Weekly News Update - Week 2, October 2001:

The Wall has been granted a contract extension. He is said to be making good progress at rehab, but is still 3-4 months away from returning — the extension is more of a gesture of good faith in him, than a specific intent that big things are in the pipeline for him. Crowbar has also signed a new contract.

Angle: Calling It Quits (83)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shane%20McMahon_zpsywl3l26v.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg

The show opens with Shane McMahon in his office talking to Kanyon. “Chris, I understand your frustrations, but I can’t have you and Raven running amok each week. We have to bring this thing to an end.” Kanyon shakes his head: “I said it last week, it’s not over until he’s -dead.-” Shane stares Kanyon down: “I give WCW competitors some lee-way Chris, but that stops with death and dismemberment. I have an ultimatum for you.”

Shane outlines his idea: “At Halloween Havoc, I’m prepared to scheduled a non-sanctioned match. No count-outs, no disqualifications, no consequences — and it can only end by saying ‘I Quit’. You can only win when you beat your opponent to within an inch of his life, until he can take no more and has to surrender — to admit his nemesis is the better man. How does that sound, Chris?” Kanyon gets a gleam in his eye and nods, slowly grinning: “I like it, Shane. I’m gonna make that son of a bitch bawl his eyes out and beg me for forgiveness… I’m gonna make him say ‘I Quit’.”

Shane nods curtly: “Then it’s official, Kanyon versus Raven at Halloween Havoc in a non-sanctioned ‘I Quit’ match. But until then, I mean what I said about this chaos you two are causing — so if either of you lay even a finger on each other until the pay-per-view, I’m releasing -both- of you from your WCW contracts. I will -fire- you both, I promise. Do you understand?” Kanyon nods once, grunting.

WCW Television Championship - Christopher Daniels © vs Cash - 12:00 (70)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Christopher%20Daniels_zpsp95iqwhj.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/tvtitlefinal_zpsq3efw1na.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/KidKash_zpspejrgzwb.jpg

The Sindicate are at ringside, along with James Mitchell. Daniels takes Cash lightly at first and pays for it, with the match being surprisingly even and competitive. In the end, Cash succumbs to the Angel’s Wings and Daniels wins convincingly.

Winner: Still WCW Television Champion, Christopher Daniels

Angle: Mitchell’s Sermon (46)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Christopher%20Daniels_zpsp95iqwhj.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/James%20Vandenburg_zpsy7ecbgvp.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Johnny%20Stamboli_zpsecufs3bv.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Reno_zpsdn4jocgw.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/KidKash_zpspejrgzwb.jpg

The Sindicate enter the ring at James Mitchell’s command and once again begin dismantling Daniels’ weekly opponent. As Daniels lounges in the corner of the ring, Mitchell warns the locker-room that anyone hoping to snatch the TV title from his client will be beaten down: "in body, in mind and in soul. That is my message to you all — join our glorious crusade, or just stay the -hell- out of our way. The Mitchell Family is here to stay.”

Angle: Uh Oh (84)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Raven%204_zpsmnr2wxw3.jpg

The camera is outside Shane McMahon’s office, when suddenly the door flings open and Raven storms outside, clearly angry. “Non-sanctioned?! ‘I Quit’… I can’t -believe- he’d… ARGH!” He strides down the hallway and flips a nearby table in rage, then continues on his way, shaking with irritation.

Angle: KRONIK SPEAK, YEAH (82)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Brian%20Adams_zps8txes64b.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Bryan%20Clark_zpsymprtd6l.jpg

Brian Adams and Bryan Clark are backstage yelling so hard at the camera that the cameraman holding it is shaking all over the place. “MALENKO, SATURN, YEAH. YOU CAN’T BEAT KRONIK, YOU CAN’T PIN KRONIK. YOU SCREWED US ON THE NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS, BUT WE’RE GETTING OUR FAIR SHOT AT HALLOWEEN HAVOC, YEAH. IT’S GONNA BE HALLOWEEN, AND IT’S GONNA BE HAVOC, BECAUSE WE’LL BE KICKING YOUR ASSES, YEAH. YEAH!” The camera is covered in a thin layer of spittle by the time they’re done.

The Giant vs Norman Smiley - 10:00 (77)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/The%20Giant_zpssep6p12u.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Norman%20Smiley_zpsqrirg7bn.jpg

The Giant starts things off slow, as a screaming Norman Smiley tries to evade his offense. Giant’s long reach eventually catches his opponent, and he makes him pay with slaps to the chest and slams. Giant squashes Smiley at length, delivering a chokeslam and pinning him — but lifting Smiley’s shoulder off the mat at two! “Enough is enough, for God’s sake,” Tenay screams on commentary. Giant deals more punishment to the limp Smiley, hitting him with another chokeslam for good measure — the ref calls off the match as Smiley cannot continue, Giant being awarded the bout by technical knock-out.

Winner: The Giant

Angle: The Next Cruiserweight Challenger (70)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shane%20McMahon_zpsywl3l26v.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/BillyKidmankyky_zpsv3ejofoa.jpg

Shane McMahon is in his office watching the end of the Giant/Smiley match with an uncertain expression on his face. He’s interrupted by Billy Kidman, who asks who he’s defending the WCW Cruiserweight Championship against at Halloween Havoc: “I’ve sort of fallen through the cracks here, Shane, but you know I’ll face anyone.” Shane rubs his jaw thoughtfully and smirks: “Anyone? Alright, Mr. Kidman — next week on WCW Saturday Night, you will hold an open challenge for the Cruiserweight title. And -anyone- eligible can take on that offer. Good luck.” Kidman smiles and nods, liking the idea.

Angle: Giant promo with Gene Okerlund (89)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/The%20Giant_zpssep6p12u.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Gene%20Okerlund%202_zpsini3f2io.jpg

Gene Okerlund is backstage with a sweaty Giant, who roars into the microphone. “You see what I did to Smiley, Shane? I’m gonna squish you like a bug beneath my boots, you don’t stand a chance, rich boy!” He strides off confidently, leaving Okerlund visibly shaken from the yelling.

Yang vs Air Styles vs Elix Skipper - 14:00 (69)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Yun%20Yang_zpswvffbmnj.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/AJ%20Styles_zpsmzruggpb.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Elix%20Skipper_zps7ael5m7v.jpg

The announcers note that after last week’s draw between Air Raid & Jason Jett and XXX, Shane McMahon has signed a three-way trios match for Halloween Havoc. The three men excite with a range of high-flying manuevers inside and outside of the ring. In the end, Styles has Skipper in position for the Styles Clash, but Yang catches him on the button with a superkick and finishes him off with Yang Time from the top rope.

Winner: Yang

Angle: RVD and Storm plan (73)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Rob%20Van%20Dam_zpsmhyyegx2.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Lance%20Storm_zpse9m2gxhf.jpg

Rob Van Dam and Lance Storm are backstage talking strategy for tonight’s main-event. RVD shrugs it off, saying he makes it up as he goes, but Storm will have none of it: “If I can be serious for a moment, I have prepared a series of diagrams outlining the exact techniques that will prove most effective against our opponents tonight.” RVD rolls his eyes and pats Storm on the shoulder: “Don’t worry man, I got this.” He walks off, leaving Storm annoyed.

Sean O’Haire vs Shawn Stasiak (67)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shawn%20Stasiak_zpskrxrdwkr.jpg

The rest of the Dynasty are at ringside, along with Stacy Keibler. O’Haire is pumped up and out for revenge, taking the fight to Stasiak early. When David Flair jumps up on the apron to distract him, O’Haire simply decks him and continues the assault. He climbs up top for the Seanton Bomb, when Orton pushes him off the turnbuckle and he crashes and burns on the mat below! The ref calls for the DQ after the blatant interference.

Winner: Sean O’Haire (by DQ)

Angle: Dynasty promo interrupted! (67)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Miss%20Hancock_zpskrg1mfqy.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shawn%20Stasiak_zpskrxrdwkr.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Randy%20Orton_zpszvizysrk.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/David%20Flair_zpsxcp6wmxl.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpg

A self-satisfied Stacy Keibler is in the ring, grabbing a microphone as the rest of the Dynasty celebrate in the ring like they’ve won a huge victory. “This is why brains will always beat brawn, ladies and gentlemen,” she begins to brag, but is forced to flee as a furious O’Haire hits the ring and clears house on all three Dynasty members. Stacy has a temper tantrum on the ramp, promising revenge.

Angle: Booker and Morrus talk strategy (72)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Hugh%20Morrus_zpsmc2y7azt.jpg

Hugh Morrus walks into Booker T’s locker-room with a pair of goofy oversized glasses and several pieces of paper. With a nasally voice, he notes that computational analysis has revealed the most efficient means of victory. He tears off the glasses and scatters the papers, flashing Booker a grin: “We go in there and we kick their asses six ways to Sunday.” Booker laughs and nods, saying “Now I can dig -that-, sucka.”

Angle: DDP promo interrupted by Eddy (100)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Gene%20Okerlund%202_zpsini3f2io.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpg

Gene Okerlund is backstage with DDP, congratulating him on his win in last week’s tag-team main event. He is about to ask Page his future plans, when Eddy Guerrero slinks into view with his United States Championship, sneering. “You got lucky last week, ese. You better watch yourself holmes, and you better not mess with me. Otherwise you’ll get -unlucky-, man.”

DDP looks at Eddy thoughtfully, then smirks. “You know bro, I am feeling lucky. I guess we’ll find out what happens when I mess with you at Halloween Havoc and take that US Heavyweight title from you for good.” Eddy scoffs and grips his title close, leaving in a hurry.

Booker T & Hugh Morrus vs Rob Van Dam & Lance Storm - 20:00 (78)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Hugh%20Morrus_zpsmc2y7azt.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Rob%20Van%20Dam_zpsmhyyegx2.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Lance%20Storm_zpse9m2gxhf.jpg

Storm and RVD bicker to begin with, Van Dam content to showboat and refuse to tag his partner in. Booker brings the fight to RVD however, and he’s forced to tag out to Storm, who begins to wear down the WCW Champion. Booker makes the hot tag to Morrus, who clears house on both men. Van Dam decides he’s had enough, rolling out of the ring and walking to the back. Storm is left to be double-teamed, as Booker hits the Axe Kick and Morrus squashes him with No Laughing Matter from the top rope.

Winner: Booker T & Hugh Morrus

Show rating: 84

Huge fan of this diary! So far the Funkster has been my boy, but I'm looking at adding another boy in Dr. Nick Dinsmore. I know potential when I see it! Lol. Also, I rather like how you've booked the Giant so far. I always felt he was misused for his talent. Glad he got his break by throwing people around backstage.

My guesses:

WCW Saturday Night - Week 3, October 2001

Diamond Dallas Page & Kanyon vs Los Guerreros

Brian Adams vs Perry Saturn

WCW Cruiserweight Championship - Open Challenge

Billy Kidman © vs Chavo Guerrero Jr. <- [double duty?!] vs Mike Sanders vs Shane Helms

Bryan Clark vs Dean Malenko

XXX vs Jung Dragons

WCW Television Championship

Christopher Daniels © vs Dr. Nick Dinsmore <- [he will come back]

Angle: Booker/RVD contract signing (95)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Rob%20Van%20Dam_zpsmhyyegx2.jpg

Arn Anderson is out on behalf of Shane McMahon, who he explains is preparing for his bout with the Giant at Halloween Havoc. Booker and RVD stare each other down before signing their names on the contract, exchanging tense words. “I’ve knocked down challenger after challenger — nobody can beat me when I lay that Big Gold Belt on the line,” Booker exclaims. “What makes you think you’re different, huh?”

RVD simply shrugs and explains slowly, as if he’s talking to a child: “I am Mr. Saturday Night, Mr. Pay-Per-View, Mr. WCW, the Whole Dam Show, and your next WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Why? Because I’m Rob… Van… Dam, dude.” He grins, pointing to himself smugly. Booker flips the table, throwing his championship belt to the ground: “You got a dozen little nicknames and no balls, dog. Let’s do this right now.” RVD shrugs again and turns to leave, but Booker gets the jump on him, tossing him from the ring and holding the WCW World Heavyweight Championship high in the air.

WCW Television Championship: Christopher Daniels © vs Dr. Nick Dinsmore - 10:00 (66)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Christopher%20Daniels_zpsp95iqwhj.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/tvtitlefinal_zpsq3efw1na.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/drnick_zpsijjsnsof.jpg

Dr. Nick Dinsmore is out in surgeon’s scrubs, and begins systematically dissecting Daniels with a series of holds and locks targeting the knee. A limping Daniels begins to reel under the pressure, and Dinsmore catches him with a bridging German suplex for a near-fall so close that James Mitchell is throwing a fit outside. He aims to finish off the TV Champion with a jumping cutter, but Daniels struggles against the facelock and hits him with a covert low-blow with his leg. The wily Daniels finishes off his opponent with Angel’s Wings.

Winner: Christopher Daniels

Angle: Medic! (57)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Christopher%20Daniels_zpsp95iqwhj.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/James%20Vandenburg_zpsy7ecbgvp.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Johnny%20Stamboli_zpsecufs3bv.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Reno_zpsdn4jocgw.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/drnick_zpsijjsnsof.jpg

The moment the bell rings, a furious James Mitchell sics the Sindicate on Dr. Nick Dinsmore, and Johnny the Bull and Reno have their way with the ring surgeon as Daniels recuperates in the corner. They leave him laying with a double-team spike powerbomb, causing Dinsmore to hold up the dreaded X sign for himself, as EMTs run to the ring to assist him.

We see a tracksuit-clad Shane McMahon jogging outdoors in Connecticut, as his voiceover explains that “I may not be stronger than the Giant, but I’m quicker. He can’t hit what he can’t catch.” He’s in a gym now, sparring with an opponent holding up boxing pads, and hitting a punching bag with a succession of quick jabs: “I’ve got to float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.”

XXX vs Jung Dragons - 16:00 (64)

Two-thirds of the trios three-way at Halloween Havoc collide, with Romeo getting an early advantage on Hayashi. XXX take turns working on Kaz, beginning to wear down the neck with chin-locks and neckbreakers. Hayashi tries to make the hot-tag on several occasions, but XXX are just a step ahead at all times — Knoble yanks Tajiri from the apron, and when Yang dives onto him, Skipper and Romeo hurriedly hit Kaz with a double-team move reminiscent of the Hart Attack to score the quick pin. XXX celebrate like they just won the titles, as the Dragons look disappointed with the setback.

Winner: XXX

Angle: Keibler Challenges O’Haire (89)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Miss%20Hancock_zpskrg1mfqy.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpg

Stacy Keibler is on her phone backstage when a brooding shadow towers over her: it’s Sean O’Haire, and in a bad mood. Keibler flinches, demanding: “You wouldn’t hit a woman, would you?” O’Haire shakes his head, snorting: “No, but I’d hit a man. Three of them. I want Dynasty at Halloween Havoc. I want all of them, at once.” Keibler breaks down into hysterical laughter, as if O’Haire were a madman: “You don’t know what you’ve just agreed to, poor sweet Sean.” O’Haire stares her down and leaves, making it clear he’s aware exactly of what he’s in for next Sunday.

Bryan Clark vs Dean Malenko - 12:00 (75)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Bryan%20Clark_zpsymprtd6l.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Dean%20Malenko_zpsxxurrxce.jpg

Adams and Saturn are in their partners’ corners, with Malenko warding off Clark’s initial attacks and slowing the pace of the match. He applies a succession of armbars designed to weaken his right arm, but Clark seems to shrug off the pain and begin a clobbering comeback. Malenko gets desperate, starting to fight dirty by raking Clark’s eyes — his incensed opponent bull-rushes him into the corner and peppers him with strike after strike, the referee reaching a five-count and having to disqualify Clark. As Saturn yanks Malenko out of the ring to safety, Adams tries to calm his partner down just a little.

Winner: Dean Malenko (by DQ)

Angle: Can’t Touch This — Stop, Raven Time (88)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Raven%204_zpsmnr2wxw3.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg

Kanyon is backstage deep in thought, when Raven saunters up coolly: “Hello, Chris.” Kanyon’s first instinct seems to be to pounce on him, but he barely holds himself back as Raven laughs: “No, you may not touch me. Not if you value your livelihood, my friend.” Kanyon scowls at him: “I’m not your friend. Not anymore.” Raven tuts at him: “A shame. You will find at Halloween Havoc that I am -far- more dangerous as an enemy than I as a friend. It will be so sweet, so satisfying to hear you scream ‘I Quit’.” He chuckles and leaves, as Kanyon bristles, clearly wishing he could have laid hands on his nemesis.

Angle: Open Challenge Accepted (67)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/BillyKidmankyky_zpsv3ejofoa.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Crowbar_zps6tk65odi.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Daffney_zpsazzcbjza.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Sanders_zpszscal8ch.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shane%20Helms_zpsa1omucvp.jpg

Billy Kidman is out for the Cruiserweight open challenge, when Crowbar’s music hits and he comes out to ringside with Daffney, pumped up and ready to go. As the two get ready to square off, Mike Sanders interrupts:*“Hang on, hang on. I want a shot, I want what’s fair for me. Crowbar, he’s alright — but Mike Sanders is Above Average.” Sanders joins the two when 3 Count’s music starts and Shane Helms walks down: “I’m the former WCW Cruiserweight Champion, I want my rematch. I don’t give a damn about these other two jabronis.” Kidman looks from Crowbar to Sanders to Helms, and smiles, grabbing a microphone: “I’ll fight you, and you, -and- you. Four-way dance, let’s do this.”

WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Billy Kidman © vs Shane Helms vs Mike Sanders vs Crowbar - 14:00 (73)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwcw_zpswnxbhxzs.png

Helms and Sanders strike an informal pact at the match’s beginning, double-teaming Kidman then Crowbar and controlling the match. The temporary alliance quickly dissolves when Sanders tries a sneaky schoolboy on Helms, who begins brawling with him in response. Things escalate into a four-way melee, but as Crowbar takes Sanders out with a cactus clothesline to the outside, Kidman hits the Kid Krusher on Helms for the clean title retention.

Winner: Still WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Billy Kidman

Angle: Shane McMahon training vignette 2 (82)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shane%20McMahon_zpsywl3l26v.jpg

We see Shane McMahon again, this time training in a wrestling ring with an uncredited Charlie Haas. Shane displays impressive and uncharacteristic chain-wrestling skills, as his voiceover explains: “It’s been months since my last match, but I’ve trained non-stop. Giant might just find that I’ve got surprises up my sleeve.” We see him give Haas a DDT, then climb to the top for a big flying elbow. “There’s a saying: the bigger they are, the harder they fall. Giant may be big, but next Sunday at Halloween Havoc, he’s gonna fall, and fall hard.”

Angle: La Familia talk (73)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chavo%20Guerrero%20Jr_zpseehinxo8.jpg

Los Guerrreros are backstage conversing in fluent Spanish. I can’t translate unfortunately, but they appear to pump each other up until Eddy is pacing back and forth like a madman. He grabs his championship belt and barks “vamanos” to Chavo, who nods and follows.

Angle: DDP & Kanyon chat (76)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg

Kanyon is still backstage in the same place as earlier, and DDP walks up to talk: “Yo Kanyon, we got a match tonight. You’ve got to get your head in the game, man — stop thinking about Raven, stop playing mind-games with him. In eight nights, you get to kick his ass. Tonight? We kick some Guerrero ass.” Kanyon nods in response, though it’s clear his thoughts are still distracted.

Diamond Dallas Page & Kanyon vs Los Guerreros (79)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chavo%20Guerrero%20Jr_zpseehinxo8.jpg

An agitated Kanyon unloads on Eddy in the beginning, forcing the veteran to bail to the outside. When Kanyon follows, Eddy throws him against the steel steps and the Guerreros begin working on Kanyon’s ribs. Chavo gets a bit too cocky playing around with his opponent, and Kanyon is able to make the tag to DDP, who decimates both men and nails Chavo with a Diamond Cutter. BANG! Eddy is moments too late in breaking up the pin, and can only scowl at Page, who is grinning ear to ear at him.

Winner: Diamond Dallas Page & Kanyon

Hugh Morrus was sidelined with a sprained ankle after defeating Evan Karagias on the WCW Worldwide tapings. This threw the WCW management into chaos, with Saturday Night being rewritten the day of the show to remove the planned Raven/Morrus match, along with changing the planned Booker/Storm main event into a larger six-man tag that would incorporate elements of the Kanyon/Raven feud. Morrus' injury seems comparatively minor, and should keep him out of the ring between one and two weeks, but it's yet another wrench in the works of recent WCW booking.

WCW did not deliver last week's promised Brian Adams vs Perry Saturn match, and along with confusion relating to the nature of its Cruiserweight Open Challenge, there are murmurs backstage wondering whether the creative momentum sustained thus far is being squandered, and whether WCW might be headed back to the bad old days of outright mismanagement and incompetence. One thing is for certain -- if WCW continues to waste its fans goodwill and change promised match-ups, it may soon find that the renewed interest it has generated simply fades into the ether once more.

Speaking of Cruiserweight Open Challenges, we can exclusively reveal that Billy Kidman will be once again defending the title against a mystery opponent, this time at WCW Halloween Havoc. We're hearing reports that this time the opponent is not a current roster member, and is instead a former WCW Cruiserweight being brought in to bolster the roster.

Backstage reports also claim that WCW management are planning some sort of convoluted means to name a Number 1 Contender for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at Starrcade on the next pay-per-view, Mayhem. The exact quote was 'like WCW's Royal Rumble' -- whether this means a similar match type or indeed the return of WCW's World War Three battle-royal is uncertain (the current roster falls short of even 60 men). We'll simply have to bide our time and hope for an announcement soon.

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Raven%204_zpsmnr2wxw3.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Rob%20Van%20Dam_zpsmhyyegx2.jpg

Booker T is out first, cutting a promo on Rob Van Dam, his opponent this Sunday: “If you think I’m going to lose this World Championship belt to some damn skippy hippy, you be higher than he is, dog.” He’s interrupted by Raven, and asks him: “What the hell do you want, sucka?” Raven is about to answer when Kanyon’s music hits and he strides down to ringside, getting in Raven’s face. Raven glowers, reminding him: “You can’t touch me, Chris. Don’t even think about laying a single finger on me. Don’t even -breathe- on me.”

An indignant Rob Van Dam interrupts next, making it four in the ring: “Hey, isn’t everyone forgetting about me? This is my moment, this Sunday I’m gonna win the WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Why? Because I’m Rob—“ Booker decks his challenger, and as Raven and Kanyon stare each other down, as if they’re ready to fight, Shane McMahon comes out on stage. “Hold on just a minute, this isn’t going down tonight — you’re gonna have to wait for Sunday.”

The crowd boos a little, but Shane promises them that they’ll see Booker T, Rob Van Dam and Kanyon all in action tonight. “And you, Raven? I’ve heard enough of you baiting Kanyon into attacking you, I see the game you’re playing. So tonight, you have the night off. Get out of my building.” Raven gives him an agitated glare, then turns and leaves through the crowd.

Jason Jett & Air Raid vs Jung Dragons - 12:00 (67)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Jason%20Jett_zps6hr24h9b.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/AJ%20Styles_zpsmzruggpb.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Air%20Paris_zpsqeeueugl.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Kaz%20Hayashi_zps768fz2pd.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Yun%20Yang_zpswvffbmnj.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Yoshihiro%20Tajiri_zpshti5ou0b.jpg

Jung Dragons face their other challengers this Sunday, and wary after last week’s loss, they begin working a more vicious grounded style. The crowd gravitate to Jett & Air Raid as the natural babyfaces in the bout, with the Dragons gradually wearing down Air Styles. Styles makes the tag to Jason Jett, who runs wild with dropkicks and hurricanranas before putting Tajiri away with the Crash Landing suplex for the win! The Dragons have been pinned by both sets of challengers this Sunday, and look none too happy about it.

Winner: Jason Jett & Air Raid

Angle: WORK OUT, YEAH (77)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Brian%20Adams_zps8txes64b.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Bryan%20Clark_zpsymprtd6l.jpg

KroniK are backstage pumping weights. Lots of weights. Adams is curling two dumbbells while Clark does bench presses, each groaning, growling and yelling the occasional “YEAH” at nobody in particular. It seems they’re completely ready for their WCW World Tag Team Championship match this Sunday.

WCW Television Championship: Christopher Daniels © vs Norman Smiley - 16:00 (64)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Christopher%20Daniels_zpsp95iqwhj.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/tvtitlefinal_zpsq3efw1na.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Norman%20Smiley_zpsqrirg7bn.jpg

As the men lock up, the commentators note that it was a loss to Smiley that drove a furious Daniels into the arms of James Mitchell. Smiley is having fun outgrappling the Television Champion in the early going, but Daniels turns the tables with a series of stiff shots and hard suplexes. The bout is surprisingly even, with Smiley locking in a Crossface Chickenwing that almost forces the Champion to tap — he reaches the ropes with one foot, breaking the hold. Mitchell climbs up on the apron to yell at Smiley, who is distracted long enough for Daniels to nail him from behind and hit the Last Rites.

Winner: Still WCW Television Champion, Christopher Daniels

Angle: Sindicate Thwarted! (48)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Christopher%20Daniels_zpsp95iqwhj.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/James%20Vandenburg_zpsy7ecbgvp.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Johnny%20Stamboli_zpsecufs3bv.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Reno_zpsdn4jocgw.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Norman%20Smiley_zpsqrirg7bn.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Crowbar_zps6tk65odi.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Steve%20Corino_zpsygtipuas.jpg

As in the past, James Mitchell gestures for Johnny the Bull and Reno to have their way with Daniels’ fallen opponent, but before they can lay hands on Smiley, Crowbar and a returning Steve Corino rush to ringside and clear house on the Sindicate! Corino grabs a microphone and lays down a challenge for the Television Championship at Halloween Havoc: “You fractured my skull, Daniels, but that’s nothing compared to what I’ll do to you.” Mitchell cockily accepts, though a wary Daniels doesn’t seem so sure.

Angle: Giant promo (100)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/The%20Giant_zpssep6p12u.jpg

Giant is backstage watching a TV monitor playing last week’s Shane McMahon training vignettes. He simply leans forward and pushes the TV off its stand, causing it to smash on the floor and short. He turns to face the camera, staring it down: “Shane McMahon, you honestly think you can beat me? You can run around, do your little dance, throw your little punches… but you can’t hide from -me-. This Sunday, I’m gonna give you the ass-kicking of a lifetime, rich boy.”

Rob Van Dam vs Dr. Nick Dinsmore - 8:00 (66)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Rob%20Van%20Dam_zpsmhyyegx2.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/drnick_zpsijjsnsof.jpg

An exhibition-style bout, with Van Dam taking his time with his opponent and showcasing his signature spots. Dinsmore briefly rallies with a series of clotheslines and suplexes, but RVD puts him down with a spinning kick and heads up top for the Five Star Frog Splash and the easy victory.

Winner: Rob Van Dam

Eddy Guerrero, Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn and Chavo Guerrero Jr. are backstage discussing their opponents for this Sunday. We can’t hear what they’re saying, but Eddy appears to be chewing Chavo out and yelling at him, before pointing to his United States title and to the World Tag Team Titles, nodding in determination.

Sean O’Haire, Lash LeRoux & Cash vs The Dynasty - 10:00 (73)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Lash%20LeRoux_zpsl3xgf7yl.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/KidKash_zpspejrgzwb.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shawn%20Stasiak_zpskrxrdwkr.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Randy%20Orton_zpszvizysrk.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/David%20Flair_zpsxcp6wmxl.jpg

Sean O’Haire dominates the Dynasty in the early going, but they manage to use numbers to cut him off and begin to wear him down with headlocks. O’Haire makes the tag to Lash LeRoux, who briefly runs wild on Flair and Stasiak before falling prey to the latter’s Perfect Plant facebuster. O’Haire tries to break the count, but Orton grabs his leg to hold him in place, and the referee counts three.

Winner: The Dynasty

Angle: Stacy’s Seduction (72)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Miss%20Hancock_zpskrg1mfqy.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shawn%20Stasiak_zpskrxrdwkr.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Randy%20Orton_zpszvizysrk.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/David%20Flair_zpsxcp6wmxl.jpg

O’Haire throws Orton around after the bell, and knocks Flair and Stasiak to the outside. He’s interrupted by Stacy Keibler, who enters the ring and begins to dance provocatively for him. O’Haire looks more confused than intrigued, even after she teases off her top to reveal the snowy white bra below. David Flair tries to get the jump on O’Haire, but he plants him hard with a spinebuster right in front of the half-naked Stacy, whose seductive veneer crumbles — she screams and curses him.

Angle: DDP promo (86)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Gene%20Okerlund%202_zpsini3f2io.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpg

Gene Okerlund is backstage with Diamond Dallas Page, and asks him whether he’s ready for Eddy Guerrero this Sunday. “Mean Gene,” DDP smirks, “I was born ready. I’ve beat his little cousin Chavo countless times, I’ve beat Eddy himself — all we need to do is step between those ropes, put the title on the line, and… BANG! New WCW United States Champion. And that’s not a bad thing, that’s a good thing,” he adds, with a cheerful grin.

Booker T, Kanyon & Billy Kidman vs Lance Storm & Double Trouble - 20:00 (83)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/BillyKidmankyky_zpsv3ejofoa.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Lance%20Storm_zpse9m2gxhf.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mark%20Jindrak_zpsxcaxveef.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Sanders_zpszscal8ch.jpg

Jindrak dominates in the beginning, swatting Kidman out of the sky like a fly when he tries a missile dropkick. He grinds down the Cruiserweight Champion with slams and hard shots, before tagging out to Storm, who keeps the pressure on with submission holds. Kidman eventually makes the tag to a revved-up Kanyon, who unloads on all three opponent while yelling: “This is what I’m gonna do to you, Raven!” He tags in to Booker, who clears the ring of Storm and Jindrak, and hits Sanders with an Axe Kick for the victory.

Winner: Booker T, Kanyon & Billy Kidman

Angle: RVD stands tall (86)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Rob%20Van%20Dam_zpsmhyyegx2.jpg

Kanyon and Kidman depart, leaving Booker in the middle of the ring. He motions for a microphone, and begins to speak when Rob Van Dam slides out from the crowd and catches him from behind with a cheap-shot. RVD goes up top and hits him with the Five Star Frog Splash, before grabbing the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and posing with it, as if he’d already won it. This Sunday, he just might.
