[1991] Rising Storms 2k16

It's January 1st, 1991. The wrestling world doesn't know it yet, but everything is about to change.

The past half decade has been the biggest boom period in wrestling history. Despite a recession, the World Wrestling Federation, the global leader in wrestling based in the United States, has seen its fortunes shoot through the roof. Their success has largely been built on the strength of Hulk Hogan's popularity and the growth of WrestleMania. The territory system is all but dead, with only a few promotions still holding onto the NWA banner. Notably, World Championship Wrestling, the successor company to Jim Crockett Promotions now owned by TBS, Inc., still carriers the torch for the NWA. For how much longer is anyone's guess.

Throughout the United States, countless independent promotions continue to spring up and gasp for air. A promoter from New York, Herb Abrams, has resurrected the UWF name due to lack of copyright protection and conned a broadcaster into distributing his show despite a lack of big budget production.

Japan is entering its own golden age; a golden age of heavyweights for All Japan and Junior Heavyweights for New Japan. With aces like Tsuruta still in their prime, legends like Inoki, Baba and Andre the Giant still working tours and young stars like Misawa, Kawada, Liger, Chono and Muta all rising up the card, the 90s are shaping up to be perhaps the greatest decade in the history of Japanese wrestling.

Additionally, the growth of Japanese independent wrestling is unprecedented. Hardcore "garbage" feds like W*NG and FMW are blazing a new trail in wrestling while men like Tenryu try to break the stranglehold of the big two. Joshi Puroresu is stealing the show with women like Bull Nakano, Reggie Bennett, Akira Hokuto and many others putting on matches that rival the men.

Still, storms are rising in the wrestling world. Storms capable of doing significant damage. How the wrestling world is shaped at the end is anyone's guess, but one thing is certain: night is falling on the Golden Era and the dawn will bring with it certain change.

Data Usage Guidelines

This data is considered "protected use" only. If you would like to use this data to form a base for a mod you intend to release, please send me a private message for permission.

Credits:

Hive for allowing me to use his original work as a base for mine. His work is excellent and he's a control freak and Sting fan like me. He also is the only reason the nGo pack exists today!

Genadi for his work that was used to import missing workers and as a reference, not to mention his general guidance and direction.

Burninghamster for his 1996 data which was used as a strong reference.

MattShannon for his work on the Dallas Add-On that has helped freshen the game world and give workers new venues to fill (plus some organic worker pics).

Oyaji for his EXTENSIVE testing and help with adjusting Japan in TEW13.

TheAsylum for revamping the female workers in the mod.

Mr.Creative for putting up with my continued requests for assistance.

ElMitico for helping me with major corrections to the Mexican wrestling scene.

TEWFan for input on Puerto Rico

TsuMirren for work on the UK scene

All individuals who volunteered for beta testing. Got a lot of great feedback that led to big adjustments. This is probably the best feedback I've ever gotten so seriously, thanks guys!

Tom Zenk's publicist for paying me for pictures years ago. That money went to even more pictures and research!

Stan Hansen for his beautiful violence that led me to become the old school wrestling fan that I am today!

...and a special thanks to The Mod Squad for any efforts not otherwise mentioned!

From the ReadMe:

IMPORTANT!!!

If you do not use the WWF you should remove their broadcasting deal with NBC that is unassigned

If you do not use the WCW you should remove their broadcasting deal with TBS that is unassigned

These deals are meant to be used with event specials. If they are not removed the AI will not use them but they will get sued by the broadcaster.

<p>Thanks for taking the time to check out my thread and to download this mod. I’ve put considerable time and effort into it and I hope you enjoy. I consider myself to be somewhat of an (extremely) amateur wrestling historian and I really hope this mod for TEW15 will give you many hours of enjoyment. Additionally, I hope you take the time to explore the game world and learn about some of the colorful characters and wrestling promotions that dotted the world that you may not be familiar with. Did you know that there was an AWF in New York before Paul Alperstein’s version in the mid-90s? Have you seen Freddy Krueger, Jason and Leatherface imitations battle each other in companies like the IWA and W*NG? Did you know that before he died in a coke overdose, Herb Abrams paid Dr. Death Steve Williams to shoot on Steve Ray in the ring for the UWF? Wrestling is full of characters and companies that have been lost to time and I hope you enjoy exploring them in Rising Storms!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Frequently Asked Questions:</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>…about the data</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Q: Is the data freeware?</strong></p><p>

A: No. From this point forward the data is not free for use. Please send me a pm for permission to use this data in any way.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Q: What picture pack does this use?</strong></p><p>

A: This data uses the nGo picture pack that can be found here: <a href="http://greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=534801" rel="external nofollow">http://greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=534801</a></p><p>

</p><p><strong>

Q: Is this just a port of the 13 data?</strong></p><p>

A: No. This is a total reworking of Rising Storms. Stats have been completely rebalanced, alter egos added, new pictures added, a new injury file, historically accurate tour names when possible, new promotions, corrected rosters, etc. This will be a different experience.</p><p>

</p><p><strong>

Q: Will you be releasing updates?</strong></p><p>

A: Yes, as errors are reported I will fix and release updates. The data is pretty solid as is, but there are always mistakes. Please feel free to report any mistakes you find in this thread. Additionally, I intend to go through and correct the location file with open and close dates, but I have no time table for that.</p><p> </p><p>

<em>…about gameplay</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Q: Shouldn’t Ted Turner be the owner of WCW?</strong></p><p>

A: This is probably the question I will get asked the most. Please know that I have had a long debate about this decision, both with the voices in my head and with members of The Mod Squad. Ultimately I have decided to use the CEO setup with Jim Herd listed as CEO and WCW owned by the TBS media group. I have determined that this comes closes to representing the operation of WCW in real life at this time. TBS as a media group represents Ted Turner’s influence on the company and using Jim Herd as CEO presents the user with the unique challenge that actually existed at this time of dealing with Herd as a boss. I am open to feedback on this, but I will ignore any ranting. </p><p>

</p><p><strong>

Q: Why is Ted Turner a user character?</strong></p><p>

A: Instead of leaving him out completely, Ted Turner is available as a playable user character should you want to go that route. If you don’t want to use him, be sure you use the option to delete him when you start your game so he doesn’t control some random promotion and ruin your experience. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Q: Wasn’t WCW at cult level in TEW13?</strong></p><p>

A: Yes. I made the change to make it low level national for this version. This will present you, the user, with a serious challenge should you play as WCW. Dropping to cult will be very easy.</p><p>

</p><p><strong>

Q: The load times are slow. What gives?</strong></p><p>

A: The data is very comprehensive in terms of promotions and workers with far more active promotions than the typical mod when the game world starts. I have put a great deal of effort into providing a vibrant world that allows workers places to work but also gives you, the user, an opportunity to explore wrestling history in the early 90s. As a result of this vibrant world, the load times are slower than normal, mainly just in the first year. As time goes on many of these promotions will go out of business or be purchased and the game world will speed up.</p><p>

</p><p><strong>

Q: Wait…WCW has the NWA and the WCW World Title?</strong></p><p>

A: This is a unique time in WCW history. In real life, WCW would begin recognizing their own world champion within weeks of the mod’s start date due to a dispute with the NWA. The NWA would then recognize that history as well. My testing as shown that WCW will almost assuredly leave the NWA in the first year if the AI controls them, but without the WCW World title activated, they will simply not use it. Therefore, the company will start with both titles active. The AI will actually handle this fine, but as a user you can make an easy change if you want only one. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Q: Shouldn’t WWF have more popularity in X? </strong></p><p>

A: This was a difficult time in the wrestling business. Popularity was falling everywhere. I think have done a good job representing that and presenting you, the user, with a fun challenge no matter what promotion you take on, including the WWF.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Q: Will narratives still impact the WWF is I play as them?</strong></p><p>

A: Yes. The narratives that are designed to impact the WWF are not AI-specific. These narratives are based on things that would have happened no matter what. If you are uncomfortable with narratives that may or may not impact financial integrity, you should browse the narratives in the editor and remove them.</p><p>

</p><p><strong>

Q: Why do WWF and WCW have unassigned broadcasting deals with NBC and TBS respectively? And do SNME and Clash work?</strong></p><p>

A: When you start a game as either the WWF or WCW, you will have a deal with either NBC or TBS that is not locked into events or a specific tv show. This is designed this way so that you can use either SNME or Clash of the Champions as the tv specials they were intended to be. Please note that the AI will ignore these events all together as well as those broadcasting deals. You should delete the ones for companies you won’t use as they will get sued at the end of the year for not using them. (AI only)</p><p>

</p><p><strong>

Q: Why was “worker x” removed from “company y?”</strong></p><p>

A: I removed some contracts to make the game work smoother. Additionally, now that we have the hire local option, you should be able to bring on local jobbers with ease!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Q: I noticed bios that talk about mysterious dates of birth. What does that mean?</strong></p><p>

A: For some workers I just couldn’t find an accurate date of birth and had to guess. I tried in those cases to use a kayfabe phrase to let you, the user, know that this date of birth is not accurate.</p><p>

</p><p><strong>

Q: Why does Japan dominate end of year awards?</strong></p><p>

A: There is nothing I can do about this. I have turned down consistency stats for Japanese workers, but the reality is that because of the touring system Japanese workers will work many more matches than American workers and will tend to work against better workers. Example, Jumbo Tsuruta might work 75 matches, mostly against other Japanese main event level workers, while Hulk Hogan might work less than 20 with some of those against jobbers. I expect that user booking will help keep your workers up in the power 500, but there isn’t much hope for AI controlled workers.</p><p>

</p><p><strong>

Q: Was this “” really “”?</strong></p><p>

A: If you have feedback or questions about whether something really was the way I have it or you think it is inaccurate, please feel free to post in the thread of send me a PM with your input. I welcome all input and feedback, but again, I will ignore whining or ranting.</p>

Cannot wait for this! It was probably my most played mod on 2013, and had several of my longest running saves. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Rising Storms on 2016 will be awesome. Between this, Matt's mods, and upcoming 2001, all I want is Hive to get some progress along and I will literally be all set for the next few years. But Rising Storms is a must, because it was one od the most complete worlds one could find.

Lets see what's behind door number one... A TEW16 EDITION OF RISING STOOOORMS!

Cannot wait for this! It was probably my most played mod on 2013, and had several of my longest running saves. :)

Same, by a mile. Easily the longest real world data game I ever stuck with was a RS WWF save that went clear into the late 90's before my PC required a format. :/

If you require any thoughts on elements of the database that need updating, feel free to PM me. I've been using a slightly modified version of the Rising Storms Mod from 13 that was converted over to 16 for my diary, so I have a little beta experience on what needs some work.

I'm playing too a converted version of this mod and having a lot of fun, I'm in '94 with ECW and even if it's just a converted mod it's still very enjoyable and balanced. Hope to reach cult by the end of the year. Flair becoming an obese wrestler is the only minor issue, I can't imagine him like that :D

Hope this version will be even greater, good work!

In all seriousness, I can't wait for this. I never gave it much attention in 2013, so I hope to really give it the respect it deserves this time around. Good luck, Justtxyank!</p>
