WCW 1996: Big Changes Ahead...

Recommended Posts

In 1996 Eric Bischoff was the man in charge of WCW. The company, on the verge of making a run at being the number 1 wrestling company in the world, moved to his whims. He was a man with a plan to take the WWF down once and for all, unfortunately for him Ted Turner had a meeting with a man who had a vision for WCW that impressed Ted far more than anything Eric could dream up. This man was a former promoter, booker, manager, color commentator, ring crew member, and visionary. With one short meeting Eric Bischoff was out and WCW had a new direction, one that didn't include an NWO, a Hollywood Hogan, or a Crow-like Sting...

WCW Monday Nitro Week 1 May 1996 {81}

Live in front of 13,000 (sold out) fans in the Richmond Coliseum

Show opens with Jimmy Hart and The Giant in the ring. Jimmy praises The Gaiant as the biggest and baddest man to ever step fot in a wrestling ring. He then goes on to call Sting a loser who has no chance of taking the World Title away from The Giant. {85}

Big Bubba Rogers defeated Jim Duggan w/Madusa {59}

Standard match that saw Madusa take a nasty bump off the ring apron after Bubba slammed into her, leading to Jim Duggan checking on her and being counted out.

The Road Warriors defeated Men At Work {58}

Standard squash match.

After a commercial break Sting came out let the Giant know that he was merely keeping Sting's belt warm. Sting then went on to say all the little Stingers would not let Sting fail at reclaiming his World Championship title! {82}

Eddy Guerrero defeated Disco Inferno {65}

Typical back and forth match with a few comedy Disco bits and some Eddy high flying.

Kurasawa w/Sonny Onoo defeated The Renegade {44}

Without Madusa to guide him The Renegade looked lost, leading to plenty of Sonny Onoo interference and a Kurasawa win.

After the match Sonyy Onoo grabbed a mic and ripped into the “American” crowd. He then let the people know that an invasion, an Asain Invasion was going to take down all the weak American heroes like The Rengade! At this The Great Muta and Jushin Thunder Liger hit the ring and joined Kurasawa in assaulting The Renegade as the crowd booed loudly. {42}

Lex Luger defeated Bunkhouse Buck w/Col. Parker to retain the WCW Television Championship {68}

Luger dominated the match as Arn Anderson watched on from the entrance ramp.

As Nitro comes back from a commercial break Ric Flair and Ms Elizabeth is in the ring with a mic. Flair has a message for Randy Savage, telling him that “to be the man you have to beat the man and Ric Flair is the MAN! Woo!!” Flair then goes on to say that Savage is twice the loser and half the wrestler of Randy's father Angelo Poffo, a man Ric beat on several occassions. {100}

Harlem Heat w/Sister Sherri defeated the Steiner Brothers {76}

A typical tag match that saw Sister Sherri distract Rick Steiner leading to the victory by Booker T.

Nitro cuts to a backstage segment where Kevin Sullivan is standing inside a dungeon with Meng. Kevin tells Hulk Hogan that he will destroy Hulkamania once and for all. He then tells Hogan that there is nothing Hulk can do to stop him because if he did what it took then Hogan would end up just like Kevin Sullivan....and then the Dungeon of Doom still wins! {82}

Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage defeated Benoit & Malenko {75}

This was a standard Hogan type match until Meng showed up and delivered a Tongan Death Grip to Hogan who was waiting for the tag from Randy Savage. As Hogan was slammed from the ring apron Savage fought off Benoit & Malenko gaining the win with aFlying Elbow Drop on Benoit. Thus Nitro ended with Savage helping EMTs check on Hogan.

WCW Saturday Night Week 1 May 1996 {64}

Live in front of 2,000(Sold Out) fans in the Pikesville College Gym

The show opens with Col. Robert Parker in the ring with his client Dick Slater. Col. Parker tells the fans that Dick is the best old school wrassler in WCW and it won't be long before he has gold around his waist. He then goes on to say that tonight's match is nothing but a formality as Dick will clearly be walking out with the win. {54}

Eddy Guerrero defeated Dirty Dick Slater w/Col. Parker {62}

Eddy took the advantage early in this one and only lost it due to a distraction by Col. Parker. Ultimately Col. Parker was Dick's undoing as a distraction by Col. Parker and then interference from Bunkhouse Buck lead to Dick Slater being DQ'ed and Eddy being awarded the victory.

Fire & Ice defeated The State Patrol {44}

DDP comes out to the ring and tells the Booty Man that their match for the Number Contendership to the US Title is the first step on the road to greatness for DDP. He then says that his star is just rising as The Booty Man's is fading into nothingness monkey boy! {56}

Lord Steven Regal defeated Cobra {60}

The Nasty Boys defeated Men At Work{52}

Benoit & Malenko defeated The American Males {71}

Alex Wright and Disco Inferno are in the ring ready for their match when suddenly the two begin a dance off. Disco bust out some Travolt like moves while Alex does a weird pelvic thrust that the ladies go crazy over. The crowd awaards the dance off to Alex, which angers Disco... {45}

Disco Inferno defeated Alex Wright {58}

Jimmy Hart is in the ring with Meng and The Barbarian. He calls the duo the Faces of Fear and lets Hogan and the world know that they are the first and last members of The Dungeon of Doom Hulk Hogan will ever meet in the ring, because they will destroy Hulkamania! {70}

The Faces of Fear w/Jimmy Hart defeated Maj. Craig Pittman and Steve Doll {56}

Konan defeated V. K. Wallstreet {62}

Arn Anderson is backstage and he tells Lex that Arn never forgot how Lex ruined the good name of the Horsemen. Arn says that the Four Horsemen went from being the elite in wrestling to a joke the day they let Lex join and now Arn will erase that mistake from wrestling and remove the shame from the Horsemen legacy.... {79}

Lex Luger defeated The Gambler to retain the TV Championship {60}

Once again Arn watched Lex Luger's match from the entrance ramp....

Dean Malenko - match literally could go either way here.

Alex Wright - Das Wunderkind could still get a push, whereas Buck is probably time decline

The Road Warriors

DDP - I don't remember who has the title, but Page will be a better match than Booty

Muta and Kurasawa - not much of an invasion if they don't win sometimes

Lex Luger

Sting

Randy Savage

Good first shows, can't wait to see where you go next with this!

From a ratings perspective, this will be a far, far superior offering to both your previous episodes -- I'm guessing last weeks 70 Show lead to some quick action on your part. Again, Sting-Regal should be a great match. Regal deserves a major push on account not only of his solid basics but of his natural rivalry with the patriotic WCW Faces: Luger, Hogan and Sting have various versions of the patriot gimmick, and he is a natural ally of Flair.

WCW Monday Nitro Week 2 May 1996 {89}

Live in front of 15,000 (sold out) fans in the Coleman Coliseum

Monday Nitro kicks off with Hulk Hogan in the ring. After getting the crowd going crazy over his typical flex and ear pose, Hogan quiets the crowd. The Hulkster grabs a mic and begins to call out the Dungeon of Doom and Kevin Sullivan in particular. Hogan says he doesn't need to rely on anyone else to fight his battles, because “Hulkamania is the strongest force in the world brother!” Hogan then says he may not be “medically cleared to wrestle tonight due to last week's assault by Meng and The Barbarian, but next week he will meet Meng one on one in the ring and begin to dismantle the Dungeon of Doom once and for all!” He ends his promo with “Hulkamania will never die because it is the only immortal thing in this universe, so Kevin you can talk all you want, but what's he gonna do when the immortal and incorruptible Hulkamania runs wild on you!” {97}

Eddy Guerrero defeated Dean Malenko {76}

This was a great back and forth match with many quick reversals and exchanges. Eddy emerged triumphant after landing a picture perfect Frog Splash.

Bunkhouse Buck w/Col. Parker defeated Alex Wright {59}

This match had a lot of interference as Col. Parker, Dick Slater and Disco Inferno all got involved. Disco's appearance near the ring dancing like a Saturday Night Fever extra lead to Alex Wright dancing in the ring angrily. As the referee tried to get Disco away from the ring Dick Slater slid inside and nailed Wright with a chair as Col. Parker yelled at Alex.

After the match Disco Inferno ran back out and joined Dick Slater, Bunkhouse Buck and Col. Parker in assaulting Alex Wright. As the three wrestlers worked Alex over Col. Parker began to taunt the crowd and Wright until Eddy Guerrero came running out with a chair in hand, clearing the ring in the process. The announcers speculated that Eddy came out due to his match last week with Slater and all the interference he suffered at the hands of Buck and Col. Parker and not for any love of Wright. {52}

The Road Warriors defeated Fire & Ice {68}

Shockingly this match was pretty even as The Road Warriors experience as tag partners seemed to be the single reason they pulled off the win here tonight.

DDP defeated The Booty Man w/Booty Babe to become the No. 1 Contender to the US Championship! {66}

This was a back and forth match that saw neither man have a clear advantage, seemingly due to both men pulling out all stops to become the No. 1 Contender to the US Title. The end of the match came when Booty Babe got on the apron and DDP grabbed her and planted a big kiss on her leading to Booty Babe trying to slap DDP but missing and nailing The Booty Man. As The Booty Man looked confused and Booty Babe looked in shock, DDP rolled up The Booty Man and used the ropes for leverage and the win!

After a commercial break we get word that the WCW president would be coming out and ruling on the finish to the last match. As the crowd waited an unfamiliar southern style song played and out walked Jim Cornette! Cornette walks to the ring with a microphone as the crowd and announcers are in shock. Jim then begins to cut a typical machine gun style Cornette promo.

“First off, let me say it is great to be in WCW, the last bastion of true wrestling action. With that said, allow me to introduce myself for the kids to young to know me, I am Jim Cornette the new President of WCW. Now, we just saw Diamond Dallas Page win the No. 1 Contendership to Konnan's US Championship after cheating and assaulting a woman, two thing Jim Cornette won't stand by and let happen in WCW. Now, neither act was caught by the referee so I won't be reversing his decision, after all this isn't football with fancy instant replays. If the referee misses something, well then I guess he misses something. However, after speaking with Konnan I will say that when Diamond Dallas Page faces the US champion The Booty Babe will be in Konnan's corner and any actions she takes will be totally legal. However, if Page puts his hands or any other part of his body on the Booty Babe he will not only lose the match but he will be fired from WCW!” {73}

The Great Muta and Kurasawa w/Sonny Onoo defeated Jim Duggan and The Renegade w/Madusa {67}

Duggan and Renegade had the crowd clearly behind them with lots of USA chants, but the numbers game was too much as Jushin Thunder Liger and Tanaka worked over Duggan on the outside as Muta and Kurasaw double teamed The Renegade in the ring and took the win.

Lex Liuger defeated The Mauler to retain the TV Championship {72}

Lex easily dominated The Mauler as the announcers noted Arn was not watching the match tonight.

As Lex was getting out of the ring Arn Anderson came out from the crowd and attacked Lex with a pair of brass knuckles. Lex was left knocked out near the ring as Arn took the TV title and walked to the back, past the flood of rushing EMTs. {87}

Sting defeated Lord Steven Regal {81}

This was a surprisingly even match as Regal was able to match Sting move for move until the crowd got behind Sting leading to a series of Stinger Splashes and a Scorpion Death Lock for the win.

After the match The Giant and Jimmy Hart come down to the ring. Sting waves them into the ring and The Giant gladly accepts the invite. Sting lands a few blows but The Giant shrugs them off before grabbing Sting by the neck and slamming him to the mat in one quick motion. Jimmy Har taunts Sting as the Giant puts a foot on the downed Sting. Hart makes a 3 count as the crowd boos, the announcers noting that Sting just fought a long and tough match with Lord Regal which is probably why he was so weak. Heenan saying Sting isn't knocked out, he's just resting after that long match. {87}

Randy Savage defeated Chris Benoit w/Woman {89}

Randy was clearly the one in control of this match as the smaller Benoit was only able to get a rally going after Woman distracted the ref and Chris gave Randy a low blow. Despite Chris being outmatched by Savage, the announcers were impressed by his technical prowess and ability to last so long against a legend like Savage.

After the match Ric Flair and Ms. Elizabeth come out to the entrance ramp as Macho Man Randy Savage looks on in anger. Ric pulls out a microphone and taunts Randy saying “Stay right there Randy, I want you to have a front row seat for this video screening.” Randy grabs a microphone from ringside and tells Ric “I don't care what you and Liz are doing in your private time, you're both adults and me and her are finished!” Ric and Liz laugh and Ric simply says...”Oh, you'll be interested in this...”

A video plays on the Turner-Tron as the announcers warn that the children may need to be put to bed early. In the video we see Ric and Liz eating breakfast as Randy speaks from the ring “That looks like my old house?” We then see Liz give Ric a kiss before Ric picks up the paper and we see the date on it as August 27, 1991. Randy looks shocked as Ric begins to taunt him once again saying “For those of you who don't know, that would be the day after Randy and Liz had a match made in Heaven, although it was me who had Liz seeing God on the honeymoon morning! Woo!” Nitro ended with a shocked crowd, speechless announcers, and Randy on his knees from the startling revelation! {100}

Backstage we see Teddy Long and “Hardwork” Bobby Walker standing in front of a brick wall. Teddy looks at the camera and lets the world know that “Bobby Walker is the next big thing in WCW and someday soon he will have gold around his waist, believe that playa!” {26}

Disco Inferno defeated Billy Kidman {42}

Disco was in rare form as he ditched the dancing and was all business.

The Blue Bloods (Regal and Eaton) defeated The Nasty Boys {69}

Regal and Eaton showed quite the ability to work as a team, leading to some speculation that these two could make a run for the tag titles soon.

We go backstage once again this time with Lanny Poffo and Men At Work. Poffo claims that “Kanyon and Starr have all the tools they need to make an impact in WCW now that they have a genius for a manager. {24}

State Patrol defeated Prince Iaukea and Mr. JL {35}

The team of Iaukea and JL had no prior experience tagging before tonight and it showed as the more seasoned State Patrol took this match with ease.

Jimmy Hart and The Barbarian are already in the ring when WCW Saturday Night comes back from break. Jimmy lets the crowd know that “The Barbarian doesn't win matches....he beats people baby! Tonight The Barbarian will destroy Cobra and put him out of WCW just like he will do to Hulk Hogan at the PPV!” {65}

The Barbarian w/Jimmy Hart defeated Cobra {44}

Barbarian dominated this match and finished Cobra off in almost record time.

Sonny Onoo is in the ring with Kurasawa and Tanaka when WCW Saturday Night returns from another break. Onoo tells the crowd “The Asian Invasion will destroy all of your so called heroes and demonstrate the superiority of the Japanese athlete once and for all! Tonight your American Males will be added to our list of victims. {33}

The Asian Invasion (Kurasawa & Tanaka} defeated The American Males {51}

The angry American crowd was actually behind the American Males tonight but the young duo fell short against the Asian Invasion.

Konnan defeated Shark {57}

Konnan showed exactly why he is the US Champion by defeating the bigger Shark with little trouble.

Before the main event of the evening Lex Luger grabs a mic and begins to cut a promo on Arn Anderson. Lex tells Arn and the world that “Arn you were almost right about what you said about the Horsemen beginning to decline when I joined, except the truth is the decline happened after I left! That's right, I left the Horsemen you guys never kicked me out! And when I left, I took the best thing you guys had going for you, youth, power, and the ability to win the World Championship! Something you have never even gotten close to doing Arn. Now, at the upcoming PPV me and Sting have a World Tag Team Title match on the card, but at next week's Nitro....well I have no challenger lined up to face me for the WCW TV Title...unless you call up Jim Cornette and ask to step in the ring with the total package!” {82}

Lex Luger defeated V. K. Wallstreet to retain the WCW TV Championship {70}

Lex had a fairly easy time defeating Wallstreet although the announcers noted that if Lex did lose his challenge to Arn would have been a moot point.

WCW Monday Nitro Week 3 May 1996 {84}

Live in front of 15,000 (sold out) fans in the Breslin Center

WCW Monday Nitro opens with Randy Macho Man Savage in the ring with a mic in hand. Randy doesn't seem to have the usual spirit and energy he is known for, but instead looks like a man who hasn't slept in a week. Slowly Macho Man begins to promo on his life and what Ric's revelation means to him... “I loved this business when I was just a child and I saw my father Angelo Poffo compete in front of screaming crowds of rowdy fans. I loved it when I was a snot nosed punk starting out, fighting to earn my place in this sport. I loved it when I was up in New York. I really loved it when I got the offer to come here to WCW and wrestle for all of you fans. Last week, well, that's when I stopped loving it. Last week Ric Flair took something from me that I don't think I can ever get back. It wasn't the life I had with Liz, because despite what he showed me and Liz had great times. No, what Ric took was that love for this sport, because he made things personal instead of professional. He took what was supposed to stay out of the spotlight and put it on national television. Ric, we don't need to have a match, you won...I quit! Now this wasn't an easy decision and I'm sure that it isn't one that will be popular with you fans, but as of right now I am done with wrestling...” {100}

Eddy Guerrero defeated Big Bubba Rogers {64}

Despite the size disadvantage, Eddy was able to use his speed to take Big Bubba off his game. The fans really seem to be getting behind Eddy.

Jushin “Thunder” Liger w/Sonny Onoo defeated Major Craig Pittman {57}

Liger was able to defeat Pittman with ease as Sonny Onoo taunted the crowd from ringside.

After a brief commercial break Nitro comes back with Jim Cornette in the ring holding a microphone and a briefcase. The announcers speculate that he will address the Randy Savage situation. Cornette begins to speak into his microphone as the crowd grows silent. “First off I didn't come out here to address what Rand Savage said at the top of the show. I was just as shocked as you were when Randy said he was done with wrestling and frankly after last week's disturbing video footage provided by Ric Flair I can't say I blame him. On behalf of WCW I want to wish Randy the best of luck in whatever he chooses to do with his life from here on out. With that said, the reason I am out here is to announce the creation of the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship! {Cornette opens the briefcase to reveal the WCW Cruiserweigt title belt.} Now, in order to ensure that the only best cruiserweight wrestlers ever wear this belt WCW has partnered with NJPW, AAA, CMLL, FMW, and M-Pro! Next week we will hold an eight man single elimination tournament to determine the WCW representative to the big WCW World Cruiserweigt invitation only 8 man double elimination tournament to be held live on PPV the Friday prior to WCW Mayhem. And in order to make sure each and every one of you fans and all of the great fans at home can enjoy the show, if you order both Mayhem and WCW: Crowning of a Champion, the official name of the Cruiserweight PPV, then you will save 25% off the cost of both! Thank you and enjoy the rest of the show.” {68}

The Road Warriors defeated Dean Malenko & Chris Benoit w/Woman {85}

Once again it seems like the Road Warriors have lost some of their steam as Malenko & Benoit are able to take the advantage several times during the match. Ultimately it was size and skill that allowed the Road Warriors to win the match.

After another commercial break Dusty Rhodes is in the ring with a microphone. The announcers seem confused as they were told the debut of Frost was up next, yet Dusty was in the ring. Dusty begins to speak in his typical lisping jive style talk that he is famous for... “Ladies and gentlemen I am sure you are glad to see me! Now, the announcers have told you that a new wrestler is debuting tonight and baby is he one bad dude. You see, the reason I have been absent from WCW television is because I was traveling the Japanese continent and I have found a wrestler that incorporates all the high flying of a luchador with the techinal prowess of a black belt. Ladies and gentlemen allow me to introduce to you the newest talent to land in WCW and my client...Frost!”

After entering the ring, Frost demonstrates a few karate kicks and several flips before bowing to Dusty Rhodes. Dusty then holds up Frost's arm as the crowd goes wild and Nitro goes to another break. {80}

V. K. Wallstreet defeated Alex Wright {61}

Alex Wright went move for move with Wallstreet until Disco Inferno showed up and started dancing near ringside. A distracted Alex Wright was easily rolled up by V. K. Wallstreet for the pinfall win.

After the match Disco slides into the ring and nails Alex Wright with a Chart Buster. As Alex lay there writhing in pain Disco bust out a few dance moves for the crowd. {43}

The Faces of Fear w/Jimmy Hart defeated The Steiner Brothers {79}

Ion an extremely stiff match the Steiner Brothers just couldn't contend with the outside interference and distractions from Jimmy Hart.

Jim Duggan w/Madusa defeated The Mauler {55}

Duggan made short work of the Mauler and despite The Asian Invasion coming to the entrance ramp they never got involved in this match.

Backstage the camera catch up to Ric Flair who is on a cell phone speaking with an unknown man. “Yeah, you'll fit right in the group... Hold on, these damn cameras are everywhere. I bet you want a comment on Randy's little speech. Well, here it is... Randy, I knew you were a coward and a loser, woo! No one will miss you and not a single fan will even notice you're part time wrestling gone from WCW TV. Woooooo!” {100}

The Giant w/Jimmy Hart defeated Fire & Ice {55}

Despite the fact that Fire & Ice combined weighed more than the Giant, neither man seemed able to hurt him. After a double chokeslam the Giant pinned both men, Jimmy Hart laughing the entire time.

Lex Luger© DREW with Arn Anderson for the TV Title {72}

After wrestling a full 10 minutes neither man was able to score a win so the match was declared a time limit draw per the TV title stipulations.

Sting & Hulk Hogan defeated The Blue Bloods (Eaton & Regal) {81}

Sting wrestled most of the match with Hogan coming in for a hot tag, a big boot, and a leg drop to get the victory for his team.

After the match Hogan grabbed a mic and began to speak. “Listen up brothers, Randy is like a brother to me brothers and no one, not even slick Ric Flair is going to be allowed to trash talk him while I'm around brothers. Ric, you made a good man hang up his boots and for that brother there will be hell to pay. Now, I have business I need to finish up with the Dungeon of Doom brother so I can't face you myself, but if you're man enough I got the perfect opponent for you to face at Mayhem now that Randy is done with wrestling.... I expect you're answer next week and if it's a yes, well then you can meet your opponent face to face before he breaks you in half at Mayhem. So whatcha gonna do Ric, when my mystery buddy runs wild on you?

WCW Saturday Night Week 3 May 1996 {75}

Live in front of 2,000(Sold Out) fans in the Pikesville College Gym

Fire & Ice defeated Bunkhouse Buck & Dirty Dick Slater w/Col. Parker {46}

This was a classic back and forth match until Eddy Guerrero showed up and stopped Col. Parker from helping his clients. This lead to Dick Slater getting distracted then put down with a Power Bomb from Scott Norton before being pinned.

Sonny Onoo comes down to the ring with a huge man in a black mask. The mask has Japanese writing on it, the same writing that covers the black and grey ring gear of the mystery man. Sonny grabs a mic and begins to speak, “Ladies and gentlemen of the weak nation of America, I give to you the latest addition to the Asian Invasion....Super J! He is the biggest, meanest, and toughest wrestler to ever come from Japan and soon he will have all of your American wrestlers begging for mercy! In a few moments you will see the kind of destruction he brings when he destroys that American dog Maj. Craig Pittman.” {37}

Super J w/Sony Onoo defeated Maj. Craig Pittman {34}

Super J dominated the match and forced Pittman to submit to the Rising Sun{Pallo Special}.

Lord Steven Regal defeated Steve McMichael w/Debra McMichael {66}

Clearly Mongo was out of his element as the wily ring veteran Regal gained control early and never let it go.

A replay of Frost's debut plays as the announcers put over Dusty's new client. {92}

Shark and Hugh Morrus w/Kevin Sullivan and Jimmy Hart defeated The Nasty Boys {59}

In a hard hitting match that featured a lot of brawling, the high flying ability of Morrus seemed to be the deciding factor in the outcome.

A replay of Jim Cornette's announcement concerning the WCW Cruiserweight Championship plays. {77}

Kurasawa w/Sonny Onoo defeated Evad Sullivan {44}

Evad still seems lost after being abandoned by his brother Kevin, thus making him an easy victory for Kurasawa.

The Barbarian w/Jimmy Hart defeated Billy Kidman {52}

In a one sided squash, the Barbarian made extremely short work of Billy Kidman.

After a commercial break Sister Sherri and Harlem Heat appear in the ring. Sherri has a mic and she looks ready to speak... “In this ring behind me are the greatest tag team to ever come to WCW, yet they keep getting overlooked by the WCW Championship committee in favor of teams like The Steiner Brothers and the Road Warriors. Well, Harlem Heat can beat those teams any day of the week! In fact, we want a number one contendership match next week on WCW Monday Nitro. Since we already defeated The Steiner Brothers we will be willing to do the same to The Road Warriors! That should prove once and for all who the greatest tag team is!” {66}

Harlem Heat w/Sister Sherri defeated the American Males {66}

In a short match Harlem Heat showed the world just why they deserve a shot at the tag titles.

Eddy Guerrero defeated V. K. Wallstreet {69}

Col. Parker tried to attack Eddy with his cane but he missed and nailed Wallstreet, giving Eddy a chance at a pin and the win.

Lex Luger comes down to the ring for his TV Championship match with Big Bubba Rogers with a mic in hand. Lex holds his title up before he begins to speak... “Arn, you came awfully close to winning this title on Nitro, but like all the men who face Lex Luger you came up short. On WCW Nitro I'm going to give you another shot, but this time I have asked the WCW Championship committee to lift the TV Title time limit. When I beat you on Nitro, you will have no excuses! {88}

Lex Luger defeated Big Bubba Rogers {74}

Lex clearly had control of this one and looked to win clean when Arn Anderson came out and smacked Lex across the back with the WCW TV Title costing Big Bubba the match. Afterward Arn walks off with the TV title as WCW Saturday Night goes off the air.
