Watcher Diary- Real World 2004

Recommended Posts

About a year ago, I created a watcher game project

thread which gained a lot of views and interest from the community as I covered a variety of mods. I did it for several months, but stopped in February. Even though I stopped posting in that thread, I continued to do watchers, and when I saw that Sco xY2Jx created his own dynasty, it reminded me of when I posted my watcher updates to the forum. However, it also made me rethink about how I could share my watchers to this forum. When I used to post updates in my old thread, they were very unorganized and random, with no predictable interval of when news would come. Basically, I am going to be following a similar format to his, where I post weekly or monthly in game updates to this thread about note worthy events in the world. Big thanks to Sco xY2Jx , and I wish him good luck in his next dynasty if he starts one :) When the time comes and this dynasty is over, I will also be uploading the save file to dropbox for anyone interested in downloading it to explore it themselves.

For our first mod, we will be going through 2004, which is a very interesting time period. It's the launch of many careers in the indies, such as CM Punk, AJ Styles, and Bryan Danielson who are running wild all over the world. In the WWE, many legends are in their prime including the likes of Kurt Angle, The Undertaker, and Shawn Michaels. Future stars John Cena and Batista are also beginning their rise up the card at this time. At the same time, rival company TNA which is led by Jeff Jarrett is slowly becoming WWE's biggest competition in North America.

-Kicking off the very first day of the new year, New Japan kicked off their Red Alert tour. With every other champion successfully retaining their titles against their opponents, a shocking upset came in the co-main event when 50 year old Tatsumi Fujinami defeated Shinsuke Nakamura for his seventh IWGP Heavyweight Championship reign. Seeing as he didn't even hold the IWGP Title for one month, it will be interesting to see where NJPW goes with the young prospect Nakamura now. On the same show, Blue Wolf and Katsuyori Shibata announced that they would be a regular tag team now.

-On WWE's Monday Night RAW, it was headlined by an incredible tag team match as Shawn Michaels and Goldberg teamed up to take on Evolution (Flair & Triple H)

-WWE also made several brand moves as they made their entire women's division from Smackdown! over to RAW, likely to provide more contenders for the Women's Championship.

-NOAH created several tag teams this Tuesday, including the Heavy Smokers (Daisuke Ikeda and Takashi Sugiura) as well as the duos of KENTA & Naomichi Marufuji and Mitsuo Momoto & Haruka Eigen. These teams will surely add some depth to an arguably weak tag team division in the Japanese company.

-On the same show, Kenta Kobashi sucessfully defended his GHC title in a great 3 way match against Jun Akiyama and Hiroshi Tanahashi.

-On this weeks WWE Smackdown, the WWE champion Brock Lesnar defeated Chris Benoit in the main event.

-APW crowned a new Heavyweight Champion as B-Boy defeated fellow indy wrestler Vic Grimes in the main event. With that victory, B-Boy now holds two championships in the promotion.

-NJPW ran their second show of their tour for this week. For the second show in a row, the former champion Shinsuke Nakamura was defeated, this time at the hands of Scott Norton.

-Wednesday was also the first show for NWATNA in 2004. Headlining their weekly PPV was an NWA World Heavyweight Championship match between the champion Jeff Jarrett and Sting. After a good match, Jeff Jarrett once again retained his title.

-In one day, Ring of Honor released 13 workers from their PPA contracts, most notably Caprice Coleman and Alex Shelley.

-NJPW held their annual Wrestling World show this Thursday in front of a sold out arena of 16,000 fans. Oddly, the IWGP Heavyweight Champion Tatsumi Fujinami did not make an appearance at the show. The match of the night was the co main event between Masahiro Chono and Kazuyuki Fujita, which scored an 88. In the main event Nakamura, Nagata, and Norton defeated Liger, Tenryu, and Kensuke Sasaki.

-Rumors have been swirling around all week about NJPW and NOAH looking to sign some new talent to fill their rosters.

-In Stampede Wrestling, TJ Wilson won the North American Heavyweight Championship for the first time as he defeated Karnage.

-Friday, NOAH ran an extremely average show which was saved by the co main event: In an excellent (90/A) match, Kenta Kobashi defeated his long time rival Mitsahuru Misawa in a non title match which should have been the main event. However, in the main event, El Samurai defeated Takashi Sugiura to become the new GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion.

-While working a dark match for CMLL, TJ Perkins suffered a dislocated elbow which will keep him out of the ring for at least 26 days.

-The first of the wave of rumored signings for NOAH, Japanese legend Stan Hansen has signed a contract that will likely offer him a backstage role for the company. Because of this signing, Hansen will be leaving AJPW for the foreseeable future.

-In yet another match where a title changed hands, Kazushi Miyamoto and Kendo Kasin (Pain Game) defeated Mr. Gannosuke and Tetsuhiro Kuroda for the AJPW All Asia Tag Team Titles. Toshiaki Kawada also retained his Triple Crown Championship against Taiyo Kea in the main event.

-A number of companies received new bookers today, including Jake "The Snake" Roberts for NLW and Joey Styles for NWA Florida who are both looking to use their creative minds to bring their respective companies to greater things.
