Purpose

Today, I decided to launch up TEW 2013 and start recording for my Youtube channel, rather than just waste hours and hours doing nothing but playing TEW, I might try to put some good use to my time and create some content that others might enjoy. I've noticed some growth in the TEW community lately and there's a lot of people out there sharing tips and telling stories, which is awesome! I'd like to throw my hat into the ring, although what I will say is that most of my knowledge comes from people like Phantom Stranger, on his thread on another forum.

Aside from sharing my own knowledge, it might also be cool to get some knowledge from anyone who wants to give it. While on the Youtube version of this series I'll mainly be trying to teach and explain, on this version I'll be asking for feedback wherever readers can give it. Of course, I will also be accepting predictions because I love those type of things just as much as anyone. :)

My Character

I'm playing as Mean Jean Cattley, an aging vetrean who has on numerous occasions been called the "rock" of his promotion. My age really isn't that evident, at the age of 35, but I am usually surrounded by a lot of young, fresh and exciting talent, which hurts the perception of my work. I'm unspectacular worker, and I recognize that, so there won't be any huge push on my horizon, but there's a chance I could get one last run at the top jobbing to the main event talent. Overall though, I'll probably just be a gatekeeper training some of the younger talent.

The Promotion

Mid Atlantic Wrestling has a storied reputation as a training promotion, after all, that was the purpose of the promotion when Rip Chord set it up in 2005. However, if I decide to stay here for any longer than a few years, then I'll be looking to grow the promotion a little bit and try not to get my better talent pouched by one of the big three. TCW would be the most sensible scouter of my talent, but in my experience USPW are usually the biggest threat, probably because they get scared of us usurping their position. What I want to do is put on a great show, and pull in the ticket sales in the Mid Atlantic area, while expanding very slowly to the surrounding areas and looking perhaps to get on local TV.

MAW as a show tends to look more towards the work rate and the skill of the competitors. They are not completely an American Puro promotion though, with room for personality and angles to be put in there, but the feel is very cult, very underground, very old school. I lowered the expected match times to allow for a wider array of talent to be showcased on each 1hr30min-2hr show. After some tinkering, here are the product settings:

http://oi61.tinypic.com/f0rm2d.jpg

MAW run 12 shows a year, that's 1 show a month, and most are on around the same standing, the only exceptions to that are The Rip Chord Invitational in January, Where it all Begins Again in October and The Night of the Champions in December, all of which are 2hrs and the January show includes a tournament. There is also a tag tournament in July called the Sam Keith Classic.

There are three championships: a singles title for Main Eventers that is currently held by Cameron Vessay, one of the best prospects in the company, but similarly is not likely to run off to Japan and miss a few shows; a singles title for midcarders currently held by resident jackass Hollywood Bret Starr; and finally a tag title currently held by middle of the road Dynamite Express, who will soon be replaced by incoming hotshot tag teams.

The Roster

Top 5

http://oi62.tinypic.com/357iuyc.jpg

1. Cameron Vessay

By far the hottest prospect in the company. At 25, his best years are ahead of him and he has all the talent to carry a number of main events. He isn't going to set the world on fire, at least not without a world class opponent, but like I said earlier, he isn't likely to go running off to do a tour with Burning Hammer like some of the indy darlings we'll be bringing in. He is a bonafide Heel, there's no doubt about that, his cocky attitude is very conducive to that. Cameron is our current world champion and there's no signs of that changing any time soon.

http://oi57.tinypic.com/j73rzd.jpg

2. Findlay O'Farraday

I often give Findlay a hard time, because he is by no means a fantastic worker. But at 27 he's by no means old despite being a veteran compared to most of the roster, and his 80 menace means that he can keep himself over no matter what happens in the ring. So while I doubt we'll see him taking the title off of Cameron, I could definitely see a run at the top from the big man. He's also a babyface, for what it's worth, and so he's going to come around in the Main Event fairly frequently.

http://oi60.tinypic.com/125qsky.jpg

3. Hollywood Bret Starr

This guy. I'm not sure how long ol' Bret is going to last here in MAW, I've got to be honest. He just consistently pisses me off. He's a fantastic worker, there is no doubt about that at all, and he puts on solid to great matches consistently with pretty much the entire roster. But he won't job to anybody lower down on the card than him without putting up a fuss, will constantly start fights with workers, road agents, fans, whoever. He could get an audience of 1 to boo the shit out of him, and that's where his value comes from. Starr is our American Champion, which is somehow lower than the Mid Atlantic Champion. He'll be staying in the realms of that title until a babyface wins the main title.

http://oi62.tinypic.com/oa9mhf.jpg

4. Mean Jean Cattley

Moi. As said above, I'm over enough and my skills are good enough that for the most part I'll be hanging around the main event for a decent length of time. The only thing that's gonna push me out of it is the heel-heavy nature of it. I'll end up dropping down the card if we don't get any serious babyface challengers at the top because I won't be putting on a useless feud between myself and Findlay because nobody benefits from that.

http://i60.tinypic.com/200b8md_th.jpg

5. Sam Keith

Yea, I'm putting him in here, don't cross the boss. Sam Keith is our owner, Road Agent, Authority Figure. If he works as an Agent, he's going to give a bonus to every single match because he has 100 psychology. If he works as an on-screen character, then he's going to be pulling decent ratings almost every time he's on screen.

Signings

Finally, to quote Phantom Stranger, I'm going on a hiring spree:

1. The Ring Generals - Marv Statler and Dean Waldorf are the jewels of New York. A pair of tough SOBs that are not afraid to take you to suplex city, [profanity removed.]. I like to call them a measuring stick tag team, because if a match involving them stinks, it's not their fault, and if a match involving them is awesome, that's also probably not entirely their doing.

2. The Cali Dragons - Frankie Perez and Mikey James have a ton of potential as singles dudes, but I'm building a tag team division here and they fit in very nicely. Plus I think they have a few weakness that they cover as a pair, but make no mistake, they could carry this promotion on their backs if they went solo, they're that good, will the Tag Titles go straight on them? Meby.

3. KC Glenn - Quite frankly one of the best workers on the planet, build correctly the dude can be a star for anyone. He's a southern dude with fantastic skills at the age of 21. We'll put him in the midcard for a few months and then see where he is.

4. El Mitico Jr - Bags of potential, give him time, give him time. He's costing me an owner goal against hiring Luchadores, so he better come good quick... but give him time...

5. Nigel Svensson - The Anti-Starr! Hopefully, they will counterbalance each other and we can keep our locker room morale above 70, which is where we will see penalties. Otherwise Nigel will be a wait and see project, he has potential, but he isn't a world beater, we'll use him often and hope that he develops properly.

6. Matthew Keith & Greg Gauge - Sam Keith's sons are really good pro wrestlers. Keith is a stage name, Gauge is the family's real name, and in an effort to get out of his father and brother's shadows, Greg decided to go by his real name and abscond to Japan. We've brought the whole family back together and will probably run them in a stable to piss Greg off. In all seriousness though, these two are great and Matthew Keith has all the tools to make it anywhere.

Conclusion

The next thread will be a preview of the Rip Chord Invitational VIII, which has already been simmed and is in the books, along with the next 2 shows, but if you have any feedback, feel free to voice it!

Rip Chord Invitational VIII Preview

Rip Chord Invitational VIII (2013)

Date: 26th January 2013

Sam Strong was interviewed by MAW.com this morning and was able to shed some light on the matches he has planned for tonight's big show. He talks about a few of MAWs new signings and hypes up their qualities, telling MAW.com that they're going to really show their qualities tonight. Furthermore, he announces the quarter finals matches for the Rip Chord Invitational Challenge, after the competitors were determined on the January tour dates.

The Cali Dragons (Mikey & Frankie) vs The Ring Generals (Waldorf & Statler)

Dean Waldorf and Marv Statler have heard of the Cali Dragons, but they've never had the pleasure of wrestling against them. Dean & Marv have a bit of a chip on their shoulder, and they need to prove that they are the best tag team in the company, even if they have only just gotten there. Sam Strong has no clue who's going to face The Dynamite Express for the Tag Titles in the near future, so he's going to pit the new tag teams against each other and see who impresses!

Quarter Finals Match

Ace Youngblood vs. Mean Jean Cattley

Quarter Finals Match

Hollywood Bret Starr vs. Keith Vegas

Quarter Finals Match

Findlay O' Faraday vs. Cameron Jones

Quarter Finals Match

Citizen X vs. Robbie Wright

The Rip Chord Invitation Challenge is one of the most prestigious honours in all of wrestling! Past winners include Cameron Vessey, Casey Valentine and Steve Flash! This year we are guaranteed a new winner with none of the previous champions being involved in the tournament!

Instead, we have hotshot Hollywood Bret Starr, the current American Champion and one of the fasting rising stars in the business; Cameron Jones, one half of the Tag Team Champions and looking to prove himself as a singles competitor; Keith Vegas, who has been put down numerous times over the last few months and needs to prove himself; Ace Youngblood, the exiting young talent with Native American blood in his family; Mean Jean Cattley, a true veteran of MAW; Citizen X, another veteran with some exciting high flying moves to show off; Robbie Wright, our new colour commentator who wants a Rip Chord Invitational to his name; and Findlay O'Faraday, the fan favourite who, in his own words: "doesn't afraid of anybody."

These eight competitors will fight it out in singles matches and the losers will be completely eliminated from the tournament. The winners will move on to the Semi-Finals, which, along with the Final match, will all be done in the same night! The winner of the tournament will get to choose a match against either the American Champion or the Mid Atlantic Champion. It really could go any way with almost every competitor in the tournament having a good chance of winning!

Casey Valentine vs KC Glenn

New hopeful KC Glenn showed up at the MAW Dojo this week to start training for a chance at making it to an MAW show. Casey Valentine seems to have not taken well to the new rookie, jealousy perhaps? Either way the two have some clear tension in the gym and it has led to a really negative environment at the MAW Dojo. The only way to solve issues here is in the ring, so these two will clash tonight!

Mid Atlantic Championship

Cameron Vessey vs ???

With most of the roster tied up with the Rip Chord Invitational Challenge, Cameron Vessey has laid down an open challenge for anybody in the entire wrestling industry to challenge for his championship. There's no telling quite who it's going to be, but there have been some rumours that it could be a veteran from New York Championship Wrestling who is a former Rip Chord Invitational Challenge winner.

The Cali Dragons vs. The Ring Generals

There's no time to think as the show kicks off with the entrances for the two newest tag teams in MAW. The crowd knows exactly who they are and the kick off duelling chants for a match-up they never thought they would see. The match begins with basic technical wrestling, Mikey James fighting toe-to-toe with Marv Statler. Eventually, the heels get control of the match, keeping the action on their side of the ring while making regular tags to keep fresh. After a few minutes of Mikey playing Babyface in peril, the hot tag is made and Frankie Perez picks up the win over Marv Statler.

Quarter Finals Match

Ace Youngblood vs. Mean Jean Cattley

The crowd have barely any time to catch their breath after the incredible hot tag before Mean Jean Cattley's familiar music echoes throughout Stanley Hall, met with a chorus of boos. Ace Youngblood arrives to a reasonable pop but is ambushed as soon as he entered the ring. Jay Fair is eventually able to start the match, but the damage has been done. Youngblood tries to fight back by eventually runs into a vicious piledriver. Mean Jean is through to the semi-finals, and the crowd are not happy.

Quarter Finals Match

Hollywood Bret Starr vs. Keith Vegas

The crowd continues to boo the previous match, which seams to attract the American Champion Hollywood Bret Starr, who smiles sinisterly as the crowd intensifies. The unspectacular entrance of Keith Vegas sends Starr into a fit of laughter, clearly unmoved by the resolve of the challenger. Keith starts to get angry and when the bell rings he launches himself towards Starr, catching him off guard and managing to gain the upper hand. A surprise brawl ensues with Keith getting a few really good shots in, ending with a great takedown from the young Vegas. Frustrated by a number of two counts, Vegas climbs to the top rope, the fatal mistake is capitalised on my Starr, who lunges towards the bottom rope to knock Keith off and seizes upon the opportunity with a vertical suplex. Starr is clearly tired, but that doesn't stop him smirking on the way to the back.

Robbie Wright Promo

The camera cuts to the announce booth where Marvin Ernest and Robbie Wright discuss the tournament so far. Marvin makes mention of Robbie's participation in the tournament, to which Robbie launches into a full fledged promo about his chances: "Not only am I going to win this tournament, I am going to be the absolute MVP of this damn tournament, there's not a single person in the bracket who can hang with me, especially not that roidhead asshole O'Farraday. I can't wait to beat the hell out of that asshole, but first I've got to show Citizen X how it's done." Robbie leaves the announce desk and heads for the back to get ready for his match.

Quarter Finals Match

Findlay O'Farraday vs. Cameron Jones

Cameron Jones enters with a mirror so that he can look at himself with his Tag Team Championship belt. Syd Collier enters with Jones, but is quickly sent to the back by Jay Fair who has seen quite enough of the Dynamite Express and their dastardly tactics. The lights dim, and a green glow infests the arena as Findlay O'Farraday enters to a huge pop. They crowd are clearly behind Findlay here but the Tag Champ looks unafraid standing across the ring from the big man. The two men lock up to start the match but it isn't long before Jones takes a shot to the face and is enraged by the actions of the fan favourite. Jones rolls to the outside to grab his mirror and tries to fix the bleeding but Findlay pulls him back into the ring and finishes him with a backbreaker. Finally! The fans get a result they want to see!

Quarter Finals Match

Citizen X vs. Robbie Wright

Robbie Wright returns to ringside with his gear in tow, the crowd are not very happy to see him, and they're ire intensifies as the reaches for a mic. "You don't want to hear the result of this match early? Fine." Robbie throws the mic back to one of the production staff and patiently awaits his opponent. Citizen X barrels down to the ring to his cheery theme and the two lock up to start the action. The match starts with some low key trading of blows and begins to intensify slowly, with Citizen X pulling off some athletic feats, culminating in a dive over the top rope to the outside. Robbie pulls Citizen X back into the ring but is hit by a vicious super kick, Citizen X climbs to the top rope and hits a fantastic moonsault to finish Robbie off. Wright returns to commentary with a scowl, prompting Marvin Earnest to ask him smugly about his experience.

Casey Valentine vs. KC Glenn

A clearly personal feud, as the two enter with little to no theatrics, despite this being KC Glenn's debut. The crowd start duelling chants for the two, but Casey stops them with a few rest holds to start the match out. Valentine continues to work the mat game as he grinds Glenn's face into the mat, perhaps trying to teach him a lesson. The pace quickens when Glenn counters a neckbreaker into one of his own and then hits a dropkick sending Valentine out of the ring. KC continues the breakneck pace until his lack of experience is shown, running headfirst into a vicious spear. Casey grinds his arm into the young wrestlers face as Jay Fair reluctantly counts three.

Ignore whatever drivel Cameron Vessey decides to spill on a regular basis, I am the true champion of Mid Atlantic Wrestling. Do you know how I am going to prove it? By winning matches, night after night. Semi-Finals Match

Mean Jean Cattley vs. Findlay O'Farraday

Two veterans of the ring lock up for the first of two semi finals matches. After some serious brawling Findlay O'Farraday gets the upper hand a hits backdrop to give him an opening. He goes after the right leg which has been the target of many surgeries over the last few years. Mean Jean struggles to get to his feat as Findlay plays to the crowd. Mean Jean stumbles into a seemingly impossible clothesline that sends Findlay out of the ring. Shocked, Findlay seems to snap, rolling back into the ring and viciously attacking the right leg. Findlay comes to his senses, separates before the DQ, plays to the crowd one last time, and hits a lariat for the win.

Semi-Finals Match

Hollywood Bret Starr vs. Citizen X

These two have been to the dance before, but neither have managed to go the full mile and win the big one, so this is a chance for them both to shine on the big stage, in a sold out arena of 300 people! Hollywood throws in a few early lariats that could take someone's head off, while Citizen X pulls off some nice flips to counter arm holds. Citizen X tries to take the pace up a notch by Hollywood is able to keep him grounded. Both men are incredibly tired from their earlier matches, but it looks like the veteran has a little spring in his step, hitting a moonsault to the outside on the youngster. It's Citizen X who gasses first however, unable to finish a vertical suplex, allowing Hollywood Bret Starr to roll him up for the win and the place in the final.

Mid Atlantic Championship

Cameron Vessey vs. ???

Cameron Vessey comes to the ring and picks up a microphone. Earlier today I issued an open challenge to anyone in the 'rassling business to come here and get a glorious opportunity at one of the greatest championships in the world... my championship, the Mid Atlantic Championship. Unfortunately, Sam Keith has not approached me with a contract today so... I'm afraid there will be no championship match, sorry, nobody has the balls to face the total package." Cameron goes to leave the ring before a familiar theme echoes throughout the arena, and the crowd go wild at Steve Flash appears at the entrance ramp! He enters the ring and the two have a stare down to chants of "this is awesome." The ring announcer runs through the protocols and Jay Fair shows the competitors what they're fighting for.

Cameron starts a little feverish, refusing to lock up with the challenger as he smiles, plays to the crowd, and runs in to hook a quick suplex. Vessey continues his attempt to gain some space but is constantly thwarted by the veteran Flash. Flash hooks in another vertical suplex but Vessey manages to throw an elbow in and exit the ring, gaining a needed rest. When Flash follows to the outside, the champ counters a clothesline into a drop toe hold sending him into the barricade. There is an audible clang as the audience is shocked and the veteran stays down for longer than expected. Vessey is in the ring celebrating as the ref counts to 8, but Steve Flash is stirring and just about manages to make it into the ring.

Flash is hurt, and it shows with his sluggish movement and groggy demeanour. It is now Vessey decides to lock up, capitalising on the opportunity provided to him. Cameron Vessey hits a number of nice suplexes as he works the veteran down, much to the ire of the crowd. Finally Vessey counters a last ditch attempt at a spear into the Vessey driver and Jay Fair counts the pinfall before calling for some doctors.

Matthew Keith Promo

Steve Flash is cleared from the ring and the crowd is all set for the main event, but an unknown music hits and a cocky youth makes his way to the ring. "My name is Matthew Keith, that's right I'm the boss's son, but you can believe that I am the real deal. I was too late to register myself for the tournament tonight but I guarantee you that had I been entered I would have smoked the competition. I'm a guy who talks a lot of smack, no doubt, but I back it up, and I stick by my word. To prove that, I've already registered for the Rip Chord Invitational Challenge IX, so I'll see you all there. In the meantime, you are going to be seeing a lot of me."

Finals Match

Hollywood Bret Starr vs. Findlay O'Farraday

O'Farraday and Starr have fought all night and the crowd recognise that, beginning duelling chants as soon as the competitors lock up in order to support the men who have worked so hard all night. That early match with Vegas might have had more of an effect on Hollywood, who tries to keep away from the clearly stronger Findlay. Findlay manages to get in a few good punches to Starr's jaw but Starr refused to go down latches onto O'Farraday with a sleeper hold. The crowd returns to their holding pattern of hating Hollywood and his antics as it seems Findlay is losing his grasp on the Rip Chord Invitational Challenge. Findlay plays to the crowd and fires up to break free of the hold, and as Hollywood looks to lock in another, the fatigue hits him and Findlay catches him with a nasty backbreaker to finish the young competitor and win the tournament.

Findlay O'Farraday Promo

After the match, Hollywood Bret Starr refuses to shake Findlay's hand, and Sam Keith comes out to present the trophy. Findlay picks up the microphone, with the small issue of which champion he is going to face needing to be addressed. "Well I just beat the paper champion, so beating him again wouldn't be much of a challenge when I've had a little more rest... but no matter what Mr. Hollyweird likes to say, the real title around here is the one held by Cameron Vessey. So Mr. Vessey, you can believe I'm coming for you! Get ready... or get SMASHED!" Findlay continues to celebrate with the crowd as Sam Keith walks away shaking his head.
