[Hype] Joshi Puroresu 2016 Mod

Recommended Posts

Time to update my Joshi Puroresu mod for the first time in...way too long. Which means I'm starting from scratch since so much has changed. Alot of people have retired, promotions have changed, and some bright new wrestlers have debuted. No idea on an ETA, it'll be an excuse to watch alot of matches, go through arenas (RIP Zepp Sendai), fix broadcasters, etc etc. Sooo much to do.

Hah, I was going through the motions to post up a thread for the exact same thing - I've been working on the beginnings in 2013, and just transferred it all to 2016. I hadn't gotten incredibly far on it, but.... yeah, got part of it going!

I remember your mods back in the earlier TEW days and they were quality. Looking forward to this!

Thanks all!

Braodcasters take some creativity. There are only a few channels that show puroresu. NJPW has TV Asahi which is the biggest. After that it's sport channels like G+, GAORA and SAMURAI TV. Samurai TV in particular shows a ton of pro wrestling incluiding smaller promotions. But more recently NicoNico has taken over as the top spot for tiny promotions to go to. It's a video sharing site and everyone from Daijo to Guts World on up to NJPW have made appearances.

Video streaming is clearly seen as the wave of the future. New Japan has NJPW World, Stardom has a subscription channel on youtube, and even Wave are opening up a video streaming service. I may experiment with NicoNico as a sub based channel, very small, very puroresu friendly. I'm not sure if Distribution Internet really covers the impact streaming is having, since the subscription based models are a way of making money (though not much).

Yeah, it's going to be a bit hard to accurately emulate broadcasters right, since subscription services have such a high break even point in the game that putting in Stardom World or the new WAVE Network is going to see the promotions hemorrhaging money, when in reality it's costing them next to nothing to shoot with one camera and upload that footage to Youtube after the show is over, like what Stardom World is doing.

Doing NicoPro will certainly be easier.

Yeah, I might leave try Nico's premium service as a very small sub broadcaster, but I'm not convinced most shows actually make enough from their cut of the fees to make any money, it's really just exposure. But shows steam on the internet and release DVDs and the game handles it as one or the other, not both.

PPVs are more limited. NJPW has put their big shows on PPV, but no one else. Even Noah, who are probably just SkyperfecTV and WOWOW.

I'll see how it works out in the Beta.

I don't think any of the promotions that are on NicoPro actually get anything from their shows airing there - in fact, I believe some actually pay to have their stuff aired in special blocks, which I think can be set up by having all of the revenue go to the broadcaster, and all of the production set through the promotion. Been screwing around with the broadcasters and stuff in games, and noticed that.

EDIT: Was looking at 2013, not 2016, got myself mixed up. Dunno why that feature (costs to channel or company) was removed - probably to simplify the broadcasters end of things.

NOAH isn't even on PPV anymore - I don't think they've had a PPV broadcast since like, 2004-2005? All of their big shows, that I remember, have been on G+. I don't even think their 05' Tokyo Dome show got PPV coverage, just the satellite airing (and a heavily clipped NTV airing, since they had their NTV contract at the time).

That's a typo on my part, posting by phone is treacherous.:) NOAH uses G+ for all their shows. Only NJPW is on PPV. So SkyperfecTV and WOWOW would be enough for the PPV providers.

Broadcasters...done!

Events...done!

Event Names...done! 173 brand new names added.

Tours...bleugh. I'm limited to 12 characters per tour name so no idea what to do yet.

Next, adding more Locations (currently 389) and completely revamping the Worker Name list.

Thanks all!

I'm currently having fun searching for typos or non names in the big name list.

My big question now is this. Are more names better, or is it better to limit the name list to more common names. I can't weight the list to make more common names appear more often. It's pretty much the difference between 150 first names and 300 surnames vs more obscure 300 first names and 800 surnames for joshi wrestlers.

I'd go for more common names TBH, oddly enough it can break immersion a bit for me when I see workers with these really obscure names. Wrestling is an entertainment industry after all, even in Japan, and wrestlers use worked names sometimes.

As an aside, do you think you will ever do a retro mod after you have completed your modern day set? Like 90s Joshi or something?

Keep up the good work!
