Chapter 1: The Ratings War

(Mikey Lau: Currently Narrating)

December 31st, 2015

New York City

It was around 3 p.m. during the end of autumn when I first heard about "Black Wednesday". I was getting off of the A train at Penn Station. As I got out of the New York City underground and walked up the dirty, concrete steps toward the surface, my cellphone regained service, and it vibrated with three new notifications. Two were emails from Cliff Anderson about next month's show, another was from Pro Wrestling Daily.

3 Major SWF Stars Jump Ship to USPW

(The Black 3)

"Whoa," I thought to myself. I got to my hotel room and took out my laptop. Steve Frehley, Rich Money and Dawn the Cheerleader had decided to leave SWF for USPW. Insane.

The months leading up to Black Wednesday, wrestling fans were perplexed in the direction USPW was going, the company's future was thrown into confusion as legendary owner Sam Strong had announced his retirement and had put the promotion up for sale. Rumors of purchasers ranged from "World's Smartest Man" Dunton Hall to USPW mainstay Belle Bryden. For almost half a year, the new owner of the company had been thrown into question, until it was announced billionaire Allen Packer had purchased the company.

(Allen Packer)

SWF was in a state-of-panic, as the weeks following, the retirement of Christian Faith and the departure of Marat Khoklov meant that the company was down four main eventers. Stock was at a historic low, ratings were tanking, and head booker and voice of SWF Peter Michaels soon found himself out of a job. I followed the news passively; I was focused on my own career, but I had a nagging feeling that this inter-promotion ratings war was going to transform the industry forever.

Scouring the independent scene, SWF had signed a lot of new blood. I received several offers from their scouts, but I held out for a while. I had worked in the day time, and wrestling at CZCW meant that I could pursue my career in business.

After a few months, however, I got burned out from working at Goldman Sachs. I felt like the lack of action and adrenaline from my day-to-day and the pay wasn't as rewarding as I originally thought it would be. Being a business man was my Chinese mom's dream, pro wrestling was my own. So when SWF came by again and offered me a contract, I put some more thought into it. For days, I debated, and finally, I had decided to sign the dotted line.

Richard Eisen, the puppet master himself, met with me. A refined, older man, his face was lined with new wrinkles and a shock of grey hair, likely from the the recent rise of USPW.

(Richard Eisen)

Richard Eisen: Welcome to SWF, Mr. James, I'm glad that you've finally joined us. I thought you'd actually go through with holding out on us.

Me: I guess not, times change you know?

Richard Eisen: I understand. Times have changed...drastically. Mikey, before you debut, I need you to change your in-ring name. Come up with something, because I can't have you being mistaken with Brandon.

Richard Eisen was referring to Brandon James, one of SWF's biggest stars. Unfortunately, it wasn't very likely for me to convince "Big Money" to change his in-ring name, so I changed my character to "Mikey Lau", using my mom's maiden name, and a traditional Hong Kong last name.

I was surprised during my debut, as the fans went wild during my first match against James Prudence, where I scored a clean win. Over the months, I had solidified myself a consistent spot in the midcard, and with the future looming, I was positioned toward a push as SWF began its new project to create newer stars.

Anyways, fast forward to today, I was sitting in my NYC hotel, staring at the view from Chelsea, as the ball dropped.

*PHONE RINGS*

I starred at the bright screen on my smartphone. It was from Jerry Eisen, the son of Richard Eisen and the head booker of SWF.

(Jerry Eisen)

Me: Hey Jerry, happy New Year's, what's up?

Jerry Eisen: Thanks, hope your's is good too. Get some rest, big show to start the year in two days. Anyways, are you busy right now? I wanted to talk to you about something.

Me: Yeah, I'm good, what's up?

Jerry Eisen: Well, I was going over your past, and I realized something you had been keeping from us, when you signed that contract.

Me: What do you mean? Is something wrong?

A knot formed in my stomach.

Jerry Eisen: Don't worry, it's nothing bad.

The tightness lightened up a little...

I read up about your time at Goldman Sachs. Your education at Columbia, your work writing literature. Impressive extracurricular, much different from the average hoss drinking beer and downing pills.

Me: Well, uh, yeah, it's nothing I really dedicate myself to. Sachs was just to keep my wallet full at CZCW.

Jerry Eisen: Your old boss, he said you were the brightest mind in his history with the company. He complimented your quick thinking, your creativity for solving difficult problems and the respect you command from your peers. Cliff Anderson said about the same with your time at CZCW, also mentioning that you subbed in for The Guru for a few months and killed it in the creative department as well.

Me: Uh, yeah, I guess that's true...

Jerry Eisen: Stop being modest Mikey, that's why I'm on the line. You see, my dad put me into the position because he sees me as the future owner of this company when he retires. But I'm not a booker, I don't have a bone of creativity in me. Peter and Sam, they knew how to do their jobs, unfortunately, in a job where your latest success is all they look at, they got canned.

Me: Well, I think you're doing a good job...

Jerry Eisen: Nobody likes an ass-kisser. I know what the boys in the back say about me. Why I'm only the head booker because of my dad. How I'm the real reason why people are tuning into USPW rather than SupremeTV.

Me: That's because we relied too heavily on the casual fans. A product like USPW is perfect for them, the hardcore smarks is who we should be pandering to.

Jerry Eisen: You see, you understand these fans. Matched with your business pedigree, I feel like you could absolutely take us back to the glory days...which is why I'm turning in my resignation from my position, effective as of tomorrow, and I'd like you to step in.

Me: WAIT WHAT?! I haven't even been in the company for a full year...

Jerry Eisen: True, but I think you have what it takes, Mikey. You better get ready, a private jet is waiting for you at LaGuardia, you don't want to keep the pilot waiting, he's an impatient man. Also, you have a show to book. Good luck.

Me: Uhh, sure, thanks...

And with that, I went from a local California promotion's figurehead to the head booker of America's historically most successful wrestling company in the world. Strange feeling, as SWF is currently at its weakest. As a child, SWF was the only company in pro wrestling, nothing came close. By the time I started high school, HGC/TCW had surfaced, but it had never truly challenged SWF. This was the first time SWF was playing catch up, the first time we were the underdog.

I checked out of my hotel. The concierge called me a late night taxi to LaGuardia, as I quietly handed the driver $50 in cash. Not a word was spoken on the word there. I got through TSA, who looked slightly perplexed, probably asking how a young late-20's Asian man was able to afford a private jet. I nodded quietly, and a shuttle drove me onto the airfield. I starred outside the window, but there wasn't much to see. It was past midnight and the black night sky dominated the landscape. I got off the shuttle and onto the Lear-45. The pilot, a warm, middle aged man greeted me, and relieved me of my baggage.

Taking a deep breath, I pulled out my laptop, and connected it to the plane's wifi. Time to get to work, I thought to myself.

From the looks of things, SWF wasn't in a good shape. Around $10 million in funds, the company's value had been drastically declining for months, according to the financial charts. Reverie's streaming service seemed to make USPW much easier to access. Hmm.

The roster wasn't much better. Having a look at the departures, it stung a little...

(All the talent SWF has recently lost)

Having a look at the current roster, it didn't make me feel any better. Outside of Remo and possibly Angry Gilmore, none of our main event stars looked to be a part the future past the next two years. With Jack Bruce and Vengeance, we're kicking the can down the road until they eventually are forced to retire. Brandon James and Rogue are both a year away from 40. The Crippler is doing the best work of his career, but with his age and how much his reliance on in-ring work ties into his appeal, he doesn't seem like a future building block. Valiant and Joey Morgan seem primed to be main eventers, but outside of that, it's all wildcards. Maybe Des Davids, but who knows how he'll recover from a torn rotator cuff.

("The Stars of SWF")

As I sit, flying through the dark sky, I realize the depth of how difficult the next few months were. We, SWF that is, were going to go to war, with the most dangerous enemy the company had ever seen in its 44 year history. The next few months determined if SWF would regain its position as the premiere wrestling company in the world or if it would sink to total oblivion. The problem was, SWF wasn't going to be able to go back to Connecticut and run shows in high school gymnasiums. With the heavy contracts and loss of sponsorships, the company would be completely eliminated. But it wasn't just a company. It was my memories, from my childhood, it was the history of the legendary battles of Sam Strong, Rip Chord and Christian Faith, it was the 46 years of childhood dreams, larger-than-life heroes and unparalleled moments of drama that would be buried 6-feet-under.

I took another deep breath. Here goes nothing, I whispered.

This was a common sight during the entire 2000's, as the masked Lobster Warrior captured the hearts of millions of children all around the globe, his fun-loving antics and his good nature inspiring young children everywhere to "obey the law of the land". </div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

So it came as a surprise to the SWF Galaxy when, after a tag-team win with Jack Bruce against the Pain Alliance, "Lobbie" shockingly turned on his partner, hitting him with a brutal "Lobster Trap" and then piledriving the head of Bruce into a chair, much to the chagrin of the children in the audience. Covered in blood, Bruce was rushed to the hospital where he endured months of intense physical therapy, his career in jeopardy. </div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

With such interesting circumstances surrounding our newest villain, just how did the lovable Lobster Warrior turn into the psychopathic submission machine that The Crippler is today? It wasn't as if the former-Lobster Warrior wasn't a successful wrestler; he was a three-time North American champion and a former tag-team champion as well. His merchandise had been in the top 5 in sales here on SWF-Online since 2003. </div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

His twisted psyche can be attributed to his past. Before he put on the mask, Morrisette was strictly a "wrassler", a traditional, no-frills grappler, wrestling in the old-school style of pro-wrestling. Traveling throughout the continent, Morrisette applied painful holds and maneuvers on some of North America's very best wrestlers, but the SWF never looked his way. It slowly ate away at Morrisette, who began to despise the very machine that would create him into a global phenomenon. He endured the torture of dressing up as a lobster, not because he loved the children or the gimmick, it was but a means to an end, and that end is to win the SWF World Heavyweight Championship.</div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

New SWF Head Booker Announced?

A Shocking Development

by Mark Smart, lead writer

Just months into the departure of long-time creative leader Peter Michaels, Supreme Wrestling Federation has announced the new permanent head booker, Mikey Lau, who has been with the company since February of 2015.

"I'm just as surprised as everyone else is," said Lau. "I hadn't been notified about this promotion until the morning of yesterday. With that being said, I take my position very seriously, and I am focused on ushering SWF into a new era of creative prowess."

Lau will be replacing interim head booker Jerry Eisen, the son of SWF owner Richard Eisen. It comes as a shock to some, as typically, head booking positions are usually granted to industry veterans. 29 years of age, Mikey Lau will be the youngest ever head booker for the publicly traded company.

Before his stint at SWF, Mikey Lau wrestled in Southern California based promotion Coastal Zone Championship Wrestling, as well as at SWF's feeder league, RIPW. Peter Michaels was not available for comment.

Notes: I doubt this happens, but Eric has already been a thorn in my ass and I've only booked one show! What better way to push a future top star than to give him a win over the top (force-fed) heel in the company?

I was so going the route of Gilmore vs Rogue for the #1 contendership to be the main event on my first show! Then I saw it here and had to change my card around. Don't want anyone thinking I'm stealing ideas! Looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

(Main Event) The Crippler vs. Zimmy Bumfhole

Notes: This is the year of the ex-Lobster!

Hollywood Bret Starr vs. Joey Morgan

Notes: Starr's ego is bad enough ANYWAY without putting him over JM.

Oliver Kobb vs. Huey Cannonball

Notes: Kobb = Job

Captain Atomic vs. Kurt Laramee

Notes: The FUTURE!

Steven Parker vs. Eric Eisen

Notes: The past. But also the present - he's an Eisen.

Always know your enemy. :) SWF=my enemy. This one is looking great so far in the backstage buildup. Looking forward to seeing your first show.

The Crippler vs. Zimmy Bumfhole

Notes: No doubt on this one. I am loving the new look of Lobster Warrior.

Hollywood Bret Starr vs. Joey Morgan

Notes: Starr should give him a good match but Morgan is the present. Starr is the future.

Oliver Kobb vs. Huey Cannonball

Notes: I had to look up Oliver Kobb. Not a good sign for him. LOL.

Captain Atomic vs. Kurt Laramee

Notes: Atomic will go nuclear on Laramee.

Steven Parker vs. Eric Eisen

Notes: This is Supreme and in the land of the Supreme, nobody beats an Eisen, especially some internet nobody. :)
