How To Install A Mod

Recommended Posts

A 'mod' is a fan-made database. It allows you to play different scenarios. You can download mods from this forum. You may need a zipping program (such as WinZip or WinRar) to access them; these are freely available on many download sites.

To install a mod:

1 - Download the mod you wish to use.

2 - Extract it to your desktop.

3 - Open TEW2016.

4 - Access the editor, select Create Database, and follow the instructions. For the purposes of clarity we will assume you used the name MyNewMod for the remainder of these steps.

5 - Close down TEW2016.

6 - Navigate to the MyNewMod folder (this will likely be in Program Files \ GDS \ TEW2016 \ Databases).

7 - Replace the TEW2016.mdb file that you find inside MyNewMod with the one you extracted in step 2.

8 - Open TEW2016. You should automatically be using the MyNewMod database, if not you can select it via the taskbar.

Some mods come with custom picture packs. If this is the case, you can install them as follows:

1 - Download the picture pack you wish to use (NB: this may have already been included as part of the mod in the previous example)

2 - Extract it to your desktop.

3 - Open TEW2016.

4 - Access the editor, select Create Picture Folder, and follow the instructions. For the purposes of clarity we will assume you used the name MyNewPics for the remainder of these steps.

5 - Close down TEW2016.

6 - Navigate to the MyNewPics folder (this will likely be in Program Files \ GDS \ TEW2016 \ Pictures).

7 - Inside you will find multiple subfolders, each of which contain a specific type of picture. The names of the subfolders should match the names of the ones you extracted in step 2. Fill each folder with the content from the extracted folder of the same name.

8 - Open TEW2016. Go into the editor, Edit Database, and select Database Info. You will see a line called Picture Folder. MyNewPics should be an option. Select it and then save. Your database is now using the correct picture folder.

Please note that mods are specifically designed to use certain picture folders; you may not be able to mix and match due to the file names being different. A good mod should specify what it is designed to work with.
