Unexpected Successes and Failures

talk about the one wrestler who didn't look like much take off to stardom, or the one who failed to meet expectations.

In my SWF game, I signed Ricky DeColt (For a huge pricet ag), but he never seemed to gel in either Canada or the United States. Meanwhile, Al Coleman and Marc Speed were signed as tag team, but now within a year game time, are very over singles competitors.

I will say though, I put him and Christian Price in a tag match in Canada, when I ran a show there, and they got high 70s low 80s for their performance. </p><p> </p><p> On this topic though, in TGA I signed Ted DiBiase, Rick Rude, and Curt Hennig to form a Money Inc stable, and it seems that every match Rick Rude gets dinged for drug usage, but it's not bad enough, yet, for it to prompt an incident before the show begins.</p>

I really thought Anguish would be a great signing for ZEN. Putting someone a bit more monstrous on that roster seemed like it had a lot of potential. Unfortunately, he couldn't really have good matches with anyone. The only thing he did that rated well was Monster Unleashed angles, which just held down other guys. I eventually had him lose to some jobber and sent him packing.

On the other side, I signed Vortex essentially as temporary Enhancement talent hoping to settle in as a Lower Midcard staple, but he improved performance and started getting over enough that he's now one half of my tag team champions with Buckminster Snark.

One of my owner goals in my TCW game was to get Freddy Huggins up to a 71 pop in a year and a half (I think that was the time period).

Seven months later he's main eventing vs Golden with a pop around 91. I lost Wolf to USPW early and Huggins just slid right into his place.

<p>I really thought it'd be easy to get Shinsuke Nakamura, AJ Styles, and Kevin Owens over, but for some reason, their in-ring performances just aren't indicative of what we all know they can do. 40s and 50s for KO and Nakamura, and 60s for Styles.</p><p> </p><p>

My most shocking success has to be Shiima Xion, who's been improving on the mic every night, and has brought the prestige of the Million Dollar championship from the 30s to the 50s.</p>

<p>In SWF, Remo has been totally disappointing as champion. First against Gilmore, then Rogue & Gilmore, title matches topped out at 81. Then against Valiant, they're getting dinged for lack of selling, but those were 81 & 78.</p><p> </p><p>

That said, Valiant is one huge success story. He was supposed to just be a filler opponent for Remo until I got ready for Remo/Bruce for Supreme Challenge, but his first promo was 100, so I got behind him and now he's 86 Overness average across the US and can consistently promo at that level.</p><p> </p><p>

Additionally, the tag division has been nuts, pulling an 85 rated match at The World Is Watching in April 2016 with a triple threat between The Awesomeness, Bumfholes and Platinum Blondes. Unfortunately, USPW just signed Zimmy Bumfhole from me (stupid Richard Eisen blocking me from keeping anyone) so now instead of a 4-way match at Supreme Challenge (also with Hero Squad), it'll probably just be 3-way.</p><p> </p><p>

In something of combo blessing/curse, the tag belt (which I made Floating level) has risen and the world title has fallen to where they're equally prestigious (78). If I hadn't already planned out to Supreme Challenge, I'd shift some plans around to compensate.</p>

<p>my biggest disappointments are 2 talented random gen workers that have great stats overall, but turned out to have crappy stamina. One I've had 2.5 yrs and he still can't exceed 6 minutes without a note.</p><p> </p><p>

Next biggest disappointment is Danny Patterson. Right before I was going to put the title on him and give him a big pop boost beating someone rated 25 more than him, he decided to get obese and some of his stats went down. He refused to lose weight. I gave the title to Marshall instead.</p><p> </p><p>

Biggest surprise is Garry the entertainer. He is gold for me and has worked to the upper card, will likely get a title in the next year or two. Trying to find a good tag partner for him. Second biggest is Ross Henry. He starts with good overness (72 I think), but I didn't expect him to be as talented as he is. He has been gold for me as long as I pair him with someone with decent psych. He just lost the title after a 14 month run (I do 4-5 shows/month with him defending at least 1/mo) and will likely get it back after a few months. He's done a few matches in the 80s and promos/angles as high as 98 and the lowest the prestige was during his run was 95. Despite his loss, he kept his popularity and all 5 of the other workers he feuded with in December bumped up to the 70s in the region. Talk about magic. They were mostly 50s before. Given that I'm regional, I'm shocked he hasn't been poached.</p><p> </p><p>

In a different sense, I was surprised to see that Jacob Jett is a free agent again and has been for quite some time. Thought he was on my shortlist, but I guess not as I had no idea. After he took the award for best indy wrestler, I'm signing him up.</p><p> </p><p>

Also in another sense, Henry Bennett is someone I did a short term deal with to use as a gatekeeper, but found to be more useful and signed him long term. Despite his age he shows rapid improvement, carries a lot of matches and has several people he now mentors, giving advice to as many as 3/show and sometimes at things he's not even that great at.</p><p> </p><p>

Most interesting has been El Jaguar. He was a steal early on and established the X title as the first champ and greatly increased prestige. Then I hit small and he became a liability and I haven't found a great use for him since. He's still around upper/main, but probably only wins 50% of the time now, whereas before He nearly always won. I use him much less frequently as well as he botches things, complains a lot, and his grades aren't as good anymore. He'll probably quit or be cut soon.</p>

Angles seem to be able to be abused really easily in 2016, I swear he gets A or A* every single time I put him in an entertainment angle. I also got a 93 rated match out of him vs Austin Smooth. They are both only Upper Midcarders right now, I think I need to make Lucha III a Main Eventer. He ranked higher on the Power 500 than 75% of my Main Event, but at the same time, he's the reason my US title picture is so great. He also got a 98 against Freddy Huggins... at this rate my US title (floating) will have more prestige than my World title. </p><p> </p><p> Then again, I've had A* in-ring performances from Gargantuan in a Perf=Pop company, so I don't know, storylines are ridiculous I guess?</p>

My biggest success in my RTG game.

He won the belt by mistake [i clicked the wrong winner.]

He kept it by mistake [i forgot to put it on the line in the rematch.]

He is without a doubt my FRANCHISE PLAYER

hmm, I've had him from the start as a rarely used jobber. i'll have to try a push.

<p>Failure? Edd Stone, without a doubt. I snatched him away from TCW while he was out with a shattered knee. Give him surgery as soon as I get him, and it cuts his recovery time down to a month and a half. Sounds great, but as soon as he comes back he's developed a pain killer addiction, and I've got to send him to rehab to kick the habit, and now he's gone for even longer than the original injury.</p><p> </p><p>

As far as successes go, I'd probably say Rick Law. I only signed him to steal some star power away from USPW, but he's quietly turned into one of my top babyfaces. I originally had him feud with The Crippler, and he lost two straight months but still gained popularity. Then, in my second big storyline, which was a face Remo and Mikey Lau against the heel authority figure Adrian Garcia, Remo suffers a broken neck. Now, I need a new partner for Mikey, and with Jack Bruce fighting for the title, I slipped Law in there and he's thrived so much that next month I'm having him fight for the belt. He won't win (That'll be Mikey the month after), but I expect a quality brawl between him and Joey Morgan.</p>

<p>Reggie Bishop. He's typically a guy I get rid of in my ACPW games, but this time around he was cheap and I needed cheap guys. Against all odds, his Redneck gimmick got Legendary, he discovered Great chemistry teaming with Marcel LaFleur, and good chemistry with Joy DeWitt. They utterly killed it in High Spots matches on the undercard, and even delivered in main event positions. They've been my tag champs for almost a year and I can't get enough of them.</p><p> </p><p>

Never thought I'd see the day.</p>

Derrick Dukes is definitely my unexpected success on my AWA save. Originally brought him in on a one night deal to fight Dennis Condrey at SuperClash III (1987) and they got a 62 rating which was decent so I thought I'd sign him up. He started off jobbing to established members of the roster and teaming with random people to lose to my established tag teams, I then placed him in a tag team with Sam Houston because I had no plans for them both but as a team they began to gain momentum and are now challenging Buddy Rose & Doug Somers for the Tag team belts, Dukes is now 60s all round in the USA which is enough for him to be auto-pushed to the main event!

Unexpected failures however were The Warrior and Sting. Couldn't get anything going with both men in singles action so eventually put them in a tag team but they still wasn't doing well as expected. Sting decided to leave 6 months into his contract and signed an exclusive deal with UWF. The Warrior stuck around until February with his last appearance being on my B-show teaming with D.J. Peterson against HBK and Mark Callous. Peterson was having good chemistry with everyone he teamed with apart from The Warrior so I decided to release The Warrior. In September 1988 I considered giving The Warrior a new run with AWA so I signed him to a one night deal for a pre-show match against Scott Levy at my AWA Masters Of Muscle PPV but during the match I got a road agent note saying The Warrior was showing true unprofessionalism during the match with Levy so I decided against bringing him back.

<p>In my real world WWE save, Jack Swagger is rising up the ranks pretty quickly. He is also a quick learner as far as skill progression. I have him as a disgruntled heel who is hell bent on proving the world wrong about him being a jobber/loser. He really is excelling in his role and has been part of some really good matches and angles.</p><p> </p><p>

I expect him to be a full on main eventer in the next few months at this rate.</p><p> </p><p>

I'm almost tempted to give him MITB <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> But I will refrain from pushing too fast <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Rusev is also killing it in my stage. Didn't take long before he became main event status. That a boy!</p>

He showed up high and unusable to a show once so I suspended him, and then again was caught smoking backstage so I suspended him again. Him, Angle and R-Truth were problems. I ended up firing Truth and Swagger is on his last strike.</p>

I've currently got no plans for Jack Swagger so he's off TV but his skills are actually really good. He's just wrestling on the pre-show at the minute but as soon as I can get him paired up with a decent manager and come up with a storyline and get rid of that stupid Patriot gimmick then he'll be definitely something to work with. I can imagine him being a success for me too looking at him.

<p>In my GENADI montreal aftermath save, Ken Shamrock is better than what I thought he would be, it seems his increase in size has made him a bit of a sleeper, 83 sq and 84 charisma, he is going to be my next King Of The Ring..</p><p> </p><p>

In developmental, Super Nova and Joe E. Legend deserve honourable mentions, and to a lesser extent, Joey Matthews & Christopher York, a very promising face tag team, both around 70 sq and charisma already, and still lightweights, so a few size ups ala Shamrock in years to come, and they may reach the very top..</p><p> </p><p>

I am only six months in, so no disastrous signings yet..</p>

Ricky DeColt was the biggest disappointment in my current SWF -- I couldn't get him out of the Enhancement Talent/Opener range -- but things turned around once I started touring Canada. Like Bret Hart, he gets huge pops whenever we head north. He's been rising quickly ever since.

Scythe has failed to take off despite months of Menace-based attacks and a program with Jack Bruce. I'm not sure what the problem is outside of an average-rated gimmick.

I threw the World Heavyweight belt on the Crippler as an interim champion, but every segment and match he touches turns into gold. The same goes for Jefferson Stardust. A short singles push saw him rocket from Midcard to Main Event in just two months.

  • 1 year later...
My best success has just happened in my 1987 to 1988 awa game. In one month i had the Lucha Dragons (Rey Mysterio Sr and Fuerza Guerrera) shoot to 100 pop in Mexico after they beat Dusty and Dustin twice on PPV(in the US). The problem is they have not improved as much in the US they are both around 70 in most regions

In my current TCW save, Reggie Tate and Nathan McKenzie had great chemistry teaming together. Initially had no plans for them, but they keep improving in the ring and their overness is shooting up. Booking them like a cross between New Day and Chad Gable/Jason Jordan. Just super athletic guys.

Might do a house show scouting session to see if they have chem as opponents.

Right now I'm going to try and get them over enough to beat Killer Shark and Titan. They're currently in chase mode.
