USPW: Where Time Stands Still ('14)

Recommended Posts

For a couple of years now, I have been an avid reader of the diaries here on the GDS forums. A long time player of Adam Ryland's Total Extremely Wrestling myself, I thoroughly enjoyed other people's renditions of the WWE, TNA and ROH come to life on my laptop. Plus, by reading all of your diaries, I feel that I have gained a ton of insight on the finer aspects of the game, the ways in which to book individuals, and the types of stories that I, personally, enjoy telling.

It was Eisen-verse's
diary that originally got me into the C-Verse. For a long time, I solely played modded versions of the game--like most of us, I enjoy the thrill of getting to change reality to fit my vision. Yet the writer in me (I majored in English in undergrad) saw the potential that the C-Verse yielded: a world where personalities are loosely defined, and the potential for creativity is plentiful. An attempt at my own SWF was a flop, as I struggled to deal with the massive roster of SWF, and simply saw myself replaying Eisen-verse's stories in the game.

So, I sought to set out on my own and find a C-Verse promotion that fit my style.
and angeldelayette's
helped draw in some inspiration for me, and made me realize that if I was ever going to do a diary attempt it would be with USPW.

Stuck in a moment in time, everything about United States Pro Wrestling seemingly remains the same while everything around it changes. What is the most interesting aspect of the company, though, is the significant role Sam Strong maintains in pushing the company towards affluence. After all, it was not until Strong took over (as we all know) in '06 that USPW really began to take off.

However, Strong isn't getting any younger--and neither is the USPW roster. At the start of 2014, USPW's average roster age is around 37 years old. This has been a not so subtle secret since TEW 2013 was released, and at some point Strong's Land of the Giants is going to crumble under a combination of sore knees and bad backs. Yet the company's appeal is rooted in nostalgia: thus leading to tension between the need for new blood and fresh faces, while simultaneously remaining true to the company's product.

With the roster practically unchanged from 2013 to 2014, just how will Sam Strong and USPW manage to maintain their position as the third largest promotion in the United States as it fights off father time? And, just who will be the leader to take USPW into the future?

Good luck on staying at National. You'll need it with USPW.

If you do fall to Cult in Month 1 (sometimes, it is inevitable if TCW/SWF both have B+ PPVs) see it as an opportunity: it takes the urgency off playing "to the game/system" of USPW and lets you grow your own stars, so when USPW returns to National six months down the line it will be a much stronger promotion.

For this reason, I would caution against making an alliance with TCW/NOTBPW/CGC, etc. and bringing in outside stars (as many have done if they fall to Cult or before they do). During a "cooling down" period, there isn't "an urgency" for good grades -- you can't move up to National for the entirety of the period (Six Months). I'd use the period to build your own stars and try to plug in guys who can "hold the main event mantel" per se.

I'll definitely read this -- USPro is one of my favorite promotions.

The Sneer Corporation

©

The Sneer Corporation is one of the prestigious factions in professional wrestling history, following Shane Sneer wherever he goes. Those who have listened to the wisdom of Sneer, though, have managed to find themselves reach incredible heights. After Sneer and company lost the The Great War in 2013, however, the faction have fallen on hard times. Those throughout USPW no longer are instilled with fear by Sneer and his lackeys. Will Sneer and the gang manage to revitalize their once imposing organization? Or, will they fall to the wayside like some many groups before them?

Thanks for the advice. I definitely agree with what you are saying, with USPW the objective isn't to look at what you can do to in the short run in order to compete with TCW and SWF. In order for the company to continue to compete long term, building up young talent (who can actually wrestle) is the most important part of playing USPW--even if it means dropping to Cult for six months.

Also, I wanted to note that the bulk of my set-up is complete. Therefore, with that in mind, you should be expecting the first card for USPW American Wrestling being posted later today, and some supplemental posts coming shortly after that.

It's nice to get the shout-out. Thank you very much for that. Looking forward to seeing what you do with your incarnation of USPW. That being said, here's some predictions...

"American Everyman" Freddie Datsun vs. Andre Jones

The American Everyman comes close but falls just short of the Freak.

Java with Tribal Warrior vs. © Danny Rushmore with Shane Sneer

[uSPW Television Championship Title Match]

Another win for Danny Rushmore as he moves forward and possibly up the rankings.

Tiffany Jade vs. Alicia Strong

[Non-Title Match]

Daddy's Little Girl scores the squash victory.

Enygma vs. Peter Valentine with Casey Valentine

This is a tough one to call. I am betting on Enygma, though it might be via disqualification or count out.

Main Event

"The Hardcore American" Chris Caulfield vs. "The Demon Tyson Baine

[Non-Title Match]

A wild, uncontrollable brawl begins between these two stiff wrestlers. The referee has no choice but to call the match off.

Shane Sneer Out as Head Booker in USPW

Might Shane Sneer's days booking United States Pro Wrestling be numbered? Sources hold that, late last night, Sam Strong and executives from Sporting America met at the USPW headquarters regarding the long-time USPW employee's position within the company. Despite a strong showing in 2013, Strong and company believe now is the tiem to begin the transition from the old-school Sneer to a fresh face.

Sneer, manager of USPW's infamous Sneer Corporation, has overseen USPW's rise to national prominence that ultimately saw the infiltration of the ratings stranglehold the "Big Two" have had in the United States for some time now. However, Sneer is now in his fifties and the company's main event scene continues to grow older with him. It has been reported that Sporting America executives feel that new blood on the booking team will allow the youth in the ring to prosper in the land of the unstoppable, albeit aging, giants.

Just who will Sam Strong choose to fill the role Shane Sneer leaves open, though? One source has stated that Peter Valentine or Giant Redwood, long-time friends of Strong, are logical candidates for the role among those in house. Additionally, some within USPW are vouching for Chris Caulfield, a veteran of the company and an individual that Strong has long admired, as a dark horse candidate, as those within the promotion seem Caulfield as an important leader in the locker room.

However, one source close to Sporting America officials have suggested that the network is forcing Strong to look outside of the promotion in order to fill the vacancy. While Sporting America feels that Strong and Sneer have done impressive work with the roster USPW has assembled, the network feels that in order for the promotion to continue to be marketable it needs new blood instilled in order to push Strong into thinking outside the box.

Needless to say, one can only imagine the impact that Shane Sneer's departure from the booking team will have on USPW going forward. Be sure to leave
your
thoughts below!

Sam Stong Pegs Referee To Lead USPW

The future of United States Pro Wrestling is much clearer after Sam Strong's announcement early Wednesday morning. In front of a small gathering of reporters, Strong announced that Robbie Sanchez, a long-time USPW referee, will be named the new head booker for the company after tonight's airing of
USPW American Wrestling
.

Sanchez's appointment to the position come as a surprise, as many anticipated the Strong would declare a more prominent figurehead to fill the important role. However, according Strong, he and the Sporting America executives were impressed with "the professionalism, work ethnic and creativity that Sanchez possesses."

In his official statement, Strong said this about the decision:

"Robbie Sanchez is a man who has busted his butt to get where he is in this business. While there may have been individuals who I've been a little closer with over the years, the respect that Robbie commands within that locker room, and the unique ideas he has about USPW were an important factors in our decision. If you are going to get rid of a mind like Shane Sneer, you want it to be a guy who can fill the tremendous void being left behind. While Robbie might take some time to do that, his mind for the business will be a good head start for him."

Strong failed to comment on the impact Sporting America had on the decision, after rumors that the network was being Sneer's ouster. One source has suggested, however, that Strong's initial recommendation of Peter Valentine was met with threats from the network to pull support for the promotion. According to sources within the network, Sporting America wanted a "neutral figure" who would not be overly influenced by the more prominent locker room politicians that they feel are currently employed by USPW.

With a quick transition, it looks as if fans will not have to wait long to see just what this new face has in store of USPW as the Sanchez era officially begins next Wednesday on
USPW American Wrestling
.

USPW To Reload Roster; New Additions To Come

It appears as though Robbie Sanchez has not taken long to make his imprint on United States Pro Wrestling.

Rumblings from within the company have suggested that Sanchez, only a few hours removed from his promotion within the company, was seen on the phone with various independent talents, and will not be at tonight's
USPW American Wrestling
tapings as well. While not shocking that a new voice in USPW's booking practices has decided that the older roster needs a little revitalization. The question remains, however: who is Sanchez looking to sign?

The promotion has long been known for its signing of over-sized wrestlers (with minimal in-ring ability). Many of those names have already been pre-established, with USPW's biggest homegrown talent being two-time USPW World Champion Nicky Champion. Though this practice has been subject to heavy criticism within the internet wrestling community, it is a practice that has managed to serve Strong and company well during USPW's rise in the ratings.

With Sam Strong likely still overseeing each decision Sanchez makes, it is unlikely that the new head of the booking team will be able to deviate too much from this practice. One source close to Sanchez has told us that Sanchez's desire to recruit what Strong calls "lightweights" into the company was greeted with initial skepticism, with the owner declaring that there will absolutely be no "spot monkeys" in USPW. Though Sanchez doesn't seem willing to push his luck just yet, it has been reported that the referee has long felt that a premium should be paid on youth and in-ring ability in order to help boost the company's matches.

No names have currently been leaked to us here at The Wrestling Wire, which has us wondering: Just who do YOU think Sanchez and Strong will bring in to bolster the USPW roster?

NOTE:

I am at work for the rest of the day, and thus won't get the show up until afterwards most likely. With that said, it is almost done and I am pretty excited with it (although, maybe not so much the grades). As this is my first diary, and my return to creative writing, I want to make it clear that I am open to any and all criticism. As far as I see it, this diary is not only supposed to be fun for both me and you, but also a way for me to scratch my creative itch. So any feedback would be much appreciated.

Additionally, any feedback on to what makes a worthwhile prize for the month of January would be much appreciated. I've never paid too much attention to prediction contests previously, but I also want this diary to actively engage with its audience (as we will see later down the line). So any ideas as to what would serve as a good incentive would be helpful.

Hell's Bouncer and Bulldozer Brandon Smith will be on the immediate radar. Brandon has a "American Patriot" alternate he used to work under for MAW.

Billy Russell starts over in Puerto Rico (C+) enough to main event in a Puerto Rico PPV Event. He has good psychology and is a plus hand. You could do a "hometown challenge" angle with Russell in PR.

Titan is a solid MAW alum who works with Freedom Championship Wresting in Puerto Rico. He has good performance stats and has tag experience with Atlas as "The Gods of Thunder". The two could be a younger version of the "Towers of Power" team -- Muscles has more value as a babyface and Rushmore isn't that good.

I'd recommend The Cali Dragons highly. The two are great additions to the tag team ranks and a split/feud is money with Perez re-debuting as Kill Switch.

Consider re-working the Announce Team. Danny Jillefski is fairly terrible for a Cult company. I'd recommend bringing in Rock Downpour and Ernie Tuner on PPA Contracts so they can build Announcer Experience with NYCW or Marv Earnest from MAW (on a PPA) and unemployed Duke Hazzard (the two start with Low experience). The "third wheel" should be Sam Strong (until he retires) in any case as he will bring up the overall score. In general, keep an eye on hires in the smaller feds, and possibly consider bringing in an announce team from a new federation.

As for the people to bring in I have a few suggestions.

I'd love to see you do something with The Silencer and Sgt. Bubba Lee West. They both really fit the product and there is n obvious pairing with Commissioner Doom.

Bulldozer Barndon Smith can be brought in as the Mased Patriot or just himself, fitting either way. Findlay O'Farraday is a good big worker that could fit.

I'd love to see someone push Remmy Skye. Usually even companies like USPW have one high flier.

Or you can do what I like to do and not hire anyone in USPW unless they are or were a star in a big company. USPW basically stole all of their stars from other companies.

No matter what you do, this diray has great presentation and has a lot of potential. I'll definitely follow it.

A few suggestions from me as I'll be reading. I play USPW almost exclusively.

My Always hires:

Hell's Bouncer - star power and menace. With a good to great destiny roll he could become THE monster for USPW's future.

The Cali Dragons - not reeeeaaally USPW 'style' guys, but you can't argue with the skills, James' Star power and Perez's Kill Switch character. I've gotten both men to main event status before.

Bulldozer Brandon Smith - In his American Patriot mask, at least at first, a heel turn into the bulldozer character can come later.

Steven Parker - you've got his girlfriend on staff, adding him is nothing but a plus in my book. Plus their backstage bonus will help with Peter and Redwood on hand.

Other hires:

Zoe Amis - has a Soviet character alt if you wish to make a stable out of the cold warriors tag team.

Roger Cage - someone who could go far in the company on charisma and star power alone.

I could list SEVERAL others I'm partial to and the reasons, but that'd be a long freakin' post. I'll stop here though. :-p

edit - I second the opinion of deep sixing Danny Jillefski as soon as you can. Keep an eye out for Announcers, you CAN do better than Danny.

Danny Jillefski:
It is a new year, and USPW is back for another slate of USPW American Wrestling on Sporting America!

Emily McQueen:
It’s 2014, and yet some things never change!

Danny Jillefski:
My name is Danny Jillefski, along with the lovely Emily McQueen and bye gosh do we have a great show in store for you tonight!

Emily McQueen:
Danny, tonight’s show is going to set the tone for this company! Hopefully, with Tyson Baine as our champion, USPW begins to see some real progress!

[American Wrestling opens up backstage, with Brock Cornish standing by with the USPW National Champion Andre Jones. A sly smirk is spread across the face of Jones, whose title belt is draped over his shoulder. Dressed in his ring gear, Cornish smiles before turning towards the champion.]

[brock Cornish]:
Hello there ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to USPW’s American Wrestling. I have alongside me the reigning USPW National Champion Andre Jones.

[Jones forces Cornish to pause, as he thrusts himself forward and waves to the fans at home in a sarcastic manner.]

[brock Cornish]:
Now Andre, in 2013 you managed to claim gold for the second time in your USPW career. Where do you think 2014 will be taking you?

[Another slick smirk wiggles its away across Jones’s face. He shuts his eyes, raises his head, and points to the rafters before letting out a light chuckle. His eyes then open, his head turning to face Brock Cornish.]

[Andre Jones]:
Brock muh boy, 2014 is going to see this man rise all the way to the tippy top. You see, when I won this title, I knew my destiny had not been fulfilled.
[Pause.]
I knew that this belt was just the beginning.
[Pause.]
Oh no my friend, Andre Jones is destined for things far greater than the USPW National Championship. And tonight, when I get in the ring with good ol’ [Freddie] Datsun, you drunk hillbillies here at the Louisiana Auditorium and all of you at home are going to see just what Andre Jones means.
[Pause.]
‘Cause I am the best. I am the brightest. And there ain’t nobody who is going to be able to get in muh way.

[Jones lets out another light chuckle before walking off screen, heading towards tonight’s opening match with Freddie Datsun.]

Emily McQueen:
It's about time Andre Jones takes that leap. I've had my money on that man winning the USPW World Championship for years. His talent seems limitless.

Danny Jillefski:
Jones is a punk, Emily, and you know it. Freddie Datsun isn't a slouch, and you have to imagine Datsun wants to position himself for a title shot.

  • Freddie Datsun comes out of the gate swinging after the bell rings, locking into the reigning USPW National Champion.

  • Andre Jones is feeling it tonight, however, and after initially taking in some offense from Datsun, the champion begins to take over.

  • Datsun attempts to mound a comeback, surprising Jones with a schoolboy roll-up to try and steal a victory.

  • In the end, Jones’ athleticism is too much for the aging wrestler, as the champion nails Datsun with his signature Blast From The Past before getting the three count.

It looks like Andre Jones’s plan on rising up the ranks is off to a good start here tonight, as he picks up the seemingly easy victory over Freddie Datsun.

Emily McQueen:
Of course Jones made it look easy; he’s one of USPW’s best! You heard what he said, he planned on taking care of business tonight and he did just that.

[back in the locker room area, Shane Sneer can be shown standing in front of The Sneer Corporation wearing his finest suit: a light grey polyester jacket and pants on top of a burnt orange dress shirt, accompanied with a solid black tie and black shoes.]

[Jumbo Jackson, Mick Muscles, Danny Rushmore and Atlas look squished together like sardines as they crowd around their leader due to the sheer size of Sneer’s stable of powerhouses. Nobody complains, though, as each man knows that their once mighty faction has fallen on hard times.]

[shane Sneer]:
Gentlemen, a new year is upon us.
[Pause.]
And with a new year, comes new opportunities.
[Pause.]
Now I know 2013 saw us take a few blows to our prestige; and I know we don’t carry quite the same amount of clout we once did, but look around.
[Pause, as each man in the group takes a moment to eye his comrades.]
You all are among some of the baddest wrestlers in USPW. With the sheer power within this room, nothing will be able to stop us. And we are going to show that, tonight.
[Pause, so Sneer can turn directly to Rushmore.]
Danny, there is a lot riding on tonight’s match. If we want to be taken seriously, we need you to step up to the plate and send Java home in a body bag. You, and I, have the “muscle” to make sure that happens.
[Pause, this time referring to the group as a whole.]
And after Rushmore sends Java home a black an’ blue mess, we’re going to set our sights on anybody else who thinks messy with The Sneer Corporation is a good idea.
[Pause.]
And if any of you boys disappoint, I’ll make sure you know it.

[With a nasty snarl, Shane Sneer tosses his arm violently towards the door. As he men disperse, we are left with the shot of a frustrated Shane Sneer eying his “talent” suspiciously.]

Grade:

Danny Jillefski:
Sneer was right when he said that 2013 was a rough one for The Sneer Corporation, and you can tell by the way he was eying his men that he expects that to shape up quickly.

Emily McQueen:
With the amount of size and power Sneer has at his disposal, don’t be surprised if The Sneer Corporation is quick to regain its seat at the throne here in USPW.

[The camera shifts backstage once more, as a couple of individuals are seen running off-screen—the only image being bits of their legs as they run. The focus returns to what’s left, in a bruised and batter heap, on the concrete floor: Raven Robinson. Soon afterwards, Alicia Strong walks by only to see her friend and ally in this disorienting state and can be seen calling for help despite no audio being projected. Strong rushes over to Robinson, falling to her knees and elevating Robinson’s head as she waits for help to arrive.]

Danny Jillefski:
What just happened to Raven Robinson?! And who were those mystery individuals running away from the scene of the crime?!

Emily McQueen:
Alicia Strong and Raven Robinson have made a lot of enemies as of late, Danny. I am not too surprised that it came back to bite one of them in the rear.

Danny Jillefski:
But to leave Raven unconscious on the floor like that Emily! That’s unspeakable!

Emily McQueen:
Perhaps, but I think what’s more important is what shape this has Alicia Strong in tonight. She’s in action with Tiffany Jade later, and you know this is going to be weighing on her mind.

Tribal Warrior and Shane Sneer

  • The first few minutes of this match were a back-and-forth contest where both wrestlers exhibited their arsenal of power maneuvers.

  • As time progressed, though, Java began to take over; and at one point he gets a two-count on Rushmore before Sneer pulled the referee out of the ring.

  • In response Tribal Warrior chases Sneer away from ringside, leaving both men without assistance.

  • Rushmore momentarily recovers, striking Java with a big left hook in order to regain some momentum.

  • However, it’s not enough. The tag team legend strikes Rushmore with a violent headbutt, sending Rushmore back staggering.

  • Just as Java is about to strike again, The Cold Warriors entrance theme projects throughout the arena.

  • Out comes Petr Novak, who captures all of Java’s attention. For several moments, the former foes stare each other down.

  • This gives Rushmore the chance to recover, sneaking up behind Java and landing a low blow before pinning the challenger with a roll-up for the three count.

[After the match, Krusher Karloff rushes in from out of nowhere and attacks Java from behind with a clubbing elbow to the back of Java’s head. Danny Rushmore can be seen back pedaling up the entrance ramp with Shane Sneer, the former clutching onto the USPW Television Championship belt. Petr Novak bolts past them from the entrance ramp to join in. Together the two plant Java with the Iron Curtain, leaving the tag team legend in sprawled out on the canvas. The Cold Warriors celebrate over their downtrodden foe until Tribal Warrior sprints out in the aid of his tag team partner. Karloff and Novak back off at this point, sliding out of the ring as quickly as possible before circling around the ring and moving up the ramp as Warrior tends to a wounded Java. As he checks on his partner, he stares down the tag team champions with a snarl across his face.]

What in the world do The Cold Warriors want with Savage Fury?!

Emily McQueen:
As our tag team champions, whenever Karloff and Novak wish to impose their will on somebody, they are more than free to do so.

Danny Jillefski:
Well they cost Java the USPW Television Championship, and you know he and Tribal Warrior are not going to aren’t going to let that rest without taking action.

Emily McQueen:
After what we just saw, I don’t think anything those two animals do will make any difference.

[sam Strong and Nicky Champion can be seen backstage in Strong’s office, with Strong behind his desk while Nicky sits on the couch. Strong is dressed in a black suit and tie with a white shirt to accompany. Champion, who is out of action tonight, is wearing jeans and a bright red USPW T-shirt with the old school USPW logo on it.]

[Champion seems preoccupied, a fact that Strong is clearly aware of as he sneaks up from behind and wraps a reassuring arm the former world champion. Signs of 2013’s brutalities are apparent on Champion still, all these months later, as faint scars from when Tyson Baine tossed the fire ball at him are visible.]

[sam Strong]:
You know Nicky, at some point you are going to need to move on from 2013.
[Pause.]
Yeah, Tyson Baine bested you for the world title, but you are still young kid. You have a whole career ahead of you.

[Despite Strong’s attempts at being reassuring, it seems as if his words fall on deaf ears. Champion merely shakes off USPW’s owner and gets up. He begins to pace back-and-forth, though it looks as if Strong’s office is too small for him. Strong looks onward, his eyes following and his leg shakes aggressively in its seated position.]

[Finally Champion stops, and squares up with the living legend and the man he considers his mentor. For several moments he is silent, as he faces begins to grow red and veins begin bulge through his forehead.]

[Nicky Champion]:
You don’t get it Mr. Strong; I didn’t just have a miserable 2013—Tyson Baine made my life a livin’ hell! There were nights when I would lie in my hospital bed, a bed that I was only in because Baine put me there, and wonder if I was ever going to see a wrestling ring again.
[Pause.]
And now, for the last three months, I have had to watch that devilish oaf walk around USPW, the company you and I both love with all of our hearts, with the world championship over his shoulder.
[Pause.]
It makes me SICK.

[sam Strong tries to get up to console the irate Nicky Champion, but when Strong tries to touch him, Champion shakes him off once again.]

[Nicky Champion]:
For months I tried not to let it bother me.
[Pause.]
For months I tried to put on a smiling face, show up to work each Wednesday, and let everybody know that Tyson Baine’s days as champion are numbered.
[Pause.]
But I keep failing, Sam. I keep failing, and now I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.

[Just as Champion seems like he’s about to lose it, in walks Tyson Baine.]

[The smug looking demon has the USPW World Championship draped over his shoulder, and before things can escalate Sam Strong quickly gets in between the two. Baine shakes his head side-to-side before letting loose a demonic cackle.]

[Tyson Baine]:
Alright Nicky? Seem a little tense. I could hear you bellowing on and on down the hallway.

[Champion remains silent, merely glaring a hole through the might visage of Tyson Baine. Strong is unamused, lowering his arms and getting in the face of his world champion.]

[sam Strong]:
Now look here Tyson, you might be the world champion but I am still the boss around here.
[Pause.]
That means, when your lugging your way around backstage, you need to knock before you enter this office—another sign of disrespect like that, and I’ll strip that shiny little belt of yours so fast you won’t even see me coming.
[Pause.]
Now before things escalate in here, I’m going to make an announcement: next week it’s going to be Tyson Baine vs. Nicky Champion…
[Pause, with Champion’s face lighting up.]
… In tag team action, with partners of their choosing.
[baine lets out another demonic cackle in response to the intense dejection washing across Champion’s face.]
And if Champion wins, Tyson, he gets ANOTHER chance at your world championship—at Stars, Stripes & Slams!

[Although not quite the decision Champion aspired for, it appears as if Strong’s announcement was enough to reinvigorate the young performer as he leaves Strong’s office with a smirk on his face. Baine, although clearly agitated, merely shrugs as he turns to prepare for his match tonight.]

Danny Jillefski:
What an announcement by Sam Strong! Tyson Baine and Nicky Champion in tag team action next week?! You know things are going to be intense once these two get in the ring.

Emily McQueen:
Yeah, yeah… and Baine will make mincemeat of Champion, just like he did in 2013.
[Pause.]
What I am more curious about is Nicky Champion’s mindset. The guy looked like he was going to bring out the waterworks in here, Danny.

Danny Jillefski:
It was definitely a side of Nicky Champion we haven’t seen before. After a tough 2013, one can only imagine what his mindset is like at this point.

[The familiar theme music of Alicia Strong projects through Louisiana Auditorium as the reigning USPW Womens Champion waltzes out from the back. Normally cheery and vibrant, Strong is clearly distraught from seeing her friend laying passed out on the concrete floor earlier tonight.]

[After she makes her way to the ring, she gestures to the ring attendant for a microphone. She cues for the music to cut, and for a moment looks as if she is holding back tears.]

[Alicia Strong]:
Tonight, we saw the work of a couple of cowards.
[Pause.]
Ladies who, in their quest to make a name for themselves here in USPW, have resorted to ambushing my dear friend Raven Robinson while she’s alone.
[Pause.]
Well you know what ladies, tonight I vow to avenge my fallen friend. To see her splayed out like that on the concrete floor… it was heartbreaking. And while I know she should make a full recovery, I can only imagine the amount of pain she is experiencing right now.
[Pause, her sadness now having faded away only to bring about a fiery intensity.]
So, to whoever did this disgusting act, if you think this was going to break my spirit… think again.

[Krusher Karloff doesn’t even acknowledge Cornish’s existence after asking the question, a look of distain showing across his face. This gives Petr Novak the room to step up to the plate, disgust smeared on his mug as he swipes the microphone from Cornish.]

Petr Novak]:

[shaner]:
In a hurry I see. Well, I won’t take too much of your time, I just wanted to swing by and see if I could get a word with ya at some point.
[Pause.]
You see, my men and I are in need of some momentum at the moment. Times are tough for me and my boys, and we know that the one man who can help us get some opportunities around here big bad Commissioner Doom.
[Pause, yet Doom continues to be unresponsive.]
‘Cause my boys and I, we understand that ya don’t get nearly enough credit for the work ya do Doom. We want to change that, and we think an arrangement between The Sneer Corporation and yaself could be mutually beneficial.
[Pause.]
The best part about our little plan, Doom, is that it’ll require virtually nothing of ya… all ya need to do is just give me one free minute of yours.

[Doom stops, which causes Sneer to flash yet another devilish smirk. At this point the two men are outside of Doom’s office, yet Doom doesn’t seem quite as eager for the slimy figure before him to depart just yet.]

[Commissioner Doom]:
And what exactly do you think you’ll be able to accomplish with my help, Shane?
[Pause.]
You and I both know we each have a boss to deal with.

Danny Jillefski:
Well I’ll tell you this much, you have to figure Sam Strong isn’t going to like Sneer getting cozy with Doom.

Emily McQueen:
Why wouldn’t he? Two employees, working together for a common goal; that sounds like something any reasonable owner would love! Plus, who cares what Strong thinks—that ol’ geezer is losing his mind after what he’s got our champion going through next week.

He is moments away from having to head down to face off against Chris Caulfield in the first main event of 2014, but when USPW’s champion wishes to speak he gets his moment.]

[Tyson Baine]:
Darkness has taken over USPW.
[Pause.]
Once thought of the year in which this company could shine, an evil has washed over Sam Strong’s empire and chaos has risen.
[Pause.]
We’ve seen, tonight alone, the mangled bodies of your “heroes” prominently on display.
[baine lets out a hearty chuckle.]
Yet nowhere else is darkness more evident than in the “golden boy” of USPW: Nicky “Hawkeye” Champion.
[baine pauses, taking a moment to unleash a smug smirk.]
It might come as a shock to you all, but the Nicky Champion we all saw earlier displayed the classic signs of evil that this demon has come to know and love. And I… I have a theory as to why. I think Champion is weak. I think, in 2013, I broke Champion. The pressure of having to not only represent this company as its world champion, but also carry it into a new generation… well, it was just too much for our beloved hero.
[Pause.] Tonight, we saw a sign of things to come. And after I toss aside the washed up carcass of Caulfield tonight, we’ll only see more of Champion’s unraveling.
[Pause, only this time spanning several seconds. In the intermediary, Baine’s piercing red eyes almost seem to intensify.]
We’ve entered dark times, USPW. And things… well, things are only getting to get worse from here.

Emily McQueen:
Every week, Tyson Baine continues to show us what greatness is...

Danny Jillefski:
If only he did have to be so twisted about it. Hell, Chris Caulfield probably has a concussion!

[baine revels in the hatred this Louisiana crowd is giving him, as he tosses his arms up in victory. The ring attendant comes over to him with the USPW World Championship in hand, and without looking Baine snatches the belt. With one arm he hoists the belt into the air, his maniacal laughter somehow penetrating the sound barrier the crowd’s booing has put up around him. As he turns to leave the ring, out comes Nicky Champion—face bright red and fists flying—with clubbing blows to the back and neck of the world champion. Shocked, “The Demon” crumbles to one knee before dropping down to two as Champion’s assault continues.]

[Dazed, Baine is helpless to a running shoulder block by Champion that causes the world champion to fall to the mat. Champion tosses both arms up in the air, to cheers from the crowd, before quickly pointing to the corner of the ring closest to Tyson Baine. The crowd continues to go wild, a chant of “Do it!” echoing throughout the arena. Champion rushes over to the corner and climbs to the second rope. He shakes the top rope, soliciting more cheers from the crowd, before climbing to the top turnbuckle. Slowly the challenge begins to rise, the Louisiana Auditorium reaching thunderous levels of sound as “Hawkeye” prepares to take flight. Meanwhile, on the canvas, Tyson Baine lies motionless as the shock of Champion’s surprise attack has yet to subside.]

[Through the air Nick Champion soars, landing a flying legdrop on the world champion much to the delight of the spectators. Champion rises afterwards, tossing both arms in the air. He sees the USPW World Championship belt on the ground and retrieves it, hoisting it in a similar fashion to Tyson Baine. A twisted smirk suddenly flashes across the face of Champion as he gets his momentary comeuppance of the man who tortured him for a full year. Our final image is that smile of Champion’s, as USPW American Wrestling goes off of the air.]

Danny Jillefski:
I can't believe what I just saw! Nicky Champion, USPW's hero, just went ballistic on the USPW World Champion! CHAMPION HAS SNAPPED!

Emily McQueen:
Perhaps Tyson Baine is right, Danny, perhaps dark days are ahead for USPW! As much as I loath Champion, you know when he acts like this... well, something's up.

Solid show. It seems you have the feel of USPW and I'm looking forwards to more. I'd suggest reading the show over once or twice because their was some noticeable spelling errors, along with you forgetting to put the PPV name at the end of Sam Strong's promo and some of Enygma's match seemed to get mixed up with the main event for some reason. Overall, you do what is important fantastically and you have a great format so I'll definitely keep reading.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I'll definitely make sure to do a more thorough job for Episode #2 when it comes to the editing aspect. As for specific instances you pointed out, thanks for letting me know (I quickly fixed them).

I also appreciate the compliments. Hopefully where we are heading, with the additions to the roster, we continue to maintain that classic USPW feel while also evolving the product. I will have to say this, some of the in-game happenings have really changed the initial direction of the story we were heading towards.

I liked the first show, so I'll hop on board for show number two:

Andre Jones vs. Open Challenger

Kind of a coin-flip given that we don't know who the challenger will be.

Savage Fury vs. The Cold Warriors

Savage Fury get a degree of revenge following the sneak attack.

Belle Bryden vs. Gorgon

Gorgon's the monster of your women's division, so you want to keep her strong.

James Justice vs. Mick Muscles with Shane Sneer

I think Shane has something up his sleave here.

Nicky "Hawkeye" Champion and Enygma vs. "The Demon Tyson Baine and "The Jurassic Power" T-Rex

Given the Stips it really only makes sense for Champion to win here, even if Enygma may not like Champion's new attitude.

An Era Ends in USPW: Strong Retires

Next Wednesday’s episode of
USPW American Wrestling
was supposed to see the beginning of a new era in USPW booking: the Sanchez Era. However, due to a recent announcement from USPW President and Owner Sam Strong, many will be instead thinking about USPW’s future in a different way: who will run North America’s third-largest wrestling promotion?

Early Thursday morning, the 67-year-old Sam Strong announced that he has decided to leave the world of professional wrestling after 50 years. Strong stated that a major part of this decision was the, “politics that have overtaken this business." Some have speculated that Strong is referring to the influence Sporting America was rumored to have as of late. Others merely think that Strong, once a great politician in the locker room himself, has grown weary of the day-to-day grind of keeping egos in check.

Either way, effective February 1st, 2014, a new man will be taking the reins in USPW. Speculation has run rampant within the internet wrestling community immediately after the announcement about whom may be looking to replace Sam Strong. Strong himself has been silent on the matter, though some have stated that his daughter Alicia Strong is likely to be a personal favorite of his—although many critics have blasted that idea, citing the younger Strong as being far too young.

Danny Jillefski also seems like a logical fit to resume the role of head of USPW. Many fans have forgotten that Jillefski, before becoming the voice of USPW, was once the founder of the company. Having him reclaim his position at the top would only seem natural, as he has been with USPW since its inception.

Once more, Peter Valentine’s name has also been chirped around the rumor mill as the next owner of USPW. A long-time friend of Sam Strong, many feel that Strong would love to stick it to Sporting America before heading for retirement. However, those close to Sporting America officials remain steadfast that they will pull all support for the promotion if USPW opts to have Valentine take charge.

What makes this situation most interesting is the impact a new owner might have on the recently promoted Robbie Sanchez. One would presume that, whoever does take over USPW, might want to have his or her own booker in place moving forward. This could be an indication that the Sanchez Era only lasts through the end of January—a crushing blow for the long-time referee’s career on the creative side.

Another interesting note regarding Strong’s retirement is the impact this will have on the USPW roster. For years Strong has favored large, traditional faces of professional wrestling to fill out the card. In fact, Strong has dictated to Sanchez that he won’t employee any more “lightweights” on his roster so long as he’s in charge. However, with new management, perhaps this mandate will be relaxed—thus giving Sanchez the freedom to poach some of the more promising, albeit smaller, talent.

Only time will tell what impact Strong’s retirement will have on United States Pro Wrestling. One thing is for sure, though: the USPW we have come to know and love will be taking on an entirely new face with all the changes yet ahead.
