[HYPE] 1980: The Changing Face of Wrestling...

Recommended Posts

The year is changing. With the tumultuous seventies over and done with, the world looks to new horizons in the form of the 1980s. Professional wrestling, long removed from its heyday of the fifties and sixties, is no different than any other aspects of life. New blood is on the rise in the territories; new athletes determined to stake their own claim as those who built the sport slowly retire or die off. It is the dawning of a new era, and a change is on the horizon...

I'm really excited about this mod as there's some real fun stuff happening: Mid South had the Freebirds vs JYD "blinding feud" and GCW had some real great talent with Rich, Idol, Masked Superstar and then the 'Birds coming in late in the year. Piper vs Rose in PNW, Florida was still hopping. WCCW wasn't really a force until Christmas 1982.

One thing I'm really looking forward to with this one, is that everything is regional at this point. You had Georgia on TBS but it was a pretty small penetration compared to what TBS is now. WWF was strictly in the Northeast and it will be fun to either follow history or completely reshape it.

Totally agree here, will make for a nice alternate history

I played the hell out of Genadi's Golden Age mod - probably far more than any others, so I'll be looking forward to this. When you can play JCP, use Ann Casey at the end of her career, push Joyce Grable and Debbie Combs, steal Madusa, Candi Devine and Sherri from Verne (Verne, I love you; I'm sorry), work with new talent like Misty Blue Simmes, and sign Wendi Richter because she hates Vince, women's wrestling is on in the NWA.

Being somewhat of an expert on 80s/90s women's wrestling, I also added workers like Reggie Bennett, Allison Royal, and a few others who escape me.

Definitely looking forward to this one. If you'd like any help with the ladies, just give me a shout and I'd be more than happy.

Edit: And that's not even including what you can do with all the GUYS you know you're going to make legends out of. An early 90's youth movement powered by a feud between Ric Flair and Shane Douglas? Oh yeah, it happened. ;)

Yeah...I've basically using DOTT as a base and working backwards, which is a hell of a lot more difficult then moving forwards is (a 1995 mod, which is based on Hive's Clash of the Titans, was much easier to construct in 13). It's slow going, and will be a while before it's out, but I still intend on completing it.
