Are companies too aggressive at buying out their competition?

Recommended Posts

I've been playing through derekb's CV97 and am in Jan 98 ... so far the following companies have be bought out ...

by SWF ...

CGC, RPW, XFW

by BHOTWG

5SSW, BBW, GCG

Now, don't get me wrong ... I love that the AI is more aggressive but this seems too much. Not only have 6 successful companies been lost in a year, I also just don't see the logic. A company should buy out competition only if they feel threatened by them or they have a lot to gain from the sail. When it comes to the latter ... in every single instance the worker contracts are not retained so spending all this money on buying out a non-threatening company just seems pointless.

Thoughts?

It also gives the company who does the buying a bit of a boost to momentum and prestige, while allowing them to absorb popularity from them too. The SWF probably gained a fair bit from buying out CGC, though not so much from the others...

That said, that's a bad first year in CV97. I'm wondering if the sponsorship changes introduced in the patches have been particularly painful to them as I don't think I ever saw CGC, 5SSW or GCG die in the first year before. Though they are all companies that could struggle if things went badly for them due to their contracts and fairly low company size....

In my current watcher game, by end of 1998 BHOTWG had bought and disbanded every other Japanese fed except Hinote Dojo.</p>

I know there was an issue with touring companies incurring major expenses on their off months which has been fixed... have you simmed anything in the last 2 days where this has happened? I'll run some sims over the net couple of days, may have to keep asking Adam to tweak things if the numbers are too rough.

Not just touring companies; SWF have bought out several North American feds - RPW, CGC and XFW.</p>

XFW and RPW have often fallen victim to being bought out, which I have no problem with as it falls pretty close to canon. In early testing CGC used to die a LOT due to being at the low end of cult, which is why I moved them to being regional. They were always pretty stable there though, but if they grow to cult they do end up in a tough spot and they do have the talent to make it there.

Japan was rarely ever that rough though... definitely going to have to see what can be done about that as BBW are the only ones who would generally fall in my sims due to the high price of their top guys.... something GCG used to be strong enough to handle and 5SSW didn't need to worry about too much.

<p>Hi Derek - are you saying this is a mod balancing issue rather than a general game one?</p><p> </p><p>

It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has noticed this using the default data.</p>

<p>Cool - I'll look forward to a future patch then <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

And don't think I was knocking you mod - it's amazing and always my go-to.</p>

I started a CV97 database for my RTG and by 1999, 4C was the only company in Canada (It's the beginning of 2001 and no other company has opened in Canada and 4C almost went bankrupt once.) and Japan only had BHOTWG/Hinote (But two new companies opened in 2000). Lots of Canadians are moving to the U.S. (The DeColts are in CZCW and Dan Stone runs NEW for SWF) but there's so much talent that is just wasting away with all the buyouts and it makes me sad when I see 433 wrestlers in the Power 500.
