Description:
The show opens with a sombre Arn Anderson sitting in Shane McMahon’s office, as he addresses the audience. He announces that Rob Van Dam is unable to compete tonight, and will be out of action for several months due to personal problems. He apologises sincerely, and notes that the United States Championship will still be defended tonight — Kanyon has been added to the Raven vs DDP bout, to make it a three-way dance! “All three of those men have history, and it’ll be quite the match. Despite this last minute change, I can guarantee you that all the WCW locker room will be giving their all and doing their very best to put on a great show tonight. Thank you.”

We see slow-motion scenes of WCW competitors in action overlaid in stark black and white, before cutting to shots of wrestlers like Booker T, Kanyon and Diamond Dallas Page screaming in pain, and the likes of The Giant, Raven and Rob Van Dam (Sir Not-Appearing-On-This-PPV) yelling angrily. As the music grows darker and more desperate, both black and white images continue to do battle as the screen fades to black. We simply see a single word: “Revenge”, before cutting to the crowd and pyro.

Match Report:
The Técnicos are out with their King of Cruiserweight Trios Tournament trophy, and are in fine spirits. The Radicalz are rather more sedate and cautious, withstanding an initial barrage of babyface fire before beginning to wear down Hector Garza with quick tags and submissions. Garza attempts an enzuiguri on Malenko to try for the hot tag, but the wily veteran dodges and yanks the técnico back into the centre of the ring for a Texas Cloverleaf.

Garza barely makes the ropes, and as Malenko tags out to Eddy, just manages to tag into Juventud Guerrera in time. Eddy and Juvi go back and forth with spectacular offense, with the Juice getting the better of things and going up top for the 450 splash! Air Juvi gets Eddy’s knees to the chest however, and as Chavo rushes around the ring to knock Heavy Metal from the apron, Latino Heat hits the Three Amigos and polishes off Guerrera with the Frog Splash. The Radicalz repel their King of Cruiserweight Trios challengers at Revenge!

As the Radicalz kick Garza and Guerrera to the outside, a hurt Heavy Metal rushes into the ring with fists swinging, and the Radicalz decide to beat a retreat. Eddy, Chavo and Malenko huddle on the ramp, knowing they have the numbers advantage against the upstart Metal, but instead decide to let him have this moment, Eddy applauding sarcastically at the ‘kid’.

Booker T is pacing backstage as Gene Okerlund stands with a microphone, asking him: "Starrcade was your biggest match on the biggest stage, and it was there you suffered your greatest defeat. You have a chance to avenge that loss tonight -- how do you feel?" Booker stares at him strangely, snorting. "How do I feel? How do I -feel-? You're normally better at this than that, Gene, what sort of sorry-ass question is that? I -feel- pissed off, man. I -feel- like I've been beat down one too many times, and I -feel- like it's time to start dishing it out instead of just taking it. I -feel- like wiping the smirk off the Giant's face and I -feel- like taking back my title and becoming the five-time... five-time five-time five-time FIVE-TIME WCW Heavyweight Champion of the World. That's how I -feel-, sucka." He rolls his shoulders and strides off, leaving Okerlund a bit flabbergasted.

Match Report:
Saturn is in a bad mood tonight, as Mike Tenay informs us that he would like nothing more than to take back the WCW Television Championship. He has no patience for Das Wunderkind’s dancing, immediately floors Wright with a single-leg takedown and hammering away, before transitioning to the Rings of Saturn! Wright still has a lot of fight left in him and shuffles to the ropes, but Saturn’s*early onslaught has him spooked.

A more cautious Wright settles for chain-wrestling against Saturn, and the two exchange holds and throws as the crowd buzz a little restlessly. Saturn gets an eventual advantage, pulling out a northern lights suplex and death valley driver for a near-fall. Wright hangs on, and an increasingly desperate Saturn goes for a quebrada (Chris Jericho’s lionsault) but gets only canvas. Wright makes a recovery, rocking Saturn with dropkicks and a diving crossbody, before catching him with the bridging German suplex to retain! Saturn pounds the mat afterwards in frustration.

But no, if I must punish you once again and finish off Page again, then I shall. If I must liberate the United States by becoming its champion and delivering it from false prophets, then I will. Match Report:
James Mitchell remains absent at ringside. Liger runs wild in the early going, bringing a great mat game and retaining at least some of his former high-flying offence. Daniels manages to cut him off with a stiff kick to the gut, before nailing him with several crisp suplexes. The crowd will Liger back into things, as he hits a rolling Liger kick and a shotei which sends Daniels reeling into the corner, before lifting him up top and delivering a spectacular frankensteiner! The crowd are now on their feet as Liger lifts Daniels up for the Liger Bomb, but the cunning Cruiserweight champion rakes the eyes through the mask and wriggles out, cradling Liger just long enough for the three count — Liger kicks out at 3.5! Daniels scampers up the ramp with title in hand, but Liger lifts a hand with his thumb and index finger almost touching — he was -this- close to winning the title, the message seems to be.

We see a hype-package for the upcoming Sean O’Haire vs Chuck Palumbo match. We follow the rise of the Natural Born Thrillers faction, with both men holding World Tag Team championship gold with Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak respectively, before forming their own team. O’Haire and Palumbo knock off the team of Diamond Dallas Page and Kevin Nash to win the titles, before running roughshod across other duos including Team Canada and Double Trouble. The package shows their loss of the belts to Saturn and Malenko, before following Palumbo’s arm injury and embarrassing losses in WarGames, the Top Contender’s Tournament and Starrcade. Finally, Palumbo turns on O’Haire and yet O’Haire has been unable to lay hands on him since, in part due to Torrie Wilson, who has given Palumbo a beautiful new makeover.

Torrie Wilson is at ringside. O’Haire is right on top of Palumbo from the bell, offloading with huge strikes. Palumbo bails outside but O’Haire gives chase, running around the ring until getting tripped by an errant leg stuck out by Torrie! Palumbo takes advantage, throwing O’Haire into the steps before beating him down in the ring. Chucky P flexes and showboats as he dishes out punishment — yet the adrenaline begins flowing and O’Haire mounts a comeback with huge clotheslines and spinebusters. He sets Palumbo up for the Widowmaker, a reverse death-valley driver, but Torrie climbs to the apron and begins screaming: “Don’t you hurt my Chucky!” O’Haire grins and delivers the Widowmaker anyway, yet the momentary distraction gives Chucky time to recover and he deftly lands on his feet then hits O’Haire with the superkick! Chucky actually looks surprised when the bell rings, a huge toothy grin on his face as Torrie rolls in and begins hugging him tightly. He rises to his feet and whispers something in her air, causing Torrie to bounce up and down shrieking “Makeover!” She heads outside and grabs a make-up bag from under the ring, as Chuck lifts O’Haire up in a headlock to a seated position. Torrie removes some lipstick and leans in to begin O’Haire’s makeover, but Sean manages to revive and grabs her wrist, pushing the lipstick back at her face and smearing it all over her! Torrie begins freaking out as O’Haire muscles out of Palumbo’s headlock and begins nailing him with hard shots. Palumbo rolls out of the ring, running as fast as he can to the back as O’Haire smirks a bit, saying: “This ain’t over.” Meanwhile, Torrie is still screaming at ringside as she tries to wipe lipstick off her cheek and nose.

Match Report:
KroniK are unstoppable in the early going, with both Adams and Clark having their way with Storm and Awesome with a series of gorilla presses, spinebusters and stiff lariats. Storm and Awesome decide to take a count-out loss, walking back up the ramp — when KroniK come to give chase, Team Canada turn suddenly and begin nailing them with forearms. “A cunning trap, Tenay!” Heenan explains from commentary. Awesome begins working on Adams back in the ring, beating the veteran brawler down with hard knees and a sidewalk slam. The crowd rally behind KroniK, but Team Canada keep the pressure on with repeated quick tags as Storm and Awesome take turns.

Adams eventually gets fed up selling and just decks Storm with a hard clothesline, limping over to tag in Clark who begins decimating both of his opponents with huge shoulderblocks and a big boot followed by a leg drop. “That’s gimmick infringement, Funkster won’t be happy! Get your own moves!” Heenan notes, before Tenay just audibly sighs, not even dignifying that one with a response. Clark goes to whip Storm into the corner, but the Canadian grappler goes down clutching his ankle! The referee investigates the possible injury, waving Clark off as Storm yells in pain. Clark eventually pulls the referee off and goes to apprehend Storm, but gets rolled up and pinned! Storm bails outside, running up the ramp with Awesome as they celebrate with the WCW World Tag Team Championships! “That ankle doesn’t look injured at all, it was a ruse!” Tenay yells, a bit disappointed. “He healed, it’s a miracle! That’s Canadian health-care for you,” Heenan responds.

Match Report:
Raven begins the match yelling at Page, trying to arrange an impromptu alliance: “We get rid of Chris, then we do this, you and me. Like it was supposed to be!” DDP shakes his head, so an undaunted Raven instead propositions Kanyon: “He’s a parasite, Chris — hanging on past his prime, taking advantage of you! Let’s take him down… together!” Kanyon declines, and both he and DDP stand together, both taking the fight to Raven! They take him out of the equation with a few double-team moves followed by a combination belly-to-back suplex and neckbreaker. Raven rolls to the floor, half-conscious, as Page and Kanyon turn to face each other and begin to tee off.

DDP and Kanyon work the bulk of the match, building up from tests of strength to high impact moves, as Raven remains outside clutching his neck and out of sight. Mike Tenay wonders if Raven is simply biding his time, a suspicion that is confirmed whenever DDP hits a huge Diamond Cutter on Kanyon and Raven slides in quickly to break the count. Raven and DDP brawl back and forth as Kanyon recovers, and it soon becomes a three-way melee. In the fracas, Kanyon nails a Flatliner on Page and tries a second on Raven, but the wily brawler counters and instead hits the Raven Effect! Raven covers Kanyon to get the pin, with DDP also down and out of it.

Ric Flair is out first, in a dazzling glittery robe of black and white stripes, similar to a sports referee’s shirt. The crowd give him a great reaction as he struts out of the robe to reveal regulation WCW referee’s uniform of white shirt and black bow-tie.

Match Report:
The two brawl wildly to begin, with Booker backing Giant against the ropes and pelting him with right hands until Flair gets between them. Giant hauls Booker into the corner and rains down on his chest with open-palmed strikes, forcing Naitch to intervene again. Flair and Giant get into a face-to-face argument that ends when Giant is caught by a thrust kick by Booker, as the Book takes the fight to his much larger opponent. Booker scores with several knee-lifts and a forearm smash, before trying to put Giant away with the Harlem Hangover — he kicks out at one, and even Flair is a bit surprised!

Booker goes up top for the Heat Seeker missile dropkick, but Giant swats him out of the air like a fly as the crowd gasp. Giant begins choking Booker in the corner again, as Flair tries to drag the champion off, screaming about disqualifications. Giant turns his anger to Naitch, yelling angrily at him to “DQ me if you dare” before pushing him over! Flair springs to his feet, a look of fury on his face, as Tenay adds that “If Giant is DQed, he keeps the title — is this part of his plan?” Giant turns around into an attempted Book End, but elbows Booker hard in the head and throttles him before lifting him high and slamming him hard with a monstrous chokeslam. Giant covers him for the 1… 2… no! Booker kicks out!

Giant is furious, blaming Flair for a slow count as Booker begins shaking with adrenaline. Giant turns and lifts him up for a second thunderous chokeslam! Booker is still twitching a bit, so Giant nails him with a unprecedented third! Booker isn’t moving anymore, and as Giant hooks the leg and grins wickedly at Flair, the Nature Boy reluctantly counts to three.

Still WCW World Heavyweight Champion, The Giant

Description:
Flair helps Booker outside the ring, where other officials are waiting to escort him to the back. Giant is soaking up the crowd’s boos as he roars in the ring, then demands Flair raise his hand and proclaim him the winner and World Heavyweight Champion. Flair grabs the belt and stands next to Giant, before having second thoughts. He shakes his head, responding loudly that “You can go to -hell-, Giant! Wooo!” Giant is furious and slaps a hand around Naitch’s neck for the chokeslam, but the savvy Flair kicks him hard between the legs, and the Giant falls to his knees and rolls outside.

Flair picks up the fallen World Heavyweight Championship belt and looks at it thoughtfully as the crowd begin to buzz, realising what’s happening. Naitch grins and holds the title high, screaming: “TO BE THE MAN, YOU GOTTA BEAT THE MAN! AND I’M THE MAN — I’M GOING BACK TO THE MOUNTAIN-TOP ONE MORE TIME, BABY! WOOOO!” The show goes off the air as Tenay screams: “It looks like we might have our next number one contender! I can’t -wait- to see what happens next, fans!”

Feedback

I’m going to take a break a couple of days before putting up the card for the next WCW Saturday Night. In the meantime, please keep any feedback or comments coming.

I'm particularly interested in a couple of things, given that my writing style and presentation has drifted a little from the diary's onset:

1- The match reports and angle descriptions have been getting gradually longer. Do you prefer that level of detail, or did you prefer the more sparse 3 or 4 line recaps?

2- Do you like the increased use of extra graphics and Youtube videos to add a little more immersion into the reports? Would you like to see even more? One idea I've had of late has been a 'Shane McMahon's WCW' Youtube playlist, with themes for each roster member, to form a kind of soundtrack for the diary.

3- Would you prefer more time to predict cards, particularly PPV cards, or are you happy with the daily schedule? I know there are people who predict every single day, and perhaps there are others who can't get around to it as often as they'd like.

4- Are there are other comments or ideas you have in terms of the diary's style and presentation? I'm afraid that I can't take short-term booking ideas, as my TEW save is already in June 2002 by this point.

Thanks!

<p>I don't need long match reports. I do think one of the big strengths of your writing is the promos and angles so enjoy them being longer</p><p> </p><p>

The more updates the better for me. Always disappointed when I come on and there isn't new stuff!</p>

Both Booker and Giant lacked a certain something during their Starrcade bout, and Flair's veteran instincts and mastery of psychology was able to cover any awkward spots. </div><br /></li><li><div style="margin-left:25px;"> On a related note, Ric Flair has been pencilled in as the Giant's challenger for SuperBrawl. It's no secret that Giant works best when he's the junior hand in a match, and Flair may be able to take him to the next level. Though turning 53 this month, there is no apparent sign of the Nature Boy slowing down and he is well-rested and refreshed following his nine month hiatus from WCW. </div><br /></li><li><div style="margin-left:25px;"> WCW has began circulating promotional materials for February’s SuperBrawl PPV, featuring a football field and helmets colliding. In giving feedback, this is honestly my favorite dynasty on here, so I can't offer much in the way of constructive criticism. I think longer write-ups work for PPVs but might not be needed for matches in the weekly TV show (the great promos are what has really built up the characters in my eyes). The extra graphics add a lot and help distinguish the PPVs especially. I've been impressed with your ability to turn out shows nearly every day, and I think that pace is what adds to the enjoyment of the dynasty. </p><p> </p><p>

I also had to look up to see if that Kid Rock and Nickleback cover is actually a real thing, so at least I learned something today.</p>

<p>1- Do what you think is best overall. Personally I think the shorter ones work best for TV shows, get a little bit longer for events. But you do you, man <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

2- The more immersion is always better.</p><p> </p><p>

3- Given I've only been predicting PPVs anyways, this one doesn't matter to me much.</p><p> </p><p>

4- You've been doing well at keeping this looking and feeling authentic. I can't think of anything I would add or subtract.</p><p> </p><p>

Good job on Revenge. Surprised that Chucky actually just picked up a win over O'Haire, but glad to see I was right and that the feud will continue. The US title should be getting plenty of good rebuild with all these high profile matches, which is good considering the start of 2001 had it on guys like Morrus and Rick Steiner. Can't wait to see what Raven does now that he has the gold around his waist.</p>

<p>1- The match reports and angle descriptions have been getting gradually longer. Do you prefer that level of detail, or did you prefer the more sparse 3 or 4 line recaps?</p><p> </p><p>

1- The writing for this is really good. I'd keep the TVs shorter and the PPVs longer, but do what works best for you.</p><p> </p><p>

2- Do you like the increased use of extra graphics and Youtube videos to add a little more immersion into the reports? Would you like to see even more? One idea I've had of late has been a 'Shane McMahon's WCW' Youtube playlist, with themes for each roster member, to form a kind of soundtrack for the diary.</p><p> </p><p>

2- I prefer youtube links for big shows, entrances, etc. I wouldn't over-do it though.</p><p> </p><p>

3- Don't really predict.</p><p> </p><p>

4- Keep up the good work. Like beej, I can't think of anything I'd add to this baby.</p>

Ric Flair is out on stage as requested. “The only reason I kicked you down there, my Giant friend, is that you’ve been too cocky for too long and somebody needed to bust your balls! Woooo!” The crowd like that one, but Giant shakes his head in fury and barks down the microphone: “When I’m done with you, your balls won’t be the only thing busted, Flair. Since you want to hold my title, how about you try and take it from me like a real man? Me, you — SuperBrawl, in the main event.” Flair grins from ear to ear, replying: “How can I say no? You’ve fought Shane McMahon, you’ve fought Booker T, but you’re looking at something else, baby! The belt you’re holding was -made- for me, and at SuperBrawl I’m taking it back! Wright sets up for the bridging German suplex, but Parka hooks the heel and tries for for a roll-up instead, grabbing the tights. Storm speaks: “If I can be serious for a minute, last night we finally accomplished what it is we said we would do. We have won the WCW World Tag Team championship, and we will defend them with honor, prestige and integrity. No more will they be sullied by the tawdry shenanigans of inarticulate bodybuilders like KroniK. No, today is the beginning of a new era of excellence, and to commemorate this, we have renamed the championships in honor of the greatest country on Earth. I present to you, the WCW Canadian Tag Team Championships!” Awesome lifts the drapes to reveal the championships covered with a large sticker depicting Canada’s flag, as the Canadian national anthem begins to play and both Storm and Awesome put a hand on their heart. </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“ATTEN… TION!” A martial drumbeat cuts out the anthem as Hugh Morrus and Lash LeRoux, the Misfits In Action, come out on stage in military fatigues. “Those championships represent the finest spirit of competition all across the world, including these United States of America!” Morrus barks, getting the cheap pop from the crowd, who begin chanting ‘U-S-A’. “That’s right, boys,” LeRoux continues, “and if you’re gonna turn this into yet another game of Canada versus the World, then it’s time we put an end to it before it begins. Game over, boys.” Storm and Awesome look furious in the ring, their ceremony ruined.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Liger is tripped by Daniels at ringside, and the Family begin getting the heat on the Japanese star. The crowd will Liger back into things, and he makes the hot tag to Funkster, who funks up and begins dominating Crowbar and Vicious. Daffney climbs onto the apron and blows Funkster a kiss, distracting his attention as he goes all wide-eyed and approaches her. </div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Match Report:</strong></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Dean Malenko is in Los Guerreros’ corner. Styles and Chavo exchange flurries of offence early on, with lightning-fast dropkicks and crisp suplexes. Eddy tags in and uses veteran instinct to cut Styles off, wearing him down with the Three Amigos suplexes and hitting a springboard senton. Styles tries to tag Paris, but his partner remains just out of reach as Eddy drags him to the centre of the ring and locks in the Laso from El Paso. Styles struggles and eventually reaches the ropes, just as Chavo rushes into the ring and takes the referee’s focus — a wily Malenko kicks Styles’ hands off the ropes, and Eddy yanks him back into the centre and forces him to tap, as Paris and Chavo brawl outside.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Maybe the old magic -is- gone, Chris.” Kanyon shakes his head a little, murmuring: “It wasn’t you that had your shoulders pinned to the mat at Revenge. I worked hard for that title, and I lost it.” The two remain silent for a moment, then Kanyon sits up and tells DDP: “Don’t worry, we’re going to get back on track. And I know how.” Page perks a curious eyebrow, and the camera cuts away as Kanyon begins to explain.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Description:</strong></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Raven is in a dimly-lit corridor with the WCW United States Championship under his shoulder and a wry smirk. “Oh say can you see, by the dawn’s early light — what so proudly we hailed, at the twilight’s last gleaming? No? All I can see is a martyr for society’s dysfunction and now the champion of the United States. So consider this your inaugural address: there is nothing to fear but fear itself. And Raven. So ask not what your US champion can do for you, ask what you can—“ </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Raven glares off-screen as Norman Smiley comes bumbling into frame, looking lost: “Sorry, where’s catering?” Raven snarls and pushes him out of sight, causing Smiley to yelp as the United States Champion yells: “Get out of here, you halfwit!” He turns to face the camera again, before picking up his train of thought. “One nation under Raven, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. That is my promise to you… quote the Raven nevermore.” </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Description:</strong></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Randy Orton, Shawn Stasiak and David Flair are out in the ring looking pumped, as their manager Stacy Keibler grabs a microphone: “We weren’t on Mayhem, we weren’t on Starrcade, we weren’t on Revenge. The Dynasty have the tools, the lineage and the hunger but Arn Anderson won’t give us an opportunity. So come on, if you think you can take us — the Dynasty are calling out any team for an open challenge. Make our day, gentlemen.” They wait for a moment, and start getting cocky when it seems nobody will answer the challenge.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

BANG! DDP’s music hits, and Page comes out with Kanyon, both raring to go. As they walk down to ringside, Page explains on a microphone: “Chris and I may not be cutting it in singles competition as of late, but we’re one badass tag-team. Here’s how it’ll be — instead of sulking in the back, we’re going to make an example out of you three on our way to those tag titles. Badabing, badaboom, badaBANG!” They hit the ring and begin cleaning house on the Dynasty with huge clotheslines, before Stacy calls them off and Stasiak, Flair and Orton flee to the back. </div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Description:</strong></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Gene Okerlund is backstage with a visibly weak Booker T, who lacks the usual spring in his step. “What can I say, man? I lost last night, he kicked my ass, but this isn’t it for the Booker Man. Maybe I’m going to the back of the line, but I -will- be back and I -will- take back that World Championship when all is said and done. Now can you dig—“ Booker is cut off as Perry Saturn blindsides him from behind and begins putting the boots to him! Gene Okerlund starts calling for help as Saturn continues pummelling Booker before locking in the Rings of Saturn and wrenching it hard. “You won’t forget me, nobody’s going to forget me!” Saturn yells as he locks the hold in tighter, seemingly yelling at nobody in particular. </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Match Report:</strong></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Booker T’s music plays, but he doesn’t come out, as Mike Tenay informs us that he’s being sent to a local medical facility following Saturn’s savage assault. O’Haire seems undaunted at the bout becoming a handicap match, initially laying a whooping on both Chucky and Raven with spinebusters and clotheslines galore. He eventually falls prey to the numbers advantage as Raven and Palumbo tag in and out quickly to stay fresh. Torrie cheers on Palumbo at ringside as O’Haire is sent shoulder-first into the turnbuckle post then hit with Chucky’s TKO. O’Haire fought bravely, but he couldn’t fight off both men alone.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Description:</strong></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Raven and Chucky decide to lay down a further beating on O’Haire, as Raven hauls him up and hits him with the Evenflow DDT. The crowd go wild as none other than Norman Smiley comes running down to the ring for the save, and he begins to rain down punches on both Palumbo and Raven! “Raven pushed Smiley aside like he was nothing earlier, and now he’s paying for that mistake!” an excited Tenay screams on commentary. Smiley soon falls to the number advantage too however, and Palumbo hits the TKO. Raven kicks Smiley out of the ring and holds the United States Championship high to end the show.</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;">

News and Notes: Week 2, February 2002:

  • KroniK have been de-emphasised in recent weeks, following their loss of the WCW World Tag Team Championship. The feeling internally has been that the KroniK act works better in small doses, and after being pushed to the forefront in recent months, that Adams and Clark were in danger of becoming overexposed. After a few weeks out of the spotlight, creative will no doubt have new plans to bring them back into focus.

  • Heels run wild in WCW nowadays — it’s been noted that all six championships are held by heels, the last Saturday Night saw four heel wins in four matches, and seven in eight matches at Revenge. Whether this is deliberate or not, it should be stated in WCW’s case that while strong heels are essential to build credible babyfaces, when the faces fail one too many times they’re in danger of losing the crowd’s support. There is a fine line between an underdog and a loser, and at the heart of the New World Order’s dominance, the top babyfaces were perceived as the latter after repeated beatdowns and failures.
