Just as it seemed Thomas would tap out however, Cameron Jones came rushing in with a huge clothesline on the back of Threepwood sending both men tumbling. I've just quickly caught up with this and it's a great read. Some really good, simple, straight forward booking that is well written. The Remus/Gauge/Greed story is developing really nicely and you've built up a really competitive tag division ahead of the Sam Keith Classic. KUTGW!

On a podcast episode of the Rip It Off in 2016, Rip gave Sam Keith a hard time concerning the Sam Keith Classic. The whole idea behind someone not known as a tag team wrestler hosting this tournament

 

“The reality,” Rip remarked on the podcast, “is that you saw how well my tournament was received and you tried to rip it off, no pun intended. And then you wanted to make it bigger so you made it a tag champ. Do you even know what a tag match is Rip?”

 

“I was a two time champ Rip!” Sam replied as Rip chortled.

 

“Oh I’m sure you were, you made sure to put yourself over too?”

 

The two men laughed in this brief segment, and while it was odd a man who wasn’t known as a tag worker was the mastermind behind the tournament, it worked. It elevated tag team wrestling to a point that it seemed important in those first few years, however it truly became a tournament of tag teams after the 2014-2015 debacles.

 

“Jean was into this idea of randomly drawing the tag teams for those two tournaments,” Jay Fair remarked. “The issue, as was standard for Jean when he was low on ideas, was the fact he didn’t plan ahead. He literally randomly drew them in 2014. That’s how you end up with Glenn and Starr winning it in ’14. ’15 he tried to be more serious, but in the end you still have a crapstorm brewing. It’s why in ’16 we would end up having only one non-team in that tournament.

 

“Of course, that was more about storytelling than it was about teamwork.
