WEXXV (2005) - A Hardcore Nightmare

Recommended Posts

Why is a bulky heavyweight gaijin who hates garbage the new head booker of WEXXV, aka the most bloodthirsty promotion in the world? That's a great question, and one that I'd really like to answer with something very interesting, but it's all been a case of mistaken identity, or maybe even a joke on me. I just finished my training with Steve Flash and sent tapes out to promotions all around the world. Well, the only promotion that bit was Warrior Engine XXV. You've heard of them?

Ryu Kajahara is an insane man. No, seriously. He's nuts. He picked some kid who is turning 18 this month and made him the head booker of his promotion. Some of the best raw talent in the US and Japan are in WEXXV. Now that I'm here in Japan, I might as well go over the workers I'm here with and who is out there for the future.

Every month, WEXXV will hold their hour-long event, Heart of a Warrior! On Monday of the 2nd week. There will also be a second hour-long event each month, WEXXV Engine of Destruction on Monday during the 4th week.

Every three months, there will be a larger show packed to the brim with Death Matches.

In February, there will be Death Emperor; May will see Submit to Death; August is Death Battle Insanity; and November will be the Eve of Death (the WEXXV Anniversary Show).

Yeah, Ryu really likes death... I told you, he's insane.

Monday, Week 2, December 2005.

WEXXV Heart of a Warrior!

Kanto, Japan (575 attendance)

  • The show begins with the debut of Zack Avatar, who calls out his opponent for the night, Toshiharu Hyobanshi. The two trade verbal jabs until Ryu Kajahara and Saionji Omura come out to make fun of both men. (C+)
  • Toshiharu Hyobanshi is the debut winner this time, putting Zack Avatar down in 11:41. (C-)
  • The Chaos Demons picked up the victory and the Blood Brother Titles in a wild brawl of a match, with Demon #1 pinning Eddie Peak in 5:35. (D+)
  • Nothing seemed to work in the favor of Nobuhito Ogiwara. The chaos of the match helped hide his weaknesses, but the crowd hates him and he and Ryu don't seem to click. Ryu wins in 6:15 after busting Ogiwara open. (D)
  • Saionji Omura picked up the win in 5:35. (D-)

Overall Rating: D+

So, we had the reverse show there. Better pacing will be the right thing to do, I think.

Monday, Week 4, December 2005.

WEXXV Engine of Destruction

Kinki, Japan (550 attendance)

  • The show begins with a massive cluster of Zack Avatar, Ryu Kajahara, Kimitada Ohishi, Battle Sakata, Larry Wood, and Toshiharu Hyobanshi in the ring arguing. The segment breaks down into a brawl among all six of the wrestlers. ©
  • The fans hated both Hajime Sugisata and Saneatsu Shigemitsu, but at least the mayhem of the match tried to hide the fact the they don't click at all, either. Sugisata wins in 6:09. (E-)
  • Zack Avatar took it to Munemitsu Senmatsu, picking up the win in 8:03. (E)
  • Toshiharu Hyobanshi continues his winning ways, putting Hiroshi Morisue down in 13:41. ©
  • The barbed wire boards certainly came into play in this quick, but hard hitting match. Ryu Kajahara defeated Larry Wood at the 6:19 mark. (C-)

Overall Rating: C-

Battle Sakata let me know that he doesn't fit into hardcore style matches. I looked at the King of Death Matches Title he held and agreed.

Well, if you didn't figure out my misfortune, Eddie Peak got picked up by SWF. Engine of Destruction also runs parallel to DAVE Christmas With The Devil, so half of our roster was in the States. That's okay, though, it was a really good show.

The show wasn't good enough to get us any higher than 4th out of 4 in the regional battles. That's unfortunate, because those shows were good for WEXXV!

And if it wasn't for Ryu Kajahara giving himself over $46,000 a month, we'd have made money. Instead, we lost about $35,000. Making $1.5 million in two years sounds about impossible. Especially because we're small!

The Japanese economy is on a downward slide, being measured at B+ and falling. The wrestling industry is strong at the moment, a B+ and rising. The downward economy could hurt us, but the rising industry is certainly a benefit. We'll see how it goes...

Monday, Week 2, January 2006.

WEXXV Heart of a Warrior!

Kanto, Japan (530 attendance)

  • Zack Avatar calls out Ryu Kajahara, calling him a fraud! Kajahara responds by challenging Avatar to find two teammates to fight Ryu's Army! (C+)
  • Surprisingly enough, Zack Avatar put his money where his mouth was, picking up a pinfall on Tatsukichi Shichirobei for the win in 9:30. (D)
  • Battle Sakata tried to show his ability, but was outshone by Henry Lee in 13:07. (E+)
  • Big Cat Brandon and Hiroshi Morisue have great chemistry, bringing the quality of the match up. That said, Brandon looked strong, but Morisue was able to put him down in 12:04. (D)
  • The two long time partners, Ohishi and Omura beat each other to a pulp for 6:07, when Omura defended his title. (D+)

Overall Rating: D+

We lost Larry Wood to NOTBPW. Sad day. I wanted to see him and Big Cat Brandon in a hardcore match.

In more sad news, The Stomper of NYCW fame has passed away, leaving an opening in the pro wrestling world. Steve is there... maybe I could go back home and get away from these crazy Japanese men!

It also seems that Battle Sakata and Tatsukichi Shichirobei have been having problems recently and strongly dislike each other.

Monday, Week 4, January 2006.

WEXXV Engine of Destruction

Kinki, Japan (475 attendance)

Kurt Laramee opened up the night by pissing everyone in the locker room off. He didn't appreciate my stern warning.

  • Toshiharu Hyobanshi and Zack Avatar start the night by calling The Wild Things out, promising to destroy them in the Brass Knuckles match later tonight. (C+)
  • Ryu Kajahara begins the night by dominating Kurt Laramee, taking him out with several light tube shots at 5:41. (D)
  • The Chaos Demons make the first defense of their Blood Brothers Titles, defeating the New Jersey Devils in 8:07. (D-)
  • Big Cat Brandon debuted his new Man Beast gimmick, defeating Battle Sakata in 11:59. (D-)
  • The main event was a good one, The Wild Things used their tag team experience to put away Toshiharu Hyobanshi and Zack Avatar in 11:23. ©

Overall Rating: C-

The main event went better than I had imagined it would. This is a plus.

Arnold Westberry has taken over NYCW. He's kind of a douche, so I'm not going to put my hat in that ring. I'll just toil away here in deathmatch Japan. I just hope I get to be as old as the Stomper...

January's regional battle was better, as we finished 2nd out of 3. I can deal with middle of the pack. Just not the bottom.

We've also made a new signing, welcoming Insane Machine to WEXXV. He should be able to help put us over the hump for match quality.

The Card for February's Heart of a Warrior!

Big Cat Brandon vs Nobuhito Ogiwara

Insane Machine vs. Zack Avatar

Henry Lee vs. Toshiharu Hyobanshi

Kimitada Ohishi vs. Ryu Kajahara vs. Saionji Omura (Barbed Wire Elimination)

Wednesday, Week 4, May 2006.

WEXXV Submit to Death

Kanto, Japan (741 attendance)

The competitors in tonight's main event pair their way to the ring. Ryu Kajahara guarantees that after tonight, the six men go their separate ways. However, the last man standing will receive a shot at the Warrior's Heart Championship. If a team happens to be standing, they will battle to see who receives the shot. (B)

Big Cat Brandon © vs. Nobuhito Ogiwara (WEXXV King of Death Matches, Bed of Nails)

Big Cat Brandon starts the show off with a bang. Ogiwara slams him on the bed of nails, but Brandon is able to escape the pinfall. He fights up and hits the Big Cat Pounce, landing Ogiwara on a bed of nails. BCB follows with a splash to gain the victory in 7:49. (D-)

Doppo Nakazawa vs. Spirit of the Shark (First Blood Match)

The two rookies put on a turd for the crowd, bringing them back down. We'll just leave it at Spirit of the Shark wins in 7:01. (F-)

Ryunosuke Matsuki, Zeshin Makioka, and Brutal Attack vs. Doug Peak, Kurt Laramee, and The New Jersey Devils (Light Tube Deathmatch)

The match is pure chaos, with all eight men starting with light tubes in their hands like baseball bats. Upwards of a hundred light tubes are broken over backs, heads, and one unfortunate shot to the face for Alex Braun. The mayhem of the match hides some poor performances that ends abruptly in 6:16, when Doug Peak gets Ryunosuke Matsuki to submit. (E)

Hiroshi Morisue vs. Takesi Umehara vs. Warrior Monkey (One Million Thumbtacks)

In hindsight, Warrior Monkey could have been left out of this one, as he is still nursing the broken hand, but hindsight is always 20/20. Monkey is out of the match mostly, just making his presence known during big spots. Morisue almost picks up the victory, but Warrior Monkey slides in at the right moment, to hit a Hell Fire Kick on Umehara for the win. (E+)

The Chaos Demons © vs. Helter Skelter (WEXXV Blood Brothers, Barbed Wire Boards)

The biggest challenge to date for the Chaos Demons are a couple of psychopaths. Both teams use the barbed wire boards liberally. In fact, it takes Chaos Demon #2 to be wrapped in barbed wire and sandwiched between two boards for John Doe to be able to get the pin and the win in 7:36. (D+)

Battle Sakata vs. Toshiharu Hyobanshi (Chain Match)

Hyobanshi continues his winning ways in this one, completely dominating Battle Sakata in 8:42. (D+)

Kimitada Ohishi & Munemitsu Senmatsu vs. Ryu Kajahara & Tatsukichi Shichirobei vs. Saionji Omura & Zack Avatar (Total Elimination Exploding Deathmatch)

All around the ring and ringside area, explosives were set. It didn't take long for them to get tripped, as Shichirobei nearly had his leg blown off after taking a back drop to the floor. Ohishi took the chance to eliminate him. Then Omura was able to catch Ohishi with a slam into the explosives, eliminating him. Ryu and Omura battled to a precarious position on the middle rope, allowing Munemitsu Senmatsu to powerbomb the both of them onto an explosive. Senmatsu covered Omura while Avatar covered Kajahara to eliminate them both. Senmatsu and Avatar battled for another moment, until Avatar missed a splash in the corner, allowing Senmatsu to hit him with a death valley driver onto the explosives to finish the match in 7:08. (D+)

In anger, Saionji Omura grabs the strap and starts whipping Zack Avatar, but somehow, Avatar makes it to his feet. He grabs the strap and begins to whip Omura with it, chasing the aging veteran out of the ring. Avatar stands bloody and broken in the ring with the strap in hand. (B)

Overall Rating: D+

Big Cat Brandon walks out with a sore back after Ogiwara botched the slam on the nails. Alex Braun gets a broken nose from an errant light tube shot. Saionji Omura sustains a poked eye in the chaos of the main event. None of those injuries were TOO awful, so I think we can rejoice in that.

We finished second in the regional battles.

Omura, Brandon, and Insane Machine are all back from their injuries, which is great news.

And Tadiyuki Kikkawa has walked out of BHOTWG to form INSPIRE. I'm going to send in an application. You never know, right?
