A Villain that was never pinned. A Villain that never directly lost a vital piece of him, the PROGRESS World Championship.

His unlucky opponent was Damian Slater of WWE Cruiserweight Classic fame where he lost to Tajiri last summer. Completely taken back by the entrance of Marty, Damian seemed reluctant to enter the ring with a man many were expecting to defeat him. Zack Gibson is in the biggest match of his life but will his broken nose affect his performance or will the beatdown he gave to Tyler Bate last night give him an advantage?

In a decent opener, Dazzler Team came out victorious over the local talent representing the home territory of Melbourne City Wrestling after the PROGRESS Strong Style Champion, Drew Gulak, forced Robbie Eagles to tap out to a Dragon Sleeper in just under 9 minutes.

The PROGRESS Womens Champion, Dahlia Black, was on commentary for the match and shared her hatred for everyone.

After 13 minutes of madness with all six women getting in a good amount of offence in, Evie came out victorious following an ending sequence which saw everyone hit their respective finishers. As referee Chris Roberts signalled for the bell to be rung as the end of the match, Dahlia Black walked down to the ring and demanded to Jim Smallman that her match with Evie started immediately to which he reluctantly agreed. Dahlia Black immediately hit a huge lariat to keep the exhausted Evie down just seconds into her second match of the evening as Dahlia retains the belt.

Coming into the match there was a slight unknown on how Jushin Thunder Liger and Will Ospreay would be able to work together as a unit considering their several great battles against each other in New Japan Pro Wrestling including the 2017 Best of the Super Junior Tournament Final just 6 weeks ago in Tokyo.

On the other hand you have the well-oiled team of TK Cooper and Jay White of the South Pacific Power Team who have helped each other reach the next level picking up several tag titles along the way including the Southside Tag Team Titles and the Over The Top Tag Team Titles.

The two teams put on a fantastic match with TK Cooper ducking under a Liger Shotei palm strike before rebounding back off the ropes and smacking Liger between the eyes with a Knockout Punch to secure victory in 16 minutes.

Post-Match Jushin Liger took to the microphone and in broken English thanked the crowd and PROGRESS Management for allowing him to work for PROGRESS before his retirement next month.

Pre-Match a video package highlighting the rise of Marty Scurll from Party Marty at Chapter 1 over five years ago to facing the late Kris Travis in his last match at Chapter 21 to beating Will Ospreay at Chapter 25 to capture the PROGRESS Title to the unforgettable Cage Match with Jimmy Havoc at Chapter 42 to losing the belt at Chapter 45 without directly losing it.

Marty Scurll defeated Travis Banks of the South Pacific Power Team in a fantastic match when after 19 minutes The Villain locked in a Crossface Chicken making Banks tap out almost immediately.

Post-Match once Travis had stumbled to the back with the aid of referee Chris Roberts, Marty Scurll took to the mic.

There is something that I am missing. I see it every night in my dreams within touching distance, that big shiny gold scrap of metal. I see that man in that fur coat swinging round an umbrella without a care in the world and that man is who I want to be. I never lost that belt and I need it back in my life. The challenger, Zack Gibson, was out first sporting his red face mask once again.

I AM LIVERPEWL’S NUMBER ONE ZACK GIBSON, SOON TO BE RECOGNISED AS PROGRESS WRESTLING’S NUMBER ONE, SOON TO BE RECOGNISED AS THE AUSTRALIA’S NUMBER ONE AND SOON TO BE RECOGNISED AS THE WERLD’S NUMBER ONE. Tyler Bate was then out with Moustache Mountain Tag Team Partner, Trent Seven, at his side to offer some support.

After 22 minutes of hard hitting back and forth pro graps, Zack Gibson used a borderline dangerous punt kick almost knocking Tyler Bate’s head clean off forcing referee Chris Roberts to warn him about a possible DQ if he went any further. Trent Seven hopped up onto the apron and leaned over the ropes to make a claim to the referee about a DQ when Gibson pushed Chris Roberts from behind straight into Trent’s fist by “accident”. Trent checked on the referee while Gibson continued to ground and pound the champion and once it was clear to Trent that Chris Roberts was out he went digging under the ring for a chair and entered the ring to take matters into his own hands. He lifted up the chair ready to swing at Zack Gibson who backed away… Trent Seven strikes the prone Tyler Bate with the chair! Trent began focusing his wild attack on the right arm of the defenceless Tyler while Zack Gibson stood in the corner looking on in shock.

Trent left the ring and walked out the building back through the curtain flipping off the crowd who returned the bird allowing Liverpool’s Number One to lock in the Shankly Gates with Tyler Bate unresponsive, backup referee Paz ran down to the ring and called the end to the match to crown Zack Gibson the new PROGRESS World Champion.

Chapter 56: Thou Shalt Not Question Stephen Fry

Out on commentary as a guest for the opening contest of the evening was one half of the PROGRESS Tag Team Champions, Rampage Brown. He noted how they aren’t in competition tonight as his partner, Daisuke Sekimoto, is on a 3 week tour of America wrestling in companies such as EVOLVE and PWG. He’ll be back next show to defend the shield. Also on commentary, Rampage Brown noted how he feels that there are no tag teams left in the PROGRESS Tag Team division that are a legitimate threat to the big lads.

In the ring was a great first match with ultimately TK Cooper earning himself and Travis Banks a tag title shot next show. The finish came when Jack Gallagher hit his corner dropkick that has put away so many opponents on Paul Robinson but TK Cooper snuck in and stole the pin and the title shot.

The first Quarter Final of the fifth Natural Progression Series saw James Drake against Calvin St. Pierre. The latter of the two unfortunately wasn’t great in ring and his lack of experience was taken advantage of by James Drake who picked up the victory to advance with relative ease in just under 8 minutes.

Marty Scurll’s request for a former PROGRESS Champion was answered by none other than the Aerial Assassin, the current IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, Will Ospreay. The two are no strangers to each other hosting many incredibly matches all over the world last year.

In a phenomenal match Marty Scurll defeated IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay in a clash of former PROGRESS World Champions in the latest of their world tour of matches. After 23 minutes of hard competition Marty caught Ospreay reversing the OsCutter into a Crossface Chicken Wing to secure the win.

Post-match Ospreay slumped in the corner grabbed a microphone and stopped Marty as he was walking out the ring.

Oi, oi, mate. Listen. You are one of the best damn wrestlers in the world, I don’t know what the hell has been happening in your head recently about going for Gibson’s title is all bull. You are more than ready to challenge him. He was lucky last time, train hard and you can become the first ever two time champ. If anyone is good enough it’s the villain.

Marty shook his head and kicked the mic out of Will’s hand before heading to the back.

Before referee Chris Roberts had a chance to signal for the opening ring bell, Jinny ran at Toni Storm getting an advantage early on to the dismay of the crowd. For around four minutes Jinny kept in control until out of nowhere Toni sat up out of the Style Clash position to hit a hurricanrana to swing all momentum her way. Just as the Aussie looked moments away from victory a familiar figure in Pastor William Eaver walked out on to the balcony looking down. The crowd all became distracted by Eaver making an unexpected appearance in the middle of the match and Toni Storm let go of her Sharpshooter submission to check what everyone was looking at. Turning her back on Jinny was a terrible mistake as Jinny sneaked out, took a chair out from under the ring and struck Toni in the back.

Jinny put her chair down and sat on it using Toni’s fallen body as a foot rest as the Pastor looked on expressionless.

Wow… This match was fast. Pete Dunne immediately went for a brainbuster and pinned Bodyguy Roy Johnson in a mere 8 seconds to the shock of everyone in attendance.

JIM. GET ME A REAL CHALLENGE. THIS IS A JOKE. I AM THE GREATEST WRESTLER IN THE UK AND YOU GIVE ME THIS? I WANT A FIGHT.

Wow… This match was pretty great. Kota Ibushi came out to a crazy response and Pete Dunne freaked out. Dunne told Jordan Devlin to go get him before he could get to the ring and got a huge kick to the chest for trying that forced him to be helped backstage by ringside crew.

For just over 16 minutes the two beat the hell out of each other with the Bruiserweight’s strong forearms leaving Kota’s neck all red while Kota’s kicks bloodied up the chest of Pete.

Eventually it was Pete Dunne who somehow overcame the pain from the brutal kicks and lifted up Kota Ibushi for brainbuster to win. Pete went to the back with the victory leaving Kota alone in the ring being showered with Please Come Back chants.

The brand new PROGRESS World Champion Zack Gibson was out on commentary for the main event delivering his trademark pre-match speech for those watching on Pivotshare.

Unfortunately after the last match the collision of the lads formerly known as Moustache Mountain fell flat with a match that fell way below expectations. Tyler Bate locked in a crossface and Zack Gibson walked down to ringside leaving Trent Seven tapping while Tyler’s eyes locked in on Zack while securing the win. Zack jumped into the ring and jumped on top of Tyler laying in the ground and pound to a chorus of boos.

Marty Scurll’s music hit and he ran down umbrella in hand but stopped himself before sliding into the lion’s den as the doubt inside his mind came over him while Zack Gibson laughed on taunting him. The Villain hit his own forehead with the umbrella to open up his forehead allowing blood to drip down his forehead into his mouth licking his lips. Suddenly Marty was the one laughing leaving Gibson in a very rare situation as his mouth was wide open speechless.
