There is no option in real life. But it comes down to how you want to play the game. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

mkpeak
Great News from the AD From: AD Subject: 2001 Financial Constraints You will have $2,505,000 available for your athletic budget. This marks a change of $145,000 from last season. Remember, this money needs to go towards scouting, assistants, other staff and medical training. You will also have $66,500 to spend on recruiting actions each week. Your weekly recruiting budget may also be impacted by efforts put into bringing other college-level transfers and is based on the alumni funding, other outside donations (helped by our prestige) and the number of scholarships available. So, good luck and spend wisely. Your job may depend on it.
mkpeak
On the Recruiting Front We only have 11 available scholarships to fill so we can be somewhat selective and will pay special attention to academics. Unfortunately, it appears last years recruiting success has sent many of the top recruits looking in other directions and despite some really good in-state players most are marginal students at best. mkpeak
Good News From the AD From: AD Subject: 2002 Financial Constraints You will have $2,535,000 available for your athletic budget. This marks a change of $30,000 from last season. Remember, this money needs to go towards scouting, assistants, other staff and medical training. You will also have $116,250 to spend on recruiting actions each week. Your weekly recruiting budget may also be impacted by efforts put into bringing other college-level transfers and is based on the alumni funding, other outside donations (helped by our prestige) and the number of scholarships available. So, good luck and spend wisely. Your job may depend on it.

mkpeak
Recruiting Class Rank: #3 We only had 19 scholarships available after 2 early departures. Odly, while having all 19 scholarships offered to recruits we received commitments from 2 other players we were recruiting while receiving commitments from 19 players that were offered scholarships. Somehow, we ended up with 21 commitments in this class when we only had 19 schollies available. Over-all, we have now have a 78 man roster (10 walk-ons) with 68 guys on scholarship. mkpeak
2003 Season Recap **NATIONAL CHAMPIONS** Coach Peak has completed the trifecta and ponders future. The Georgia Bulldogs proved to be too much for the USC Trojans. The 59 - 34 routing of USC has brought coach Peak and the Georgia Bulldogs three titles in as many years. In only 3 seasons at Georgia coach Peak has produced 3 National Championships. Publically, he says he's happen and loves the kids but privatley the rumors are abound. The word on the street has him seeking a return home to his midwestern roots in Indiana.
