(Hype) 1999 Turning Tides

With someone else working on 1998 I have switched gears to Jan, 1999

 

Many recognize Jan 1999 as the turning point in the Monday Night Wars. For the past year and half Nitro and Raw have battled in the ratings. WWF took the world by storm with their Attitude programming and ruled much of 1998. In August of 98 WCW using the popularity of The Warrior took back the lead for 6 weeks until WCW beat raw in the ratings for the last time in October 1998.

 

The WWF hasn't hit its peak ratings wise, the roster is filled with talent and something special is happening.

 

The WCW is floundering but still has some life, major egos are taking over booking, Goldberg's streak has just ended to a cattle prod, Hulk Hogans mighty finger is just a few days away do you have the power to stop it and right the direction of the Titanic in a sea of icebergs?

 

ECW is red hot and seeking a national TV deal, while still grinding along in syndication. Money troubles haven't hit yet. Can their risky product succeed in the era of attitude?

I'm looking for a good mod around this era. The closest ones I found in TEW13 were a 97 mod and a 01 mod. But none of them felt quite right after playing the 91 mod.

 

If you get chance, study the 91 mod. It is done so well that other Mods feel so inaccurate after you've played it.

Awesome. I started watching wrestling (well, just WWF) in February 1999 when I was a kid, so I have a ton of nostalgia for the whole '99 to early 2000s era.

 

I've always been interested in what WWF would have been like if Steve Austin didn't get injured in 1999 (which led to The Rock stepping up as the next big Babyface in 2000). Personally, I think fans would have gotten sick of Austin's gimmick and constant wins, but that's just me.

 

For realism's sake, you could make sure The Giant's WCW deal expires after January '99 (technically his last appearance was February 8, 1999), and Chris Jericho's WCW deal expires in Summer 1999. The exact date of Jericho's contract expiring is iffy because they kept him stuck to house shows. According to Wikipedia, he signed with WWF on June 30, 1999, but his last WCW appearance was July 21, and he debuted on Raw on August 9.

 

Again, just a suggestion for realism's sake. Giant and Jericho jumping to WWF were pretty big turning points in the Monday Night War.

Working to update each worker 1 by 1 currently. Adjusting most of the bios so that each worker has a bio describing them while any company specific gimmick details is being included in alter egos. Only major workers will get alter ego treatment in the initial pass. Trying to make sure the mod operates as a snapshot in time, meaning that information that occurs after Jan 1 1999 is not included in their biographies.
