BOSJ Day Two Prediction Results

Yeah, the nature of a Round Robin tournament (and running it in TEW) means that some guys may lose matches that they ordinarily wouldn't.

Let's take a look at the standings after two days of action...

No predictions for the Heavyweight matches for obvious reasons: these are more or less house shows and those matches are laughably predictable.

Block B

El Desperado (0) vs. Sho Tanaka (0)

This was really both of these competitor's best chance to get some points on the board. Tanaka started with some serious fire but couldn't match Desperado strike for strike and soon found himself wrapped in a rear chinlock. Tanaka showed some determination to get back into the match but it was the dastardly tactics of Despy that won out in the end. He shoved Tanaka into the referee and although the young lion managed to put the brakes on before he crashed into Marty Asami, he turned around right into Guitarra de Angel and Desperado took home the two points.

Block A

Tiger Mask IV (0) vs. Yohei Komatsu (0)

For its length, this match actually winded up being a very one-sided affair. Komatsu kept fighting on despite the insurmountable obstacle in front of him and showed some serious fighting spirit in doing so. Tiger Mask IV was sure he'd won after a Tiger Bomb, but Komatsu kicked him away at 2. The young lion even refused to tap out when locked in a Crossface but the Millenium Suplex (Pumphandle Tiger) proved to be the last blow Komatsu could take and the legendary fourth iteration of Tiger Mask took home his first points of the tournament.

Block B

Ryusuke Taguchi (2) vs. Bobby Fish (2)

A decent match here, especially compared to the two fairly tepid contests that proceeded it. This one was very back and forth, both Taguchi and Fish enjoyed periods of control. But one man is primarily a singles competitor and the other is more known for his tag matches and that showed towards the end as floated over out of a Brainbuster and hit the Dodon's Throne to put Fish down for the three.

Block A

TAKA Michinoku (2) vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima (2)

A real sleeper-hit of a match, TAKA is certainly making a case for MVP of the whole tournament at this rate. Nakajima excelled as the face in peril as Michinoku looked to keep to shut him down and keep him grounded. All that did was make Nakajima kick even harder though and after a Jumping Yakuza Kick, he made the cover and picked up the victory as it seemed he may have actually knocked TAKA clean out.

Block B

Mascara Dorada (2) vs. U-T (2)

Dorada picked up his victory over Zack Sabre Jr. and that probably means more than U-T's victory over El Desperado. But after losing yesterday, U-T seemed the more determined in the get-go. He took the fight to Dorada early on and spent most of the match trying to compete with high-flying moves. U-T was never winning that battle though and Dorada's Yoshi Tonic only put the Millenial out of his misery.

Six Man Tag Team Match

Captain New Japan, Kazushi Sakuraba & Watanabe vs. CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada, Toru Yano & YOSHI-HASHI)

We take perhaps a welcome break from singles action for a light hearted match here. Yano refuses to fight Sakuraba and although the 'Gracie Hunter' tries to engage him, Yano uses the referee as a shield and puts his tail between his legs as he runs off to his corner. Watanabe dukes it out with YOSHI-HASHI but shortly thereafter, everything breaks down. Sakuraba finally gets his mitts on Yano as 'The Rainmaker' sweeps in and eclipses everybody, picking up the pinfall on the Captain with his signature Rainmaker Lariat.

Block A

Alex Shelley (4) vs. Cavernario (4)

With two perfect records on the line here, Cavernario surprises everybody by taking an early risk, brawling his way into control on the outside before laying Shelley out with a slam onto the floor. From here, he scales the turnbuckles and leaps off from the top with a splash to Shelley on the outside! Shockingly, once Cavernario rolls one half of the Time Splitters back into the ring, he only gets a two count! The impact from that big move leaves Shelley on the receiving end for most of this contest though. That said, Cavernario fails to take advantage though and although it's been a good five minutes since having his ribs crushed, Alex Shelley finally starts stringing some offence together. Cavernario charges him in the corner but Shelley counters with an STO onto the turnbuckle padding before putting his dazed opponent away with an Air Raid Crash.

Block B

KUSHIDA (4) vs. Rocky Romero (2)

Considered by many to be the favourite for the whole tournament, KUSHIDA has found singles success thanks to his submission wrestling background as well as his sheer speed and ferocity. He's a well-rounded competitor but he met his match tonight. Romero had Kushi well-scouted, these two are very familiar with each other having had numerous battles in both the singles and tag ranks over the years and thus this one became a clash of wits rather than a battle of fighting spirit. Romero found the ultimate counter, roundhouse kicking KUSHIDA on the back of his head as he attempted a Handspring Back Elbow. The sheer force of this kick left Kushi seeing stars just long enough for Romero to come flying off the top with the Foreign Devil to pick up the win.

Block A

Ricochet (4) vs. Jay Lethal (0)

Ring Of Honor's TV Champion hasn't exactly had a flying start in this tournament. He was still without Truth Martini tonight (perhaps the reason he's struggling?), but adopted a fast pace to try and match one of the best high-flyers in the sport. Ricochet struggled to find his rhythm and simply couldn't keep Lethal down long enough to hit one of his signature dives. When Ricochet did manage to gain some momentum, his adversary got his knees up on a Standing Shooting Star Press attempt. The impact left Ricochet in some significant pain as he stood up, only to turn around into a Superkick that Lethal followed up on with the Lethal Injection to take home a big upset victory.

Block B

Jushin Thunder Liger (4) vs. Zack Sabre Jr. (2)

One of the finest pure technical wrestling matches that will happen in any promotion this year, this one was straight out of World Of Sport. Neither Sabre Jr. nor Liger were interested in a fight on any other front and took to the mat immediately. The crowd were respectful of the science but it wasn't until the closing stretch that they found something to cheer. After working over Liger's arm for most of the match, Sabre Jr. finally seemed set on locking on a Cross Armbreaker. But Liger swept his leg out from underneath him and pinned him in a modified O'Connor Roll, holding down the Englishman's shoulders just long enough to pick up the three.

Block A

Eita (2) vs. Kyle O'Reilly (2)

From one submission-oriented match to another, both of these men took about weakening the other's right arm in order to maximize the effectiveness of their armbar finishing maneuvers. O'Reilly was the one in the ascendancy for the most part, his skills on the mat trumped Eita's and he reduced the Millenial to only brief spurts of offence. That said, O'Reilly had to take advantage and he simply couldn't. He tried the Cross Armbreaker, but couldn't break his opponent's defensive grip and even when he did, Eita had already shimmied close enough to the ropes to force a break. Eita continued to live dangerously as he was spiked with a Brainbuster, only to kick out just before the three. As O'Reilly sent Eita for a ride, the Dragon Gate representative came back at twice the speed and slammed him to the canvas with a Crucifix Driver! Even though the multi-time ROH Tag Team Champion kicked out of the resulting pinfall before the three, Eita quickly transitioned into the Numero Uno (Scissored Seated Armbar), pulling O'Reilly's leg for extra torque. He fought the pain with all his heart but O'Reilly had no choice but to submit the match.

Six Man Tag Team Match

Yuji Nagata, Manabu Nakanishi & Tomoaki Honma vs. Suzuki-gun (Tetsuya Naito, Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Lance Archer)

In comparison to the Killer Elite Squad's rather ferocious energetic entrance, Naito walks very very slowly down the entrance ramp. Determined to do everything he can do to piss the fans off for boo'ing him for so long, he teases his signature corner dropkick - only to stop short and slap Honma in the face instead. He heckles with fans who try to touch him when he's on the outside, he mocks Honma's facial expressions after he misses a Kokeshi and generally acts in a way befitting of somebody you would call a dick. The match itself is something of a hoss-fight for the most part. The New Japan Army is mostly a team of brawlers and out-and-out fighters, but the endurance and power you need for that kind of wrestling is something K.E.S. have in spades. Naito supplies the classy touch and picks up the impressive victory for his team with a Stardust Press to Manabu Nakanishi.

Post-match, Naito takes a microphone as K.E.S. celebrate in the background with their NWA World Tag Team Championships. Naito proclaims Suzuki-gun as the least expected but yet most dominant force in NJPW. He says that his group will be back for the tiny belts that the Bullet Club hold, not that it matters because Suzuki's Army hold the important gold. He scoffs at CHAOS holding that 'puny' NEVER Openweight Championship and hints that maybe 'Invader X' will be coming for that soon. Maybe Suzuki will come for Shinsuke's beloved Gold? The fans cheer the possibility of this match-up but Naito quickly shuts them down as he tells Kobe that he's leaving now, he's sorry that their heroes lost but they better get used to that now. In a closing note, he tells them that they can get back to cheering their little heroes that come here every July.

Match Time: 14:36

Rating: B+ (match), B+ (promo)

An unpredictable day on every account. Some of you got results such as Lethal right, only to get Eita wrong. :p I suppose this means I'm probably doing something right.

I'm open to feedback by the way, especially with regards future tournaments. Would you readers appreciate shorter write-ups? Do the less important matches even need them? Right now, I'm taking it as though everybody is really enjoying it. :)

I was debating this exact thought. I generally read shows on my phone so for me personally I feel like the graphics and short write-up help tell the story. With that said, especially for early matches or short matches a simple who won is fine with me. In the end, what keeps bringing me back to this diary (despite my lack of participation), is that I like the product and don't know much about it.

Best Of The Super Juniors Day Four

May 29th, 2015

In something of a dream team, Naomichi Marufuji teams with Katsuyori Shibata, Hirooki Goto & Satoshi Kojima to take on a Bullet Club quartet. Also in action, a CHAOS trio battle Suzuki-gun.

In Super Junior action, we enter the middle ground as the less successful competitors look to turn their tournaments around before it's too late. In the featured match of the evening, Cavernario meets Ricochet in what is sure to be an interesting encounter. Meanwhile, Alex Shelley and Jushin Thunder Liger seek to keep their perfect records intact.

Since you asked.

I like a little longer write ups. Especially if the first two sentences of a match are back ground, I like the match to be covered in more than one sentence. In a pruoresu promotion the story is told in the ring, so an extra sentence or two would be great. For the sake of my sanity, left align.:)

Take all this with a grain of salt, everyone has their own preferences.

<p>Zack Sabre Jr. - <em>Despy may have picked up a win, but that doesn't mean he's winning another one.</em></p><p>

Jay Lethal - <em>Jay can end this with a good score yet.</em></p><p>

Mascara Dorada - <em>Boned fish.</em></p><p>

TAKA Michinoku - <em>Tiger Mask had a pretty rocky start, so I think Taka takes this one.</em></p><p>

Rocky Romero - <em>Give a win to gaijin.</em></p><p>

Alex Shelley - <em>Shelley is doing amazing here, so he can keep that up.</em></p><p>

Jushin Thunder Liger - <em>Go Liger! Keeping that win tally going.</em></p><p>

Katsuhiko Nakajima - <em>Shot in the dark.</em></p><p>

KUSHIDA - <em>Hoverboard lock is pretty awesome.</em></p><p>

Ricochet - <em>Come on Puma! Don't make Konnan have to show up to whip you into shape!</em></p><p> </p><p>

As the format goes, I agree that with certain matches it's fine to skimp on the details. It just makes the more important matches seem more important.</p>
