Ayden
From the ashes rises the world famous Movie Tycoon game! Ever wanted to run a movie studio, write scripts, cast movies? This is your chance! (Obviously not for reals, but it’s still fun...I promise.) Basic Rules Every new studio starts with $10,000,000. The player cannot go overbudget! Each day players can make movies with cast of their choice. Keep an eye on the current trends; they have a fair impact in determining the success of your movie. The trend is there to help, but not necessary. A great movie will always be great regardless of trend but the trend will give you an edge, timing is a factor when it comes to the movie business(or at least in this game). To enter yourself into the movie industry, please create your studio: Studio Name: Founder Name(i.e. your IGN): Then, you can start to make a movie (You can do this in the same post as your studio application) Step One - Pre-Production Title: Rating (i.e. G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17): Genre: (Drama, Thriller, Comedy, Action, Sci-Fi, Arthouse, War, Western, etc) Brief summary of the movie: Amount you plan to spend on production: Will you make your movie look like a blockbuster, an indy great or a Z-Grade horror? The choice is yours but keep in mind, this number can affect whether talent will want to work on your movie. This is also where you can choose to shoot on location or on a set. Amount you plan to spend on marketing: Do you want to build some hype for your movie or hope name recognition of the talent is enough? You then must list the actors/actresses/directors you want to contact for this film. You should include things like: What will their role be? (Director, main lead, second lead, supporting, cameo) Main lead - The major character of a movie. Second lead - The "midcard" character of a movie, this includes less-important lead characters and also the major supports. Supporting - All the minor supports belong here. Role detail: Describe the characters as this will help talent decide whether they want to take the role Contractual Clauses: Will there be nudity/sex scenes? Contract for multiple movies (sequels, cinematic universe etc)? Also, keep in mind certain talent may have their own demands eg IRL Samuel L Jackson requires that he play a round of golf every day during filming. (I won’t use that in the game but it’s an example) These kinds of things can have different effects on your film, both positive and negative. Perks: This can range from future role promises, a cut of the profits etc. Use your imagination You then must wait for a response from the actor/actress/director before you can begin shooting your film. Step Two - Post-Production Title- Lead Actor - Secondary leads are also lead. There can be more than 1 main and secondary lead. Lead Actress - See above. Supporting Actor - OPTIONAL, but gives better quality value. Supporting Actress - See above. Director - This could have a huge impact on the direction and overall success of your movie. Genre - Drama, Thriller, Comedy, Action, Sci-Fi, Arthouse, War, Western, etc Rating - G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17 Plot - Give an explanation that is decent enough. The better the explanation of the plot, including referring to which actor is which character, and what the gist of the story is, the more likely your movie will succeed. Always try to stand out, look for things that separate your movie from the other movies of same genre and tell me that Budget - (Total of talent + production + marketing) Talent fee - Actors and director's fee Production - A single number will do but one can go more indepth (like groundbreaking 3D effects) if they want to Marketing - A single number will do but one can go more indepth if they want to Duration - Length of the movie... Too short and people won't bother wasting their money or the story is told in full potential; too long and they will grow bored of even a great flick. Genre has some impact on this, it's much harder for someone to accept a 150 minute comedy than a 150 minute war movie. Click here to access the Movie Tycoon Spreadsheet (You are not limited to the talents in the spreadsheet, we can always add more people to the spreadsheet) Adaptation If you want to use a book or a comic or something else that is considered copyrighted you can make a request and I will reply to your request with the copyright owner’s demands. You can attempt to haggle, however there is no guarantee the company will bend to your will. If somebody has contacted a company about the same copyrighted material you would like, you can enter a bidding war. In doing so the price of the movie will be driven up, but the movie will gain publicity and hype through it. Note: With adaptations, films that have already been confirmed IRL can be scooped up BUT you must use the cast that are already confirmed (eg if you wanted to make Star Wars Episode 8, you must use Daisy Ridley as Rey etc.) This is just to keep some realism to RL, which is a personal preference of mine. However if you wanted to do a spin-off in the Star Wars universe, you may use whomever you want. I will also be using Goliaths profit adjustment method when it comes to the big franchises. What the frak is that "profit adjustment" about? (Stolen from Goliath) Profit adjustment is to stimulate the drawing power of franchise(usually the big ones) and give said movies higher box office number but keep the game balanced in terms of "original vs adaptation". Example: Star Wars 8(80% profit to Lucasfilms/Disney) Revenue: 65,000,000 80% Franchise: 52,000,000 ----------------------------- Revenue: 13,000,000 Budget: 3,000,000 ----------------------------- Gross Profit: 10,000,000 ----------------------------- Net Profit: 10,000,000 Original Sci-Fi Revenue: 13,000,000 Budget: 3,000,000 ----------------------------- Gross Profit: 10,000,000 ----------------------------- Net Profit: 10,000,000 Assuming the writing quality is largely similar in both case, they still earn the same amount of profit, yet it is more believing to see that a Star Wars movie has 53,000,000 of total revenue because every fan boy would want to watch the new Star Wars movie anyway, so the revenue has to make sense yet the player shouldn't get that amount of huge income at the earlier part of their career. Do note that if you are good with negotiation, you might earn well from a franchise deal, using the above example, let's say you negotiate Disneydown to a 75%: Star Wars 8 (75% profit to Lucasfilms/Disney) Revenue: 65,000,000 75% Franchise: 48,750,000 ----------------------------- Revenue: 16,250,000 Budget: 3,000,000 ----------------------------- Gross Profit: 13,250,000 ----------------------------- Net Profit: 13,250,000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Profit Formula Total Revenue: xxx, xxx, xxx xx% Franchise: xxx, xxx, xxx ----------------------------- Studio Revenue: xxx, xxx, xxx Budget: xxx, xxx, xxx ----------------------------- Gross Profit: xxx, xxx, xxx Post-release: xxx, xxx, xxx Bonus: xxx, xxx, xxx Co-Studio: xxx, xxx, xxx Misc. Cost: xxx, xxx, xxx ----------------------------- Net Profit: xxx, xxx, xxx xx% Franchise: If you are doing an adaptation, the franchise owner is going to eat a certain % of your profit. Budget: The pre-release budget. Post-release: The post-release salary of talents. Bonus: Promised bonus to talents. Co-Studio: If you have a studio partner, there's the promised cut to them. Misc. Cost: Any other form of cost. Talent I will be using StarPoint(SP) as a star power measurement for talent. Every star starts between 0.50 SP to 5.00 SP.. SP is a popularity gauge and not raw talent. It's pretty much like pop in TEW or WMMA. Talent is subjective so it's not my place to judge that. Also, I really don't think every A-list out there are A-list because of their raw talent, they are just popular enough to be on the A-list due to combined result of various factors. You can make anyone a big star if you put them into good films. I am trying to make sure everything is possible and fun in this game and even if you want to push someone like Sasha Grey to the hollywood A-list, you can try and you do have chance to succeed in that. Foreign talents are welcomed but expect them to get low SP in most case because they are not well-known yet in Hollywood. Still, you can have fun trying to make them into big star and one thing about low SP is that they are cheap enough for you to use them a lot if you really like them. It is important to know that while there's no gauge or value for talent in this game, SP isn't everything. The suitability of said talent to a role is also important. More details are on the luck factor section. As they take part in movies, their SP will change (or not change in some case), depending on the review of said movie. SP can increase or decrease in increments of 0.25 or more but talent aren’t guaranteed an increase/decrease. A base pay rate for the talent is 1M * SP (E.g. a 1.0 SP would want 1M to take part in a movie), then it is modified by the roles and other factors. On normal occasion: Director: 100%-130% * base pay + bonuses(the most common bonus is movie's gross) Lead: 80%-120% * base pay Secondary lead: 60%-90% * base pay Support: 30%-65% * base pay Keep this in mind when casting your film. Blow all your budget on a bunch of A-listers and your movie tanks? You’re gonna be in trouble from the get-go. There are plenty of cheap talent who have the potential to not only do well but break out, as long as the role suits them and the writing is good (but luck will also play a factor.) Talent Chemistry Something I have decided to add is chemistry between talents. This can be positive or negative (much like in TEW) and can be between actors/actresses or actors/actresses and directors. It will be completely RNG-based and no RL pre-existing chemistry bonuses/penalties exist. It’s a clean slate. Luck factor So, luck factor. How does it work? There will be a lot of "dice rolls" but I will be using a random number generator (https://www.random.org/). How it’ll work is I will use the RNG for each of the talents involved in your movie and this will affect the outcome (not the whole outcome though, writing still has a big effect.) I will use the number range 1-60 when doing my RNG. The numbers 1-29 are not good (with 1 being the worst) and the numbers 32-60 are good (with 60 being the best.) The numbers 30 & 31 will be random events. 30 is on the bad side so will affect the talent involved negatively. Maybe someone has a drug relapse and has to go back to rehab. Maybe someone is injured while filming. (I will also have a list of events which I will also use the RNG for but I’ll keep those as a surprise.) 31 is on the good side and will affect the talent positively. There will be plenty of RNGs with different levels of impact. In terms of talent performance, director > main lead > second lead > support. I give director the most impact because he's supposed to direct the entire project. If the director's cutting decision sucks, the end product is going to suck anyway. There are also other rolls/draws like whether the movie is a hit or flop and so on. While the range is always between the 60 numbers, every talent in every role will have different range of success and failure based on the suitability to said role and other factors. For example, putting Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson into the very basic lead role character of an action movie and you have a huge chance of him doing well there compared compared to putting him into the lead role of a romantic drama. Katherine Heigl will feel at home in yet another rom-com but not other genres. Of course, if you put a typecasted star in a non-typecast role and he has huge success on that role, then it will be HUGE for that star and the movie. It's pretty dynamic in a way. You can play safe or you can take some risk on the casting and see how they do. Any questions, just ask

Russelrules44
(You have no idea how I've been waiting for this) Studio Name: Viper's Den of Movies Founder Name: Jacob Jones Step One - Pre-Production Title: Luna Rating (i.e. G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17): PG Genre: 2D Animated Adventure/Comedy Brief summary of the movie: A man is enchanted by the princess of the night Luna; (no relation to Princess Luna of MLP: FiM fame) and goes on an epic adventure to stop an evil master of fire named Adolebit from turning the world into a smoldering ring of fire. Amount you plan to spend on production: $1,100,000 ($1,200,000 if you count the trailers) Amount you plan to spend on marketing: $1,000,000. You then must list the actors/actresses/directors you want to contact for this film. You should include things like: What will their role be? (Director, main lead, second lead, supporting, cameo) Main lead - Luna- The main heroine of the movie and the princess of the moon, she brings the moonlight onto the people of the world. I see her as like Belle, she's strong, kind, independent and active. But she has her limits. (Mae Whitman, no nudity, Will co-release soundtrack with lead hero) Main lead- Marcus- The main hero of the movie, he is an ordinary man who tries to do the right thing; the problem is that he keeps messing it all up, whether by accident or by other conicdences. (Howard McGillin. No nudity, Will co-release soundtrack with lead heroine and I am willing to offer is a trailer of his own. Well, he IS broadway royalty after all, he deserves to bask in it) Main Lead- Adolebit- The main villain of the movie, he is a wicked sorcerer who was banished from the sky by King Sol after attempting to murder Luna. He now wants revenge on Luna for what happened to him and will stop at nothing until he engulfs the world in a fiery death. (Gary Oldman. No nudity, no perks.) Second Lead- Nightlight- A rambunctious firefly, He is Fauna's best friend and likes to explore the outside world and learn about what humans do in their daily lives. She tries to keep everyone in line and is very diplomatic; she also studies Mongolian culture and can speak five different languages. (English, Spanish, French, Danish and Estonian) (Tara Strong, no nudity, This is Tara Strong we're talking about. She's basically Jim Cummings for women, she'll definitely fit a leading role for our next animated venture) Second Lead- Chienne- The name getting crap over the radar aside, Chienne is a snooty French poodle who believes herself to be of French royalty and that when she finds her true love, she will turn into a princess. (Camille, french singer; look her up. No nudity, can sing end credits theme.) Supporting- Brad- Marcus's best friend, he is messy, lazy and rather stupid. But he really does care for his friend and will defend him to the very end. (Adam Sandler, No nudity, Like Howard McGillin, i'm willing to give your own trailer. And the third movie we make? You're the star of.) Supporting- Sol; as the name suggests, he is the leader of the galaxy and rises up the sun every day. He is a benevolent ruler and knows what's right and what's wrong. He is usually seen in flashbacks and doesn't show up in his full form other than the beginning narration and the end of the film. (James Earl Taylor, no nudity, no perks) Narrator- Yes, there will in fact be a narrator for this movie. He only speaks in the beginning, but hey; it's still an important job to get. (John Cleese, no nudity. There might be a road in the future of you getting a bigger role) Director- As we feel this movie should be our answer to Disney and Pixar, We would like to contact Alex Hirsch, Richard Rich and Don Bluth for the role and see what he thinks. If the movie is successful, I could see us getting an animation division.

Not sure if you'll accept it, but please just consider. Tom Kenny - He is happy with $800k Accepted. Tara Strong - If you're happy to promise her a starring role in one of your next three movies (you said next but she's busy so will settle for within next three) then she will do it for $700k Accepted. Camille - She wants $800k Accepted. Adam Sandler - He appreciates the trailer and the future role promise but he still wants $3m. However, he will drop it to $2m if you also give Kevin Smith, David Spade OR Rob Schneider a starring role within your next 6 movies I'll do one better. Adam Sandler and Kevin Smith team up for one movie, Then Sandler and Spade and finally Sandler and Schneider. That way everyone is happy! [OOC: Did you mean James Earl Jones?] [Yeah] John Cleese - He wants $100k Accepted. Alex Hirsch - He wants $600k but he tells you to keep in mind that he has also been offered another movie and if he signs on for both it could affect his work negatively (fatigue) or positively (momentum, creative flow etc) [OOC if he is chosen, this will be an RNG event] Eh, you do what you have to do. You can go with Mitch. Don Bluth - He would like $500k but the potential of an animation division has him intrigued. If you were to lock him up for THREE animated features, he will do this one for $150k Accepted.

I can go scene for scene or I can do paragraphs that breakdown like a short story. Also, don't forget you can negotiate with your talents to try get them to drop their prices (won't always work). You can promise them things like future deals as well.
