<strong>Weekly Update: Week 1, July 2001</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Internally, expectations were low for the Great American Bash. While buyrate projections seem lower than even the early 2001 WCW PPVs, management are being patient, recognising that it’s still early days and that it’s a rebuilding phase.</p><p> </p><p>

Chavo Guerrero Jr. is expected to be in line for a considerable push, as WCW management desperately want to increase the number of trusted workhorses in the upper card.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Dark Matches:</strong></p><p>

Jung Dragons & Yoshihiro Tajiri beat Reno, Johnny the Bull & Christopher Daniels (54)</p><p>

Chavo Guerrero Jr. beat Brock Lesnar [developmental tryout] (61) </p><p>

XXY beat Cash & Air Raid (55)</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Shane bars the Radicalz (70)</strong></p><p>

Shane McMahon is out: “I want to thank the WCW fans and locker-room for a phenomenal Great American Bash. But there’s also some unfinished business to take care of.” He announces Booker T vs DDP for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship later tonight in a rematch from the Night of Champions. He’s ordered the Radicalz barred from the building tonight to ensure a clean finish.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy Kidman vs Evan Karagias w/ Shannon Moore - 8:00 (65)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Billy%20Kidman_zpsyi1v7mjm.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Evan%20Karagias_zpsiamkvklt.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Shane Helms is on commentary: “I’m just scouting the competition. Kidman may have stuck his nose in my business at the Bash, but I’m not the kind to hold grudges.” A fast-paced opener with Kidman managing to outwit both Karagias in the ring and Moore’s distractions on the outside. Kidman goes up top for the Shooting Star Press, but Helms leaves the commentary desk and pushes Kidman off the top for the DQ! Helms, Moore & Karagias put the boots to Kidman.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Billy Kidman (by DQ)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Radicalz locked out (74)</strong></p><p>

The Radicalz are prowling outside the arena, slamming on locked doors as they try to find a way inside. Eddy in particular looks furious, swearing in Spanish.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Hugh Morrus & Lash LeRoux vs Team Canada - 12:00 (71)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Hugh%20Morrus_zpsmc2y7azt.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Lash%20LeRoux_zpsl3xgf7yl.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Lance%20Storm_zpse9m2gxhf.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Awesome_zpsodanyixf.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

The former Misfits In Action control the match early on, with Storm & Awesome still showing signs of dissension from the Bash. They eventually manage to get back on the same page, and with Awesome laying Morrus out at ringside, Storm forces LeRoux to tap to the Canadian Maple Leaf.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Team Canada</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Gene’s Back!(48)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Gene%20Okerlund%202_zpsini3f2io.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chavo%20Guerrero%20Jr_zpseehinxo8.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Gene Okerlund is backstage: “Mean Gene here, and I’m glad to be back in the WCW. I can’t wait to interview the rising stars and… hey!” A startled-looking Chavo Guerrero Jr. stumbles in front of camera, forcing Gene to stop mid-sentence: “What on earth are you doing?” Chavo gives Gene a suspicious glance before wandering away without speaking.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Shane Helms vs Steve Corino w/ Crowbar & Daffney - 12:00 (68)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shane%20Helms_zpsa1omucvp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Steve%20Corino_zpsygtipuas.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Corino comes out alone, but Crowbar and Daffney slink in from the crowd to cheer him on. Helms dominates the early part of the match, but Corino soon makes a comeback. He locks in the Cobra Clutch, but Helms wriggles out and hits him with a Vertebreaker for the clean win.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Shane Helms</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Pull-apart brawl (46)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shane%20Helms_zpsa1omucvp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Billy%20Kidman_zpsyi1v7mjm.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shannon%20Moore_zps2iykwdl6.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Evan%20Karagias_zpsiamkvklt.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Crowbar_zps6tk65odi.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Steve%20Corino_zpsygtipuas.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Daffney_zpsazzcbjza.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Helms is celebrating in the middle of the ring when Kidman runs down to deal revenge. 3 Count rush in quickly to protect Helms, and Moore, Karagias, Crowbar, Corino and Daffney are able to finally pull the two apart.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Dynasty interview (68)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Torrie%20Wilson_zps4ibdgl2t.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shawn%20Stasiak_zpskrxrdwkr.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Miss%20Hancock_zpskrg1mfqy.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/David%20Flair_zpsxcp6wmxl.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Torrie Wilson is with Stacy Keibler and the Dynasty. “We showed KroniK last week that brains will always triumph over brawn. Tonight they get another lesson from the Dynasty… one they’ll never forget.”</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Natural Born Thrillers & KroniK vs Mark Jindrak, Mike Sanders & The Dynasty w/ Stacy Keibler - 10:00 (59)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chuck%20Palumbo_zpsycvvshzr.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Brian%20Adams_zps8txes64b.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Bryan%20Clark_zpsymprtd6l.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mark%20Jindrak_zpsxcaxveef.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Sanders_zpszscal8ch.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shawn%20Stasiak_zpskrxrdwkr.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/David%20Flair_zpsxcp6wmxl.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Jindrak and O’Haire start things off, exchanging brutal power moves. Eventually the match breaks down into chaos, with the referee struggling to maintain order. When the dust clears, Clark nails Flair with a brutal chokeslam — but Stasiak breaks the pin with a steel chair! The referee has no choice but to call for the DQ.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Natural Born Thrillers & KroniK (by DQ)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Sanders all alone (64)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chuck%20Palumbo_zpsycvvshzr.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Brian%20Adams_zps8txes64b.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Bryan%20Clark_zpsymprtd6l.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mark%20Jindrak_zpsxcaxveef.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Sanders_zpszscal8ch.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shawn%20Stasiak_zpskrxrdwkr.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Miss%20Hancock_zpskrg1mfqy.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/David%20Flair_zpsxcp6wmxl.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

KroniK and the Thrillers clear the ring, and Dynasty retreat up the aisleway. With Jindrak down on the floor at ringside, Mike Sanders is left all alone with four angry men! He begs off, but is soon quadruple-teamed and decimated with a Superkick, double Chokeslam and Seanton Bomb.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Raven’s Nest with Kanyon (68)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Raven%204_zpsmnr2wxw3.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

The lights are dimmed as Raven hosts a talk-show in the ring, complete with disheveled armchairs that appear to have been taken from a garbage dump. “This is Raven’s Nest, and here we play by Raven’s rules. And tonight, there’s somebody I want to talk to. Come on out, Kanyon.”</p><p> </p><p>

Kanyon’s music hits and he joins Raven in-ring, his ribs taped up from the PPV. Raven compliments him and DDP on dispatching the Radicalz at the Bash, but has a question: “Page is in the title match tonight, and you’re not. Does that seem fair to you?” Kanyon reluctantly agrees with Raven, but says that he’ll get his shot one day. “Chris, people like you and I… we’re outcasts, the downtrodden dregs of society. When we don’t get what we want, we have to make our own opportunities. You want a title shot, and you deserve one. The fans in the stands know it, maybe it’s time to make Shane-O-Mac listen. Quote the Raven… nevermore!” Kanyon looks pleased but uncertain.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Booker T © vs Diamond Dallas Page - 22:00 (72)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwheavyweight_zps9nk0igta.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

DDP seems more driven than normal, taking the fight to Booker early. Booker soon regains control, in a very back and forth match. At the end, Booker signals for the Axe Kick but DDP is too quick and… BANG! Booker falls prey to the Diamond Cutter, but when DDP makes the cover, the referee is pulled out of the ring by… the Radicalz? How the hell did they get in?! Guerrero, Malenko and Saturn storm the ring and assault both men yet again.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: No Contest</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Shane’s Fury (78)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Dean%20Malenko_zpsxxurrxce.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Perry%20Saturn_zps4q1oq0yk.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shane%20McMahon_zpsywl3l26v.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chuck%20Palumbo_zpsycvvshzr.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

The commentators bemoan the Radicalz sabotaging yet another title match, as Guerrero, Malenko and Saturn beat the hell out both Booker and DDP. Shane McMahon is soon on stage looking furious. He slams his jacket on the floor and motions backstage — and the Natural Born Thrillers come out to play! The Radicalz wisely retreat back into the crowd, as O’Haire and Palumbo stand tall, with Booker and DDP still laid out.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Weekly Update: Week 2, July 2001</strong></p><p> </p><p>

It couldn’t have come at a worse time: Chavo Guerrero Jr. was diagnosed after last week’s show with a torn metatarsal muscle, which is expected to keep him out of action for around two months. The blame is being put on Brock Lesnar, the developmental talent who wrestled Chavo in a try-out match before last week’s tapings. Any plans for Chavo’s rumored push have been put on hold.</p><p> </p><p>

Cash was suspended for a month after an altercation with a fan before tonight’s tapings. With Buff Bagwell gone, the locker-room atmosphere is a little less troubled, but Cash is amongst a few of the problem personalities that remain. </p><p> </p><p>

A pumped-up Shane McMahon is out first: “To say I was disappointed that last week’s main event ended in chaos once again… is an understatement. The Radicalz clearly aren’t happy with their losses at the Bash and want to be in the title hunt. Well, be careful what you wish for, because this is your -last- shot.” </p><p> </p><p>

Shane announces a main-event of Diamond Dallas Page vs Eddy Guerrero for the top contender spot later tonight, books Saturn and Malenko against the Natural Born Thrillers for the World Tag Team Championships at the upcoming Bash at the Beach pay-per-view.</p><p> </p><p>

Kidman is eager to get his hands on Helms early, but the Cruiserweight Champion quickly tags out to Moore. After some fast-paced action, Kidman plants Karagias with a hurricanrana and hits a Shooting Star Press for the victory. He celebrates as Helms scowls at ringside.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Billy Kidman, Steve Corino & Crowbar</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Thrillers chase off Radicalz (75)</strong></p><p>

Perry Saturn and Dean Malenko are backstage laughing: “Can you believe we have to face those muscle-headed rookies on pay-per-view? It’ll be a cake-walk.” Suddenly, Saturn spies the Natural Born Thrillers coming down the corridor, and taps Malenko on the back. The pair quickly flee before O’Haire and Palumbo see them.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Elix Skipper w/ Kid Romeo & Kwee Wee vs Yang w/ Kaz Hayashi - 8:00 (54)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Elix%20Skipper_zps7ael5m7v.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Yun%20Yang_zpswvffbmnj.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

In a short but exciting encounter, Skipper and Yang exchange near-falls before Romeo and Kwee Wee lay out Kaz Hayashi at ringside. With the referee distracted, the debuting Yoshihiro Tajiri slides out from under the ring and breathes poison mist in Skipper’s face! Yang rolls him up for the win, and as the Jung Dragons celebrate with Tajiri, XXY argue amongst themselves. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Yang</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Raven’s Nest with Booker T (81)</strong></p><p>

The ring is set up for Raven’s Nest, with its host declaring: “Last week, I told Chris Kanyon that when you don’t get what you want, you have to make your own opportunities. So… Booker T, come on out. I want to talk title shots.” Booker T’s music hits and he comes down to the ring, championship in hand. “I don’t if you noticed dog, but I got unfinished business. There’s two men fighting in the main-event tonight for the right to face me, you’ll have to get in line.” </p><p> </p><p>

Raven asks: “Book, I know you’re a busy man, but you’ve fought Page before and you’ve fought Eddy before. The people want to see fresh contenders, and… who better than Kanyon?” Raven then smirks, before adding: “And… what about Raven?” Booker shrugs: “I don’t make the matches, I just win them. Talk to Shane-O if you want a shot — you or Kanyon. Just don’t waste -my- time, sucka.” He leaves the ring, Raven watching him with a bemused expression.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Team Canada take out Kanyon (60)</strong></p><p>

Kanyon is backstage preparing for tonight’s match, carefully taping his ribs. Out of nowhere, Lance Storm hits him with a superkick to the face, and Awesome powerbombs him through a table. Kanyon is left for dead as Team Canada walk away.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Guerrero promo (71)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Gene%20Okerlund%202_zpsini3f2io.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Gene Okerlund is backstage with Eddy Guerrero. Gene asks him what he’ll do if he loses his last chance tonight. Eddy sneers: “You’d probably like it if I went back to the WWF, eh? It doesn’t matter, I -won’t- lose tonight. And that’s a promise, esse.”</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kanyon & Hugh Morrus vs Team Canada - 12:00 (66)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Hugh%20Morrus_zpsmc2y7azt.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Lance%20Storm_zpse9m2gxhf.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Awesome_zpsodanyixf.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Kanyon’s music plays but he doesn’t come out, leaving Morrus to fight a handicap match. Team Canada take their time double-teaming and dissecting the US Champion, and while Morrus tries to rally, he’s eventually put down with an almighty Awesome Bomb.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Team Canada</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Raven makes the save (58)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Hugh%20Morrus_zpsmc2y7azt.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Lance%20Storm_zpse9m2gxhf.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Awesome_zpsodanyixf.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Raven%204_zpsmnr2wxw3.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Team Canada aren’t done, continuing to beatdown Morrus after the match. Awesome grabs the United States Championship and holds it high in the air, before Raven runs in to make the save! He clears the ring of both men, saying audibly: “And that’s for Chris!”</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: DDP promo (75)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Gene%20Okerlund%202_zpsini3f2io.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Gene Okerlund is backstage with DDP. “Yo, Eddy’s been messing in my business for far too long, Mean Gene. At the Great American Bash, I put down his buddies — tonight, it’s his turn to feel the BANG!”</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>KroniK vs The Dynasty w/ Stacy Keibler - 10:00 (56)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Brian%20Adams_zps8txes64b.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Bryan%20Clark_zpsymprtd6l.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/David%20Flair_zpsxcp6wmxl.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shawn%20Stasiak_zpskrxrdwkr.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

KroniK dominate the early going, before Stasiak hits a chop-block on Adams and the Dynasty work on his leg. Flair even locks in a Figure-Four Leglock, before Adams muscles out and makes the hot tag. Clark runs wild on both men then hits Flair with the chokeslam for a clean pin.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: KroniK</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Jindrak and Sanders add insult to injury (62)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mark%20Jindrak_zpsxcaxveef.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Sanders_zpszscal8ch.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Kanyon is backstage being treated by the staff doctor. Mark Jindrak and Mike Sanders wander over and shove the doctor away. Kanyon snorts: “You too, huh? Make my day.” He gets in a few strikes to Sanders, before Jindrak slams him against the wall and leaves him floored, clutching his ribs.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>No. 1 Contender for WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Eddy Guerrero vs Diamond Dallas Page - 20:00 (72)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

DDP seems hesitant in the early going, and the commentators wonder whether Kanyon’s assault is weighing on his mind. Eddy works on his arm, before Page rallies and motions for the Diamond Cutter. Saturn and Malenko come out of the crowd and leap to the apron — DDP knocks them both off, but Guerrero nails him from behind and goes up top for a Frog Splash to get the victory.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: New No. 1 Contender for WCW World Heavyweight Championship, Eddy Guerrero</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Show-closing chaos (80)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Dean%20Malenko_zpsxxurrxce.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Perry%20Saturn_zps4q1oq0yk.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chuck%20Palumbo_zpsycvvshzr.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

The Radicalz are celebrating in the ring when an irate DDP rolls in and begins brawling with Guerrero. He’s quickly triple-teamed, but the Natural Born Thrillers come out to make the save! They finally get their hands on Saturn and Malenko, laying them out with a spinebuster and Seanton Bomb, as the show goes off the air.</p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Booker T is in the ring, talking about last week’s show: “I may not like how he did it, but Eddy won last week, and he’s got the match at Bash at the Beach.” Eddy comes out of the crowd, looking smug: “You better enjoy being Champion while you can, because your days are numbered, esse. Eight days and I have you all alone.”</p><p> </p><p>

Booker smirks: “About that, dog. I was talking in the back to Shane-O-Mac, and he didn’t like how you won last week — that you screwed Page yet again. So in eight days, it’s gonna be a three-way dance, sucka — you, me and…” BANG! Diamond Dallas Page’s music plays, and he stands on the ramp, nodding and grinning at both Booker and Eddy. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sean O’Haire vs Dean Malenko - 12:00 (76)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Dean%20Malenko_zpsxxurrxce.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

The commentators note that Palumbo and Saturn are backstage preparing for their match later tonight. Malenko controls the match’s pace throughout, working on O’Haire’s arm, but is overpowered in the end and crushed with a Seanton Bomb from the top rope.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Sean O’Haire</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>XXY (Elix Skipper & Kid Romeo) w/ Kwee Wee vs Jung Dragons (Kaz Hayashi & Yang) - 10:00 (55)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Elix%20Skipper_zps7ael5m7v.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Kid%20Romeo_zpszpshi4li.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Kaz%20Hayashi_zps768fz2pd.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Yun%20Yang_zpswvffbmnj.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Kwee Wee is ringside, frantically looking under the ring-apron for Tajiri throughout the match. He eventually decides to roll under the ring to investigate further, but pops out with a face full of mist, crying and flailing his arms! Romeo is distracted, and Yang rolls him up for the victory.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Jung Dragons</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: DDP and Kanyon backstage (72)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

A concerned-looking DDP is backstage with Kanyon, who is heavily favoring his ribs. “You shouldn’t be competing tonight, man — you’re tough, but you’re hurt. Think about your pay-per-view match, Chris.” Kanyon shrugs Page off: “Raven and Hugh Morrus need a partner tonight, so who better than Kanyon?”</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kanyon, Hugh Morrus & Raven vs Team Canada & Mark Jindrak w/ Mike Sanders - 14:00 (69)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Hugh%20Morrus_zpsmc2y7azt.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Raven%204_zpsmnr2wxw3.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Lance%20Storm_zpse9m2gxhf.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Awesome_zpsodanyixf.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mark%20Jindrak_zpsxcaxveef.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Raven and Morrus seem reluctant to tag in Kanyon, effectively fighting two-on-three for much of the match. Towards the end, with Morrus taken out by Awesome at ringside, Raven is forced to make the tag to Kanyon, who clears house until Jindrak takes the air out of him with a spinebuster and wins clean.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Team Canada & Mark Jindrak</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: RVD Hype Package (50)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Rob%20Van%20Dam_zpsmhyyegx2.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Rob Van Dam is making his hotly-anticipated debut at Bash at the Beach. The package shows him training and demonstrating his flexibility.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Eddy Guerrero vs Norman Smiley - 18:00 (82)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Norman%20Smiley_zpsqrirg7bn.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Booker T is on commentary. What seems to be a simple tune-up match, with Eddy taking Smiley lightly, turns out to be a longer bout. The crowd explode as Smiley takes the fight to Guerrero, but is eventually outmatched and forced to submit with the Lasso from El Paso.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Eddy Guerrero</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Ringside brawl (81)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Norman%20Smiley_zpsqrirg7bn.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

An incensed Guerrero keeps the Lasso locked in as Smiley screams in pain. Booker hits the ring to break it up, and the two exchange punches until Booker gets the best of Eddy, who makes a hasty retreat through the crowd.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy Kidman vs Shannon Moore w/ Evan Karagias - 6:00 (56)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Billy%20Kidman_zpsyi1v7mjm.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shannon%20Moore_zps2iykwdl6.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Helms and Karagias are both at ring-side, with Kidman watching them suspiciously. Kidman is distracted by Helms trash-talking him loudly, and Moore nails him with a neckbreaker! A sneaky Karagias holds down Kidman’s legs, and he’s unable to kick-out as Moore steals the win!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Shannon Moore</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Chuck Palumbo vs Perry Saturn - 12:00 (70)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chuck%20Palumbo_zpsycvvshzr.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Perry%20Saturn_zps4q1oq0yk.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

A slow, plodding affair to start off with, but Palumbo and Saturn eventually kick it up a few notches with a series of near-falls. The brawl continues to the outside, with Palumbo hitting Saturn square on the jaw with a superkick. Dean Malenko rushes the ring-side area and nails Chuck with a World Tag Team title, and the ref throws the match out.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Chuck Palumbo (by DQ)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Natural Born Killers (74)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Dean%20Malenko_zpsxxurrxce.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Perry%20Saturn_zps4q1oq0yk.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chuck%20Palumbo_zpsycvvshzr.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Malenko and Saturn put the boots to Palumbo outside, then the crowd erupts as Sean O’Haire rushes down to ringside. He hits Saturn with a huge clothesline, and grabs Malenko as he tries to escape. He hits Dean with a devastating fireman’s carry facebuster on the floor-mats, before helping Palumbo back to his feet. The Natural Born Thrillers stand tall to end the show.</p><p> </p><p>

<p><strong>Note:</strong> First off I just want to say that I spent a good portion of today reading your entire diary so far and I could not stop because of how good it's been up until this point. I really like the quick and to the point results because it makes it easy to read and move on. Keep up the great work! </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Weekly Update - Week 4, July 2001:</strong></p><p> </p><p>

If you hadn’t guessed from TV, Sean O’Haire is widely considered by the higher-ups in WCW to be the potential breakout superstar of the years to come. Tall, good-looking and decent in the ring, it seems to be only a matter of time before he gets a strong singles push.</p><p> </p><p>

Christopher Daniels impressed WCW management with a dark match against Diamond Dallas Page that nearly topped anything on the televised show. Formerly earmarked as strictly enhancement talent, he’s being positioned for a push following the upcoming pay-per-view.</p><p> </p><p>

Speaking of dark matches, Randy Orton has worked the last few weeks before WCW Saturday Night's tapings. We can confirm that he has been officially promoted to the WCW roster, as the first of no doubt many developmental call-ups that management hope to pad out and supplement the roster. He is expected to continue working dark matches as he gets used to the WCW style.</p><p> </p><p>

We're hearing reports that veteran Dave Taylor has also been brought in as enhancement talent, primarily as a veteran for the greener members of the roster to work with and learn from.</p><p> </p><p>

Following a botched surgery, Jamie Knoble is expected to be out even longer — a further month than expected. His timetable for return is late September or October. Chavo Guerrero Jr.’s metatarsal injury is said to be healing well thus far.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>WCW Saturday Night - Week 4, July 2001</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Dark Matches:</strong></p><p> </p><p>

- Norman Smiley, Lash LeRoux, Steve Corino & Crowbar vs Shawn Stasiak, Johnny the Bull, Reno & Dave Taylor (57)</p><p>

- Diamond Dallas Page beat Christopher Daniels (73)</p><p>

- David Flair & Randy Orton beat Jason Jett & D’Lo Brown [developmental tryout] (41)</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Yang vs Kid Romeo - 8:00 (56)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Yun%20Yang_zpswvffbmnj.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Kid%20Romeo_zpszpshi4li.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Both men are out alone, as all three members of XXY and Jung Dragons will compete in singles matches tonight. Romeo’s showboating gets the best of him, with Yang hitting Yang Time from the top rope for a convincing win.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Yang</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Raven’s Nest with Kanyon, Jindrak & Storm (61)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Raven%204_zpsmnr2wxw3.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mark%20Jindrak_zpsxcaxveef.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Lance%20Storm_zpse9m2gxhf.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Raven calls out the other men in this Sunday’s No. 1 Contender’s match. “Chris, you have the heart. Mark, you have the power. Lance, you have the technique. What about Raven?” He smirks knowingly, until Jindrak gets in his face — Kanyon pushes Mark away, and soon it’s an all-out brawl! Storm and Jindrak are cleared from the ring, and Kanyon and Raven stand tall, side by side.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Radicalz discuss opponents (67)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Dean%20Malenko_zpsxxurrxce.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Perry%20Saturn_zps4q1oq0yk.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

The Radicalz are backstage discussing their game-plan for tonight. Eddy notices the camera-man filming them and pushes him away, snarling: “Hey, get out of here, esse! Get your ass out of here!”</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy Kidman & Air Raid vs Shane Helms & 3 Count - 10:00 (65)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Billy%20Kidman_zpsyi1v7mjm.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Air%20Paris_zpsqeeueugl.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/AJ%20Styles_zpsmzruggpb.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shane%20Helms_zpsa1omucvp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shannon%20Moore_zps2iykwdl6.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Evan%20Karagias_zpsiamkvklt.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

An exciting bout with Air Raid showing off a number of spectacular double-team manoeuvres. With the other five men brawling on the outside, Air Styles hits a springboard 450 splash to the outside! He takes out everyone but Helms, who manages to sidestep the fracas and throw Styles back inside. One Vertebreaker later and he picks up the win.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Shane Helms & 3 Count</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: RVD hype reel (42)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Rob%20Van%20Dam_zpsmhyyegx2.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Rob Van Dam is coming to WCW this Sunday at Bash at the Beach. He’s shown practising kicks and flips in an empty ring.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Elix Skipper vs Kaz Hayashi - 10:00 (60)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Elix%20Skipper_zps7ael5m7v.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Kaz%20Hayashi_zps768fz2pd.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Skipper and Hayashi seem evenly-matched, exchanging a number of counters and near-falls. They’re both trading punches on the top rope when Hayashi headbutts Skipper, then delivers a second-rope Hayashi Cutter! Skipper is done, you can count to fifty.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Kaz Hayashi</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: DDP Interview (83)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Gene%20Okerlund%202_zpsini3f2io.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Gene Okerlund is backstage with DDP, and asks him for his thoughts on tonight’s six-man tag main event. “Yo, it’s funny you ask, Mean Gene. I’m going to be doing some special guest commentary for the main event. You’ll know my thoughts then.”</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Raven & Kanyon vs Mark Jindrak & Mike Sanders - 12:00 (72)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Raven%204_zpsmnr2wxw3.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mark%20Jindrak_zpsxcaxveef.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Sanders_zpszscal8ch.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Kanyon’s ribs are still taped up, with Jindrak and Sanders taking turns working the damaged mid-section. Kanyon is able to make a comeback and tag in Raven, who clears house and plants Sanders with the Evenflow DDT for the win.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Raven & Kanyon</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Booker T pep-talk (78)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chuck%20Palumbo_zpsycvvshzr.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Booker T is backstage with the Natural Born Thrillers, hyping them up. “We got the gold, sucka! We’re the champions — and tonight, we’re coming for you, Radicalz!” O’Haire and Palumbo nod approvingly.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kwee Wee vs Yoshihiro Tajiri - 6:00 (54)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Kwee%20Wee_zpsgnkvkwzx.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Yoshihiro%20Tajiri_zpshti5ou0b.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

A short one-sided match where Tajiri gets in all his trademark spots, including the Tarantula, while Kwee Wee freaks out. A Buzzsaw Kick to the head puts him out of his misery, and Tajiri stands tall — a clean 3-0 sweep for the challengers this Sunday!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Yoshihiro Tajiri</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Backstage brawl with Awesome & Morrus (57)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Hugh%20Morrus_zpsmc2y7azt.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Awesome_zpsodanyixf.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Cameras quickly cut backstage, where Mike Awesome and Hugh Morrus are fighting in catering. It seems they can’t wait for Sunday! Security come to break the two up, holding them apart.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Booker T & Natural Born Thrillers vs The Radicalz (Eddy Guerrero, Dean Malenko & Perry Saturn) - 16:00 (84)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chuck%20Palumbo_zpsycvvshzr.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Dean%20Malenko_zpsxxurrxce.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Perry%20Saturn_zps4q1oq0yk.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

DDP is on commentary. The crowd are electric, perceiving all six men as stars. The babyfaces run wild before Malenko cuts Palumbo off, and the Radicalz take turns working on his leg. Chuck finally makes the hot tag to Booker T, who offloads on all three Radicalz, then finishes off Saturn with an Axe Kick in the middle of the ring.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Booker T & Natural Born Thrillers</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: BANG! (82)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chuck%20Palumbo_zpsycvvshzr.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Dean%20Malenko_zpsxxurrxce.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Perry%20Saturn_zps4q1oq0yk.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Malenko and Guerrero hit the ring, and soon all six men are brawling, with Saturn still selling the effects of the Axe Kick. As the Thrillers, Saturn & Malenko spill to the outside, DDP hits the ring and nails Eddy and then Booker with twin Diamond Cutters! Page does his signature “Self-High Five” taunt, standing tall to end the show.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Show rating:</strong> 80</p><p>

<strong>Show comments:</strong> Eight weeks in, the presence of the Radicalz as an effective heel foil is getting key babyfaces such as Booker T, DDP, O'Haire and Palumbo over. As the relaunched WCW approaches its second PPV, there is a sense that momentum is starting to build.</p>

XXY bicker amongst themselves early, with Kwee Wee refusing to start things off with Tajiri. The match’s action is slightly sloppy, perhaps due to big-match nerves, and in the end Kaz hits the Hayashi Cutter on Kwee Wee in the middle of the ring for the pinfall victory.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Kanyon talks to Raven (69)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Raven%204_zpsmnr2wxw3.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Kanyon finds Raven brooding in a corridor alone. “Hey man, I know that tonight there can only be one number one contender, and you gotta do what you gotta do, and I gotta do what I gotta do. But I just want to thank you for having my back the last few weeks, I really appreciate it.” Raven gives Kanyon a strange kind of smile, nodding: “I appreciate it too, Chris.”</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: DDP promo (78)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

DDP talks directly into the camera, addressing both Booker T and Eddy Guerrero. “Eddy, you’ve screwed me three times. Booker, you’ve got lucky twice. Tonight, there’s no more games, no more tricks. Both of you are gonna feel the BANG!”</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>No. 1 Contender for WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Kanyon vs Lance Storm vs Raven vs Mark Jindrak - 18:00 (72)</strong></p><p>

The men pair off to start, with Kanyon fighting Jindrak and Storm fighting Raven. Midway through, Jindrak spears Kanyon hard against the barricades, and he’s seemingly taken out of the match. Storm, Jindrak and Raven exchange big moves, with Storm standing tall — until Kanyon hits the ring like a house on fire and hits the Flatliner! Kanyon is about to make the cover when Raven blindsides him, throws him outside and covers Storm to steal the win.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: New No. 1 Contender for WCW World Heavyweight Championship, Raven</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: A Betrayal (67)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Raven%204_zpsmnr2wxw3.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Raven is celebrating whenever Kanyon enters the ring, looking confused and annoyed. Raven smirks again and simply decks Kanyon, before heading to the outside for a steel chair. He rams the chair over and over into Kanyon’s ribs, yelling: “What did I say, Chris? You gotta -take- what you want!” He lifts Kanyon up, and delivers a brutal Evenflow DDT onto the chair, his head making a sickening thud against the steel.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Hype package for Natural Born Thrillers vs Saturn/Malenko (74)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>WCW World Tag Team Championship: Natural Born Thrillers © vs Dean Malenko & Perry Saturn - 20:00 (76)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chuck%20Palumbo_zpsycvvshzr.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwnewtag_zpsqt466cq9.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Dean%20Malenko_zpsxxurrxce.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Perry%20Saturn_zps4q1oq0yk.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

The Thrillers are in no mood for a slow technical match, and things quickly spill outside. Saturn and Malenko are eventually able to regain control, working on Palumbo and the leg they’d softened in past weeks. Chuck tries to make the hot tag, but Saturn yanks O’Haire off the apron and Malenko applies the Texas Cloverleaf in the middle of the ring. Palumbo struggles but is forced to tap out.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: New WCW World Tag Team Champions, Dean Malenko & Perry Saturn</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: O’Haire & Palumbo argue after loss (70)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chuck%20Palumbo_zpsycvvshzr.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Dean%20Malenko_zpsxxurrxce.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Perry%20Saturn_zps4q1oq0yk.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

As Saturn and Malenko hold their new World Tag Team Championships high in the air, mocking the Natural Born Thrillers, O’Haire and Palumbo are left in the ring alone. They exchange a few cross words, then Palumbo opts to hobble out alone, leaving O’Haire to stare after him.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Shane introduces RVD (64)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shane%20McMahon_zpsywl3l26v.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Rob%20Van%20Dam_zpsmhyyegx2.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Shane McMahon is out on stage and introduces the newest WCW signing: “The Whole Dam Show, Mr. Pay-Per-View, and soon to be… Mr. WCW! Rob Van Dam!” RVD comes out to a healthy ovation, shrugging and walking cockily to the ring.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Rob Van Dam vs Norman Smiley - 12:00 (72)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Rob%20Van%20Dam_zpsmhyyegx2.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Norman%20Smiley_zpsqrirg7bn.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

A showcase match for RVD, who takes his time with Smiley. The crowd start to turn against Van Dam as he showboats and takes liberties with his opponent, rallying behind Smiley. However it’s for naught as RVD hits the Five-Star Frog Splash for the convincing win.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Rob Van Dam</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Radicalz celebration, Eddy promo (74)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Dean%20Malenko_zpsxxurrxce.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Perry%20Saturn_zps4q1oq0yk.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

The Radicalz are backstage still celebrating their World Tag Team title win. Eddy cuts a promo to the camera: “Tonight we’re -all- walking out champions. Now can you dig that… esse?”</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>WCW United States Championship: Hugh Morrus © vs Mike Awesome - 12:00 (64)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Hugh%20Morrus_zpsmc2y7azt.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwus_zps27gz2few.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Awesome_zpsodanyixf.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Mike Awesome is out alone without Lance Storm. A plodding match to begin with, with Awesome keeping Morrus grounded with headlocks and nerve holds. Morrus makes a comeback, trading hard-hitting shots with Awesome until he hits the scoop-slam, goes up top and hits the No Laughing Matter moonsault.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Still WCW United States Champion, Hugh Morrus</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Gene asks Raven… why? (70)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Gene%20Okerlund%202_zpsini3f2io.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Raven%204_zpsmnr2wxw3.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Gene Okerlund has finally caught up with Raven, who is skulking in a dark corridor backstage. “Stealing a pin is one thing, but beating down a friend with a steel chair? They’re taking him off in an ambulance now — why Raven, why?” Raven stares at Gene hard, smiles again then walks away.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Shane Helms © vs Billy Kidman - 18:00 (71)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shane%20Helms_zpsa1omucvp.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwcw_zpswnxbhxzs.png</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Billy%20Kidman_zpsyi1v7mjm.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Helms comes out with 3 Count, but after they trip Kidman in the early stages of the match, the referee orders them to the back. Helms is thrown off his game, and while he’s able to rock Kidman with a few devastating moves, Billy reverses the vertebreaker into an inside cradle for the win! Helms throws a temper-tantrum at ringside.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: New WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Billy Kidman</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Booker T promo (77)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Gene%20Okerlund%202_zpsini3f2io.jpg</span><span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Booker T is pacing back and forth backstage, when Mean Gene asks him for his thoughts on tonight’s match: “My thoughts? My thought is, I’m gonna kick Eddy’s ass, I’m gonna kick Page’s ass, I’m gonna walk out still the WCW Champion and the baddest man in this or any other wrestling federation. Now can you dig that… SUCKA?”</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Hype package for Booker T vs Eddy Guerrero vs DDP (84)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Special entrance for Booker T (93)</strong></p><p>

<span>http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

With Eddy and DDP in the ring, the WCW Champion gets a spectacular entrance — the PPV set’s tiki-torches erupt in flame as four Polynesian war drummers come out and begin thudding on their drums intensely. They chant as the heavy drumbeat quickens to a fever-pitch before Booker’s music plays: “CAN YOU DIG IT, SUCKA?!”</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Booker T © vs Eddy Guerrero vs Diamond Dallas Page - 28:00 (88)</strong></p><p>

A lengthy main event that the crowd positively eat up, responding to all three men with superstar reactions. Eddy takes out DDP early, leaving him to work with Booker for the bulk of the match. Page makes a recovery, and the closing stretch is an exciting three-way exchange of signature spots and moves. In the end, DDP plants Eddy with the Diamond Cutter but falls prey to the Axe-Kick. Booker climbs to the top rope as Eddy stirs, then comes off the top with a Harlem Hangover for the win.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Winner: Still WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Booker T</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Angle: Booker T and DDP shake hands (97)</strong></p><p>

As a defeated Eddy Guerrero crawls up the ramp holding his neck, Booker T celebrates in the middle of the ring, holding his championship high. DDP rolls back into the ring, and the two briefly stare each other down before DDP offers a hand to Booker… who takes it! They shake hands, and DDP raises Booker’s arm as the show goes off the air.</p><p> </p><p>

<p>Those angle grades... Book must be crazy over.</p><p> </p><p>

You've done it though, you've definitely turned a corner. I'm impressed with how all the signings have had an instant impact, but where does Eddy go from here?</p>

His popularity and momentum is skyrocketing, and it doesn't hurt that he's developing great entertainment and in-ring skills to boot. xD</p><p> </p><p> And I'm booked up until October so far, with sketched-out plans up until May 2002, and without revealing anything, Eddy won't be left out in the cold. <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Helps contextualise some things for both you the reader and I the author. Totally not because whilst writing, Booker T's 'five time WCW Champion' catchphrase sprang to mind, but at the last minute I realised he only had four reigns in WCW. <.<</p>
