gV7ZsBi5WZ
Okay, this may seem like a very bizarre thread, but I'd appreciate some feedback and assistance with how to play a simulation game such as this. It's nothing to do with the game mechanics or I don't know how to book cards, it's actually more on the side of an OCD thing I have where simulation games are really hard to commit to. I understand this may seem like my own issue and I'm sure people will be out there who'll say "who cares? Just play the game." but for me, I hate games like Football Manager where a new version comes out absolutely every year, you can't keep playing your game and the game has many new updates. To me, what's the point of investing all your time in a game and a team for there to be a new updated version the year after where you have to start all over again? Sure, you can keep your old version, but why would you when the universe has been reset and it's a more updated module? Case in point, my problem with WMMA. A massive one, actually. For some reason, I've tried for a very long time to try and work a way out how to play the default databases and I honestly just can't find it. With TEW, I found a fair method. As there's quite a few editions of the Cornellverse, I decided to focus on a set promotion every year and then update the data for the next database, and keep going like that. However, it's much more complicated to do that with WMMA and frankly, impossible considering that WMMA is set in a year where should there be a WMMA5, there's no telling when it'll be set. For instance, it could be set in 2015 and have so many introduced characters, that playing the WMMA4 database up until the WMMA5 one comes into play would be impossible due to so many expanded and new characters existing in 5 that haven't been introduced in the previous version because of the time difference. It's also very hard to even play WMMA4's database at all and trying to pinpoint when the next database could hit. Could be a year, could be three years, could be a prequel. TEW doesn't have that fault and in my opinion, that's a real knock on WMMA. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but I never agreed with how it was separated from the Cornellverse completely and the original 2 editions of the game were simply recreated with 3 and rewriting the history. TEW has a very understandable and enjoyable database that is rich with characters and backstory. ANYWAY, I'm at the point now where I'd really like any sort of suggestions or ideas outside of "stop being a massively OCD freak and just play the game." Perhaps even some ideas from Adam Ryland himself as to where it's likely the WMMA games and database will go, if there are any plans at all. Thanks for reading, I love the games. I'm just struggling to invest time in a game where no matter what I do or how I book it, come WMMA5, the entire game was essentially for nothing and the database has restarted a few years later. You can't import your history and go from there, at least not with how WMMA is set much earlier than TEW. Please help me. ;-; I really want to play this game and I've worked out how to play the Modern Warriors and create my own Fresh Universe and keep adding to it, but with the default database? I have absolutely no clue how I could even play it without trying to completely forget the next update, which is impossible to do when I feel so ocd when it comes to simulation games and how worthless your progress ultimately seems. And I really wouldn't care if the default database didn't have such fantastic characters, effort and renders put into it.
w4lru5
I feel you. I have a five-year-long SIGMA game in WMMA3 that I'm really attached to.

It'll be a while before anything new comes out. Adam's not working on any new projects right now, and when he is, my guess is that we see a new TEW first. So you've probably got a couple of years (a year and a half at least) with WMMA4. Not sure if that helps, but...
Blackman
I basically have the same fear, for playing a game knowing that there will be a better version somewhere along the road. The thing is you gotta make the leap and just play the damn thing. I was waiting for a while to start a another playthrough for Crusader Kings II, but the game keeps on releasing updates and patches. Sometimes you look at the actual notes and say: is this it? I recollect playing the game when it was a few months after release and had great fun with it, even though there's a plethora of DLC now. Essentially, not that much has changed. For WMMA4: the game is basically done and without real errors. I honestly don't see why you would be waiting, as it might take years for the next version. The game progresses quicker than TEW. The thing is, however, for those with little time to spare, that it will take a while to get acquainted with the gameworld. It's something you have to invest time in. The better you know the gameworld, the more fun it is, whether you use real world mods or the default universe. Just wanted to throw out there that CK2 is amazing. That's all.
Donners
I think a way to deal with the concern you describe is to sidestep the default game world to an extent. Set up your own company, perhaps in a region which isn't well-populated with other companies or fighters. A women-focused company in Asia is ideal. That takes you out of the narrative - you're dealing with a fresh company and a lot of fighters you'd probably never notice in a normal game. That way, a changed database down the track won't really throw you, because you won't have been as attached to the fighters or companies.
