Vince gives Bret his giant contract, Shawn gets jealous and demands the same, Vince refuses. Shawn demands the title or he'll leave. Vince agrees. Bret and Vince screw Shawn. Shawn, Triple H, Rude and Chyna defect to WCW. Sting beats Hogan to kill the NWO, it's replaced by The Kliq of Nash, Hall, Shawn, Triple H (under whatever name? Paul Levesque, Hunter Levesque, Paul Hunter?), Waltman, Chyna (again with a new name, Hippolyta (Amazonian queen)? Joanie Laurer?). Rude presumably links up with Hennig.

WWF probably still creates the Mr McMahon character vs Austin but isn't as edgy with Bret as 'the guy', although he's heel after the screwjob, a corporate "traditionalist" Bret lines up to face rebel Austin at Mania.

Ive been watching the WWE Network and in two seperate interviews Eric Bischoff said he knew he was going to do a company take over angle before Hall and Nash were set to join WCW, and Hall and Nash both said theye often wondered what wrestling would be like if they never left WWF.

My idea is that Hall and Nash resign and Bischoff still goes through the nwo angle but with different guys. Jerry Jarrett takes over the company and promptly runs it into the ground with his brand of southern style wrestling being completely off the pulse of popular culture combined with his insistence on making Jeff Jarrett the face of the company. In this scenario SS 97' is the last show WWF runs before going bankrupt, making all of its stars free agents. WCW hypothetically stands supreme but their position as the unquestioned national presence in the US leads to Time Warner tightening the purse strings; after all there's no point operating with a bloated budget when you're the only game in town and you don't have to. How many of WWF's stars will WCW be able to sign before their roster budget becomes untenable? Proceeds from January 1998.

- What if there was no Montreal? The Good Version- In this alternate reality, the Montreal Screwjob never happened and Bret Hart handed over the WWF Title on Monday Night Raw the following night after Survivor Series (or dropped the belt to HBK or someone else). Bret leaves on good terms with the WWF, but the Mr. McMahon character is never really born.

- What if there was no Montreal? The Bad Version.- Here, Bret goes back on his word and shows up on WCW television with the WWF Title, throwing it down and stomping all over what it now stands for. The WWF gets a massive publicity boost as a result of the controversy, but the title is virtually worthless and morale is at an all-time low (Hart also gets even more notoriety).

Just decided to give an idea for an alternative 1997 mod.

The Kliq Effect

In 1996, two members of The Kliq, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall signed with WCW. For an alternative idea though, what if the other members of the Kliq convince Nash and Hall to stay in the WWF. Without the Curtain Call incident taking place, Hunter Hearst Helmsley ends up victorious at the 1996 King of the Ring and begins a long program with babyface WWF Champion Shawn Michaels with Triple H capturing the WWF Championship from Shawn Michaels later that year and Razor Ramon is beginning to be built up as a huge babyface to collide with Hunter at WrestleMania 13 for the WWF Championship. Meanwhile, brothers Bret Hart and Owen Hart are offered deals to WCW and with the WWF's creative now focused on on The Kliq, the duo jump over to WCW in late 1996 and the New World Order gimmick is now given to the Hart Family who begin to each jump ship to WCW over 1996 and 1997.

At WrestleMania 13, Razor Ramon defeats Helmsley to become WWF Champion. A storyline soon begins revolving around the fact that Razor Ramon use to be friends backstage with Helmsley, Diesel, and Shawn Michaels, but he allowed his ego to get in the way and broke their friendship. Therefore the three members of the Kliq join forces with the intention of dethroning Razor Ramon. The 1-2-3 Kid and Kevin Nash's friend Steve Austin end up joining forces with Razor to help him combat this team. Meanwhile the backstage situation is becoming very negative in the WWF as top talents like The Undertaker along with mid card talent hoping to break the glass ceiling are now feeling like they do not have a chance to climb the top of the mountain as The Kliq have used their influence to overtake the title picture in the company.

In WCW, Hulk Hogan has all but disappeared from WCW during the 1996s as just an occasional wrestler. He however appeared at Halloween Havoc 1997 as a surprise partner of Team WCW to take on the forces of the Hart Family in the WarGames main event and helped lead Team WCW to victory, putting a dent into their year long stronghold of the company. Now it seems like a Hulk Hogan is destined to clash with WCW World Heavyweight Champion Bret Hart and bring an end to the Hart Family's reign of terror.

Haha. Probably some big problems there, but just came up with it off the top of my head and thought it might be interesting.

- What about a mod where Pillman doesn't die?

- Bam Bam gets fed up and shoot fights the Kliq

- More Screwjob dissension (Mick Foley, Mark Calloway) but they go to ECW instead

- The Ultimate Warrior signs his 5 year contract

How about the whole HBK being screwed part and everyone does the leave. Bret is injured post-match, Davey Boy is given a push along with Owen. Over in WCW, Shawn etc are met by Finley, Regal, Robbie Brookside and Doc Dean. Friendless, Shawn and Hunter struggle for a year whilst Sting takes out the nWo.

Back in the WWF, Davey gets his run and Owen the IC Title. Bret returns and Davey won't give him a shot, Bret gets a shot after defeating a serie of Davey's friends then during the title match Dynamite's voice is heard...distracting Davey as Bret wins. Bret moves on, Dynamite hand picks opponents to destroy Davey.

All very much a stream of consciousness from me so far.

I did one similar mod in 13, using the montreal aftermath as base, with 4 companies. WWF with the Harts , Taker Audtin, WCW with the old guard ( sting hacer, flair) and some good hopefuls as eddie or jericho, the qliq invading the ECW and Hogan with bischoff creating the WWE ( with Rock, Savage, Kane...).

Anyway anything of Genadi is a standard!!

The Spit-Less Screwjob

- Instead of becoming filled with white hot rage that frothed into the spit that landed on Vince McMahon's face, Bret Hart's reaction to the Montreal Screwjob is a subdued, deeply depressed state of mind. Rather than sign the initials of World Championship Wrestling to end the Survivor Series 1997 Pay-Per-View, Hart remains slumped on the ground running his hand through his hair, stunned at the incident. It's at this moment that Bret Hart immediately decides he'll never step into a wrestling ring again for the rest of his live. Bret Hart retires immediately the following morning.

- Shocked and disturbed at the retirement of Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels contemplates his role in the incident and grows to resent the company and Championship belt he sent another man into retirement for. With best friends Scott Hall and Kevin Nash whispering in his ear of the benefits of joining the competition, his decision is an easy one: Shawn Michaels becomes the biggest defector to WCW since Hulk Hogan.

- With the loud and vocal backlash due to the retirement of Hart and subsequent defection of Michaels, Vincent Kennedy McMahon tells his writing staff and closest company men that it would be for the betterment of the product to remove himself from the on-screen product. He will never become the Mr. McMahon "character".

- Without the support and backing of celebrated main eventer Shawn Michaels and due to his association with the recent wave of defectors, Triple H is relegated to the midcard scene, Degeneration-X is broken up and he is passed over for any meaningful main event push for the foreseeable future.

In layman's terms, Hart retires, HBK is in WCW, Owen is gone for a while, Triple H remains a midcarder (though I guess that would be totally controlled by the player), D-X is not a hotbed of the Attitude Era and you don't have the maniacal Mr. McMahon character to be a foil for Steve Austin.

This idea is spectacular... Although instead of having Bret retire, and Owen take leave... I'd suggest they head home, and revamp Stampede using there stardom to bring the Candian wrestling scene to new heights.

The British scene wasn't really all that great in 98, was it? Even the moderately dark ages of FWA were still a year or two away and the likes of Joint Promotions and All Star weren't setting the world on fire (or even the UK on fire). [Feel free to ignore me if I'm wildly wrong, my main knowledge of BritWres goes back to about 2011]

British wrestling was essentually dead from the early 90's till the early to mid 00's, the FWA were nothing till 99 when they rebooted themselves and All Star were essentually doing nothing beyond the tribute shows.

Would make more sence working with CWA in Germany.

There was nothing around where I live (Scottish Borders) we would occasionally get one off events at Community Centres where you got a bunch of guys dressing up as WWF guys but you were lucky to get 100 people in the venue.

It was a pretty dead scene, Doc Dean and Robbie Brookside going to NJPW was easily the highlight of 97. I've spent hours working on 97, the fact I can't remember All Stars roster is a sign of just how poor it was and Hammerlock, Premier or WAW certainly wouldn't launch anything. All Star weren't the worst for tributes though, although it did seem in a bit of a Dr Who timewarp with Jones, Kilby, Grey and Murphy still working away.

The point though being the Harts wanting to spark a global competitor to WWF. CWA would certainly make sense as another promotion to work with.

You'll still find the poster on ebay, with the location portion as a blank white box. It was the same in most places. My Scottish Championship Wrestling was maybe the first to change that, followed by BCW, W3L and eventually SWA, PBW and ICW. I've no doubt there were others.

From memory, the tributes were either Klondyke Jake, Ian McGregor or the BWF run by Shane Stevens.

I found one of the posters, this is the exact show that would come to home town once a year.

Hey Genadi, if you want to go ahead with something along the lines with what I had suggested to you a year or so ago about an alt. mod of MA, that is perfectly fine (I think I still have the PM or PMs saved). All the awesome mods coming out that weren't on 2013 have got me switching my stance on getting 2016. Lots of really good ideas so far here. None quite as crazy as mine (though the Bret immediately retiring is close).

I had an idea for a similar mod, but set 10 years earlier:

In 1987, Wrestlemania III was set to become the biggest wrestling event in the history of the business, with Vince McMahon's company poised to become the nationally-dominant promotion.

And then, Hulk Hogan was struck by lightning... and he died.

In just two short weeks before Mania, Vince scrambled to find a way to prevent his watershed moment from slipping away. And thus... Rowdy Roddy Piper stood in Detroit and lifted a 450-pound giant over his head, pinning him to the mat in front of 95,000.

Now, two months after Wrestlemania, Piper stands as the tentative main star of the World Wrestling Federation. Andre the Giant, disappointed in the changes to the booking and feeling his age, has left the company for greener pastures in New Japan. Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat are poised to continue their feud, one of the hottest acts in the business. But who will be the main heroes and villains of the company now?

On the side of the faces, Jake Roberts, Roddy Piper and Ricky Steamboat are all vying for that top spot. But can a Snake, an Irishman and a Dragon really make up for the loss of Hogan?

On the side of the heels, Randy Savage, Honky Tonk Man and the Hart Foundation are at the top of the charts. But do they have the necessary ingredients to inspire a feud the likes of Hogan and Andre?

Will other promotions seek to fill the void of Hulk Hogan with a Ric Flair? Or will WWF swoop in to snatch more talents and fill their ranks once again?

****

In regards to the "Brian Pillman Lives" idea, you should also make it a "Steve Austin dies" angle.
