Gimmick success randomisation

Recommended Posts

Either I am terribly unlucky, or the random element of any new gimmick errs on the side of failure.

I have only once received a good gimmick and instead mainly get the agent note 'worker 1 has debuted his/her new gimmick. It is rated as awful/poor'

This happens regardless of whether it is the workers default gimmick, whether they are 90 for cocky gimmicks, or if they have ever used the gimmick successfully previously.

I understand that gimmicks improve over time, but I have half a roster full of low morale workers because of a poor new gimmick.

Is there no way to make the randomisation of new gimmicks less like rolling a dice and actually base it on the workers skills?

Just a few simple things... are your gimmicks matching the style of product you're putting out?

Are you doing subtle/complex gimmicks in a product that has negative synergy with them? What type of gimmicks are expecting in the product you're using?

Yeah, the biggest reason for this is the contradictory product definitions. Look out for things like "Expect all wrestlers to have a gimmick" and "Won't be keen on gimmicks." There's a couple others, but that's just an example.

The other reason is bad luck.

Gimmick ratings can also get naturally better over time AND there is the ability to tweak gimmicks too, which can improve them even more. Just because a gimmick isn't getting five stars out of the gate doesn't mean it won't get there with a little time and effort. :)

The gimmicks are matching the product and the worker. Whether I am playing as WWE, or Lucha Underground or Ring of Honor. I am pitching my gimmicks at the right audience and the right workers and they are just always getting an "awful" or "poor" ratings.

Even the default gimmicks for the worker. For example, I debuted Kurt Angle in WWE and he is apparently "awful" at the Olympic Gold medalist gimmick he has been playing for years.

I am hoping that it is an issue with the converted data, but I don't think it is.

The issue is with the "roll the die" success method for new gimmicks. There must be some way to take a workers skill or competence in a specific style of gimmick into consideration. Why have the actual ratings for a worker in cocky, or legitimate, or brute? It means absolutely nothing.

Thanks for all your help guys. The gimmicks suit my product and the worker. My user talents are just default 5 in everything.

I have tried so much since the demo came out to like this game, but there is too much wrong with it. I apologise to Adam for being vocal about me not getting along with TEW2016, but TEW2013 was just brilliant and some of the changes made this year make the game unplayable.

I'm going back to TEW2013.

One of the mods can delete this post as and when.

Another thing is the gimmick audition feature for TEW2016. I am told that a certain worker would be great for a gimmick, then when it debuts...again, awful!

I changed Khoklov's gimmick as it suited him, it debuted as Average but with each show he appears he seems to improve with it so it needs patience.

Personally I really like the new gimmick system. In 13 I would never run a company with gimmicks but in 16 I adjusted my product to allow for them and I'm really liking the changes. I noticed most of my gimmicks don't immediately catch but they do keep improving rather quickly. I have a low creativity rating and high leadership and really focus on keeping my roaster happy so I can ride it out when a gimmick flops and wait for them to improve.

Yeah, from what I've experienced and from the way the in-game help is worded it seems that gimmick ratings are completely random now and don't even take the company's product nor the worker's strengths into account. I debuted a worker as a babyface, but forgot to change his default arrogant heel gimmick. It got a "very good" on the worker's debut, who has a 92 in that gimmick category, but the point remains.

I love almost everything about the new gimmick system: The lifespans, the upper and lower limit, the tweaking and everything that comes with it strategically. But the fact that gimmick ratings are completely random is just wrong. I hope this gets fixed in a future patch as it's simply unrealistic and makes choosing gimmicks basically redundant: Why would I choose a particular gimmick over another if the rating is totally random?
