BHK1978
What is this? It is a fictional mod set in 1985. Why are you posting this now? Well I saw that the Thunderverse people were going to be putting out a mod that was based in the 1980’s and so I am putting this here so that people do not think I am copying them. A little backstory the genesis of this mod: Now I would like to give a little backstory about this mod. I was once part of a mod on here called the Kobeverse or Board Effort mod. Basically it was a mod that anyone could work on and it ended up turning into a huge mess. There were people with huge egos working on that mod and people clashed over the mod constantly. Once it died I will freely admit to being very bitter with what happened. After all I created a good portion of the companies in the United States region of the game and so I saw countless hours go down the drain just because people could not get along with each other. After the BEM officially died I started working on this mod. I created over four hundred workers and was getting ready to show it on the board and then my old computer died wiping out all of my work. To say I was angry would be an understatement. Once again a mod I had put a lot of work into had died, so I was very apprehensive about starting over again. In fact I walked away from playing TEW and writing diaries for nearly a year because I was so annoyed with what had happened. In December of last year I decided to start all over again. Work has been slow due to real life and sometimes I just have a creative block and I cannot think of interesting characters. That is what brings me to this point, right now I have this mod I am creating and while I only have one hundred and twelve characters created, I would eventually like to release it to the board in general. Granted I have no idea of how long it will take and I am not sure if it will ever see the light of day but it is my hope that it one day does. So yes this could very well end up being one of the many mods on here that ends up in the mod graveyard, but I really hope that is not the case. Will this potential mod have graphics or renders? I would say it is highly unlikely that will happen. Mainly because I am not good at graphics and while I think I could probably pick up on doing renders I am not going to spend money to make good renders. That is simply because I could not justify spending a lot of money on something that I consider to be a hobby. Now I could try to farm the work out but I would never do that because I would feel funny asking folks to do it for me for free. Plus that was a huge reason as to why the previous mod I was working on ended up dying, there was a big fight over rendering. Also, I would never ask for someone else to do that stuff for me because it could not be mod exclusive unless I made it myself. Basically you have no rights to your ideas as a mod maker on this board. Therefore, if you come up with a company name and a concept for the logo and you have someone else make that logo it is not your logo it is the person who made the logo for you. If the logo maker gives someone else permission to use that logo the other person can use it. I was informed of this by Adam after a modmaker told me he was going to use my ideas in his mod and Adam backed him up. I do not agree with this rule because I do think one should have rights to their intellectual property, but it is the rule of the site so I respect it. Therefore, if this mod does see the light of day chances are it would have no graphics or renders. Will others be working on this mod? That is a tough question to answer. I would love to work with others but after the bad experience I had on the BEM I am not sure if I would be willing to work with others and I am not sure people would want to work with me. The infighting on the BEM was yet another reason why the mod failed. Simply put there were too many chefs in the kitchen and that left the mod feeling very disjointed. There was no sort of uniformity in the worker bios and the mod’s various companies felt like they did not match up well. When working on the previous mod we would pass the mod around and people working on the mod would make changes to it. Now in theory it sounded like a great idea but in actuality it was a terrible idea. The reason for me saying that is because people would make changes to other people’s workers. One person imported C-Verse move sets into a mod that had nothing to do with the C-Verse. It just became a complete headache. Another thing that stunk about working with others was dealing with egos. There were people on the BEM that wanted to showcase their work there so that they could become popular on the board. That obviously is not a factual statement and purely my opinion but it is an opinion that I stick by. Will your workers be based on real life workers from that time? Of course they will. There is not a fictional mod on here that does not have workers based on real life workers to some degree. Now I am not saying all of the workers will be based on real life workers (For instance, I have a character based on Gene Hunt from English show Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes. As you can see there will be characters not based on real life characters) but there will be some. The same goes with companies. There are companies in the game that are clearly based on real life companies. For instance there are clear versions of the WWF, AWA, and Crockett NWA in the mod and because I am more familiar with those companies it can be expected that there will be workers in those companies that will have real life counterparts. That is the way I do things because I personally like a frame of reference when playing a game. Will you release the data to the public? Probably not anytime soon as this is more of a placeholder thread and the mod it truly in it infancy. I mean I highly doubt anyone wants to take a look at a mod that has only two functional companies and a third that is halfway done. However, if people want to take a look at it, I might let people who I have interacted with on here in the past have a look at it if they wanted to give me some feedback. I would be very selective about who I would let see it at this stage. Well that is that. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. Also, as a side note to the person/persons who always one-star my threads feel free to do so again. You will make me laugh and I have already done it for you. Midnightnick
Break the norms! I'm on board dude. Hit me up if there's anything I can do?
Justin
Here's what I hope is good advice: 1.) Use Google Drive for your writing. It's fantastic, and when your computer crashes, all of your work is safe in the cloud, or wherever Google stores it. I've been using it for the efed I run for a couple of years now, it's a God-send. 2.) Use your old ideas. If you can remember them, or bits about them, USE THEM! To hell with other aye-holes, do your thing your way and have fun with it, because if it's not fun for you I can promise you'll never finish it. I'll look in on this, as much as I love Thunderverse I'd love to see another mod like it because I'm scatter-brained and involved in entirely too many projects at once. Fleisch
2.) Use your old ideas. If you can remember them, or bits about them, USE THEM! To hell with other aye-holes, do your thing your way and have fun with it, because if it's not fun for you I can promise you'll never finish it. This is actually excellent advice. If you're not having fun with making it 1 of 2 things will happen, you'll never release anything or you'll release a steaming pile of disjointed rubbish. That is experience talking on my part. I wish you the best of luck with this, and if you do get something released I look forward to giving it a run through. More mods the better I say. Also, the majority of people here are very helpful, grateful and act like human beings, it is a minority that try to spoil it with their self entitled ways in which they believe they are owed something so keep that in mind. Most of us are here and willing to assist you with ideas if you need them (not saying you will). 2 people on here almost killed any chance of any of my mods being released until I realised that they were just trolls with nothing better to do with their miserable lives. Hope that's motivation and advice enough.
