USWL: From The Ashes... Tradition Survives!

Recommended Posts

While speculation had been rife for years, regarding what would happen following the retirement of Sam Strong, nobody could have expected the effects to be as seismic as they eventually were. Bought out by “Reverie” (ran by Billionaire Allen Packer), Sam Strong’s sale of USPW in August 2014, changed American Wrestling forever.

http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t112/thetramp_photos/USWL/8b630a90-4fc6-48fc-b49a-abe9235d1595_zpsvex63tkr.jpghttp://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t112/thetramp_photos/USWL/57c12797-571c-4ebe-8b34-a3e0ff8c9e80_zpsy7eswypa.jpg

The Game Changer: Sam Strong sells up!

To many within the business, the changes within USPW and the company’s eventually rise to Number One in the United States, was considered a good thing. Another company able to pay top dollar is undoubtedly good for the talent, but there were some “casualties” of the takeover. These changes saw the removal of a number of long term USPW veterans, including Peter Valentine and Giant Redwood. The end to this “Old Boys Club” mentality was widely praised within the Wrestling community - particularly those online, who have long mocked the company with the famous “LOL USPW” meme.

However, according to Shane Sneer in his latest “shoot” interview, the USPW fans that he comes into contact with miss - as he puts it - the “Real” American Wrestling, that he once had a hand in booking. As 2015 came to an end, Shane Sneer - along with his close friends Giant Redwood and Peter Valentine - grew increasingly vocal in their disgust at current day televised wrestling, feeling that it no longer represents what the fans want. They also began to claim - despite all evidence to the contrary - that they “walked out” of USPW, unhappy with the promotion’s new direction. This change in Shane’s attitude, given that he had previously spoken well of USPW and his time there, led to many suspicions that Shane, Peter and Redwood were attempting to gain publicity for a future business venture. Others suggested that they had simply reached a point in their lives where saying outrageous things for money was the only viable career path.

Speculation was ended as 2016 began, when Shane Sneer announced the formation of the “United States Wrestling League”, a company based out of Atlanta, Georgia which promised a return to the traditions of American Pro-Wrestling. The company, which will be funded by Giant Redwood and Peter Valentine, alongside founder Shane Sneer, will use the tagline “From The Ashes… Tradition Survives” and look to promote the kind of old school, family friendly, patriotic wrestling shows that defined the early eras of United States Pro Wrestling.

Advertised for their first show, entitled “Real American Wrestling”, are appearances from Peter Valentine and Giant Redwood, as well as The Hillbillys and The Nation of Filth. The company will also crown their first “United States Heavyweight Champion” at the inaugural event. Interestingly, the show will take place on a Wednesday and as such will be directly competing with the Television Broadcast of USPW American Wrestling. While expecting people to leave their homes to watch a vastly inferior show on a cold January evening is being largely described as an “idiotic” move, it is a testament to Sneer and co’s mission of providing a real “American Wrestling” alternative. Either that, or he’d grown tired of sitting by the phone waiting for the next local Wrestling Convention to get in touch...

I really like the concept here, I hope backstage stuff is involved. I'd love to see Redwood, Valentine and Sneer screw people over :p

Ford Gumble vs. Texas Pete - United States Heavyweight Championship: Semi Final #1

Pete is well over

American Patriot vs. Paul Steadyfast - United States Heavyweight Championship: Semi Final #2

I hate Steadyfast, dunno why I just do

Bull Wrecker & Genghis Rahn vs. The Hillbillys

Named team goes over, but I feel Rahn deserves more than this

Nathan Coleman vs. Riley McManus

I'd be more inclines to put the young guy over but Coleman could at the stage where he could really help out in the ME

Austin Smooth & Oscar Ozymandias vs. The Nation of Filth

SQUASH! Smooth should get a shot though, he's a solid wrestler, even at his age

Brady Prince vs. Happy Elwood

Elwood has the fact that he's a USPW alumni going for him, Prince is ugh for me, but he is a SCCW alumni so.. lets go Elwood

Crash Lewis vs. Land Mass

Toughie, I dislike both these guys but Land Mass is just a blob so lets go Lewis

Overness is a huge factor, Pete isn't going to let Patriot go over

The first ever United States Wrestling League show opened with the entrance of company founder, Shane Sneer. He would go on to cut a promo, criticising the Televised Wrestling that he is subjected to, singling out USPW for “bastardizing the sport [he] loves”. Sneer promised to bring back
Real
American Wrestling, for real wrestling fans! He then announced that following the Semi-Finals, tonight USWL will crown their first “United States Heavyweight Champion”. This led into the opening match of the night.
[C+]

Match #1:
In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling,
Texas Pete defeated Ford Gumble
in 10:21 by pinfall with a Lone Star Drop.
[D+]

After the match, Shane Sneer informed the audience that there had been a delay, and as a result American Patriot’s opponent isn’t at the building yet. He promises that the other Semi-Final will take place later in the night.
[C+]

Match #2:
In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but terrible wrestling,
Land Mass defeated Crash Lewis
in 3:45 by pinfall with a Ten Ton Avalanche.
[F+]

Before their match, The Hillbilly promoted the United States Heavyweight Championship main event and leant support to their “friend” American Patriot.
[E]

Match #3:
In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling,
The Hillbillys defeated Bull Wrecker and Genghis Rahn
in 7:58 when Genghis Rahn intentionally got disqualified while fighting Al The Hillbilly. Rahn had refused to stop attacking Al, despite him being in the corner.
[E+]

After the match, Pete The Hillbilly attempted to help his partner, only to be attacked by Bull Wrecker. Rahn and Bull then destroyed The Hillbillys, leaving them laying in the ring.
[E]

Match #4:
In a decent match,
Happy Elwood defeated Brady Prince in 8:07
by pinfall with a fast roll up.
[D-]

Following the match, Whistler came out and shook hands with Happy Elwood. Whistler would then cut a promo promoting the United States Heavyweight Championship match, claiming that whoever wins, he is confident they will do their country proud! If he had to choose before hand, he’d have backed the man who loves the USA just as much as he does, American Patriot! Before he can continue, he is cut off by Peter Valentine and Giant Redwood.

The two USPW alumni run down Whistler saying that his support means nothing. Nobody cares about Whistler, but they’ve both still got it… they threaten to prove it to Whistler, but American Patriot comes out and tells them to back off. They leave the ring, but warn American Patriot that they will be joining Whistler at ringside for tonight’s Main Event!
[C-]

Match #5:
In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling,
American Patriot defeated Paul Steadyfast
in 12:39 by pinfall with a Patriot Drop.
[D+]

Following a brief celebration, American Patriot left the ring. Soon after, Nathan Coleman appeared, carrying a Japanese flag with him. He is joined by a huge man, who is later referred to as Annihilus.

Coleman denounces the United States, saying that his time in the far east opened his eyes to the evils of the USA. His friend, Annihilus feels the same way and as such refuses to even learn the language of this living hell. Annihilus then speaks a few words in Finnish, being cut off by Riley McManus. McManus tells Nathan Coleman that here in the US, he’s free to say what he pleases… but Riley doesn’t have to agree with him! Riley stands up for the United States, telling Nathan Coleman that he’s lucky to have been born in a country that gives him the opportunity to do what he loves!
[D-]

Match #6:
In a decent match,
Nathan Coleman defeated Riley McManus
in 9:33 by pinfall with a Pioneer Twist after a distraction from Annihilus.
[D]

Match #7:
In a decent match,
The Nation Of Filth defeated Oscar Ozymandias and Austin
Smooth in 8:12 when Grunt defeated Austin Smooth by pinfall with a Dust Buster. This was following a failed attempt to cheat from Oscar, which humorously backfired.
[E+]

It was then time for the Main Event, and “American Wrestling Legends” Peter Valentine, Giant Redwood and Whistler took their seats at ringside.

Main Event:
In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling,
Texas Pete defeated American Patriot
in 14:25 by pinfall. During the match, the official was knocked out. This resulted in interference from Genghis Rahn and Bull Wrecker. The pair took American Patriot out with a Double Chokeslam. This allowed Texas Pete to pin American Patriot. With no referee available, Shane Sneer got up from the Announcer’s Desk and counted the victory.
Texas Pete wins the USWL United States Heavyweight Championship
.
[D+]

Despite the “legends” presence at ringside, it was Shane Sneer who presented Texas Pete with the United States Heavyweight Championship. Having taken a beating from American Patriot - who had a much shorter break between his matches - Texas Pete had to be helped to his feet by Genghis Rahn and Bull Wrecker. The show ended with Shane Sneer raising the arm of Texas Pete.

As the show closed, it became apparent that the four men in the ring would be aligned going forward

Show Notes

  • It became clear during the opening match of the night that Texas Pete was intoxicated. The discovery was deemed too late to change the booking.
  • Before the event, Land Mass announced he would retire from in-ring competition within the next few months. Shane Sneer decided to give the veteran one final run, before he hangs up his boots.
  • Advertised for his considerable “name value”, Genghis Rahn’s physical limitations affected the booking of his match. Having been one of the main draws, Rahn’s only involvement in his match was to enter the ring and get Disqualified. This hurt the match, despite Bull Wrecker’s best attempts to carry his team’s workload.
  • The angle featuring Whistler, American Patriot, Peter Valentine and Giant Redwood was largely unscripted. American Patriot and Peter Valentine held the segment together, while Giant Redwood really struggled, stumbling over his words on multiple occasions and generally being slow to retort.
  • Nathan Coleman and Riley McManus showed great chemistry during their match, working off each other remarkably well and producing a much better than expected match.
  • The finish to the Tag Team match featuring The Nation of Filth came as a result of a “miscommunication” from Oscar Ozymandias and Austin Smooth. While this was the booked finish, their timing as as team was off and they didn’t work well together. On a number of occasion, Oscar got in the way of Austin Smooth, hurting the match.
  • To protect the two men who had already been in a match earlier in the night, the Championship match was “overbooked” with multiple instance of interference. During the match, Texas Pete began to get tired, and the interference helped him complete the match. Having sat in the back for over an hour, it appeared that some of Pete’s drunkenness had worn off for the Main Event.

    Reaction:

  • Having not previously been particularly high on Riley McManus, it is believed that he could now feature in an extended program with Nathan Coleman, due to their impressive match on the first show.
  • Oscar Ozymandias and Austin Smooth’s potential tag team will be abandoned, due to their lacklustre performance.
  • Having put the Championship on Texas Pete, there are worries within the company regarding his apparent alcohol issues. Due to the hectic nature of the first event, Shane Sneer was not aware of Texas Pete’s state, or his well publicised issues that led to his release from TCW. As a result of Sneer’s commentary duties, Archie Judge was largely responsible for running the backstage of the show. It was decided to stick with the original plan, while they tried to get Pete to “sober up” before the Main Event. This appeared to work, but Ford Gumble was particularly vocal about Pete’s intoxication, feeling the match could’ve put him at risk of serious injury.
  • Following some lacklustre in-ring performances, it is generally being agreed upon that the angles and the spectacle of familiar names is currently the draw for the company. Despite a couple of good matches being featured, this could be a concern down the line.
  • Annihilus was a locally based talent, brought in at the last minute. Impressed by his size, it is believed that the 7ft Finnish-born brawler will be offered regular work with the promotion. His association with Nathan Coleman is designed to help the Giant improve in the ring. It is believed that Sneer sees Annihilus as a future Main Event level heel.
  • A new stable has been established, called “The Sneer Corp.”, it currently features Shane Sneer, Texas Pete, Genghis Rahn and Bull Wrecker. It is of course, the company's revival of Sneer’s successful stable that he ran in USPW and which was formed in SCCW.
  • Due to his globetrotting escapades, American Patriot - who also works in Japan and NYCW - appeared to be developing fatigue. This follows a busy month, filled with travel, during which he averaged 3 shows per week. It is believed that the company wish to build around American Patriot as "figurehead" long term, provided he sticks around and remains healthy.
  • Following Shane Sneer’s promo at the open of the show, the company have officially declared “hostility” towards USPW. Shane Sneer, along with Giant Redwood and Peter Valentine, were reportedly unhappy with their treatment following Sam Strong’s departure from the company.

    End of Month:

  • In their first month in operation, USWL made a profit of $3,241.
  • USPW dropped down to Cult at the end of January. Whether this is a result of USWL criticising the promotion in front of 600 people is currently unknown. This has not stopped Shane Sneer from taking the credit for the decline.

USWL presents... Real American Wrestling #2

Thanks for the comments. I've booked a bit in advance and there's some interesting incidents coming up. February was the quietest month so far however.

The Sneer Corporation opened the show with the official United States Heavyweight Championship presentation. As Shane Sneer handed the Championship to Texas Pete, American Patriot came out.

American Patriot was furious about the events of last month’s show, saying that he wanted a rematch against Texas Pete tonight! Standing behind his associates, Shane Sneer told American Patriot that he would have to earn it, against Bull Wrecker! Texas Pete will also be in non-title action… against Happy Elwood. The Sneer Corporation laughed at the prospect of Elwood facing their Champion. But up first, Genghis Rahn was in action… against Crash Lewis!
[C]

Match #1: Genghis Rahn beats Crash Lewis
in 5:09 having sadistically toyed with him throughout the contest.
[E]

Match #2:
In a decent match,
The Nation Of Filth defeated Paul Steadyfast and Brady Prince
in 8:22 when Grunt defeated Brady Prince by pinfall with a Dust Buster.
[D-]

Coming down to the ring with a Japanese Flag, Nathan Coleman was once again critical of the United States, championing the culture that he experienced in the Far East. He also talked up the superior continent of Europe, where his friend Annihilus is from. As he continued to run down the USA and dubbed his team “The Imperial House”, Ford Gumble came out and told him to watch his mouth. Ford Gumble demanded a match and got one… against the 7ft Finnish monster!
[D]

Match #3:
In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling,
Ford Gumble defeated Annihilus
in 6:54 when Annihilus was disqualified when Nathan Coleman ran in and attacked Ford Gumble.
[D-]

As The Imperial House continued to attack Ford Gumble, Whistler made the save and claimed this wasn’t over. He declared that he would have Ford Gumble’s back next month to take The Imperial House down!
[D-]

Match #4:
In a decent match,
Riley McManus defeated Austin Smooth
in 8:10 by pinfall with a Slingshot Suplex.
[D+]

Peter Valentine and Giant Redwood made their way to the ring for an “uncensored” promo on the state of the wrestling business. Peter and Redwood spoke for eight minutes, unscripted, informing the audience what grinds their gears in Professional Wrestling. Commenting particularly harshly about USPW, the two men spoke highly of Shane Sneer and his attempt to save the business from itself. These people may not realise it, but they have him to thank for everything they see tonight!
[C]

Before his match with Texas Pete, Happy Elwood was interviewed in the ring by Shane Sneer. Happy Elwood said that he may be the underdog, but he will fight until he has nothing left. He is from the United States, the land of opportunity and tonight he has an opportunity to live the American Dream! If he could beat Texas Pete he might get a Championship shot and that has been his lifelong dream. From here, the interview became less about asking questions and more about Sneer belittling Elwood’s chances and generally running him down. In Sneer’s eyes, Happy Elwood is merely a punching bag for Texas Pete.
[C-]

Match #5:
In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling,
Texas Pete defeated Happy Elwood
in 7:37 by pinfall with a Lone Star Drop. As conveyed on commentary by Shane Sneer, Happy Elwood ran Texas Pete much closer than expected.
[D]

Before their match, The Hillbillys told American Patriot they have his back. If The Sneer Corporation get involved, then they’ll be there to even the odds!
[E+]

Match #6:
In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling,
The Hillbillys defeated Land Mass and Oscar Ozymandias
in 7:53 when Al The Hillbilly defeated Oscar Ozymandias by pinfall with a Southern Leg Drop.
[E+]

After the match, The Hillbillys were once again attacked by Bull Wrecker and Genghis Rahn. This time they were particularly brutal and the pair were helped out of the ringside area. Bull Wrecker then made it clear he was ready for American Patriot!
[E+]

Match #6:
In a decent match,
American Patriot defeated Bull Wrecker
in 14:05 by pinfall with a Tombstone Piledriver. During the match we also had Genghis Rahn run in and attack Patriot. Despite the two on one situation, American Patriot overcame the odds, fighting of “The Enforcers” of the Sneer Corporation!
[C-]

Having dealt with The Sneer Corporation, American Patriot took a microphone and thanked the people for coming out. He said that last month didn’t go as planned, but he promises one way or another, the United States Heavyweight Champion will return to a worthy Champion. Patriot tells the people that he is going to give this great nation, the Champion it deserves!

Show Notes

  • It soon became apparent that Texas Pete was once again intoxicated, during the opening segment. The decision was made for his match to go ahead, despite some reservations.
  • Peter Valentine and Giant Redwood’s “shoot” on the business was completely unscripted, and it’s believed that the pair enjoyed the freedom to go and express themselves. It certainly showed in the ring, as they bounced off each other very well.
  • Despite being protected in a Tag Team match, Land Mass struggled to complete the match and was a weak link in regards to his in-ring performance.
  • Following the show, it was announced that next month American Patriot was scheduled to face Texas Pete.

    Reaction:
  • Texas Pete’s intoxication was once again a major talking point backstage, with some members of the roster unhappy with the decision to send him out to wrestle. Happy Elwood, who faced Texas Pete, was particularly vocal, complaining that he could have been seriously hurt by the company’s negligence.
  • During the show, Peter Valentine and Giant Redwood made a number of comments regarding USPW and their owner Allen Packer, that even Shane Sneer felt went slightly too far. Despite the audience being largely made up of those who aren’t interested in the backstage “politics”, Sneer was worried that the potentially libelous comments could get back to the company’s legal department. Luckily for Shane, all signs appear to suggest that Allen Packer is completely unaware of the company’s existence, and when asked for his opinion on the “United States Wrestling League”, is reported to have replied “maybe that’s something we could implement in the future. Thank you for your feedback.”
  • Having offered Land Mass a final run before retirement, Shane Sneer is believed to be regretting the decision immediately. This is a result of Land Mass’ inability to complete half of an 8 minute Tag Team match without becoming exhausted. The 52 year old is in such bad shape, that it is believed he will be limited to short squash matches in future.
  • Once again having the best match of the night, American Patriot was praised by Shane Sneer in front of the entire locker room. The only competitor singled out, it is believed that coupled with Texas Pete’s alcohol problems, the company are ready to hotshot a previously planned slow build towards the Championship for Patriot.

USWL presents... Real American Wrestling #3

Some weird formatting stuff, dunno how to sort it. I'm with you on that Jaded, I even had to double check it after you said. Unscripted Peter Valentine has been gold for me. I'm just going to let him keep ranting and "shooting".

<hr>

Pre-Show Notes

  • Before the show, having once again arrived at the venue intoxicated, USWL United States Heavyweight Champion Texas Pete was sent home by Archie Judge. Archie is heavily involved in putting together the matches for USWL, and judged that Texas Pete was in no fit state to compete. Shane Sneer - who is often detached from the talent on show day - gives full control to Archie Judge when it comes to backstage incidents, and is said to fully support the decision. How he will deal Texas Pete and the company’s only Championship title remains to be seen.

The usually smug Shane Sneer comes down to the ring with his head down. He is carrying the USWL United States Heavyweight Championship. He requests a microphone from ringside and tells the audience that due to actions out of their control, the man who he hand picked to be
his
Champion is not here. Shane Sneer says that the issue will be dealt with, but tonight American Patriot will
not
receive a Heavyweight Championship match. That match will be delayed until a later date.

American Patriot comes out and cuts an impassioned promo, stating his belief that the United States Heavyweight Championship should be vacated. Patriot says that he’s feeling banged up because he’s been travelling all over the world, and despite how he feels, he’s here and he’s representing this company, because that’s what these fans deserve. If Pete feels the need to “self medicate”, then he doesn’t deserve to be in this ring. These fans pay their hard earned money to make this possible and they deserve better! Not just from Pete, but they deserve better from Sneer! That Championship that he holds in his hands represents the United States, and that means that it represents everybody in this building. When Texas Pete disrespected that, he should’ve been fired on the spot! Shane Sneer tells American Patriot that he’s not wrong, but he will not vacate the Championship. Tonight, since American Patriot is so keen to give the fans their money’s worth, he will face two opponents for the price of one tonight, when he faces The Enforcers of The Sneer Corporation, Genghis Rahn and Bull Wrecker!
[C+]

Match #1:
In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling,
Ford Gumble defeated Annihilus
in 6:54 when Annihilus was disqualified when Nathan Coleman ran in and attacked Ford Gumble.
[E]

Having caused the DQ, Nathan Coleman and Annihilus continued to attack Ford Gumble. As the attack continued and Coleman began to wave his Japanese Flag, Whistler ran down to the ring, making the save.

He claimed to be sick of The Imperial House’s disrespect of the USA. He told them both to get back to the ring and face them, right now!
[E]

Match #2:
In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but terrible wrestling,
The Imperial House defeated Ford Gumble and Whistler
in 6:13 when Nathan Coleman defeated Whistler by pinfall with a Pioneer Twist. In terms of in-ring work, Ford Gumble was head and shoulders above everyone else.
[E+]

The Imperial House stand tall.
[D-]

<hr>Oscar Ozymandias cuts a promo saying that he is better than Tag Team Wrestling, he is a superstar in his own right. Whether it’s entertaining the fans, or beating people up, Ozzy is the man!
[D]

Match #3:
In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling,
Oscar Ozymandias defeated Crash Lewis
in 5:35 by pinfall with an Oz Breaker.
[E]

The Hillbillys were scheduled to face Genghis Rahn and Bull Wrecker, but now they don’t have a match. No matter what, they want to fight for these people tonight, so they’re calling out anybody who wants some.

Peter Valentine and Giant Redwood come out, surprising everybody by “saving the day”. They tell The Hillbillys if they want a fight, then they need look no further.
[D]

Match #4:
In a a bout that could only be considered a “match” due to the bell ringing at the start, Giant Redwood and Peter Valentine drew with The Hillbillys in 8:21 when the match descended into chaos.
[E]

After the bell rang, the brawl spilled all around the ringside area, until the four men fought out of sight.
[D]

<hr>Before their match, Riley McManus stood waiting for Austin Smooth. Austin showed zero respect to Riley, slapping him in the face before the bell.
[D-]

Match #5:
In a decent match,
Riley McManus defeated Austin Smooth
in 5:44 by pinfall with a Slingshot Suplex.
[E]

Match #6:
In a decent match,
Paul Steadyfast defeated Happy Elwood
in 11:58 by pinfall with a Slingshot Suplex.
[D-]

Brady Prince cut a promo ahead of his match praising Land Mass. He refers to him as a legend, saying that those who don’t consider him as such are either so young they can’t remember, or they’re so old they can’t remember. Tonight, when they destroy The Nation of Filth, those memories will come flooding back.
D+

Match #7:
In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling,
The Nation Of Filth defeated Land Mass and Brady Prince
in 5:33 when Grunt defeated Land Mass by pinfall with a Dust Buster. Land Mass was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.
[D-]

As American Patriot awaited his opponents, Shane Sneer took a microphone. He told American Patriot that he knows what he’s been through, and he promises… if American Patriot wins tonight, he will “get what [he] deserves”. AmPat is suspicious of Sneer’s wording.
[C]

Match #8:
In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling,
American Patriot defeated The Enforcers
in a Handicap match in 14:19 when American Patriot defeated Bull Wrecker by pinfall with a Backdrop Driver. Having spent most of the match in defensive mode, Patriot mounted a superhuman comeback, beating down both opponents before picking up the win. American Patriot carried the match in terms of in-ring performance.
[D]

After the match, American Patriot took a microphone. Clearly exhausted, he told the fans that he knows that they deserve better than this, and it’s his job to ensure they get it! Texas Pete might not give a damn about USWL, the Championship or these people, but The American Patriot does! They are here on the ground floor, working to make this company great. Starting a new wrestling company is hard enough, without people like Texas Pete trying to burn it to the ground before they’ve even begun! He’s warning Shane Sneer and whoever is with him. Next month, American Patriot takes his Championship shot, and he takes the Championship back to the people. He vows, for everybody who cares about
real
American Wrestling, he will not give up until he
is
the United States Heavyweight Champion!

Show Notes

  • Both American Patriot promos were unscripted and designed to allow the character to express Brandon Smith’s genuine feeling about the situation.
  • Whistler returned to the ring in a limited capacity, teaming with Ford Gumble. It marked his first match since his “retirement” in August 2014.
  • During the match/brawl between The Hillbillys and Valentine and Redwood, it was clear that all four men were quickly growing tired. This was particularly true for Giant Redwood.
  • Some within the company felt the match between Happy Elwood and Paul Steadyfast was oddly placed on the card. As a result it hurt the match and took the crowd with it.
  • In what could be his last USWL match, Land Mass struggled through limited involvement. However, he did work well with Brady Prince.

    Reaction:
  • Having travelled back from Japan to be at the show, Brandon Smith was said to be furious with the Texas Pete incident. Given the potential the company sees in American Patriot as a future “figurehead”, Sneer will do everything in his power to ensure Brandon is happy in the company.
  • Given the potential for a fairly low amount of workrate going into some USWL matches, Shane Sneer has been able to convince some of his “retired” contacts to come out of retirement. Proving their services as “nostalgia acts”. The set-up allows the likes of Whistler, Peter Valentine and Giant Redwood to return to the ring limited physical pressure. Due to the card reshuffle, Peter offered his service for the night. It is believed that Giant Redwood was less than enthused about returning to the ring, having not kept in ring shape since retirement.
  • Whistler vocally opposed the booking of his match with The Imperial House. He believed that the fans wanted to see their fellow Americans win. Archie was able to get Whistler to agree to the match, promising him a long term pay off.
  • It is believed that Shane Sneer, Archie Judge, Peter Valentine and Giant Redwood will this month hold talks regarding the future of Texas Pete. Many believe that the only reason the Championship wasn’t vacated is because the company is worried about the lineage and are hoping for a sober Texas Pete to show up to drop the title.

    End of Month:
  • In their third month in operation, USWL made a loss of $4,050.
  • The third installment of the “Wednesday Night War” saw another victory for USPW. USWL: Real American Wrestling was seen by 704, while around 4,650,000 tuned into USPW’s American Wrestling. For those keeping score, the head to head ranking currently stand at 3-0 to USPW.

USWL presents... Real American Wrestling #4

Pre-Show Notes

  • Some backstage noted the absence of Giant Redwood at the show. Usually an overbearing presence, the Locker Room was said to be a much quieter place, but no explanation has been given for his absence. It has however been confirmed that Redwood - who was one of the United States Wrestling League’s founders - will no longer be associated the company, ending a 15 year working relationship with Shane Sneer. It is believed that the decision to leave was made by Redwood, with Sneer keen for him to continue his role within the company as a Road Agent and on-screen talent.

  • It was also noted that Oscar Ozymandias has began to look slightly flabby around his waistline. This led to a number of jokes backstage, with wrestlers making a running joke of saying “[insert bald celebrity/historical figure] has let himself go”.

  • Following reports earlier in the month, the Locker Room confirmed the story of a falling out between Nation of Filth members, Grunt and Stink. While the two are said to not be on bad terms, it is believe that they have stopped travelling together and may consider looking to singles careers, despite their marketability as a tag team.

American Patriot opened the show, cutting a promo regarding Texas Pete. He said that while the Champion is here, and will defend his title, it won’t be against American Patriot. He furiously called out Shane Sneer on commentary, saying that he deserves the shot after Sneer screwed him over. Texas Pete let the people down last month and Patriot wants to teach him a lesson.

Happy Elwood then came out and revealed he was the challenger to Texas Pete’s Championship. He said that it was a dream come true and while he’s with AmPat all the way, he has to let him have his opportunity. Elwood says that if he fails, he fails and American Patriot will be here to take the title next time, but after every set back he’s taken in the past three months, he just wants one shot! American Patriot agrees and as he goes to leave, Sneer tells him his match is up next!
[C]

As Brady Prince made his way to the ring, he spoke of his history with Sneer and told American Patriot he should have more respect for him!
[E+]

Match #1:
In a decent match,
American Patriot defeated Brady Prince
in 7:31 by pinfall with a Tombstone Piledriver.
[D-]

American Patriot then took a microphone again and said that he knows The Sneer Corporation will try to screw Happy Elwood, but he knows how much it means to his friend. Therefore, if Sneer gets involved tonight, so will American Patriot! He says there’s no way he is going to watch Elwood gets screwed!

Peter Valentine arrived and cut a condescending promo, telling American Patriot that everybody gets screwed, that’s life. Valentine tells AmPat to stop trying to be such a nice guy and realise the fact that the only way to not get screwed, is to screw everyone else!
[C]

Match #2:
In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling,
Paul Steadyfast defeated Crash Lewis
in 6:50 by submission.
[D-]

Before their match, The Enforcers (Bull Wrecker and Genghis Rahn) told American Patriot that they don’t take kindly to threats. Their job is to ensure the safety and security of The Sneer Corporation and because of his words, they’re going to have to take him out!
[D]

After the match, there was a small argument between The Nation of Filth.
[E+]

Nathan Coleman cut a promo in the ring, telling the people that The Imperial House is growing by the month, he claimed that they would not be stopped, while waving a Japanese Flag!
[D+]

Match #4:
In a decent match,
Nathan Coleman defeated Riley McManus
in 12:15 by pinfall with a Pioneer Twist following interference from Shinji Takano.

During the match we also had Annihilus run in and attack McManus, but the big man was fought off. Shinji then debuted, coming through the audience and taking McManus out with a Roundhouse Kick!
[D-]

After the match, a three on one attack began. Shinji, Annihilus and Coleman destroyed Riley McManus, until The Hillbillys made the save.

Al and Pete then demanded that Nathan’s “stooges” came to the ring and fought them!
[E]

Match #5:
In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling,
The Hillbillys defeated Shinji Takano and Annihilus (of The Imperial House)
in 8:12 when Al The Hillbilly defeated Shinji Takano by pinfall with a Southern Legdrop.
[D-]

After the match, The Hillbillys were once again punished for their support of American Patriot, with Rahn and Wrecker - The Enforcer - attacking them from behind after their win.
[D]

Oscar Ozymandias cut a promo on his way to the ring, during which he tried to talk himself up, but constantly botched the lines. This led to Oscar making himself look foolish, multiple times
[D+]

Match #6:
In a decent match,
Ford Gumble defeated Oscar Ozymandias
in 10:25 by pinfall with a Savate Kick.
[D]

Ahead of the Main Event, Whistler made an appearance. He announced that he would be in Elwood’s corner for his United States Heavyweight Championship match!

Match #7:
In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling,
Happy Elwood defeated Texas Pete
in 12:06 by pinfall after interference from American Patriot. During the match we also saw Land Mass run in and attack Elwood, and Bull Wrecker also attack Elwood. It was Bull’s destruction of Whistler that served as the final straw, causing American Patriot to come down to the ring and destroy The Sneer Corporation. Hitting Pete with a Tombstone, Patriot laid Elwood on top of the Champion.
Happy Elwood wins the USWL United States Heavyweight title.
[D-]

After the match, American Patriot raised the hand of the tired Happy Elwood. Barely able to stand, Elwood was jumped by Bull Wrecker. This started a brawl between American Patriot and Bull Wrecker which ended with the appearance of Genghis Rahn, who had avoided the melee.

Rahn swung the chair at American Patriot, knocking him down, before Chokeslamming him on the outside of the ring. Land Mass then laid boots into American Patriot on the outside, while Genghis Rahn turned to look at Shane Sneer at ringside.
[D]

As Happy Elwood made it to his feet, Shane Sneer left his commentary position and took a microphone. He told Happy Elwood that he would be defending his United States Heavyweight Championship against Genghis Rahn. But that match isn’t going to happen next month… it’s going to happen now!
[C+]

Match #8:
In what could barely be called a match, Genghis Rahn hit a Big Boot to Happy Elwood, followed by a Chokeslam.
Genghis Rahn beat Happy Elwood
in 0:24 by pinfall.
Genghis Rahn wins the USWL United States Heavyweight title.
[D]

After the match, Bull Wrecker raised the hand of Genghis Rahn. By now, former Champion Texas Pete had made it to his feet.

He looked to Shane Sneer and then to Genghis Rahn asking what is going on. Shane Sneer took his microphone again and said “It’s Over! Finish Him!” Genghis Rahn then grabbed Texas Pete by the neck and Chokeslamed him in the middle of the ring! Shane Sneer entered the ring, standing over Texas Pete and Happy Elwood, with his new United States Heavyweight Champion!
[C]

  • Show Notes

  • Texas Pete was said to be unhappy at the booking of his match, feeling that despite his issues he has been performing to a high standard. It was pointed out to him that he was sent home last month and didn’t perform, but he wasn’t having it.

  • Whistler and Happy Elwood were a poor pairing, with their interactions not feeling natural at all.

  • Shinji Takano is a Japanese rookie, currently on an excursion in the United States. Known in his homeland as “AVALANCHE Takano”, he also works in IPW. Takano is the first addition to the company’s initial roster.

  • During the scheduled Championship match, Happy Elwood was injured by Texas Pete. He managed to complete the match, but was in a bad way following the show.

  • The Nation of Filth’s descension followed an offer from Shane Sneer to give them both potential singles runs.

  • This month show marked the end of Land Mass’ current contract with USWL. Having retired from in-ring competition, it is believed that he will leave the promotion, unless something changes over the next two weeks.

    Reaction:

  • Happy Elwood was said to be furious after his match with Texas Pete. Having previously spoken of his unhappiness with sharing the ring with a intoxicated performer, his fears were proved correct, as Pete dropped him dangerously a number of time. Elwood claims that one of those incident caused his neck injury.

  • With the addition of Shinji Takano to “The Imperial House”, Shane Sneer was looking to add legitimacy to his “Japanese” stable. The group had previously consisted of an American and a Finnish Giant.

  • Having made the decision to take the Championship from him, Shane Sneer did not inform Pete that he would be Chokeslammed by Genghis Rahn ahead of time. Already unhappy with his booking, feeling he was being unfairly punished, Pete informed Archie Judge that he would not be returning to the promotion again in the foreseeable future. Given his booking, it appears Texas Pete was jumped before he was pushed. Having been crowned the company’s first Champion in January, the three months that followed have resulted in a remarkable fall from grace for Pete, who will undoubtedly have trouble finding work in any respected promotion again.

    End of Month:

  • In their third month in operation, USWL made a loss of
    $5,700
    .

  • The forth installment of the “Wednesday Night War” saw another victory for USPW. USWL: Real American Wrestling was seen by
    749
    , while around
    4,600,000
tuned into USPW’s American Wrestling. For those keeping score, the head to head ranking currently stand at
    4-0
to USPW. Shane Sneer was quick to note that the company had once again closed the gap on USPW.

Great shows so far, it really feels like the old USPW ran by Sneer. It's kinda weird to have AmPat dishing out Tombstones, it seems to be a rather risky move for this old-shool environment, but I might be nitpicking.

Gotta say that a poor backstage area makes an entertaining diary. :D
